Beautiful restaurant. Great staff and service. Came here with my family of 6 for my mom’s birthday, and the experience was top notch. The food was delicious. We especially loved the Thai wings and had 3 servings of them. Everything else was also delicious. Our server was patient and attentive, and we had little wait time. I will definitely return here again.
My first time at this restaurant was surprisingly a good one in March 2021 BUT I jst went there this past Saturday and things where not the same the drinks 👎 definitely fell off it’s like mixed drinks wit no experience and the salmon my husband had I dnt know if it was store brought and than refrigerator or cooked and than refrigerator either way it was dry and tasteless surprisingly the cornbread was good 🙃
For the money it’s OVERRATED seafood mac & cheese ?? Where’s the cheese absolutely GENERIC!! The salmon burger spicy and bland my short rib with mashed potatoes and 6 green beans salty AF!!! I support all black businesses I need to know who cooks the food cause this is unacceptable!!!!
Always a good time when real ones link up. Let me start by saying, I arrived super emotional (one of those mornings) and the owner(love her)& the staff were soo empathetic, attentive and just present!! We need MORE of this in todays world. I appreciated that. The hugs were rich in time. THANK YOU🤗🤗Soo after all that, I decided to get a mango mimosas and then a strawberry mimosas, both were super delish!! 🥂My girls salad was tasty. My smoked salmon egg omelette was also delish. No raw taste onions👏🏾👏🏾 The surprise taste of feta cheese was extra yummy, I had to ask for more lolThe atmosphere is always soo warm welcoming. Its like Im in my backyard. Love the feeling!Cant wait to revisit.
Nice spot to come and grab brunch. Our waiter was very cool and polite. Highly recommend the chicken sliders as an appetizer! Had the chicken & waffles for my entree which was also pretty good, but the chicken needed just a little bit more flavor. Otherwise, I’d say give this place a shot.
First time here and I cannot say enough. Food was excellent, service was great and one of the best Happy Hours around. The $7.00 draft special was my favorite and well worth the visit. It gets a little crowded but we went early found parking and had our pick of seating.
Atmosphere, Services, and FoodThe initial service to be seated was fast. However, the seating was kinda tight. I wish the lights were on where I was sitting or candlelight wouldve been wonderful. My waiters name was Jo Jo she was informative with all the specials. She was prompt with drinks and food.My food was the salmon burger with fries. The salmon burger was delicious it was spicy with a little bit of sweetness to balance out the flavor. I wasnt too crazy about the fries they taste old.My overall experience was incredible, yes I would recommend others.
Best Vibe!!!! As soon as we walked up to the door the hostess Pam greeted with a smile and was very accommodating. The service was prompt. The bar staff Tiffany was so kind. Food was tasty from the great menu options. Looking for a friendly and relaxed spot Bookers is the place
I stopped here for dinner twice during the last year. Both times I had the deviled eggs appetizer, along with Fish & Chips for the main course, and the food was absolutely delicious! The staff was very friendly and professional.I had dined streetside during my first visit & indoors during my second visit - the atmosphere was great in both locations. An overall outstanding dining experience on both visits.
Service was great, but food was not extraordinary, especially given the higher end prices. We got the Bookers burger, flavored mimosas, and chicken and waffles. Chicken and waffles was served with an awesome strawberry butter. Booker burger was served with a ghost pepper. Dining area was beautiful, especially the outdoor space and staff observed covid19 protocols!
The atmosphere is quite homely. Don’t get too dressed up. Great date night atmosphere for more mature couples. Reading is fundamental, the chicken entrée is boneless chicken tinder’s. Not enough staff but who is? The plate for one of our guest was dirty and we had to ask for a cleaner one. No one checked on us the entire night, had to get a few things comped off of our bill, and the catfish and mashed potato entree was cold. Service was mediocre and the manger didn’t even come up to talk to us about our experience. New management and service upgrade I’d think about revisiting. For now it’s a no go.
I always enjoy brunch / lunch or dinner at Booker’s! It’s a neighborhood favorite but of course customers come from everywhere! Today I enjoyed my favorites: buffalo cauliflower + fried okra + and a tiny corner of chicken and waffles! You’re never disappointed here, come to Southwest Philly and join the good times!! 💖✨🙌🏾
The food was delicious. However, I’m giving three stars because (1) the chairs were raggedy, (2) the waiter had a bad attitude, and (3) I bough a cake for $9. I took a picture to show how thin the slice is. Yes, the cake was tasty but it’s SMALL and it’s not shareable and it’s not likely that you will have leftovers. I thought they gave me a child’s size portion. When I called the restaurant I was told that size portion is small and was advised to speak to the manager and perhaps I could get a second slice for free. I opted out because that would inconvenience me as I don’t live close to the restaurant. The point is don’t buy the cakes unless you don’t mind spending $9 for a child’s size portion
This is my new brunch spot! They have a large covered outdoor dining area with heaters which was nice cause last time I went here it was in the middle of winter. Our waitress was great. We got a mimosa flight for the table that came with orange, cranberry, mango and pineapple juice. We got the brussel sprouts for the table which were yummy! I got the veggie omelette w/ home fries which was good and my friends all got the salmon burger which they loved (great sauce- the burger was failing a part a little bit but they still loved it). Service was great and food came quickly. I definitely recommend!
