This is the BEST place to grocery shop! I use the Giant Eagle Scan Pay & Go app so I can just shop, scan my items and bag them as I am shopping. All on my phone! Then when I am finished, I just go up front and you just scan the register with your phone, it pulls up your order and you pay.... done and GONE! No having to deal with lines or cashiers! You can even use coupons! Your advantage card is already registered on your app.You can choose to use or save your discount at the end, and it takes all forms of payment. It is worth it!!They always have rare items here as well. A really nice charcuterie selection, breads, bulks, and around the world items...Italian, Mexican, Indian, Kosher, etc.
Such a wide variety of products and excellent quality to boot. This isnt your discount supermarket, but you get what you pay for absolutely applies here. Will be back, especially for the Muffeletta olive tapinade and the fresh sliced mortadella.
Each time I visit the store its always a good experience. The store is clean, well lit and organized.
Had a very bad experience there one day, Had the cops called on me over a mask, and the food is suspect to me, Ive never in my 63 years seen a seedless lemon til this place very hard to find any fruit or vegetables with seeds there, why? Very suspect to me
I like this place its big nd has just about anything your looking for and the staff is very friendly and helpful! The only thing is they could use new handicap carts!
Stopped in to grab a few items and beat the crowds. This is a great store to find those hard to find gourmet items like a $20.00 slice of cheese, pack of goober berries, or and odd and scary looking dried mushroom. Coming early in the morning is the only way to shop here as later in the day its crazy busy. I recommend a stop if your in the area and up early.Update 6/30/2022 - Come and experience all the joy of working at Giant Eagle without any of the benifits or a discount for your troubles as just about every check out is a self checkout. (operational and properly working checkouts optional)🤔
A great place to shop if you love fruit flies and unresponsive customer service. Ive included photos of tomatos taken more than a week apart showing their tomatoes infested with fruit flies. By no means is this the only issue at this store but the unresponsive nature of the entire organization leads me to believe raising issues with them is utterly pointless.
In order to pick up at the pharmacy I had to enter thru main doors and walk to pharmacy then back out the main doors instead of the door at the pharmacy. Hard for handicapped. Why not have curbside pickup?

We hosted an event this past weekend and decided to use Market Districts catering services for all 3 days. Let me tell you, the staff and the food are amazing. Ro and Kristen made my job so easy! I came into the store feeling overwhelmed with all the details of running an event, but these kind ladies helped calm me down and get my order out the door in an easy, quick, and efficient manner. I would 100% order from this location again!If you wanna know how good the food is - I have never seen a group of people demolish Caesar and Garden salads like I did this past weekend. The mac n cheese was a hit and the other hot sides were very popular too. I cant say too much about the entree options (as I didnt order any), but I would 10/10 recommend you check this place out!
Giant eagle, especially this one, always has the items you cant find anywhere else. Like the rare smorz cereal for example. Which is awesome. 10/10 would reccomend.
Larger selection of products than any normal Giant Eagle. I have FOUR within 5-10 minutes of my house and will still drive 20 minutes to get to this one.The butchers in the meat section are always great at pointing you towards the sale items too, which is nice.
This is always where we go when we want the best of the best. Always a good variety of spices that you can’t find anywhere else. Excellent produce. Delicious prepared foods. Freshly ground coffee. All good things!
Market District reminds me of a whole foods. They offer fresh produce, seafood, and even fresh made sushi. They also have a Starbucks inside as well as a bar and liquor as well as a wine section. The staff are pretty friendly and I enjoy going there often.
Amazing store. The original Market District. Nice staff. Great variety. Best sushi folks. Amazing gourmet cheese department. Variety of breads, phenomenal. Produce, meat, seafood...as fresh as it gets!
Love Market District as it is set up well, and the selection is outstanding. The best grocery store around. Fresh produce and helpful counter staff. Shelves always are neat and it is easy to find what you need with their center aisle which shortens the time in the store. Many of their made to order food options are well worth the money too.
I shop at this Giant Eagle Market District all the time.. They have everything you could ever want here.. Its clean & the employees are kind & helpful.. They also have a pharmacy that I use all the time.. I always use the self check out so I can ring up my own items and bag my own things.. And, its right in the bus line..
Horrible experience! A person named Brenda at customer service is a nightmare to deal with. Avoid interacting with her at all cost. She is horribly rude to customers and obviously hates her job. PLEASE do better hiring people to represent your company.
They have alot of different foods. Nice fresh meat and fish markets. Great bake goods. They even have a fresh foods they make there for take out.
Yesterday I had a good cashier very friendly. And the service desk people are normally fantastic. Even most of the stock people are helpful when you ask them a question.
This market district store is unbelievable. You can literally spend 4 hours shopping and you probably wouldnt see everything they offer. One thing to remember its very busy so if you want the best selection try to get there before noon especially on weekends.

