Avis Car Rental in other cities:
I walked up to the counter of a smiling Woman. I explain my problem of having three confirmation numbers at two different locations and I was thoroughly confused. She assured me she would handle the situation. And she did with great ease and patience. We resolve the problem, And the car was fabulous, Great on gas. And the price was nice too!
4 out of the last 4 cars I’ve rented from here or budget next door have been dirty, reeked of smoke/MJ, and 1 with almost bald tires. If the prices weren’t so low, I would go elsewhere. I also had to take the cars to the car wash because I couldn’t see out the windows. They claim that their car wash is frozen, yet other car washes are perfectly fine. They didn’t even bother hosing the car down or wiping the windows at least.
I was not pleased with the vehicle I was initially given at checkout. I had to request a change and Mike was amazing about finding a resolution promptly. His customer service and professionalism was unmatched and truly made all the difference! Keep doing great things.
I am giving a 5-star review only because of the workers. They were friendly, helpful, and serviced one customer at a time with pleasure. To receive the vehicle there were almost 30 people in line and only one worker some of that time until two others came. I suggest that if we filled out the paperwork online in advance, then there should be a line to expedite the people that did their homework.
I always use Avis and am happy with the service. But the representative that helped me in Lisbon, Portugal yesterday was outstanding. He made sure I had all the details of the car, how to hook up my phone GPS to the car screen, how to put car in reverse, and how to easily find the car rental return in the Sevilla Spain. He made the foreign experience outstanding!!
Avis at PHL has excellent customer service at all hours of the day and night. I arrived late and my reservation with another company had been “no showed” when they closed up early. Avis had people and vehicles ready to go to take care of me and more than 15 other folks in the same predicament. Will definitely use again!
Avis is an unethical and dishonest company.64 y old wife made a reservation for Philadelphia (confirmed and not same day reservation). Upon arriving from Florida for funeral for her father, went to pick up location and was told they have no cars. Stranded, at pickup location they said nothing they could do to assist - they have no cars.AGAIN THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE NOR HELP PROVIDED OR OFFERED.COMPLETELY ABANDONED BY AVISThis should NEVER happen to any traveler. AVIS, willing to strand a customer in a strange city should NEVER be a consideration for rentals. We did call AVIS customer service (Philippines initially then US upon complaining) who advise Avis policy is to take reservations without confirming pick up location availability. Was told that customer service representatives do not have the ability to check location inventories.YES AVIS POLICY ALLOWS THEIR TAKING AND CONFIRMING YOUR RESERVATION WITHOUT KNOWING VEHICLE AVAILABILITY
Overall the experience was okay. My only complaint is they charged me refueling fees (almost triple of what it took to fill) when I returned my rental on full. I provided them with a screenshot of the gas station charge from when I fueled up on my banking app. Unfortunately, they would not accept it because the charge hit my account the next business day. Luckily I was able to locate the actual receipt from the night I gassed up minutes prior to returning the truck. They did reimburse me. They tried it.
Easy to book, quick pick up at the airport, good car (Kia Forte), seamless to extend the reservation online, and when I messed up and lost the key, there was someone available on the phone to help get the situation sorted. The price was extremely reasonable, especially given the level of service. 100% would use Avis again.
The rental operation at the PHL airport is consistently the WORST run Avis location I use. I had a reservation but when I arrived no cars where available. The preferred desk was horribly slow, and unsympathetic to the enormous line of what should be the customers you want to please most. There was no sense of urgency by any of the staff. People milled around versus all hands trying to bring up cars. I waited an hour before getting my car, which was dirty and dinged up (I was now late and had to accept it). There were 20 people also waiting on cars, though there were cars in parking spots for customers arriving later (one of them was my peer so I know they were hours from getting in). My company is supposed to get preferred service out of PHL given our east coast HQ is north of the city. If this is preferred service, Id hate to see how you treat everyone else. This is the last time I put up with this treatment (it happens repeatedly). I am starting to travel again now that the pandemic is waning. For at least the next 20 trips into PHL I will be renting with someone else - and it their service is better, that will be a permanent change and I may just make a switch across the board.
Felt very taken advantage of with fees and taxes of many kinds. Rented a vehicle for 90 mile one way trip - Avis really sticks it to you. 300 dollars for 3 hours with a car, no damage and full of petrol upon return. I’m fine to pay for a car but 100 + an hour for the Kia ….. that’s hosing you over …. With a smile of course.
Worst experience renting a vehicle. Landed late Friday night/early Saturday morning and made a reservation to pick up my car already from Avis. I did the pre-check and everything I could to make it as fast as possible. When the shuttle arrived at the rental agency, the line of customers was so long that it was out of the door.My mom of 70 was with me and we had to wait 2.5 hours and didn’t get our vehicle until after 3am. Of course, it wasn’t the vehicle I reserved either.I returned it early the following Friday and no one was there to receive it or give me a receipt that it was turned in. Three or four other people were also trying to return cars and we were all just looking around confused. Some guy walked up to us and just told us to leave the keys in the vehicle and go. We would receive an email that had our receipt.Still waiting on that receipt…
Michael was exceptional. Very supportive in helping me out of a car rental bind with another provider that would have left me stranded in Philadelphia. Michaels positive personality put me at ease and in no time, he had me smiling, laughing, and in a rental car. Thank you, Michael!
The Ford Escape from AVIS was not maintained and had out of balance or poor tires that vibrated to the point that safety truly became an issue. As a result, the car was uncomfortable to use locally and almost impossible at highway speeds. At the end of our term, we dropped the car off at a closed AVIS location on a Sunday completely full of gas. On our invoice we were charged for an additional 9.79 gallons that we now have to reconcile with AVIS.
Two bad experiences in 30 days!It looks like they wantedly give you a bad car so that they can get rid of it from their location. No proper inspection and the cars are dirty. the staff at this location acts innocent. But, they are cheating the customer in reality.First time - Rented from airport location. Realized after few miles that the car steering was pulling to the right. I exchanged it at Frazer who had a better service.turns out, this car had an issue with the wheel alignment.Second time - they gave me a car whose side mirror wasnt opening up completely. I inspected and exchanged it on the spot as I had a bad experience already. Turns out, the other car they gave me has an issue maintaining the tire pressure. Had to exchange it again at a different location.I wouldnt rent again from this location for sure.
This place was a zoo. Line out the door for main desk and only 2x staff helping custimers. Walked across the lot to preferred desk where there were 2x staff helping maybe 5 people. Offered upgrade to Tacoma I didnt need so waited 20+ minutes until Malibu was brought around. Saw another gentlemen ask for a different car because the one given to him needed an oil change. Malibu reeked of cigarette smoke. Staff at desk were positive and helpful; generally working hard to service customers. Back shops were working hard to clean returned cars and get them back on the lot. General layout, organization, and efficiency of this location was terrible.
I would give negative five stars if possible. This was one of the worst car rental experiences Ive ever had. Long line even with a reservation and an incredibly rude staff. The car was dirty, dented and smelled like an ashtray and when requesting another vehicle was given another dirty car with check engine and air pressure lights on. Not to mention, a vehicle in a lower price category with no refund. A terrible start to my vacation. I would highly discourage anyone from renting from Avis- in particular the Avis at the Philadelphia airport.
Overall Avis elsewhere seems to be a great experience but in Philadelphia airport it seems to be the worst. The resources are not motivated to work. The facility is outdated. As my line grew to check in, the agents left the desk for breaks and the lines grew bigger. It took 30 min to process. Why does processing takes for ever? Avis could use some automation in their system if they really want to stay profitable without raising rates. I will pass them on my next trip.
Respectful. Service from beginning to end. My car had a dent when picked it up but was raining when landed. I called said it should be on file. When returned the car the clerk in Philadelphia double check and said yes they had it on file. Car ran amazing. Would rent again
Unengaged employees. Have NOT seen the final receipt though they ensured (during the return process) that it was emailed to me and that I did not need the hard copy. I received this email to rate AVIS, but still NO RECEIPT of charge(s).The driver on the return bus was a smart A@@, and was not very helpful to other passengers on the shuttle.Only upside was that Avis had enough “inventory” for me to upgrade vehicles.
