May be its the COVID-19 that caused lot of restaurants to lose money ,but I will definitely avoid this place next time I am in Philadelphia. The curry was below average, felt it came out of a grocery store prepackaged box, Naan was made well service was below average and the overall ambiance wasnt welcoming.
Ive ordered from the Indian restaurant with the inventive name for two years and never had a complaint (unless you count my aversion to bone-in fish). Try the Lamb Saag: Wonderful. Or Chicken Tandoori: Delicious. The vegetarian dishes, too, are deeply satisfying. And the delivery guys? Delightful. Highly recommend!
I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and it was not only more expensive than other locations, but it was very bland and that is difficult to say about Indian food in general. I was looking forward to trying a new spot since I moved and this was a big disappointment. I’ll just have to pay a bit more for my usual spot.
I went there last night. I have no idea why this place is often empty. I have eaten here at least 7 times and had a great experience every time. The management is super friendly and the food is made to order for every dish. They give me free dessert every night. Last night after my meal the manager asked if I wanted a tour of the kitchen to see how they make the naan and chicken. Gave me more free food. Such friendly people who offer a great setting and product. A secret of Philly.Edit: ordered delivery for the first time. A Wednesday night. I am 10 blocks away and it took about 1.25 hours. Bad service. Adjusting down 2 stars.
This restaurant is doubtless one of the most pleasant place in the neighborhood. Anytime I visit this place I am deeply pleased. They always keep their very high level service and the topmost level of dishes they give. You no doubt will love this restaurant. Very recommended.
From the moment I walked in the door the fragrant spices whisked me off to this wonderful culture. The decor is crisp, clean & relaxing. The service is pleasant & attentive. There is plenty of time between courses for conversation. And the food, oh that food, its simply divine. Every bit of it. It was our first visit & will definitely not be our last.
Went here for Valentines Day with my SO. Found it last minute, turned out a great choice. Good location right off Broad St. Small restaurant, but quick service, friendly service, and delicious food. Decent sized menu, lots to choose from. BYOB, first time trying it. Try the cheese naan. To die for, I bought a second helping to take home with leftovers. Will definitely go back. And as others say, pay with cash. They offer a discount if you do.
This site is my first choice place. Of all restaurants I know I prefere it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to visit this restaurant. Whenever I want to go to a special supper, this place comes straightaway to my head. very good and food and a large list of dishes.trained team, and agreeable mood. In addition to that, the bill is affordable. I praise this place with no doubt.
I cannot recommend this restaurant as our food contained a metallic staple in the non-compressed shape. (Its pointy ends were opened and extended.) Fortunately, it caused no physical damage. The food was not great and not terrible -- much akin to takeout Chinese, except Indian and with a nicer interior to give the impression of a quality dining experience. The service was okay, if ignoring what was served.Be warned, you might masticate and/or ingest objects such as metallic staples! Eat at your own risk!
Delicious food, excellent service and well-maintained restaurant. I often do pick-up and always am greeted with a smile. When I do come in for a sit down meal, they recognize me and ask me if Id like my usual order. Food is delicious and not too oily or buttery, and be adjusted accordingly for richness and spice. Excellent date or special occasion dining spot, or even a take-out treat.
Normally, I would say this is a good place. I’ve gotten take out from here on many occasions. However last nights take out was bad. It tasted “off”, like not enough spices and was luke warm when I got home. I knew something wasn’t right but I ate it anyway. I ended up throwing up multiple times in the middle of the night from the food. I will not order from here again.
We enjoyed this restaurant last night. Unlike eating at a buffet-style Indian restaurant, the pace is deliberately unhurried. They take time to prepare the food and they dont hurry you to pay. The place is dimly-lit to evoke a romantic, blue-moon atmosphere with a luxuriant chandelier. We ordered their house specialty, lamb dumpakht, which was very nicely flavored and quite refined. The meats of the mixed Tandoori grill were tender and well-spiced. The Tandoori grilled salmon was perfect. I had the naan with coconut and raisins for the first time and liked it. My friend ordered mixed curry vegetables which was okay. If you want a slow meal in a romantic atmosphere, this is a good place. Just dont look at the big TV screen and enjoy the food at this BYOB. The price is very reasonable and the staff friendly. Ill go back again. Bring a flash light to read the menu if you are no longer a teenager.
“ok indian food... they need to serve their speciality (Bengali food)”We got to know the owner is Bengali and thought they would offer Bengali cuisines in the menu, but NO. we got disappointed. The server was least bothered in serving us. we ordered Dal tadka/ bhindi/ Kadai paneer and biryani. Except for biryani which was nothing but a mix of chicken curry and rice, all were good in taste. We asked for malai kabab in starters but he said it will take 15-20 minutes, so we cancelled that. we talked ourselves that he could have said, 10 minutes and tried hard for it, but he flagged his hand in the starting only. and guess what, our food came after 35 minutes.I even appreciated the food but the server did not even acknowledge my compliment.and yes service was slow too despite there were hardly 5-6 customers. Overall I would say it was ok..!!
This place has good food and very friendly staff. I will say some of the dishes are overpriced given the portion compared to competitors in the area. Regarding atmosphere, Its a well kept and dimly let which is a plus. The downside is its super quiet and small. So if youre looking for an intimate dining experience, its hard to have considering everyone in the place can hear your entire conversation.
