Great service, great food! Win win! I enjoyed my grilled romaine salad with petite sirloin. They also have a kids menu, my daughter enjoyed her waffle, bacon and fries. I had a delightful dirty martini! Definitely will visit again. Side note, I also enjoyed the music being played.
I’ve been coming here for a while and enjoy it. The food and service have always been good. My experience today was disappointing. It was a busy evening at the bar, I had two rounds of drinks but was charged for three and I didn’t notice until I had already left. I hope this was an oversight.
Great experience. Loved the outdoor dining set up. Our waitstaff person, I think the name is Juancarlo, was very attentive and personable; made us feel welcome; quick with bringing everything out. The food was well prepared and delicious. The chocolate martinis were absolutely perfect!
Thursday, March 4. 2022. Ordered Shrimp & Boursin Fettuccine for dinner. Surprisely, I was very disappointed with the food. I say that because Ive had this dish several months ago and it was excellent. So Im thinking you have changed chefs. The dish was more like soup. Not much pasta and pasta was swimming in the sauce.
Enjoyed a delicious lunch at the bar. Hot chocolate, the most AMAZING Tomato Basil Soup (my favorite soup) I have ever tasted!! Delicious, tender Crispy Buttermilk Chicken sandwich on a brioche bun with their signature slaw on it, and more slaw as my side because, well, its tasty!Never disappointed with the food or service! Masked up and enjoyed a great meal with Hubby!
I got the lamb burger and fries. It was really good. The burger comes medium and was comes to perfection. The only issue I had with this place was that they seemed to be severely under staffed. We probably say there for about 2 hours in total. All we ordered was nachos as an appetizer (which were also really good) and we reach ordered a sandwich (there was four of us). I would have given this place five stars had the service been a little quicker.
Place is great!. Husband and I sat at the bar had a few cocktails, they were delish and affective. Bartender was great! Husband is a vegan so they had plenty of options for him. I had Mediterranean shrimp pasta it was tasty! This was out first visit there but it wont be our last.
The outdoor seating in the courtyard and on the porch, with ceiling fans, is outstanding. Every year I host a large professional group there which is held in their semi private downstairs room. The staff are unbelievably accommodating and flexible as far as hosting us. Wonderful casual atmosphere, good food, and attentive service. Perfect location surrounded by boutiques and cafes in Chestnut Hill. Easy free parking.
Incredible place! Came here for brunch and the food was incredible!! Mimosas didnt disappoint and the bloody Mary was spicy and delicious! The atmosphere is super relaxed and fun, and the waitress and the rest of the wait staff was welcoming, efficient, and attentive! I will definitely be coming back here again and again!
The food is fantastic. My favorite meal is the organic Asian Salmon. It is extremely tasty and well prepared. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. The parking is dedicated and is ample although it can get very crowded. The staff is professional and friendly. This place is clearly one of the top tier places to eat in the area. I highly recommend the Chestnut Hill Grill.
This is a great place to venture to in your leisure time the outside seating and the great food are a major draw for me and my wife its one of our downtime boo love go to spots we always have a wonderful time the surrounding areas are beautiful it is part of our neighborhood and we considered it one of our favorite places and we highly recommended giving Chestnut grill a try weve been multiple times and always leave smiling after a great time and experience 👍👍🙂
Food and beer was pretty good. The coconut shrimp was well done as was the Ultimate Burger. Now as for the negative if youre sitting outside the heating units are not that great so remember to layer before coming out. Also the French fries are pretty subpar but the main dishes were good and service was excellent
Our server was a delight. Even though it was her first day, you couldnt tell😊. However, I cant say the same about my meal. I wanted to order the brisket...only to find that it wasnt available. Then, I thought that I would try the catfish but, that wasnt available either. So, I ended up with the grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken was cold, the lettuce was wilted, the tomatoes werent fresh and neither was the bun☹. But, the fries were hot. Not sure if Ill give them another try😕.
The Chestnut Grill and Sidewalk Cafe was awesome. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal and the food tasted great. Great social distancing going on, servers all had masks on, as did patrons. They were very busy, however, the serve was great, minimal wait for our food. Our servers was very friendly and kept out drinks full. If I lived in the area still I would go back more often.
