I used to really like this place but the management and wait staff needs improvement. I witnessed a waitress rudely ask a customer if they knew how many ounces were in their pitcher, the manager raised her voice at table that had questions about the pricing of their bill bc communication was unclear.I ordered the Baja fish tacos and didn’t like them, I took one bite. I notified my waitress and gestured for her to take my plate and she abruptly told me she would get her manager. Once the manager came I repeated that I didn’t like my food and she refused to take it off my bill because nothing was “wrong” with the food, even though I was going to order something else.I am completely dissatisfied with this establishment and hope the wait staff can improve their people skills.
Place totally fell off! They add 20% gratuity no matter what on a big sign in front of the restaurant. They never come back to the table so are we there once when he took her order somebody from the kitchen delivered our food and then we had to scramble somebody down to get our check! Burnt old tasteless ribs!
I will never go to this restaurant ever again. I order my two kids strawberry lemonade drinks. My kids sips the drink and they said it was nasty and it tasted weird. As I go to open the lid off the cup you smell alcohol in the drinks. I taste the drinks and they was extra strong. The waiter argued with everyone at the table down saying it was no alcohol in it. It took 10 minutes for the manager to come out to only say sorry and give us 15% off our food and walked off.
The worst service at a restaurant that I have ever experienced. We came here for cinco de Mayo, I understand that it’s a holiday, but this place cannot handle busy nights. I worked in restaurants all of my life, and this was unacceptable. We waited 4 hours for a table (we were told it would be a 3 hour wait). Then we waited another hour and a half after sitting down to get our food. We ended up leaving and not paying for two dishes because we didn’t even receive them. We went to talk to the manager and he was very rude. Did not even offer to compensate our meals or drinks. What a joke. Spent 5 hours total here and didn’t even get our food. Don’t come here.
I was visiting a friend for the first time in Philly and he suggested his friends restaurant. This place is a GEM. Amazing wait staff and their menu is BOMB. We ordered the Sangria, Pina colada and iced tea for drinks. For meals, we had the meat combo (brisket, sausage and pork belly), brisket melt and lump crab quesadilla. The portions a huge and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. We would 100% recommend and plan to come again!
I enjoyed myself at El Camino Real. The waitstaff was entertaining and attentive. He was the life of the restaurant but of course I dont remember his name. The shrimp appetizer delicious and the texas toast was made perfectly. The salmon tacos were also delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese but couldnt finish it so I took it to go...to be continued. I enjoyed how elaborate their drink list was but I didnt drink alcohol and they only had lemonade as a non carbonated beverage. At least our waiter upgraded it to a strawberry lemonade which was tasty.
I’m sorry but it really should be illegal to add a gratuity especially a 20% gratuity to a table of two people. The food was mediocre at best. The hostess was miserable so that started us off on the wrong foot. The only good thing was our waitress, she did her job well.
On Saturday March 19th me and some friends had a table outside to enjoy the beautiful day and the food here which is one of my favorite places to eat at in the city. Around 5pm people from our table started to get in a nice heated debate over the Sixers. Just having some fun sports talking. No one at our table used any offensive words nothing just minded our business. A short time later the Mgr came to our table and asked us to calm down people around us where upset. We had no problem we complied with the request. So a few mins later a table of four across from us was unbearable loud and rude using every curse word in the book. No Mgr or employee told them to calm down. That party just carried on and on. So after that we got our check and generously tip our severs and left. Very disappointed I will no longer go here.
Stopped into El Camino to try the shrimp burritos my friends have raved about. They were very good but a bit on the smaller size for a burrito that you may be used to getting. The menu is varied from tacos to bbq and I would stop in again to try the bbq sampler. Food that night did come out quite slowly however.
Worst service ever. Food was good, not great. I was waiting for my dessert for 40 minutes. After 40-minute wait, I asked one of the waiters to bring the check without including a dessert since we needed to go. Our waitress didn’t show up after I asked for a dessert. 10 minutes later we didn’t receive a check but they brought a dessert… which was unwanted by that time. They included the dessert in the check even tho I asked not to… and wasted some of our time. I was extremely upset when I found out that they also include 20% automatic tip for a waiter which, to me, doesn’t sound fair. I’m not gonna be back again…
Went here with a few friends - wasn’t really impressed. We ordered wings, fajitas, a burrito and some shrimp tacos. The wings were probably the best part of the meal - everything else really lacked flavor. The service was friendly and the ambience was nice, but the food was struggling. It’s not bad food it’s just average food. And when you go into a restaurant by the piazza you expect more than average.
I’ve been coming here for over 10 yrs! The food has always been great, their customer service has never been consistently good, often I’ve opted for takeout or Just hit Dos Segundos( but they were closed Mon. Night) up the street who has great consistent customer service.I came in Monday night, asked the waitress if my Mexican corn could be off the cob, instead of asking the kitchen she immediately said sorry not tonight. They have never denied my request over 10 yrs! It takes all of 10 secs to take a knife and slide it down the corn. But flaky customer service is what I expected here. It was the dismissiveness of my request that bothered me.She also never came once to check on our table, we had to ask for the check after waiting for 15mins after we finished our food which was in a much smaller portion than it had been. I’ve waited tables, customer service is highly important. A customer asks for something, wait staff should always inquire and be made to feel they are valued. We just felt dismissed and under valued on a night that was pretty low on traffic. I’ve never left a bad review over worse experience here, so my 1 star is long over due.
