Jacobs Music - Philadelphia in other cities:
Andrew from Jacobs has been caring for my piano for many years now. I am 100% happy with his work. He gets A+ for courtesy, communication, promptness, quality of work.and anything I may have forgotten to mention. I look forward to having him in my home many more times to tune my piano.
Andy is wonderful! He is always on time and accommodating with my hectic schedule. He is very knowledgeable and always has great suggestions to my various questions. He has been tuning my parents pianos for over 10 years and now he helps with my piano as well. Highly recommended!
Andy Sullivan has been my service representative for my Yamaha M500 acoustic piano for close to 15 years now. He has always been approachable and pleasant. We talk music every time he comes. Today he fixed a problem that had been bothering me for a long time. It seems my piano seemed to play too bright and it was difficult to play much softer. Andy applied some liquid to the keys and it softened the sound enough to take the harshness away. Andy does his job well and I have always been satisfied with the work he has done.
Sean S. has been doing a great job tuning our piano for the past year.Very professional, very reliable, and very prompt.I sincerely appreciate the reminder phone call prior to coming out to our home, and the great customer service.Highly recommend Sean and his quality piano tuning service.
Great piano tuning service, have been using them over 10 years. Same representative comes out twice a year and is courteous and able to answer questions or fix issues. Their 2 or 4 tunings per year packages are convenient. We have never missed a tuning because we forgot! We do it twice, once in fall and then spring. Has worked well for us. Price is also comparable. Reliable, efficient and convenient - Cant go wrong with that.
Jacobs Music professional piano tuner, Bob Haymes has been tuning our piano for almost 15 years. He has maintained the tuning and sound quality of our piano to the highest standards. Bob is always prompt and professional and very personable. Our daughter is an aspiring singer/ songwriter and depends on the piano for acoustic recordings in her songwriting. We have always been very pleased with the tuning of our piano and highly recommend Bob Haymes for his expertise and service.
Jacobs Music provides consistently excellent piano services. Jack Haymes is our tuner, he is very respectful in our home, punctual, as well as highly informative about the protection of our piano + tuning etc. The tuning is always perfect and lasts and for someone like me who can’t help but tell notice when it’s off, I’m grateful that they do a good job.
The tuner who comes, Andy Sullivan, is excellent and has been able to address some voicing issues that others could not. Otherwise, Jacobs is like so many companies now, figures, sales, sales strategies, surveys, above all. I did not enjoy that aspect of this company.when I bought the piano, and still dont like it, feeling more bureaucratic than genuinely interested in the piano, the music, the people and the artistry, letting Andy do what he does best rather than having him also attend to office needs and pressures when he comes. The balance is off, just like it is elsewhere when business/office needs and profit dominate.
We have used Jacobs Music for fifteen years to tune our Yamaha Grand Piano. We have been privileged enough to have the same piano tuner, Andy Sullivan, for this entire time. Andy is kind and courteous and always leaves our piano better than he found her. Highly recommend Jacobs Music.
Contrary to the other reviews, I have to speak up and share my own much more positive experience. The Jacobs sales staff (Valeria Vogt! you are amazing!) was sensational. She was professional, helpful, and patient. Yes the pianos are expensive - hello! this is a Steinway store. Ive had experience with their technicians and they, too, are very courteous and professional, obviously highly-skilled. As far as the floor Steinways being somehow less than what other reviewers were expecting, people should realize that Steinway ships their pianos to a high standard of finish, with the expectation that final adjustments will be made specific to the customers preferences and needs once a piano is chosen. These are hand-built instruments that take over a year to finish, and are tailored to your specific requirements. Yes each has its own personality, and that personality can be tailored once a piano is selected. I have a Steinway model B so I can speak on some authority the degree to which each piano is personalized to the purchasers needs - and no I didnt buy my semi-concert grand at Jacobs - but I definitely would in the future. You wont get better support.
We bought our Boston upright piano almost 20 years ago from Jacobs Music. We have been very happy with the service from Jacobs Music including our biyearly piano tuning by John Clionsky. John comes to our home every six months and keeps our piano in beautiful playing condition. John is always on time, respectful, and highly skilled in his workmanship. I always feel comfortable with John in our home. I would highly recommend Jacobs Music for your piano investment. I would also highly recommend John Clionsky, our piano technician, to keep your piano sounding great.Thank You,Linda Balgowan
