Seriously. I cant tell you just how much fun we had. Aside from the reasonable prices and friendly knowledgeable people who work here, there was so much to do and so many clever puzzles, riddles, hidden surprises and levels. The quality is very much shown in the meticulous detail that they put into creating the room the storyline and the puzzles. We spent almost every minute of the hour and as time was running out we solved our last puzzle. No phones allowed in so it was nothing but your family time working together and accomplishing puzzles and brainstorming and working as a team. Not only would I recommend this place but I would like to come back and try every room! If youre looking for some fun interaction and Hands-On activities with the family and a good bonding good nature fun this is the place to go! Thank you guys so much we cant stop talking about how much fun we had
Lots of fun! Took my 13, 12, and 10 year old kids and we had a blast in the Gettysburg Gold Train Station room! The people who work there are very friendly too and are able to give clues when needed. We finished the room with 6 minutes to spare!
The gentleman who greeted us was very warm and charming to talk to. We did the Rebel Recon room and were delighted by the level of themed decoration and the fantastic period appropriate clues and puzzles. We definitely recommend 1863 Escape Room and well be back again!
This was such a fun experience! This was my first escape room experience and my mom, sister, and I escaped “Rebel Recon” with more than five minutes to spare! The staff was so good with informing us how the escape room worked and then very helpful with checking in on us. Will come back and do another one next time I am in Gettysburg!!
Great escape room! We did the gold train and loved it! The puzzles were challenging but not too ambiguous like other escape rooms. The staff were also friendly and helpful. The only negative thing I could say is the price is a little steep. We will definitely return to do the other rooms!
My girlfriend and I visited 1863 Escape a couple of weeks ago and did the Rebel Recon room. Our game-master was Allex. We were in the room with another 3 people who were new. As of the time of writing this review, they have unlimited clues for this room, which is great for beginners! If you are new to escape rooms and are curious, you should try 1863 Escape. Allex was super-helpful and surprisingly calm when one of the ladies with us fell down and we had to pause the game to make sure that she was ok. She was fine, we continued and solved the room! The puzzles were really challenging and fun to solve! My girlfriend and I look forward to taking the Spirited Study on! If you are visiting Gettysburg and are looking for something fun to do, you wont be disappointed at 1863 Escape! The building is historic and the rooms are themed with civil war historical context.