Don’t eat at this place. In order to reserve a table for two for outdoor seating, we were told that a card must be on file. Of course i provided my card info, to see what’s the hype about with this restaurant. 30-40 minutes later, we were seated at an outdoor table. I understand that the restaurant can’t control bugs crawling on their outdoor tables & a lantern fly flying on my appetizer. I understand it, but the restaurant can control their lack of good customer service. We asked for indoor seating, and we were told that we would have to wait another 20 minutes for indoor seating. At this point, we wanted to leave and cancel the orders that we placed for entrees. I didn’t mind paying for the appetizer being on our tab, because we dabbled in the appetizer; however, the waiter informed me that the entrees (that have not yet arrived to our table) were already charged to my card. I have not ever dined at a restaurant that charges your card before your meal arrives to your table. It was a big lie. I asked the waiter to cancel the charge, and he said he couldn’t do that, and the manager said the same (with a very nasty attitude). While speaking with the manager for about 15 minutes, the food still didn’t arrive BUT “MY CARD WAS STILL CHARGED.” This restaurant is a scam. If a card is used for a reservation, how do you know a person doesn’t want to pay their tab with cash? I don’t even think that our food was done being cooked yet, because it took a while to come out (during my conversation with the manager). If this was an upscale restaurant, i could understand cards being used for reservations, but no. The Set No Libs bar (next door) is way better.
Atmosphere is spot on; when you walk up its feels like Austin.BBQ brisket was ok (see below), and service was excellent.I would like to come back and try the tacos.Things I would improve:The Jalapeno Margarita was ok but it didnt have any pop at all.The brisket didnt have a smoke ring at all, and the flavor was scraping by with ok.BBQ sauce needs to be served room temperature, not cold. The spicy had good flavor minus a sweet aspect. Remove the sugar and theyll have a good BBQ sauce.
We loved everything about El Camino Real except the cheesesteak. El Camino Real, big fun place. I liked the window art. The cheesesteak came with french fries. The french fries were heavily seasoned and the ketchup has either a Sriracha ketchup or BBQ ketchup or BBQ sauce, whatever it was, I like the Heavenly season french fries with a barbecuey sauce. The Cheesesteak was just a miss. The roll was big, bready and didnt work with his cheesesteak. They use a cheese sauce which should be able to get through all the meat but it didnt. The meat was a little dry. We loved everything else. Maybe go to El Camino Real and dont get the cheese steak
Seeing as this is a Mexican restaurant I ordered the steak tacos. They were horrible. Not authentic at all. The two tiny peices of steak that came on each of the 3 cold tacos was tough, chewy, and not seasoned. The red cabbage on the side had no dressing or anything so that plain flavorless shredded cabbage was a bummer. My lunch mate ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich that comes with Mac and cheese on top. That was better than my tacks but thats not saying much since the tacos were so horrible. The bbq is super sweet and not like good authentic smoked bbq Ive had at other places.I also got the chips and salsa which they charge you for ($1 per person). The green salsa tastes like blended up green bell peppers. No garlic, no seasoning at all. Gross. The other salsa was just a bunch of chopped tomatoes with a little cilantro and garlic. Again no seasoning and HUGE chunks of tomatoes so its not so much a dipping salsa as it is a topping for tacos.Service: Meh. Waitress was okay. One guy refilled my water every time I took a sip so that was kind of annoying. Neither were friendly in fact they seemed annoyed.Overall: wont be back here.
Usually no issues, but this time appetizer was sour, tasted like seltzer water. Burrito looked unappealing n taste even worse. Additionally zero attention from server, basically telling us this is whats on the menu. Huge disappointment, will not return for a while...Edit:will not be returning.
This place is definitely 4 stars but the bartender we had brings down the review. I ordered a frozen margarita. It really wasnt frozen...basically a liquid. So I ask is there something wrong with the machine, the drink is not froze, or even a little slushy. She says I can water it down for you. Alcohol doesnt freeze and your drink is strong so this is why its not frozen. Well why charge me extra for a frozen or even have it on the menu? Thats false advertising. Ive had frozen margaritas all over the world. I dont know where her head was at but that whole discussion blew my mind. Now other than that everything was great with this place. The food I ordered was delicious. The drink was cool, just wasnt frozen. They have plenty of tables but you dont feel squeezed in. They have 2 nice size bars. The bathroom is downstairs so make sure you dont have too many before going to drain the lizard. Would definitely go back tho. Just a bad episode with 1 bartender. Me and my coworker laughed about it when we went back to work. Good time
Great location with lot of option around. Not Authentic Mexican food at all and more like Tex-Mex food.No Al Pastor for instance. Queso fondido actually is more creamy and lot of chorizo in it served with fried tortilla. This dish was disappointing actually. Nachos Ok. Special shrimp taco with pineapple Ok as well but not server in corn tortilla. Pretty decent margarita.
We came here for some late night food last night and had really delicious dishes and great service. But the main reason I am posting a review is to thank the wait staff and specifically chef Victor, as we were followed and harassed by a man after leaving and needed to run back into the restaurant to seek some safety. Victor ran out and talked to the man and prevented him from waiting for us and made him leave, and even offered to walk with us to ensure we were safe. Can’t thank him and the staff enough for their help in that situation!
Firstly the most gentrified tasteless cold tacos I have ever had. Had no taste whatsoever & barely any meat for over $13. Secondly the bartender was very rude. He kept turning his back to as as we asked him questions. Asked him to suggest a drink & he pointed at all of the alcohol. Asked him what goes well with the drink, he called out every single soda or juice. How was that helpful? Then he proceeded to throw my receipt at me. My friend ordered a burrito and they gave her tacos & then said “well it’s tacos so I can’t do anything about that”. Asked to speak to the manager and he was very dismissive & was more concerned about us making a scene than what we had to say. Worst place EVER. do not go here if you value your money because they do not care.
The staff is completely rude and the customer service is horrible they refused to give us service because they decided to closed the kitchen early and got mad when we asked why then they said the bar is open till 1045 you can still get drinks well we never got drinks because the whole store had a conversation over our initial interaction with one of the severs so the staff just kept walking by and purposely ignoring us finally I speak to someone and he turns around with attitude being completely rude I asked for his name so i contact someone about the experience and he completely refused this place sucks compared to what it used to be
One of my favorite places. Been here twice within the same month and Julia has been my waitress. Julia is very sweet, attentive, and funny!Tried the Veggie Wings and YUMMM! I was shocked at how good they were. They had the perfect amount of Honey BBQ sauce and the single order was still a great portion size. The only downside of the veggie wings was the texture because some of them were VERY chewy. My main reason for always coming here is for the margarita pitchers. They do the job a little too well lol. You will definitely leave this place feeling good if ya know what I mean.I know its not their fault, but parking is absolutely atrocious.