This was my second time experiencing Bookers for brunch. This time did not disappoint us either. I had the Strawberry Stuffed French Toast. I thought it would be overly sweet -- it was not. It was perfect for me without using the syrup. The butter was whipped, and had lost its flavor, but I personally did not need the extra calories and the selection was delicious. My hubby chose the Chicken-N-Waffle. He was surprised that the chicken was seasoned so well, so needless to say it was a hit. Everyone should give the Fried Curd a try as well. The dipping sauce had just the right amount of kick to compliment the appetizer well. Honorable mention to our server, who was very knowledgeable about the menu, and the establishment was clean and well-maintained. We will be back to experience an evening at Bookers.
I’ve been here before and had takeout so I decided to come back and have brunch indoors. We came today, Friday around 2pm. It was pretty empty (could be cause of the weather) and we were seated right away. They have mimosas that you can get by the pitcher which is very reasonable and convenient for 2 people. My friend had the chicken and shrimp with waffles, home fries, and eggs. I had the stuffed French toast with turkey bacon, grits and deviled eggs. First of all, the mimosa is lit. They also have different juices you can mix the champagne with. The chicken and waffles were good and so were the home fries. The eggs were.... eggs. Nothing magical about them lol I really like the stuffed French toast although it was a little crispier than I’d expect. I didn’t care for the deviled eggs. I felt they had too much of a mustard taste to them. The turkey bacon was cooked perfectly. They cook the grits really well. It’s creamy and flavorful and it’s really no need to add cheese to them. Taste like they make them in some type of broth. Really delicious. More like the star of their brunch. Overall the food was good. A little pricey for brunch but most places are since the start of the pandemic. Would recommend abs return.
OMG... Im going to keep it short and sweet not that it would matter to anyone other than me. This was the last straw! I will never returning here ever again.Three strikes, your out. The menu online should be updated, hot food served in a cold to go tray which leaked . should have been placed in a sealed container, over price and chicken taste burned. I need to keep supporting BLACK 🖤 OWN... JUST NOT THIS ONE 🤦 $30 for what?
Bookers is a great place to eat and enjoy the vibes. I highly recommend the blackened catfish, cornbread, greens. And for dessert, the bread pudding. Also the iced sweet tea. I think it is custom brewed and whatever they are sweetening it with, is the BOMB! A must have beverage.
I dined at this restaurant for the first time on 30Apr2022. My reservation was for 8:15 but I had to wait 20mins for a table. Once seated, my food took an entire hour to be served. I ordered the lamb shank and my meal was ice cold upon arrival. I will never dine here again. I gave two stars because my rice was pretty tasty. I think the lamb shank was pre-cooked and reheated. It’s no way that huge piece of meat was that cold if it had just been cooked. I honestly could have prepared my own meal with the time I waited and at least my meal would have been hot.
This place was absolutely worth the drive! The strawberry salad, seafood mac n cheese, Thai wings, lamb shank, carrot cake and vodka lemonade were ALL devine! The environment was very relaxed and laid back. I will most definitely return! Thank you Bookers for feeding this Jersey girl! 💕💕💕 Our server Isaiah was the best!Excellent food and service!
I would stick to their lunch/dinner menu. Brunch menu is too expensive. I was charged $16 for a stack of pancakes because as listed on the menu “two short stacked pain cakes” were $8. They brought out two orders of the two short stack- they need to change the name on the menu because it’s deceiving to waiters and customers. Moreover items that are typically included in a brunch platter; eggs, sausage, and bacon are indivually sold and can run a pretty penny. $7 for bacon 😫.There are a ton of options for decently priced brunch in the city, I would stick to dinner here
I was so wrong! When my little cousin suggested Bookers for dinner last night. I did NOT want to go! Despite it being Black owned with great reviews, its on Baltimore Ave! I grew up on Baltimore Ave Im not going to a restaurant they just plopped in the middle of the block! And Im not sitting outside on the sidewalk! Well sir I was so very WRONG! Great service, food and ambiance! At one point, I completely forgot where I was! Dont sleep on Bookers yall! 💯
I really dont want to leave a negative review because I ordered take out and did not dine in. Typically (for me anyway) my meal is never as good when I dine in compared to take out. With that said, I will definitely plan to dine in to get another perspective of the food. First and foremost, the staff was excellent. Very friendly, knowlegeable and professional. I ordered the fried fish sliders, brussel sprouts, gumbo and carrot cake. The gumbo was awesome! I had to add a little spice, because I like things spicy, but would have enjoyed it either way. Now Im a sliders girl and most of a sliders fillings should conveniently fit the bun. The fish portions were a lot larger than the bun so you have to cut them to fit the bread. Probably no biggie for most people. The brussel sprouts did not agree with my palate at all but my boyfriend liked them after adding a little salt. I didnt have a chance to eat the carrot cake but it looked good. So not a total loss but as I said, will definitely return to dine in.
By far the best French toast I have ever had in my life!!!I took my mom and sister here for breakfast this morning and omg we were all blown away. I’m a 5 star restaurant kinda girl and let me tell you... this place is a MUST go when in Philadelphia... there is no way you can select anything bad off the menu we tried the fish... out of this world! My aunt makes a killer fish fry and this was like from soul heaven! No lies you must stop here. Ask to sit with Gerald he was a doll and super sweet. We are making reservations for dinner as we speak. Go here period.
The ambience of this place was nice, really cozy. Sadly the dining experience just wasn’t it for me. My drink was very watered down, food wasn’t flavorful, didn’t see any seasoning but it may have been there. Overall don’t see myself returning, had high hopes for this place too.
Been here twice for Bunch, service is slow. claim to have vegan options, but they only have half n half for coffee, my man ordered the beef sausage & shrimp w grits asked that his eggs be scrambled came out with 4 shrimp never got his eggs because he didnt want peppers and onions they just didnt give him the sausage, he wanted a side order of the blackened fish, but thats only a dinner option, but its on the menu, oh and my order took forever and wasnt what I wanted. SMH, wont be back.