As a frequent car renter this was worse place for rental. Original rental car, tires worned out. Replacement car dirty , cheap car washed upon complained. Never vacuum, drugs under seats, bottles. Agent failed to inspect car. He gave me slip to check off damages. Too lazy to leave his booth. Upon returned of car , agent checked it gave it clear returned. Week later received letter from Avis charging me $450 for smoke cleaning. Unbelievable!! Had my uncle with lung cancer ride with me. Smoking Never!! Im more than sure agent was smoking while driving car to parking spot then blame me. Charges were removed upon calling , but NEVER AGAIN will rent from Avis. STAFF NEED TO BE TRAINED , so they could better assist customers
Truly the worst customer service I have ever received— charge you for items you didn’t consent to. I rented a car here and paid for a toll pass which I never received. Additionally, I consented to a charge of $320 and my card was charged for 550. I called to immediately resolve the toll pass when I realized there wasn’t one in the car and I was driving across the country. (It wasn’t an e toll pass either because the gates would always come down at the toll locations.) I called the location over 20x and each time when I would reach the office, someone would pick up the phone and immediately slam it down. This place practices the WORST and SCAM like business practices. Never had such a bad Avis experience.
Renting the car was fine but this place has some the the nastiest employees. Everyone has an attitude for no reason at all. No one was around when I was returning my car and then when I pulled up the one female employee with the head covering rolled her eyes at me and made a remark. Your employees are disgusting and ignorant. I’ll most likely take my business to Hertz again. This place is a joke with its “workers”.
Avis rental in Philadelphia airport. This location is very unorganized!! Once I made it thru the line, I provided my Avis number. They changed the credit card this reservation was billed to. Still made me wait for the car to be brought to me (15 minutes), which was parked less than 30 feet from me!!! Return was easy though at 6am!
The experience at this Avis (PHL) location has not been pleasant. The vehicle I rented was making a sound. I returned it. The second vehicle (same exact type), started making the same sound about a hour & 30 minutes in to my road trip to VA. The vehicle had extremely heavy air freshener deodorizer scent when I received it. It wasn’t until HOURS later after sneezing and coughing (wheezing - asthma), I noticed after re-entering the vehicle, the air freshener deodorizer was to cover a strong cigarette smoke smell from the previous renter. I couldn’t place the vehicle in reverse down in VA when I first tried (it was stuck). After shifting the vehicle to drive and then reverse, it jolted strongly backwards. This continued every time I need to reverse, the vehicle would stall (not move even when pressing the gas pedal gently). It wouldn’t reverse with a very strong jolt backwards, this of course placed me at risk of backing into other vehicles nearby (that I typically would not be at risk for backing into if the vehicle would’ve been maintenances and in proper working order). I need to speak with a member of management related to this egregiously terrible rental experience and now the after effects on my health. As of 12:28 pm EST on May 7, 2022 I have not received any contact for resolution. Also, I rented at 9 am Wednesday, May 4, 2022. By the time I returned the first damaged vehicle, it was after 12 noon EST closer to 1 pm EST, when I received the second vehicle (not in proper working order or thoroughly cleaned). I SHOULD NOT BE ASSESSED A LATE RETURN FEE OR ADDITIONAL RENTAL TIME!In addition, the employees at this location both indoors and those accepting the check in, are rude, impatient, and unprofessional.
Employees were friendly, however the process to check-in took 90 minutes, even though we followed the online pre-check procedures. When the vehicle was finally brought to us, the seats were heavily soiled and it had been smoked in previously. When we requested another vehicle, we were told wed have to go to the desk again. The line was too long for us to wait or we wouldve missed our scheduled meeting. Again, the staff was friendly, but very overwhelmed. Very disappointing experience.
AVIS Rental Car Philadelphia Airport delivered me a very poor maintained vehicle. The rental was UNSAFE in so many ways especially the front wheel alignment. I should have returned this vehicle if it was not for the major traffic in Philadelphia. AVIS vehicles are becoming old and in need of critical maintenance. This car if not handled by a seasoned experienced driver could have fatal implications especially in the rain. I had ZERO control rain soaked highway felt like I was hydro-planing. check your AVIS rental thoroughly before leaving the lot.
I usually have a great experience with Avis so i hope this is a one time experience. The PHL location was understaffed for a long weekend. I was in line for about an hour. Checking in online made no appreciable difference in what happened at the location during pick up. The car needed to be serviced. The brakes were grinding, the car also needed an alignment and after all of that, the service engine light came on. The staff was nice at both pick up and drop off (DCA). The DCA staff told me to report the issue at the customer service desk but I didnt have time to wait in line.
I will avoid this Avis PHL International Airport location for future needs. This location is unprofessional and needs additional training with strong leadership. I did not do my due diligence and review the comments prior to booking through Priceline. For that, I do take accountability. When I first arrived, the lines were not bad. It was once I got to the counter is when it all went left. The lady at the counter needs additional training. What could have been a a simple transition turned out to be something totally avoidable. This is vital; active listening. I told her that I had a reservation which she acknowledged. In a nutshell, she was processing it through the system it was telling her I had rented out a car already (which was false), had me continuously swiping my credit card (I told her the $250 was already pending on my credit card), and struggled to do a simple transaction for a pre booking. I did feel for her at times because she was receiving little to no help from her colleagues (both gentlemen had tunnel vision but had time to have side bar conversations- non work related) and she tried to receive assistance from her Manager which took for ever. Side note, Manager to Manager you need to be readily available to assist your staff members and LEAD. This is the job we signed up for so DO IT. It should not be this difficult to get a hold of you Sir. Also, he didn’t even have the nerve to come out.I was there for about 30 mins. Extremely frustrating. It wasn’t just me but another customer there as well.My car was dirty, smelled musty or smoky (non-smoker here). Did I bother to say anything? No, especially after that experience. I was ready to leave and get to my destination after a long travel day.Today May 19th was my return. Drop off was easy, left keys in the car and waited for the shuttle. The shuttle advertisement states, 12 minutes for the shuttle. A large group of us where there close to 26 minutes. Both I and another traveler had to walk into Avis to check the status as the guy behind the counter, with no urgency, said that she was coming. Everyone waiting was starting to grow anxious. He obviously does not care. It’s just another day for him. Finally, a Budget van (not sure Avis and Budget are affiliated) with a sweet woman came to get us.Overall, this experience was not the best to say the least.I’m not in the business to get anyone in trouble but to share my experience so your company can take this as a learning opportunity to avoid reviews like this.1) Ongoing training (scenario situations)2) Basic customer service face to face interaction skills. You applied to this job, accepted it, so act like you care. Don’t speak about how tired you are, etc. especially with customers right in front of your face waiting on your service.3) Take better care of the rentals4) make sure the turn around time with the shuttle advertised aligns. Also, communicate with the driver. If no one is waiting at the airport come back around and get the departure customers.5) Manager…MANAGE. If understaffed establish a plan or talk to Senior Leadership.6) Conduct a deeper analysis of your negative OSAT Customer reviews. What’s the trend? Common complaints? Talk to your staff. See what they need help with. How can you all improve? Thanks for talking the time to read this Avis. Let’s do better for future customers.Take care.
Worst customer service experience. Have been a customer of Avis for over 10 years. Had tire issues with the rental. I was told to go to the nearest Avis location to change the car. Arrived and was told no car was available. Called customer service again and was hungup on 4X over a 2 day span. No one wants to take responsiblity . WORST WORST EXPERIENCE
After hours of flight delays I arrived at PHL. I waited and waited for the AVIS pick-up bus but only every other car rental companys buses seemed to be running. After close to 30 min I elected to drag my bags across a grass median and 2 highways arrive at the return section of the Avis lot. after dragging my bags up the hill to the arrivals lot I discovered that my assigned car was no longer there. Back down to the office to try to get another car assignment. Seems that providing AVIS with you flight information doesnt mean they look at it. When you dont show up on time they give your car away. If you are flying to PHL Id strongly recommend picking another rental car company that actually runs their pickup buses late in the day.
Was given a car that smelled very strong of marijuana. Received car late at night and didnt want to go through the hassle of getting another car because lady at the counter was in a foul mood. The service was bad and the car smell was worse. Tried calling Avis and received little help other than telling me to send car back and go out of my way for their problem they overlooked. Next time Ill book with another company.
I was given a very bad vehicle on a one way rental. It was oversized, didnt have the correct Etoll unit for the region, was not cleaned (smelled terrible), and the USB ports didnt work. So, the tolls were a problem, the gas cost more than it should, I had to drive with the windows open, and my phone died along the way. Avoid Avis, but especially at the Philadelphia Airport. They switched the car when a supervisor came over and said, Dont give him that car. Terrible experience.
Rented a car from here yesterday and didn’t check the trunk of the car due to how the vehicle was parked. We get to our destination there are cigarette buds, dried milk in a plastic portion of the trunk and cat hair everywhere! We have called their number listed to speak with an associate over 30+ times and no one answers. Save your time and energy and go elsewhere.