Drinks are good. We had the margaritas. I orderer Birria Tacos which were great. My friend ordered the Lamb Tacos and they tasted like a chewy hoagie. She bit one Taco and was disgusted immediately. She called the waiter over to send it back and replace it. They would not. They also automatically add a 20% gratuity to your bill which is excessive. There was only two of us and the service we received wasnt worth it. I had a red bull at the bar and that ticket was charged 20%. Another margarita after dinner and an additional 20%.
Be aware! Check your receipt before committing to your desired tip amount, we went to close out and found that we were already charged a 20% gratuity charge on a party of four. The food was good, the service was decent, but the entire experience was not worth more than the 20% gratuity which was already included in the check total.
After visiting and reading reviews, it’s clear the ownership is aiming to squeeze your for all the money they can. 10% COVID surcharge...ok...to who? Our waitress who has been out of work? or just because you think we owe you one? Drinks are over priced. I bought a $16 cocktail and still have no idea why it cost me $16. They charge $4 extra to get (a very small portion) of rice and beans with a meal which usually comes with at most Mexican places. Endless chips? That will be $5 a person (per person!). Not stingy about prices, this just felt like complete disregard for their patrons... and frankly, a spit in the face. 2 star because our waitress seemed like a nice girl. I wouldnt go back.
Food here was amazing, the margarita drink was okay. Not a favorite. The waitress was okay, I know everyone is under staffed and all that… but she never brought us napkins and hand wipes. I had to keep asking/ reminding her to bring them. Germs are still prevalent ppl, and it’s hot outside… Bacteria lives in heat, we gotta do better.
I have been going here since they opened. The chips and salsa recipe has remained exactly the same...perfect. I no longer live in the area so to be fair I can’t really talk about the service or atmosphere. However when I was coming in to dine the waitstaff was always a hit or miss but the bartenders were always on point. We had a bartender once who took 10 orders and didn’t write anything down, they were mixed drinks! Ok let me get back to the food. Nowadays I take to go when I’m in town and the tacos, veggie wings and chips and salsa are all still just as fresh and delicious as they always were.
The misses and I sat outside and I had the unfortunate displeasure of being the only person sitting directly in the sun, so we moved tables and then I sat underneath the speaker outside. My shrimp tacos would have been great aside from all of the CILANTRO - blegh, even after I had asked for none of it. The Mac and cheese was good though.
I give this place a “4” overall - a “5” for the concept and vibe and a “3” for the food. This is a drum, festive place in the heart of the NoLibs neighborhood and has a Mexican/BBQ fusion menu. Again the vibe is great and the food, while not awful, could be better. I got a “bbq mixer” with pork shoulder, pork belly, and sausage. The sausage was quite good but the other two meats were rather dry. The decent sauces saved them somewhat but was hoping for more. We did get jalapeño poppers as an appetizer which were quite good.A lot of potential here, just gotta focus on some of the smaller things q
The food was actually not bad as well as the drinks, what made me give them two stars was the service. First the waiter didn’t write down the first half of our order but wrote the second half because he realized we had a big order. So of course one of my friends didn’t get their meal and we waited 30 minutes for our waiter to come back and he never did he avoided us. He didn’t even com back to check if we were okay. Then when we told him he forgot our orders he looked shocked, then to prove he forgot the orders we got our drinks and half the food. And even after messing up he still didn’t check on us. There was also another women there serving waters and checking on tables she also ignored us and she was doing this on purpose because we were in between tables and she went to everyone except for us. The service was horrible and probably one guy saved the day he was short with blonde in his hair bless his soul but seriously if they didn’t want to serve us they could’ve said that we would’ve spent our money else where. The last thing that triggered me was we ordered one more round of drinks just to give it another chance the bill came before the drinks and the waiter came back quicker for the check and we still didn’t get our drinks at the end of the day go to this play at your own discretion
What a horrible restaurant. Slow, bad service; bland, overpriced food; pina colada dont deserve to be called pina colada. And on top of everything now you have to leave an obligated tip!!! If you want good service this is not the place and if you want delicious food, dont even think about it. I have been here in different occasions post and pre pandemic and its has always been bad always. Save your money and visit any of the many rest at norther liberties.
I love what theyve done with outdoor seating since covid hit, and actually go here more now than I did before March. the classic margarita is bangin, and the food is affordable considering the amount and quality. good to take a date, or your parents, or your roommate, or yourself. great food, great atmosphere. check it out
Agree w/ Shana-Lee Collins Review! I wonder if she is a person of color, because this is exactly how my friends and I were treated. The staff was so disrespectful to us as our group of educators (teachers and principals) gathered for a night out pre-Covid. They wouldnt allow me to borrow an unused chair from another table to add to our party so I had to stand up. The overall service that night was horrific and left all us reeling. We vowed never to return. I attempted to reach out to the managers several times to no avail. No return phone calls to date. One of the staff (person of color) swore he would let the manager know, but I never received a phone call. I never wrote a review, but decided to read the reviews today to see if things may have changed. I guess not...
Frauds and Terrible service. Forgot to enter an entree, delivered it 20 minutes late, still charged us , plus for drinks we didnt buy. Tried to swindle is by including tip (even though the service was terrible!) And yet the receipt said tip is not included!? Not even an apology.
Overall below average. The experience starts with unfriendly staff and poor seating/hosting system.Menu was too big and all over the place. Not sure if I was at a Mexican restaurant or a pub anymore. Food taste was not horrible but below average.Food presentation was pretty bad, I ordered three tacos and half my plate was empty, it looked like it was missing something.Noise level was super high for no reason, couldnt have a conversation.Price was high for the overall experience and food quality.Would not recommend, there are so many better Mexican option around.
