The food was good ,wouldnt say great. I liked the ambience and the music that they play. They also serve local indian beer . The service was good. It was one of those indian restaurants I would go just to kill my indian food hunger. I wish they had more varieties and worked on making the naan better. Also I wish they had more dessert options. Had just 1 dessert in buffet.
I have been going to this restaurant since they first opened. The quality of the cuisine has always been consistent. A la carte off the menu or on the buffet the food here is flavorfully fantastic. The prices here cannot be beat. Its a place I always bring my friends who in turn bring their friends. I have dined at several other Indian restaurants in the Philadelphia area however I constantly come back to New Delhi whenever I want quality Indian food.
Wow! Best Indian Ive had in so long! I love that there are tons of labeled vegan options (order through uber eats). We got the biryani, baingan bharta, and saag aloo, and were blown away. Everything was packed with flavor and the portions are large. This place will be a new staple in my life!
Ive been here a few times and the buffet may not have too many items, they certainly do fill you up and the chai is included in the buffet, with sugar too which is awesome! Also the workers are very friendly, there is even 10% off for students and 15% if paying with cash!
This Indian buffet may be the best in the immediate area, but it doesn’t measure up to other options around Philly and the suburbs. The spread offers ingredients to make a decent salad and plenty of overall variety for vegetarians. However, the proteins, specifically chicken, lamb meatballs, and goat, weren’t quite the quality we’ve come to expect from other favorites in the area. Also, the size of the buffet is small. This means popular items frequently run low.Aside from the food, they do have a well-priced alcohol menu. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a diner with plenty of tile and a few flat screen tv’s, and the staff quickly cleared the plates. If you’re craving Indian and have to stick to this specific area it’s worth a visit. However, a 20 minute ride will present many superior options.
One of the only open buffets in the city. Generally always have rice, naan, chicken tikka, paneer tikka, pakora, wings, palak with ground lamb meatballs, daal, and korma or chicken curry. This is based off of about 4 visits the past few months. Always have gulab jamun as well as kheer and a full salad bar.
The smallest & worst Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Never coming back again- Price : Very expensive, too few dishes- Taste : the worst. Did not like any dishes- masking : staff wears masks under their nose, breathing out directly, but have been asking every guest to wear masks
Best Indian food in Philadelphia. My boyfriend and I travel across town (we’ve since moved out of west Philly) just for this buffet. Nothing compares!! You HAVE to go and try the buffet in person you’ll be blown away. Staff is nice and courteous. Restaurant is very clean and always a great time!
Good for the price of less than $20, taxes included. It’s super clean and staff are friendly. Their varieties are mostly chicken and they miss out on fruits like banana, orange, melon etc. They just need to improve their varieties and fruit options. Overall, it’s great and I will go back again. It’s worth visiting.
Overall food was flavorless. I have ordered Indian food from other places and due to the exotic flavors I often crave it. I tried this place due to the reviews, but this was a big disappointment. Just not authentic in flavors or cooking styles. I give credit for quantity of food received for the price, but overall quality is fairly poor. Not enough flavor and the sauces that came with the food was horrible! I wont be back.
This spot deserves six stars. The food is amazing and the service feels like your a guest in someones home. Everything is on point I mean everything! The restaurant is clean and the staff is very attentive to all your needs. My wife has been coming here for 22 years and Im happy she shared this place with me. If youre the type of person that cant get enough indian food this place is for you. Please support this business.
This is the worst possible restaurents that I have eaten so far.. ( 11/27/2021).Numner of items can be counted on finger tips. Toomuch salt on some items. Disjes are not tasty. Rice not properly coocked. The attenders there is are very arogent and irresponsible.. The price is very high... They are not serving for what they are charging... Over all I had a bad experimce aand disappointment in this New Deli Indian Restaurent in Philadelphia... Sorry to say that...
Weve been going to New Delhi since it opened - its a family tradition and then I made it a tradition at work. Some of the very best Indian food youll ever have. The buffet (when not closed due to COVID) is absolutely amazing. The staff is extremely nice. Highly recommend.
Buffet food was well prepared and quite delicious. They have social distance and pandemic food safety instructions posted, but are lax in their enforcement of these guidelines. Food is 4.5. Health enforcement is 1.5. Barely 3 stars from me. Would go higher if they held customers to standards. Getting by with acceptable lawful regulations instead of holding oneself to higher personal standards is what separates mediocrity from greatness.