We rented from Avis for a wedding and family vacation. We locked the keys in the trunk with all of our personal belongings. Due to the type of car Avis provided us there is a safety feature that once you unlock the car you still can not access the trunk. We followed all of Avis recommends including the requirement of them towing the rental car to the Salsbury location with them providing us a new vehicle (all occurred 8 hours later). The next day after calling Salsbury they notified us that the car was actually sent to BWI (3 hours away). Luckily a relative lives close to BWI and after 2.5 hours at BWI (towing company confirmed drop off location and talking to Avis staff) the car was located with no keys or luggage. Avis refused us entry to lost and found and refused further help. We have called daily with no repose and followed all of Avis’s recommendations. 7 days later we still have not been able to talk to anyone, no luggage, and out all expenses including rental car fees, purchasing of new clothes, 8 days worth of clothes already packed all due to Avis’s negligence and horrible customer service. Do not ever rent a car from here.
Recently rented a Kia Sorento for a weekend event to celebrate my cousin graduating from her Masters program. The service provided from the rental agents is ALWAYS top notch! The ride was extremely comfortable. I absolutely loved the car. It was EXTREMELY good on gas. Especially these days with gas prices so high. I will definitely rent another Sorento for my next trip.
Pre-ordered and paid for Prius. Arrived a little late and no Prius available when I arrived. Louie customer service agent felt bad and I said only want a car to go to. Bryn Mawr and back. Was given another car and when I went to get to it, another woman was sitting in it as she was given it. She felt bad and I said no problem you take it. Right next to that car was a Prius. I went back in and Louie recognized me even though he was helping another customer, and asked what happened told him another woman was given card as was in Preferred lot. I mentioned the Prius next to that car and he said go get it and bring it over while he finished with other customer. I did and went back in and Louie did paperwork quickly sending me on my way.As a business owner we strive for the best customer service possible and when I see it in other businesses I feel I should recognize it as it has been lost in today’s world, especially in large corporations. Louie should train other customer service agents at Avis. If you are a business owner in PHL area, I would hire Louie as quickly as possible as he will be an asset to any company.
If I could I would give the airport location a negotiate 10. Very rude staff. Had a reservation that was made on the phone two weeks in advance paid with debet card. When I arrived to location they informed me I needed a credit card. The refused to help me in any way. I left frustrated and stranded. Until I contact the Avis in Haddon heights NJ. Brian and his staff were very apologetic for the way I was treated at the airport and philadelphia. And actually got me a vehicle for the same price that I was quoted on the phone. I was on the road and on my way within an hour of meeting them and talking to them. I will always recommend that location over the airport never ever ever go to the airport.
The hits at this Avis keep rolling in. After many troubles here in the past I decided to give it a other try. Big mistake. I ended up getting charged for a pre-pay full tank and given a vehicle that is known for having the catalytic converter stolen. So what could have been a nice rental has once again turned into a Philadelphia Avis nightmare. Why give out cars that are particular targets for theft (avoid all Mitsubishi’s)? Who knows. The staff admits it’s a problem but there is nothing they can do
The teller at the front desk was extremely rude. When I asked him how much it would cost to add the tollway tag to our rental he said my husband asked that already and he already answered that question. I asked if they would charge us any additional charges and all he did was hand us our receipt and gave us the key. It was a horrible experience and the staff was very unprofessional. The shuttle bus took forever to pick us up and to get there when we returned the car.
The worst rental car experience ever!!!!! After waiting almost 2 hours on line to get our reserved car we hot our ride.. Car was a heap with ripped carpets and seats, filthy dirty...and it was a so called upgrade we belive they ran out of cars.. Do not rent Avis at Philadelphia Airport. Absolutely the worst. And customer service non existent.
Someone who rented a car off this company hit my car and left the scene. They havent been helpful whatsoever. i have police reports and witness statements but they wont take accountability and will not even share the persons insurance information with me either. Benjamin Chestang has been the person Ive been dealing with and its been a terrible experience. ill give every avis company in the tri state are a 1 star until i get some answers. Single mom who can barely afford life right now as it is and this is how you do business? mind you this happened in AUGUST. do better.
Return at PHL was a nightmare at 530 AM. NO shuttle after an extended wait (20-30 minutes), ZERO people who work for Avis ANYWHERE. 24/7 is not true. Not acceptable and then had to make a dangerous crossing of a road with zero crosswalks, sidewalks or any pedestrian accommodations while carrying luggage to make our flight.
Im very disappointed in Avis. Rented a car for only one day to go from one city to another and brought the car back at the right time with a full tank and the only instructions we got at the drop-off were to just leave the car there. After a couple of days, I got charged 3 times the amount that was estimated since Avis had just then found the car. Very bad communication and not willing to work things out. Never renting again.
The only bad part of this location is their shuttle. It only comes through the terminal once an hour. See Airport footage for proof. They also drive by with empty buses and don’t pick you up.The staff here was amazing. Everyone made me feel welcome and they helped me get my car quickly. The only issue I had was at the car return. Took a while for someone to come check the car in, but it’s not really a complaint. I will be using them again.
We rented a car with Avis for our stay in Philadelphia and family visit in New Jersey. We made the booking online in advance and saved quiet some with that. Online service was great, we got a brand new car. Pick up registration was a bit slow. All the car rental suppliers are located just outside the Airport building. You get there with a shuttle bus in just a few minutes.
We waited 45 mins for the shuttle bus to come, in the rain, and eventually paid the Enterprise bus driver $10 to take us. When we eventually got to Avis the whole place seemed to be deserted. We couldn’t find anyone to help us and the office was locked up. No signs saying who to call, when anyone would be back, cars were left with trunks and doors open, hazard lights on. All very weird. We ended up having to rent a car from Budget instead as had to get to a funeral. All in all, a terrible experience. I’ll never rent a car from Avis again.
Your company used to be fantastic. It was the only brand I was loyal to in the travel industry. This trip I had to make multiple calls to get a shuttle. The trip prior to LV. I waited in line for two hours with a reservation and was the last person to get a car. Dozens of people behind me we simply told sorry about your luck. Alarming to see a company go from first to worst in such a short period of time.
I was blown away with how efficient everyone was. My service representative Ms. Fry was multitasking and not skipping a beat. She handled changes in transactions for herself and her colleagues and kept excellent customer service with me as well. She explained each step with such precision there was never any question! She managed to find me a change in reservation that I had requested as well. Everyone was in good communication on the radio and it felt like everyone knew exactly the status of every car, and knew clearly the path forward for any circumstance. It was absolutely incredible and I have never seen customer service in a rental car facility like this before in my life! I normally drive with Hertz but I think now I will switch!!
I pay a premium to enjoy the preferred service and convenience of picking the car and having it ready to drive off when I get there. However, this is the 2nd time in a row that I got a car at PHL in nasty winter weather with no window washer fluid at all. With road salts/deicing agents splattering on the windshield its absolutely necessary for safe driving. No fun to be in cold bad weather and have to buy washer fluid and open the hood to fill it.
I really dont understand why literally 80% of the cars Ive rented from Avis smell like smoke. The air freshener they use when cleaning doesnt cover it up. This location was no different in that aspect. My flight to PHL was delayed and I ended up there at 2am but the car they assigned me (Im Avis Preferred) wasnt ideal and the app wouldnt let me change it because they couldnt guarantee inventory. I dont get that because their lot was totally full and its a simple app algorithm if the location is keeping inventory correctly.Anyway, the (truly pleasant and wonderful shuttle driver) took me to the Preferred office, which was empty. Fair enough since its 2am but then when he took me up to the main office, I was clearly an inconvenience for one of the two reps who were chatting. No one is happy working the graveyard shift, I get that, but I was one person asking for a quick vehicle change on a lot with hundreds of cars on it. It took another trip back to the office but I did end up with a quality car and the exit gate rep was super nice and pleasant to chat with briefly and I left happier than I thought I would thanks to him.But seriously Avis, get your act together with the stinky cars and the treatment of Preferred customers. Every customer, regardless of status, should be treated well but its aggravating when you spend thousands of dollars a year on rentals and get treated like youre an annoyance or given difficulty on the majority of your rentals.
I booked a car online and still waited in line over an hour to pickup my vehicle. The person checking us out was awesome, I believe his name is Michael. It would be nice to complete the paperwork online. The cost online was about $425. With fees and taxes, my costs doubled. This is very misleading. Please put those costs in upfront as I will not be choosing Avis with all these add on costs.
The staff at the PHL location are extremely nice and considerate during the period of time I was there. The place was packed. The line for a car was over 1 hour due to many customers thrown over by other car rental companies who turned their guests away because they overbooked. Everyone was patient. The staff stayed over time to get everyone taken care of. They were almost out of cars, but did their best to put everyone in a vehicle.Avis is one of the higher priced rental car companies.Valerie worked with me. She was tired and overworked and regardless, so nice and pleasant to me. I was tired too. She walked me to my car and helped me with my bags. Neither of us are spring chickens. She did a great job and is commended.
