So this place is on the higher end of pricing for a restaurant like this, but the portions are HUGE. There was more than enough left for a second meal. The waitress was nice to me and had a smile on. I also thought the food was great! Also, you actually seat yourself at this place, which was interesting too. Overall, though a bit pricy, it was a warm environment and Id go back again.
We had a great experience! Food was delivered quickly and tasted great! Beer was good and cold.
Food is satisfactory, but the employee that was named “Grace” sneezed on my change she apologized, but still gave me the change. It was also the wrong amount of change, about 20 cents short. She then prepared my chili fries with the same unwashed sneezed-on ungloved dirty hands that touched all the change before. Her mask was falling below her nose and she had dirty hair that wasn’t even put up properly. Her stomach was sticking out the whole time and it appeared very unprofessional and made the eating experience uncomfortable.
My daughter and I love having lunch here when we are in the area. Its a special treat. They have a great selection of beers and wonderful German food. Their Blue Max sandwich is what I usually order, but today I had a Bismarck, German hot potato salad, with a German Bock beer....Yum!
Love this place however food quality has gone down they were far too interested in closing up at 7pm on a Saturday night then providing a nice meal. Service was good sandwiches were lousy.
Even with the long line of people waiting for a bite to eat during this holiday season, we had a table promptly and greeted accordingly. Jennifer was a great waitress. Great beer, great food, great atmosphere!
Super...German beer on tap, authentic decorations and cuckoo clocks it looks like youre inside a beer tent in Germany and the food is very authentic and really good... Im part German so I should know!
I cant remember our servers name, but she was young, black glasses, and dark hair. Very cute voice if that helps. She was wonderful. I havent been here in over a year and glad to see the good service here hasnt changed. My mom couldnt decide on a beer and she let my mom taste the grapefruit beer which made her decide on the one.I ordered a grilled chicken ceasar salad and the chicken came out ice cold. Instead of remaking the whole salad which I wasnt a fan of because then I wouldve had to wait to eat, she just brought some hot new chicken out. Also the salad was huge, wasnt expecting it to be that big but I was happy it was. If I find out her name I will edit my review. She deserves credit for how well she treated us.P.s if you like sweet beer try the Raspbery Lumeric, Its very good!

Stopped here for lunch last week. We ordered at the quick service part on the left side. The lady working at the counter was very nice. She showed us to a table in the roped off seating area in the front, and brought our food out to us. Great food & friendly service! Very clean, as well.
Great place to stop and eat while at the mall! Been eating here for years, always friendly service. Helpful and very accommodating to my dietary requests and needs. If you are in the mall, it’s the place to stop and relax and refresh before finishing your day!