Love this place. Amazing Produce and Bulk sections.I pass 2 other Giant Eagles just to shop at this one. Sundays are really busy and they keep most of their registers open. Ohhh, they also have scan as you go so you dont have to stand in the lines. The store is always kept clean and stocked and the employees will help out.
There are a few people that work here that just make me smile. Theyre so helpful and friendly. I use the pharmacy a lot, and the staff there is amazing.Sometimes, it can be confusing to find what Im looking for. I miss it being just a grocery store. Im not a big fan of the self checkouts, and its a bit expensive.All in all, its the employees make a wonderful shopping experience.
Very nice and clean store! Moved here from the Central Valley of California and the prices at Giant Eagle are sometimes scary. Sometimes the difference is two dollars per item... organic hole milk and pork tenderloin for a example. I hope the store is an Union store for the jump in prices. I will continue to shop here sometimes, especially for the items on sale but weekly shopping probably not. Trader Joes prices are a bit better especially the basics... organic milk under 6 dollars per gallon, eggs at 139 per dozen, and butter at 2.99 per pound. The help at customer service at Giant Eagle was very good...my cleck out clerk was Carol, it was Valentines day evening at the Waterworks store. Carol was very professional but she had a bit of sense of humor that made my check out exceedingly pleasurable...kudos to her!

Honestly, its probably one of the best Market Districts in the city. Out of the three Giant Eagle locations I do my shopping in, this one has, hands down, the widest variety of goods for sale, aisles spacious enough that logjams arent common, and best of all its open 24 hours a day. The produce, bakery, and hot foods sections in particular are fantastic, and theres always a good mix of self-check-out and employee-operated registers open. Plus theres a Redbox right in the foyer and thats always a plus. Finally, theres the location to consider, right on the outskirts of a sprawling shopping center, so shoppers dont have to slog their way around too much foot traffic. No car? Theres a bus stop literally right at the entrance.
Great selection. Great grocery store. Always clean. And their plastic shopping carts are awesome - much lighter & quieter than the metal shopping carts at most other stores.
Tons of choices, intuitive layout, great variety when it comes to those on limited diets. Sometimes the lines can be long, but just avoid weekend shopping. Also to note is that this location no longer provides plastic bags. You must provide your own bags or purchase paper ones for a small fee. Still - standout grocery shopping.
The food variety is really good. I really like the bulk food area because they have a nice selection of grains and granola. The produce prices are ridiculous, but may be on par with other grocery stores, not sure. The amenities in the store are nice- the little restaurant over near the beer/wine area has good food and the Citizens bank inside has better hours than a lot of stand alone banks.
So today is Sunday, what are the giant eagle to pick up a few Staples, didnt need any toilet paper paper towels! Thethe store was crowded the parking lot was crowded this was 8 in the morning, every check out was hoping things went very quickly all the employees were still smiling which is a lot more than I can say for the customers that were in there. So thank you, giant eagle and marketplace you did a great job. I appreciate you!
Nice large store with a large selection of specialty items. The prices are a bit high, but overall still lower than other stores of this type in most cases. The vegetables are always fresh and their baked goods are just as good as home made. The thumb prints are one of our favorites. We enjoy going there when we are in town.
You need more people at the Deli. I was number 8 and waited almost 20 minutes . It wasnt the 2 elderly workers fault. Please give those poor thing a raise!

The pharmacy here seems like its always backed up. This is a very busy Pharmacy. The store itself is constantly stocking but it seems they should have more paper products than they have. I do understand this is during covid-19 but I feel they should have more products. The bathrooms seem to be clean but the lines are almost always a hassle when you check out.
Lynda the cashier was professional, friendly & very helpful as she bagged up all my groceries (it was a big order) & went and got my cigarettes. Hats off to her.
I love this place! Ive travelled all over the U.S.A. and this specific location is literally my favorite Supermarket. Great sales, deals, and affordable prices. They have everything in there. Beer and wine store, Starbucks, bakery, hot food section, pharmacy, full customer service that is always staffed, and much more. Great selection, everything is very fresh, and the shelves are very well stocked. The store and parking lot are huge and very clean. Everyone is super friendly too. I love their pick 5 for 20 bucks!
I live about three minutes from a giant eagle and I always drive further and drive 20 minutes to go to this particular Market District the selection is much better the employees are much kinder and helpful and the store is very clean they also have more of a variety of products than a regular Giant Eagle. The cashiers are very friendly on Saturday mornings. I prefer to go around 7 or 7:30 a.m. when the store is not busy because it can get pretty congested between late morning and afternoon on the weekend they also have an Eagles Nest so you can drop your kids off while you shop. They can play with toys make crafts or play video games that is another reason why I love this particular store for you regular Giant Eagles do not have these anymore and even when they did they werent as wonderful as this particular Eagles Nest the women who work with the kids are wonderful they are very patient and kid friendly and the crafts they do are really cute if its close to a holiday they will do crafts to coordinate with that holiday such as Easter or Halloween. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly and the store and Eagles Nest are immaculate.Also make sure to let them know your childs birthday they will receive a birthday card and a coupon for a free treat during the month of their birthday if they visit the Eagles nest!
The nicest of the Giant Eagles near me. Similar to a Wegmans supermarket in layout and style (maybe this is where they got some of their style cues?), with nice produce and prepared foods sections. Its always crowded, though, which makes checkout a pain, even using the scan and go option.
This is one of the better Giant Eagle stores in the Pittsburgh area. Plenty of parking. The store is well maintained, and stocked (Covid complexities notwithstanding). It can be a bit pricey, but it also has decent savings via the Advantage Card program.
One of your better Giant Eagle Markets! The shelves are stocked, you can always find an employee to help assist you, and this Giant Eagle does not have limited hrs as the other Market District on Centre Ave in Shadyside does! You can actually get off work and know that customer service, lottery, hot foods, deli, and bakery will be open!

