La Colombe Coffee Roasters in other cities:
Right in the heart of the city, what a wonderful location! Had some very good and espresso to start my day, bakery looked amazing and upon finding out they produce for themselves commercially out of fishtown I had to pay that location a visit too! Would definitely recommend.
Some of the best coffee I’ve had, so good I didn’t want to spoil with sugar!Kind and friendly staff that take time and care to each customer, and the cafe has a cosy feel to it with a nice atmosphere. Nice views of the city hall square nearby from the front, too!Popular with the local business workers and people passing by, such as myself.Coffee and sweet treats well priced compared with the big name competitors, so I’d favour this place over the Starbucks across the street! You should too 🙂
Best coffee in the area at least a mile or two radius. I’ve tried coffee from about every place in the area. By far this is the best super smooth, low acidity and almost refreshing. This place is recommended, keep in mind the long lines move fast. This coffee is so good you don’t need milk or sweetener at all.
Myself and two of my friends (all young women) went to this place for the first time as we were staying in Philadelphia for a conference. For this conference, we each needed a vaccination card or a negative Covid test within the last 24 hours to attend and be served food. We were aware of policy in Philly and had no issues at any other restaurant we attended. We recognize the coffee shop had signs for vaccinated customers to eat inside, but we assumed that our friends negative test would be suitable for a 5 minute coffee stop (since the hotel accepted it). My friend was turned away because she only had a negative Covid test and told she had to leave immediately. Myself and my other friend were not given the option for to-go coffee, and my friend had to stand outside by herself while we chugged our coffee as fast as we could to be with her. She was harassed by a homeless man while she stood outside and was really frustrated about the situation, especially since every other restaurant was completely understanding. I understand there is a Covid policy, but the ladies at the counter could have been much more understanding and cooperative with the situation. My friend was so embarrassed and the fact that she had to stand outside alone is unacceptable as a young women in a new city (and they knew we were together and that we had never been here — we told them prior to ordering). Very disappointing and we will not be back to any of the locations.
Good coffee at a good price, but I asked for a cappuccino and was served a latte instead. They do not provide wifi, but if you are a TWC or Comcast subscriber, there are nearby hotspots. The seating and atmosphere are not conducive to getting a lot of work done, however. Its a coffee shop for coffee only.
A go to place for the coffee, the staff makes nice coffee and the place stays always clean, only thing that i dont like about them is the seating at the Cafe on their right side...the benches are uncomfortable for me...may be because I am petite..And its a busy place always, so I dont suggest this place to work or read book..too noisy.
This is a great spot to stop by for coffee. If you havent been to La Colombe before then you should really go to their flagship location in Fishtown to get the full La Colombe experience. This is still a very nice spot that I go to regularly on my way into or out of the city. As busy as they get here too, theres almost always room for one!
UPDATE: This location is only okay. Staff lacked knowledge of coffee and unfortunate La Colombe usually don’t specialize and offer light roasts. Got a Guatemala medium roast pour over - was drinkable. The tables and space, sadly, we’re filthy and gross. I used napkins and hand sanitizer to clean the crumbs and residue off my table. For better, clean space and higher quality light roast coffee, visit Elixir, which is a block away on 16th and JFK.Previous post from years ago:Love this place! Nice location, always had good coffee, restrooms clean, employees nice. Only downside is hours - which they stayed open later
Hit or miss depending on who works here. One time I ordered a draft latte, it had way too much foam, (literally 1/2 was foam) which I know isnt right so then I asked if they can remake them. The staff at the time made it sound like its completely normal, when it is not.I know people can make mistakes what not especially if they are in training but please be honest to customers. I know a latte should not have 1/2 foam (Its like saying 1/2 foam is normal for beer).
Simply awful customer service. We ordered a coffee and were waiting off to the side for our Uber to arrive (it was raining and extremely cold outside). The barista essentially kicked us out for waiting inside, even though we were out of the way with our masks on. I was shocked at that level of disrespect. It was uncalled for.
This location is in a convenient place. Service was fast and friendly, and coffee was good. Even though it was pretty busy, there is actually quite a bit of seating. The waves of crowds seem to come and go, but I feel like personally even though there is the seating, it might be a bit busy to work or study here. But, definitely a good place to stop in for a coffee.
Their center city location is right across from City Hall. Tho not as big as their Fishtown spot, the quality of the coffee is still there. While it can be pricey, it is worth every penny you pay. I dont think there is better quality coffee anywhere else in the city! In addition to amazing coffee, the service was excellent. I walked in to a line that surrounded the store and still received my coffee less that than 10 minutes later. They also try to be as sustainable as possible by offering metal stirring spoons, glassware, and only providing to-go cups and lids if you need/ask for them. I cant wait to go back!
I stop at La Colombe for coffee every morning before work. The line is almost always absurdly long but it moves quickly, and the staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. They know the regulars and often go out of their way to have our drinks waiting for us by the time we get to the register because they’re cool like that. I’ve heard people complain that their coffee is too expensive but honestly it tastes so much better than what I get anywhere else in the area and I’m down to support a Philly-based business.