Edit 9/10/21So I went returned to dine again. Had a party of 4 and we all ate out on the balcony to see the street. We had a new selection of food and this time kids menu ready. The chicken fingers and personal pizza are an excellent for the kids. They were full before our entrees came out. I had the nachos, the guac and dip were delicious and I dont normally go for guac. It was flavorful! My partner had the couturiere board. There was fig spread, walnut crusted goat cheese, mustard cheddar cheese. Which I dont normally find at other restaurants. For our entrees, we had the baby lamb, B and B burger and Ultimate burgers. I have a certain guest in mind to try the bar out with but Ill be back. Stay tuned with updates. And check out my profile to see additional visuals for the resturant.Ive been here multiple times, Im glad the food quality has gone back to its five star level. During the pandemic it seem drop off. But took my partner for lunch we had the fries with cheese sauce, salmon skewers, buttermilk chicken sandwich with mango slaw, and the portobello mushroom burger. Im not vegan but I love mushrooms , I requested carmelized onions and bacon for my sandwich. This is a wonderful date spot the scenery is always sets a mood. Though we didnt get desert or drinks you should try these! There lamb and salmon are always seasoned and cook well.
I love Chestnut Grill. I always have a good experience. Tonight was no different. Our server seemed like he was new but he was very nice, good and thorough. My food was excellent. As always I get something thats not exactly on the menu but it was awesome. I got grilled salmon with fettuccine in a blush sauce, mushrooms and peas. Omg. I am so full right now. Their drinks are ok. I got a margarita and while its hard to mess it up I think theirs could be better. Still good. Just could be better. Whatever you get food wise will be excellent I think since everything is so fresh. You wont be disappointed.
We ate outside in a pest free environment... how did they manage that. Our server was wonderful and pleasant. I ordered a turkey wrap with fries...it was fabulous! It was just that...wrapped, not loose or sloppy. It was cooked to perfection, seasoned well and very tasteful! The fries were excellent and golden brown (very hard to find perfect fries, this place has them). This was my first visit and I will return, the service and food here are top shelf!
Loooooove this place! I have never ever been disappointed with the food here! Today my mom myself and my 2 aunts celebrated my mothers birthday. It was once again a great time! The service was great! We had:Coconut Shrimp, Chicken salad on raisin bread, clam chowder, Lamb Burger, French Fries and Vanilla Ice Cream! Yummy!!!
We just left the restaurant- a nice family outting. We were seated in the inner area of outside dining; I had to give 3 stars because we were bombarded by the spotted lantern bugs. Our table was situated at the post where they were captured by the sticky adhesive. We didnt eat 1/4 of our meal because the bugs flew in our food; they were on the table and on the silverware. To make matters worse, I left as hungry as I was when we arrived. Its unfortunate because I know Chestnut Grill & Sidewalk Cafe have very good food and service.
The food at Chestnut Grill was amazing, 10/10 I definitely would go back. It’s definitely crowded if you pick the wrong time to go. BUT i won’t be going back until their inside dining is open. There are Latern Flies EVERYWHERE. They might even fly on you or your food ( & in this case you can’t send your food back or get a refund). Other than the many bugs surrounding you, the food was amazing.
Terrible pasta. I had a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs for $14. I dont think there was a cup of pasta in the bowl. The sauce was barely enough to coat the pasta and the pasta was not evenly cooked. Three tiny meat balls topped the dish. At least they were tasty. It came with a cold piece of garlic bread. I was still hungry when I finished the meal which was a first. The beer was fine and the service was friendly. Maybe the pizza is better but I am not going back.
John & the Grill did an amazing job with our intimate wedding reception! John worked with us to pull of an intimate wedding reception despite the quarantine. He provided individually packaged delicious meals for each guest to keep social distancing. All of our guests raved about the food, we highly recommend the Chestnut Hill Grill!
I dined in for dinner in the cellar portion of the restaurant. I ordered a Caesar salad, which turned out with both fresh lettuce and fresh grated Parmesan 👍🏻. I then went with the beef brisket. It was served sliced thin on a bed of vegetables. I subbed the mashed taters for fries which were good. Recommended.

