Local bookstore. Huge selection of new & used books, comics, and gaming. If you cant find it, ask the staff. I have yet to see them stumped. Plus, its definitely a unique atmosphere. Do you like the smell of old books and wood? Enjoy the nice creak of an old wood floor? This is your place.
Books Galore is a great place to find gaming items. I am not a gamer, but the person who helped me was informative and knowledgeable on Dungeons and Dragons, the current edition, past editions, and the various items. The initial employee I encountered explained where various genres of books were. They took.time to help every customer who came in.
The have a phenomenal selection of games, both card and table top! Theyre my go-to place when Im looking for a new game, new D&D campaigns, and even magic the gathering supplies. If not for the massive comic book and novel selection, check this place out for their game selection!
Great little place. Books new and old, comics, games, knickknacks. All at a decent price. Usually you find little stores like this mark products up quite a bit, where as here its the same price as shopping online. Fantastic. People who work here are great, knowledgeable about pretty much all in the store and dont be afraid to ask questions. If they dont have something theyll gladly order it for you too. Love coming here.
The gentlemen behind the counter was very knowledgeable about both Marvel and DC comics, and he engaged with and let my 8 year old look at 30 or more action figures before he finally decided which one he wanted. They were all very friendly and it feels good spending money at a local business.
Rude employees that don’t want you to shop there! I came to shop here with my toddler, not only is the store and employee not accommodating for a child in a stroller they were reluctant to even help and would rather lose business than to help me , the only customer in the store!
I love this place. Books Galore is a 3 or 4 bedroom house stuffed floor to ceiling with books, graphic novels/comic books, and even some games and gaming tools. No matter where you turn there are books of some kind on the ground floor and upstairs, in every room, on every wall and on floor to ceiling shelving through out the center of each room. Its an amazing world of its own that any book lover would adore! The giant Spiderman beside the building makes it easy to spot, too!
Even if options werent limited in the area, this would be my choice for new and especially used books. Tons of new and older comics as well, tabletop gaming accessories, collectibles, its just a wonderful place to be a nerd. The staff is super friendly and will go out of their way to find what you are looking for. Great place to get into an argument with a stranger about who would win a fight between Batman and Superman.
Great locally owned bookstore. They have 3+ levels of all different genres of new and used books (primarily used) and masses of comics. Im a mom of 3 boys and I know next to nothing about comics. The staff there are incredibly knowledgeable and help my boys find whatever they need. And they make suggestions and guide me when I hav e no idea what to get them. Only downfall is its a tight fit. Makes it hard to move around when bringing my 1-year-old that I have to carry. Highly recommend.
I always loved coming to this place growing up, and they still have yet to disappoint. Whether youre a gamer, book lover, or comic book enthusiast, they have it all. New and vintage books and comics (vintage books often dating back to the early 1900s, special edition and vintage comics such as 1960s Spider-Man can be found behind the counter for safe keeping), tabletop games and tons of cool dice, and even your favorite family board games like Apples to Apples or any liscensed version of monopoly you can think of (Think Avengers themed Monopoly). If youre looking for anything truly unique (or maybe a little weird), this is the place. A must visit if youre passing through Erie, a staple if youre a native! They can even order something specific for you if you have a particular item in mind. If you plan on stopping by a lot be sure to ask about their Books Galore club for discounts and members-only sales, itll be worth it!
What an interesting store. Its an old house. There are books here that are copy written 1929. Theyre also books that are more modern prices for great the people were helpful. Bathrooms at the old fishing. During which is reminiscent of the house. Comic books games but mostly books books books to floors of books.he saw three signs on the south side of the brick building as we were going north and decided we have to stop there. One of the people with me spend $160 on books. All of the people with me came out with boxes of books.
Great store! Large book/comic collection with a ton of used books. The used book prices arent very cheap for the thrifty, but if it helps them stay open, Ill pay a little extra for the ability to search the stacks. I definitely recommend going on free comic book day. Nice staff, fun people around (sometimes in superhero costume), a free comic, and last year they had half price on used books. Overall, Im happy the Erie has Books Galore.
Theyve had the same small selection of books for the past 2 years that Ive visited. Yet the comic book selection seems to be booming so if youre into that then I recommend checking it out. But If youre looking for a wide selection of philosophy books; you will be disappointed.
