Arsenal is one of my favorite local companies. Their snowbound cinnamon cider IS winter to me and I love visiting this time of year, but their other ciders are just as great and I look forward to stopping by to refill my growler (a great deal for regulars) and ordering their ciders at local restaurants. They have a nice variety of flavors so there is something for everyone! Their outdoor space is great during the warmer months and the menu at Haversack compliments the ciders perfectly.
Great spot for some great cider. During the winter the seating is limited as they have a ton of space outside, but not much inside. They do usually have fires going to help keep you warm though. They make a variety of cider, from sweet to dry and will let you taste. I recommend the Elleck. You can also mix two, if you like the flavor of a sweeter one, but not the sweetness, try mixing in a dry one!
It was a very interesting ciderhouse tucked away in a picket of Pittsburgh. I loved the mead and ginger cider. We decided on a growler of the ginger cider at $24. It was a very good price for the quality. Would recommend. They also offer a military discount as well!!!
Would love to write a review, but wasnt able to enjoy at all. All excited to go here on a recommendation (were here on a vacation) but got there and they close at 8 even though Google said 9pm. Restaurants have every right to change their hours but in a digital world where we use our phones to navigate everything, it should really be priority to not only change the sign on your physical door, but also your digital door.
Seriously the best cider Ive ever had. I used to go all the time when I lived in Pittsburgh, but now I always bring empty growlers with me when I come back into town. I havent had a flavor that I didnt like, but Rhubarb and Snowbound Cinnamon are definitely my favorites. They let you sample a few different flavors whenever you go in, so it makes it easy to experiment with new flavors before you commit.
I absolutely loved the cider here. There were so many options and it was great that you were able to taste 3 before deciding on one. One of the owners was serving, she was incredibly nice and willing to share the arsenal cider houses story. I went in winter, so I wasnt able to utilize the outdoor space, but it looked fantastic. The growlers have completely unique labels. The only thing I wish they had were flights because it would be great to taste multiple ciders in smaller quantities (mostly because they are all so delicious)
Not only the best cider in town, but the friendliest people too. They have a great variety of their standard ciders and then also rotate seasonal selections in. Lots of outdoor, kid friendly seating in the back, some of which is covered to protect you from the elements. Cant recommend enough.
Fun venue offering locally-made cider and mead. Order through a small walk-up style counter, where you can try a variety of what they have on tap for the day before you order. Good variety of ciders, from dry to sweet- a must for the gluten intolerant!Interior space is small, so not sure how it is during the winter, but during the summer, you can head straight out to the spacious backyard, featuring lawn games and plenty of seating/standing room. Great for happy hour or a crowd.
This Cidery make my favorite hard cider available to human kind! The staff is very friendly and helpful, the original location is super cute and authentic, and the cider is straight up bomb. I love that there are so many variations to try, too. Ive traveled all over the country and been to Cideries in many different states, but nothing compares to Arsenal!
This place is super fun! A little pricey but the experience is super fun and makes up for it. The sandwiches are super super yummy and you can sample any cider you want. Seat yourself means it can be a little hard to find a seat at peak times but still a great experience!
Great cider, great location, great staff! Michelle is absolutely amazing!Appreciate they follow Covid precautions and have covered outdoor seating with space heaters!! You do have to order food thanks to gov wolf’s mandates, but Arsenal has a nice variety to choose from so really they thought of everything! You can also order ahead for contactless pick up.Cant say enough good things about Arsenal and the team that runs it. Delicious ciders, friendly staff, and great atmosphere!
So this place is confusing. It’s a house. And there’s a walled off garden. A bit hard to figure out but we spent a couple of hours here with snacks and cider on Labor Day weekend. It was perfect for hanging out outside. Snacks are minimalist—you have to buy food to stay there. We had chips and grilled cheese. The rhubarb cider was our favorite. Lots of dogs to either entertain or make you nervous depending on your feel about dogs and outdoor dining areas. Staff are friendly. This is hipster Pittsburgh at its primest. Authentic and chill.