Its a very nice atmosphere. Once you walk into the restaurant, the ambience is inviting and warm. You are served fresh made sweet potato chips with sour cream and chives instead of a bowl of bread. The cornbread was delicious. Its served with strawberry butter. The salad was tasty too. The dressing was magnificent.I wasnt a fan of my entrée. I had the white fish. It tasted a bit mushy. The server took it back and another piece of fish was prepared. The taste was better but I still wasnt a fan of the fish.My date loved it and took the food home with him. LolIll try the place again. Im sure it will be much more pleasing once I try another dish.Give it a try. You will be transformed from 50th and Baltimore to an intimate cultural and peaceful vibe.Oh, and 20% gratuity is automatically added to your check if the table spends more than $100.
My experience was amazing form beginning to the end . They made my birthday so special . My waitress Sunday was attentive and sweet and the hostess Pam was professional, and made sure we were okay as well . Would definitely return . These ladies deserve a raise . Thank you Sunday and Pam .
Been wanting to try this place for a while now, so chose to go here for brunch with a friend for my birthday. Walking up, already lived the vibe - outdoor eating area has a very spring/summer garden ambiance with the decor used. We ended up sitting inside though since it was a bit warmer that day. Staff from the door to our table and those cleaning off other tables were really friendly, engaging and attentive throughout our entire time there. We both ordered the Chicken & Shrimp and Waffles platter along with the Mimosa special. It was soooo good - tasty, filling, I liked the strawberry butter they gave for the waffles. It took us a while to finish the food because it was a good amount on the plate lol. And the waitress that was waiting on us was super nice, cool and helpful - she even let us sample a drink at were trying to decide on.Glad that I finally made it to this restaurant and the experience turned out like I hoped it would. Will definitely be back here for more brunches, happy hour and dinner. Go support this black-owned business!
My husband and I went to Bookers for Brunch on a Friday. The weather was nice so we could sit outdoors. The atmosphere is Amazing. Very inviting. Inside is beautiful as well. They also have sliding window doors so those who sat inside still enjoyed the beautiful outside breeze. We shared the bread pudding. It was excellent!! Try it!! The chicken and waffles with shrimp was delicious!! The shrimp and grits with egg was okay. I would try the one with the andouille sausage next time. This is a place for couples or a date, or mother daughter outing, or business lunch, or girls night out. Basically everyone can enjoy it! Servers were great as well. Bonus for me anyway...its also bla k-owned!! We plan to go back again. Check them out for sure.
My daughters took me Bookers for Mother’s Day, I ordered the Thai wings for a appetizer which I had to send back because they weren’t fully cooked. I ordered the seafood Mac cheese( lobster, shrimp and crab) when they bought it to the table it only had two pieces of shrimp only. I sent it back, it took a hour and 45 minutes for our dinner to come. My daughters were so upset that I had to return my dinner. I will never go back.
The food was okay, and the service could’ve been better. The layout of the tables are bad, the staff doesn’t have enough room to reach everyone. Our waitress kept reaching over me and my grandma. She eventually spilled sauce all over us. They also seemed short staffed, the waitress took quite some time taking our orders. The chicken gumbo soup was spicy and well seasoned, however the salmon not so much.
WOW. Camr on a recommendation and im glad we did. First of all, its BEAUTIFUL. LARGE, gorgeous flower arguments everywhere. The drinks are so visually pleasing! (Watermelon Margaritas!) And the food.... there are no words. My friend and I had two of their dinner entrees and theyre next level! Dont sleep on this place!
Extremely dissatisfied with the food. I had the Devil eggs very subpar. I had the beef sausage shrimp and grits with cheese. The cheese was not melted. My food came out cold. I sent it back to be heated and it was sent back but with no cheese. And shockingly the food was still cold like out of the refrigerator. So basically serve cold food assuming or yesterdays. Either way completely disgusted and sent it back. I decided that I wanted nothing else and basically waiting for the check so I can eat elsewhere. Again severely disappointed. FYI manager did come to my table and apologized for the service and stated it will be removed from the bill. But doesn’t fix how I would ever return.
Went to bookers last night it was me my son and two other adults. When I say the food was not very good and when we got the bill we ended up paying $20 for alcohol tax which I never heard of that and not to mention you had to give $30 for gratuity never heard of that either. When you tip at a restaurant you give what you want to tip the service to me suck. My opinion the price for the food is not worth it.I will never come back to this restaurant again I was very disappointed and when the bill came it was $200 for food that was not worth it.
This was the worst of the worst I paid sucha high bill for trashy food I dont know how they call this a black owned restaurant without knowing how to cook collard green. I Tried to support a blacked owned business but the food is ridiculous nasty I could cook 10 times better than the food they served. FIRE YOUR CHEFS TODAY!!!
Beautiful outdoor seating, delicious food and a great way to spend a b day with friends! The place was PACKED and our orders were complicated (food issues) so there were some mix ups but we got everything in the end and the wait staff was very apologetic and accommodating.
Time stamp 3:19 pm on July 1st 2022. Walked in the restaurant and wasnt greeted. The hostes was standing in the front having an extended concersation with a customer. The customer looks to me and asks if i needed help. The hostess then states no he dosnt need help and continuedthe conversation. I wasnt aware that she was the hostess until the conversation ended 5 minutes later and she walked away and still said nothing to me. I went and sat at the bar and waited an additional 5 minutes and still no one spoke to me. What a rude establishment.