This center has the worst customer service ever, even preferred customers get very bad service. I booked a car seat with my car and they give me a piece of plastic which does not even have belts to put it in place securely and when I asked about it the employee tells me he does not know anything about car seats and I should figure it out by myself. Why do you even let customers add it on if you guys cant provide? How careless and irresponsible of Avis to put babies lives at risk!
As it relates to PHL, I am not sure why they would send a small shuttle bus on a Monday afternoon which is a busy travel day. It fills up to quickly. I ended up walking from C terminal which is likely faster than the bus anyway. As for the vehicle, it did not look very clean with the drivers seat very stained. I should have taken a pic, but trust me that isnt what you would expect to see.Ill give 3 stars as there was a vehicle available.
Poor customer service. I picked avis due to being in a not at fault accident and the Airport location is closest to my home they turned me away due to not flying and being local resident. Ive rented from avis in the past and had never been treated that way before the customer service line kept transferring in circles and disconnecting my call. I would not recommend this company
UPDATE: the social media response team responds to every bad post on here like they will do something. Completely worthless it’s just a facade. This Avis location should clean house at the counters and all be retrained.Been using Avis only for 5 years and so has my entire company of 22 I will be changing rental car providers immediately after this experience. It was so badI have been doing business with Avis exclusively for almost 5 years have setup our business to do all rentals through and Avis and I utilize personal preferred Avis. We have done hundreds of days of rentals with our Avis Business account over the years. Philadelphia airport Avis was a BAD experience. There were some nice people who helped me find my car initially but the rest...Was in a rush looking for a gas station to fill up before returning there is no signage for any gas station for miles entering the airport once I got stuck entering the airport I pulled into the Avis to let them know I want to fill up the jeep before returning and asked where the gas station was. The very nice girl who was checking my car said there was a WAWA down the road I could drive to but said to go inside to let them know I was doing this and leave my belongings in the car. I went inside and the women behind the counter absolutely would not allow me to leave the lot and was FORCING a $210 gas charge for a 1/3rd of a tank. Well thats a jeep they take a lot of gas! The customer service agent refused to let me go fill the car up said she did me a big favor and gave me a discount without explaining what that was, then handed me a printout and said LOOK, so i read 3 pages of fine print to find out it ended up being $50 off which still left me with $160 gas charge for $30 of gas at most. While I was inside they moved the car with all my items in it and my $400 sunglasses were missing where I put them on top of the dashboard in a silver jeep wrangler. I took my luggage then filed a lost item report. Received multiple emails saying they have not found them.SO to sum it up a forced $210 gas charge and stolen sunglasses at this location. Sub Par customer service and communication.
I rented a vehicle from PHL airport. The vehicle was very clean, and the service at the time of the pickup was good. I had an issue with the cover on the drivers side mirror came off while driving no more than 10 miles from the airport. I was in traffic, and when a semi passed me, the white cover flew off and so I found an exit and drove back around to try and find it, but to no avail. When I returned the vehicle, I immediately informed the gentleman checking the car in and showed him where the cover was missing and explained what had happened. He became very rude, and demanded I pay for the cover being gone. I showed him there was no damage to the vehicle and that it was a defective part, plus I had purchased insurance. He told me if I would pay cash now to have it repaired, it would save me lots of trouble down the line because an investigation would be happening and I would probably end up having to pay a lot more. I refused and was upset, so I left before an issue arose.
There needs to be. Concise information between customer service and office workers. I dont like that you have issues with people using debit cards for rentals. When I called on 18... Number they said yes. Then when I got to counter the rep whispered Im going to allow you to use your debit card this one time. At the counter down from me the lady just informed him of the hold and didnt lean in to whisper nothing to me. Maybe people dont want to use credit cards anymore after paying them off.
I reserved a full size sedan. After a long wait in line at a clearly understaffed dealership, I received a Jeep Wrangler. Due to the long wait for something else, I took what was available. However, it was very difficult to help my 90 year old mother in and out of the Jeep. Then the car wouldnt start. The person I spoke with suggested I jump start it. However, the battery was fully charged. I insisted on a tow and another vehicle. I wasnt able to pick up another vehicle until the car was towed which took a long time. I will say that I was happy with the dealership at Mount Laurel, but I will never rent again from the Philadelphia airport.
It was ok. The agent who got us into a car was helpful and nice, even recommended a place for dinner. She personally gets 5 stars. But the location is dingy and needs a good cleaning. The car was barely clean and sprayed down when we got it, The drop off process is easy almost too easy and no receipt or anything. But their corporate is what gets zero stars. We left something in the car and good luck trying to get in touch with anyone who can help. Fail on that side.
I filled up the car at a gas station then drove to the airport. The gas gauge was still pointing to F when I returned. Still I was charged for the gas to top off for full tank, anything thats different from 14.2 gal. Are you kidding me? There is no gas station at the rental facility, how do you expect me to return 100% full! When I rented with other companies, as long as the gauge points to F, they dont nickel-and-dime customers for the small differences. Avis is so cheap, I will definitely not rent again.
My prefered vehicle was not ready when I got there. I had to go to the counter to get the vehicle number. The clerk gave me the wrong car number and when I went to leave the facility I was told that I could not leave because I had the wrong car. Had to go back and get a different car. Loading luggage into two cars was not pleasurable.
These guys made me run around on 13 Dec 2021 at midnight to get my car at PHL , which was pre booked. I am A preferred customer , then think about how they will treat other customers. I was told to pick my car from preferred counter and none was there at 11:50 pm that day . Then I had to take help from regular counters nice lady. Very bad AVIS a disgrace . If you can’t honor a promise don’t do it .
Avis. What can I say? The rental cars are pretty plain. They work, of course, but nothing like National cars with some extras.2021-07-18The experience is getting worse. One rental this past week was charged to my personal credit card although the trip was booked through work. Funny, the airlines and hotels didnt make this mistake on the same booking. Then, on my last rental of the week the car was topped off with fuel before returning and the attendant acknowledged it. I still got charged for fueling. I caught it via the email receipt that came before jumping on the airport shuttle, but the attendant was unable to resolve it. Ive attempted to get a hold of Avis to resolve these issues, but nonone ever answers before the line gets dropped about 30 minutes on hold. Lovely rental car company. My company is sure saving that money...but now paying for me to deal with Avis issues.
Avis Philadelphia International Airport - There is not enough words to describe why you should stay away from this location. After paying nearly $150/day for a GMC Yukon Denali with over 40,000 miles on it, I noticed the vehicle was driving poorly and had strange sounds coming from the front. Unfortunately, I had a business meeting in Atlantic City and did not have time to turn around and bring it back, nor did I want to deal with the rude staff that was prevalent at this location. Upon arriving in Atlantic City after the one hour highway drive, I decided to investigate for myself, what was wrong with this vehicle. I discovered that both front tires were bald on the inside and the steel belts were were completely worn through. This vehicle could have easily had a blow-out at highway speed risking both my life and my families life. How a reputable rental car company could allow a vehicle on the road in this conditions is completely unacceptable. While in Atlantic City, I called the Avis roadside assist and they NEVER answered the phone. In the end, I took the vehicle back to the Atlantic City location and was give a Hyundai Santa Fe, because they had no large SUVs available. I was never offered any compensation for the downgrade and paid for the rate of the full size SUV. The monetary issue is secondary. It is the safety issue that clearly shows that Avis is not checking their vehicles for safety. More than likely, these tires were the original tires and rental car companies are holding onto older vehicles longer and not checking them for safety.
The car was not cleaned in fact I removed Chips from under the front seat, there was dirt on the passager floor and I wouldnt even put my suitcase in the truck area due to dirt in there. I didnt complain or say anything mistakes happen and the gas tank was not full. Gas had 235 mile to empty I have a picture of it and I returned it with 243 miles to empty and you charged me for fuel. Now Im complaining your taking my money I work for due to what your employees incompetence I now will be disputing charges on my credit card and not using your service anymore. I even told the attendant when I dropped it off about the fuel and she said I would not be charged that you all keep records of how full the tank was. I thought it was odd when I rented it that the guy did not do a walk through with me.
The car had a high mileage, an annoying noise coming from the rear axel indicated a misalignment or something wrong with the tires, the car was not clean and smelled like an old dog had been living in it. Absolutely disgusting. I arrived exhausted last Thursday after a long international flight and i noticed these issues when I was already on the road.
