My husband and I were greeted by three very friendly helpful people. Answered all of questions. Took samples home to try had to come back and order what we found we liked. Picking up tomorrow can’t wait. Thanks Harold, Avery and Jess. You’re all awesome. Thanks againJoy and Tim.
1. granite faucet and soap cuts were terrible, faucet won’t even fit so they have to come back out to recut so it can fit. 2. the salesman came out and measured the cabinets himself. they messed up on the cabinet on top of the fridge and i was forced to pay half the cost of that cabinet to get the correct measured cabinet. highly recommend just paying the extra cost and going to home depot or lowes. avoid empire!!
Warning: DO NOT BUY YOUR KITCHENS FROM THIS PLACE. This was one of the worst sales experiences of my life. I ordered cabinets on December 30th and they never showed up until the middle of March. When they finally arrived, we realized, that the manager/kitchen designer didnt order 12 feet of cabinets but only 11 feet so we had to wait another 8 weeks for another cabinet. (He knows he made a mistake but he didnt do the right thing and admit it.) When I asked why the cabinets were late and if it happens all the time, both the manager and owner told me no. They lied. It happens ALL THE TIME. That is what i was told by a stone cutter and another customer who had the same problem. But wait, it gets worse: we also purchased a granite counter top from them. They gave us a card for Granite Works, and said that they would cut the stone for us. It took us six weeks and countless phone calls and emails to even get a phone call back. Imagine, 6 weeks to return a phone call. The manager of Empire said he reach out to them a couple of times, that could have been a lie as well, and still no response. I asked for a refund for the granite so that we could find someone else who would actually cut the stone. They refused. Store credit only. Ok, can I use my store credit for the cabinet I had to order because your designer screwed up. The owners answer: Im going to report you for harrassing me. Really, harrassing you because Im asking for a refund? After everything went wrong with the order??? First: who was she going to report me to? The refund police? lol. We did about a third of our kitchen because we were doing other major renovations to the house. What business owner gives up another $20-$30K dollars worth of kitchen cabinets by refusing to refund $700 after all the trouble that they put on us? Answer: Someone who shouldnt be in business. Instead of worrying about getting customers in the door, why dont you worry about taking care of the customers who do come in. Word of mouth is still the best form of advertsing.
‼️ DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALER ‼️ My husband and I purchased our kitchen cabinets through Empire & it has been a HORRIBLE experience. We met with Harold (the “store manager”) & he placed our order in June. We had our cabinets delivered to our home & when our contractor went to install them, they were the wrong color!!! We had ordered off white colored cabinets with a darker “ginger snap” color for our coffee bar and island as accent cabinets. ALL GINGER SNAP WERE DELIVERED. We immediately called Empire to speak to Harold (who is almost always unavailable - how he could BE the store manager is mind blowing to me) & when he finally spoke to us, he acted completely shocked as to how we ended up with an entire kitchen made up of the wrong cabinets but said he would figure out what happened. He eventually blamed Yorktowne Cabinetry & told us our cabinets would be RUSH DELIVERED IN 2 WEEKS. WEEKS went by & still no cabinets. NUMEROUS calls were made to Empire & when we asked to speak to Harold, naturally he was not available but yet was the only one who had information about our cabinets. HORRENDOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. One of the few times we actually got to speak to Harold, he told us to write a letter to Yorktowne explaining our hardships & he would forward it to them to see what they could do. I sent him the e-mail & we were ignored. I took it upon myself to reach out to Yorktowne who said they were correcting the issue but that they were only a warehouse and the money had to go through Empire. BACK TO YOU HAROLD!!! (Who, again, was not available to speak to us) At one point, we asked to just cancel the order & give us our money back because even thinking about giving these people my money made me SICK. & we were told “that’s not possible”. How so??? We were given multiple dates of when the cabinets would arrive so it was impossible to keep our contractor in the loop so he had to find other jobs in the meantime. When our cabinets finally showed up 6 WEEKS LATER...they were brought to us by a man in an unmarked pick-up truck & open trailer who had his 9 year old son asleep in the front seat. They sent ONE MAN to do the job of two or more considering they had to unload the right cabinets & take back the wrong cabinets. My husband had to HELP the man load and unload the cabinets. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL & A TOTAL OUTRAGE. & to top it off, they left one cabinet we had to order separately at the store located an hour from our house....AFTER my husband called Harold to make sure that the separate cabinet would be brought down with the others. My husband then had to drive allllllll the way out there for the cabinet which ended up being 21” instead of 24” like we had asked for. WHEN DOES THE NIGHTMARE END!?!?? Now our contractor is busy doing the jobs he had to find while our cabinet issue went on for NUMEROUS WEEKS and we are going into the 3rd month without a kitchen. Empire has FAILED to rectify the issue and provide customer satisfaction. Please do not give them your business. We ended up going to another company to get the CORRECT size cabinet. More $$$ spent & Empire could do NOTHING to assist us for our financial and emotional hardships. We spent WELL over $10,000 & they couldn’t be decent enough to compensate us AT ALL. Disgusting.