For a number of years Bob Haymes has serviced my Steinway Model B grand piano which I have tuned twice a year. Bob is extremely personable and weve enjoyed having numerous conversations about music and other topics over the years. He always does a wonderful job with the tuning. I am so grateful for Bobs professionalism, reliability, and warmhearted, pleasant manner and look forward to many more years of excellent service!Karen WightLawrenceville, NJ
My wife bought me a Boston upright from Jacobs about 6 years ago and I absolutely love it. I have it tuned every 6 months, usually by Adam. The visits are always timely and every consideration is made to ensure that the piano is playing at its finest. I highly recommend these guys for purchases and maintenance!
John Clionsky has been my tuner for quite some time. I always ask for him because he is professional, personable, knowledgable, passionate about what he does, patient with questions, and a wonderful human being. If I had a company to run, I would want to hire 25 like John. He is a credit to Jacobs Music. He is never in a hurry, takes time to discuss things and makes you feel very comfortable and trusting of his skills. If I could, I would give John, 100 stars, instead of the usual great five stars. You are lucky to have him in your company.
Jacobs Music has been working with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra for many years, supplying us with top quality grand pianos for use by our world renowned guest artists in both orchestral and chamber performances. They are professional and often go above and beyond what is required. We look forward to working with them for many years to come!
Jan goes above and beyond expectations when she tunes our piano. She asks questions to discover whether there are any issues in addition to tuning the piano. She has corrected a variety of buzzing, rattling and squeaking noises that annoy and distract our pianist. If my son is available, she queries him to identify the specific problem. She listens to his input respectfully. If necessary, she asks him to demonstrate the problem. After implementing a solution, she will have him play to insure the issue is resolved. At times, it has taken a few iterations to solve the problem but being the professional she is, Jan is committed to find a reasonable solution.
Jacobs Music supplied us with an outstanding piano for our recent concert, and their customer service was outstanding! Everything was in place just when it needed to be, and they were so easy to work with. I would highly recommend Jacobs Music for any piano rental needs!
Jacobs Music has always been the place for us. I’ve grown up playing the piano and my family utilized its services and I’ve continued that tradition. We always get top notch service for our piano thanks to Adam. As we are about to begin to shop for another piano we know Jacobs will be the place for us.
The Jacobs Music store at Chestnut street has a beautiful showroom with an impressive selection of grand pianos ( no one minds if you try to play). The sales staff are helpful, friendly and do not pressure into buying. I was lucky to have received assistance with my purchase from Andy Kahn, an accomplished musician, artist in residence who is also a sales associate at Jacobs Music. Andy has guided me with depth-of-knowledge and helped to find the best piano for my son. We felt welcome in this store and we do stop by sometimes to say hi. They have wonderful concerts and music lessons as well.Maria Lerner, Philadelphia
Andy Sullivan has cared for my Steinway upright since I purchased it 12 years ago. I rest assured that Andys consummate treatment is protecting this precious instrument in a way that Steinway would expect. Andys professional approach and friendly demeanor will always be welcome in my home.
Jacobs Music located at 1718 Chestnut St in Philadelphia has been my go to store for my entire forty-four year career as a pianist and classical piano instructor. Valerie Vogt, VP of Steinway and Sons Sales, has guided my students and myself in making life long lasting purchases making music a very important part of our lives. I would not recommend any other company when it comes to purchasing a wonderful piano.Barbara Kornbluh, Pittsgrove, NJ
I dont know what kind of person you should be to be welcomed in there. When I came in (12:30 AM) all the stuff was eating. I asked for the permission to take a look around, and pretty awkward pause was signing me that time isnt appropriate. After that the salesman started asking me what kind of piano I want to buy - grand, old, new ..I dont know yet, just let me figure it out! Let me be alone for awhile without answering for the prime question: HOW MUCH MONEY I WANT TO SPEND IN JACOBS MUSIC.I feel like people just pushed me away.
As we, Dolce Suono Ensemble, wrap up our 2018-2019 season of chamber music concerts, we want to thank our season partner Jacobs Music for providing us with superb pianos and excellent service. Our appreciation to Terry Sikora, Director of Concert and Artist Services, for her expertise and attention to detail. Looking forward to our partnership next season!Mimi Stillman, flutistFounding Artistic DirectorRonni L. Gordon, PhDChair, Board of DirectorsDolce Suono Ensemble
EXTEMELY RUDE AND UNHELPFUL!!! They demand you fill out a sheet of your personal info if youre just looking at the pianos. They get all uppity if you touch the pianos and when I was asking questions I was getting either one word answers or sarcasm. These guys sucks. GO TO TAYLORS MUSIC IN WEST CHESTER. Taylors was friendly, helpful and informative. Jacobs was rude, nosy, and not helpful.