Cost was the lowest I found. Service also was low. I signed up for a six day rental of a Toyota Corolla or equal. I picked up the car at PHL after dark on Thursday. It was a Kia Soul. About 15 miles into my drive to a motel, I noticed a 9 inch crack in the windshield on the drivers side. Once at the motel I telephoned Avis at PHL to report the crack. I did not want to return to PHL, so the rep suggested I go to an Avis branch. Friday I visited the Avis Feasterville branch hoping to exchange the Soul. They had no cars to exchange and were not expecting any to be returned that day. The rep took my contact info and said I would be contacted. I telephoned the branch Saturday and spoke to a second rep. He was sympathetic but had no car to exchange. The branch is closed on Sunday, so I understood he would contact me on Monday and hopefully exchange the Soul. I did not hear from Avis on Monday. Or on Tuesday or Wednesday. I turned in the the Soul with a cracked windshield to Avis PHL on Wednesday.
First, my name was not on Preferred list at the airport. After a weeks use and return I never received a rental receipt for my business expenses. Web site did not have the receipt either, even 3 days later. Chat feature on web site did not work. Call center required a 30 minute wait. Eventually was told the car was not recorded as being checked back into AVIS. Had to fill out a form and now have to wait up to 5 days for a resolution. Car was also VERY expensive. So much for being Preferred! :)
My wife and I were in Philadelphia for the funeral of her mother. We were going to be riding with my son, his wife and family who were renting two cars from Avis. However, we needed one car a day early and also for an additional few hours. Initially, the agents said I would not be able to rent a car, in my name. We asked for the manager and she came and took care of it completely. She was courteous, understanding, professional and everything you would want in a manager. I meant to ask for her name, but was unable to get it. PLEASE let her know of my thanks - you have a GREAT person in charge!
I have been going to this Avis for the past 18 week due on request of my company. There has numerous occasions where I have been charged for fuel service. I fill up the tank before I return the car each and every time. I have been charge for fuel service a handful of times. It is rediculous! I had to spend almost $20 one time out of pocket for fuel service. Waiting to get a hold of their customer service team will take you hours of waiting, and then the conversation will get you nowhere. If I ever have to use a rental service out near PHL Airport, I would rather pay out of my own pocket for another rental company instead of than have my company give them another dime. All consumers beware, and please take a picture of your gas gauge because they will steal money from you.
First rented vehicle stated on dash...MAINTENANCE REQUIRED. So I returned the vehicle. Second, vehicle left large OIL SPILLs on the driveway and was towed away. Third car I got an additional charge for what I done know yet. Poor service, they dont maintain their vehicles, they just pass the sick vehicle on to the next unassuming customer. Horrible!
The worst Avis location... avoid PHL.Gas tank was half full, dented front hood, dirty interior, and this was the THIRD car that I looked at. I didn’t realize the dented hood until after I left. They were nice about cleaning the interior since it was leather, but all 3 cars were dirty! Not the first time I’ve been disappointed with this location. I wish I could give 0 stars
Would give them no stars if available.. Worst service ever. Told a debit card was able to be used, since My husbands credit card hadnt arrived yet, had us drive a hour, wait even longer and had us call our credit card company just to deny us a rental. The manager was rude and unhelpful. He was more concerned with talking to a friend (I assume). The front desk ladies were okay, well, one was really nice. GET YOUR EMPLOYEES ON THE SAME PAGE! CANT HAVE ONE DEPARTMENT TELLING CUSTOMERS ONE THING AND ANOTHER DEPARTMENT SAYING ANOTHER!!
Got my paperwork done after standing in a long line. Got the parking space where the car is. No car was in that spot. I had to schlep my bags back inside where I had to wait for another car. I finally got one after being there about 40 minutes. Meanwhile everyone else was on their way, including folks who were way behind me on line.
We rented a car for three days and returned it on time on the third day. After a couple of days when we visited avis car rental again to rent another car, they realized that we havent returned the old car thus preventing us from renting any other modes of transport and will charge us for these extra days where we didnt even have their vehicle. What kind of service is this where you cant find the record of a missing car which by the way the customer has already returned. Now theyre sending us to the Philadelphia international airport to deal things on our own.
I had a reservation for a car. Showed up for my reservation, they completed the paperwork and it was $30 more than my confirmed rate. They said they didnt have any cars in the size I ordered so they gave me a different car, charged me for it and didnt tell me until I looked back at my confirmation. They said I would have to wait until the right size car was returned. It may be 10 minutes or a half hour or longer. After bringing the manager over they finally gave me a car at the contracted rate. An hour later I was on my way. On a positive note, the shuttle bus came quickly and the driver was very nice.
I was not totally satisfied with Avis because they gave us a Nissan Pathfinder that was dirty inside and out. We asked them to clean it and they half washed it on the outside and didnt touch the inside. The car was having tire pressure issues (every 40-45 minutes, putting air in tire). We switched the car in another state and AGAIN the car was dirty inside and definitely inside. The lines was so long that we just took it because we didnt want to waste any more of our vacation time in Avis. Spending that kind of money on a rental, service should be above the top as well as the vehicle.
Very pleasant experience. We came in on a Friday afternoon to pick up the car and the line was a bit long but the manager jumped on the counter and that really speed things up. Beside the little wait everything was smooth sailings. We were upgraded to the cutest SUV (KIA-Sportage) it was super clean and drove well. To return the car was ridiculously simple just followed the signs that said car rental return, pulled behind one of the other returned cars and that was it. The buses they use to get us to the airport were running constantly. We didnt have to wait on the way to pick up the car or on the way to the airport. Great job Avis Philadelphia
Making the reservation online and picking up the vehicle at Philadelphia airport went smooth. Returning the vehicle is where it went bad. We filled up the vehicle before we dropped it off. Nobody checks you in or checks the vehicle. They have you park in a line of vehicles being returned and tell you to leave it running. I turned it off so it didnt waste fuel. Over an hour later while at the airport I got an email receipt and they charged me $19.58 for 2 gallons of gas. I immediately called while at the airport and spoke to Carlos with customer service. He was rude when I said I filled the vehicle right before we returned it and he tried telling me people dont understand how newer vehicles work. I told him I had a receipt for the fuel but nobody checked me to show the receipt to. I gave him the receipt info over the phone and told he would issues a refund and would see it within 48 hours. 9 days later and still I refund. Tried calling again but was on hold for a long time then a recording came on saying customer service was closed. Still trying to get this resolved but will never rent from Avis again. So I was contacted by Avis the day after writing this asking to send an email with a reference # and more info. I did that immediately the same day, 6 days ago, and still no reply or refund. Again, worst customer service and will never use again.
Overall, I had a really good experience with Avis. The cars are clean and new; and the people are very friendly. However, I dont like how I get penalized for planning ahead and being punctual. I pre-paid for my car so that I could guarantee the car and the price. But because I turned the car in a bit early, the cost of the car was less. I overpaid ~$50, but was not refunded that amount. I understand that this is company policy, but I think its unfair.
Booked online reservation for car at Philadelphia Airport confirmation given when I arrived unable to recieve car due to ATM card not major credit. They would not allow my sister to paybfor me over phone either. They were very rude uncaring. Their rude unprofessional behavior made a bad situation only worst.more than usual others complaining this day September 11 2021 around 4:30pm. Unclean cars, poor selection to choose from. Myself and others ended up calling Uber. Very bad experience I dont plan to ever attempt to rent from AVIS again. Very traumatic being 88 miles away from home and denied a vehicle 😕😑
Well I like the service agent, and the car was very clean and comfortable. But when I picked the car up I didnt tell the agent at the front desk that I worked for avis budget this year. When I returned the rental at the Philadelphia airport thats when I told the car service agent I know the supervisors at Tamp airport location. He knows a few supervisors there. Great conversation with the agent. Thank you avis budget
The vehicle assigned was in excellent condition and quite comfortable. The gas mileage was great, being that it was a hybrid vehicle. The price was competitive, considering the factthat the reservation was made a hour before pickup. The wait time was much less than the original company for which a reservation was made.
I have rented from you about 7 times since March 2020. I was living in California but had a Delaware drivers license. (I now have a California license). I was nearly in tears because no one will rent to me cuz of having a Delaware drivers license. I was going to my brothers funeral and I had a return date on my plane ticket. AVIS was the only one that would rent to me and did a soft credit check. The lady that helped me was a pure angel. She got approval for me to rental a car and I will continue to rent from AVIS because how I was treated. Thank you.
We have been Avis customers for many years, but recently we have noticed a steady decline in the quality of service. With our most recent rental (Philadelphia Airport) the car had damage that we could not see when we picked up the car, as it was late at night and the car was wet. It was barely clean, not the shiny sparkling cars to which we were accustomed. This is not the first time that has happened at that location. In addition, the car had North Carolina plates but no license tabs. In view of COVID, we all have to lower expectations, but this particular location has always delivered a low standard of service. The two women in the office were the only decent thing about the experience. They did their best to get us a car with a trunk, but, nobody noticed that we were given a damaged car (rear fender damage). We are considering switching our preferred rental company.