Ive had nothing but good experiences at this store. All the employees, especially Luis Jimenez, have been courteous, knowledgeable and happy to spend as much time with us as we need. We have already purchased flooring, lights, countertop, a vanity and other bathroom fixtures. Windows, doors and a kitchen are on the list, as well. My contractor and I are very happy with everything we have purchased and the prices are great. I cant imagine anyone having a bad experience here. Their holiday parties and 25% off nights were fun, too.
What a nice surprise to find all the bathroom reno needs we wanted. From sinks, vanities, flooring,showers,toilets,wall coverings , plus a list of contractors and design ideas from their design specialist. Their prices are much much lower than the big stores. I cant wait to get started on my new bathroom.
Ive been working with J.R. in their kitchen and bath department and hes been an absolute professional in every aspect from the initial concept ideas to the fine tuning of the actual design layout. Chad in the kitchen department has also been very helpful under crunch time circumstances as well! Overall Ive been very pleased.
Empire has the right products at the right price for anyone needing DIY supplies. I recently bought two vanities after shopping at various retailers. In fact, the staff at one of their competitors were total aholes! I should have simply gone to Empire in the first place as they had what I needed at a better price and loaded it up for me within 10 minutes. In addition, the staff is friendly and courteous. Outstanding work, Empire!
Im not sure where these other reviews came from. 1 star are you nuts? This place is insane. I wish I would have found it earlier. They have the most knowledgeable kitchen designers and are way ahead of their time but below anyones prices. The owners are so friendly and have hired such an experience staff. This is a great find for Berks county!
I purchased $1000 of hardwood flooring from Empire. I asked to examine the planks first and, upon opening the box, I saw that many of the pieces were quite short. Johnny Challenger, the salesperson, told me that each box contained (on average) about 20% shorties (i.e., planks 2 or shorter.) He said that the high rate of these shorties in the open box was luck of the draw. When I balked, Johnny said, Dont worry. You can use them in the closets. I told him that I only had one closet, which he ignored as he repeated the same suggestion. He said I could come back and buy another box or two if the plank lengths werent to my taste. When my contractor began to lay them, he noticed that about 60% of the planks were shorties. I wouldve had to buy roughly $600 more hardwood to make the floor look passable.Empire has good product and low prices, but the salesperson misled me and the company would not give me a refund for the unopened boxes. To me, thats HIGHLY DISHONORABLE.
Ordered $30,000 worth of cabinets under the impression they were real wood painted acrylic. When delivered I come to find out that they are thermofoil painted acrylic. I wouldnt of even payed half price for this type of cabinet. Very low quality. I was told by my salesperson Geoff that they were wood and outstanding quality. I called and spoke to the owner and without even letting me explain...was VERY rude and unwilling to work with me to help solve the problem. NEVER order from here. Very poor quality cabinets and HORRIBLE customer service !!!