If I were writing this two years ago, i would’ve given a 5 star rating. I used to LOVE coming here and always recommend it to others. I’m not sure what happened to this place but the past few times I went it was pretty bad. The first time we had to ask two different servers for silverware because our food came out and there wasnt any on our table. It took me physically going in the restaurant and asking again and by the time we got it our food was cold. The manager was unapologetic and pretty rude about it tbh. After that I came again and there was hair in the food. This was all before COVID. The outdoor seating for covid is nice and the drinks are good. They use iceberg lettuce now on the nachos too for some reason.. ew 😑
I havent been in a few years but tonight didnt disappoint! From the sweet greeter at the door, to the great food, very attentive waiter and waitress in training, and the manager who politely put on my coat before I exited it was amazing! The Friday night wait was totally worth it. Please try the fried pickles and jalapeno poppers. The fish tacos were on point and the new crab quesadilla as well.Im excited to come back and make El Camino a regular dinner spot again.
I treated a friend to a belated birthday dinner & drink. We both ordered the Blue Crab Quesadillas. Delicious! A must try!I feel it was a little pricey for a dinner just for two. For 2 dinners plus a cocktail & a beer came to about $48.00 (not including tip) we added $10 for tip. Because the food was fresh & delicious. Servings were generous. Wait staff & bartender provided excellent service.Parking is difficult when busy.
I just stopped by with my boyfriend for margaritas to go. Excellent quarantine idea! Took one star of because we got take out of pulled pork sandwiches last week that were ehh. Ive been coming here occasionally for many years and thats always a pretty consistent outcome. Drinks here - 5 star! Food - 3 star.
I visited this place once on my birthday, and thought it was gonna be an awesome experience from what I was told by friends. Once there they were kinda of busy so we had to wait for a text when a table became available if I knew this I would had made reservations in advance, after finally getting a table the atmosphere was cool just really crowded that night. They had some good beers on draft and staff was friendly, but the food was not so great to my acknowledgment it was very mediocre and not authentic. Considering there’s a authentic Mexican shop literally up the block from this location, they should be trying to perfect their food quality instead of just filling up tables.
The Tex meat part of the menu is awesome. The Mex part of the menu is so-so. Solid staff and nice vibe. Open for lunch, which is good. Never had a bad time here, but Im not too impressed with their tacos. Still one of the best spots in Northern Liberties given the variety on their menu and very solid service staff.
I wish I can give this place ZERO stars. Im very disappointed with my recent visit here. I have been spending my money here for a while now and mostly for the drinks. Every-time the service has ranged from ok to weak. The food is not as good as authentic Mexican food should be either. During COVID-19 I decided to meet my friend here to drink and snack on something before our next destination. The service was HORRIBLE. I dont even know why theyre even open. When you arrive you have to order and pay online through your phone. You also have to wait in a line and pay cash to get any drink. I ordered a spicy shrimp burrito and what I received was what appeared to be two slim taquitos with barely nothing in it. I asked for the manager to either simply replace the food item with what I wanted or to just cancel my order all together. The manager which was some rude lady, came out to speak to me with an attitude and did not accommodate at all. She said we wont cancel it and if I want something else I can just reorder something else. I didnt pay $15 for two slim taquitos and politely excused myself. This place must be under new management and they suck. That order will be cancelled either way and I will take my money elsewhere.
This was an amazing experience. The food was so delicious I was already deciding when to go back by the time I got home. It was a first date and neither of us had any idea where we wanted to go. We rode by and could smell the food from the street and simultaneously said thats where were going. We go in and were seated very quickly. They had outside seating which was great especially being as though iy was a first date. So, it wasnt too loud. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Danny was our waitress and she was nice, patient, and welcoming to us. I cant wait to go back again.
The veggie wings are delicious - some of the best in the city, but vastly more expensive than comparable dishes at other restaurants. The nachos leave something to be desired (lettuce? I thought this was a Mexican restaurant...). It has a nice vibe to it, and outdoor seating is nice. My experience service-wise has been hit or miss. Have gotten some terribly unresponsive wait staff, and others who have gone out of their way to be excellent!
If i could give zero stars- I would. I found out El Camino was doing take-out cocktails during quarantine- I was really excited. They told me it would be $11 for 16 oz. and $22 for 23 oz. Seemed like a fair price... That was until I showed up to pick it up and watched them fill my 32 oz. container with ice TO THE BRIM. I politely asked the woman who was helping me if she could please omit the ice- and she told me she wouldnt be able to. That she could serve it without the ice.. But that she couldnt fill it up. So thats the story of how I paid $22 for a glass and a half of watered down red wine. While I am appreciative of the businesses that are staying open during this difficult time- I do not appreciate being completely lied to, and being forced to pay $22 for what was MAYBE 16 oz. of actual beverage. A complete rip off. As the great Joe Exotic once said, I may never financially recover from this. I will not be a repeat customer.
They have great margaritas. Ill pass on the food though. Years ago I did like the good then something changed and Im not really into it. They dont have desserts which I would have wanted. Atmosphere is very lively depending when you go, you may have to yell to whoever youre with to hear them.
I love this place I love their corn , tacos , quesadillas & my favorite thing is the pitchers. I went with 3 people our bill was only $90 we all got meals , corn and a pitcher. So with that being said this place is very and affordable. Only thing is finding parking but it’s worth it to me. I’m glad I discovered this spot.
Got here ordered a chicken cheesesteak did not like it. The worst thing on the menu. I explained to management they could not accommodate me at all the manager was nasty so I asked for the head manager no luck with him at all told me to take it home and give the food to someone and that I would have to purchase another meal. Overall horrible experience
The food here is very tasty, with great selection of hand helds as well as traditional favorites. Chips are endless and come out fresh! The choice in margaritas here was also great with a 50% off special for happy hour. Outdoor seating makes this one of the nicer spots in the area.