This Market District is very nice. Good quality Foods. Although I consider this to to be a high in store. Meaning money. This grocery store has something for everyone. I love theyre produced always fresh. This chain store has been around for decades. Since I was a little girl. So whenever you go you will always run into someone you know. Lol. I get prescriptions there so I will do a little grocery shopping there as well.
This place has very unique delicious food and products that you will not find anywhere else in the area.
This store is so clean and organized. I have never been in and found it very easy to navigate. I wish I lived closer bc I would shop here all the time.

Love this Market District in Fox Chapel. They have so many more gluten free choices. And the fish and seafood are excellent. Its not as confusing as some of the other stores and is much bigger than the ones around where I live. Will definitely go there again
One of the larger and better Giant Eagle Market District stores. This store offers great selections in especially produce, meats and cheeses. Prices are slightly higher on some items, but weekly sales are excellent. Customer service is consistently good and the store is clean. It is however a VERY busy store and even with most registers being staffed lines can be long during peak shopping times.
I love the market district store! They have a huge variety of merchandise and food. Giant eagle is notorious for being overpriced, but the store is clean and well stocked. It’s worth paying a little extra for a better quality store. I will definitely go back.
I love this particular Market District because of the huge selection! Such a great variety of produce. I also have always had exceptional service. One day I was in the self check out and a gentleman bagged my groceries up for me. Usually at grocery stores, in the self check out, the attendant just stands there and does nothing. So that was such a pleasant surprise. Tonight we had a wonderful cashier, I believe her name was Jenny. She was so sweet. I will always come here even tho I live in Sarver! It’s worth it.
This has got to be the BEST Giant Eagle on the North Side of Pittsburgh. It is so HUGE. Overwhelming for your first time here. Pizza section, cafe section, bakery section, sushi section, and so much more.Very nice staff. Very polite.Aisles are about as long as a football field. So there is PLENTY of selections to choose from.Great prices too.
Return to this location after several years absence. The selection is reasonably good, prices are rather high for staple items. The produce / prepared foods / cafe area is far too cramped with stuff. Disappointed to find well past date milk in the cooler. Seafood guy and butcher was very pleasant and helpful.
This is a very nice Giant Eagle Market District. Its very large, their bakery offers awesome cakes and baked goods, and their cashiers are very friendly. I love it when a store has many checkout lanes open and get customers out quickly. Some stores only have two lanes open which is annoying. Theres a lot of parking for this supermarket, and a bus stop is right in front of the supermarket so you can take the bus here.
I love it here! My fiances hard worked money is always welcomed. Best selections and awesome toffee cookies in the bakery. But you didnt hear that from me.

Good to get everything you need, but on the expensive side of grocery. It has a Starbucks and you can order lunch/dinner food. They do have an alchohol section. There are definitely very busy times, but they are good about staffing. They also have self serve kiosks and and a scanning function for quick shopping. They have childcare while you are shopping and I think it is for 3+.
I LOVE scan and go! Its a huge time saver, checkout is a breeze! Plus, we were able to find all the fresh and produce that were out elsewhere. Great experience.

Love their eco-friendly choice of eliminating plastic bags. They charge for paper bags so remember to bring your reusable bags. They have a great selection of produce. There is a bar, Starbucks, pizza place, salad bar and hot food buffet. They also have a bulk food section. You can also get milk in glass jugs. The chocolate milk is amazing. You can return the bottles for cash.
Terrible customer service, as a paying customer to giant eagle for many many years I got literally turned down from entering the business because I physically cant wear a mask due to medical reasons and I cant restrict my breathing any further then it already is. The fake security guard kept repeating himself and was rude from the start, instead of explaining or letting me explain he just repeatedly told me to leave. U wont see me back and u didnt only loose a paying customer but you lost a family of paying customers. Will take our business to Walmart where you are not judge or kicked out over a stupid mask.

Market District, Schmarket District. If I spend another couple hours wandering around I might actually be able to figure out where everything is in this monster store. It has everything, but finding it always seems to be a challenge. I still think the lighting is too low. There is an entire aisle - both sides - of flavored water. In fact, the coffee, pop, beer and other drinks take up about 25 percent of the entire store. Another quarter of the store is non-groceries. It is an inconvenience store, the polar opposite of a simple grocery store. Since I dont enjoy wandering around aimlessly (except at Lowes or Home Depot), I only go occasionally. Otherwise, it is fine. Good selection, clean and well run, just not my cup of tea.
Is this even a real grocery store? I mean, come on, they sell grills! This was the first time Ive ever been to a market district and WOW was I blown away. The variety is just crazy, I felt like I could have spent hours just browsing the shelves. This is a great place they have everything you need, and Id be surprised if they didnt have something that you wanted.
I worked in the bakery - horrible experience I was there maybe a month & a half. Let’s be honest the cakes you find are frozen sweaty disasters. Let’s not get on the bakery manager he has no clue how to run a bakery. Plus the decorators are petty and think that they can come in work and only do certain things ( easy tasks) yet complain or make a comment on something they where to lazy to do themselves. Don’t work in the bakery. Plus they follow an ugly hint of brown in every color “color scheme” from corporate just not a real bakery in this giant eagle.

