We ate outside near the fire lamps, loved it. The calamari was delicious along with the dipping sauce. The blackened chicken tortellini was everything, they used a tomato based sauce instead of white, good job. The gin cucumber martini was smooth and refreshing. The blackberry margarita was sweet, a good choice to mask the tequila, not weak at all. I sampled the chicken tenders and they were nice and juicy. I gave five stars because the food was good and we had waited awhile to be seated, with reservation made, the owners came over at different times to apologize for the wait. Our server was really good at putting in all of our orders and having things brought out in a timely manner. Great Job!
I thought the food was pretty decent, no complaints on the food. However, I am visiting out of town and I am perplexed by the entire WHITE waitstaff, even the hostess. The kitchen is diverse, but that’s where it stops. Maybe all the Black, Asian, and Hispanic people took the day off? :/ Won’t come back for that reason.
I ordered this from Uber eats when I had COVID. Chicken noodle soup, cheeseburger, and Cobb salad. Broke my fever and felt better from then on. Thank you Marathon Grill! That chicken noodle soup is so chunky and dense. And the cheeseburger was so good. The salad also was quality.
Absolutely, freaking, incredible!!!We, 24 of us, have come to the city from Alaska 🗻to Florida 🐊 on a trip to celebrate our parents 5️⃣0️⃣th wedding anniversary💍. It came to dinner and our original planned dinner failed. 🚫 We were looking for a place that could take us in. It was proving to be a challenge until we got a hold of Marathon 🏃🏼♀️ Grill. They welcomed us in with open arms!As if this wasnt awesome enough 😎, our parents have food allergies and so since they didnt have any desserts 🎂 that would accommodate them, while we were eating, our waitress, Delaney, found a bakery that had some 🍪🍪 that they could both eat for dessert. 😯❤️Our service never missed a beat and the food was truly AMAZING! 😋😋😋It just really made our night and will be part of the experience we will not forget.Thank you so much!
Casual little sister to the Rittenhouse Marathon location. Same fantastic menu, but the seating and the vibe is a little more diner like. I came in with 5 co-workers after a work function. We were shown to a booth, and they pulled over a small table and 2 chairs to allow us to fit comfortably. I ordered the blackened chicken quesadilla. It was large enough that I did not think I could finish it, but tasty enough that I did anyway. The blackened chicken pasta (huge serving) and the brisket were also excellent, according to my tablemates. Service was solid - no complaints. If you are looking for great food, and dont need the fuss of a fancier environment, this is the place for you.
This is my second time coming here and i haven’t been disappointed! Great food with a relaxing atmosphere! Every meal I’ve had here including my friends have all been amazing. The service was a little slow but worth the wait. They also have a great drink selection. Definitely will be coming back with more people soon!
Ordered a business lunch through their catering for the next day, the time comes around its supposed to be delivered and its not here, 30 min, 45 min.. nothing. Called in and they told us they had messed up and thought it was for the next day but it should be there in 30 min. 45 min goes by and it finally comes but a sandwich is missing. call back and they tell us that because THEY messed up and needed to rush our order to us they decided not to tell us that one of the sandwiches was unavailable and was replaced with something of their choosing. Spoke to debbie in catering who was extremely rude about the entire situation that was not our fault at all.
The best thing was the matzah ball soup. The Greek salads were just OK. The dressing was kinda bland and not very flavorful. The lettuce and veggies seemed fresh. My sons mac and cheese was not very good, way too smoky tasting. He refused to eat it and ate the crackers from my soup. Waste of money unfortunately.
First time at Marathon and I was not disappointed. Our waitress Lauren was amazing. Very polite, professional, and checked on us quite often which I like. The food was spot on from the appetizers to dessert. Some of the best Ive had. The strawberry cream shake was the best I ever had. Great environment, great location. If I had to critique one thing is the seating is a bit close. Other than that great place and I highly recommend stopping by.
What a cute place, I loved the earthy vibe. They have ample seating for big groups or just yourself. Open kitchen is visible while standing, I enjoy being able to see the cleanliness of the kitchen. The menu was big so you have many options including gluten free and vegetarian dishes. My friend and I both enjoyed our farm fresh food.
Our food was delicious and reasonably priced, especially for downtown Philly! I was very excited to see an extensive list of dinner specials. The staff were the friendliest people. Definitely recommend! Perfect date spot. Plus they served us very quickly as we were headed to a Flyers game after.