Decided to drop by on a whim and so happy I did!! It was my first time there and I ordered the Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, and Mango Lassi to-go. Everything was super yummy! Big portions and they were kind enough to include a plate/utensils for me as well as packaging everything securely in general. I hope I can swing by when we can eat inside restaurants safely - the space itself has a wonderful ambience, and complimented by the friendly staff Im sure itd be lovely to experience. Thank you!
We went to New Delhi restaurant for dinner on a Sunday. We made reservations and staff set aside seats for a part of 9.. but I understand that no reservations required and also we made just in case they are unable to accommodate a group of 9.. restaurant was busy but still a lot of vacant seats.. they have strick mask requirements..food was okay ..this place is okay for anyone craving for Indian food..prices are pretty decent..we heard that biriyani is included in the buffet and on that day only rice available was plain rice..some staff are very courteous and I am afraid I couldnt say same about everyone there.. !
New Delhi indian restaurant is the oldest one in Philadelphia. Around 35 years old. It is also the best. I have had many fun times eating at their buffet with my family and friends. The buffet just opened back up after a long hiatus due to covid restrictions. Very fresh and a great value. If you like Indian food and live or are visiting Philadelphia its a must :). Staff is also always pleasent and happy to accommodate. Have fun!
I only do reviews when I really love or really hate it, and I REALLY hated it here. The food was not good, which on its own can be ignored and forgotten, but the service was terrible. We came in to order a la carte, but without even asking, they just told us about the buffet and left. They also seated us right next to the open patio area without asking our preference, even though the rest of the restaurant was mostly empty. We kept getting bugs and mosquitos flying near our table. One actually landed on my food, and I told a server about it, thinking he’d offer to seat us somewhere else. Nope. He just smirked and said “Yea, I know. *awkward pause* Are you gonna eat it though?” I said no, and he just said “ok that’s fine”, and left ?????????? What the heck. The food was also honestly probably the worst Indian food I’ve ever had - poor quality and the taste was totally off. The chicken tikka and paneer masala were actually sweet. These are the two dishes where I normally can eat even if I don’t like the other dishes at a place, but even those weren’t decent here. At $17 for the dinner buffet, it was so disappointing. I expected the food to be at least average. They also didn’t even clear our plates, we were told to do that ourselves. Not only is that unusual for a buffet, but then if the servers don’t actually do anything, why were there 4 of them for only 3 seated tables, constantly walking around and silently creeping up behind our table every 2 minutes?
My favorite Indian Buffet in the area. They have all the items I love and the food is always fresh and flavorful. Midweek is their busiest time and the food is refreshed frequently. They recently added covers for the cold buffet which prevents cross contamination of food items via droppage. I will return again and again.
My new Favorite go to spot for delicious Indian Food, including a fabulous buffet available at lunch and dinner. The buffet is absolutely perfect with gluten free and vegan options also, and all items are marked as such. Cold salad bar with fresh fruit and desserts and even hot chai tea.. The buffet is a great way to try different Indian dishes if you have never had it, or love it and want a bit of everything.. Their full menu is also always available. Their drink prices are Awesome with 3.00 wines, shots and beers & 2.00 Yuengling bottles. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly with exceptional customer service. Same amazing service Everytime-- days, nights, weekends. Great for fun with friends, meeting someone for a business lunch or just to chat, and even makes an impressive date night on a budget. Their huge vegetarian samosas are amazing and all the buffet food is spiced just right for anyone to try. If you have missed this University City gem please give it a try...Youll definitely go back for more... Also very clean establishment with beautiful clean bathrooms.
I like this place! They give tasty dishes, their menu is nice, The chef in that spot is very experienced, I enjoy a lot trying all their food. The dishes are always of high class, the service towards the visitors is efficient. I often go to this restaurant and I was never unhappy. I recommend it to all my friends.
Hands down THE BEST Indian food you will ever eat without actually being in India!! The food is as authentic as it gets, and theres a buffet! There is also the choice to order off the menu, but whatever you choose it will be cost effective. They serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The atmosphere is perfect no matter what, whether youre by yourself, with friends or family, or on a date! Just bring everyone here!!
I celebrated my graduation earlier this evening in this great restaurant. I am glad to say that we had a outstanding evening and the venue was surely one of the reasons for this outstanding gathering. The stuff participated in a very nice style, the cooking was very good and my friends were very delighted. We shall no dout come back again for more events. thanks very much.
