As a student working with Dr. Seara- he is very knowledgeable in psychiatry and neurology and cares a lot about his patients outcomes. I was appreciative he took the time to teach about different conditions and medication effects and how it related to his patients in the hospital. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Seara as a physician and a preceptor.
Dr. Seara is an extremely knowledgable physician. He is trained in neurology and psychiatry, which is perfect for the geriatric population. He genuinely cares about the outcome of his patients. He treats his patients in the hospital then focuses on creating a long term plan when they are discharged. I highly recommend Dr. Seara.
Haven Behavioral Health is a great place where your loved ones can get the care and compassion they need. Dr. Seara is very dedicated to his patients and makes sure they get the utmost care. Evidence based care delivered by multidisciplinary team 24/7. Behavior health, medical team, social workers, group therapist working together to heal and normalize life. As PMHNP student I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all members of the team. Thank You Dr. Seara for leading and healing.
Student working with Dr. Seara- Overall, a very educational experience. The interactions may have been short, but each meaningful and informative as Dr. Seara has extensive knowledge of both neurology and psychiatry. Very good teacher of how to apply medically relevant book knowledge into clinical techniques and practices.
My father was treated by Dr. Miguel Seara, whose care and knowledge made a world of difference for him. My father has Lewy Body Dementia and had been previously treated with medications that exacerbated his condition and contributed to his aggression and agitation. Dr. Seara is not only well-informed about the disease and its appropriate treatment regimens, but he is also a compassionate and caring practitioner. He took the time to explain my father’s disease to the family, explaining why his previous medications were doing more harm than good; he explained what would and would not be possible for my father going forward and laid out his treatment plan in order to get our agreement. We’ve worked with other facilities who treated the family as if we had no right to know about or question their treatment plans, so this was a breath of fresh air. Most importantly, Dr. Seara stressed repeatedly the goal of improving my father’s quality of life while living with this horrible disease, and treating my father with respect and dignity. Dr. Seara got my father stabilized on his new medication and stated that he will send a care plan, including behavioral care instructions for his caregivers, to the nursing home to which my father will return. I cannot emphasize strongly enough what Dr. Seara’s treatment for my father has meant to us. A physician who listens, explains, is patient and caring is, sadly, hard to find in facilities such as these. Dr. Seara is all of those things. My father’s condition will not improve, but we’re hopeful that his life living with it will, thanks to Dr. Seara. On behalf of my family, thank you!!
This was my first experience with Haven of Philadelphia. The therapists and techs were very committed to their work. Dr Seara took the time to explain my condition and gave me the right medicine to feel great and appropriate for daily life . This was not my first time in a psychiatric hospital and Dr Seara safe my life ! By giving me the right diagnosis and medicine . Now I’m going home the best ever !!! I highly recommend Dr Seara and this hospital . Thanks you ..!!
Haven Behavioral Philadelphia is a wonderful place for elderly patients with mental health issues. The staffs are compassionate and caring. As a Psych/Mental student that had my clinical experience at this facility, it is amazing to see positive turn around in patients conditions within short periods of time. Also, Dr Seara is an experienced psychiatrist that is always ready to teach new and upcoming clinicians. He always says that my goal is to make you a very good clinician. I would recommend Haven Behavioral Philadelphia for clinical placement for any Psych/Mental health student that is ready to learn because theres always a weekly assignments besides the regular school work.
I was truly impressed by the passion and dedication of Medical Director and Neuropsychiatrist Miguel Aguilo-Seara, M.D., during my psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner internship at Haven Behavioral Hospital. Dr. Seara devoted ample time and effort in his care of patients, while maintaining their dignity and improving their quality of life. He utilized an integrated multidisciplinary “team-oriented” approach, collaborating with other fine health care providers to deliver excellent service to the clients and their families. As a clinician, I am so thankful to Dr. Seara for affording me such an extraordinary learning opportunity.