This place was awesome! Coco our host was super friendly and polite made sure that we had everything we needed. The food was delicious from the apps the Thai wings and the hot chicken sliders. The drinks on the beam. If you want a great vibe with food and music this is the place.
I love this place!!! I’ve been doing happy hours all over the city since the weather finally broke and this is definitely one of my favorites!!! First the city-wide special can’t be beat! It’s a pint of draft beer, a shot of whiskey and fried pickles all for $6. Such a great deal! The pickles were delicious and I tried the new Hell or High Watermelon wheat ale draft and loved it. I also tried the sangria which tasted like juice (not sure if it was made really well to mask the taste of the alcohol or barely had any in it to begin with) and the house Pinot which I loved. For food we had the deviled eggs, buffalo cauliflower, meatball parm, and calamari. The calamari was not even warm, undercooked, and under-seasoned. Two other parties also at the bar didn’t like it either. One couple ate it anyway. The lady next to me sent hers back with mine. They both came back hot but still tasteless and too rubbery. We just asked for it to be removed altogether. The rest of the food more than made up for it though. The meatballs were incredibly flavorful, hot and served in a bed a sauce and gooey cheese with garlic toast. They were incredible! The buffalo cauliflower was even better! It was lightly flash fried and coated in buffalo sauce served with blue cheese dressing. The texture and flavors combined perfectly to create an amazing dish. We really wanted to order another one but were too full to do so. The bartender was very friendly and helpful although not as attentive as she could have been. I will definitely be back to support this BOB.
This is not what I ordered. This is maybe the 3rd or 4th problem I’ve had with an order. I Called to place an order over the phone and told me what came with the short ribs...Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. As you can see from the picture, it is swimming in a pool of grease...YUCK! The restaurant did not allow an exchange because I had already left. I don’t think I should have been treated any differently even if I wasn’t sitting at the restaurant. I accepted the answer and won’t be returning. The customer service is awful and this place is overrated. Go to South Jazz Kitchen if you want good food!!! NEVER again will I eat this greasy, overpriced, low quality and poorly executed food.
I always drive by Bookers and have wanted to try it out. This morning I went with a few business partners and can I say it was the best choice to come here! The staff was very friendly and the food was Ahhhh-mazing! I loved that you get a complimentary mimosa when you order from the brunch menu. The atmosphere was awesome as well and in an up and coming part of the city. I will definitely return as there is other things on the menu I would love to taste. 😍
I had the special today of tempura battered soft shell crab. It was delicious. I wanted to save some but ended up eating it up. My son enjoyed their Mac and cheese and the Shrimp and grits my sister ordered were also very good. The deviled eggs weren’t my favorite and you only get four for $6. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area and searching for tasty soul food.
Its an amazing restaurant from start to finish. The food, the staff, the atmosphere are all perfect. I have tried half the menu and cant wait to try the rest. Its highly recommended. The sweet potato crusted salmon and the chicken and waffles are my favorites, but everything Ive had on the menu has been fantastic.
Omg absolutely amazing. Our waitress RJ was a dream. I took my dad here for his birthday and couldnt be any happier. Please go if youre on the fence reading reviews. Go. Brunch was Devine. We got the crab cake Benedict, steak and eggs, and chicken and waffles. Oh and the owner Saba was a delight she came and checked on us herself
The brunch here was fantastic! The decor at this venue is calming and open with good lighting. The music is at the right level - you can still hear the tunes but it’s not overwhelming. The service is pretty good although the main course came at the same time as appetizers. The food was everything you want in a brunch and perfectly portioned. Can’t wait to visit this Black Owned spot again!
Went in for Sunday Brunch with my God daughter ....The atmosphere is easy and very smooth flowing. The crowd is intergrated and super friendly. The food, which we had fish and grits was delicious along with the Mango Mimosas! Doesnt hurt one bit Loving the owner Saba of this establishment ❤
We loved the ambiance and the drinks were fantastic. The seafood mac and cheese was amazingly delish. The crab cake sliders were really good. Our waiter, Ryan, was awesome. We just were bummed they ran out of the crispy duck rolls but will definitely return just to try those and hopefully can revise my rating to a 5 by that time.
This was my first visit and an educational event triggered the visit. I figure I would make things easier on myself and get dinner while I was at the event. I ordered the calamari and the buffalo cauliflower. The calamari was cooked perfectly. The breading was light and crisp. The cauliflower was so-so. I think I am partial to a thicker, dryer buffalo coating . Bookers version was a saucier dish. I would recommend the calamari but would not order the buffalo cauliflower again. The service was good and I always appreciate the iPad payments. I will definitely return to experience more of the menu.
Been passing by for awhile...and used my parents 36th wedding anniversary as the reason to dine at Bookers. Nice andclean space....very cozy...choice of inside or oitside seating. The food was great...service was also. I will be back soon...this is a nice place to go on a lil date.
I came here for happy hour with a few coworkers last night for the first time, and I cant wait to come back! The outdoor space is just lovely. It is also covered and heated when it became cold. The servers were kind. They gave us great recommendations and didnt rush us. We ordered mostly happy hour food and drinks. Food was tastey and beverage list was solid. Additionally, covid precautions (mask wearing indoors, contact tracing, tables limited to 4-6 people, all staff were wearing masks) were taken very seriously, and I felt very safe. Thanks for having us Bookers!