Great food and good value. Probably one one of the better values for an Indian buffetin the city. However the service is lacking. The waiters let dirty dishes pile up on your table and rush you in and out. Its also very poorly insulated so its very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. Though the food is very good.
I celebrated my birthday yesterday in this delicious restaurant. I am glad to say that we enjoyed a marvelous evening and the venue was undoubtedly the reason for that successful event. The waiters helped in a very nice way, the food was extremely good and my buddies were very thrilled. We shall surely return for more celebrations. thanks very much.
Food was good here. The buffet spread had lot of items both for Veg and Non-Veg food lovers . The ambience was also very nice. Staff was courteous and friendly enough. The only issue we faced over weekend was parking space outside this restaurant. It took a lot of time to find the space because of which we had to rush as it was the closing time. So plan it accordingly.
Nice location, and great environment to go to. I went here for a birthday treat and also tried Indian food for the first time,. I wasnt quite sure what I was going to be eating at a few other places we thought about going to at first, and most locations only offer a buffet for lunch hours. So --- my friends decided this would be better beings they offer a dinner buffet and explanation of the food you can choose from. Deserts were good too, liked the mango ice cream. :)
My first Indian restaurant experience in the whole of the United States of America. My expectations were based on what I had experienced in India. Tastes definitely did not hold a candle to what you can actually get in India, and now that I have tried a handful of other Indian restaurants in the US, the tastes here are unremarkable at best.
Absolutely my favorite Indian spot. The waiting staff is always nice and speedy. Buffet is always on point. Never had a bad meal once and I go there all the time. Tried quite a few other Indian places around that area and I would walk right back out! This place is clean (including the bathrooms). Two thumbs up!
Ive been eating at this place for over 10 years. My first introduction to Indian cuisine. The food, service, and staff is always wonderful. They have excellent drinks and the buffet is reasonably priced. Best place in Philly in my opinion to get Indian food. Im here at least twice a month. My only issue is that for some reason ordering from their app/website wont allow me to have delivery to my apartment. Though, I guess thats a good thing in a way so thst I cant spend all my money.
Best Indian in Philly, hands down. The food is always on point and the service is excellent. Since I was introduced to this place 3 years ago, my good friend and I have made it a monthly ritual to come here for the dinner buffet (they have a regular menu too, but the buffet is hard to pass up). I have never had a desire to frequent another restaurant on a regular basis like that, but here you crave the food if you are away for too long. Normally I am not a big fan of buffets, but at New Delhi the food is always fresh and since they are usually so busy the food isn’t out for long before it’s needing to be replaced with a new batch. If you don’t believe me, go to order off the menu and as soon and you see and smell the buffet you’ll be sold.
Great spot!! I havent had the buffet (only ordered from the menu). We went for a restaurant week deal and a few months later for a birthday dinner. Tikka masala, butter chicken, naan, papadum, samosas. Its all been fantastic! Best Indian food I have found so far. The waiters check on you a lot and remove empty plates very quickly, which is great but at times it can feel a little pushy.
Came here for a late lunch the other day. the atmosphere was great! very clean, spacious and the buffet food was fresh and yummy.there are two reasons i didnt leave 5 stars...1) the tikka masala was too sweet and seemed a little burnt, like it should have been stirred throughout the day more often. it was just okay.2) one of the staff members was going around sweeping with a broom and got right up to my table and was sweeping underneath my chair and feet while i was eating, kicking-up dust and rubbish into my food....another customer saw it happening and asked him to stop just as he was moving towards her table.otherwise, a decent meal. not terrible.
Ive been going to the buffet at New Delhi for over 20 years and its still the best in Philly! Whether youre a meat eater, vegetarian, vegan or even gluten free, theres always something for everyone and its always delicious. Theyve grown to have delivery and theyve come to be quite a fashionable place since my college days, but I still love to see students going there for fabulous, affordable Indian food!
The food was amazing!! We went for our anniversary and we were shocked at how good the food was! We shared samosas as an appetizer and thoroughly enjoyed them! All of the dipping sauces offered, reminded us of a trip abroad. We each ordered lamb masala and naan. The naan was fresh and so soft and delicious!! We left full and awestruck at how wonderful the food and service were!