If you like wandering the aisles at Home Depot then this is the place for you! Vanities galore, sliding doors, windows, rugs and furniture, granite slabs that can be sent to the fabricator, kitchen cabinet door pulls, mirrors, hardwood floors, LVP, laminate carpet toilets sinks faucets and furniture all at discount prices with great knowledgeable staff members !!!
Incredible selection, quality products, but what stood out most was the customer service. The helpful, knowledgeable staff was second to none. I was welcomed by Jonny, whose assistance and insight guided my decisions on my current renovation. I was wholly impressed by his dedication to the customer and his scholarly understanding of products and my particular project. I would recommend Empire to anyone undertaking home improvement projects and look forward to returning.
I will give —5 if that’s available. I order my cabinets back in beginning June 2018, they gave me end off June arrival. I got those end of July. Anyway I can understand sometime it’s busy. They came but half no rollouts for my cabinets . It’s almost October still waiting for them . Worse customer service. Never going to recommend to anybody.
Empire had a great selection of quality name brand products.Their staff was very welcoming when entering the store. TheEmpire Rep that helped us was Anthony and he was extremelyknowledgable about the current selection in the store as well ashaving detailed product knowledge. I would recommend family andfriends to visit Empire.
Empire surplus has greats deals when it comes to making your property unique, they offer a large variety of products , dont miss out stop there first before you go anywhere else. See Harold and Sarah and tell them Joshua Abraham the Realtor referred you and they will take care of you .
Doing home renovations and not sure what to expect. I was very pleased with the honesty and patience from Anthony. The numerous products found at Empire is very overwhelming but Anthony has been very helpful in helping me to make the right choices. The window selection is top rated and I am very pleased I went with Empire.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Daughter went there asking about a vanity...no one helped her for 20 minutes so she left...I then called about it...guy said they were getting them in...I asked can you tell me when...he said hold on...I waited on phone for 20 mins...I hung up called back different guy said give me your info Ill have him call you....never called. My husband then called the next day...they said they would bring one in from their warehouse and itll have his name on it on weds....well weds. came... we sent my daughters boyfriend to get it...was not there and nothing in the computer about it at all. Should shut this place down. HORRIBLE IRRESPONSIBLE UNPROFESSIONAL....shouldnt even get a star from me.
After 3 years, this is my testimony. I bought a house and decided to do a full renovation on it. From the hardwood floors, kitchen cabinets, sink and bathrooms. I looked everywhere to find great deals on all of the above. I found empire through a google. search and walked into the store. The employees were very nice and assisted me around the store.Lets start with my hardwood floor: I knew I wanted hardwood flooring, I just wasnt sure what type of wood I would want. I finally decided I wanted a rougher wood, as I was planning on having a lab and didnt want his claws to tear it up. I decided on cherry. Now I talked to the employees and they all said it was better to invest the money in more durable floors for the long run and to go with the cherry. I did. Unfortunately for me, I did not read the small print above cherry which said American. This is actually the exact opposite of a rough wood. It is a cheap knockoff to make you immediately think of cherry wood. I have noticed that in the last 3 years, my floors are terribly scratched and look like absolute S***. This is not to mention the 28 boxes of hardwood floor were full of 6-7 in pieces. If youve never put in hardwood before, this is the most frustrating concept as you have to put a lot more effort into the entire installation. Disappointment 1.Second: I bought kitchen cabinets that were already put together. My cabinet to my island was installed and observed to have a faulty slide to it. I contacted empire and they completely deflected and said it must have occurred during transportation. This did not occur as later found out. After continued griping and complaining, a empire installer came to my house and fixed it. This was a temporary fix to a real problem. My soft close cabinet looks absolutely horrible and continues to close improperly. Empire refused to compensate me and provided me with nothing but excuses.Third: I bought a stainless steel sink. After 3 years, it is full of rust on all four corners. It is quite embarrassing when friends and family come over.In total:This is the worst financial decision/investment that I have ever made. Always think about why things are cheap to buy. They are cheap to make and will eventually cost you money in the long run. Poor quality items and misdirection by employees left me disappointed and embarrassed that I got had. Good luck for yourself.