My friend and I came here on a whim for brunch as we were in the area and it was pretty nice. Very casual place and the service isnt bad but it isnt great either... They took away my drink without even asking if I was done.. the food and coffee was really good! Id recommend brunch here
Went there for lunch with a friend of mine. Upon arriving we were kinda standing there for a while waiting to be seated. I understand when things get busy but none of the other employees acknowledged us or told us to wait to be seated or anything. Both the person seating us and the waitress seemed uninterested when helping us as well. We got the sampler which had chicken fingers, calamari, cheesesteak wontons and sweet potato fries. The wontons were good but for some reason the cheese whiz came with hot sauce in it which ruined the experience a bit. The sweet potato fries and the calamari were our favorites. The chicken fingers were really good as well but very filling. We were pretty much full after eating the sampler. Their fizzy drinks tasted like tap water. We ordered the vegetable capellini pasta with added herb roasted chicken and the make your own burger for the main dishes. Both were very average if not below average. The pasta is a good option if youre looking for something light but the chicken kind of dragged it down for being so dry. The marinade however was very flavorful, I just couldnt enjoy it because of the dryness. The burger was also dry. We requested it be cooked medium and while it looked cooked perfectly it lacked any juiciness and the char grilled flavor overwhelmed everything else. I think the sampler might have been the best dish of the day. Very average. We had to wait around for almost an extra hour to get our check and get the payment through. And for some reason they dont take discover.
...been going to Marathon for 25 years, starting back at their original location, but I think this one is my favorite one ...it has a casual atmosphere, like a restaurant and a diner combined, the food has been consistently excellent, the staff has always been professional and very cool, and the prices have remained reasonable ...plus its a great spot for people watching because of the full length windows all around! (they also have outdoor seating)
The food was really good and our server was great, but we sat outdoors because its advertised as having heated outdoor seating. They really need to replace their heat lamps because the ones they had in December 2021 were only affective if you stood right next to them. Fortunately we all had big coats so it wasnt too bad and didnt sully the experience overall.Would definitely recommend it for weekend brunch.
Marathon has been my go-to restaurant for years. Their diverse choice of entrees has something for everyone. And believe me, Ive gone there with some mighty demanding eaters! The food is always delicious, the service attentive, and you get good value for the price. Its always busy (a sure sign of good quality), but I dont find it too noisy. Its homey, welcoming, and a great place for everything from comfort food to salads.Invariably, when Im with friends or family and were trying to decide where to eat, we say, Oh, lets just go to Marathon!
Breakfast on a Sunday morning. I ordered the bacon, swiss & tomato omelette with a salad as a side. A salad! what a great option instead of potatoes! The omelette was delicious and the salad dressing was too. I asked what kind of dressing it was and I was told it was a vinaigrette dressing, it was white, creamy, not heavy cream, dill taste, my son said it was made with yogurt tool! I would buy it if they bottled it! Nice atmosphere, Watched the world go by as we ate. Prices okay. We will definitely return our next visit in town!
Idk about this place. I had to keep adding condiments to the food to get some flavor out of it. I don’t even have COVID The coffee cup with the drag queen lipstick rim was a huge turn off and worse was when the waiter brought the same mug back with the lipstick smudges still left on it! Really dude ? You can’t just get another mug?!?! I’d skip this joint much better places available in Philadelphia
A really cozy and simple place to have some American classics that don’t break the bank. I got the salmon with mashed potato and asparagus, just the kind of meal I needed. The chicken matzo ball soup was divine, as well. They seated me inside immediately and servers were kind.
This restaurant automatically imposes 20% of tip on the bill under the name of gratuity. We’ve been to restaurants in various cities in the United States for a year living in New Jersey, but we met gratuity for the first time in Philadelphia today. It was my first time, so I searched Google for a while and I was a little confused. This is because there is another separate tip space. These days, I usually pay at least 20% to 30% for dinner tips, in fact, the food here was normal, but the service I received from the servers here today was very good, so I was thinking of a 30% tip. However, we left the restaurant because the situation became complicated and felt strange with the word gratuity, which is unfamiliar to me. When I came back to the hotel and thought of the two grateful servers there, I felt a little sad.
Underwhelmed. They may have been understaffed that night, so service was extremely slow. We were given our food 40 minutes after ordering and drinks 20 minutes after ordering. When the food finally came out we all realized we were never given utensils and the server didnt notice either. So I had to take utensils from the adjacent empty table. Apparently everyone else enjoyed their meals, but the crab cake is exactly that, cake; all filler and flavorless. We tipped our server graciously as Im sure most of this was an issue with the kitchen, but we will not be returning.