Plexiglass shields separate each booth and each dining party is seated at least 1-2 booths away from each other. Tables are unavailable, but theres still plenty of seating. Great adherence to social distancing protocol! Good, fast service and delicious food, as usual.
My party of three had such a good time at Dunderbaks today! My mother had the Goulash with Spaetzel, and she especially liked my sauerkraut on my German Platter (I think it was titled that). Our friend enjoyed her Good Luck Pork & Sauerkraut, and I was a huge fan of their potato pancakes with sour cream. The Heffeveissen flowed and tapped out just as our waitress slid our German Chocolate Cake across the table for us three ladies to share. Table service was prompt for taking orders, and the kitchen was on the ball for preparing the food as we liked it. My only recommendation for improvement would be for the wait staff to remove the dirty plates as they accumulate at the tables end, which is generally a sign that diners wish to have their plates removed. Nobody wants to sit and look at dirty dinner dishes while eating dessert. We had a fabulous time and will certainly come back again and again.
Waiting time for the food was a lil longer than expected. Also, when the food finally arrived, everything was low on salt!!! I mean, if youre all about healthy eating, be my gues but when I go outI want to eat and have taste on my food. A lil tasteless for my choice.The waiter was very nice and very social.
My first time here since the Pandemic. Take out. The hot dogs are top notch. The staff are very protected and follow the rules. However the Mall I give a 2 out of 5. So many customers unmasked and half masked. Not much social distancing. Not many following the floor arrows or markers. And kind of crowded for a Tuesday. If there is an outside door I will be back otherwise no. The security at the Mall needs to better enforce the rules.
They have the best fried pickles around, they are lightly battered and delicious!! they have a take out side that also allows beer purchases and they have a dine in side that allows drinking. Its great for family time or just to get a quick lunch.
OMG!!! My son and I ate here just recently. The food is soooooo good. If you want good German food this is the place to go. Our waitress told us they have been there as long as the mall opened. 40 some years. That tells me alot.
We had a great time here! The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. The goulash was sehr gut and our waitress Jennifer was super friendly as well.
I love this place. Great food excellent service and beer. Which makes my husband very happy. I had the bratwurst sandwich excellent. My daughter got a club sandwich my son in law got the dunderbrat he loved it and my husband got the Cajun cheddar brat. He loved it. Great fries nice atmosphere with German music playing. Check this place out.
Awesome German food and beer. Been there forever and for good reason. Never had a bad meal there. Now they have gluten free/low carb options as well. Plus, mall shopping is better after a couple drinks.
I loved going here for their cheap prices when I worked at the mall. I loved the paper cups that screamed 90s. They have Snapple and a variety of other products. I love that I can get soup and a hotdog when I needed to with barely a line. Their food is good for the price and the service there is alright.
There are so many things to love about this place. Personally, its a bit of home as we find ourselves coming here every time we visit family. I love that its tucked away in a corner by Macys in the mall. I love to see how it draws locals to sit outside of the restaurant and enjoy a dog or brat while chatting about the day. Most of all I love and appreciate the service.
I always have the absolute best experience here! Never disappointed in the food or staff, especially one server in particular, Rose! She is fast, helpful, and spirited. Youre definitely missing out if you dont stop by and try out the food, beer, and the delicious sauerkraut!
German food, yeah, very tasty. Service is excellent even when they are busy. Looking forward to a return trip. The bill was decent. If it wasnt far from my work I would come by more.
Great german food. Had the german sampler (knockwurst was great!), weinerschnitzel platter with spatzle and weinkraut (sauerkraut). Will go back to try beer and german chocolate cake

Updated review 6/28/19:This place has gone way downhill in a year. We used to love coming here but our service today was awful. We had called ahead (11am) since we had 8 people for a reservation since we knew it would require moving tables together and the gentlmen that sat us just said oh i wasnt here nobody told me...no big deal there were very few people anyway so it took no time at all. Our waitress came over and only half paid attention to our orders and requests as she mixed up soups on us (there were only 2 of us that got soup), mixed up entrees, brought the wrong sides and then brought the wrong drinks when 2 of us requested water. On top of this our friend couldnt eat her salad because it looked and tasted awful, they ended up being out of what my husband originally ordered and it took much longer than usual to get our food. Dont know that we will be coming back anytime soon which is a shame because this used to be one of our favorites.Original review (5 stars):An overlooked gem. We never have to wait for a table, our food typically comes out very quickly and is always delicious. Good beer selection on tap and more in bottles; if its on tap they will even give you a sample if youre unsure about a whole glass.
Great food, friendly waitress, wonderful relaxing atmosphere. Prices were high though. 2 adults and one child our bill was almost $60. No one really got anything expensive but it added up. Not a place I will rush back for a quick lunch.
I cant get enough of this hidden gem! Everytime I come home from out of town, I try to meet my best friend here for great food and great drinks! Every dish Ive ever had here has been good! The service is wonderful and so is the atmosphere! Try it if you havent already! You will not be disappointed!!