I was placed at Haven by my school for my Psychiatric Nurse practitioner program. Dr. Seara was my preceptor. I have learned so much material from Dr. Seara during my clinical rotation. Dr. Seara went in-depth on teaching a lot of information about the brain regarding the different psychiatric disorders. Dr. Seara taught us to be future leaders who love what we do in this field. The staffs are amazing, from HR, nursing, and social work. Psychotherapy and music groups were always great. Learning about the elderly population in psych has been a great experience at Haven. Being able to connect with the patients was an awesome experience. I cannot thank Dr. Seara and Haven enough for this experience.
I was fortunate to do my preceptorship at Haven Behavioral Hospital of Philadelphia as a Psych Nurse Practitioner student. Dr Miguel Aguilo-Seara was my preceptor for the semester. He is awesome always willing to teach and very patient with us students. I will recommend Haven Behavioral Hospital of Philadelphia to any student that has a passion for learning about psychiatric healthcare and psychotherapy. Dr Seara and his clinical team are awesome. Be prepared to learn if you are posted there. He will teach you the things you need to be a successful clinician. He will guide you as you follow a patient from an acute psychiatric stage to becoming and feeling better. As a student you follow your patient’s transition as they get better. He will take time to teach you and you will indeed learn. I am giving a big shoutout to the awesome team at Haven Behavioral Hospital of Philadelphia from Dr. Seara, the nurses, social workers, activity and music therapist, and the management team. Thank you all for having me. Thank you 🙏
I have recently left Haven for personal reasons but my experience there was amazing. I grew so much as not only a nurse but as a person. The changes in the past few months in management has been the best for the continued growth of the facility. I could immediately see the changes to staff morale and culture. Dr. Seara as the medical director is very involved and diligently working to tap into the potential that Haven Philadelphia has. I thank Haven for my time there and wish them all the best and continued growth.
When I arrived to Haven I was confused, distraught, and afraid. It was late in the evening thus everything was a blur. Nonetheless, It was an unimaginable experience. Ive always been conscious about my health and only hospitalized once many years ago. But, I must say, Dr. Rai was one of the most attentive soft spoken doctors Ive ever met. He was so empathetic and honest. His presence was comforting because he was so invested in my care. He met with me everyday which eased my worries and stress. It was a frightening experience and no one should have to go through it alone. My social worker was also great. I thank them both for all their help and what they have done. I will recommend this place to anyone who needs a helping hand.
Its hard to give a 5-star rating to a psychiatric hospital since the experience of having the need for one or, as in my case, having your parent committed to one is horrible. But, that being said, the experience here was the best that it could be. My mother has been in three different psychiatric hospitals in two years. She has suffered from debilitating depression, anxiety, psychosis and dementia. Shes been misdiagnosed, overdiagnosed, overlooked and ignored. The last hospital she was in drugged her to the point she was eating potato chips off the floor and did not recognize her own family. From the beginning the experience with Haven was different. At first I was worried. I couldnt visit my mom because of Covid restrictions and it was hard to get information by phone over the weekend. But pretty quickly the head of social services got in touch and connected me to my moms social worker Marian. Marian was kind and thorough. The previous hospitals (St. Lukes in Bethlehem and Sacred Heart in Allentown) seemed to have no interest in my moms history. It was almost as if she were written off just because she has dementia. But Marian and Dr. Seara were kind and respectful to my mom and they accepted and listened to my observations and my moms history. They did not force treatment on my mom or expect her to adapt to a strange and disruptive hospital environment. And heres the proof in the pudding -- a few weeks after my moms discharge, she was cheerful and aware and no longer drugged out of her mind. Shes the best she has been in three years. I truly believe that Haven was an answer to a prayer. I had given up on believing that my mom could be helped, and then out of the blue and in the middle of a pandemic we accidentally found Dr. Seara and his staff. They gave back some quality of life to my mom.
I want to thank Dr Seara for helping me in my most dark moments in my life . He gave hope , empathy , support , education and the right medication. Now I’m going home to my family very stable and with better understanding of my Bipolar Disorder .I highly recommend him to help anyone with mental illness .
