I’d bought repair parts from Liberty Bellows a few times in the past (to nurse my eBay purchased accordions along) and always had great experiences, so when it was time to finally upgrade I went straight to them. Ordered on a Monday and it was here Wednesday well packaged and exactly as described. Couldn’t be happier I went with LB!
I purchased my first accordion here in 2020. The staff was very helpful and demonstrated the instruments for me prior to purchase since I was a beginner. There was no pressure during the sales process either which was nice. I also purchased sheet music here which they had an extensive selection of.
The accordion looks and sounds beautiful. The shop helped me schedule a specific time to ship it, and it arrived safely overseas. I looked at many different stores, but once I saw they have a YouTube channel with educational content on top of offering beautiful accordions, the decision was easy.
I had higher hopes for this place but overall it wasn’t bad. I bought a PANjet from them, it came a little dirty, cleaned it up and it looked much better after some polish. I noticed a significant air leak on the upper half of the keyboard, took all the reed blocks out and repositioned and it was fine after, but in taking the accordion apart I found a reed leather and the wire over it bent into the bellows. Also there were quite a few sections on the bellows where the tape was worn out and instead of replacing the whole strip they cut little squares out and put it on all the folds and the tape they used was much wider that what was there so it just looks horrible on such a nice accordion, I would have almost preferred they left it as is. I was told a technician would go over everything before it was sent to me but it just seemed rather sloppy, I was expecting a little better but I would give this place another try at some point if needed.
Im a professor at a large university school of music, and had been searching for a particular model of hard to find Italian-made chromatic button accordion. Liberty Bellows had a used one, which arrived in virtually new condition (not a single of its many reeds out-of-tune, not the slightest leak in bellows, not a scratch on it...), and at a very fair price. The accordion had been very well packed and arrived promptly a few days after ordering. The shops proprietor is extremely helpful and communicative. Im so happy with my purchase and highly recommend Liberty Bellows!!
I have been dealing with Mike the owner since 2013. In all of these years he has tirelessly answered all of my accordion questions. I recently just purchased a really nice Saltarelle Agapanthe from him and its absolutely fantastic. During all of these years from buying my first accordion until now, he has been a gentleman and a true professional. As a professional musician myself, I deal with music and instrument stores all the time. Over the years customer service has suffered with most of them, but never with Liberty Bellows. Mike gave me a fair price on my dream accordion, and never tried to sell me on a more expensive model. He asked important questions on what I was looking for, and truly found the perfect fit. I couldnt be happier with the experience!
I bought my accordion about a year ago, and I love it. It is beautiful, it sounds beautiful, and plays well. Its age adds a vintage charm. The first couple months of learning and practicing were awkward, and some weeks I didnt even play, but now I am at a level that each time I pick it up I have a great time and learn something new.Accordion is really fun to play. If youre on the fence but interested in playing accordion, take the plunge and get one. You wont regret it if you stick with it, and you can trust this store to get you a quality instrument.(I also bought The Complete Method, which feels like an essential for anyone learning on their own.)P.S. For those who embark on learning accordion,Give yourself time. Your body needs time develop the muscle memory for operating the bellows, buttons, and keys simultaneously. Once you become somewhat fluent and playing feels natural, playing becomes a joy.
Excellent customer service. I was given a fair trade-in offer on several instruments that went towards a new accordion. When I received it, it had been damaged and Mike wasted no time in creating a return label and offering to either repair it at no cost or to exchange it for another. I chose to replace it and received my new instrument quickly and in excellent condition. My only wish is that they switch from FedEx to USPS to support the post office.
I am very pleased with the service that Liberty Bellows provided me in the purchase of a used accordion. I live in Santa Monica CA and there is little here in used accordion sales. I wanted a quality used instrument but was concerned about buying one without first seeing and playing it. The videos that this company provides of their used accordions are incredible. They gave me the opportunity to see and hear a large variety of piano accordions of all sizes, makes and models and at various price points. After carefully assessing my needs with what was available, I was comfortable with the choice I made. The instrument came well packaged via FedEx in a matter of days and in excellent working order. I am happy to have discovered Liberty Bellows and would give this business the highest recommendation to anyone interested in all things accordion.
Because no accordion selection is available in my part of the country (North Carolina) it became apparent that I would need to buy a new accordion from a retail shop distant to me. I was fortunate to find Liberty Bellows on the internet, and then speak multiple times with Mike the owner. He is very knowledgeable and helpful, and walked me through the options for the accordion size and features I wanted. His web site is also great - I recommend watching the MSNBC interview video on the site. Also, each accordion is demonstrated by a musician so you can see the features and hear the sound. Mike’s helpful customer service does not stop when you buy - he is still available to answer any questions on your new instrument. I would happily buy another accordion from Mike and Liberty Bellows.