1863 Escape Room was amazing!! Our family decided to do our very first escape room in one of our favorite places, Gettysburg. A big shout out to Brandon, who promptly responded to my email and answering all my questions about planning the experience! We chose the Rebel Recon Room! It’s was perfect! Our Game Master, Hannah (who was so friendly and helpful) gave us the back story for our room and the mission which had us even more excited! The room was decorated beautifully and the clues were challenging but fun! We had so many laughs working together to solve the mission! Hannah was a big help with clues and came to our rescue a few times! She gets up those stairs quickly! Lol Our children, Maddie and Luke (11 and 8 yrs old) said it was “the best day ever” and “when can we come back and do another room?” This truly was fun for the whole family. My husband and I along with a set of the grandparents had just as much fun, if not more than the kids!! We will definitely be coming back to try another room!! This is an activity that everyone should try when visiting Gettysburg!!
Gettysburg train station is beautiful, clues are a bit cryptic, one requires outside knowledge about the steam industry.Bring a flashlight, parts of the room are poorly lit. Enjoyed our time. :)
Absolutely had a blast! My friends and I did the Spirited Study for my birthday and it was so much fun! The staff is so helpful and nice. We all agreed to go back for the other two escape rooms soon. Highly recommend!
What an amazing experience!!!! I have done several escape rooms and this is by far my favorite. I enjoyed it so much I did both rooms in the same weekend. I personally liked the Spirited Study better than Rebel Recon, but both were awesome. One of the more authentic rooms Ive done. Starting with the staff as they were dressed in character. We were fortunate to have Alex as our game host for both rooms, and he went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience. I would definitely recommend requesting him as he is very good with the introductions and giving clues. The only bad thing I can say, is they only had two rooms! I will be checking in next year to see if they have a new room.
The study escape room was jam packed with puzzles. Overall very enjoyable. There was one part where we soft locked ourselves, and another where we had the solution but the puzzle wouldnt open. It opened when we found the clue to it, so it seems that the house controlled it. We works love to try their other rooms. With two people working fast and organized, we finished with about 10 to 15 minutes left.
Amazing experience at this Escape Room location! The staff were welcoming and accommodating with our walk-in back-to-back challenges. The rooms are immersive with historically accurate elements as well as well-designed puzzles and interactive clues. Highly recommend this for families, date nights and history buffs!
We had a group of 8 and did rebel recon. it was awesome, did it in 45 mins. already planning the next one. buy a gift card before the end of December and get 20% off.
We had a great time doing this! The puzzles were challenging and fun and we loved the civil war theming. But the best part was the owner accommodated us and came at a time when there was no Escape Rooms scheduled just so we could have the opportunity to take part in this before we left town! So happy we called. Highly recommend!
My friend and I went to 1863 Escape Room on a whim when we walked by. We both had always wanted to to do an escape room and figured “it’s our vacation! Let’s do it!” We didn’t expect to get in at that time as we both are aware Escape Rooms typically require an appointment, but we figured we’d see what it’s about and maybe make an appointment for later on that weekend.It turned out that they had one free room at that time that wasn’t booked and they were willing to fit us in. It was the Rebel Recon room. Now the experience with the room itself was sooo much fun! It was a nice mix of easy to hard puzzles. However, what made the experience better was actually the staff.Unfortunately, right when we got started in the room, my friend got very sick (not Covid, but a stomach issue) and had to leave me to go to the restroom and ended up being in there for a few minutes. The staff member (and I could kick myself for not getting her name) was so nice about the whole ordeal. She offered to make an appointment for another time during the weekend if my friend wasn’t feeling up to it. My friend didn’t want to do that though since she felt bad that we started it already.Then the girl went down and check the room and found out the room wasn’t booked for the following hour. She was able to booked the following hour for us! It was a little thing, but we greatly appreciated her going the extra mile to give us the time we lost from my friend being the restroom.Now we understand that the circumstances aligned right for her to be able to do this and that if the room was booked for the following hour, we would have been up a creek without a paddle and probably would have had to re-schedule. It was just nice that since they could accommodate us, they did.Would 100% go back and check out the other rooms (...and maybe bring some antacids this time)!
The Spirited Study at 1863 Escape is the best escape room I have ever done. It is very challenging but still super fun. Also, the Civil War setting creates a unique twist. My whole experience was amazing. The people are awesome and the rooms even better!!! I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in escape rooms. A great challenge!
A trip to Gettysburg is not complete without experiencing the 1863 Escape Room. It was a thrilling adventure that brings you back in time. My group participated in both rooms (Rebel Recon and Spirited Study) and each were creatively designed with much attention to detail. We especially enjoyed the Spirited Study because of its unique hiding spots and its thought-provoking clues. This activity is perfect for team building and critical thinking. The instructors were very friendly and provided fascinating historical context. Overall, we were very impressed and highly recommend this exhilarating activity!
We brought 51 high school students and had a wonderful time. They loved Gettysburg, but for many, the time they spent escaping was a highlight of our trip! The room was challenging but fun. Thank you, Alex, for a memorable experience!
These people are very amazing people!! We went today and our first one didn’t go so well but it was our group not the company after that we came back to do one our self they people we’re so amazing they gave us 20 % since the people that were with us last we’re bad people and then when we finished they amazing staff complemented us and offered us another 20% off for the next time we come to finish their last room the staff is amazing and extremely generous. They also gave us 2 things to take home for free which was amazing of them very kind people and would definitely recommend anyone to come here this was our first escape room ever and we had so much fun.
We had an awesome time! The staff was friendly and offered an amazing experience! We have now completed the Rebel Recon and Spirited Study. Both were challenging and fun! Looking forward to another visit when their new room is completed!!