Very convenient spot for me since I live nearby. I typically order here often or dine in with friends. However more recently my experience has been less than lackluster.1. My fiancé and I went to grab a bite to eat and timed the server. 15 minutes went by and to no avail. On our way out he flagged down the manager and respectfully let them know that we waited 15 minutes and received no service. Had it been a busy night maybe, just maybe we’d cut some slack but it was pretty empty!2. I placed a grub hub order which was cancelled so I called and asked to have my food delivered. First I was told there was a limit on how far they can go. Without even asking how far I live. Mind you, my name comes up when I call and I’m already in the system, as I often patronize here. I assured them I lived 0.4 miles away. They ask my address then put me on hold only to tell me. Due to being busy, my order had to be $50 or more. A bit much but since my order came out to $49 which is quite excessive I was all good. 5 minutes later, I get a call that they only had enough to serve me 1 meal and I had to switch the other meal. At that moment I cancelled the order.Safe to say, they’re losing their touch and potentially lost a loyal customer.
Amazing spot for brunch, clean , fast service and very friendly staff! Drinks were fantastic, accidentally spilled a Bloody Mary on the table and not only did they replace the drink they gave me some seltzer to try to get the stain out of my pant leg! Thank you so much Marathon! We will be back!
This too was a nice experience, this date was with my 24 yr old daughter. We choose to dine outside. The sun was brighter than we expected but a waiter that was not ours camen over to move the umbrella to accommodate our desire to remain outside. Our simple meal was enjoyable as well.
~ It was a beautiful day so I decided to go on a walk-about in search of an outside dining area for lunch. I came across this appealing restaurant with outside tables & huge letters on the side MARATHON. At that point I knew this was the finish line regarding my lunch run.First Impressions: Encased with glass walls, it allows a perspective customer to see inside & current customer to see outside, which adds to the city life magnetism of this establishment. I decided to be seated outside in the shade, the table & chairs were very plain & black, but I was pleased with the view of the beautiful skyscrapers.A waiter came out promptly, & I put in my IcedTea/Turkey Burger/Fries order in(pictured), & informed him that I only had 30 minutes to eat lunch. He responded no problem sir, your food will be out in 10. To my surprise it was..The first bite of this burger was beyond scrumptrulescent. The CRISPY applewood bacon was the salty combatant to the sweet apple slaw & apple mostarda. The smoked gouda clung to the wheat bun to hold everything together for each bite of blissfulness. The fries get an honorable mention for their crispiness, but nothin to call home to mommadukes about.Recommendations: The burger patty circumference was not comparable in size to the buns, thus being left with a 15-20% bun excess. The outside table & chairs seemed like they were missing something, maybe a more decorative look or splash of color. The Don approves of this establishment & will be back ~
Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. Pancakes were delicious, the service was disappointing. The restaurant was empty, and in the middle of my meal the server just handed me my check, and did not offer me another drink. I was actually planning on having 2 more, so I didn’t quite understand why she felt obligated to bring me a check in such an empty restaurant. Suggestive selling on slow days, turn and burn on busy days. Rookie mistake.
The atmosphere is wonderful for the area and the seating was quick, but the food was lacking a flavor, we had to ask for sauces to add something to be desired. We tried the Salmon and crab cake sandwich (crab cakes being the best of the two). The salmon flavor was strong and being a costal person that isnt a bad thing but I need a little more than that. The wait staff was FANTASTIC and neve kept us waiting and always was on point. I wasnt sure what to expect but I hoped for a little more when it came to the food. BUT this isnt a criticism of the kitchen but more of how they are instructed to prep the food.
A group of us went here for dinner. Easy walk from the hotel. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. We each had a different plate. I chose the Pork Chop special. Wonderful presentation and taste. They offered fruit for dessert which I also had. We ate here because we were basically tired and a little lost. What a nice surprise! The food was good. I especially enjoyed the option to have them make a salad with just the ingredients I like! Very reasonably priced. Pleasant and quick service. Would definitely recommend. Nice way to end our day.
We had so much fun here and great food we went there 2 days in a row on vacation. The service was excellent our waiters name was Conner and he was quick, informative and all around just a dedicated employee.... Dont see this a lot anymore....Defiantly a must stop and sit on new deck...