This is THE THING to eat at the Lehigh valley mall. Beer selection is good and the hotdogs are as good as a hot dog can be. The price is reasonable and the employees are always extremely nice, even accommodating a vegetarian option for a hot dog (consisting of French fries, sauerkraut, cheese and mustard - for those of you who are curious - and it was disgusting, but thats not the point). Highly recommend going, you wont regret it!
I tried Dunderbaks for the first time 2 days ago and it was excellent! I had the open face Turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and it was so good. A very hearty portion. I am excited to take my daughter there for the first time tomorrow.
Ive been going to Dunderbaks since I was a young girl. It is one of few restaurants that continue a long legacy + maintain quality dining experience. Delicious authentic German style foods- Ive never eaten a bad meal here. You will not be disappointed.
1 star is being gracious. Any place that sells beer as carryout for lower price than on dine in menu, then tells their customers they cant drink the product because it is BYOB should close their business. This is one loyal customer they have lost permanently.
All the food is very good and quite different to other restaurants in the area. They have a nice beer selection. I recommend parking on the JC Penney side of the mall because youre gonna want to walk off the meal you stuffed yourself with.
Two girls were working today (3/18/18). The one girl was nice, and very helpful. The other girl was rude to my Family and I as customers, and was rude to her co-worker. She made a mistake with our food, and our drink. We waited awhile to get our food so I just said something about the drink that she forgot, and then she started filling up the wrong size cup . When I told her we ordered a large she turned around to change our drink to a large, and started loudly talking about my Family and I, while I was standing there. Its not hard to be a decent person.
Ive been coming to Dunderbaks with my family for years. The smell alone brings back fond memories of dining here as a kid. The soup here is delicious and other fare has always been tasty. Perfect place to grab a bite to eat while shopping.
One of my favorite places in the valley. We go every time were in the mall and sometimes we go to the mall just to eat there. You have to have their homemade perogies! They have good wursts and sandwiches, a great beer selection, friendly staff and decent prices. Also, if youre from the area, they have a great rewards program. I just used my $10 birthday coupon (that was good for a month) and you get points every time you eat there that add up to $5 off coupons. I highly recommend it!
Do NOT go here if you have a small child and just need a quick bite. My 19 month old daughter and I went here today and they said we were not allowed to sit in the dining room, even after paying. So we both were forced to sit and eat on the uncomfortable metal chairs right outside the restaurant. Im assuming because Dunderbaks wants their tip credit and cares 0% about customer satisfaction. Even a nice elderly lady saw what happened and agreed that it was ridiculous. Never going here again. Ill buy overpriced impulse-buy food at JC Penny before I go here again. Please dont leave a reply on this with a copied and pasted response saying youre sorry with a free hotdog coupon. I do not want it.
I havent been here for years... the fact that this restaurant has been here since I was a young girl should speak volumes (Im 47). The food was still delicious . They offer a larger menu now (some gluten free items and more deli fare). The old standards are still there. I had the weinerschnitzel mit Rotkohl und Spaetzle ( red cabbage and Spaetzle noodles) . It was amazing. If you are in Whitehall and are looking for good German food or deli dishes, they are located in the Lehigh Valley Mall on the lower level by jcpenney. Great beer selection too!
Dine in or fast take out. I prefer dine in. I orderd a turkey wrap sandwich and iced tea. The waitress was friendly, checked in to say my food will be out shortly and it was. The food was good. I enjoy Dunderbaks, because of the sit down service, atmosphere and the variety of food.
Food was very good but I was disrespected by one of your young staff She was very tall with long brown hair and I believe her name started with an R or something like that but I am not too sure. She practically threw our food at us and incorrectly made my meal THREE TIMES and got an attitude with my husband when he asked her for another thing she forgot. Her coworker fixed our order and did it correctly on the first try and was very respectful unlike the first girl. I suggest you speak to the one girl about her behavior or else you will lose business. Aside from that, the bratwurst and the rueben are my, and my husbands!, favorite meal there!
You cannot go wrong here. Bring your child in a stroller or drinking partner to relax at the bar. They can handle either. If you want to get out but not to your same old place, come here. Excellent atmosphere, food, and beers from around the world.
Fortunately the basmati is perfect and I did order vegetarian samosa, so I ate that for dinner.In town for a Spartan Race and we were looking for Indian food, after crushing the Super on Saturday. We found Clove on yelp, and headed out. The food was outstanding, and the service was even better.

