Harpers Tavern in other cities:
It’s amazing you’re still in business. The worst! Constantly turning large groups away because it’s inconvenient for you. This has happened year after year. Our party called more than 24 hours ahead of time and left a message (because no one answered the phone). A message that apparently no one listened to. Your response only validates this review.
We held my Mothers funeral dinner at Harpers Tavern on June 3. We held my fathers funeral dinner there 13 years ago as well as my brothers last March. Harpers is very close to Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Sad occasions but Harpers has always taken excellent care of us and provided superior food and service. Thanks, Harpers for getting us through some of the roughest times and doing it with grace.
Excellent location, never super busy, good food, good service, and good selection of beers on tap/liquors.Only issue is that they are very proud of their steaks and seafood. They closed early the first time we tried to come by, so call before you go if its later in the night.
Delicious freshly cooked food and great service, while enjoying the landmark Harpers Tavern. Quaint old fashioned decorating, makes u feel like ur in ur grandmas dining room. Bbq pork french fries were to die for! Steak salad was great, meat was like butter. French dip was okDefinitely going back! Dont miss this one.
This amazing gem tucked away in the Fort Indiantown Gap was a welcome treat. The food and staff were amazing! From seafood to steak, they have it and cook it right. Friday and Saturday evenings they have prime rib. Full bar and daily food specials. I recommend stopping to see this historic restaurant that has been in continuous business since 1804.
Service was great and the food was really good but took a sour turn with my wifes crab pasta. The crab meat they use is canned and has an incredible amount of shells in them (had our waitress ask how they get the crab meat). This led to her having to pick pieces out with each bite, not a pleasant experience. The dish was good other than that. The ribs I got personally were really good and fell off the bone (only reason this is 4 stars and not 3).I would strongly advise to stay away from the crab dishes until they change their canned crab meat source.
We lucked into having Easter Sunday dinner at Harpers Tavern while on our way back to Ottawa Ontario from Lakeland FL. We didnt have a reservation but they found a spot for us in a very busy restaurant that dates back to 1804!.....and, it is our namesake, as we are Harpers as well!. (which is why we decided to try it out )Reading the history of the restaurant was truly enlightening! The food was excellent and the service as well.Sandy and Sue HarperOttawa Ontario
This is the kind of local place you want to discover. Beautiful location, atmosphere of a historic tavern, with great food-(get the crab cakes! I dont even like crab but liked these-yes- that good). If thats not enough to encourage you to drive 5 miles further than you usually do, consider service that is great and a bar room filled with everybody knows your name vibes- did I mention reasonable prices? They are for the quality and class this place offers. This is worth the extra mile, worth your evening and a local restaurant worth making a tradition.
The pulled pork bbq fries were delicious, and I highly recommend trying the homemade peanut butter silk pie. The attention to detail really shows, down to the perfectly toasted burger buns. Truly outstanding service and a charming atmosphere. I hope we can make it back to Hershey one day to go again!
Super fast service! Such a friendly staff! Everyone smiles at you.. the food was Good.. I ordered the fish and chips and a French onion soup, guys ordered wings, and pork loaded fries.. everyone was happy! Must’ve been good they didn’t even give me a chance to take a pic! Ordered desserts to go.. very affordable!
This place never disappoints! Made reservations 45 minutes in advance. Arrive about 5 minutes early and we were immediately seated. The place was packed but they were wonderfully accommodating. We had drinks, appetizers, salads, soup, and entree all within 40 minutes, each dish timed nearly perfectly to the completion of previous one. The staff was incredible. Every dish we received was delicious. Absolutely top notch. Nothing needed additional seasoning and was cooked to perfection. Thank you everyone who worked to give us such a stellar experience!!!