Been here once and never again. Food was cold and I found a piece of hair and toothpick in my salad. A waiter tried to trip me on the way out for complaining.....Also a very white establishment. Overheard that owner has as history of favoring white workers over his workers of color. Not surprised after looking up an article about Jon Borish (the owner)...
The food is amazing and the staff is even better 😁. I deliver for them all the time and everyone complements the restaurant. I personally love the Elijahs Baked Mac & Cheese and the Salmon Burger. The only negative is that they are always packed, which is good. I recommend reserving seats online or ordering online through UberEats.
I had an amazing meal here! Was seated quickly, they have a great menu to pick from, as well as a dinner specials menu which offered a lot to choose from. I ended up ordering the scallops, which were phenomenal. It came with a risotto that was incredible, easily the best I’ve had. I would definitely recommend this place, and I can’t wait to go back so I can try their meatloaf
We had reservations on the eve of Thanksgiving at 7pm. We arrived early and they gladly accommodated us even though they were super busy. The hostess and waitress as well as the girl who brought us our food were super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely AMAZING! Super fresh, great portions and very fairly priced!!!! I highly recommend Marathon Grill and everyone in my party does as well!!!! We will be back!!!!!
Very busy but we only waited 10 min to be seatedFood took a little long to be served, but everything was tasty. My husband raved about his burger. Server was very friendly, but didnt check on our table. We kept having to flag her down when we needed something. Im attributing it to the fact that the restaurant was packed so maybe she had a lot of tables/customers to attend to. Overall, we enjoyed our visited and would eat here again.
Lovely restaurant. We come here 3 or 4 times every time were in Philly for work. The steak is excellent and the service is usually good. We had Alison as our waitress tonight and she was absolutely fantastic, she accommodated a table move when we realised that the road works outside with flashing lights were going to trigger a migraine for my friend. She was also the right amount of attentive and seemed to genuinely care which I really love. Overall, the food is great, the service is great, you wont be disappointed!
Love Marathon Grill. The food is always good. The service is always spot on.The pot pie is awesome. Not your traditional make but with a flaky crust layer on top and a ton of good stuff under it.Breakfast all day, specialty drinks, and a friendly staff are a few other great things about this spot.
Our company ordered a catered breakfast for an important office meeting, totaling almost $300. The hot breakfast sandwiches were all mislabeled, and literally soggy. They must have been cooked the night before and then reheated with the sterno, because they were inedible. We had to spend another $50 at a bakery to make sure our team and guests had something to eat. When we brought this complaint to the catering office, they told us there was nothing they could do but offer us 50% off our next catering...as if this food experience would lead us to order again. Really disappointed with this experience, especially from a restaurant weve enjoyed many times as loyal customers.
Service was decent, but my bagel and lox, which was 13.50 (!!!) Was mostly uninspired and unexciting, for the price I expected a bit more. My cream cheese had curdled or something and was basically inedible, but that was fixed by the staff after a few minutes. Coffee was good though!
Came in only 45 min b4 closing after work. received amazing service. Fresh, wonderful, beautiful crab cakes and NICE sweet potato fries. most places wouldve given me a hard time, and the food wouldve been old cold garbage. Instead, I received rapid, polite, complete service, and wonderful food. Food was reasonably priced too.
I go to this special place from time to time as I enjoy the special atmosphere that is exist in this place. The personel is very loyal and professional. The service is extraordinarily quick. Not to mention, the food they cook is outstanding. I have been there often and I was always pleased. The pay is fair. I highly recommend this restaurant to to all.
The food was good.Bartender Allison was annoyed with us from the moment we didn’t order drinks, and was pretty poor service for the rest of the night.I used to serve myself, and barely review restaurants. Out of all my dining out, this is my first time feeling a sense of unwelcomed by a staff member.
My first and only visit to this chain is what Ill go over here. My meal was around brunch time (10ish), there was no line to wait in so that eas great. Seating was open so no problems there.. however the wait for my food was pretty lengthy. It was fairly busy as expected for a prime location as such and the waitress seemed stiff so to speak, the food was great though! I had eggs Benedict and my little one had pancakes with strawberries and bananas. Not sure who brought out my food but she was pretty dope, she just had a memorable presence and she seemed to take pride in her work and that was appreciated. Overall the experience per view was lackluster but the food was great.
Firstly the food is excellent. The kitchen is slow when the restaurant gets busy. We waited 30 minutes for sandwiches and omelets. If you have an hour or more allotted for a lunch meal, youll be happy. The wait staff is courteous and somewhat responsive. I would go back when I have a leisurely amount of time to spend.