Food was awsome!! Wonderful chef cocept.brunch menue was so good..had deviled eggs app the Creole aioli and shrimp was topped with micro greens..wow..new Orleans style omelette stuffed with sausage and crab...omg dont forget the shrimp sauce!!! Other people had shrimp and grits..it will suprise you how good they are..i had the coconut cream pie..wow..the up side down pineapple cake...your gonna ask for seconds!!! Great experiences..great food...go and eat there
The one is a food review alone. It was a great vibe. The services was on point very attentive staff definitely left a great tip. The food on the other hand was not good. Everything needed seasoning and it came out quick but cold which leaves me to wonder if it was even made to order.I would return for the atmosphere alone and the drinks were okay.
Service was poor. Had a young lady who was training someone and was not personable at all. It was my first time there during happy hour and she didn’t come over to say it was ending because she was never to be found. The wait time for her was terrible on all levels. When the food arrived it was table warm. Not what I’ve expected and neither would the owner if he or she went to a restaurant and was not provided with awesome service. Servers are the first line of contact and they can make or break customers. Need charming, personable, experienced servers, who can recommend drink pairings with food.
I heard the food is hit or miss...It was a Total Miss for my friend and I. The portions and prices sis NOT add up. We spent over $58 for short a short ribs platter, a sad slice of Tiramisu cake, and 6 shrimp with a side salad. Just sad. The food was not flavored to our liking so we didnt seem to throw away so much since it wasnt much from the beginning. I wish I had taken pix. Smh
Short light skinned women with a blonde wig was not very welcoming to my Boyfriend and I on 2/13 Super bowl Sunday. She approached us by saying Are yall dining in? followed by bum-rushing us into the restaurant. Sheesh! We know its a Big game going on but she could of been much more respectful. Its Really Not. That. Serious! We felt rushed and unwelcomed from the jump! Also be careful when ordering a side of (seafood) Mac & cheese because they will give it to you in mini cast -iron skillet that is lined with foil paper which you could easily swallow pieces of foil along with your food. NOT SMART!
Server was really nice and attentive. The drinks were okay a bit watered down.I don’t know if it was because it was happy hour but still good. Appetizers were excellent we tried the Thai wings, mozerella balls and mussels. I first got the oxtails which was extremely spicy. The salon meal was good as well. The fried chicken was definitely overcooked. For dessert we tried the carrot cake which was okay but overpriced. I also tried the lamb with rice it was okay. Overall I wouldn’t mine giving it a second chance but the owner need to do some improvements. It’s a bit pricey for what you get. The chips and cream cheese not good.
The cuisine was absolutely phenomenal... I ordered the blackened salmon w/greens and garlic mashed potatoes. The salmon was seasoned to perfection...the greens omgeezie was tender and melted in your mouth.. the garlic mashed potatoes were okay.... there was only a slight garlic flavor and werent really warm. The cornbread was delicious... im a purist so i didnt care for the strawberry butter. The drinks and the appetizers... Brussel sprouts, deviled eggs and those Thai wings ... omgeezie.. on point!! The waitstaff was highly professional until the hostess very curtly escorted me out.. have no idea what that was about.Cant believe I didnt take one picture of our food!!
Nice environment, good food, professional service and affordable. Some people may be discouraged by the area this business is located in. We found this to be a great experience and opportunity to support a black owned business. We went for brunch and really enjoyed the mimosas and unique selections. The service was very prompt and friendly. We sat outside and even though it started to rain, they designed the covering to properly drain the water so we didnt get wet. I would recommend to anyone else that is in the area and looking for a new place to try.
It is a nice cozy place for drinks the food , not so much. We had 5 people in our party. Drinks were excellent however I am being generous by giving them 3 stars. No one enjoyed their meal. For the area the prices are TOO high and quality was not good. The jerk oxtails were horrible. Not seasoned just drenched withers sauce. Myself and another person had the seafood mac and cheese and again horrible. The dish actually smelled fishy and the 3 shrimp that you get with it were under cooked no seafood to be found in this dish and we both were in the bathroom that night from that dish. The fried chicken and mash potatoes were average at best and absolutely not worth the price. Tje potatoes were bland bland! The only person that enjoyed their meal was our vegan friend as the restaurant does have vegan options. For 4 people our bill was $250 which isnt bad but in this scenario definitely Not Worth It.
Absolutely AH-mazing! We were seated right away (although we came prior to our reservation time). We came from Baltimore MD to Brunch for a birthday celebration. The service was phenomenal. Our waitress (Bobbi) was very friendly & personable. She knew the menu well and guided us in the right direction for what we wanted. The food came out piping hot! (The way I like it) and everything taste SO GOOD! We even spoke with the Chef to thank him for the great tasting flavorful food. We are definitely coming back to Philly just for this brunch. HIGHLY recommended!!!
This is a great neighborhood spot. Its still fairly new and a cozy hangout spot. Happy hour is from 4-7pm with some awesome deals (hint : City side specials). The happy hour deals usually consist of 2 pieces for sliders, meatballs, and risotto. The portion sizes for other options are more on the smaller end, and meant for one person. This place is great for a date and a big group as well.
Booker’s is an amazing experience. Full of life, and delicious fine dining twists on your classic southern soul food dishes. Everything that we tasted hit our tongue with a freshness. Not only is this place Black-Owned but they are located in a neighborhood that is accessible to their target audiences, and provided my family and I with top notch customer service! My only feedback would be for updated tables and more dessert options!
I Was really surprised!!! And I want to give their business 5 stars but I have to be honest and I hope they will consider the review… The restaurant was very very noisy until I had to have a yelling conversation with my wife. The food was well plated but it lacked flavor. The Mac and Cheese was extremely disappointing because it was not baked and the noodles sprinkled with cheese sauce..The noodles tasted like fish with out flavor. The crab meat and shrimp not even sautéed at all. Just pink shrimp on top that looked like it was boiled. The desert I thought would be a recovery but it was also not what we expected… We never saw the waiter until we looked for him to get the check. Besides the noises of dishes clashing and the loud music all I wanted was silence and peace..