I walked into Empire Surplus and was greeted immediately. The store has a relaxed and very friendly atmosphere. The employees couldnt be any more helpful. Especially Sarah...who found me a brand new full length sofa for $75.00. This is my new favorite store. Anyone looking for quality items for your home????I highly recommended Empire Surplus. You wont be disappointed. I wasnt🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We have refereed friends and family and they have all had very positive results with Empire Surplus. We had a great sales associate who was very informative and kind. He lead us in the right direction with our purchases. As stated previously whenever we hear our friends and family discussing renovations, we direct them to Empire Surplus and John C.
They price gouge. $4.50 for a mask and $60.00 for a box of disposable gloves. They were reported to Better Business Bureau. They also have VERY RUDE employees. They said they cant take items back.cause my wife touched them. She had mask of herown on. Employees touch items with no gloves and masks on. Very rude comments made to my wife and we are persuading legal action against them. Get the message HAROLD..
Whats a girl know about home remodel? Was thankful to find informative and personable assistance from Anthony! He was able to make sure I understood the differences between brands and products. Looking forward to working with him again when Im ready to roll with my home project. Thanks Empire - and Anthony as well!!
Extremely dissatisfied with their promises and customer service. We ordered quartz countertops for our kitchen and after the delivery date came and went, we got the run around about where they were. After many phone calls on our end, we come to find out that they never received the shipment and probably wouldnt for another month. At this point our cabinets were already being installed. I asked for a refund as we paid in full. Its been over two weeks and I still havent received it. In the meantime, we scrambled and got a granite countertop from another company which has already installed it. We didnt even receive an apology. I would NOT ever use this company!

2021-11-19Stay away from this business we ordered a entire kitchen in the beginning of May with a delivery scheduled for the first week of September. We made many calls to Empire home center to get a delivery date but they were no help finally they gave me the delivery company and I called to find out a delivery date something they could and should have done but the problems don’t stop there. One of the cabinets was missing and the filler panels came in the wrong color again I called Empire immediately and they said that they would call the manufacturer and call me right back they never did so I had to make more call to them to find out when the replacements were going to be sent they would take days and many calls to get ahold of someone. This was holding up my kitchen. The final straw is that I asked them to find out when the replacements were going to be sent and they gave me the 800 customer service number for the cabinet manufacturer and said that they couldn’t get a answer from them and that I should do it. I called and got a answer in 10 minutes I guess buying a $18000.00 kitchen isn’t important enough to make one lousy phone call. They are more than happy to take your money but after that you are not worth their time.

2018-01-14My experience with Empire was quite a journey. Communication was poor none the least. I started an kitchen remodel and it was difficult throughout the entire process. From the installer starting the job, communication throughout the job occurring, issues after issues with employees, workmanship and process was difficult. Going with the higher grade cabinets and being assured from the sales associate with the better quality of not just cabinets but also service was far from it. The orginal installer was first bragging how quickly the job would be and foul language used while installing. Cabinets coming damaged, replacements taking 8-10 weeks after orginal install. Once installed the quality was so pour and when speaking with management the attention to detail was so horrid. When bringing it to their attention it seemed they didn’t care less. I have attached pictures of the orginal work they found to be satisfactory until multiple attempts to show employees the job is not done correct. This is a short synopsis of the event that occurred. Spending over $14,000+ you think communication, workmanship and quaility would be a higher priority for this business and company. I would not recommend and would take your business elsewhere.

2021-07-06Bought my flooring here about 2 years ago. That tavern grade sure is tough to install but it came out really nice. Visited just recently and the selections not quite as good as it was then but Im sure it will improve with some time.

2021-02-23Empire Surplus was very helpful with my outdoor kitchen project as well as my Pizza Shop’s remodel. They were able to recommend and design our outdoor kitchen using a product from NatureKast. For my Pizza Shop, both the price and quality of their tile and granite selection were excellent. I personally worked with Harold and he was very professional and helpful throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Empire Surplus.