We had dinner at the 16th street location last night. We were in town for the night and needed somewhere kid friendly as we had with us our 2 little kids and our friends and their child. The staff was beyond accommodating, effiecent and helpful. The food was fresh and DELICIOUS, came out rather quickly and the prices were great. We had such a great time, esp being out with kiddos and got to enjoy our dinner! Thank you so much to the wonderful staff for a great evening!
Abso-freaking-lutely delicious! We had trouble getting reservations for an event in town, but Marathon Grill was there for us when we needed them most! Wait staff were very helpful and friendly. The food is absolutely amazing. We got a variety of food, from seafood to sandwiches and burgers to pasta, and it was all top notch. Price-wise, just know you will be spending a good chunk here, but worth every penny! Enjoy!
I walk by this place frequently and never thought of going inside. A friend and I decided to meet up after work and have dinner at another restaurant which closed unexpectedly, we landed at the marathon grill. My oh my, I enjoyed my meal so much. No picture of my grilled salmon and asparagus and mixed Veggies because I destroyed it, so yummy. This place is now in the rotation.
This is the best restaurant in town. they have such an incredible and versatile menu. you’d have to go to a jewish deli, salad/smoothie place, diner and upscale restaurant in order to get everything they offer - but they do it all and better. and they deliver - including fountain drinks and coffee. This is the staple of Philly.
Great food, great service. Went two times during my stay. Got the marathon burger and peanut butter banana smoothies on the first occasion which were both excellent. On the second visit, I got the pancakes and bacon with bananas and cookie dough INSIDE the pancakes--only one word AMAZING! Do yourself a favor and go here!
Always a good spot to come with friends. Brunch has a lot of tasty options. In this case, I had a late lunch so ended up with the chicken fingers, which were I nicely breaded and dipped well with ketchup (not a honey mustard fan). Took a burger home, which was much better than expected. Meat was tender and juicy, and the spicy aioli added great flavor. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive to the table. Had not been in a while but I plan to be back soon.
Loved it here. Got a late breakfast that was fantastic. Was insanely busy but thats our fault for going when the marathon just got over with - duh. Like the reviewer below me mentioned, expect to be close to the tables next to you. Its not a big deal but dont expect to have a private conversation. The portion sizes were very generous and I was glad we were walking around the city that day so I could burn it off a bit!
Loved Marathon Grill. During a recent visit to Philadelphia, we had dinner there because it was close to our hotel and it was late, so we didnt feel like venturing too far. We liked it so much we returned for breakfast the next morning and dinner again the next evening. It has something for everyone - fantastic food, craft beers on draft, good cocktails, smoothies, friendly and efficient service. Nice, casual vibe with great street views. The Southwest Salad was one of the best salads Ive ever had - greens that tasted like they were right out of the garden, a delicious lime/cilantro vinaigrette, avocado, corn and more. And they make a great Moscow mule. Great experience all around.
Imagine you’re eating (two of us, both full plates) and your waitress brings you check asking if she can take your plate away (both plates full, we are eating). Imagine our shock. We politely said no thank you we are working on it. She leaves the check and walks away. Place is on the empty side and mid-day. In other words, we can’t see a reason for speedy force-out. We both quietly eating, etc. bottom line ... speechless. Two-stars coz food was nice. Thank you.
Marathon Grill is fine if youre looking for cheap drinks and chain-level food. It does these things fine and the service is...serviceable. There are far too many great restaurants and bars nearby to warrant going here though. They did happen to be open on 4th of July during a thunderstorm.
I love the food! I am frequently made uncomfortable by Marathon staff clearing the table when my to go box is there and I have not paid yet. I dont know where they found my leftovers when they were missing and the table was cleared which is disconcerting. On another occasion, I was told to leave when with a coworker talking right when we where paying. It bothered my coworker a lot too. Therefore, I leave uncomfortable and cannot digest my food as well. There are much better restaurant options that do not treat me this way. The two managers I spoke to did nothing to compensate me for it when I went through the trouble of telling them. Today, the manager Dan said that this is a normal way to do buisiness for them unapologetically. I always tip well. Why?
Service was okay; the food was a lot better though! It was somewhat busy but our waitress barely payed attention to out table. We had to flag her down to get a refill on out drinks which sat empty on the table for about 10 minutes. The food was great though so that made up for the (lack of) service.