As much flavor and refinement for your coffee as you care to afford to pay, without the lovely burnt, charcoal flavor Starbucks ruins their beans with. Is it worth it? Hard to say. I would argue a good 50% of that cost is a side effect of the word la in its title and its allusion to a European cafe. Nothing else resembles a European cafe, but the coffee does taste good
I come here often when Im visiting Philly and we always stop by after a romp in the Christmas Village. Im not a Starbucks fan so I typically try any other coffee shop that i can find. Coffee is good, lattes and cappuccinos are great as well BUT stay away from the hot chocolate. Overpriced hot chocolate with very little milk and zero whipped cream.
The quality of the coffee is enough on its own to bring you back, but then you are greeted warmly and accommodated efficiently. These folks know how to make you feel welcome, even when the line gets a bit absurd. Some of my friends are dairy sensitive, and they love the recent upgrade of the almond milk used here. Dont even get me started on the pastry selection they bring over from their Fishtown location fresh every morning...
I am normally the biggest critic of any hipster resort such as this, but I really like this coffee shop. Dont get me wrong, it is Philly Hipster Central. You will be served by a man in plaid suspenders who is sporting a 1913 moustache. But what you get served will be a great cup of coffee for a reasonable price! The quality of the coffee brewed here is second to none. I will never go to Starbucks again. I really like their iced coffee!
La Colombe is definitely one of those cafes you can go to and know youre going to get a great cup of coffee every time. Particularly in love with their new draft latte, employing molecular gastronomy science to enhance your coffee drinking experience. Highly recommend. This location is also beautifully large and well situated in the city. Definitely a must go to for a great cup of coffee!
Great coffee, great selection, fantastic service. Baristas here are properly trained and super friendly! Coffee and service are always on point. Beautiful atmosphere, even better coffee!! Candidly, there is no wi-fi -there is an Xfinity hotspot-, And Seating is a bit awkward and uncomfortable! But most importantly, Fantastic coffee, great vibes, welcoming baristas, and the interior is SO cool!!
These people are just terrific. Went in around 6:45 on a Saturday. Not only did I get complimentary cup of hot brown after purchasing a pound but they provided several free pastries which they attributed to them closing soon and needed to get rid of. I feasted on those for days. Top quality place.
La Colombe is a local favorite. I personally -love- the sugar they serve as well as the $2.00 price point. Of the neighborhood coffee shops, thats the cheapest by about $0.16The clientele here is excellent and cultured. They have an excellent selection of coffee drinks. The overall ambiance is one that speaks culture.Cons:~The lighting is very dim and not an inspiring place not an ideal one for reading.~The lines can be long and block the entrance.
They have some of the highest quality coffee drinks in Philly. The china that it is served on is very nice. The have a free water tap with glasses next to it(not plastic, thank you!) to accompany your beverage of choice. The pastries are Parisian quality, delicate, fresh and not with the unnecessary amount of sweetness found in so many products in the U.S. The staff is always friendly, but the location on 19th can often be too crowded with a long line which is why I will often opt for the city hall location. You would have a very difficult time matching this quality in this city for the price. The only downside is no free wifi. Then again, the decor and the setting, with all of the people walking past is nice and inspiring. Keep up the good work!
Would give this place 5 stars but they dont have wi-fi and to make matters worse, they run out of baked goods/certain teas by mid-morning on a daily basis.Located in the heart of downtown, this place is crowded most of the times so it can be tough finding a spot to sit down. It also doesnt help that its right next door to Penn Medical.I have developed a quick affinity for their signature drink: draft lattes--those are addicting. The drink is served cold and has a caramel taste though its not sweet at all. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasnt tried one. In my personal opinion, I love it more so than nitrogenated cold brew served at other coffee shops. Their drip corsica coffee is also good as well and the baristas are efficient in getting you along your way. They have a convenient assembly line once your order is ready with honey/brown sugar/milk/etc. right where you pay. Beats going to another counter to customize your drink your way.
I had to come by when Im Philly after trying it in DC. Pretty sure it was less expensive, which is nice. They have the nitro iced latte on draft, which I lived in DC, and loved equally in Philly, and thats a reason to come here over the many other places one might go. The nitro latte gets 5 stars. Having something so distinguishing is unusual. The staff were okay, not super friendly. They have the most pensive chocolate bars Ive ever seen, of you want to check that off your bucket list. The location is convenient, right by city hall and lots of offices. Its was pretty full on a weekday afternoon, which maybe one small available table, and people seemed pretty hunkered down, so I wouldnt count on getting a seat.
Got a coffee on draft and a cookie. A little disappointed in both the quality and service. I travel to cities and try to find local coffee spots that are unique and great, this one missed the mark. Could have been a bad day. Not awful, but nothing to brag to my hipster roommates about.
Service was fast on a weekday morning. Maybe too fast. My girlfriend is vegan and asked one of the staff if their scones are vegan. Staff said yes so we both had breakfast. Turns out theyre not and she wound up with a bad intestinal reaction that kept her up most of the night. Perhaps this staff member didnt understand the difference between vegan and vegetarian or perhaps next time we should ask do these scones contain any dairy or eggs? However, theres clearly an opportunity here for La Colombe to better train its staff on important dietary and allergy issues.