Delicious food, friendly staff and a beautiful place! Stopped here late night during a roadtrip on impulse. They had a special menu for valentines day. They were very accommodating of single ole me. Gave me a heads up about the special menu and made sure I was comfortable. The food was exceptionally good and everyone, even other customers were very friendly. Definitely would recommend
Food was not anything to brag about an a double absolute bloody mary was $18.00 an I feel the food was overpriced especially for the quality an this was my 2nd time there 2 bloody marys a double bacardi an coke an 2 shots of patron were a little over $60 an then we had food bill also I dont mind paying for good food but not overpriced dinners an drinks I asked about the price an the wairltress told me its $9 for a single an double that for a double cause it was Topsfield vodka but absolute is far from top shelf. Take plenty of money just in case you dont look at the prices or they arent marked lol
Wonderful to say the least. We were greeted by an extraordinarly friendly nice hostess. We had a server by the name of Jack who was attentive and amazing himself. The food was perfect and could have not asked for anything else. Steaks were cooked perfectly, bacon-wrapped scallops as an appetizer were amazing. An absolute must try restaurant. Great food portions for a wonderful price.
The food was pretty good. The Scottish Salmon was awesome and the rest if the food as well. My only grievance was there were reserved spots at the bar which took up the remaining 1/4 that nobody ever showed up for the whole time I was there. Whats the point in saying a spot is reserved if the people never show up... Ill try it again another time. Didnt feel busy but I was not really aiming for a table... 😒
The resterant is something of a throwback and seems like it would have been a way station on the highway back in the day, and the decor is something from the 1970s . With that said the food was excellent. My wife had a filet ordered medium well, so they butterflied it which normally dries out the meat this was still tender. I had the crab cakes and was impressed with the amount of crab meat in them. The vegetable of the day was roasted carrots, however they must have been blanched first (but not. overcooked) and then roasted because the flavor was great but they were not overcooked or charred as roasted carrots tend to be. We did not have dessert, but the service was excellent, the resterant was clean and the staff was, from what we saw, following COVID precautions. I would recommend the restaurant over all.
Lovely historic building with semi-period interior decor. Brief history in the menu, but would like more about the building and restaurant. Bar had a lot of regulars. Bartender, Jess, was very personable especially with the regulars and very efficient. The Cesar salad arrived in about 60 seconds. Lots of dressing and croutons were crunchy. Delicious. The chicken broccoli alfredo was delicious. If I had to criticize I would say the chicken may have been a little dry, but still delicious. Live music started at 6 on a Wednesday. The bar gets crowded around 6 but plenty of seating in multiple dinning rooms.
Great historic restaurant, great food, and great service! The only reason I didnt rate it 5 stars is because there is no changing table for babies in the restrooms. Our server was great though and let us use their upstairs area to take care of our infant son. Would definitely recommend :)
The owner treats her employees like they are less then her. The menu hasnt changed in 7 years. The bathroom is impossibly small and often not clean. Needs new management to give this place the attention it deserves. Claims to be 5 star but struggles with its $5 lunch special.
Harpers is our go-to restaurant for Valentines Day, my birthday and our wedding anniversary. Friday and Saturday they have the Prime Rib, which is EXCELLENT! So flavorful and delicious. And then I always get a crab cake with it that is superb! I always look forward to going there for our special occasions. Always see a lot of the same wait-staff for years and they are efficient with serving. The atmosphere is nice, we have never had a problem and the food is awesome! Highly recommend this restaurant.
Visited for the first time yesterday. Place has an older historic feel to it which is great. Food is pretty good to.Editing a prior post - Prices are quite reasonable for what you are getting. Place is very clean and nice and its Crazy to find a place that can do everything great fromthe pulled pork to steaks to seafood. All around great place!!
Arrived on a Saturday night at 915. Sat ourselves in the bar area at a high top. the owner asked us to clear the table, and then hand her the tip that was left for her waitress. We then waited another 25 minutes to even see a waitress to take our drink order. We didnt get our drinks until after 10.TLDR: The apps we ordered were terrible. The service left me to believe that I aged 20 years before my food came out. Good the prices they charge I expect decent food. Not excessive waiting and garbage wanna be high end food that the kitchen thinks isfancy and is actually embarrassing. This pace is an easy skip for anyone coming through the area.
Upon leaving reviews on other sites, the employees of the restaurant attacked me and of course said I was lying in my reviews. My daughter and I both suffered from all the symptoms of FOOD POISONING!! We did not get it officially diagnosed because we were too sick to go to the doctors. We both shared my crab cakes and her salmon. The crab cakes did have an odd taste but I thought it might be the fillers they used. The atmosphere was lovely and I really wanted a good experience. The waitress was not friendly and very rushed. A waste of an evening I will never get back.