I did the larger room with my family. It was the first time we have all been in a room together without fighting! Even my 6 year old was able to join in and participate! We had so much fun that we later came back and did the smaller room (Spirited Study). This room was significantly harder but I enjoyed this one just as much. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to do something different in Gettysburg other than your typical museum and bus tour. Jasmine and Allex were amazing and so helpful when we got stuck on clues. Thank you and I hope to see this place around for a long time!
We did Rebel Recon. The room was fun with interesting twists. The clues kept things moving. The room kept to the Gettysburg theme, which was nice. They accommodated our group with a wide range of age groups. Best escape room we have been to in the PA/MD area. We will be back to do their other room when we are back in town!
Oh my goodness this place was amazing!!This was our first time doing an escape room. It was my husband, myself and 2 thirteen yr old girls. I had such a great time. My daughter was shaking with excitement to solve this room. The staff was beyond kind and helpful. Would do this again in a heartbeat!
My husband and I did Gettysburg Gold; Train Escape, which was great fun, especially given that its based on a true story! It was the right level of difficulty, we narrowly missed out on escaping in time but it was close! The lady on the desk was lovely and very helpful too.
This was really fun. It was not the most challenging room I’ve done, but definitely too hard for just me & newbie Sarah... but there was no one booked after us so the fella running it let us go over our hour so we could finish. We only needed a couple extra minutes and 2 clues total. The theme/story was good, the props were BEAUTIFUL, and the house itself has incredible wood work (which doesn’t matter to most room escapers, lol, but just a little bonus material). Highly recommend. I try to do an escape room in every city I travel to (when I have a travel partner) and this was pretty “authentic” Gettysburg.
Great experience. The theme tied in with the Gettysburg civil war history very well - it was integrated into the actual story of the experience and pretty much all of the puzzles without requiring any prior knowledge of the history. All of the components and scenery were very high quality and never felt like props.Fair warning, it was quite difficult and our group needed help more than once, but the help seemed quite well timed to allow us to actually experience the whole puzzle within the time limit without too much hand holding. Weve done 3 or 4 different escape rooms at various places and this was the hardest so far, but we were also only a group of 4 whereas our previous experiences have been with 8 or more, which would definitely be a factor.
My friends and I tried 1863 Escape as our first escape the room experience and absolutely loved it. We were unsure of what to expect and were truly impressed with both the room and staff. The clues presented a challenging and delightful experience that I would highly recommend for both families and groups of adults. 1863 Escape is a great way to spend an evening after a long day exploring the battlefield!
This was the first escape room experience we had (Rebel Recon). Our instructor did an amazing job at laying everything out beforehand. Puzzles are so well done and thought out, real head scratchers but still doable enough that even in our group of two we managed to work them out - with no time to spare, but worked out nonetheless! Definitely putting the other room high on the list of things to for our next trip!
Lots of fun, I went with 7 other students in my AP US History class on June2nd, 2018. The rooms are challenging, (though I must say my team and I got a top 5 finishing time in the spirited room) yet they are full of obstacles that can trip you up if you aren’t on top of your game. Personally I believe the Spirited room is the better of the two, more challenging, yet more fulfilling when completed. However both rooms are excellent. I recommend this for any group; families, friends, date night, or any other group event, if you’re in Gettysburg, definitely give this a look!!
We did the rebel recon and it was so much fun! I loved the fact it was consistent with the whole Gettysburg vibe. We made it out with eight minutes to spare! If youre a fan of escape rooms, this is a great one to do.
5 Stars! I did this escape room with 3 of my military buddies. We had an absolute blast. Strongly recommend. What a great way to spend an hour, and the staff is top notch. Dont miss the opportunity if you are in Gettysburg. You dont have to be an expert on the Civil War to have a good time.
Yesterday, May 24, 2021 we tried to escape the Spirited Study. It was awesome!! The staff were so helpful and friendly. I highly recommend going to 1863 in Gettysburg, Pa.
Our family of 8 completed the Escape Room within the time allowed. The attendant was accomodating and friendly. The rooms were definitely challenging and fun. We had a blast!
This Escape room (The Spirited Study) was all that!!. Mystery, intrigue, historical and some super fun and hard clues. Our family had a fantastic experience. My year 8 old daughter, 14 year old nephew and 70 year old mother in law all really got into it. And by a series of skill, luck and an extra 5 minutes, We Escaped!!!
This was our first experience with an escape room and it was a blast! We did the Rebel Recon room and couldnt have asked for a better experience. There was friendly staff, authentic gadgets, lots of fun, little bit of frustration but it was definitely worth the experience!
Two of us came in to experience the spirit room. TLDR was it was a well crafted room, good experience.Long version:Small environment but well crafted room, probably best balanced for 3 or 4 people. Apparently the harder of the two rooms offered at this location. No signs of major wear which gave away any puzzles. Majority of the locks were key or code locks. There was one electronic lock of some kind (I think magnetic lock of some kind but not obvious.) Somewhat multithreaded linear flow. Most clues were well linked to the locks they were intended to solve so didnt have to try all the locks. We ran over the hour limit but were allowed to continue as apparently there was no one queued up for the following session. Never had a room give us extra time like that, first for me. Some knowledge of popular classic literature is required. Again overall good experience.
Had a great time with my family. Was fun and would definately recommend. Even my teenagers enjoyed the escape room.
My friend and I were total Escape Room rookies. The gentleman who greeted us gave a helpful orientation and just enough hints along the way to keep it interesting. Although we didnt quite solve the room, we had a fun time, and I would recommend this experience to a friend. Thanks!
Our group had the BEST time at 1863 Escape! Our entire experience was fantastic. Great puzzles and riddles and very kind staff. This is truly a must do when visiting Gettysburg! I highly recommend!!
Took a group of 13, split into two groups. One group did the train station room, the other did rebel recon. Train station group had a WONDERFUL time. Rebel recon group had a good time, but not as good as the other. Their one clue wasnt set up properly, so one they got it they still didnt have all the info they needed to proceed. Nevertheless, it was a great family outing... highly recommended!!