I love this store!! They have everything imaginable plus items you never knew existed! No problems with staff, located on bus line in fact the bus stops right outside the door by the pharmacy. They have handicapped parking , entrances and restrooms. Also the restrooms are always clean! There is a Starbucks located inside with ample seating this adjoins their hot food area thats got a good selection to choose from. The pot pies are delicious!Located in a decent area no riff-raff to worry about and Ive never had to witness a young mans underwear being exposed because his pants were around his knees. Ive never understood that and I honestly try very hard to be nonjudgmental.Have a nice day! 😊.

The best grocery store Ive ever been to!!! They have a restaurant and bar that opens relatively early, they serve Giant Eagles typical great rotisserie chicken, plus good Mac and cheese, Vegetables that hit the spot, and their booze selection is fantastic both for beer - ranging from lagers domestic and foreign, to craft beers, local and exotic, great prices all around as well as a beer-drinkers heaven, a nice area with multiple TVs playing sporting events, a full beer and wine bar+bartender...Tough to beat this place, even compared to slow-food restaurants! Not to mention its on the bus line, close to movie theater and bookstores, Walmart, etcetera
Market District Giant Eagles are pretty much your one stop shop for many needs in your house; its not just a grocery store.However, the food selection, bakery, and prepared food section gives you some of the best selection and quality of any other grocery. Add an excellent deli, meat including a top drawer prepared meats section, and a decent seafood market add to its appeal.The specialist in the store, such as pharmacy and shaving/shampoo & womens needs is well stocked and diverse.I find they can be higher priced (all Giant Eagles) in my opinion to defer costs of Fuel Perks. But, since Im not a fan of Walmart unless necessary, this is my default store.
Decent produce and fresh product selection. Nice options in the bulk dry goods as well. If Giant Eagle wants to compete for fans of Whole Foods, farmers markets, Aldi, and Co-ops, they absolutely must do better with their prices and availability or organic and vegan goods. With the amount they change they should be able to pay living wages to their team members as well.
I saw one of their stock checking robots today. Hope they replace some of the staff soon. While we were trying to figure out their app to scan items (cool system, love it now that I understand it) we were in front of the register/kiosk. Totally our fault, we were taking up the register unintentionally while trying to figure out the system. One of their employees just walks up and gets in my face telling me “You’re supposed to scan as you go. Go over there.” With an attitude. I try and ask for assistance in figuring this thing out while moving but he just repeats “You need to scan as you go” and walks away. I’ve worked retail, I understand being busy. But when a customer is totally cooperative and is not only obviously struggling but asking for assistance, attitude is not very helpful. I don’t understand what his problem was, didn’t even catch his name but I almost got a face full of beard when he rushed up to us. Hopefully I can use the app now that I’ve figured it out to avoid him completely if I have to shop here again.
The Market District supermarkets are excellent! They carry all of the standard supermarket fare along with the stuff you would usually only find in the more natural focused supermarkets.They also have many high quality Market District brands of many types of food. Additionally they have a hot food bar and even a small dining area to sit down and enjoy your food.
Customer service is usually bleep at this location. However, the store will have pretty much everything you need. Some items are hard to find and getting someone to help you can be a task.
This store is amazing. They got it all. From good make up. To food pizzza etc etc. Great beers and wines. Nice bar good food. Hard to say its a super market. But it is. I can spend hrs in there.😎😸
GREEDY! I bought some items in the store and paid for it in the Cafe section. The lady set my items down and left them there and when I asked if I could have a bag for them she said it would cost 10 cents. NOT EVEN JOKING HERE, PEOPLE. Wow! So now this mammoth store that is fairly pricey and makes hand over fist cant afford to give a customer a lousy bag for their items they paid for in the store?! I can understand Aldi charging for bags due to how inexpensive everything is in their store, but Market District should be ashamed.
Price gouging. Go the Aldis or Walmart.
On par for late Sunday afternoon shopping: lots of gaps on the shelves. But the fish counter looked pretty good, and we bagged a few decent burgers for dinner, as planned. Always feels like this store is bigger than necessary.
I love the Aspinwall Market District on Freeport Road. They have the freshest produce in the area not to mention their bakery section, and meat section, is extensive along with the specialty items they offer. I live closer to the Shadyside Market District but prefer to go across the bridge to do my food shopping. Seldom do I have to stand in line for long periods of time since they often have several registers open to accommodate their customers. In my opinion, they are the superior grocery store in the area.
I wanted to try something from their restaurant, I waited and waited for someone to help me. I asked the cook where the person was to take my order, his response was she was delivering food. I waited a few more minutes. Saw the person who was delivering food., she never acknowledged me. I left, bought lunch meat and bread. Cashier stated this happens all of the time there. If giant eagle is going to offer this service, a restaurant, staff it appropriately! ! Very disappointed! ! Giant Eagle, YOU CAN DO BETTER!!
Giant Eagle is pricey but you cannot beat the selection of goods at a Market District. Great if youre looking for organic/non GMO products. Self checkout is nice. Hard to find employees for assistance sometimes but I usually shop at night being that it is 24 Hours. It gets very busy here during the day.
I was there on Monday 8-26-20 and I just dont like how they got it. I understand the reason of social distancing but I hate how you have to go to the exit door to enter and leave out the enter door to exit; Its inconvenient because you have to walk all around to get to the other stores.The need to change that because its not right for those who have to catch the bus.