My friend and I ordered the same menu items, and are we glad we did! The Mulligatawny soup was SO good, and the Mendicino Grilled Chicken was delicious. The service was terrific as well. My friend and I hadnt seen each for many years, and we made up for lost time by sitting and talking for almost two hours - way after we finished eating. Not once did our server or anyone else working there try to rush us or even seemed concerned that we were still there. I cant say how much of a difference that made to us. Ill be back soon.
We dined outside. Our server (Carly) was fantastic! Quick service with a smile. She recommended and described the delicious specials, and suggested a homemade lemon cake that complimented our choices, adding to an overall wonderful dining experience. We highly recommend this place!!! A+
I would visit this restaurant regularly on my lunch break. For the past six months service has declined. There is always a long wait to receive food. Today my plate was dirty. It had purple sticky stuff under my fries. I sent the plate back. No offer was made to replace my order but suggested that it was on house. I offered to pay for my ice tea but the server declined. I waisted a hour of my time waiting for lunch served on a dirty plate. The manager should of came out and apologized not the server and made an offer to help accommodate due to awful incident and poor wait time. But during a previous occasion my food was not properly prepared and the manager offered to remake after a hour wait to receive the food. I don’t know if the restaurant is under new management but the wait time is horrible and now dirty plates. Customer service is horrible.
Nothing I can truly say bad about this place but also nothing too memorable. Good service, okay food. Food is good for groups with varying tastes but its not the kind of place that has my favorite anything. Only been the one time but its the kind of food Id call reliable...meaning its good enough especially when needing to satisfy dietary needs and preferences.
Ive been here many times over the years in my trips to Philly and as always, this place exceeds expectations. They have a wonderful staff, tasty specialty cocktails, top notch food, and a lovely bar. Also a great selection of scotch which I love. You can dine indoors, outdoors, or at the bar. Lovely, classy decor paired with incredible food makes a visit here worth every dime. The only drawback is parking can be difficult which is kind of par for the course in the Chestnut Hill area of Philly. Definitely give this place a try, you will not be disappointed.
Great outdoor space. This is where I always send (older than me) customers at the retail place I work when they are looking for a place to eat. Lots of options for food and pretty consistent quality and service. A great quiet place for lunch meetings or to take the in laws. Not a great place if youre looking for something exciting/innovative though
Omg! I went there for my birthday a day ago and which ever chef was cooking there that night was on point. I had the baby lamb chops and spinach risotto. So good! The baby chops comes in a thin but flavorful brown gravy which is to die for and the risotto is nice and cheesy but not too cheesy. Absolutely delicious.
As a customer who frequented the restaurant years ago, I was disheartened to I see what The Grill has become after the previous owner retired. The downstairs dining area looks rundown. The seat cushions are cracked and need replacing. The textured walls are passe Maybe they were going for the Mediterranean grotto look, though I doubt it.The service was adequate, but the food quality and selection left a lot to be desired. Not worth the wait time.If you are a vegan or vegetarian , this is not the place for you. My adult daughter, while not a true vegetarian, had to order from the kids menu...grilled cheese panini and penne marinara. The drinks were ok, but if you are a beer drinker, I would suggest sticking with bottled.
I enjoy Lunch better with a party of 4. I was there Friday after 9p until closing. Wasnt impressed with the cream of crab soup & cat fish filet. The soup consisted mostly broth & the cabbage slaw was poorly presented without a toasted roll as requested. Its not normally like that when I visit for lunch.I was very disappointed Friday maybe because it was a party of 9 or tge Server.
Horrible place to visit if you plan on staying a while for cocktails and conversation with friends or family. We were informed by the bartender that each patron is allowed only 3 drinks maximum. This is understandable if the customer is loud and obnoxious, however this was far from the case. My fiance owns 4 restaurants in the area, and we have never heard of such nonsense. I was actually considering this location to have a bridal shower, since i have family coming In from out of town, and this location has the convenience of a hotel, however this incident has changed my mind and we will not be returning, nor will we refer any additional business their way.
I live 2 blocks from the restaurant. Normally would give 3-4 stars. Went there to have brunch at the bar. Over the course of 2 hours we had 3 drinks. There was an extremely annoying and high maintenance wedding party also having drinks and apps at the bar. They were allowed to order multiple cocktails, shots, etc. After 3 mad elf, we were told that was the max due to high ABV. But the wedding party was able to rip shots and have whatever they wanted. I literally watched the mother of either the bride or the groom drinking out of 3 bloody mary glasses. So, someone who lives in the neighborhood and would normally frequent you, too bad? You guys left a bad taste in our mouth over this one.
Food is really good. although, ive been coming for years and they really do need to change up their menu, nothing really ever new to eat. service is alright but when its busy the service sucks badly and their servers come and go so theres always is a new person who is pretty clueless
I ordered the Gnocchi and Gorgonzola Cream for myself, but when the food came out I wanted to share the dish with my vegetarian boyfriend. I couldnt recall every ingredient in the dish that was listed on the menu, so I asked the waitress if it was vegetarian. She said she wasnt sure and would ask the chef. She came back within a few minutes and said it was 100% vegetarian. After he ate about half the plate, he saw something in it that didnt seem right. It was panchetta, which is Italian bacon. Either the waitress lied or the chef lied, and I am disgusted that they were willing to feed the dish to someone that doesnt eat meat. I was asking on his behalf. Its not as though they would have needed to remake the dish. I would have just not shared it. Despicable employees.
Ive often eaten at the Chestnut Hill Grill and every time I do it leaves me wanting. This past Thursday was absolutely awful I put in my order at about 6: 45 and was not served my dinner until nearly 8 the bartender was way too busy with no help and the service was awful the food was lukewarm when it came out the risotto was cold itll probably take me another 3 months before I go back there again.
I was just there today. This may seem petty, but I have one question. Why do you settle for tasteless tomatoes from your supplier? Its the same problem all over the city. Not just eating establishments, but supermarkets and even produce stores. A ripe, slightly chilled, juicy tasty tomato is a simple pleasure that has become a rarity. So I say this with all respect...start to raise a ruckus when they try to unload those tasteless hot house tomatoes on you. Theyre just unacceptable.
Hi Greg (the owner),I hope you had a better evening than my mother, boyfriend, and I had at your restaurant. We were enjoying our second round of drinks and awaiting dessert after a delicious meal when you rudely interrupted us. You offered no courtesies such as hello or how is your meal?. Instead, you proceeded to tell us that you needed to flip the table so that the restaurant could serve more patrons because your wait staff needs tips to pay rent. When my mother informed you that we were not done our meal, you essentially repeated yourself verbatim.Greg, here are a few things to consider. Firstly, if you are so concerned about your waitstaffs ability to pay rent, how about you pay them a living wage? That way you dont need to harass paying costumers that up until your tactless intervention were enjoying their evening. How long have you worked in the restaurant industry? If I had to guess, Id say less than a day because you have no clue how to speak to costumers. Thats a shame because the food and staff (shoutout to our server Jeff, who rocks) are pretty cool. Since its your first day on the job, I am happy to give you free advice, no tip required. Harassing and guilting customers into giving up a table before their meal is over is not a good idea. I know, I know. Thats intuitive for most people. But occasionally people forget. I hope you dont.
What has changed at the Chestnut Hill Grill?I have eaten there for many years. I almost always get the Mussels.Tonight I ordered the Mussels and they were giant sized, tough and sandy. They used to be small, delicate and delicious. I also ordered a house salad. It came with rotten lettuce. What a disappointing meal.Other restaurants in Chestnut Hill beckon.
The food was very delicious everything was on point very quiet very romantic setting and I thought I wouldnt give it a five-star its not worth 5 stars its a 10 star restaurant basically a great place to take a date your wife girlfriend to eat and appreciate good quality food