A very unique cider house indeed, if expensive, but tasty and worth the coin if your purse can spare the coppers! The best part (besides the fantastic selection and variations of brew!) is by far the excellent outdoor, covered seating area and lawn game options at your disposal! If you need an eat-to-bite there is also a scrumptious sandwich shoppe thats attached to the cider house, though you need to order separately!
The owner was there on my visit and was extremely helpful along with being polite and friendly! This is the second Arsenal Cider establishment Ive been to and was very pleased. The establishment is clean and inviting. Patrons were pleasant as well while I was there. My daughter and I had many growlers between us and they were filled quickly and while we waited we had a free glass of cider! They have a garden area which I didnt visit that day (I assume its more of a summer thing) they play music and people are having their cider and enjoying themselves. I must return and experience the cider garden another time! In case you dont know Arsenal Cider is delicious and its worth the trip if youre not from Lawrenceville as Im not (traveled close to an hour to get there). Cant wait to visit again 😁
Definitely a premium venue for cider. Every growler I have gotten from them has been amazing. With a few main ciders and multiple seasonal ones there is always something new to try, and you can try samples! All I can say is remember to bring your growlers back when you get more, because you will definitely be back after youve had some.
This is a cute little tasting room with excellent ciders and friendly staff. It has a little touch of the feel of a Spanish cideria. There’s an outside area which is probably nice in the summer, but it was like 27 degrees out on our visit! There isn’t much seating inside, but it’s definitely worth a visit!
The ciders really are worthy of The awards they get. Bill and Michelle are some of the nicest warmest people youll have the pleasure of meeting along with their wonderful staff. The facility is just as warm and inviting as the owners and theyre food is top notch. One of the best Reuben and Rachel sandwiches Ive ever had. You can get arsenal at a number of places but its definitely worth going to the original sight.
Another hidden gem in Pittsburgh! I loved the atmosphere and the ample amount of outdoor seating. I appreciated that free samples were offered prior to purchasing anything. The prices were a little too high. I’d recommend getting a growler and splitting it. We had enough to give 8 people a glass of cider for about $30 which is better than purchasing it by the glass for $8 each. I like the packaging on the growler because they write your name on it and it looks “old timey”. I’d definitely come back here!
Awesome little cider show which I believe kicked off their whole business. Very cozy and the people are very friendly including the customers I have run into, the ciders are to die for. There are also some instruments laying around that you are free to play with, I even brought my own small keyboard and it was ok and people enjoyed it. The inside is a bit small but they have outside seating that is porched in and it looks like there is even a small park seating area that could be used in the summer, if you are around the area and enjoy cider stop in you wont regret it!
Very good cider, can be ordered by the glass for on site consumption, or by the growler to take home. Save and reuse your growlers for a discount. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. They usually have a couple non-cider options (like wine), but if you like cider, go here for the cider. If you dont, youre probably better off going somewhere else. If you dont know if you like cider, you do. Youre welcome
Cozy, good cider, good atmosphere. Be warned: if youre used to Angry Orchard you are in for a rude awakening. The home made cider they sell is closer to wine than beer; the flavor profiles vary between sweet and sour and tart and bitter depending on what you order. The space inside is limited, but theres a beautiful little patio outside with space heaters in winter. The only downside is that it closes at 9:00 PM (due to residential restrictions). I would advise starting your night here if youre planning on going out. You dont want to show up at 8:30 and barely have time for last call. This is really a Lawrenceville gem, worth a look!!
This place is amazing! You get to try a few flavors before picking one and they have great outdoor seating, covered and open, to enjoy it in. If you like hard cider, you must stop by and try some. Get a growler and take some home since it isnt an open late/hang out kind of bar.
The cinnamon cider is delicious and crisp. The Dry Mead was pretty good and was exactly the way it sounds, semisweet yet dry. I really enjoyed the band playing in the back. Kids are welcome and there was also a giant checkers game in the back as well. Overall, nice clean atmosphere compared to places in Colorado.