I live close to El Camino - the short story of this review is I will be back. The food is pretty good. Had some Texas cheese fries - delicious! I also had some chips and salsa, I didnt care for the salsa. For an entree, I chose to get the meat sampler, my picks included brisket, texas brats and short ribs. Perhaps couldve got a bigger portion but was probably better for me in the long run. The meat was pretty good.Service wise the only comment I have is that it was good, but not great. It will be certainly be dependent on your server and time of day... the place tends to get busy.
Live down the street. Asked for a to go Cadillac margarita. My bill was $24.... I bartended for 6 years so I’m not going to take it out on the server or bartender, but to the owners of this place.... Who do you think you ARE charging that much money for a margarita???? Anejo doesn’t even charge that much and I think they’re expensive. There’s a pandemic and people have lost their jobs, true, but even in a pre covid world, $24 for a margarita is disgusting. Will never come back, will never recommend.
Food was amazing! The atmosphere was also very chill! Was my first time here and i will def be back! The mojito’s were very tasty! Was greeted at the door with a smile and had fantastic service from the waitress salena who made sure me and my friend were taken care of!
Group of six on a Saturday night. We were seated 30 minutes earlier than we expected (awesome). Put our food in about 10 minutes after sifting through the menus and getting a round of margaritas and chips. 40 minutes later my quesadilla comes out -- cold. 2 more people get their food which was like warm. Last three people get their burritos hot. We had no silverware or napkins when we sat and had to ask twice to get them. Server was nice but was clearly very busy. Food was enjoyable though.
This place is pretty decent! I never have a bad meal here. Sometimes the seating is not desired... But, if it is Summer, seating outside is good! (Ideal for people watch lol!)Top yummy things are: Brisket, fries and the Texas cheesesteak. Certain drinks are good too.
Solid brunch! I was very pleasantly surprised. Showed up around noonish Sunday and was seated immediately. Half price bloody Marys (they are HOT! Let it water down for a few minutes and drink) and mimosas. Delicious french toast and large portions. Will definitely be back soon.
Along with a fun decor, this place has a decent tap list and they make a darn good margarita. Its reasonably priced and made well, not sugary or light on the tequila.I ordered the brisket burrito which was slightly different in that it came out in two flour tortillas. Absolutely delicious. I wasnt as keen on the black beans and rice- the rice must have been sitting out because it was quite dry. The endless chips and salsa were amazing though. Instead of being overly salty, the chips had some sort of paprika or other spice on them which gave great flavor. The pico de gallo was fresh and so was the tangy salsa verde. I loved the smoked flavor of the pico. Our waiter was attentive and we didnt feel rushed out even though it was a busy Friday evening. Next time Im trying the fish tacos!
One of my favorite places in northern liberties. Been going here since they first opened and theyve only gotten better. Complimentary chips and salsa is always on point and the margaritas are great. I had the daily special this time which was a crab quesadilla. It was one the best quesadilla Ive probably ever have. Would highly suggest trying
Low quality, poorly prepared food. A microwaved burrito would have been more appetizing. Veggies on plate were moldy and the burrito had everything but fresh ingredients. Places like this have to be called on their low quality food. Typical trendy spot serving bad food and hiding behind their location and decor. They should stick to overpriced drinks and stop making people sick from their ill prepared food.
Good prices. Bartender was very knowledgeable of liquors and helped us pick out a new tequila we hadnt tried before. Only downside was that it was very very busy and loud and therefore we decided not to stay for food. I would like to go back on a less busy night to try out the menu.
Third time here and as always the service and food is amazing. They work with Yelp and give you an estimate wait time along with the parties ahead. And text you when your table is ready. Depending on what time you go, you can walk around and explore the area a bit. The waiters are very nice and was open to menu questions. Was ready to fill water at all times and was near by any time we needed something. The food was brought out in a timely manner and as always hot and delicious. We ordered three very different dishes and all were made to our requests. Dealing with the check was smooth and fast. I learned the last time I went they DO NOT TAKE DISCOVER CARD. Not sure if this is still in effect but would like to worn people. Packing up leftovers into a cute little brown box and if you have alot of leftovers or ordered food to go, they give you a brown paper bag. Im pretty sure these items are recyclable so thats very nice. Overall a great experience with chill music, if you sit in the back with theTVs, they have movies playing. (We saw beetlejuice, awesome!)
This USED to be my favorite spot. They have gone DOWNHILL this past year. This is more of a hang out spot for the employees. Ive waited at the bar and door with no acknowledgement on separate occasions. Workers and managers are too busy socializing with one another. Recently I ordered take out and they overcharged me because they added things to my order that I never asked for. They charged me $4.00 for chips and salsa which is normally $1, AND I NEVER even ordered it. Their meals have changed, they have become stingy with certain things. I ordered a chicken enchilada with barely any chicken sprinkled on it. I called to let the manager know about my experience but they were not available. I was told they would call me back and they never did. They OBVIOUSLY do not care about their customers anymore.
While there for my birthday on the 24th of February 2020 I was having a great time and enjoyed the service until I saw a handicap man with one arm and no legs get out of his chair and get on the dirty floor and lift his chair up the step so that he could go to the bathroom. I was appalled that he had to do that multiple times throughout the night because the only way to access the bathroom is to step up one step to get there. A ramp is not expensive or hard to construct and put in place for your wheelchair bout customers. Im more than positive that is not the first person in a wheelchair to patronize this establishment. PLEASE FIX ASAP
Everything was either too sweet, or too salty. My fiancee and I also felt like there was no alcohol in our beverages; my mojito was all syrup, and her margarita was all puree. Lastly, the shrimp in her fajita was so over cooked it was like rubber and had shrunken so small that the 5 on her plate couldnt even make a single fajita. All in all a very disappointing experience that left both her and I wondering what exactly we paid for. We will most likely never try there again.