The food was good but the service was awful. We sat down at 2pm and waited over 15 minutes just to be greeted and given a glass of water. We finally ordered around 2:30pm. Around the 2:50 mark our appetizer finally arrived. We asked our waitress what was going on, and why was there such a long wait. Our waiter was very kind, but the wait times were outrageous! He kindly explained that the kitchen was backed up, but it would have been nice to know this when we put our order in. Two people at our table ordered drinks. The waiter (not our original waiter) delivered the drinks but on the wrong side of the table. He proceeded to reach over me to give the other guests their drinks. Some simple table etiquette goes a long way. I’m extremely disappointed with this visit.
Waited 30 minutes to have our drink order taken. Waitress had to be flagged down to ordee our food. Potatoes were dry ask for gravy was told they didnt have any. Waitress never came back so we could order a second drink. Had to flag her down to get the bill. Our credit card was on the table she comes over picks it up and swipes it. Without giving us the check !!!! I should of listen to the other reviewers.
I have nothing bad to say about this place! It was such a breath of fresh air from the traditional chain restaurants! The decorative details this place offers is aesthetically pleasing. Also, there is lots of free parking. Now on to the food! 10/10 today was my first time here with a girlfriend and everything we ordered was on point. For drinks we had the house specials which was some blue drink that definitely got the job done! For appetizers We had the Thai wings as well as the deviled eggs Both of which exceeded our expectations! For our main course I had the salmon burger with fries. My friend ordered the seafood Mac and shrimp basket. For dessert we topped it off with chocolate cake for my friend and the carrot cake for me. Both were moist , sweet , and delicious! Everything was immaculate! Everyone was friendly it was overall such a great vibe and I can’t wait to come back again!
This is a nice warming place to go to during dare nights, family brunch, and beautiful nights. The manger seemed wonderful and nice allowing me to hear the music that had on turned up. Tbh I would honestly work here its so fancy but black and rich of character like employees. Yall should really come!
I always worry when restaurants give such large helpings and I was correct to be concerned. The mash was average the greens too salty, the fish sliders was a little dry and the deviled eggs were too sweet but the blackened catfish was good in a different way, The server Michael was great!!
Fist time here 4 my daughters bday brunch. Its a nice cute place the food was good just not organized. Food came out all over the place hubs had 2 wait for toast when all the food was out momastasted like just oj oh and they served tap water NO Thank u. Waitress was nice I might need 2 go there 4 dinner and see how service is. Now the bathroom was another story the sick was disgusting it was backed up with standing water and the toilet dis not flush no toilet paper had 2 use the papwrtowels. So thats the reason 4 my rating.
Came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and boy, are they packed! We didnt have to wait long for a table but the wait for the food was a lengthy one. Do not come here if you are absolutely famished and you have no patience. They were quick with the coffee refills though so, that was appreciated. When the food did arrive, it was delicious and plentiful. My daughter got the blueberry pancakes special of the day ($12) and I got the Huevos Rancheros ($12) She got 3 plate size pancakes for her order. It was definitely enough to share with me and my boyfriend while still eating enough to be full. My huevos rancheros came with crispy potatoes and roasted jalapenos that were fire roasted till falling apart, spicy and so good! There was a problem with the point of sale system when it was time to get our bill and they were nice enough to give us a 20% discount because we waited so long for the food to arrive and for the bill to get sorted. We didnt even complain once and they still gave us the discount just because they felt bad about the inconvenience all the delays caused. All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the University city/west Philadelphia area. Just be prepared to wait! (trust me, the wait is worth it if you want delicious food for a good price!)
Drinks GREAT!Reds services GREAT!Atmosphere GREAT!Host confused as if she didnt know what was going on.Food TERRIBLE, NO FLAVOR AT ALL! Potatoes werent cooked at all just brown.Owner was there n didnt even speak, must owners will stop by and at least speak but its ok cause overall I DEFINITELY WILL NOT be back!
The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was perfect but other than that it started off with room temperature water. We got the wings which were ok but after that everything else was nasty. Velveeta mac and cheese with seafood was yuck. Greens were salty. Oxtail were mostly bones. It was just bad. Dont waste your money
I got the Hot Chicken Sliders and Hand Cut Fries it was the best I ever had I curious about this restaurant when I saw it on door dash. I had to move with caution because some places on there be nasty sometimes but they didn’t disappoint. And I write reviews but this place deserves it. So I want to say thank you it was great.Formerly,Food addictive
I was so disappointed with my visit today. First our drinks did not come out until after our food. We were told that our ticket for our drinks were lost. Than the wrong salad came out, about time we saw a server again, we had eaten the salad,we were hungry and tired of waiting. . Once a server finally came to check on us and we informed them we had the wrong salad, the server said the kitchen put the order in incorrectly. Long story short the bill came and we were charge full price for everything.. We complained and they said since we had eaten the salad, which was a cheaper price than the one we originally ordered and got charge for , they could not comp us. They did comp us for the drinks, which shouldhave be done in the first place. As you can imagine Im done with this place. In the pass the food and service was good. Not to mention we paterong this establishment at least serval time a month. But no more!