I being in several psychiatry hospital for treatment of depression and trauma . Dr Seara for the first time was able to figured out what was my main problem causing my sy.ptoms .He gave me new medicine, special minipress making my symptoms go away . Thanks Dr Seara for your knowledge , caring and understanding . The therapist and group help me too . Now i.going home happy hopeful ,happy and ready to have CBT .I recommend this hospital..
For the first time in 5 years I finally feel that my disease has been diagnosed correctly. In 2015 I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and early signs of dementia. Later I was diagnosed with PSP and CBD, which causes occasional episodes of mania. Finally in this hospital, I found the brilliant Dr. Seara, a geriatric neuropsychiatrist that put all pieces of my brains complex puzzle together (the neurological, psychological and psychiatric). He helped me gain an understanding of what has been going on with my brain for more than 5 years, and my terminal illness, and also was the first doctor to confirm that Im not actually bi-polar, which was a misdiagnosis that had followed me for years. With his compassion, caring, expertise and commitment to put all pieces together, he gave me the piece of mind to keep coping with my terrible disease. Thanks Dr. Seara!
As a physician and professor at Jefferson Medical School I cannot express fully my appreciation to Dr. Miguel Seara for the superlative care he rendered my wife. He correctly diagnosed her problem and initiated successful treatment. In the past she had gone from psychiatrist to psychiatrist many of whom were my colleagues . They all failed to diagnose her correctly. Some recommended ECT which she didnt need. Dr. Seara has extensive training in both neurology and psychiatry which is partially what makes him so unique . He is also patient, focused , brilliant and has the empathy we want from all our doctors but often rarely receive in this day of number games. God bless you and your family Miguel....thanks for everything..
My 86 year old father was admitted for Alzheimers dementia with escalating behavioral problems and agitation, worsening with attempts to treat outpatient for years and later at his memory facility. Dr. Seara immediately assessed problems with his medications and, more importantly, started him on previously untried second-line medications which have made a huge difference. My father is calmer than I have seen him in at least 2 years. Dr. Seara was also able to assist my mother with the best tactics for engaging with someone in late Alzheimers.Except for a few notable exceptions (Beth Ann RN, Tonya RN, PCA Brianna(or)Brittany [sorry!]), the staff were generally not helpful or accommodating.
I want to thank doctor Seara for saving my life .I Was at my wittes end when I arrive . De Seara diagnosis my problem right away , prescribed the correct medications and with less than a week I was back to myself. I own him a great amount of thanks and recommend him to anyone that has problems. He truest a life saver .
Not taking COVID precautions seriously- when asked about it, I was hung up on. Currently there is still an indoor mask mandate for those who are unvaccinated. I plan on reporting to the city.. “patients can wear masks if they want to” follow by “you can go to the emergency room” and a hang up. A follow up call to ask “Hey so what precautions are you putting in place for high risk patients” answer received.. “I don’t understand the question.” What is there to not understand? High risk people who need mental health support and are high risk need everyone to wear masks: this isn’t rocket science. I called to get help and instead found out they have a rude receptionist & don’t care for the most vulnerable amongst us (high risk patients)
I have had 2 admissions to Haven this past year and the staff and physicians are top notch.Dr. Sierra is one of the best psychiatrists that I have met in the past 20years. He is knowlegable caring and compassionate to his patients.I was very satisfued with the care I receuved.Glenn Thomas
I recently completed my Behavioral Health rotation for Physician Assistant school at Haven Behavioral Hospital. I was so impressed by the staff and how much they care for each patient individually. The group therapies offered really allow the patients to engage and heal. The whole team including the Psychiatrist, nurses, BHTs, social workers and group therapy leaders attend the meeting and discuss each patients case which really individualizes care and allows everyone to be on the same page. I learned so much from each member of the team and was grateful to have had the opportunity to rotate at Haven Behavioral Hospital.