Well, lets see The waitstaff B was an excellent Server. The Big Winner was the Yummy Guacamole. We got some to take Home. The Chicken Burrito was ample and delicious. The Shrimp Fajita was Good even though they only had 5 shrimp. Be Careful of Skillet Handle. The vegetables were cooked just right. Nice and carmelized. We loved the Sangriarita it was very tasty. We had a pitcher. It is funny I live in California, chips and salsa are on the table immediately, and Free, here You have to pay for it. We did not try it because we had the Guacamole. My Uber driver said Salsa was tasty at El Camino Real.
Fantastic food for a BBQ lover. The variety of styles of comfort foods is something to be admired. Very close and lively atmosphere which is perfect for those customers who like to feel as if they are dining in a friendly atmosphere where the possibility of making new aquantances is high. Reasonably priced for the city and the drinks are as well.
Dont never use yelp live wait list. The restaurant said they dont use it but yet after we put our name in person we got the same text message from the yelp wait list. Food took awhile to come out even for chip and salsa, but more like pico de gallo. It was $2 a person. Most restaurants you can get it for free. Charge $4 for rice and bean with tacos, most places come with it as a side. Overall the food is pretty good but since they nickel and dime everything and the service was soso, especially the host. Dont think well come back. Plenty of other restaurants to try
The food was phenomenal which makes me disappointed to rate 2 stars because the service was very off. The gentleman that seated us strictly said that our legs could not be in the pathway but allowed many others to stand in the way, we ordered signature drinks that they said they had ran out of which is very upsetting because those drinks are the highlight of the establishment. I felt the server was angry with us because we asked for things that had already came with the meal which is unacceptable because we are paying customers and the whole reason the business is running is because of their customers. Unfortunately, I will not come back here nor will I recommend anyone to.
Great Mexican restaurant . Great experience. Wonderful service. Would and will most definitely return. Advertisements are true as to the services that are provided. The cost are reasonable and either at or below the market rate. They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with the service provided and will do whatever possible if for whatever reason you aren’t to make things right.
El Camino has improved .The food is fantastic now.check it out you wont be disappointed.8/28/20El Camino for me as gone to the dogs. There is no customer service training at allThe drinks are definitely over priced and watered down.the food is now blah. Its certainly a difference in treatment of African Americans. I went last night and my girlfriend and I decided that we will no longer support.theres work to be done to improveI certainly feel like that wont even try.i can and will spend my Hard earn money someplace else.
I am giving this place a 4 out of 5. Place has an good atmosphere, the staff is very good. The waitress that served us made a few suggestions to tryout. Their strawberry margerta with sugar on the rim is to die for. The bread pudding smore is a must have. The Down side was that our server touched our food with his hands when he was asked on what dish he was serving us. Other then that good place to go during happy hour and to have lunch.
This is by far the worse worse worse “Mexican” food I’ve ever had honestly I’m not quite sure what kind of restaurant they are trying to be they need to stick to tacos, perfect it, then move to adding other items on the menu. The shrimp quesadilla only had one shrimp perSlice, the Mac and cheese had NO SEASONING, over all a bad experience. If I couldGive this 0 stars I would. Bloody Mary’s were delicious!!
Amazing. Im from out of town and went for a friends birthday. It was a Saturday night; the place was bustling. The wait was about an hour, but the food made it well worth it. Quesadillas were AMAZING. Margaritas were strong yet very tasty. We had a really nice waitress who stayed on top of things, even though we had a pretty large party of about 12 people. Reminds me of Nacho Mamas in Baltimore/Canton. Next time I go back to Philly, Im definitely coming here.
Im giving this place five stars for a rainy day brunch at 12pm atmosphere. I do, however, get frustrated in the evening for dinners with friends because for some reason it gets SO LOUD in here and its unbelievably difficult to hear anyone talk. It has to be the echo or something because Ive been in some really crowded restaurants (worked in some really crowded restaurant/bars) and this place just always surprises me with how loud it gets. On to the food, these are the BEST VEGGIE WINGS IN THE CITY. Ive had my fair share. I am NOT a vegetarian and I love basic buffalo wings, but I would choose these veggie wings over chicken wings any day of the week. Their burritos and nachos are also very solid, mac and cheese comfort food also amazing. The classic margs are a BIT sweet for my liking, but they pack a decent punch which is always appreciated.
Ordered the pick n peel shrimp as an appetizer and it came out looking really great - big bowl of steaming broth with good sized shrimp, shishito peppers, onions, etc - really looked good. And then we peeled the shrimp and were overwhelmed by the smell of ammonia. Cant possibly imagine how a kitchen would not notice the smell of these things. Wouldve been a terrible couple days of food poisoning had we eaten them. The manager took them off the bill without any fuss. Also had a quesadilla with mushrooms and spinach, which was just ok - kinda Wawa level ok. The honey chicken was great, though listed as boneless but still had a few errant bones in it. Best part of the meal was the $3 endless chips and salsa. Both salsas were fresh and bright tasting, the chips also fresh, not too oily, good seasoning.
The margarita tastes like a mix of sugar and nonsense. Hardly can tell its an alcoholic drink...servers were nice but management was not friendly nor accommodating.I want to like this place due to location and that I generally love mexican food but they have a lot of improving to do when it comes to the service part of the industry.Ill take my business to where they know how to make a margarita and/or are willing to give a poo to make it right.
Went in on a Saturday night as a party of two. There were tons of tables open both inside and out, but when we asked to be seated the host said the kitchen was backed up so they werent seating tables and that it would be a 45 minute wait at least. I laughed out loud and said there are open tables, but she refused to seat me and wasnt apologetic and didnt offer to take my name. I then went to the bar and ordered a drink and chips and guacamole and to bring them outside to one of the 10 open tables. Caught attitude from the host about that as well, saying it wasnt allowed and that I would have to wait to be seated. I told her she had refused to seat me so I would take care of myself. The manager backed me up, but told me if I wanted anything else to come back and order at the bar. Literally ridiculous. If your kitchen cant handle seating the full restaurant then take out some of the seating, or add more staff. It was a Saturday night at 9:30 in Northern Liberties, was it really that shocking that theyd busy? Head down the street to Dos Segundos.