The car I received had a quarter tank worth of gas, I returned the car on a half of tank of gas. They charged me $64 stating the car was on full when I received it. Now they dont want to issue me a refund. I will never rent from them again. My paperwork does not indicate where the fuel was at. They are a rip off and Im highly disappointed in them for them to be a large corporation. The customer service needs improvement and the managers are rude.
I had one of the most wonderful experiences beginning at the front desk of the rental agency. I had a list of locations that l wanted to visit, and not knowing how to use the GPS feature of my phone. The agent Roxanne, took the time to get me the info on her phone, write it all down, giving me the best route possible to get there. She and other members of the staff were very professional. On my next trip to the city, l will definitely use Avis for my car rental.
Grateful for these guys - they explained things clearly and made my rental experience easy. Easy to access Shuttle comes by to grab you (look for the Avis red bus in the rental car zone - comes every 15 mins or so). I wish that there were better phone numbers available to get help, but alas, all airline related phone numbers have always notoriously been horrible, so I cant really dock them on this because it seems to be industry standard.
Well, you gave me a car that had almost no fuel in the car even though the app said it was full. Caught it at the booth, HOWEVER, there was a line of cars behind me and they offered NO help really to fill up the car fuel. Mind you the booth attendant wrote on the contract ticket a level 1 of fuel and wrote his employee number on it, but as a good renter I returned the car full of fuel though the car was provided to me basically empty. ZERO QC of the vehicle before putting it in its slot. I rarely have any good experience at PHL Airport AVIS and not have a full take and then me pay for a full tank is BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE. On Return the agent checking in the car saw the note on the contract ticket and said she would mention the situation to her manager. Nothing has been done to correct the issue which takes minutes. I will be canceling my next trip reservation with AVIS and book with National my alternative and consider staying with National at PHL and probably from now on. If I could unclick the 1 star and give zero stars I would. I am a frequent AVIS customer. not anymore. You DONT give business clients a vehicle with an empty gas tank. The entire PHL AVIS staff should be replaced.
My rental experience was ok, despite being directed to the wrong location, representative did not make me return to regular rental area and was able to secure my vehicle within 15 minutes. The printer was not working so I was unable to receive a receipt or paperwork at the time of rental and there was no paperwork indicating the hold that was placed on my rental. This definitely needs to be corrected.
We waited over 1hr after landing from a 5hr flight at 5am on Sunday morning for a shuttle bus to take us to the car rental center. Despite calling customer service on no less than 15 occasions they were not helpful eventually I paid $20 to an enterprise driver to drop me off to Avis/Budget. All this with my wife and 3 month old baby crying throughout.
Vehicle pick-up was a bit confusing. Their instructions they give you for this airport were NOT correct. Once we found the pick-up location, then everything from pick-up to drop-off was smooth. Car was great. We returned the car with a full tank of fuel, which was noted by the attendee. We were later charged a fuel charge, with no notification or explanation. Very disappointing and misleading.
Had a car booked, but travel plans changed due to tropical storm Grace. Attempted to add ONE day to rental and was quoted over $350 for additional day. I canceled order and rebooked online with the additional day and it was CHEAPER than original booking. Also, I am signed up for the Preferred service just to arrive to no car. Had to stand in line for over 40 mins to see a representative. Each of the last 3 times I book with Budget or Avis, the workers I come into contact with are awesome, but your online support is absolutely horrible. This was my third attempt dealing with your company with the same results each time. The people I am in direct contact with are great and the people behind the phone and the emails seem to not care. Also, everything with your company directs the consumer to the phone app. Everytime I try to use it, something is wrong and I have to call and sit on hold anyways.
Flew in 3 months every week and didnt matter what time of day but counter always has one attended, two if your lucky. Expect delays.... Also Avis Preferred app has only worked once where I have been able to go straight to my car. Very frustrating. The same lady at the counter is nice though.Update 7/26; First time in 3 months Avis Preferred app worked when I landed, car was ready never went to the counter. Much better experience!
Absolutely horrific experience at Avis @ PHL. The customer service women were SCREAMING at customers and saying things like gimme me your ID and much much much more. Cant even fathom this and put it into words. God awful. The only person that was nice was William during my car pick up, the man at the exit gate. He didnt do too much but because of those awful women, I praised the ground William walked on.
My first car had a very bad wheel bearing noise and I found around 5mm of play when I stopped. I exchanged it at an alternate Avis location but had to visit two before I could get a car. The replacement was not much better. The first had over 57000 miles, the second had 37000 miles. Bottom line is dont take a car from PHL Avis, this was not my first bad car from them
Thursday 14Oct at approximately 7pm at PHL International Airport, we waited over 45 minutes to be picked up to be taken to Avis lot. Then a bus came and it was Budget/Avis mini-bus that only held ~20 people. Then everyone waited in line again since only 2 agents were on the job. From the time we got our bags to driving out of Avis lot was over 2 hours - that is unacceptable. Additionally, the inside of the windows were so dirty it was extremely difficult to see driving in the dark to our final destination.
I was given a car that should have been out of commission it wasnt cleaned properly nor inspected. I was driving down the road with my family in the car headed to our destination and the rear passenger bumper started to fly off which put us and anyone around us in danger. I tried calling customer service to speak to someone about what happened and they kept transferring me to the nationwide location, which was no help and I was actually hung up on during the transfer to roadside assistance. When I returned the car I told them that something needed to he done and they said we can credit your bill $100 , but never once explaining to me how rhis happened but that it should have never been rented out to me. Which means you you put my family and I in danger because no one did their job properly. Once I said I wanted to file a report and speak to a supervisor in regards to the situation they told me I had to wait until Monday to call someone. I called and once again kept being transferred to the nationwide customer service line and was again not helped. I will be moving forward with this and notifying my credit card company and the police of your negligence since you cant simply tell me how I was given a damaged car when you are suppose to inspect and clean all your cars before renting them out.
The shuttle NEVER came after I waited an hour! Another rental car company was nice enough to drop me off. There was only one associate working with a long line of customers waiting. Once I arrived at the counter I wasn’t greeted with a simple hello or a how are you. He went right into the info and steps. What happened to good ole fashioned customer service and simply saying hi to a customer before processing the reservation?! I’m VERY disappointed in the lack of reliability (shuttle) and the horrible way in which I was addressed during the entire transaction. Avis has to do better!!!
I have been an Avis Preferred customer for nearly twenty years and the pick-up experience at the Philadelphia airport was terrible. The only reason this rating is a 4 and not lower is considering the ease of drop off at the Baltimore airport. At other airports my pick-up experience has been that I have a car assignment listed on the board or Im given the choice of several cars on one row. This time on the board it referred me to the Preferred check in desk. This probably wouldve been adequate had it been operational. Instead, I was told to go wait in line in the main office. I stood in line for half an hour waiting to be serviced, while the three reps were working on what appeared to be a difficult transaction with another customer. Finally, I was serviced and told to wait in front of the building for the car to be brought around. I waited another 10 minutes before I walking over to another worker who could only be described as reclining in the driver seat of a vehicle. I asked him what the hold up was about, to which he explained how short staffed they were (yet he had time to relax in the car). I also asked if this was the typical check in procedure for Preferred clients or was today a fluke. He explained that due to under staffing this is the norm. Also in the past, my reservations have been with unlimited miles and I was charged $.40/mile with this rental. I didnt realize rental companies still charged per mile, and I can honestly say I didnt notice this at the time of booking because Ive never experienced it with past rentals as Avis Preferred. Id like to think this is just a one-off experience localized to just this one location, since Ive used the rental sites at BWI and SFO more often and have received excellent service. But I also wonder, if this is how you treat your Preferred customers in Philly, how do you treat everyone else?
Rental was fine. The receipt you sent me wont open either in my browser (Chrome) or in my Preview app; wants me to get Internet Explorer or Acrobat Reader. I havent had a problem opening pdf files from any other company. This would have been a bigger issue if this had been a business rental. As it is now Ill wait for the charge to post to my card and if there are any surprises Ill merely dispute the charge.
This seems to be a Philadelphia Airport thing. The bus at the terminal took 20mins from the time I started waiting. The 1st car had 41k miles, was beat up, run down, and smelled of cigarettes. The second car had 41k miles also, but was a step up (it didnt stink). The agent at the counter when giving me the second car provided a rental card with someone elses name. That added 5mins to getting out of the lot. When I returned, the wait for the bus rounded 25mins, so I walked over to B terminal, and traveled down to C terminal to get in via TSA pre-chek.(I needed to be at A19 - but I needed the walk too!)I was very unhappy when the same experience happened 2 weeks in a row...