2022-02-26Me and my mom went for lunch and it was a great experience. It’s two levels and outside seating. It was cold so we didn’t get to sit outside. The downstairs dining doesn’t have bathrooms or great cell service the staff informed us. We sat on the main level. The server was nice. Food came out hot and was oh so good. My mom never had catfish and had ordered the tacos and didn’t like the texture of the fish so they were great offering her other options. I can’t wait to go back for dinner and happy hour. Mussels and entres are available after 4.

2021-10-20Always amazing! Ultimate Burger one of my favorites. Mom had Petite New Zealand Lambchops appetizer. We were able to relax and enjoy the outdoor ambience. Thumbs up again!! Thanks for a really enjoyable afternoon and late lunch!! Highly recommend this place!

Prepare yourself for a party in your mouth, yes it’s that Good. On to the desserts I tried the Pecan Pie with Vanilla Ice cream it was love at first bite. The gooey filling crispy crust and sweetness is so yummy. This place is a must try.

2022-07-01This was a nice little restaurant! The food was good, and our server was friendly. The prices are a little high, but nothing too crazy. I got the chicken sandwich with mango coleslaw because I thought that sounded interesting; it was very tasty. The fries also had a nice seasnoning. The portions of the salads were nice, so at least it justifies the price a little. We were a party of four around mid afternoon visiting the area and we wanted a late lunch. They werent very busy since it was around 3pm and they sat us downstairs. The atmosphere was so nice! Cute blue glass ceiling lights hung above every table. Overall, it was a nice meal. I can imagine they get busy for dinner because its a nice place to enjoy a quiet good dinner with a pretty good variety of food options including vegetarian options. Would consider visiting again!

2022-06-08Went for some munchies and beer for my birthday tonight. Fabulous! Wanted a low key evening. Sat outside on a nice crisp evening and had great service from our young waitress. Ordered mussels which were perfectly steamed and floating in the most amazing broth. Coconut shrimp was perfect. Beer was tasty. All went well. Will definitely dine here again soon.

2022-06-20Used to LOVE this place. Patronized for over 10 yrs. Went there yesterday and it was okay to disappointing. Times change and staff, ESPECIALLY the cooks AND bartenders have. I get it. But my cocktail REALLY sucked. It was a whiskey sour. Hard to mess up. My appetizer NEVER showed up. My salad tasted good BUT I DIDNT finish it because I found a long brown hair in it. I probably will NEVER return. I gave 3 stars in MEMORY of what used to be and because COVID destroyed most quality customer service oriented businesses so I get that its going to take A WHILE before things truly get better. I wish you luck!

2022-05-14Everything that I ordered was delicious. The hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. There were 9 of us and everyone was pleased. The service was impeccable. Dirty dishes were periodically removed without being asked, we didnt have to wait for the checks or the to go boxes and bags. Very good dining experience.