This place has been my go to home spot since the doors opened. Spacious with great energy from a staff that works like a well oiled machine and always make you feel welcomed. Great drinks (blood orange margarita in mine...😋🍹),. A huge Tex Mex menu that will have you patting the belly and smack’n the lips...😋 This is my home base!
I use to like this place but not only is the service hit and miss, so is the food. Last visit we waited a while for our server to come back. He couldnt see to get our order right or didnt. We even had to asked for 2 glasses twice but never got them before we left. Just know what youre getting. Unfortunately, I dont think Ill be back unless Im forced to.
They are charging a 10 percent surcharge for Covid! I can see maybe 2 percent , but 10? And they do not tell you about it! This should be illegal! What they didn’t sanitize before ? And the food was not good, small portions and they didn’t even clean the table ! So where is this money going ? HORRIBLE!
Really gone done hill. Been in neighborhood since 2015. Rarely go cuz bad service and mediocre food. But its gone done hill . Chips awful with seasonings ( only need normal chips with good quac or queso) , but instead they try to fix bad product with seasoned chips . Our bartender was cool tonight. Saved the evening, but rare
Awesome margs but double check your checks the server charged us 2 instead of 1 pitcher .Also they dont take cards unless it has a chip ..fyiI love this place and come here everytime im in the area and not once had i been double charged . people check your checks before you pay a bill .
So disgusting. I ordered the cactus burrito & my veggies were drowning in cold vegetable oil. The drinks are good but I defiantly would not recommend the food. My boyfriend also said his fried and pulled pork tasted like they had been sitting around for a couple hours.
This place service is terrible. They have bad attitudes. I ordered for pick up and got my food as soon as it was done. The fried pickles I ordered were soggy and too greasy I called and spoke to heather the manager who refused to refund me or remake my food bc this is what happens unfortunately when u order for pick up and don’t pick up with 15 mins which I told her I did picked up the food immediately and I asked her to check the time and then she said she couldn’t look up the time and it didn’t even matter bc she wasn’t going to refund me or make me a new order unless I paid again! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
I have visited El Camino Real 4 times in the last 2 months. Each time the quality of food gets worst! It used to be very good few years ago. Probably new cooks? Im sure its still the same ownership. They even fail to deliver fresh and tasty salsa. Servers are very nice though!
By far one of my worst experiences here. I’m shocked and at the same time my taste buds are still having disgusting flashbacks. On a Friday night the wait wasn’t bad but the experience was not good. The bartender made my Mexican Car Crash drink with what tasted and smelled exactly like slimey old lemons all sunk to the bottom of my glass. The Mexican corn the waiter sold me literally had to be sitting in the window for a whole day because the sauces on it were so dried up and the corn still on the cob was actually mushy even tho the outside part was brown from the grill.... Also, the hostess sat me and my date in the back where it’s clearly a half night club back there. So with that being said, potentially El Camino Real Restaurant could learn & ‘move on’ from these infractions within the business because I wouldn’t wish this experience on anybody at all. Will I be a returning? Issa NO for me dawg *in my Randy Jackson voice*
I wish the staff was a little more friendly, some of the food is good but I mostly go for the margaritas. Most of the time I go in there, the staff seems annoyed and one night I called to see if they did “to go” orders and the woman who answered was unpleasant and hung up the phone without saying goodbye uh okay rude.
Super disgusted ahah I got home from ordering my take out. I ordered Shrimp fajitas and when I opened the bag my fajitas were everywhere!!! UNWRAPPED. No foil no box no paper just in the bag along with my other order of quesadillas. Food was good tho. Horrible service
Below average food. Took 45 mins to get to the table. Argued that I didnt have a mask on after waiting almost an hour for a take out order.Word for wordDont speak to me without a maskIll do my job with my mask, when you do your job serving food. . ..You need better customer service skills . You already took my tip out and labeled it covid . . But I wouldve have tipped even more if certain employees were respectful...To the owners/ managers, you know EXACTLY who these employees are . Do us all a favor and get rid of them . .
I just left there for lunch well what was supposed to be lunch. The barmaid was very rude after having to ask for a drink (because she totally ignored us sitting there for 10 minutes) she stated she was coming, but proceeded to take someone elses order (who came in after us). To add insult to injury she was also our waitress once we were seated. We (7 of us) ordered salsa and chips, she brought out one plate with chips and a small serving of salsa. We had to wait another 10 minutes to ask for plates for the chips and salsa and when asked to bring out plates she again was rude and made several gestures with her hands while talking. I usually enjoy my experience at El Camino, but today was terrible. I dont remember her name but the waitress/barmaid with slightly curly wavy blonde hair has made me not want to return to El Camino anymore. By the way I never ate lunch because I left after the second time she was rude.
Tried this place out because I was in Fishtown with four friends to see a show. The waiters seemed nice, but our waitress had a bad attitude. I didnt eat an entree, but my friends said that the food was ok. Had an iced tea with chips and salsa...Ive had better salsa other places. Not impressed.
Dont come here on a slow Saturday! Took two tries to get our food, and waiter was too stoned to remember what we ordered. Forgot my wifes drink both times, too! Good food, terrible, terrible service. And a free round of drinks doesnt buy your way out of a terrible review!