Great place with awesome interior design, great flavors, and a cozy outdoor space! Good spot for a Friday night whether you have kids, good dogs, or a group of friends with a growler! Its in a good spot and almost kind of hidden away. Lots of nice friendly staff too :) Would definitely recommend!
Arsenal Cider House offers ciders ranging from sweet to dry. Often, I have struggled to find a good dry cider so this has been a great find for me.There isnt much indoor seating but, when the weather is good, the outdoor area can comfortably accommodate a crowd.Growlers are available.I dont recall them serving food.
Amazing flavors of cider. Seating arrangement was nice outdoor as well as indoor. Staff was cooperative, helpful and always ready to help. I am amazed with the service and I like the environment of the place. If you really want to have cider you must visit this place. I visited here many times and every time I am satisfied with my visit. I like the place and hope if you will be here you also love this place.
Best hard cider you will ever try. They don’t taste alcoholic at all but are typically above 8% ABV. They come out with about 20 different types a year and they’re all amazing. It’s a bit on the pricey side but it’s worth it. If you get the chance, try Snowbound Cinnamon when it comes out in the winter. It’s liquid apple pie. They also have hard cider slushees when the warmer months come out.
Very cool little place to try some delicious cider. You walking and are instantly greeted by a tiny little bar and great staff who walk you through their selection list and the each of the choices and allow you to try a couple before deciding. Not a ton of seating room but very cozy and rich in history.
Arsenal remains - hands down - the best ciders Ive ever tasted. I started coming here years ago, and I dont see myself ever stopping! Great drinks, live music in the cider garden in the summer, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere will always keep me coming back for more.
We first tried out this place while an out of town friend was visiting, and it was love at first sight. The decor is awesome, the cider is amazing, and the owners and staff are all very friendly. If you get a chance, ask Michelle (one of the owners) about how they got started. Its a great story of entrepreneurship and passion for what you do. Check out their Facebook page for weekly updates of their flavors...
First met on a Venture Outdoors hike, and have since turned family members and friends on to Arsenal Cider! Highly recommend buying a super dry cider with a sweeter one - mix to make the perfect blend to liking. During the hike, toured downstairs, met the couple who own the place and cant say enough about their knowledge and adoration of their craft (esp the Mister, holy obsessed!) Enjoy a sample, crack open a bottle (they dont sell by the glass, but youre welcome to enjoy at one of their 4 or so tables) and sink in the Civil War decor and vibe! As a fun aside, the growlers offer a rank - so far my moms growler lists her as a General, my husband as a Colonel, and Im a Major. We have great fun regarding each others rank when refilling!!!
The Wine Sorbet is unbelievably delicious! They have different flavors and its always a fun surprise what it will be as I typically pre-order online and the menu jus says its wine sorbet. They pour it up to go upon your arrival. I find thw sorbet to be sweet but not overly sweet and I have loved every flavor I have tried. My favorite was blueberry ginger. The most recent one I tried was cranberry. Such a fun treat! I have also enjoyed several growlers of cider over the years and their seasonal brews are amazing. I will have to pick up some cider for the fall, it has been awhile since I have had some! I rarely drink anymore but have enjoyed this cider several times over the spring and summer of 2020. Arsenal cider and wine are of the very few alcoholic beverages I choose to enjoy!
Absolutely an escape from the reality of the hustle and bustle of the city! When you come into this fantastic Gem of Lawrenceville, you are greeted by some of the nicest people in Pittsburgh. You can tell they have pride in their product and craft. It shows throughout the residential wood furnished abode.Their ciders are top notch, and I highly expect this place to be around for century’s as ciders in other parts of the US are super prevalent. One can hope that Pittsburgh will become a cider metropolis and this will be the capital..:)Well done!To note they have ciders for ever palete , sweet, dry, fruity!Cheers,
We were a little worried at first that we were walking into someones home and found that yes, we were.Arsenal started literally in their basement and have grown into a cider house with great variety and one of the more unique and cozy settings in the Burgh. We were lucky enough to catch the garden while it was still open before closing for the season and were glad we did.We didnt partake in the food truck that was serving folks outside but we gladly pulled up a couple chairs and soaked in the string band that was playing that night. We tasted a good variety but ultimately ended up with a growler of one of the semi-sweet apple ciders.Well be back, definitely when the weather gets better and the garden opens up.