I had a great experience at Avis PHL. I felt so bad about having to switch my car since it was a little too big for me. Segen was so understanding and even though they were super busy at the time she was able to juggle my switcheroo with all the other calls she was taking. Might have to switch from enterprise!
Had a flat tire, discovered after attending a wedding reception, around 10:30pm. After my insurance sent someone to take a look, they left unable to fix it because there was NO SPARE TIRE. We spent another hour waiting for Avis to try and dispatch a tow truck, REFUSING to send an Uber until the tow truck had arrived (already 2am at this point). Dispatch finally called back saying they couldnt find a tow truck but finally got a hold of one in possibly 2-3 hours. We ended up taking an Uber back to where we were staying, arriving around 4am. After picking up a replacement rental, they let me know the original rental didnt get towed until 6am.
Ive had horrible service in Philly. I show up, my car isnt ready, missing or is wrong. The Avis Preferred rep has never been at the remote office to help. Ive had to walk back to the main counter to get help each time Ive rented. Now that I am traveling again, post-covid, I have been to Philly 4 times. Twice, I ended up at the gate to get out of the lot, but the paperwork was not correct. It has been a complete nightmare. I will not be using Avis next time I travel. If your competitors do better, Ill be using them going forward
Absolute worst experience with Avis! I am an avid car renter since I travel quite frequently and so Ive tried quite a few car rental places in various cities. This is hands down one of the worst experiences Ive had in terms of renting. My family and I flew into PA from TX and reserved a car with Avis. Immediately while waiting for a shuttle to the location, we were met with a shortage of shuttle drivers so the wait to even get to Avis was an hour PLUS. Then when we actually arrived, we were met with a line of 50 people and 2 associates and empty unattended counters. We had reserved a standard size SUV and was given the crappiest one with a broken side mirror and dents and scratches all along the car. The associates were rude when we pointedout the cosmetic issues and when we mentioned that the inside console was sticky and full of trash while also smelling exactly like cigarettes they basically shrugged their shodwrs and made it clear they do not care. Honestly it would be better to pay a little more and be met with better service from companies like Alamo or Enterprise. I also was put on hold with customer service for more than 1 hour when I was trying to inquire about switching SUVs.
Without checking. This place charged me fuel service for 215.00 despite I filled the car with gas. Assuming the charges are automatically on the reservation and would be taking out when I drop off. Makes me feel they see if the customer dont check the receipt, now I have to waist my time and call avis. Shady customer service at this location
I am a preferred member and my car was not available. Then once inside waited in line for nearly an hour with 15-20 other customers experiencing the same issue. One person working the counter and seemingly only one person working the cars. Not sure what the pros of being a preferred member are.
All staff at Avis Car Rental in Philadelphia airport were so attentive, polite , helpful and supportive. I arrived at 10:00pm and got a car in 10 min. During drop off attendee help me to move my boxes to Avis shuttle bus. Driver helped me unload . I was at my terminal in 15 minutes. Avis Customer service was absolutely outstanding
My entire experience renting from Avis was nothing short of Fantastic! I had a one-way rental, and the price was great... the people at the airport location in PHL were great... the car itself was great ...and the people at the airport location in HTS were *ALSO* great!! Super satisfied!! =)
I was surprised that when I tried to get the my car rental the front desk employee told me that Avis does not honor the car insurance coverage from Expedia. To be on the safe side I have no choice but to get another coverage from Avis. The amount is $250.00 that was charged to my credit card. For me, this is a rip off and should be eliminated. What is the use of partnering with Expedia?
This is a 2nd review in a few months. The first was a 3 due to the condition of the car and cleanliness. This is a five, although the car would have gotten a 4 for condition and cleanliness, the staff would get a 10+. Absolutely great people at this location. Friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and cheerful from the billing process, to the parking lot staff, to the shuttle drivers, these people are a credit to Avis and should be commended for outstanding service.
I had a problem a few weeks ago I was scammed out of $250.00. There were a few women at the airport Avis office they helped me out. I believe one of women was a Miss Fox and the other was Miss Tarnasia. I hope I have both of their names right. I wanted to thank them for all the help they have given me. Avis will be the only rental car company I will be working with. Please find a way to let them know I appreciate them.
Nice car. Quick check-out and check-in process. But I needed to return the car with a full tank, even though they gave it to me only 3/4 full. And I was not given the opportunity to inspect the car for damage prior to driving it out of a dark garage to my destination.
I spent most of my trip trying to speak to customer service to update my rental agreement to the car that was given to me when I arrived at the airport. My original car was given to someone else which I understand and dont have a problem with as I was delayed more than 1 hour. My original car was still tied to my account and driving around Philadelphia. My problem is with me trying to reach customer service to rectify the error avis made and spent more than 4 hours trying to reach someone and get the help I needed. After all that time on the phone, I arrived at the airport and it was still not fixed and then had to wait another 30 min to get the whole thing rectified. Also the car that they did give me was filthy, had low tire pressure and the wipers were bad which made driving in the rain very difficult. All in this was my worst avis experience ever
I was treated very poorly at the counter. I have a wizard number and it was never acknowledge. I was charged a ridiculous deposit. I never received a receipt. When I called the next day to get a receipt they told me it could take up to 10 days for a receipt. I asked where the receipt was going and they could not help me locate that information, however did get this ridiculous survey, as a result I am filing a formal complaint. This rental was for business purposes and I have no receipt to show my organization to get reimbursed. I will never use Avis again.
Shuttle never came. Had to walk over here from the terminal. They only have two people working the counter and are taking 15-20 minutes per customer with a line out the door. Youd be better off walking wherever you need to go.Initially said the shuttle never came. After walking over on my own, a shuttle showed up at the office 40 minutes after I got there followed immediately by a second shuttle - so they just need to manage things better.
I booked a suv. During agreement paperwork I enquired about pre purchase gas which I was told would be around $30. I was given a full size suv and during agreement, the gas came upto $74 at which point I asked for it to be removed. I was told to go-ahead with the agreement and the charge be dropped off at the end. After agreement, I was kept waiting for a long time and was told that it cannot be dropped and I cannot cancel and make a new agreement. I used only a quarter tank and way overpaid for a service inefficiency from the PHL counter staff.
I am a preferred member my company books my cars for me . They book the car with no additional insurance and my settings on my account are for no additional insurance . I somehow got charged 275 dollars for extra insurance I never signed up for never clocked for and never asked for. This is exactly like another review from here.I made a claim send them all the proof I had and they responded that I signed up for it. I emailed them back and said can you please send me whatever document where it showed that I agreed to signed for or clicked in agreement for this extra insurance . Still have not received a reply to my follow up email
The customer service I received from Ramon was absolutely stellar. He was so understanding, which is exactly what I needed after a super long day of driving. I plan on using Avis again in the near future, but I will download their app for faster pickup. The counter representative was nice, but the process just took a little longer than I wanted at 430am. No complaints otherwise.
Please review the policy of charging customers a flat fuel fee when the usage mileage is less than 75 miles. I was charged $15.99 but got a refund back after providing a proof tank gas level mileage and a fueling receipt from a nearby gas station. I believe that this policy will harm your reputation and cause customer dissatisfaction because its based mainly on guessing.
Went inside asked for an vehicle for an whole week and Avis sells personal did what she wanted to do instead of what I requested and booked me for 1 day instead. So when it was a week later and I dropped the vehicle off to catch my flight they refused to give me my 300$ deposit back on my cc and said I had the vehicle longer so I don’t get anything back which came up to a total of 600$ and some change. I feel like I was scammed because how could someone at the front desk do this and all Avis did was off me 30$ toward my next rental as if that solved my issue. I’m not allowing this to slide.Be very careful with your cc when dealing with this company
The Toyota Avalon I rented had uneven tire pressures. 40 on the left and 26 and 33 on the right. The right front was low enough to trigger the pressure sensor. It was braking with a rumble in the back on the first day. I called Road Service which I paid for and it took 9 hours to complete process, getting car towed and me back to PHL to get another car. Dispatch sent me to the Avis maintenance facility instead of the airport. Then I had to get another car share to PHL. (Avis paid) I lost a whole day with my 94 year old father. On the good side, the staff was very helpful and I was promised a days refund. Beware of current car rentals. I dont think cars are being checked well before they go out. Had the same issue with Hertz in GA in May. Get the roadside assistance!