Great restaurant, friendly staff, tasty, authentic food with fresh spices (you immediately taste the difference) and nice environment. I prefer to eat in rather than their convenient delivery. The coconut naan (I forgot the name) is excellent.. as is the tandoori chicken. The only drawback is that the fragrant food smells can stick to your clothing. Overall I really like this restaurant and their sister restaurant on 17th and Callowhill St.
I went on Wednesday night on a date with my boyfriend and the place was empty at like 8pm. I have no idea why as its a cute little place, very cozy, and had amazing food. My boyfriend and I love to explore food from other countries and Indian is one of our favorites. Weve been to quite a few Indian places and I can say that this is both of our favorites. I got the Chicken Curry and he got the Lamb Curry with garlic naan and it was phenomenal. The naan was hot and fresh, the chicken and lamb were well cooked and the curry had a bit of a kick but nothing too hot to make in unenjoyable like Ive experienced at other places. The portions were great for the price. We will definitely coming back and I recommend this place for anyone searching for some affordable but authentic Indian food.
The manager looked to be rude. He was reluctant to talk about the ingredients of the food I ordered. He carelessly said, the chef knows whats in and out of the food not me. Then why should he come to take the order? Instead he could send the chef for it. The food was ok ok, not the best.
We went to Center City and was in the mood for some Indian food so we went to the Indian Restaurant on South Street. The waiters were very kind to us! The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered lamb chops, the chicken tikka masala and the lamb dampakht. Everything was amazing and my family and I cant wait to go again!
This is a difficult review for me. I have ordered here several times on grubhub, and the food has always been great. My favorite local Indian joint....but then...a few months ago I got take out, and subsequently got the worst food poisoning of my life! I was sick for 4 days at least, and I mean horribly sick...I lost >10 lbs during the ordeal, ruined my weekend attending a relatives wedding, etc. I am certain I got sick from this order, it may have been the samosa, but who knows? Probably was a fluke, but as far as Im concerned a restaurant only has to get me puking and crapping my pants once before I stop patronizing them. Plenty of other good options on south street.
Ive patronized this business a dozen times and the food was excellent each and every time. Since day one, I have been greeted by someone while entering. Ive dined in & also have gotten take-out. The food was still amazing. Things to try: Chicken or anythig Tikka Masala, Lamb Karahi, Lamb or Vegetable Simosa. Always flavorful, cant go wrong with the above. And its BYOB :-)
Horrible place! Used the order online option on their own website and it said food will be delivered in an hour. I just live 3 blocks away so an hour was a long time but I understand things can get busy. I wait for over an hour, dont get anything. I call the restaurant, the guy couldnt find my order in the first place. Finally, he found it and said it will take an additional hour. I clarified to him that it has already been an hour so he replied he couldnt assure me when it will.be delivered - We have too many delivery orders!. Being plain rude. I asked him if he could do a little earlier than an hour, so he said he is cancelling the order and hung up! Way to go professionalism! The place is always dark, dingy and looks old. Avoid at all cost!
PLEASE go read some YELP reviews before ordering from here... at least for takeout. The delivery guy lied and told me he was downstairs, I work near City Hall so he couldnt find parking right in front of the building and I ended up waiting a good 10 minutes for him to find parking and walk over to me to bring me my food. Didnt help that I was actually having an extremely busy day, so I could have used those 10 minutes. I wish he would have just told me when he was ACTUALLY downstairs. The food was ridiculously bland for indian cuisine - no heat and no flavor. I ordered veggie samosas and saag paneer (what theyre supposed to be known for) and both were extremely dissapointing. The only good piece of food I got was the naan. I will say they have large portions, I got about 3 meals out of the serving size -- but the second 2 times I ate the dish I had to add my own spices and sauces to make it better.
Didnt like the food at all. We ordered chicken shagoti, chicken reshmi kebab and chana masala. Chicken wasnt cooked at all. We gave back chana masala bcz it had too much cardamom in it. Only good thing about this restaurant was the oder of the restroom handwash. I observed that only non Indians visit this place. To all those people - you should consider visiting other Indian cuisine restaurant
We were studying at a coffee shop near by and decided we wanted indian food. it was a nice day outside so we ordered it only set for later that evening, and we were going to take it to go and go to a park or something to sit outside, enjoy the weather, and eat. on our way to the restaurant it started pouring- throwing our plans out the window. We walked in and there are 2 couples in the entire restaurant. We are soaking wet, and we ask if we can eat in the restaurant because of our plans being ruined- they said no. they said they dont do that- despite the whole restaurant being almost empty and the fact that we are paying customers.on top of that, well my chana masala was pretty good, but the mutter paneer we ordered was tasteless.
Terrible order out service. Delivery came an hour longer than they said it would, so took a total of two hours to arrive from the time I ordered it. Totally unacceptable. And no offer of a discount or anything. Shouldve ordered from Tiffin. Dont waste your time, literally.
Indian restaurant, how I love you.Best things about the Indian Restaurant:* Chicken Tikka Masala and they will make it spicyyyyyy* Their garlic naan is fresh and out of this world* Its BYOB* 10% off your bill if you pay with cash* Free desert comes with your bill* They are very quick if you order takeout* White table cloths makes this place feel fancier (and pricier) than it is* Bollywood movies playing during dinner
A restaurant with excellent food and affordable prices. Halal and those who work in it are Muslims .. I like the biryani with meat and chicken. Easy to reach .. You may find parking lots for your car, sometimes the same as most stores in Philadelphia .. Family friendly .. Not crowded in the morning and noon times