The food that I tasted was very good (five star food) three star service I never got my actual food. The waiter recommended a dish to me then told me he never heard me order it when the other guess food came out he stated mine was coming back up after about 15 minutes I asked about my food and he told me the kitchen was definitely closed and he would see if they could scrape something together which I declined
I want to like this place, I really do. I want to support neighborhood businesses, especially black owned ones. We stopped in for brunch after the Baltimore Ave Dollar Stroll. I got the breakfast burrito. I thought it would be a safe bet. One component overpowered and ruined the dish. The avocado crema tasted nothing like avocado or crema. It was seriously nasty. I was afraid I might get food poisoning. On another visit, my dinner was cold. I dont know if my meal was ready well before my wifes, or if they cook some things in advance and reheat them. For this kind of money, food should be cooked to order.
Food was pretty good. Went twice. Once for brunch and once for dinner. The ambiance was nice. I sat outside each time. Didnt like my short ribs that much it needed some seasoning and apparently depending on who is working they will take your photo and post it without asking permission which I didnt like. Brunch food was pretty good and the service was great.
Took family (of 4) for brunch and was mildly disappointed. Food was nothing to rave about (shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles, steak & eggs, fish & grits) but service was good. Outdoor space was nice. One last thing that took us by surprised was the automatic 20% gratuity added for bills exceeding $100 … which is very strange and not disclosed.
I was really disappointed. I ordered the steak and there was absolutely no flavor. NONE! My wife and nephew had the exact same complaint about their food. Not even the mashed potatoes had flavor.Im really upset because before I ordered the steak I asked the waitress if they had steak sauce and she said, Yes! After my food came I requested steak sauce and they brought out a dark liquid which resembled sauce, but was clearly water. 😡The ambiance is nice, but the food is a no go.
We were there during happy hour but dine in customers were not given happy hour prices, service was fair.Waiter reached across table several times w/o excusing himself, tip was on bill he then asked if we wanted to give additional tip. Limited entree s ,bread additional, we were never asked if we wanted refills on our ice teas which were $6 each
I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich’s as appetizers and a burger and fries for my main course. I also ordered 3 margaritas and a Long Island ice tea. The spicy chicken sandwich were okay I’m a white meat person and the thighs they used were fatty the taste was okay. The burger was basic they don’t add lettuce’s or ketchup or tomato’s. Just meat and cooked onions. The bun was was good. The fries that came with the burger were like scraps. They were oily and small. Now not only did the drinks come out so late but they were so watered down just nasty. The Long Island was okay definitely tasted like soda. I was disappointed with my meal. The staff were nice but it didn’t really help the bad experience I had with my food. I’m not saying don’t go I’m just detailing my experience.
Randomly selected Bookers due to its proximity to Bartram’s Garden and felt pretty lucky with our lunch place choice. We were able to secure a parking spot a few doors down the street. We were quickly seated out front, upon arrival, and served cool water on this hot humid day. Service by all who attended to us was warm and friendly and excellent. Our bill indicated Stephanie was our main server. We started by sharing Wisconsin fried cheese curds served with a spicy red sauce. The ap was delicious and two of us knew it was best not to finish as we anticipated our entrees. It was that plentiful. My companion ordered the waffles and fried chicken that came with syrup and a strawberry cream. She was very happy. I ordered the Brussel sprout dish and was delighted. We couldn’t finish the entrees either. I did go inside to use the rest room and the place was nice and cool and looked pretty comfortable, with table and bar seating. Prices were reasonable. No fault of the establishment that street traffic and noise made pauses in conversation necessary but it is the reason that the 5th star is omitted. Finally, a sign on the window indicated the establishment was “Black Owned” and my companion and I were pleased to be able to support that.
We had our wedding dinner here March 2020. We had a section of the restaurant to ourselves. The food was amazing and so was the service. There were about 12 in our party and everyone enjoyed everything. Not one complaint. We enjoyed the music too. It’s almost our anniversary; we have to stop in again soon.
From the ambiance to the Drinks and then the food...This place is amazing! You cant go wrong with anything on the Brunch Menu and if you are there for dinner please try the Seafood Mac , The Deviled eggs, The lb Shank, the Short Ribs, the Strawberry butter for the cornbread or the Blackened Catfish! You will not be disappointed. Its a little more expensive than most but DEFINITELY worth the price!
Bookers was an absolutely fun and delicious place to spend a well needed sister date out. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food was delicious and very pleasing to the eye. The kitchen lead even came out to make sure we were happy. The atmosphere and drinks were on point!
My friend and i were a little iffy about this place but it was AMAZING. the location gets questionable towards the night but otherwise our experience was great. our waitress, Erica, was one of the nicest people we’ve ever met. The food was so delicious and the scenery is gorgeous.
First and last time ordering from here. I ordered off door dash, I received my food which was fish sliders and their was no lemon aioli on it. They slapped my fish on slider buns with nothing on it. The fish was grainy and had no flavor. I couldn’t eat it. The shrimp and grits with sausage was horrible! No seasoning and a egg that I didn’t ask for came on it which ruined everything because it was runny. I called the restaurant, the lady put me on the phone with a manager, but then the manager put me on hold for 10 minutes and never got on the line. As a chef and business owner I am so disappointed!! I feel like when you order through a delivery service some restaurants just do not care how they make people’s food. And this is 1 of them.