Ive been to some other Indian buffets before, but this was definitely the best. The buffet contains around a dozen entree items, and each isnt overly stocked. By that I mean you wont find a trough of chicken curry that gets old before anyone has eaten half of it. This means that the food is fresh and of a higher quality. It is frequently restocked when it runs low. There are employees constantly walking by and making sure everything is going well. Two things I saw that I really appreciated: Curry dishes can collect a lot of oil that, if you eat it, can make you feel not too great. This just happens as it settles, and is difficult to avoid. I saw an employee go and skim off the excess oil from the chicken curry rather than just let it sit and collect. The other thing was that when an employee went to restock the naan, there was a piece that had been sitting from the last restocking and hadnt been eaten. Instead of just piling the fresh naan on top, he took it out so that all of the naan was fresh. Its a small touch, but shows good attention to detail and better care for the quality of the food.Overall the experience was great and I dont have any complaints. The food was varied and delicious and not too expensive for all you can eat. Ill definitely be back.
They serve excellent Indian food. The buffet has a wide selection. I remember, this location was an African Restaurant around 2004 -/+, serving Senegalese food. It was highly rated then. Then, one day they suddenly closed. Surprising, considering the publicity they enjoyed.
Customer Service was great. I went in at the buffet time.Food wasnt that good except the chicken tikka masala. Fries and wings were cold, kheer was not properly blend. They could spend a lil bit more attention to make it a 5 star. Overall Im thankful for the food. EvyAllah!
They had a few dishes from the buffet I really enjoyed and the goat curry was especially good. But I must give criticism to their naan bread. They let it sit on the buffet for a while where it gets limp and unappealing. The better buffets will serve a basket of naan bread warm and fresh out of the oven to your table. The price is right, except on the weekend where there is a huge markup. Go during the week.
Weve been coming there for years. But tonight was a little different. Almost a rude like atmosphere. We ordered 4 buffet meals, 4 people. At the one of our guest wanted wine and to pay for someone else at our table. No receipt was issued but they continued to question the other people if they were going to pay. and never brought the wine. The guest had to go basically explain that shed paid and never got it. They checked our table as if we were lying. The wine was like grape juice. The meals are always amazing. But customer service was absolutely questionable tonight.
The food is fresh and delicious (both the main course and salad bar). Just wish they had a little more variety but everything is good. The restaurant is clean, nice Indian music and sometimes jazz playing in the background and nice wait staff. If I cant find a parking space, I usually find one around the corner..
Very conveniently locates and pretty great for the price you pay. I recommend it for the buffet lunch. I have not been there for another meal, but I imagine the food quality and pricing would be similar. It is one of the best options available for Indian cuisine in this price range.
The food here is quite good, and there is a lot to choose from. The buffet is a great option, so you can sample many different dishes for a set price. The buffet varies by day, so while there are constants, other dishes may or may not be available that day. There are also some items like chicken wings and spicy French fries, as well as salad fixings, that might appeal to kids. The food itself is very well prepared, and of delicious quality. The sauces are rich and flavorful. There are both vegetarian and meat options. The samosas and naan bread are always fresh and warm. Plenty of sauces to put on the side as well. There are desserts, but I usually just have more chicken tikka masala instead.Highly recommended. Lots of seating, too.
Been going here since the late 80s. The food, service and atmosphere are perfect. The owner is a very down to earth person. The food is always fresh and its one of the best Indian Buffets there is on the East Coast, IMHO and ive seen em all from Boston to Miami. And whats cool here is Everybody from every culture and ethnicity eats here. and everybody is very welcome here. Patrons range from families and students to local young adults, hipsters, artists to middle aged persons and older, college professors and even business professionals. Prices are moderately expensive for lunch hour buffet $10.99 or 11.99+tax/tip to a rather pricey dinner buffet pricing for the same buffet food items which is priced at either $12.99 or close to $14 per person after 330pm, i think. But double check that. Theyre sadly closed on Mondays. Parking is on street ane metered which is the only drawback to this place as far as I see it.
I am a regular visitor of New Dehli Restaurant, possibly the best Indian-style cuisine in the area! New Dehli offers a comfortable, modern dining area in the heart of the University City section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A reasonable selection of foods are offered in a buffet setting, the food is regularly replenished and is always fresh. There is a limited alcohol selection for those who partake. The staff is friendly and social. The facilities are kept clean and is always a wonderful experience!