2021-08-30Its been a life long dream of mine to own a Steinway D and thanks to Valerie Vogt and her group at Jacobs Music that has become a reality. The staff is very knowledgeable and spares no effort to assist and give the prospective buyer the time and space needed to make an educated and careful choice. The quality and pricing simply cant be surpassed. Before visiting Jacobs I researched at least 5 piano dealers and by far Jacobs Music surpassed both of these.I cant stop raving about the quality, power, and tone of my purchased 2004 D model.

2021-07-01So thrilled with my tuning! After initially hiring a bad tuner who did an incomplete job and charged a crazy price- I called Jacobs Music and was blown away at the service, kindness, professionalism, and fair prices. They restored my piano, and my hope in good tuners in 2021. Thank you!!

2019-05-21Outstanding piano technician Andy Sullivan has been tuning and servicing my Steinway B for years. He does excellent work in a most professional manner. He is a very reliable, communicates well, finishes work in an appropriate amount of time and is overall a very nice guy as well. About a year ago I had him do a complete regulation and voicing and the piano never sounded so good. It also always sounds better after he tunes it anyway, which is no surprise. Very highly recommended. On a related subject, if you are interested purchasing in a good piano, I highly recommend the Jacobs Brothers store on Chestnut St. in Philadelphia. They have an incredible selection (the best!) of new and used acoustic and digital pianos and the sales staff are extremely knowledgeable and patient.

I am always happy with the tuning.I like Jacob Music’s advance email reminders and the tuner’s text messaging to confirm the appointment. 2019-06-05I had a piano tuner come to the house. He called ahead and kept me posted as to when he would arrive. He was professional, friendly to my dogs which put them at ease and did an excellent job. He tuned my grand piano by ear which is awesome and becoming increasingly rare in this day and age. Fee was reasonable as well. I will definitely use Jacobs Music again and will ask for Robert.

2019-06-02Jacobs Music has provided us service for tuning our piano since Fall 2012. I have it tuned 3-4 times a year and have been extremely pleased with the master tuner, Andy Sullivan. Andy has done wonderful work and we have also had him do cleaning and other, more in-depth, work on the piano to keep it in prime playing condition. (We have a Boston 5 baby grand purchased in June 2012 from Jacobs.)

2019-08-23John of Jacobs Music has been tuning our pianos for about the last 5 years. He used to tune our old one , and did and excellent job, but we upgraded from upright to small “baby” grand. He continues to tune this piano and we would not have it any other way. He shows up on time, every time, and is thorough when he is here. Of course it also helps that he is friendly and low key. Our piano always sounds better after he has finished his work. Before departing , John provides helpful hints on keeping the piano in tune. I hope he tunes our piano for many more years.

2019-07-08Bob at Jacobs music has been tuning my piano for years now. He is a lovely man and has such an ear that he tunes my piano beautifully. Over the years he has taught me how to maintain my piano so that it plays to the best it can especially focusing on how temperature and humidity can affect the piano. We have been fully satisfied with the service.