To put it simply, I live in Baltimore and I have driven here on multiple occasions with the intent of coming here and I dont care what happens after. The cold draught lattes at this place are out of this world good. If youve been considering trying it, stop delaying and just go. Your life is about to get better.
Employee Playlists Sometimes Too Loud and Hard -- helps them get through their day, not necessarily you. Its a shame, too, cause the coffee, food, and people are otherwise all nice. Many cafes are like this, of course, but this one seemed loud even by typical standards.
Im very disappointed! Just now I bought a flat white and draft latte.... coffee was burnt .... time to time you have to wash coffee machine I guess. Your place is my favorite, it was very difficult to find such a great place where you can get yourself a real tasty cup of coffee.
The greatest coffee company to come out of Philadelphia. Todd is a rockstar who knows his beans. Ideal for the people who want a real cup of coffee and not a sugar and milk drink that has some coffee flavor. The pastries are always local and fresh. Try the pure over!
If you’re from 🇦🇺 and you’re thinking you’llOrder a cappuccino don’t order a latte here then you get what we call a cappuccinoFor some reason some places including these guys froth the milk so much for cappuccino it loses the creaminess and you get this gross watery froth on top. Order the latte and add sprinkles and then we’re good
The cashier didnt ask me what size I wanted, and assumingly gave me a cup of Rwanada. I dont frequent La Colombe as much as I used to, but before I left I asked - What size is this? This little girl said 12 oz..... small. I told her I wanted a LRG making it an awkward and wasteful transaction.you never get a second chance to make a first impression. In the morning , not a good experience for coffee enthusiast...at least at DD its eventful.
Yes, they dont have menus. But the server/barista was super friendly and helpful. I asked for a latte, which she confirmed that they made. If you can work up the courage to ask for what you want, then youll be fine. They are very accommodating.La Colombe has beautiful painted Deruta Raffaellesco ceramic cups and saucers. The pattern is now commissioned in Deruta, Italy specifically for La Colombe locations. Ahem, where can I get some?! I may need to go back to Italy and bring a large suitcase just for these gorgeous cups. They add the perfect accent to the décor and ambiance of the coffeehouse.La Colombe is known for their old-school dark roasts and unique preparation style. Theyre very popular for their iced coffee preparation. 16 oz cup filled with ice, hot coffee poured from an urn, double shot of espresso, and more ice. Initially black and very strong. My boyfriend ordered one of their iced coffees and said that its one of the best iced coffees hes had. With a little bit of milk and sugar added, he thought it was intensely flavorful and much more balanced than other brews hes had. Maybe that doesnt say much to coffee connoisseurs but to the average Joe, its decent praise. Besides, La Colombes approach to coffee is not going to be everybodys cup of tea...err, coffee. For me, my cup of latte was the perfect twelve ounces of steamed milk.Space is pretty big although there are only a handful of tables. Most folks take it to go anyways, but it was nice to sip my latte there with a view of City Hall and Dillworth Plaza.
It is my go to coffee spot in my neighborhood. One thing I like about Philly is La Columbe is so close to me now! I used to walk all the way downtown in NYU to go there! Now I can go anytime! And store has unique ambiance. They serve your coffee in cute china and baristas are so knowledgable and attentive. They do not serve soy milk btw.
Anyone who has reviewed my previous comments knows that La Colombe is unequivocally my favorite coffee spot in Philadelphia. Regardless of what the weather is like, or the time of day that it is or any other myriad of external factors that might strike, every beverage served here is phenomenal and truly an experience in ecstasy.
Todd Carmichael has perfected the art of coffee bean roasting and La Colombe is where he showcases his expertise. This shop overlooks city hall, so it can get overrun with suit-types during the day. Otherwise, hipsters tend to dominate the space. There is seating but most of it is utterly uncomfortable. None of that matters because the coffee is rich without tasting burnt. #Philly #CoffeeSnob #Java
La Columbe Torrefaction has the best coffee in town, served by knowledgeable coffee aficionados. You want an excellent cup of coffee in an artsy ambiance just off Rittenhouse Square, where you can watch the world pass by, this is your spot. No frou frou coffee here, just your classic coffee, café expresso, or cappicino made just how it should be. Enjoy!

2021-08-30Kind staff with great pastries and coffee. I always forget you get a free cup of coffee when you buy fresh beans! I got the blueberry tart today and have enjoyed sitting in their nice cafe people watching. Masks are required when you enter but not while you are drinking your coffee.

2022-04-16The coffee is ok. The coffee given to me when I requested for good aroma but not strong did not meet the mark. It was warm and I like it hot. The person taking the order was very pleasant. By the time I added my oat milk the coffee for me was way too cold. The Dunkins coffee guys gave me pleasant hot coffee each time. Price here was not too bad

2022-01-19Now I know the instant coffee I drink at home pales in comparison to the coffee here. Also they have complementary sparkling water on tap.