This was the worst experience Ive ever had with renting a car. Ive been renting cars from enterprise, but decided to give avis a chance and boy do i regret it. I prepaid to reserve a jeep wrangler for my trip. Unfortunately my plane had mechanical issues so I had to fly in to the Newark Airport at the last minute. When I called to see if I could pick up a jeep at that location they let me know that they had a jeep there but that it would cost me an additional $300+ for me to pick it up since it was a transfer fee. So I asked for the cheapest option. I was told I could pick up a camry like vehicle for an additional $24. At that point I had no other option so I took it. The car I was given ended up having a tire that could not hold pressure. When I took it to this location and told the attendant about the tire I was asked what I wanted to do at that point, like it was not obvious that I needed a working vehicle. I was then given a Nissan that had a shoddy screen wouldnt work unless I turned the car off and then back on a couple of times. This was terrible as I am not familiar with the local roads and was easily getting lost whenever the screen would fail. At one point the screen just turned completely blue. Finally, after I returned the vehicle, I was charged an additional $95 for half a tank of gas. I dont know if the gas there is magic or what to justify that crazy price but this put me off from ever renting from avis and possibly not even returning to jersey until absolutely necessary. From now on Im sticking with Enterprise.
Two rear tires showed wear bars. One rear tire had a leak, which required removal of a 2 inch nail and a plug. The rear hatch upon opening would then close, sometimes hitting me in the head. The key fob battery needs replacement. This vehicle basically sucked. Avis should be ashamed for renting it to me.
I was here on Thursday morning (8-830AM) of 9/17. It was a good experience overall. I was there to assist a colleague for the day and also had to drive the extra rental. Kind of hard for one person to drive two cars. The process was easy inside the customer service office; I gave my license to the front desk person and it was all clear from there until there was a hiccup at the rental exit.My colleague was in the car in front of mine--very clean, I might add--so I could follow him back to our meeting place. He was able to exit and interact with the exit person ok. I was next and had to show my license again, which I know was required. The person was confused at my saying that I was the actual co-worker with the extra rental. The whole interaction made me feel like I was trying to get over on someone, like I somehow couldnt really be the co-worker. That suspicion makes me feel like I was being profiled by an employee of Avis. Im not sure why I was told something different if everything was settled at the front desk.I was able to return the car with no problems. I was really happy with the rental and performance despite the slightly uncomfortable situation.
Do not rent from this location. They are a bunch of shady con artists. The vehicle wasn’t even clean when I first got it as I started to find things on the floor under the seats a day later, but that’s not even the worst of it. I returned my car in perfectly good condition and then a month later got a $450 smoking charge. First, I do not even smoke. Secondly, when they sent pictures of the ashes in the car, there were items in the picture that didn’t belong to me, such as an Eagles cup that had ashes in it, meaning someone else was in the car after me. Also, it said I drove 527 miles, which is more than twice what I drove. They told me since I don’t have pictures of what the car looked like when I returned it the charges are valid. It’s complete BS. I recommend not using Avis AT ALL because of the poor customer service, but I strongly recommend never using this location because they are clearly a bunch of scammers and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the employees taking the cars out.
The AVIS team at Philadelphia airport is understaffed. They are struggling to provide minimal service. They did their best with limited staff to provide me service, but overall my experience was a complete failure. I do not blame it on them. They did the best they could with limited resources and tried to provide service in a positive way. Here are list of issues with my rental. 1 - Avis shuttle to rental facility never showed up. We waited over 30 minutes and then the budget van was kind enough to take us. 2 - I waited in line for over 30 minutes to get my car even though I was a preferred member. My car was not ready for me to pick up. 3 - The car I rented smelled like a cigarette. My son has issues with car sickness. He was barely able to travel in the car. 4 - I had to alert my checkout person to note the smoke smell and the scratches on the car. They did not catch them. 5 - When I arrived to drop off my car after the rental was complete, there was no service person waiting for me. 6 - I had to wait in line for 20 minutes to make sure someone checked in my car. 7 - When I finally found a check in representative, the system charged me for fuel, even though the tank was filled up 1 mile away from the rental facility (note, the representative was kind enough to go back into the office and remove the charge). Bottom line, the representatives did their best to provide great service, but ultimately it was a failure because there is not enough staff to handle the operation. Also, the system and processing issues show a lack in investment in the business. I will seriously consider not renting from AVIS in the future.
I returned my vehicle with a 100% full tank, I had just filled up 2 miles before I dropped the car. There was no one there when returning to check cars they just said to leave the keys in the car. One week later I notice a fuel charge for $127! I called and was told they put 10 gallons on gas in the car, I know for a fact that wasnt even possible! I am NOT happy with Avis and the scam they are trying to pull on me.

2022-06-08The bus driver who picked us up was friendly and helpful. Danae I think thats how you spell her name. She is such a Great ambassador for your company. Friendly and helpful. When we had our first flight cancelled and had to rebook on another airline and it seemed like nothing was going well. The only thing that went well was the service we got from yall. Thank you so much for the quick service so we could get on the road. The pickup truck was clean.

2022-06-21:: FALSE FUEL CHARGES ::I rented the vehicle for a week & returned with full tank of gas (see photo). But they still tried to charge me for fuel service. I had to call into their customer service and waste 1/2 an hour on the phone to dispute the charges. Literally, I could not fill up the tank any more - the pump kicked off because the tank was full.BEWARE - always take pictures before and after of the entire vehicle and fuel gauge.

2022-05-05The shuttle to the rental center took over 20 minutes. The first car given to us already had damage done to the vehicle so driving at any speed above 20mph came with an incessant humming and rumbling. Then during our drive a tire was popped after hitting a pothole and the process of swapping out the car was not smooth. Then with the second car we were given, the gas tank was less than half full and the car smelled like someone smoked in it, but tried to mask the smell. Also, I was penalized for returning the car with a half full gas tank even though thats how it was given to me and I spoke with Customer Support over the phone promising me that they updated the Avis Drop Off Location about it all ahead of time.

2022-05-20Visit turned out poorly. Used Avis preferred, our first rental had burnt out tires with no traction. The second rental offered to us was damaged; therefore preventing the passenger door from opening. We then proceeded to wait an hour for a car to be cleaned and brought out for us to drive. Service was decent but overall ridiculous my family had to wait as other customers just rolled out with ease despite paying for better convince.

2022-01-07Good experience walking in and getting out. No complaints on the check-in, checkout or using the rental car shuttles.I got a Kia and wouldnt ever opt for that one, if I have a choice. Neither the windshield wipers nor the sprayer worked. Hard to drive in chilly conditions in that regards.

2022-06-25I have an issue with the gas prepay. I specifically asked the person at the counter if they prorated the amount based on how much fuel that I used. I’m other words, if I only use 1/4 of a tank, what would they charge. She said Avis would only charge the 1/4 at the going rate of $5.26 per gallon. When I returned this vehicle , I only used 8 gallons, so at the rate quoted, that would be $42.08. I was never credited from the $100.69. I am due a credit of $58.61. Until corrected, I am telling my colleagues and friends and family of my terrible experience. Didn’t know bait and switch happened in the rental business to steal hard earned family income. Pretty upsetting!

2021-12-29I reserved a minivan online for my family of six. Upon arrival to the rental car counter, they did not have the minivan we reserved and seemed to be scrambling for a suitable replacement. They produced a 2020 Nissan pathfinder which proceeded to breakdown on us less than 30 minutes later when we stopped for lunch. We waited almost an hour for roadside service who was able to jump the battery, but not put air in the tire which had a low pressure indicator on. We were able to make it to our destination that afternoon, but awoke the next morning to a car that would not start and a tire that was completely flat. This was Christmas Eve morning. We had to place another call to roadside assistance, who came and towed the car, and then we had to get transportation to the Atlantic City Airport to get a replacement vehicle. This was a complete disaster. Never renting from Avis again.P.S. This morning I received an email from Avis informing me that they are charging my credit card for the charges for the roadside assistance to have the battery started in the rental car lemon they gave me!! Time to get my attorney involved.

2022-02-01Always reliable, even through the pandemic when it was hard to get cars. I have to praise the new Avis Lewes @ the Ferry terminal especially. Lisa is the nicest person and even when I picked up a car a day after a snow storm, it was dug out and waiting for me warmed up!

2022-06-22I booked the car in advance and still when I arrived there was no cars available. Zero cars in the inventory, how can a company like AVIS which has advanced orders does not have cars in the inventory, cant they make arrangements earlier? At least help us with alternate options such as preferred taxi services that is safe or make arrangements for stay/next steps.Worst of all no consideration or sympathy from the employees either, just a simple statement no cars please wait.Bring a AVIS preferred customer I was completely disappointed.

2022-06-16The only good thing about this rental car company is that their lot is within walking distance from the terminal. Dont wait for the lone bus to come by every half hour. It will be full and just pass you by. Think that Avis preferred status means something? Forget about it. Plan to stand in line with everyone else albeit at a different counter that requires most in line to stand outside in the heat or cold to maintain social distancing.