They kheer was made of bad (old milk) with some rice & sugar. The worst kheer I could taste in my life. I order paranthas but that was little more than just a Nan, with little bit of stuffing. On top of that, the person (Rick) whom I spoke to was rude & very condescending. Better avoid this place.
When we lived in University City back in the 80s & 90s we would eat out 3 or 4 times a week and at least one of those meals would be at New Delhi. Now the kids are running the place, its been renovated by an excellent architectThanks to their dedication to serving quality food the dishes are always fresh and wholesome. Also you cannot beat the prices.I would recommend this place for lunch or casual dinners, kid friendly and a little curbside seating.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:Friendly and attentive staff. Sometimes though, its bit too attentive, if thats even possible. The waiters will be eager to refill your glass of water even though theres still 1/2 the glass remaining. Sometimes it was a bit too frequent of an interruption between conversations, but certainly cant complain over their willingness to keep you hydrated.ATMOSPHERE:Clean.VALUE:AYCE dinner for $13.95 is terrific and definitely well worth it. Years ago they also provided dessert with their buffet, a selection of ice cream which was awesome. I really miss their culfi ice cream, which was a pistachio vanilla type of sorbet ice cream. They no longer offer dessert with the buffet, unfortunately.EATS:Delicious! Theyre always consistent with having a lamb or goat dish. Cant go wrong with tikka masala, but theyre lamb saag is amazing.OVERALL:Great place to go if youre craving Indian cuisine and have the appetite!
Best value for the money with the buffet or even take out from the buffet. Take out is about $6/lbs. Considering its $12/pp (without tax) for dinner if you decide to dine in, $12 can get you about 2 container worth of food. The combo for me is the chicken tika with the nan. I can eat it almost endlessly. I missed the days where you got dessert with the buffet. I also miss my student discounts. Decor and ambiance is better than most buffet joint.
I had a surprise birthday party at this restaurant with family and friends. The buffet style setup was beautifully prepared for us. There were many different dishes of Indian food that we enjoyed including: Vegetable Samosa (vegetable turnovers stuffed with green peas and potatoes, Meat Samosa (turnovers filled with minced meat), Patata-wada (deep fried balled potoates with peas), Chicken Tandoori (chicken marinated in yogurt, herbs and barbecue sauce), Chicken Reshmi Kebab (boneless chicken flavored with onions and ginger and barbecue sauce), Seekh Kebab (minced lamb seasoned with onions and herbs and barbecue sauce), Kheer (indian rice pudding), Chocolate Pudding and Ice Cream. This is the place to go if you like Indian food.
Ive been going to New Delhi for the past 8 years. So much so that they know me by my name. Their buffet is damn near perfection. The ambient atmosphere is the perfect place for a date. During the day time Ive used New Delhi as a location for meetings. Ive had food made fresh for me to take home, eat in, buffet and scheduled and every time theyve surpassed my expectations. Ive definitely have throughout the past 8 years sent hundreds of people their way and as long as their service and great tasting food remains the same, Ill continue to do so.
I had the lunch buffet. Everything what they served was sweet. I am not kidding you. They added sugar to the green chutney that comes with the samosa. Their panner butter masala was overly sweet. The Aloo and peas curry was also sweet. They did not have any biryani option for vegetarians except we eat the dry basmati rice. I am not kidding but we do not need to eat dessert after the meal as you are so overloaded with sweetness in all the dishes. I have never eaten such a buffet ever before, where all the dishes have nothing to talk about in the buffet except being sweet. The cook really loves his sugar.
One of four Indian buffet places in University City within a 2 block radius, operating for over 30 years now. Has a decent vegetarian and meat buffet selection, as well as a side salad bar containing sauces and chutneys and yogurt and fresh vegetables. Used to have better dessert choices, now has a serviceable rice pudding and gulab jaman on the side.
I had the worst experience with them in terms of customers service. I was ignored the hole time i was there starting with bot being able to order as non of the waiters was willing to take my order although the restaurant was empty except for one other table and they had plenty of what it seemed to be unoccupied waiters. I was never treated this bad. I came by myself and asked for a table. I had to call multiple waiters to order. Whenever someone comes to me they just call somebody else. I was just trying to order. I ordered a chai and samosa. They served me the chai first and then one of the waiters brought the samosa in a box. I told him that I didn’t order to-go! He was so rude he didn’t even bother to fix the situation and apologize. I asked for the bill and he was late. I turned my face to realized that he was just talking to other guy while my bill was ready!!