The one in Aspinwall is the best one- highef end. Has almost everything in a nice environment plus does catering anddelivery unlike the one. In Shadyside. Aspinwall is more like a good ShopRite in NJ. Love this store.
Overall, I love this Giant Eagle! It almost functions as a gourmet shop, and I am so impressed with the cleanliness, ease of finding products, and variety of interesting products especially when compared to other Giant Eagles. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is definitely a bit pricey.
Since I moved to Pittsburgh this chain puzzles me. The quality of their produce is bad. I have to toss veggies and fruits after soemetimre 2 days of buying and fruits are usually harder than stone. Some of them are so big ( bigger than Cosco) that you have to cross the whole store to get your milk. I see what they are doing there. I started avoiding them and prefer smaller less industrialized shops.
Yesterday was my birthday and Andy was the evening manager that saved the DAY! He was patient, helpful, and easy to relate to. We felt valued and taken care of above and beyond. #reviewsmatter Thanks so much! My balloons and cake were a hit!
Many things are overpriced... Very few true sales... & theyve completely re-vamped the fuel discount rewards... Which Im still up in the air about... Most of the employees are polite & helpful... But dont try calling there for something because youll more than likely have to #1: call back 3-4 times #2: wait on hold for 20+ minutes & #3: get re-routed 4-5 times before you get the correct department.. & Sundays/Holidays & game/event days are INSANE!! But unfortunately they are one of only a few stores close by that carry a few of my must haves... So I must occasionally brave it & deal w their ridiculous prices.
Their produce is high quality, & stocked well. While admiring all of the beautiful displays of yummy food overall, the store is a delight to shop!
Its always a pleasure to shop at either Market District or the Giant Eagle at Waterworks
This is a very large grocery store, it offers a large selection; especially, regarding unique or hard to find items. The Market District (Giant Eagle) is more expensive than other local grocery stores. They are also open 24 hours.
This is a nice Grocery Store but it is too big for me. I like a smaller store to shop at for me. This store has too many aisles to go up and down. At check out the clerks are courteous and helpful. This place is OK for anyone who has lots of time to shop.
An amazing store based on another amazing store named Wegmans Foods of Rochester, NY. Very nice decor in both.Both carry a lot of interesting foods not typical at your normal grocery store.Fun to visit but on this visit (8-20-18 around 8:00 pm) we found a lot of empty shelves, unmarked prices and typical Giant Eagle prices. Peaches and nectarines were hard and they had 3 plums left (of the ones on sale).Probably will stop back some time.
I stopped to get flowers for a funeral. The woman that waited on my was fantastic! She was so gracious. She arranged a doz. In tissue and made it look special.
Shelves have actually been stocked. Just get the lunchable deal straightened out and we gucci