This place was suggested buy lisa @ are hotel the staff was very friendly the services was outstanding the food dont judge me i had the weiner szynal and i have to say it was fantastic the Brussel sprouts w/ bacon were under cooked to my liking they wanted to get me another order but i reheated at hotel room and they softened up price was good for what we ordered some seafood items looked kind of pricey for me my visit was great and i would recommend this place to friends that will be out this way it was in fact less then 10 drive from the casino
We had a large party at the restaurant this week after a funeral. The restaurant lost our reservations. Then when they got us seated were unable to accommodate for a gluten free allergy for one person in our party. Many restaurants have at least one or two entrees that they offer gluten free, this place doesnt. They were rude when we inquired with the waitress who did not take the inquiry seriously either. It was very disheartening as the person with the allergy left the restaurant starving after an all morning processional drive, a service, and burial for their mother.
This is a really nice quaint restaurant. If you are looking for traditional American food, this is a nice place to go. If you want something really fancy, look elsewhere. This restaurant caters to the blue collar population and the local military presence. They are a very friendly staff, and the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quaint, but it is comfortable.
Reserved a room for a large group. The staff was very friendly and on top of everything. The food was very good and the atmosphere was nice.First time there but certainly would not hesitate to go back again and I do recommend this to anyone traveling or living close to this nice Lebanon county tavern. Really close to Ft. Indian Town Gap so if you are there for any reason, keep them in mind.
Deep rich history & a true hidden gem. Decent beer selection, full bar, and our lunch was pretty spot on. Were picky eaters so were not expecting much, but pleasantly surprised. Burger was cooked perfectly, chicken on caesar was very good.Highly recommended if traveling through!
We went there as we were passing through town. There wasnt much around as far as restaurants go, so we appreciated them being there. The historic building was really interesting. Host and server were lovely. The food seemed a little overpriced for what it was, but we realize there isnt much competition around. We ended up ordering somewhat conservatively and spent about $60 for the two of us. The biggest annoyance was we could hear the bartender snort everytime she laughed. It was not a cute snort (like she probably thought it was). It was very unappetizing to hear someone suck snot through there nose and down their throat while youre eating.
Great place for just two people or a group to relax and enjoy dinner or a drink. Perfection from the staff to the food and drinks. There are different rooms to enjoy dinner. A quaint bar area and a lovely covered outdoor deck. This is worth the drive if you are looking for a new dining experience.
Stumbled upon this place when we were traveling through the area. The first thing you notice is the outside of the building. It looks like a quaint little bed and breakfast of years past. The inside has lots of antique decor and is very cozy and welcoming. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and was served in a timely manor. I will definitely recommend this place to others and am planning to stop every time I travel through this area again.
This is the best restaurant in town if you are looking for something healthier than pub fare--which is what everyone else offers. We were disappointed to read that they were not open every evening. The menu has vegetables, grilled fish, salads (the steak salad is great, but note that it comes with fries on top).Good selection of beers on tap.
This historic tavern offers bar seating and a surprising amount of dinner seating. Their service is always polite and quick and makes for a great lunch stop. There are a free beers on tap including a seasonal or two and a nice selection of craft bottles to choose from.
An amazing place literally in the middle of nowhere! Outside of Lebannon PA. A great variety of beef and fresh seafood. A great yellow fin tuna. If your looking for a top wine list this is not the place but passible. A place with a 200 year old history is hard to pass up and quite a few locals don’t even know about it. We will absolutely be back there on my next trip to the area!
First time to this restaurant was last Thursday. Very pleased, great service, excellent food and a very comfortable at home feeling. Only had soup, sandwiches and fries---but you can be sure well be back when we are in the area. Wish it has been a bit warmer outside and we may have sat on the patio.
Food was not good. 2 orders of Wiener schnitzel were so tough that you could barely cut it. One order was replaced, but it was also tough. One person ordered steak, but it was over done and was replaced. The crab cakes were loaded with filler and not great. I doubt we will ever return.
First time there in 12 years. Steak was excellent but there was a guest chef. Robert Irvine.....help needed!! If you go, eat in the bar. The rest of the dining areas are very creepy. I know its 200 yrs old but no excuse for that pink Victorian wallpaper. That place needs some cheering up. Excellent service also!