An excellent dining area! The soup and half sandwich is the best! I was offered to taste some beer! The one I chose was Grapefruit and tasted just like the fruit with less alcohol amount! I definitely refer Dunderbaks!

Solid German menu, and a great beer selection. This is an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the Mall experience. The Jagerschnitzel is amazing, and their sausage variety is just as good. Consider becoming a member of their loyalty program! One thing that makes their location less than ideal, is the cellular black hole they occupy and years of non-functioning wifi access to help customers stay connected.
Love the atmosphere this restaurant offers. The kids always look forward to stopping here for a meal. We have never been disappointed with the quality of food or the service provided. Great beer selection, too!
WTF happened to this place?!? It used to be GOOD. I ordered weinerschnietzel last time I went... normally its buttery, crispy melt-in-your-mouth-tender and the gravy is delicious. This time it was a rubbery, chewy, soggy mess and the gravy tasted like it came our of a can or jar. No way.
Im not a picky eater by any means but the food here was horrible. First I got the tuna wrap and the flavor was just not there. I never went somewhere and disliked a simple dish like tuna salad. The hot German potato salad certainly did not have the German flavor Im used to. I asked to trade it in because it had pork which I didnt realise . I was given the American potatoe salad which tasted like paper . No flavor at all. I had to trade that in as well because I was not wasting my $10 on food I did not like. I ended up with the coleslaw which also tasted mortifying. Overall the food was terrible ! Never again.
Was not expecting such great food in the mall! Everything we ordered was remarkable in that it was delicious. Wide menu selection of German style dishes. Prices in line with any diner in the area and the service was cheerful and fast. Great choice for something different while shopping and inundated with the same old eateries.
Best German food in town. Surprisingly located in the mall but still felt secluded and comfortable on the sit down side. Ill be coming back for the excellent soup and goulash!
Dunderbaks is the Dunderbacks of restaurants.I know a lot of people love the beer selection, Im not much of a beer drinker but the food is as good of reason as the beer to make the trek. (There isnt one near me) :(

Very disappointed. Had my first delivery. Goulash over spaetzle. When I opened the container it smelled awful. The spaetzle smelled and tasted like it was done in rancid oil. My whole house smells like rancid oil. Why make spaetzle in oil at all? Spaetzle in water and properly salted or buttered is just fine! 5 beef cubes on the top were overly delicious. Meals I had in the restaurant were always delicious. I guess this was just a fluke ( I hope) and I wont give up on them--yet!
I just love this place and visit when I come back to PA. Little pricey but it is in a Mall.
My sandwich was microwaved, couldnt cut or chew bottom crust. Waitress took off bill. Bratwurst was very good. Dessert was very good.
My wife and I love the food here, and fantastic beer!The beer cheese and pretzel logs are amazing, and the spaetzle is wonderful (I get beer cheese sauce to put on it, so tasty).
My only regret about Dunderbaks is that I never noticed it before. Situated right between Macys and Spencers I never gave it any mind, but going here was wonderful. The theme of the restaurant is very cohesive and feels like its own little German world apart from the mall. I ordered an open face turkey sandwich with spätzel and it was DELICIOUS! The price for all of us was no more than youd spend anywhere for food at the mall, and I think Dunderbaks is going to be my go to for my mall visits!
Owner needs to learn customer service. You think he would know better having been in the business. He clearly forgot customer is always right. Was waiting in line after giving our name when we were called up to go to our table. Another host took another party behind us and gave it to them. When I said something to the owner. He was oh well. Then when I stood back in line He said I need you to move over there. No Im sorry or you soft drinks will be on me. I wont go back.
Me and my girlfriend each got a hot dog and an order of fries to split. The hot dogs came out right away so we ate them and then had to wait over 15 minutes for one order of fries and they werent even busy
Always delicious and hot and tasty. The german food is the best. Get the potato pancakes, knockwurst, bratwurst, or kielbasa. The german potato salad is amazing and the red cabbage is to die for. Great beers too.

Been coming here since I was a Mall Rat. The food is absolutely still the same. Its wonderful. If you need a great Hotdog with kraut this is the spot.