I went to the Marathon Grill for lunch with some colleagues after an appointment in Center City. Its obviously easy to find and accessible. The lunch menu is good and the food was tasty. Some things to note - this restaurant is busy at lunch and quite noisy. At times it was difficult to carry a conversation with people sitting at the same table. The service was horrendous. I remember waiting several minutes for our drink order multiple times and our glasses were constantly empty, even as the food was served. Towards the end of our meal the restaurant was thinning out, yet the service did not improve. I would consider returning to the Marathon Grill but the selection in the area permits trying other local establishments.
Super good food. I used to work here. There management is very focused on quality. I cant believe how good the food is and was when I worked here. Would eat here everyday. The only thing is the tables are small and close together which makes it feel a lack of privacy when eating.
Marathon is excellent. Honestly a great restaurant to take a mixed group with various food needs. Going to dinner with a vegan, a carnivore, and someone whos gluten free? Take them to Marathon! Have a picky eater, someone who wants a sandwich, and someone who wants a massive salad? Again, Marathon. Food quality is great, service is totally fine if not exceptional, and the space has a ton of seating options.
My boyfriend and I came to eat before Christmas (12/21/17). The food was okay, nothing outstanding, but we were hungry and it filled us up. My main reason for the 2 stars was the fact that the restaurant had issues with rats, particularly in the main dining area. I had felt something hit my feet a few times and when I looked on the floor to see what it was, we saw rats scurrying away. I took a few videos to show the waitress and she apologized and acknowledged they had a rat issue.
We went to Marathon Grill after a long day at a conference in Philly. The guy who seated us was very nice. The waiter came to our table and he had a What do you want sort of attitude. He probably wanted to go home, which is understandable, but he wasnt very helpful especially at first. A few jokes and he loosened up.The food was pretty good, but nothing to do a handstand over.
So loud and took so long to get our meals on a Saturday at 1:10pm. Not sure if its like this every weekend but for burgers and quiche it seems overly long to have to wait 30 min+. Not sure I will come back. That said the burger is outstanding and the quiche looked amazing
Great food and I love the outdoor seating!! Service is friendly, quick and outgoing! Happy hour wine by the glass is a perfect way to wind down the day. Get the hummus app or the fire roasted salsa with homemade chips to share! Yum! I also love the large selection of vegetarian and gluten free menu items. They are clearly marked on the menu as well so you know what is what. And with three locations its easy to get the quick lunch on your break. The 16th & Sansom location is awesome. However, the Market St. location has a great outdoor happy hour!
Cozy spot with surprisingly reasonable prices in the city. My partner and I had reservations, however we caught ourselves there earlier than planned, but the restaurant was still accommodating. We had a nice table by the window to people watch, and our waiter was attentive and had some dope sneakers on, which gave him and my partner something to connect and chat over. Not a long wait for drinks or dinner, about an hour and $30+tip for two people. I dig this spot over the Marathon on 19th street. The calamari and wontons are lit, as is the buffalo chicken sandwich!
Delicious fresh food, a lot of which is sourced from their very own urban farm. The salmon burger was easily one of the best Ive ever had, and the veggie chili was hearty and filling. I also decided to get the Mac & Cheese appetizer and split it with my dinner-mate, but that could have easily been a meal on its own.Ill be coming here again.
We were quickly greeted and seated, however our table did not yet havesilverware. The silverware was brought by a busboywho handled the forks by the tines withhis bare hands. Also, the busboy was too quick to snatchaway plates. If we are already gettingup to leave, he should wait until we areactually gone before clearing the table.Marathon Grill does not take Discover Card.
Theres just something that keeps bringing me back to this place. While I admit their sandwiches have never been anything to write home about, the location, friendly staff and thoughtfully constructed dining room make for a dependable friend when walking through Center City. Marathon happens to be the creator of a truly marvelous culinary gem: The cheesesteak wontons. Dont skip the appetizer.
We normally dine there once each week, even though the noise level is very high. Food is better than average, menu is somewhat limiting, and hardly ever varies. But, very close for us makes it convenient. Recently, we ordered apple pie, which came (after a 15 minute wait) with a 2 sq of pie and a scoop of ice cream. We complained to the waitress about the small portion of pie (weve had it before and this was about 30%). She returned with a message from the manager that the pie was a standard portion. Really? We wrote to the ownership the portion and that the manager never came to address us, personally. We never received a response. With all the excellent choices in Philly, we will not return to a business whose ownership, and management, is unconcerned.