Omg soooooo good. Not fancy, definitely delicious . Steaks always perfect. Veggies delicious. And the Caesar salad dressing is to die for. Great service (we always go on a Friday late afternoon so i cant say for any other time but I doubt that changes). Drinks are good. Maybe a little pricey, but worth it. (Filet mignon is almost 30, but anyone who likes good steak knows thats not unusual). This is my favorite restaurant. Personally, i think the price is right there with outback and longhorn but the quality here at Harpers is soooooooo much better. Thank you Harpers, never change!
Worst service I ever had from a restaurant. My wife and I were hoping for a enjoyable evening 2 weeks ago and all we got was a rush job, even though the dining room was near empty. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and the meal. No more than 2 minutes after receiving the wine our salads came. We hadnt finished even half our salad and the waitress brought our main course. I asked the waitress why the rush and she blamed the cook. How ridiculous. I waved down a nice young man who turned out to be the owners son. He blamed both the waitress and the cook. He said they have spoken to the cook before about these situations but he doesnt listen. I asked this young man if he ever heard the saying, the tail is wagging the dog? He didnt so I explained the help is supposed to follow the bosses orders not the other way around. I also told him we spent more time with a lunch at Wendys than I did in his restaurant. In addition the waitress tried to overcharge us but the owners son took care of this for us. The waitress never apologized for how we were treated. The food was just ok nothing special for the prices they charge. Actually Wendys food was better. We will never go back to this place and we suggest either should you.
Atmosphere was old and needed attention to cleaning and painting. Server was nice but appeared to be rushed. Ordered prime rib Med-med rare came out well, sent back immediately and received a med rare to Med within 5 mins. It was just ok. Not like several others had posted best ever. But fine. Husband had hamburger ordered med came out well but was good none the less. It was ok for a stop in traveling but I would not make it a point to go there.
We learned from the owner that two of their serving staff were absent due to illness. However, although the entire place was being taken care of by only two servers, we never once felt our service being sorted in anyway. Plus, I really enjoyed the wiener shitzel. The review being limited to 4 stars is because the meal was too come with linguini, but instead served a different pasta.
Add New York strip steak and of course a nice vodka on the rocks I would say the prices at Harpers would definitely outclass any five star restaurant. Friends had filet mignon and prime rib and none of us went away hungry. It was absolutely one of the best weekends Ive had did a long time would go back again and eat there anytime I had a chance. I would have no problem recommending it to any of my friends those that are my friends I dont think they would deserve that good of food GoodLife entertainment and all in all I love the smile on my face in a full belly
What a wonderful experience! Chose this because we were hungry and didnt want chain food. Harpers Tavern and Restaurant is a quaint setting with delicious food in good portions. They even have sweet tea! Our party had the following: the rosemary grilled chicken with roasted red pepper and bacon pesto over linguini, the Philadelphia steak salad, the chicken parm, a cheeseburger, and some appetizers. Everyone was satisfied with their choices! Well worth the stop and a Great surprise for us!
The decor was dirty low light bar feel windows dirty my table was right next to a hole in the wall food was way over priced my sauated mushrooms were bland because there were from a can the stake ok but the bottom of it was hard and a bit charred not a 28 dollar meal the rice was dry there advertise phone number not even in service we had gift card from costco when we went to use them we werent allowed to use the remaining balance to tipe the waiter so we had use the atm there that charge me 2.50 to withdraw just to tip. If you want to go to a wannabe restaurant this is the place for you.
SLOW service, undercooked food, cold fries. Asked to switch tables for a larger party that came in after us. They ordered and were served before our order was taken. Same group was leaving when our food arrived. Medium Well burger came out red and cold in the middle with wilted lettuce. Saw bus boy dump ice from a bus trough into a water pitcher.
Absolutely horrible place....interior was very dirty and dingy....crappy overpriced food that tasted like it came frozen from a box. S-L-O-W service and their ladies room was so disgusting I even refused to go even though I REALLY had to go.....not sure if a drunk customer threw up in there or what, but there was slime all over the inside of the stall, SO GROSS! Dont waste your time with this dump, there are cleaner places to go!