We did both rooms, they are themed very well and are fun but the puzzles could use some work to make the game flow better. We have done about 12 different rooms before these two, and these rooms seem to be slightly overpriced. I would expect this level of room in the $20 range.
My group and I had the best experience testing out 1863 Escape. The professional crew brought us back in time to 1863 and made us feel as though we were immersed in the Civil War era. The room itself was incredibly reminiscent of the time period it is supposed to represent. The clues were very well thought out and definitely not easy!! This is an experience everyone must try while visiting Gettysburg. As an escape room veteran this was by far the best one I have tried. Cant wait to go back!

We visited 1863 Escape for my fathers birthday last month and had a wonderful experience. The room included a few puzzles that were unlike any Id seen before and it was a very rewarding feeling when we made it out just as time expired!
Had a great time doing the Rebel Recon room (twice)! Staff members are kind and informative and are very willing to help out with clues when necessary! Definitely a good team-building experience for a smaller group.
We really had a great time! We had 2 couples in our group and were joined by 3 guys from Tennessee. We worked well together and escaped! The room was very well done and made us use all of our brain power.poll

The room was fun with challenging puzzles and if you don’t have a big enough group you get paired with other people which works out well. Also the selection is cool and the staff is nice
My family really enjoyed spending time together solving the mystery. Even my 6 year old grandson enjoyed reading the clues and helping to solve! GREAT family adventure! The employees, Allex and Jasmine, were very helpful and friendly.

This was so much fun!! The staff is so wonderful!! I cant recommend this enough!! Perfect way to escape for an hour. But be warned! You feel those last minutes ticking down and relationships could be tested hahaha. I will definitely be doing this again and again!
We tried this with a group of friends and it was super fun. Gettysburg only has so many things you can do and this should be one of them. It adds the history of Gettysburg to a game the whole family will enjoy. I cant wait to go back and try another room.

Probably the most insane escape room my husband and I will ever do. We got to be union soldiers infiltrating confederate quarters to uncover a battle plan. So intense and immersive! We will be back in the summer! :-)

The civil war theme correlating to Gettysburgs history made the experience much more fun and clever than other escape rooms. Definitely recommend for those local and touring through Gettysburg!
We were hoping for a Scooby-Doo experience and(except for the fact that here was NO turning bookcase taking us in a secret passage) we were Pleasantly surprised

We recently visited 1863 escape for my sisters bachelorette party. It was such a neat experience. Alex was wonderful.
Did the Spirited Study with two people and it was really fun - it came down to the wire but we solved the last puzzle right at the end.
We only did one room and to tell you the truth it was hard to not do the other. We will definitely be back once they finish the third room.

2022-06-18We had a great time. This place was really really fun. The staff was amazing. Especially Kyle. He was a lot of fun. Very nice. Very goofy. And most of all very very helpful. This is something you can do with friends or family. My kids are 11 and 13. They had the best time. They were able to help solve some of the mysteries and also figured some things out on their own. I would 100% recommend anyone to go to 1863 Escape Room.

2020-01-19Spirited Study was a great room! Had a blast with my group of girls. Alex was super nice and I’d definitely stop by next time I’m in the area! 10/10 would recommend.

2022-01-15Good run of then mill escape. Nothing really out of the ordinary here. The Spirited Study us far, far tougher than it seems when you first step inside. Easily underestimated it. Id visit again.

2019-07-21Excellent escape room. My wife and I played Rebel Recon. The room was well-designed and really immersed us in the story. The puzzles were laid out well and progressed nicely. There were a number of elements that surprised and impressed us. The staff was friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend!

2021-07-1410/10 would recommend! We were looking for something to do in Gettysburg and this escape room definitely did the job! We did The Spirited Study, which is the hardest room to solve, and we had so much fun. The staff were very friendly and made it an enjoyable experience. Even though we didn’t finish the room, it was definitely something we would recommend to anyone! :)