2021-12-10The menu falsely advertises the items in the Chana chatt- I got basic chickpeas dumped over lettuce, no onions no sauce. Garlic naan was under cooked with garlic flakes and not real garlic. The samosa was previously frozen and not fresh. Won’t order takeout here again

2022-06-06I was on my walk on South Street and was craving some Indian food. I passed by the restaurant and thought to give it a try. Its a cozy place with plenty of room to sit. I came in around 3 PM on a Sunday, and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. (A good date spot)Service: Superb. The waiter was super attentive and knew when I was ready to order.Food: These are the items I ordered (I will update more when I come back).* Samosa: 4/5. The dough was over-fried, but it was crunchy and flaky. The filling has complex flavors, but they are subtle and need a pinch of salt.* Garlic Naan: 3/5. It was not my favorite. I appreciate the natural garlic in the dough, but the bread lacks a buttery fluff texture and a pinch of salt. It would be great if this dish had roasted garlic mixed in the dough.* Lamb Vindaloo: 4/5. I love that its spicy, and the spices stand out in the tomato sauce. I didnt get any hint of star anise, and maybe this recipe does not have it. The Lamb chunk was cooked a little on the dry side and would be a little better with some fattiness. You also taste the potatoes that have been soaked in the spices of the sauce. This dish needs salt. The spices can only take a dish so far, but it hinders the dish if its not salted correctly. These are my opinion. Please check out the restaurant and give them a try.

2022-06-20Everything we ordered was delicious. Some of the best naan I’ve had in my life. The samosas came out fresh and hot. I recommend the tikka masala, Chicken Dumpakht, and saag paneer. But really everything was good.We had a gluten free member of our party and they were very accommodating. On request, we were seated near the front and they opened the window onto the street, so it was a real indoor/outdoor experience. Great, reasonably priced BYOB. I will definitely return!

2020-09-10The food here (we had the Tandoori chicken and Chicken Tokka Masala) was delicious and worked well for sharing between two. The service was very attentive and there were only 2 tables of 2 people each that sat down.Would definitely recommend trying this place out and I look forward to checking out their vegetarian options next time.

2021-12-13We were wandering the streets on a Saturday night trying to find a place that had any open tables when we stumbled upon this place! Gracious waiter/owner and amazing food! We are Indian food fans and this place had some of the best! Highly recommend

2022-02-03Place has gone downhill. Some basic items are not good like the paneer naan and tikis masala.

2022-03-24I loved the vegetarian dishes. Low fat and homemade like.