As youre driving down peach street it is pretty difficult to miss the giant spider man out in front of this store, and yet it might seem like a place thats not worth visiting. Youd be surprised. As you walk into the store you see shelves to the ceiling (literally) that are plastered with comic books. Walk through those few aisles and you might start to say, wow they have a really big selection for a small store. But dont stop there, venture behind the checkout counter (which seems weird, but its actually the bulk of their stock) and you will find yourself in two more small rooms filled with the same shelves and books to the ceiling.Head upstairs to the second floor and youll find four more large rooms all filled to the brim with books, including one of my favorite sections, the bargain bin (25 cents for Serpico!?!).On certain days of the week they also open to third floor up, where it is rumored that they have rare comic books (although I havent been back on one of those days yet so I can neither confirm nor deny.)Altogether, awesome experience. Theyve taken a large old style Erie house and turned it into an awesome used bookstore that can easily hold its weight against the likes of Barnes and Noble or Borders. Not to mention that their prices are incredible. I havent seen a book in there going for more than $6, even hardcover! The comic books are also very reasonably priced (although it seems like many of them are new and they do cost more). My husband and I have been repeat customers since and will continue to be. GREAT FIND!
This place is awesome! When they say books galore, they arent exaggerating. Multiple floors of books in a large old building! They carry a lot of board games, card games, comics, used books, and old comics. You could spend days looking through all the books they have.
This place is incredible! We were so lucky to find it driving around Erie. We actually passed by once and upon seeing the sign, turned around as soon as possible. Bookstores are the best places in the universe, I swear.Anyway, we walked in and immediately saw comic books in front of the entrance. To one side there was a collection of romance novels, to another there were newer releases and bestsellers. Working our way to the back, we came upon a very nice woman that we spoke to for a few minutes, then she explained to us the set up of the store. There was another room behind her full of kids/young adult novels and westerns. Beyond that was a room of historical books and classic literature, as well as a few vintage books. Then you could go up the stairs to rooms with lifestyle (cookbooks, self help, gardening, etc), sci-fi/fantasy, entertainment (about Hollywood or movies, TV and movie book adaptations), horror, as well as little cubbies with transportation and cheap bargain books. There was also another set of stairs to a room dedicated to comics, but we didnt go that far, because the door was shut and neither of us reads comics. But we spent.... An hour and a half looking around here? Maybe more. There was so much to see and I know we missed things. The prices were good for a used bookstore (I think I spent $12 on 2 used books in good condition) and it is definitely worth a trip. The only downside I would give doesnt impact me, but I know would be a concern for others: the store is so full of books and shelves that a lot of them are pretty tight and close together. It could be hard to get around in a wheelchair, or maybe even with crutches. And because of the small building, the 2nd and 3rd floors are only accessible via stairs, there unfortunately is not a ramp or elevator option available. But taking these things into account, this place is definitely worth a trip. Just dont go if you have time sensitive plans after. You may be trapped for quite a while.
Pretty great selection, but extremely overpriced. A single dice set is $10 and I could get the exact same set for $3 online. The lady at the counter wasnt very personable and it felt as if she was irritated by my inquiries. However, the gentleman at the counter was extremely polite.
**Update 4/22/14**I just finished making all of my arrangements for a mail subscription with Doug. The process is pretty straight forward. You must be a club member which is $20 for new members and $8 for renewals (early bird renew). From there you follow which titles you want them to ship give them a credit card to put on file and charge every month. I will try to update again at the end of May when my first shipment comes and Ill share condition, timeliness, and how much I was charged.Im pumped about it and you should be too. I think everyone should support this place.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~When I was a young boy I loved reading and collecting comic books. As I got older though I stopped reading because it was hard to find a place to consistently get my books. That is until someone told me about Books Galore in Erie - just pass the mall on Peach.Books Galore is a great place. The staff was always extremely friendly and overly helpful. Their collection is unrivaled and they have most mainstream back issues so if youre looking to fill in gaps from books you were reading (but maybe werent great about catching every issue) a few years back. Their membership is a pretty good deal and Im about to open up a mail subscription service with them because I recently moved to Central Ohio and have been disenchanted with the local comic book store here. I cant stress enough how much Ive come to appreciate BGs customer service. Whenever Im in town - I stop in to see everyone and buy a few custom cover editions that I wouldnt normally have picked up.Love this place...