For many years I thought I had dementia. I was 58years old when they told me that I had dementia. Dr. Seara geriatric neuro psychiatrist gave me the right diagnosis and explained to me what happened to me for many years. He gave me the right medicine talked to my family and now I am happy and going home. The staff was nice and the groups very helpful. Thanks
Been working at Haven for over 2 years. Within the last year there has been some very needed and positive changes. From a new CEO to a new DSS. Social services works very hard to please patients and assure safe and appropriate aftercare. There are still things that need work and improving (in no way is Haven perfect), but with the right leadership that is presently running things I think that things will continue to improve with time.
I want to thank the medical, nursing and social services staff for the care given to my girlfriend, Barbara. The level of care has always been marked by professionalism, caring and compassion. And a special thank you to Princess Kenney in Social Services. She has always been tireless in her search for the best program of caring for Barbara, both in the facility and beyond. Thanks to you all!! God bless.
I traveled out of town to see my 94 year old grandmother. So I had no prior knowledge of this facilities rules regarding bring clothing or snacks for my grandmother. I was instantly met with a lot of this is not allowed or our policy states this. I asked for a list of the rules and was told by the nurse that I could go online to get the information. I shared with her that my uncle doesnt have access to a computer. Needless to say, the nursing staff that I encountered today (6/8/19/day shift ) on the 5th floor was very unprofessional. The nurse refused to answer my regarding my grandmother because Im not listed as a point of contact. However, my questions were not medical related. I just asked how has she been eating and overall how my grandmother has been. I left this place very upset and feel the nursing lacked compassion during my visit I feel that the owners should be aware of how their staff is treating guests. I will be talking with my uncle to see if my grandmother can be transfered to another facility Lastly, the nursing staff is well overdue for an in service on basis customer service skills.
This is the only place that ever got my dads medications correct. The doctors actually really cared about my dad and were very thorough and professional. They also gave him a correct diagnosis that he DID NOT have dementia as there is a VERY competent geriatric psychiatric on staff.
Recently completed a rotation in Geriatric Psychiatry at this facility. I observed a team of dedicated medical professions who collaborated to provide much needed service to a vulnerable population in the community. There were a number integrated therapies that encouraged expression, creativity, and positive behaviors for patients. The facility is clean and modern and provided a great learning environment!
I was loss, depress ,hopeless and giving up in life .Dr Seara gave me hope by explaining to me what was my problem and give me the right medications .My social worker Karen help me with individual, group therapy to develop new coping skills and housing .The staff was nice . I recommend this hospital .I being in others before and this is one is one of the best . THANKS.
Once my family was admitted. They told me when I called since I wasnt added to her list. Due to the privacy act they couldnt give any information. I was the one who okd her admission. I had to inform them that I would contact the Office of mental health before they went to her and got the ok to add me to the list so I could speak to my mother.I was told the staff would call me back. No one did. So I went to visit mid afternoon. I was told it was two hours before visitation. After insisting, I was allowed to see her. After approximately three days, she was transferred to a medical facility. I called and spoke with a staff by the name of Kelly. I told her I needed to pick up my mothers belongings. I was told someone would call me back. Never happened. I called back two times and asked to speak with the nurse manager. Left two voicemails requesting a return call. He never returned the calls. The staff that I encountered were nice. But the lack of communication with the family and not returning calls is just unacceptable.
I was confused ,depress after my stroke and feeling like giving up of life .Dr Seara a geriatric neuro psychiatry help me by understanding what happen to me and give me the right medicine .Now Im going home to enjoy life . My social worker Karen help me to get the services that I need . Thanks .
This place is shabby, low budget and dirty!!!!! The social worker Karen is just as ignorant and very unprofessional, she doesnt know how to talk with family members. The cnas are ok and i mean just ok. They dont help and try to make the situation any better, just no communication at all with family. PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HERE, i learned the hard way about this shabby, dirty place.......