Ok, but the prices are too high. Prefer Trader Joes or Audis. Since they arent giving bags away, I find myself buying less ..which is good for me not to buy things that I really dont need.
If I could do a review with zero stars, I would have. There is probably a way but I didnt waste one second to research. I literally witnessed a cashier name Linda being very rude to an Indian couple, .her presentation was awful maybe has a hard life, not sure, but no need for dirty. Regardless, she checked out the customers in front of me, and then started on my order, very unfriendly . The customers waited politely until she was done checking me out and then said excuse me, my pricing on my receipt is incorrect. She pointed to the customer service desk and said, Im sorry, if you have an issue, come back tomorrow when our service desk is open. The customer said but... she cut the gentleman off and said sorry I said I cant help you(very condescending tone) She acted like they were interrupting her in the middle of doing something important . Again not sure what her life situation is, but that really doesnt matter. How do you employ assnine people like that? This was approximately 10:25 pm 6/24/17. She was ok the line that when you walk in she is the first cashier you see, representing your store. Just awful.
They have a nice set up. Everything is pretty fresh and pleasing to the eye..They have a wonderful bakery and a great deli counter. There is a salad bar that catches your eye. Its so colorful because the types of vegetables, sides, olives, dressings & so much more. Different cheeses and toppings. They have counters where you can order hot foods and hoagies made to order. Then you can sit down at one of the tables at their inside eatery...And, as far as other grocerys go. They have pretty much anything you could want.. Give it a try!! Youll love it!!!
The best Giant Eagle in the eastern suburbs! Nice store layout makes grocery shopping enjoyable. Admittedly, there were a few times that Ive encountered more shoppers than cashiers which makes for very LONG lines. But more often than not, they usually have sufficient cashiers on staff (unlike Walmart). I do think that Walmart in general has a better self-checkout layout and process. As for the hot foods area, this particular Giant Eagle makes one the best hamburgers in town believe it or not aka: the Market District Burger which is a very tasty hamburger! That burger plus a Blue Moon from bar area is a great combo!
Giant Eagle has chosen not to provide baggers at this location. It’s 11 A.M. on a Friday and as I look down the checkout lanes I see elderly people bagging their own groceries. They have booze and caviar at this location though.
This store is a prime example of a quality grocer. No in-store hardware here. Friendly customer care. Fresh produce and a good selection of both organic and gluten-free items.
The good: Its open 24/7. Its huge, theres a giant selection and big variety of food. The bus stop is nice, good location, its covered and they have seats.I like that they have a pharmacy, and Citizens Bank and Starbucks and beer its convenient being able to do multiple stuff in one stop.The bad: The bathroom is always dirty, theres always water on the sink and floor.Its very overpriced. Aldi is much, much cheaper, its not even close. Like eggs are twice the price at Giant Eagle, bread is often 3 times the price at Giant Eagle. I could go on and on, everything at Giant Eagle is more expensive, compare the prices yourself. Whole foods is the only grocery store in Pittsburgh thats more expensive than Giant Eagle, but not by a lot.The cashiers are sooo slow, and there are never enough of them. Ive never been to this location and not had to wait in a line.Why are there like 7 different types of flooring in the store, carpet, wood floor, tile floor, brick floor, cement floor, different tile floor... Feels weird and cheap and incomplete. Feels like they started construction and they half way through changed their mind several times. Or feels like they ran out of materials and just switched to a different type at random. Just pick one or maybe two floor types and stick to it.I dont like the advantage card gimmicks. Why make your customers have to jump through all these extra hoops to save money? Why not just give everyone a fair price??? Stuff like buy one get one half off why? Why force us to buy more than we want or need to save money? People think theyre saving money with Fuelperks, but theyre simply not, when you add up the extra price you pay to for food to begin with, youre still spending more at the end of the day, and now you have to carry an advantage card with you everywhere and its another thing for you to remember and keep track of. And now you have to wait in line even longer for people to scan their advantage card and use coupons and stuff. The deals and coupons just create extra work and waste everyones time, its a make-work job.I dont like the ads they print on the back of the receipts, they just look cheap and tacky.
Im just more of a small town grocery store kind of girl I guess, where I can actually find everything. The store is nice but its just too big and unnecessary. It doesnt have a welcoming feel at all.
They rebuilt this store the right way, The construction process, I think they did a great job while keeping the store open. Also We love Peggy!! She Works the register at the Hot Foods.And We hope Colleen is Doing well!
I normally go to the Shadyside store. Went here for the first time today and got yelled at for not knowing what door to exit. I also observed employees being rude to other shoppers. I will not be back, and I might stop shopping at the one in Shadyside. Not how to keep customers.
Waterworks Mall Market District Giant Eagle is a rather large store. The selection of vegan food is limited. The salad bar is great. There is a restaurant in the store. There are three bathrooms at the restaurant location. The food menu is not what I am looking for. If 🍕 is your bag, they have a pizza oven there. I am not suggesting you eat it.
Had a pre order that was filled correctly and didnt have to wait long to get it or check out.
I shop here maybe 2-3 times a week, and each time im there im always encounering bigot cashiers that rather hold lines up to avoid checking you out at their register. Most employees at this location are bunch of racist grandmothers that never was or is anything, and its sad to see an establishment loose its moral values for their customers. its 2018 people grow up.

Excellent food and nice workers
I bought expensive dog food at this store that was not put into my bag, when my order was very small and there is no way that two bags were needed. I called them to explain the situation and they said they couldn’t do anything because I didn’t use my giant eagle advantage card.
Excellent peppermint mocha made exactly how i like it even tho they were busy at Starbucks the wait was quick. I would definitely go back they always give me wat i want never no problems n outstanding!!
Great variety of produce, meats, staples, etc.; nice bakery & butcher; florist, cafe and alcohol sales all under one roof. Nice specials and sales. No longer using plastic bags.
Will not be returning to this location. The cashiers don’t smile. We had to bag our own groceries. Every employee looks miserable. My spouse left some items in the cart and they told us that it wasn’t there problem because we left the store. Horrible management.
One of the better stores in the Giant Eagle chain. It is the closest to Fox Chapel. So they have high standard the maintain. Theres a Starbucks in the store and a Citizens Bank with an ATM. Everything you could ever want.
Dimly lit, randomly organized, and with an entrance that feels like bed bath and beyond didnt have enough stuff jammed into it. Not worth driving outta the city for. Someone at Giant Eagle just needs to copy a Wegmans.
Good store, and its close by and has all the extra bells and whistles that Shop n Save doesnt have. 3 stars because its always so crowded and the parking lot is terrible.

Four months into the global pandemic, they are shockingly inefficient at curbside pickup. 20-minute wait, automated phone number hung up on me twice, and when the groceries eventually came, the employee didnt speak to us.
Plenty of variety and people in the isles!!Staff was helpful and multiple self-checkout lanes available! Hot foods department is, without question, the best in the area!
This store has discontinued plastic bags, they offer paper bags at 10 cents a piece or reusable bags for .99 cent and the second at half price, which I understand is a temporary promotion. Just a heads up for the occasional shopper.