This shop is unique. They have an awesome selection and good pricing. They also have the best website in the industry. If you are traveling, it is especially useful in preparing ahead to choose from so many fantastic instruments. Stas was very helpful. This was our first accordion. He took over an hour from his work to demo the instruments we were interested in.
I spent a few weeks researching and looking for an accordion. I was on a limited budget. I am 60 years old and have played stringed instruments and piano as a hobby for last 50 years. I have a notion to try Musette and Polka style accordion playing. I was looking for a used instrument to start but a quality one. I looked at various online shops, e-bay and Craigslist. The more I researched I quickly found out the risk of buying a used accordion. Liberty Bellows removed that risk. I found there shop last. They were very helpful, instructive, and the online videos of the accordions being played was very helpful. I did find the accordion I was looking for, and it was sent promptly with warranties and a right to return. My advice to new buyers, compare all sources you are looking at by simply printing out and comparing their store policies. Make sure that you get what your purchase, good reeds, good wax seats, good belows, tuned and working. Bellows tight, action mechanics in good order, etc. Make sure you can return if not what you expect. Thank you Mike and all the staff. Thanks for all you do!.
I have bought 4 professional accordions from Liberty Bellows in a 3 year time period. Mike and the gang know their stuff. They stand behind their products and work, and are extremely knowledgeable of accordions of all types and makes. They are willing to work with you and will help you to make a great decision. 5 Stars. They are truly the best accordion shop in the USA. Lets Make Accordions Great Again!!
As a novice to the accordion world, the shop was a little overwhelming with the wide assortment of instruments available. The staff was great to answer questions honestly and thoroughly. It was more like an accordion adoption agency than a music store. We will definitely go back when we are ready for the next level!
Great sales staff, let me play a wide variety of accordions and gave practical advise to help me choose. Encouraged me to buy at a much lower price point than I came in planning to spend. The instrument I purchased has worked out perfectly for me to learn, is in good shape and in tune.
Unfortunately, for me, the experience is highly regrettable. I ordered an accordion overseas, and it was well packaged and came in a good case. Besides that, nearly everything was bad. Within only a couple of months and maybe three uses, a couple of reeds have gone bad. The air value is bad. The bellows have a leak. Ive also spent countless hours trying to fix the several jamming keyboard keys, but the spindle is bad, too. Perhaps worst of all, the accordion isnt tuned to 440, rendering it nearly useless to perform with others. The company rep. gave a little support, but Im still left with a terrible instrument. Perhaps I just got a bad accordion? Nevertheless, I regret to say that this is my experience.
Liberty Bellows is a wonderful store with a fantastic selection of accordions. The staff was incredibly patient and helpful. They had me try out a dozen accordions and made sure I found an instrument that I really connected with. They do great repair work and bring all kinds of accordions back to life. I loved getting to choose an accordion in a place so full of energy and enthusiasm!
FANTASTIC BUYING EXPERIENCE - I couldnt be happier with the helpful advice, great communication, speedy shipping, and quality I received from Liberty Bellows. Im coming back to the accordion after many years away from it, inspired in no small part by the terrific sales, service and support at Liberty Bellows. I searched across the country and found that most sellers, alas, are pared down remnants of once bigger operations from the golden age of accordions. The one gleaming exception is Liberty Bellows in Philadelphia where, astonishingly, accordions seem to be making a big comeback. Mike, the owner, patiently answered all of my questions and helped me settle on an expertly serviced and upgraded vintage Excelsior. It was a big, big help seeing the very instrument I was buying demonstrated in a video on their website. Although its nearly as old as I am, it plays beautifully and sounds brand new -- in fact its the most indulgently and luxuriously wonderful accordion Ive ever played. I am already looking forward to making a trip to Liberty Bellows to upgrade to a new top-of-the-line instrument in the not too distant future. Thanks Mike and Liberty Bellows for a fantastic buying experience.
The store has an extensive selection of used accordions in excellent condition. The staff is very knowledgable, patient, and courteous with customers of all playing abilities. They are very generous with their time, and encourage you to play any instrument in the store at your leisure. An exceptionally good shopping experience!
I just got back my 19 year-old Petosa from Liberty Bellows after a general service. Dorie worked on it, and its like getting a brand new instrument. Its much more responsive, very airtight bellows, and the tuning is spot on. I sat and played for an hour, just enjoying the sound and feel. The keyboard response feels faster than before, and phrasing and dynamics are more subtly and easily attained.Mike was very helpful as well in explaining the repairs needed. I rented a Monarch for a month which suited my needs since the repair took about 4 weeks. When picking up my instrument, I purchased a Hohner soft case--its solidly constructed and has a pocket for music/books, etc. as well as a carrier on the side for a music stand. Backpack straps are very well positioned and it distributed the weight nicely when carried in this fashion.I have been looking for a good accordion shop for years; Liberty Bellows more than met my expectations. I will be back!