Had very bad experience. They charged me 13.98 for biriyani and it was not even proper basmati rice. Its plain rice mixed with mutton curry which is basically not biriyani. Charged 17$ for chicken kabab that was not fresh and you can tell that by smell. Do not recommend this place
Great buffet price; about 13 dollars. Some of the dishes are good, especially meat dishes. Some are a complete miss, such as mutter paneer. None sadly compare to the namesake food Ive had in the actual New Delhi though. On the plus side you get a lottt of food per buck. And the lads working there were nice enough to acknowledge a brown brother haha!
I am a big fan of this restaurant and spend big money as I tell my co-workers about it...this is the second time I have gotten stomach ache from eating left over food not freshly prepared food. I just had lunch after 2pm Friday Lamb Masala and I am vomiting ...I should have know looking at it was so pale compare to other times when its freshly made very rich and red/orange. I toss it all in the trash...$16 just like that. I am very disappointed.
Worst delivery experience I have ever had. The GH driver showed up on time to pick up my food and the restaurant gave him the wrong order so the food ended up being delayed by over an hour (we had already waited 55 minutes, so in total almost 2 hours from when we placed our order). That wasnt the worst part - when we called the restaurant to see what was going on they took zero responsibility for giving the driver the wrong order and the delay it caused for our food to be delivered. I used to go to this restaurant (in person) all the time but I am so disappointed by the way they handled this experience I wont be returning.
2 things. I ordered Biryani a few times. I like it mild and I specify on the order. Despite my comments, the rice came in red in color. It was so spicy I had to throw it away. I double checked my order and it did say mild spice. I did not bother returning it because its already wasted my time. I did order again a few weeks later and this time I called to specify the spice level, I got a lamb biryani. The meat tasted nothing like lamb and I think they gave me goat. I had someone else (an indian friend who eats goat) to try it too in case I was wrong about it. It was NOT lamb! I hope thats a mistake and you are not feeding people with goat when Im paying for lamb. Im sorry but you wasted too much of my time and money for me to reorder there.
Not an authentic Indian restaurant. I along with a friend of mine, ordered the basic vegetarian items on the menu - paneer masala and garlic naan. The garlic naan was good but the paneer masala was very watery and tooo orange in color with no flavor. To top it off, the gulab jamun was sour (never came across that before). If you are looking for an authentic Indian restaurant, I’d suggest you look for another restaurant.
The food here bites back which is a good thing when youre used to bland food. Only thing is, after 5 visits or so, its trite, music too.The only thing you need to keep notice of is the servers who constantly stare at customers while dining and secretly make bets concerning the customers. I dont know about you but I loathe it when one feels the need to stare at me while eating. Its as if they dont know how to eat and are taking visual notes. So annoying!!!
A cheap buffet for dinner. I think that Tikka masala chicken is SO over priced everywhere else that I know you will come out of here with the belly full. Food wise, its a hit or miss. I have gone there when the food was so good. Chicken was not HARD and the flavor was melding well in terms of all the spices. But I also went there when all pieces of chicken were hard and simply nasty.
Awful service. The waiter actually shouted on us and got offensive when we said there is extra chilly and it burns our mouth. The point isnt that whether the food is good or not, he literally shouted on us. The service was horrible. The food was below average. Not visiting again.
Desis, beware: New Delhis food is not for us, especially not their buffet. Everything is bland and doesnt taste Indian in the least. If you are looking for something more authentic, well, Tandoor next door has a better-tasting buffet, and if youre willing to compromise on the buffet, Dana Mandi on Chestnut street is as authentic as it gets!New Delhi has by far the best ambience among the Indian restaurants in this area though, and also has very good service. Now, if only their food were a little better...
The food was good, the service was trash. Possibly racist too.Ill start by saying Im not accusing the staff of racism, however their behavior led me to question the possibility. So why is it the staff felt the need to block the exit after I asked them for the check? Ill admit I was impressed by their strategy. The tables were clearly set up to block anyone from being able to dash out on their check. Very clever to have two men stand at the exit; they immediately dispersed after I put my card down on the table. I waited to put my card down to confirm my own suspicion that they would move as soon as I dropped it. Upon putting my card down, not two seconds later was it retrieved by a staff member from behind me, the two men dispersed. I was being watched the entire time.Obviously this restaurant has had to suffer through dine-and-dashs prior to my visit. I want to know what about me informed them that they had to go on the defensive. Was it my age? Was it the way I was dressed? Was it my color? My advice: try not to be so obvious next time. You were about to get a tip. Here is your tip.PS Every time I eat at a restaurant Im directed to sit where the seats have some sort of defect. This time was no different. One of the chairs had a tear in the seating. I cant be sat at a quality seat for some reason...