Amazed to say that Whole Foods is actually cheaper for many things (except meat, fish, dairy...). Being a 20+ year customer Ive wanted to embrace their innovation like the curbside service but our orders have been botched nearly every time. Broken eggs, forgotten food that was still on the bill, substitutions without informing us. Then I broke down and comparison shopped with Whole Foods Amazon delivery and the experience was flawless and cheaper, as long as I watched what I bought. Just puts things in perspective. Giant Eagle needs a wake-up call unfortunately but seems to be trying.
Yes! I went to Waterworks Market district today. And as I was in the meat section of the store. There was really bad fumes coming from the frigerator ,, where the meats like steaks ,,chicken ,,pork chops were at in back of the store. The fumes were coming up from the frigerator part,,smelled so bad. That wasnt able to stand and check out the meats. Also in the vegetables section of the store,, where the onions and other fresh vegetables were. There was also a strong odor coming from the fresh vegetables. Somebody or somebodies were trying to sabotage the meat section and the fresh vegetables sections. This place is a really nice place to shop. I think that someone should keep a watch over this store,, to make sure that they dont infest the meats and fresh vegetables with some kind of chemical. This is a serious inquiry. Sandra Ott.
I shop at the Waterworks Market district Giant Eagle almost every dayRecently they started a new format with food perks where you could get up to 20% off your food total.You earn these food erks by shopping andevery $50 spent you earn 2% off your bill. The most you could receive offthe bill total at one time is 20%.Two days ago I did a quick small shopping there and spent $27.90.On the screen it read 32% save on food or $1.60 off gas at getGo.I declined or checked no to save till I do a larger amount of shopping.So about a few hours latter I went back to the store and did $159 worth of shopping.So this time the same day I decided to check or take the 20%off my food total.I looked at my receipt and saw it knocked off $29.81 offmy total bill. Then I looked at my percentage after paying and it was 12%.I then asked the cashier why did my food percent mot increase?She said because I took the 20%.I told her thats true but if it was 32% before then minus the 20% would be 12% from my previous money I spent earlier.My question is why did I not get credit or a increase for what I just spent?It should read 18% or 6% more than the previous 12%.Reason is the $150+ I just spent is not accounted for.Right or wrong?
Very good selection: lots of organics, specialty foods and milk in returnable glass bottles. Wish they would charge 5c for plastic bags to change their hyper-bagging culture...
Market District, is Giant Eagle on steroids. With an Upscale-ish, customer focused flair. If your coming with kids, take them over to see the inventory taking robot, by the pharmacy, going up and down the isles. Theyll get a kick out of it.
If you are into losing your kids wife and dog all in the same place, then Id say visit this amusement park they call GE. It is a zoo in there.
This store is aimed rich people who apparently are not even able to judge quality very well themselves. I found the same sun dried tomatoes were actually almost twice as expensive at this store than other Giant Eagle locations. The markups on many of their products are astronomical. They charge twice as much for their meat, which is the same meat from the midwest that. most other supermarkets offer. No different! Also, in an obvious attempt to make people buy things, they keep simple everyday items like eggs and bananas on opposite sides of this huge store to increase the tendency for people impulse buy as they walk around. I am 71 years old and this store is really too much for me. I dont want to go on a safari just to purchase my daily needs. It always seems that some items at this store are always being edged up in price to take advantage of the customer as much as possible. I spent 19 years in retail. I know it works. If you just want good stuff for a good price, in and out, without long lines, dont shop at this store. It is a joke.Edit: I will that I actually saw a mentally challenged bagger, a male, impulsively spit on the floor once at the checkouts. I think I was the only one who saw it. I realize he probably didnt think about what he did because if his limited capacity, but some of these people shouldnt be working there.
The smallest of the area Market District stores, the Fox Chapel store feels almost like a an afterthought. The salad bar is miniscule compared to other stores, and the prepared foods/restaurant section is both confusing and understaffed.On the grocery store side, the aisles are cramped and often crowded. Overall, the store is dark, and hard to navigate.Given the recent renovation, I expected more.
No ice on the semi fresh fish and it looks old, dry and texture challenged. Some good products here, but the good sell out and shelves rarely see that good item again, kinda inconsistent.
Very clean, well organized with helpful staff that have no qualms with going the extra mile to help you find those specific chips your old lady is craving.
This location is just great. It has everything you need. It has a great deli and hot food. It is convenient for those who take the bus, the stop is right out front. This is where I like to get my seafood.
One of the few grocery stores around with no limit on how much ground beef you can buy in one shopping trip. 50-75 lbs of ground chuck? No problem and no questions asked.

At giant eagle they gave this neat phenomenon where everything cost more but if you sign up to get this card that tracks all sorts of data they give you a discount on lots of things. But the discounted prices are just the regular prices and everybody knows it, but they do it for the cheap gas anyways. Which probably comes from the people like me who dont have a card because they dont want to be tracked and use the store card. a card where they get discounts on their own gas? I dont know but either way this place is like that but everythings even more expensive. Because this ones premium. Thumbs up for corruption!
This is my local supermarket, and its pretty good, maybe 4 stars (the missing star is for often being out of stock of my favorite items when they go on sale). However, the five stars Im giving here is for the pharmacy. Without fail the pharmacists at this location are knowledgeable, patient, courteous, and truly want to help. Whether trying to get a flu shot with a squirmy toddler or encountering a problem with prescription coverage, these pharmacists always go the extra mile, even staying after closing time to help me troubleshoot a problem. You go to a pharmacy because you need something, oftentimes feeling lousy and vulnerable. The pharmacists at the Waterworks Giant Eagle Market District will truly do their best to help.
Extremely large, has everything, including beer and wine sales. Very busy and although many registers open, very few were express or express self check out. Be prepared to walk and wait.
This store is awesome anytime after 7pm. Liable to wreck your car in the parking lot. Drive safe people!