We were strapped for time in between sessions at a Speaker Conference in the Kimmel Center. This was a quick walk from Broad Street and a great place. We both got the Philly Cheesesteak wiz wit and enjoyed it. Great service with drinks topped off every time before they hit the bottom. Highly recommended!
American cuisine at its best. The best cheesesteak in Philly can be a huge debate but mine is actually at Marathons. Id say they have the best jambalaya in the while region as well. Each dish at Marathons just tastes great and well arranged, at a reasonable price. Portions are pretty big, too.The venue is clean and modern, with fast and friendly service. If I were to bring foreign tourists for a good sample of great tasting American food from many regions, Marathon would be it.
Marathon grill is suucchh an amazing place! From the food, to the ambiance and their location in the heart of philly its truly a place to go! I I hiigghhllyy recommend their brunch on the weekends! Tons of flooding, great deals and their seasonal/weekly specials are amazing! Had the peach pancakes one Saturday and they were to die for! You will definitely get a bang for your buck here with some darn good food!

2021-11-11My husband and I had lunch here. The food was very good. Service was excellent as well. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. If in town again, Id definitely return.I had the grilled Salmon and mashed potatoes, starting with a house salad with avocado Ranch. My husband had the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. It was good & the fries with it were perfectly cooked.

2022-04-13I dont know what word to use but great!!! Me and my friends decided on this restaurant just from walking by and hearing the music. Really fun. The food was really good I really tried to save some for later but it was hard. I havent had chicken parmesan in a while and Im glad I had it and it was actually a good dish from a great restaurant. Like I said before the music is what brought us to the restaurant because we could hear it from outside. The music was jamming and the atmosphere and the people that work there were really good. Anytime we needed something brought to our table it came and it was not a long wait. If you are visiting Philadelphia make sure you stop by this restaurant with your friends are family. FYI BE HUNGRY

2021-11-23What a coincidence, great place to have some breakfast before heading out to our race (Philadelphi Marathon). Offer indoor and outdoor dining with patio heater. Ordered the Benedictine eggs and quesadilla and it was delicious. Highly recommended to full you body before or after the races!

2022-06-05Great food and great service! Had my brother grad lunch here and he loved it. I got the grilled herb chicken with mash and vegetables. It was very nicely seasoned. We also had the calamari and hummus for an appetizer. The pickled veggies that came with the hummus were so good. The calamari was fried to perfection we had to get seconds. Highly recommend

2021-10-08Met my wife at Rittenhouse Square after work. After looking at Google Maps for dinner locations, we decided to walk around and see what looked good. We walked one block when we came across Marathon Grill. There two sections of outdoor seating looked appealing and the menu looked great. There was a variety of options to choose from and many sounded delicious.I ordered a sauvignon blanc from the waitress and the wine was from New Zealand. It was delightful. The brisket was good, I especially loved the crispy shallots and onions. The gravy could have used a bit more flavor. The burger my wife ordered was also tasty, particularly the barbeque sauce. Whats most appealing is that they use local ingredients. Staff was friendly.Bathroom finder: walk past the bar and try one of the two nondescript black doors.

2022-04-11I love that Marathon has brunch/breakfast all day. The food was incredibly tasty at a very reasonable price. The staff was friendly without being overbearing. The atmosphere is casual and upbeat, and well decorated. I enjoyed my visit. My only small complaint was that I wish they took Discover Card- but I just use my other card when I stop by.

2021-10-04Pretty typical American grill fare. Service was good but food quality is a little lacking. Their “Greek Salad” is anything but a Greek salad - mostly lettuce filler with two little grape sized tomatoes sliced in half, a tiny bit of diced cucumber and feta cheese sprinkled on top. Fries are a little soggy as was the bread in the brisket press sandwich.

2022-06-16I ordered from grubhub, the food was great until I was chewing my burger and noticed something that was hard. It seems like it was glass or something. The food was really good but I was just concerned on what I found in my food.

2021-09-24Shared a buttery plate with a fly and found it the helpful deterrent. Added syrup: He stopped begging at my plate. Banana pancakes were perfect texture and yummy! Bacon tasted fresh and no drippy grease. Eggs were done over-easy and lifted nicely on top of my pancake stack. The floor mopping worried me to the point of giving my napkin to a puddle neighboring a table of elderly patrons. Good waitress!