Literally your one stop shop for anything and everything accordion related. I wanted a gift for my mother, and Mike gave us a fair trade in value for her old accordion and helped us find something she liked at a reasonable price. I dont play, but it seemed like they have something for everyones style, budget and sound. If you play or are interested in accordions, do yourself a favor and check this shop out!
Staff are extremely knowledgeable and value their customers. Traded in an old accordion for one of those newfangled melodicas, which is absolutely awesome. The store has a variety of instruments: accordions, mandolins, harmonicas, melodicas, and tons of instructional material and sheet music. This place is one of a kind and worth a visit.
Liberty Bellows is more than just a store !It is also an official representative of Weltmeister Germany and offers handmade accordions in Germany, at a high quality and affordable prices!!!That has to say a lot !I seriously recommend, if you are looking for quality and professionalism, to enter here !We personally thank you so far for all the information, tips, recommendations and the transaction made together !We also thank you for your kindness, seriousness, speed and professionalism !All this honors you with great respect !Daniela & Michael,Montréal, Qc, CanadaNovember, 05, 2019
I ordered a used Hohner Concerto Hohner Accordian for $995 plus fedex shipping from Liberty Bellows.. I was really surprised that when it arrived, several of the notes would not play. I called them right away. They explained it had a one week return policy and a six month warranty. I decided to drive over there (a three hour drive) because I was worried I might run into a hitch if they would not accept it back unless it arrived within a week. I was concerned that if they sent a $995 accordion out without checking it properly, then anything was possible. So I drove about three hours to get there. When I was there, I felt that they treated me like I was in the way or something. Like they were too busy. I tried different accordians to get one for my mom, who is 89 years old. That is why I ordered the accordian in the first place. They had to open up the accordian several times. I kept finding notes that wouldnt play, in the manifold of configurations that are possible, e.g., buttons, keys, inhale exhale, and settings. I was almost ready to settle and also buy another accordian, but then the owner spoke to me in a way that seemed extremely rude. I decided right then and there to return the accordian. I reached out the next day, but again I thought the owner was condescending and out of line. He also claimed that the reeds got stuck in between the time the sent the accordian and the time that it arrived by Fedex, dust particles, etc. I dont believe that for a moment. I think they sent me an accordian that was not checked and set up properly. I suppose a lot of shipped accordians get passed on to customers, but I am not sure. It sort of felt like a used car lot to me. That is just my opinion though. I would never in a million years recommend the place. So now I am going to Alex Bell Accordians in NYC. They deal in mostly new accordians. On their Web page they explain that they will treat customers with the finest service. A new German Accordian is not much more expensive. They ship. But I am going to NYC because Alex was so kind over the phone. I may edit this story when its all over. I dont want anyone else to get stuck long distance with an accordian that doesnt work properly. Its all in the numbers, one week plus, shipping, returns, distance, shipping costs, hassles, falling through the cracks. Liberty Bellows does put their accordians on video, which make them look good, but from that you cannot necessarily hear all of the key configurations that may or may not work.Thank you, and good luck.
An unreal selection of refurbished accordions. The staff is really kind and knowledgable, but the owner can be a little rude. Note to owner: If youre trying to share the awesomeness that is accordions, dont be an elitist about it. He openly scoffed at the idea of bringing in my less expensive accordion in to get fixed.
LB did extensive repair work on an old piano Paolo Soprani for me recently. It is a tedious job and a specialized one at that. That said, I paid close to a grand and the instrument came back with a dead reed on one of the registers. Every time I hit that key and get silence - I think of them. LOL Getting an accordion repaired or serviced is not an easy thing in the USA so Liberty Bellows provides a rare and needed service. And reed tuning and repairs is NOT a DYI kind of thing. But when I brought up the dead reed to them I was told I was lucky that was all as one dead reed out of hundreds isnt so bad for the price I paid to have the work done. Eeeeh... huh? Also, the leather bellows straps they installed didnt fit correctly and one came off already. Take your business to Accordion Rose - my advice. Sorry LB - but I have to be honest here.
I bought Bugari accordion from this guys through internet and was actually afraid what Ill receive...but,Im very certain Ive got VERY GOOD accordion that Im loving more and more every day...so HAPPY they were telling me TRUTH and not lies about the instrument,i was even more happy when i looked inside it,its where i was pleasantly surprised everything seemed to be just as if the accordion is brand new and ORIGINAL...this moment was when I thanked God for such a good accordion....THANK YOU MIKE