Supposedly the best comic shop in town. I am in PA for my brothers wedding and drove over 2 hours for Walking Dead Day just to participate. Dropped more then $200 in the store. Been to a lot of comic book shops, but have never been charged for promotional freebies from the publisher. Disappointed... The guys where friendly, but the gentleman that rang us up didnt know what was in stock, or knowledge of the comics and charged for things that where suppose to be free. Friendly but bad service. One extra star for being nice... Cost four stars for being greedy.
Certainly I dont want to complain about a book store, I love books, but this one leaves a lot to be desired for the place in my life I find myself at. I have young children and I want to encourage them to read. I find that for the selection of books they have for children I am better to try Salvation Army or Goodwill. The childrens section is small, Maybe four cases worth and that includes children and adolescents. The books arent organized. And worse whats with all the Dora and Disney? Where is the Miss Nelson is Missing, Lilly and the Purple Plastic Purse, Paddington, Lyle the Crocodile, Moonbear? I have spent hours looking through the childrens books and am happy to spend the money to support a local business and the time to find great books for my kids, but I am just disappointed in the selection and wish they would expand the section and get some quirky, classic, books that want to make kids read in there. As far as adult books go, great selection of fantasy and scifi, but usually dont have books by the other authors I want.
I gotta say its quite a cheeky little bookstore! Was pleasantly surprised, it may not have the biggest selection of hard to find books, but it was fun hunting through shelves just to find something I didnt know I was looking for while trying to find something else. It was a great time.
Ive only been there once but was impressed. Looks small and a bit ratty from the outside but on the inside I was drooling. Im not much into comic books but they have a great comic selection. Used books? If you think of a crazy alchemist having a vast library the image will have slightly less books than BG.Crammed into a corner of the shop is their games selection. Somehow they manage to have a selection that tends to exceeds the selection at a true game store. As Thomas review said the place looks small on the outside but when you step inside its like (showing my nerdness) a TARDIS. It seems a whole lot larger on the inside. Its just above freezing today but I am getting some coffee in me and seriously thinking of driving the half hour to go there rather than buy something on line.Customer service? Like I said I have only been to BG once, but the lady working there made a serious impression on me of the store being one that values customer service and customers. At least for their gaming stuff (hard to set a value on used books because each book is different) the cost at BG is on par with anything you will find on-line especially when you consider that Amazon or other on line store will tack on a shipping charge,Id still recommend Books Galore even if it took me an hour to drive there.
My girlfriend and I decided to take the hour drive to Erie (we live closer to Buffalo) and try books galore solely on the strength of the few reviews here, and were not disappointed! as other reviewers have pointed out, the comic selection is excellent, and the staff is friendly. in light of the relative lack of comic options in the WNY area, we will be returning every month. thanks!EDIT: just a side note for the record, the place is substantially larger than it appears from the road. very well-stocked mom-and-pop store.

2022-06-01Place is a god damn gold mine of the written word. You can find any book of any type of any genre in this place. Want to figure out how to cook a recipe from ancient Mesopotamia? They got you covered. Wanna know how to skin a grown man? Check the biology section; Seriously, it’s amazing. They also have a cheap and great membership plan, and the staff is insanely chill and friendly.

2022-03-27Late last year I talked up this place to my librarian and fellow comic loving best friend when she came to visit Erie and was excited to bring her here. We decided to pop in on a day we hadnt scheduled to go because we needed to kill time before a dinner reservation and got there about ten minutes to closing. We know it was about ten minutes to closing because we were reminded the moment we walked in the door by an older gentleman and were basically told we should know what were looking for and not to get too comfortable browsing around. It was pretty embarrassing, especially after I talked up the place so much. Needless to say she didnt want to come back, and I havent been back since. Im all about supporting local businesses but not when they make you feel like an inconvenience for God forbid wanting to drop a few bucks in their establishment before dinner.

2017-03-06Great comic book store!!! Definitely suggest to anyone in the area! Have a good selection of products. We in particular were looking for a certain expansion to a card game we have and they did not have it in stock. But the lady who was working today was very kind and generous and we told her the product we had in mind. She went to her computer and put in a note to let the one who buys supplies to make sure he purchases it. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere in Books Galore!!