Wife and I took an Uber down to Lawrenceville and went to Arsenal for our first stop. I had heard great things about it, I heard it had a Civil War era feel to it. And that was all true. The cider was really good, I had the ginger and I loved it. Interesting Civil War type artifacts. Hipster type crowd , mostly in their 30’s.
This place is amazing! You get to try a few flavors before picking one and they have great outdoor seating, covered and open, to enjoy it in. Great drinks, live music in the cider garden in the summer, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere will always keep me coming back for more.
I visit when ever I can while in Pittsburgh. There cider seems to be low in sulfites compared to even my cider. They have great flavors and they tank carbonate which is way better then bottle bombs :) My favorite is Snowbound cinnamon. During warm months they have entertainment in the courtyard.
Wow what a wonderful cider house. best cider in Pittsburgh in my opinion, and I cant think of a better mead even outside of Pittsburgh. The slushee they make ia great and makes your mouth all numb. When its cold they have warm cider. You can get glass containers there that you can refill and there is a frequent refill stamp card. You can try samples of the ciders and they usually have a bunch of standard apple flavors and some other new and interesting ciders like ginger or mead or cherry. The rhubarb is also really good and there is seatinf both inside and outside (fun when warm out)
Yes! (what everyone else says) This place is great. The cider is delightful. They dont sell pints, just growlers (about $20/liter). If you just want a refill, its $6 cheaper. If you have your own growler, theyll charge you per liter and maybe give you a discount for having your own growler. You can sample all of the ciders! We got Festers Folly (the plum and peach one), and Fighting Elleck (the most popular apple cider).
Lots of stupid reviews complaining about parking or not enough free drinks stuff should be ignored. If you cant figure out parking, thats your fault, seems lots of folks find it EVERY TIME. You want more free drinks, go mooch off your mama, this is a business not a charity for broke drunks. This place is great! Great products made in small batches, by artisans who care about what they make. I dont think they charge enough for this artisan product. Cost the same as the mass produced crap. Id gladly pay more for quality like this. Thanks to the owner for this wonderful place to hang out and enjoy
Great experience all around. You order inside, and then you can either grab a table, or head outside. Outside, theres a giant fenced-in area where they have tables, and a stage for live performances. The cidery will bring in a catering company every so often, and have a live band performing to go with the drinks and the food.Definitely recommended, just... be patient with the parking situation.
Showed up and proudly displayed my jug that I intended to have filled. After tasting a few ciders, I was rudely turned down in front of other guests that I reached my tasting limit. A sample tray that I would gladly pay for was not offered. Then the bar maid turned her back to me as she whispered in the ear of the other bar maid, obviously about me. I felt very uncomfortable and mistreated and it could have been handled better. I visit this place once a year on business trips and always make the trip to have my original jug refilled. Lost a fan. Go for the cider. Not for the service.
Its somewhat difficult to find if youve never been. The cidery is on 39th (which is in the address) but if you are familiar with the iconic Arsenal sign painted on the fence along Penn Ave you may find yourself in the Take a Break Bar by accident. The store front looks like a house so dont be confused. Also the ally way beside the building leads to the open air, fenced in area meant for overflow. The space inside is tiny. It may hold 12-16 people so if its full inside and cold outside you can always take a liter to go.The prices are fair, the ciders delicious, and the staff friendly! You can bring the bottles back to be refilled at a discounted price. I completely enjoyed my experience and will be back soon!