We loved itThe place is historic and gourgousThe hostess and personnel were awesomeOur waiter and his assistant were excellentThe food was so deliciousThe singer entertainer was very talentedIt was my girlfriends b day dinner and I got them to surprise her w cake w a candle and the singer played his guitar and lead the whole restaurant in happy birthday to TracyThats what a great evening

2022-04-14I drive by Harpers Tavern all the time after kayaking and never once stopped. The other day my brother and I just made that spur of the moment choice to stop there after paddling for several hours. We were not disappointed.Menu pricing is a bit more, but the quality is a bit more, but still completely affordable. I went with a Bacon Cheeseburger meal. Let me tell you, this was the best burger Ive had in Lebanon County. I always have my burger done medium and this place delivered a near perfect looking sandwich. The bacon is worthy of praise too, it wasnt soggy or over cooked, just perfect bacon for a sandwich. The roll was soft and tasted great. Our service was quick and our waitress was nice and very well mannered.

2022-06-01This is an old building that apparently has been a pub and restaurant since 1804. It certainly has not been updated in a while. But it is charming. Service was first rate and prices were very reasonable. I got the Chicken Parmesan (which I found in the Pasta section for some reason) and it was good. It was served with a dinner salad, came with a warm roll, salad dressing etc.My only complaint was the the chicken itself was tough. So tough that I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. A colleague of mine got one of the veals and had the same problem so it was either a problem in the kitchen that night, or maybe this is the way they prepare their meats? The server had a hard time describing the vegetable of the day. It was Brussels Sprouts and when we asked him how it was prepared, the question stumped him. Luckily the table next to ours had ordered it, overheard the conversation and showed us that the Sprouts were roasted. It was a good meal and enjoyable service even with a couple of small mishaps and if Im in the area in the future, I will definitely want to stop in again as the menu is quite extensive with lots of options to explore.

2022-06-03We had the BEST EVER experience at Harpers Tavern!! 😀🙏Not only was the food absolutely out of this world delicious--we also had an absolutely out of this world server. She was on top of things & could not have been any more accommodating! I am a BIG tipper no matter what but this server received a 70% TIP!! She was worth every penny & we made sure she knew we appreciated all she had done for us. I am so terrible with names or I would give her a shout out. Unfortunately I cannot do that because I cannot remember her name. 😣There is such a history there & they give you a paper that has all the info from 200+ yrs ago when the first person owned the property. It is known to be haunted-this was my main reason for taking my daughter there for her BIRTHDAY DINNER 😍We both love that kind of stuff. Anyway-I was glad we went not only for the fantastic service but for the EXCELLENT FOOD & to SPOT a GHOST!! My daughter saw the little girl in a dress-running around & playing behind the bar-just prior to me mentioning that a little girl in a dress has been seen by others!! THAT WAS CRAZY-WE LOVED IT! It is a must see place.

2022-06-26The food was great! There were several different items that I would want to order and hope I have a chance to down the road. The special on Saturday was Prime Rib so I went with that and was not disappointed. Very good cut of meat and extremely tasty. I also had a cup of the clam chowder and that was delicious as well! The tavern itself is very cool. Neat rooms and you can definitely get a feel for the history of the building. Definitely will go back again! Shame it took me so long to visit in the first place!

2022-04-25I wish I would have actually had pictures of my delicious burger, but I ate it too fast. 😂 First time vistor. What a great place! Loved the atmosphere, I loved our server, she was excellent! And our party of four couldnt rave about our lunch anymore than we did. Fantastic place. Will definitely visit again when in Pennsylvania.

2022-05-29Always a great time to get some food nearby and change it up. Not my go to place, but nice way to mix it up for lunch. As a dinner option it is probably as close as you will get for fine dining in the area, and it does a good job at such. Great selections on the menu.

2022-06-16The customer service was nice. The waitress seemed to want to push us out at a certain point, but we were not subdued, it was a family get together in which we hadnt seen each other for a few years. There were lots of fries available. I ordered a lump crab meat sandwich which was overwhelmed, from my perspective, by a large hamburger bun. I dispensed with the bun. The crabcake was baked, I think, not bready,, thank goodness, but not a stand out dish either. The food overall was well priced, which was great.

2022-06-04Great service. Delicious food. After an enjoyable first visit here tonight, I plan on coming back regularly.