The food is the worst its not overcooked its over season with salt to the hilt the worst food in the world… They dont take care of the patients the staff let the patients walk around smelling of urine all day and night ...They dont help wash the patience to get them cleaned up they just let them walk around looking like nobody in the world cares about them… I saw a woman cough in her plate food that she had just eaten she was coughing it up in her plate and they came along gave her another scoop of rice on top of what she had just brought up and told her to eat it… The nursing care isnt much better… There are a few staff that care about the patients but they still dont do anything in other words they dont lift a finger to help these poor demented women and or men feel as though they are human to walk around smelling like urine to not change their beds to not help them just let them wander around is just too much ... And I need to mention that the place is freezing cold even the staff walk around with their coats on and they dont bother to help the patients stay warm they just let them walk around in their nightgowns with just socks on their feet when the floors are freezing cold... The worst place in the world do not put your family there !!!

2022-02-09I appreciated the care and respect I received from the staff at Haven Behavioral. It is my first, and hopefully last visit. I arrived highly agitated, frustrated and worried that my sense of mental wellness would not return. Dr. Seara and his students were attentive to my needs-I felt like I was being listened to. Through a trial of different medications, we think we’ve found the right combo. The social workers at Haven are truly special people. Their group sessions were valuable and appreciated. The daytime nursing staff seemed to be more efficient than the night shift. I’m set up with all the appropriate outpatient care, and ready to continue on the road to mental wellness,

2022-02-01Dr. Seara is an great provider and teacher here at Haven. As a provider, his extensive knowledge of psychiatry and neurology provides patients with incredible care. He aims to ensure patients are diagnosed correctly and given the appropriate treatments. He catches the smallest details that most would miss, but are crucial to correct diagnosis. As a teacher, he trains students with an emphasis on creating competent clinicians who will treat and care for patients empathetically.

2021-12-28As a Nurse Practitioner, I have had lot of preceptors but Dr. Searah was an exception. I have watched how things are conducted in this hospital by the doctors particularly Dr. Searah and in my mind has no doubt that this is a place I will love to learn, work, recommend my family members, friends and loved ones. I have seen patients that come to the clinic with no hope, feel helpless and dont know what to do , but on their discharge see the light back in their eyes with hope and plans to help themselves again after treatment. It feels amazing seeing patients recover again, the strategy is simple per Dr. Searah, he views his patients as a whole with love, compassion, respect and empathy. The social workers, activity personnel, nurses and MAs where all amazing, and I believe that is why patients fully recover at the time of their discharge. I 100% recommend this hospital.

Haven Behavioral Hospital ensures that patients get the care and help they need, understanding that each patient is unique and requires their own timing, treatment, and plan. 2021-11-30The staff at Haven is a mixed cast of Characters. The Social Worker Karen Dawson-Haines was excellent, Dr. Seara was good, but I needed more time with him and the medical doctors because I am having trouble breathing. The BHT’s were really a mix, some were great and others were rude and just plain mean. The Nurses and the Therapists were all very good accept for one who yelled at me because I felt sick after dinner. My Mental health has improved since I came to Haven. Karen was great.

2021-11-01As a PA-S, working with Dr. Seara at Haven during my psychiatric rotation was an overall great experience. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his profession, very careful and attentive in his assessments, and has a keen eye for picking up subtle nuances in patient presentations that can have a big impact on care and decision making. He is an excellent provider and preceptor.Entering this rotation, I was not sure I would find it as enjoyable as it was and am now considering the possibility of working in the psychiatric field as a PA. Not to mention everyone of the staff members at haven were welcoming and made me feel as though I was part of the team for years, having only been there for several weeks.

2021-12-15I have learned so much from Dr. Seara this semester. He helped me visualize and understand the clinical presentation of various mental health disorders and treatment options as well as pointed out the precautionary measures that must be considered for older adults. He very patient and also consistently encouraged critical thinking when discussing pathophysiological processes of mental illness. This was a great clinical experience! The overall staff was very friendly and welcoming as well!.