Great place to eat, drink and be merry! On nice days -- even the really hot ones, they are packed in the summers. I wish they would get more tables, but then again, people wouldnt have space for cornhole and activities. The lack of seats is easily fixed by packing chairs with you before you go. The neighborhood is wonderful - best location for ice cream is just down the road (Naturoll). Last summer (2018), they had a band called The Adorabulls who played nearly every Saturday, and this band warmed the amazing environment with even better music. Arsenal is safe for all ages. Perfect for the summer. Also, Negleys Nectar is divine. Peach cider? Delicious.
The wife and I love this place been going here for years love the cider and the people that make it they are friendly and full of information if you have any questions they are happy to answer great atmosphere and even the sandwiches are great definitely would recommend this place to novice and experts its just plain great
Asked me what name to put on the growler, I said governor. The lady spelled it govenor. I have no tolerance for incompetence. On the tip it listed all the percentages, so I picked 10% which was the lowest selection. The lady didnt even thank me. I got 4 growlers and the total was nearly $90, Id say 10% is pretty darn good for how little work she had to do.

2022-05-15I am obsessed with Arsenal Cider. It is my favorite. I seek it out anytime I go to buy craft beer and cider. This brand is really important to me and this is the first time Ive had the chance to make it out to the cider house. They had so many interesting new things I havent tried in cans. I ordered the Spicy Archibald & The Rhubarb. Both were magnificent! I cant wait to go back sometime. The outside patio was adorable and so quaint for just sitting and drinking with friends.

2021-08-24This is a go to spot when in Pittsburgh. They have a variety of different ciders that fits all taste preferences. They do a great job of deciphering the sweetness level, flavor profiles and alcohol percentage. I also like how most ciders have a higher percentage to them. The inside area is vintage and the outdoor area is very accommodating. There is a variety of picnic tables, connect four, ring toss and Cornhole.

2022-06-11The atmosphere is great - truly unique - and attracts a really fun, kind crowd. However, I’ve had a few weird encounters with the manager (it seems?). Seems pretty uptight and petty. We asked for water from the sink instead of the water jug sitting out because it was hot and tasted weird. He came out to find me and drink the water jug water right in front of me to demonstrate that “it tastes fine”. He then angrily changed out the water jug. Tonight he got mad at the kids tossing the corn hole bean bags at each other. After they were corrected and stopped, he still angrily took away the game. His presence persistently puts a dark cloud over the experience. Not sure we will go back, which is too bad because it is a beautiful place.

2022-07-01This isn’t just the best cidery in Pittsburgh, it is amongst the very best in the US. There are no bad drinks here. Only top notch with a tremendous selection. Don’t ignore the melomels and meads either. Service is superb. A very comfortable place to spend the evening ( good musical entertainment on the weekends as well). We keep coming back again. And again and…..

2022-06-24All the ciders and other drinks we had were quite tasty and there were spacious outdoor areas to sit. The person that served us was very friendly! My favorite was the apricot cider.

2019-08-21If you love cider like I love cider this is the place to go! They have about 20 ciders on tap (my favorite) and you can sample 3 of them before ordering. A couple of ciders don’t have apple so technically they’re sparking wine, but they are sooooooo good. They also have a kind of softy ice cream (I think it may be dairy free) that has 3 kinds of cider in it and SWEET. BABY. JESUS. it’s good. You get a free cup of it on your birthday! You can also take a growler home if you feel so inclined. I almost wish I lived in Pittsburgh.

2021-04-11If cider is your thing its hard to beat Arsenal. The variety is great ranging from sweet to dry. The environment is pleasant. The outdoor area in the back is comfortable and family friendly. Didnt eat there but the food appears well-done.

2019-03-23Stopped by because daughter drinks cider. Im a beer drinker but was pleasantly impressed with the cider tasting. Nice selections on hand. Cool atmosphere as it is old home of owner turned into civil war restoration. Owner was very nice and patient during tastings.