Booker’s is a MUST visit restaurant in West Philly. We were seated immediately despite arriving 15 minutes early. The atmosphere was super cute, chill yet classy and chic. Our server, Bobbi, was a gem! She came to our table with water within 3 minutes of us sitting down. I asked for sparkling water and she gladly brought me a bottle of San Pellegrino. She was very attentive to our needs and always made sure we had everything we needed, promptly. The menu items were delicious!!! The food flavors were bold and robust. The mimosas were amazing, too! The food was perfectly seasoned and steaming HOT! Our party of four loved every dish, and no one was disappointed! Chef Jeremy came to our table and was super sweet, pleasant, and humbled by us telling him about how amazing his food was prepared. We appreciate him taking time to stop by our table! Much gratitude! Booker’s was well worth the drive from Baltimore to Philadelphia! We will be back!!!
Due to COVID, they offered both limited indoor and outdoor seating and I was so very happy to be seated indoors. Outdoor seating is fine for me when the temperature is at least 70 degrees as I get chilly fast.I scanned the QR code to pull up the menu and it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to order thanks to all the delicious looking food that others were ordering. I ended up ordering the chicken with waffles and fried shrimp. The portion was very filling. The dish included 4 large fried shrimp, 4 triangles of a Belgian thick waffle, and 2 medium sized fried chicken breasts with some syrup. I did request some whipped butter but the only had strawberry with chunks of butter in it. I loved the taste of the strawberry on the waffle mixed with the syrup but it would have been better if the chunks werent hard. It taste delicious nonetheless. The shrimp in my opinion were perfectly seasoned and the right temperature as well as the chicken. Our server Mike was nice and attentive. When our beverages were empty he appeared with two fresh glasses which put smiles on our face. What prevents me from giving this visit a 5 star review is the time it took for our food to come out (approximately 20 minutes) and the temperature of the food. My food was warm but I would have preferred hot with steam coming from it.I will return and try dinner.
Our waiter was not courteous and over looked our needs several times. Our food didnt come out in a timely manner & we werent informed of new prices on menu. The server gave us an old menu and didnt informed us that there was an price increase. We were charged a 20% gratuity for a setting of 3 ppl. When question we were told that any table over $100.00 is charge. Even though we shared different tickets. The food was over priced & the quality wasnt that great!!The manager offered an apology and said she would speak with the server. No discount & just a Im sorry. I personally felt like if anything she could have given us a discount because we were mis- informed of the prices on menu.To many mistakes/ flaws.😌My 1st & last visit.
The location and ambiance of this place was great. I had a specialty drink that was great and the kids had fresh strawberry lemonade which they loved! I ordered the vegan jumbalaya which was very watery, yellow rice, black beans and sauteed onions and peppers. I was very disappointed. I didn’t find it appetizing at all. The mussels were ok and the kids seemed to enjoy their plates. The waitress was great! Although when she brought the check back she had already added 20% gratuity when she ran my card which I thought was strange. I’ve never had gratuity added by wait staff before. I honestly was going to tip her more than that in cash. It made me wonder if they do that to everyone’s bill or did she think I wouldn’t tip ..
Ambience nice, customer service great, food kind of trash.I was trying the shrimp and grits for the first time and the waffles. First time here at Bookers and the shrimp, grits and egg platter just looked dry. No seasoning, not even ketchup or salt and pepper in the bag. The waffle was too thick for me. The shrimp. Dry, grits turned dry just on my way home to eat it. I didn’t finish it. It was really expensive for some food that wasn’t great. Would love a refund. Customer service really great though.

2022-05-07My boyfriend and I made this bar and grill our first stop for food and drinks while out of town. When we arrived I found parking on the street nearby. We walked in and was greeted by some very nice hosts. We were told we can sit at a high top. Bill was our server and bartender and he was super nice and attentive. I started with the $5 merlot and it was tasty and I followed with the margarita which was ok. My boyfriend liked his strawberry margarita. We now were ready to eat and I ordered the salmon sliders and fries and my boyfriend ordered fish and chips. I didnt particularly care for the salmon sliders so I returned it and just ate the fries. The manager Katie came over and was so nice and asked what happened with the sliders and she understood I didnt like it. My boyfriend liked his food. I will say the ambiance and the customer service were so great. I would definitely come back and try a different meal. The music also was good I will say as well.

2022-06-21Been here three times now and I always enjoy it. The food service is a bit slower since they’re always busy, but the drinks are really good so you have that to enjoy while you wait. My food was yummy as usual. Would love if they offered traditional menus in addition to the QR codes, just a suggestion though!

2021-12-02First time here and I’m hooked. The ambiance and vibes were on point. We made it in time for happy hour. Ordered two deviled eggs apps, fried okra, salmon sliders, hot chicken sliders, side of greens and truffle fries😅 Cosmos and Whiskey. Server was sweet and the host was great. Drinks were excellent along with flavorful and soulful food. Oh and free street parking!

2022-05-27It was pretty good, nice atmosphere, but I probably wouldn’t go again for breakfast/brunch. The strawberry cheesecake french toast wasn’t what I expected and the deviled eggs and grits weren’t on the sweeter side like I would’ve liked. The shrimp also had tails which I don’t care to eat.

2022-05-16I used to pass this place often and always wanted to try it. So I suggested this place for a birthday celebration. The food was not flavorful. The short ribs was a pot roast- not worth $28. The person, who was being celebrated, wrote a note on the receipt and our waitress and host were laughing at it. Its cool to take your service as a joke because we will not return. Just truly disappointed. We will find another place to make it up to her. Feel so bad.

2022-02-13The outdoor dining setup was beautiful. It was heated well, plenty of heated lamps. Food took a lil while to come out but it was so good. I had salmon sliders and Thai wings.

2022-04-02Ate breakfast today at Bookers. The cheesecake french toast was okay. It couldve been warmer. The strawberry compote maple syrup was definitely sweet! The portion was actually large enough to share.