I’ve been coming here since I was a toddler with my family and I still stop by to get lobster bisque soup and a 6 pack of German beers every time I have to go to the Lehigh Valley Mall. Best deli in the area.
They literally served me Craft Mac and cheese. And charged me 2 dollars extra for it. Warm beer. Frozen boxed food.Very disappointing. So much for wanting to try authentic German food.

I Have gone here many times to enjoy the great German beer which is quite pricey by the way.A few times I have ordered some of the dinner with my lady,I found the portions very scimpy for what you pay,I feel what this Valley needs is a full scale quality resturant.
The food was very nasty! I heard a mouse screaming from a trap and when I went to tell the workers they acted as if they hadnt seen anything! Very nasty! My sister even got sick eating the hot dogs!! Never again!!!

Shopping with my 12 year old niece, convenienced her it would be good , I had pieorgies and potato pancakes( had a craving ) she had a chicken frahita , she said ot was the best ever. Their potato pancakes are great.
Food was ok. Service was extremely slow. Bit into a toothpick in my sandwich and manager Tammy did not even apologize, took my sandwich and still charged me. Never again will my family will ever go here again. Manager Tammy us the worst.

The mushroom soup by itself is enough reason to go. The German food is enough reason to go. The selection of beer is enough reason to go. And you can shop for European foodstuffs including chocolates.

BEWAREThe perogies where frozen (Misses Ts) and the pastrami sandwich was burnt and my fish sandwich was gordan fishermen fish... All frozen food disgusting and there mustard bottles were never wiped down

Cold soup, slow service. Did not order anything crazy and soup came out 1st and was cold then sandwiches 10 later sent soups back waited again, not impressed.
Try the champagne cheese spread. I buy it for parties or holidays. Its delicious!

2022-03-15Used to always go with my mom when we would have a girls day at the mall and I havent been there in years. The food and service was great as always and my server Stephanie was so nice and friendly. Highly recommend for a nice little lunch or dinner.

2021-11-12A favorite place to eat for decades. The German-inspired menu remains a cherished diversion from Mall shopping. The beer selection is greatly reduced from years past, but still formidable. Very friendly staff serves delicious food and drink.

2019-04-21We tried this place out today as we really like German food. This place was AMAZING 😉. There are so many cuckoo clocks adorning the walls. There were many large photos of German castles nestled in mountain ranges. A beautiful environment to dine in. They also were playing German music in the background. We do not often go to the mall, but when we do in the future this will be our go to dining place.We had the Bavarian Mushroom 🍄 soup which was delicious 😋. The pot roast was also very good and the mashed potatoes on top with gravy completed the dish well. I had a side of red cabbage that was excellent. For dessert I had the German chocolate cake. The entire meal was excellent. Will definitely return to try other dishes.

2022-03-25I am at dunderbaks and ordered a hotdog from the grill part and wanted to enjoy it in the dining room with my family whom ordered from the menu.! I have been eating here for years. Love their hotdogs... the hotdog comes out and looks good till I flip it over where it was gray and rancid looking. It smelled sour! So I call the server over who was very nice and accommodating and he apologized and removed the hotdog and told me he spoke with the manager. I sit their while my family eats. They are done eating and I had to ASK to see the manager. Out comes a young apparently inexperienced girl.. she walks over and proceeds to tell me the hotdog was fine! She says its from the steamer that it looks and smells. I have been eating here since they opened. Never has any of their hotdogs looked or smelled. I asked her to eat it and tell me how she feels in an hour from now. I told her she is way to young and inexperienced to be in management. First the customer is never wrong, second she should have come out immeduatly to apologize for the inconvenience. Not debate me and tell me the hotdog was fine.. This is not good management behavior and I have never had issues here before. She needs training and better management skills! Then as she walking away she rudely says have a wonderful day!

2020-09-27Enjoyed an excellent meal here today! Burgers and hot dogs are great, and so are entreas. The service is fast and friendly. Weve been coming here for decades and will continue. The atmosphere and decor are so unique and pretty!