I don’t usually post reviews but New Delhi is the best Indian restaurant in philly. My mom tried their gobi and agreed that it tasted almost the same as when she makes it. That’s a very high compliment from my mom. There other food is good too especially their kheer!!
If this review was solely based on the taste of the food I would gladly give New Dehli 5 stars. The customer service is what earned this restuarant 3 stars. My mother and I walked into the restaurant for Indian takeout. When we got to the buffet a member of the staff rushed up to us, said table for two and pointed to a table, No greeting. I repeated that we were not dining in today. After this interaction, my mother and I proceeded to create our platters and the employees suddenly felt the urge to take turns mixing the food. A couple minutes later the entire staff came from the back, stood by the check out counter and stared at us. If you thought we were going to dine and dash you could have gotten an extra star just for taking a more subtle approach. When we got to the checkout counter, they baged our things and we paid for the food. Before we left my mother asked if he had given us utensils. Seemingly irritated the cashier replied that he put them in the bags. We bought 3 platters today and only recieved two sets of utensils. Thank You New Dehli Restaurant!
Most accessible Indian restaurant in the area. There are 4 Indian buffet in the area but New Delhi is the most famous one thats been serving the neighborhood for 30 years. Its clean, wide, and has everything you would expect from an Indian restaurant.Compared to the others New Delhi is not as spicey. Indian food beginners seem to enjoy it very much. The venue is popular for college outings. If you prefer much more spice the Ekta or Sitar may be alternatives.
Don’t go by the rating. It seems like Indian people don’t come to this place otherwise it does not even deserve 1 star. Pathetic food. Everything seemed stale, old and made in oil used several times. How can someone mess mixed vegetable! Naan seemed as if cooked a month before, kept frozen and then served.Avoid this place at all.

2022-01-03Wonderful, flavorful food in a relaxed environment. The buffet is open, you must wear a mask and get a new plate when going to the buffet. They have a good selection of dishes at the buffet. It is an all day buffet. I will definitely be back here.

2021-07-02Craving satisfied. Delicious food is an understatement. Staff was courteous. Haven’t been here since we moved but definitely worth the drive. FYI: Buffet etiquette has changed since Covid, just look to the sign by the plates on how to proceed.

2021-06-14Our resident Penn students inspired us to try New Delhi and we are very glad they did. We did take out and the food was ready within the appropriate time frame of 20-30 mins. We had Gobi Masala with Basmati Rice, Paneer Masala with Basmati Rice, Mango Lassis, and Naan and it was delicious! One order is enough for two people or one person who is going to feel very stuffed afterwards. The Mango Lassi is such a treat- takes the place of dessert and has some healthy qualities so the guilt isn’t too bad. I cannot comment on the restaurant itself because I did not go inside but the outside is neat and tidy with a new awning and a fresh scrubbed face.

2022-02-09New Delhis buffet-style dine in offers a good variety of Indian cuisine at a fair price. The naan is soft and flavorsome, the curries are well-prepared and their chai (though it comes in tiny cups) is the best Ive ever had. Looking forward to eating here again.

2022-04-03I went to New Delhi many times (and loved it) back in the 90’s when I lived in the area, and we came back to Philadelphia for a visit this weekend. So of course we had to pay another visit to our favorite Indian place but were a bit worried the quality may have changed. I’m very pleased to report that the food is just as good now as it was 25 years ago. The restaurant is very clean (and modernized), the food is exceptional, and while the prices have gone up over the years, the buffet is still very reasonably priced. Specifically he chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, chana masala, and gulab jamun are delicious. We will DEFINITELY be back the next time we visit Philadelphia.

2022-06-20Their food is always good, however there is not a huge selection in the buffet, for better or worse. Definitely worth a try, if youre looking for a quick lunch.

2022-04-19Very poor quality food. The malai kofta was poorly made with lots of artificial red color. The frozen koftaas were stale and cold from inside and the gravy was just red colored with some frozen peas in it. I would never come or order from here again.