2022-02-27Accordion stores with true expert staff are exceedingly rare and Liberty Bellows is a gem for this reason. I recently purchased a nice used accordion and had it shipped to my house. The accordion arrived in rougher shape than described, with a few bass reeds not sounding, a sticky key that quickly became a big issue, and leaking bellows. Purchasing a USED, older instrument, I wasnt expecting perfection, but this was rougher than anticipated. I made the 3 hour drive to the shop, dropped it off, and everything was resolved by their expert staff. The accordion now plays as I hoped it would. Im lucky to live relatively close and could make the trip. The shop itself was cool to see. We made a family day of it...dropped the accordion off first thing in the morning, walked a short 1/2 mile to the Historic District to do the tourist stuff, had lunch, then picked up the completed accordion and went home. Parking was easy, its in a great Philadelphia neighborhood. Mike was easy to work with and his staff really knows their stuff. It was annoying having to have the work done, but in the end they did an excellent job and I would recommend them to anyone in the accordion community.

2022-05-22Had to stop by the famous Liberty Bellows while visiting Philly. I went for a gig bag, and they got me a nice new one and threw me an old one for my 2nd box for free. Friendly staff, and just awesome being surrounded by so many accordions.

2022-02-21I wanted to post this review because I had a great experience buying an Accordion here. I live in Florida and went directly to buy a new accordion. My experience was more than I expected, Mike and Stanislav were so helpful in choosing the right accordion for me and I couldnt be happier with my purchase. They let me try as many as I needed. At the same time other employees worked very meticulously on tuning and fixing accordions that they had. The atmosphere was friendly all the time and I must say I went there two days I also took classes with Stanislav that greatly helped me in my learning. I highly recommend Liberty Bellows.

2022-01-17I ordered a Hohnica from here online, and it arrived after just 3 days, which was definitely a plus. However, when it arrived, many of the bass buttons were smashed in, and one of them was so far in it could not be pressed, despite the foam padding on the inside. I did open up the back and adjusted some of the rods from the inside which helped a lot to get most of the buttons back to normal, so now just two of them are a little bit pushed in, but still playable. Its still a bit disappointing because I bought that accordion as new but it didnt really arrive that way, but I guess thats just the risk of buying such a fragile item online, and theres not much that Liberty Bellows could have done to prevent this anyway, its more just an issue with UPS, who probably could have done a better job handling it. Other than that, I am pleased with my accordion and am having a great time playing it!

2022-06-07I bought an accordion here after looking at a whole bunch of accordions on their website. They helped me find one with all the features I wanted that I hadn’t even seen on the website. As it’s a used accordion I had to get it repaired a couple times, for free cause they have a 6 month warranty.

2022-05-13I ordered a Hohner Concerto I, it came in the mail and two keys were not playing well. The accordion description online said fully functional, which obviously is not. I took it to a repair shop and they found reed valves flying around, I still didnt get it properly fixed. I called up Mike at Liberty Bellows and he said they can take care of it, so he said to ship back. Considering I would also have to pay to ship back, then wait the several weeks for it to be returned this is been an overall unsatisfactory experience. I guess I have to ship back now and see what happens. It is such a bummer considering I actually need it to play some gigs i have lined up.

2020-09-15I bought a new Fuselli backpack case (made in Italy) for my two row diatonic button accordion. I could not be more pleased. Sometimes I forget that the accordion is on my back! Yes, it is that good. This is the best thing I have bought in years. Thank you MIke!

2021-07-22Since Im hundreds of miles from an accordion store, I decided to order an accordion online. I liked that Liberty Bellows offered a video preview of an accordion you might like to buy. The accordion shipped promptly and was packaged well. I did have an issue with one of the keys being elevated, and could get no response from customer service. Fortunately, my accordion instructor was able to gently resolve the problem of the elevated key.

2021-03-12Was shopping around for a gently used accordion, and came across their website. Since half of the shopping is actually hearing the instrument, their YouTube videos demonstrating each function of every instrument were very important for me while shopping remotely. They also had the best selection of quality, used accordions that Ive seen. I ordered one. Payment was easy. It took a few extra days for them to tender the package to UPS once the label was created, then UPS added a few more delayed days for no explained reason, but about 1.5 weeks later, the accordion arrived. It was packaged very well - they had custom cut styrofoam to fit. They also put some cardboard inside the instrument to stabilize it, which I had to remove (the provided instructions were clear and simple). I am very pleased with my purchase and would definitely order from them again.Oh yeah...and now Im using their free video lessons on their website, that was an unexpected added value...very good instructions!