This was the first (and so far, only) restaurant Ive visited in Northern Liberties. I was treated to this restaurant by a friends family and let me just say that after visiting El Camino Real, many of the other restaurants in the area have a lot to live up to.We had to stand awkwardly in the entrance way to wait for a table to open up, but we were seated within five minutes of arriving and our orders were taken immediately afterwards. The servers were very courteous and polite and had no problem taking multiple orders in a very short span of time. The quality of the food was far better than I had ever expected. One order of the homemade nachos and guacamole were more than needed for the five of us seated at the table and they were very, very tasty (if not a little bit on the spicy side). By the recommendation of my friend, I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was by far the most delicious thing I think Ive ever eaten at a Tex-Mex restaurant. The chicken inside was prepared very well and the ranchero sauce on top added a nice creaminess and paired well with the cheese inside. The only problem would have to be how crowded and loud it was -- but for a Saturday night at such a seemingly popular restaurant, I didnt expect any different.I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice night out with a young, friendly atmosphere and great food.
Ordered food for pickup and headed over when I got the notification it was ready. Turns out another delivery driver took my order by mistake since they just leave pickup orders sitting out for anyone to take. Took them about 20 minutes to establish that they were going to re-make my order and another 40 for me to receive my food. So I got to stand there in the restaurant for an hour. On top of that, they got my order wrong the 2nd time. Never going to this place again, waste of my time and money.
Let me start by saying the food was really good. But, the service was trash. We came in on a Saturday night in 19 degree weather and freezing. We specifically asked the host not to seat us by a door. We were sat by a door and directly under a vent blowing cold air. Then the waiter greets us and we ask if there is any way we can move or turn the vent off. She says we should go ask someone at the front because she has no idea.Moving on, we order our food and my boyfriend asks for no onions on his wrap. The food runner brought him his food. He asked the food runner if it had onions on it and he told him no onions. Behold, a ton of onions were on his wrap but he didn’t want to send it back because we already waited too long for the food.Moving on, he asked for a sprite. The waiter brought him a sprite then when she came to refill our water, she poured water in the sprite. He asked for another sprite and when she brought it, she gave it to me and not him. Not I mention, a dirty look as if he didn’t need another sprite.Food was awesome but the customer service may deter me from coming again.
Not only was the staff very unprofessional but the food was horrible.. there were no eating utensils available for outside eating there also were no napkins available. When I asked for some I was given an attitude. It wasn’t even busy!!!!! The Area is a 5 star but this restaurant is a ditch.

2021-12-27El Camino Real catered our wedding over the summer of 2021. Manager, Josh, was thoughtful and responsive throughout our wedding planning during a pandemic. Once we secured an outdoor location, El Camino made our park restrictions work. The food and drink were delicious. The staff was generous and so so kind. Thanks for making our wedding possible!

2021-12-29Their drinks are deliciously flavored. They have a great menu. I ordered the Nashville chicken which can be on the high spicy level for some.. it was a flavorful level for me. Parking is pretty hard in this area, but consider parking at the ACME. We chose to sit inside, but the outdoor seating is pretty well insultaed with warmth if that is a choice for you.

2022-01-25This wasnt my third time at El Camino however this was my best time at El Camino. The last few times at this establishment I always order the shrimp tacos because they are really delicious. Whenever I order the shrimp tacos I get the Spanish rice and black beans along with itI didnt know that they sold seafood on the menu until I actually had time to redo the entire menu. El Camino as a well-known Mexican restaurant in the north liberty section of Philadelphia. The servers are always hip and well spoken and really cool. The menu is very large but yet easy to read. The bathrooms are always clean and smell good. While here I order the prince Edward Island muscles with sausage. The muscles came in a very savory Tuscan like broth with tomatoes, onions, parsley, and cilantro. They were really tasteful and huge! The broth was absolutely delicious. I was completely stunned at how good they actually were. I highly recommend these mussels, maybe even two orders lol. If you ever find yourself in Northern liberties wanting some great Mexican food please check on El Camino and tell them Shimmy sent you!!!

2022-06-30Love this place!!! You cant go wrong with anything on the menu, its all insanely good. Dont cheat yourself and make sure you get their wings, theyre immaculate!! They most definitely have one of the better happy hours in the city which features: $3 tacos quesadillas and bottles of select beer, $4 select Draft Beers, $5 Spirits and ~margaritas~, and to top it off 1/2 price wine. The atmosphere is always great and the decor on the inside is on point for sure! Definitely try it out if you havent!!

2021-10-10We were served by a blonde young woman named Jill, Came in as a table of 5, only 2 people received the correct food first try. Waited over 20 minutes for Mountain Dew. Sent back a taco salad 3 times and ended up settling with the 4th one because I was fed up. Another person at my table ordered a taco salad that also had to be sent back multiple times. Staff treats you as if you are incompetent. Had to ask 4 times for sour cream after order being returned countless times. Overall highly unsatisfactory serviceUPDATE25 minutes later, we’ve been out of water for roughly 30 mins now with still no Mountain Dew and have yet to be checked on. We’ve been talking loudly trying to alert the server that we’re ready for our check for over 10 mins. Do we need to start breaking the plates to receive service? Also, why is the 20% gratuity added with no debate or regulations for the staff to maintain? Don’t understand why a good server gets 20% when someone can ignore their table and still receive 20%

2022-06-15Very nice set up restaurant, went with my wife and we felt the fajitas platter(no matter which meat option) should be more of a traditional fajita order with meat and peppers sizzling to your table and not on a bed of rice which takes away from the Fajitas Flare. Aside from that the drinks were very good(strong)!! And staff was nice as well. A lot of seating space which is great if youre going as date or in big groups.

2021-06-05Every time I visit Philly I make sure to stop here for food. The margaritas are absolutely phenomenal and the food is even better. I tried brunch for this visit and the breakfast taquitos were absolutely amazing. Service here is always on point and sitting outside is a must!

2022-05-01Amazing service from my bartender Avery! On a slammed Saturday night she was able to take my order olus 4 others without writing anything down. The drink was made to perfection. The food that came out was piping hot and came within 10 minutes of ordering. Great atmosphere, great staff, and amazing food.

2022-06-28Fantastic place. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Tons of drink choices. Great selection of beer. Food wise there are so many great choices....you cant go wrong.Like most things in the city finding parking is the only seed bump.