Well there was plenty of variety. The self checkout talked the whole time. It might have p.m.s.. Some bottles of milk were past their date. The gallon milk jug was all most $4.00. Folks, that is just too high! The soda was extremely well priced. The store was still open even after Walmart closed for the night. You know what? Yall need to move to Kentucky cause youll live better and save a lot of money. Lexington, KY come check it out.

I live the salad& Ive bar .and I love the many different regions of food have everybody there own idle .Korean,Jewish,..(no African Americans) thats another story ..yet all in all love it ,price is high unless you find a deal . I still have my reasons to Love the place #Truth

I love shopping here , good prices and I can always find what Im looking for and when I cant there is always someone willing to help me. I like the way the store is set up, also the coffee shop that I stop at Everytime I go.
The pharmacy technicians have attitudes, and are not professional. Theres a guy with a red beard in particular that is especially rude. Ive been doing my shopping and filling prescriptions here weekly since November but will not be back since the last experience.

At the lack of quality organic meat has negatively affected my shopping trips here. Today I needed organic steaks, the only organic meat they have is Thomas Farms. An AUSTRALIAN producer of (only) HALAL meat. So, this meat travels half way arrive the world to get to your table, instead of being sourced locally.The problem is HALAL meat is 3rd rate meat that is butchered inhumanely and tastes awfully. Considering that giant eagle charges a premium for what is a Walmart/Aldis discount store brand (b/c disgusting & no one in Australia wants to eat it either).
Handled the pre-storm rush really well.

The six registers that they had open had average 10 customers in line.Once I waited that out, 18 of 19 items came up the wrong price .Attempted to speak to manager named Marcy, who turned her back on me and walked away as soon as I said hello, are you the manager?Fourteen different price signs are up over ONE type of bottled water.
I come here pretty regularly and know of a handful of people. Quite different than most of the other brand name stores but overall the common theme above all is its a store.

Huge giant eagle has Cafe and starbucks inside great produce selection only problem is its a very busy store and can get crowded but aisles are very wide so it does help

24hrs. Rarely are there long lines or wait times. One of the few places I know in the area that carries dry aged beef. Always clean rest rooms.

Great variety for shopping and best grocery store cafe in Pittsburgh. Only reason it dont get four stars is due to the under staffing on the busy Fridays.
This giant eagle is very large and has everything/anything you may need. Also, convient in store banking if youre a Citizens customer.

Employees are nice, and the cafe and Starbucks service is passable but the cleanliness of the store leaves a lot to be desired. Especially in the case of the restrooms as I have yet to see them clean.

This is a really cool spot with a small meeting place next to the food Court area where you can host small get-togethers and events. Also there is a lot of seating and a nice variety of food choices.
I like this place a lot. They have decent prices and a convenient location around other major stores. Its on the bus line if need be as well.

Do not go here! They do not provide bags. The ones they do have are garbage AND THEY CHARGE YOU FOR THEM! This place already charges double what any other grocery store does nad now they want you to pay for bags. CORPORATE GREED!!!!

Well worth crossing a bridge from the east end to shop here. Spacious, ample parking, never too crowded... unlike the Shadyside Market District.
Shopped there for 20 some years. Lately, I find myself skipping Market district in favor of other stores.Sadly, even though they offer a lot of different wheat flours the choices for other flours are very limited and outrageously expensive. Whatever happened to the 5 pound bag of Hodgson Mill Rye flour?

2022-01-12Last Monday the seafood section closed at 9PM. Two days later, they closed at 7.30PM. Now it is 7PM and they are already closed. Each time I go in, I ask when they close. Each time I ask, I get a different answer. I leave work at the same time every day, and come home to hungry children at the same time every day. I wake up each day and begin to cry, but there is hope! The meat section which is connected to the fish section may be open because somehow they arent metaphorically connected.Alas, they say go home to your hungry children and give yourself unto them, for we roll a die and decide our own random hours. Hello Giant Eagle, please either fix your website hours to say at the seafood sections discretion or set a straight time you close, because my children are now crying and hungry and I have nothing to give them. Your hours change every day and my children cry every day, do you see where Im going with this?Sincerely,Yours truly

2022-03-28So many deceiving subjects: #1 the front entrance states OPEN 24 HOURS but they close at 10PM and open at 6AM. Plus store discrepancy listed online (see screen shot). #2 inside sign BULK COFFEE section, they used to sell coffee in bulk (kept in barrels); however, they got rid off them to sell prepacked high priced coffee. ...and the list goes on.

2022-05-15Great place to find delicious eats to go and take home especially fresh sushi...The staff is friendly and helpful as always. This Market District is ALWAYS a great stop for lunch and dinner plus prepared foods to go for later. I love the diversity of the staff unlike other the Market Districts or even the nearby Getgo on the other side of the plaza.

2018-03-20Typical of a Giant Eagle. Everything is arranged just right, and easy to find. I am always impressed with the length they go to, to keep the store clean, and fresh. The only downside is that it is on the expensive side.

2018-02-25I only get to go here once in awhile since I live gassed away but I love stopping here. (Fat-kid style!) I esp LOVE the deli. I recommend the chicken pot pie and the white almond cake!! LOVE IT!! Their cakes make you want to eat them. There is such wide variety of many different products.
