The owners are SO nice and make my morning so much better. My co-worker and I LOVE their mocha...its so decadent! I just had the blueberry crumble which was as good as my moms (for reference - my mom went to culinary school, worked as a pastry chef when she was young and is an all around incredible baker).
GREAT coffee that keeps me coming back whenever Im in the city. Really nice staff, but hit or miss baked goods and frankly trashy furniture (Im talking taped up and stained, I even had to switch tables twice because mine were so unstable) makes me wary of returning. Wish they put more effort in to the ambiance, especially with a Starbucks around the corner. Great barista ( u know) isnt enough!!!
Great coffee (i got the japanese matcha latte), the almond apricot bar was very tasty and quick and friendly customer service !! just taking off one star because there was much less of a pastry selection that id expected, i was hoping to try their lemon poppyseed bar that ive seen good reviews about :(
I love this place. There is always an interesting new coffee to try -- selected by Mike, who roasts the beans right there. Edna, who is at the register much of the time, is super friendly and implements some sort of memory trick that enables her to memorize customers names. Maybe its silly, but I appreciate the effort, and it is nice to be greeted by name. The bakery items are very good (lemon poppy scone is my favorite), and it is so great to see a local, independent shop thrive. I feel a little bad for the people lined up at the Starbucks up the street -- they dont know what theyre missing! Places like Nook make me feel like Philly is home.- Alan
This is a nice little place to relax with coffee and pastries. There are many original paintings on display on the walls. I assumed theyre from local artists. The barista are knowledgeable about the the coffee as well as the pastries. Their service is friendly and the coffee is great!
Nook is my favorite local coffee shop in Philly. Ive been coming for years, though I dont get there as often anymore since Ive moved further out and have small children. But when I do, the owners still greet me by name and with genuine affection.A couple of years ago, they prepped an order for breakfast for my wedding party and made it available an hour or two before the shopped opened. All in all, wonderfully friendly service, delicious coffee and scrumptious fresh muffins (and other baked goods)!
Theres a cashier there who is super friendly (she was also there when I went about 6 months ago) and always makes me enjoy going. Its always filled with people reading or at business meetings. The chairs arent the most comfy if you cant score a couch. The window bar stools are the best to people watch.
Coffee is a fair sight better tasting than Sbucks. Service is generally friendly, but can be brusque, probably because the layout of the shop is a disaster: the line is obtrusive to every seat in the house, its loud, and theres no easy way to browse their goods (you have to get out of line to see any of the food cases). An interior renovation could transform this shop into an appealing venue, but right now, its a place that encourages take-out.
This is an awesome spot to drop in for happy hour or to watch Warriors Games. They have a cute outside patio and comfy couches in the back. I have to give an extra shout out to their bartender Mike who drove me home after I had waaay too many. He went out of his way and it was much appreciated.Nook Bakery & Coffee Bar
Was there for the first time today and wasnt disappointed at all. The tomato-mozarella sandwich and iced almond milk latte were very fresh and tasty. Not to mention, a nice woman at the register was extremely welcoming and friendly, which definitely made me feel good about this place. I spent there an hour working and it was a pleasure. Will definitely return again!
Lived in the city for 2+ yrs trying diff coffee shops and Nook beats them all everytime! I go every day for a specialty iced coffee, and often cant resist adding a freshly baked muffin, quiche, or sweet treat to my order. Also, the owners and staff are some of my favorite people in town! Amazing!
Nook Bakery and coffee bar is a quaint coffee shop located in the heart of downtown. There are only a handful of tables and a few seats for people watching. The coffee menu is standard and includes different types of espressos. They also have chai latte , matcha, hot chocolate, iced tea and hot tea. They also have breakfast sandwiches and paninis. The bakery case has scones, cupcakes and cookies. The owners work a lot and are always happy to accommodate any special requests.
Mike and Edna, the friendly duo behind this place, know how to make a repeat customer. The regular coffee is good enough (because ultra-filtered water and a french press are used to brew it), but if you want something different try one of the pour-over coffees. Mike even makes ice-brewed (which is not just a colder version of cold-brewed coffee) in the warmer months. Ednas expertise lies in the baked goods - try her lemon poppy scone or chocolate espresso muffin.
The Quiche Lorraine at Nook is incredible! It inspired to me to learn how to make quiche and although it seems relatively simple, the magic is in the crust. Nook has that magic touch and I believe that I have discovered. I can safely say that my Quiche Lorraine is close in comparison to Nooks but that wont stop me from coming in whenever Im in Philly. Love the vibe of the place and the housemade baked goods are yummy!!!
Restaurant with beautiful view, polite and enthusiastic staff. I went to 2 people calling 2 burning bamboo (with mango, chocolate, jelly, red bean, fresh cream), my friend called sexy bean. Sexy bean is quite good. Bamboo quality is also good for every bit sour mango, red bean is very terrible, below a lot of stone, jelly eat normally. A minus point is a rather narrow parking space where there is no driver. Price is also quite soft suitable for sv.

2022-06-15Nook is one of my favorite cafes in center city. Their dirty chai is my all time favorite beverage - it’s soul satisfying! The desserts are fresh and delightful. I love their pecan nut bar.

2020-05-26So happy to see that this coffee shop is open during the COVID Pandemic! They have the menu on their window and all the baked goodies displayed so you can pick and choose. First time having their coffee and was absolutely delicious, as was the blueberry crumble bar. You can smell them roast the coffee from outside, and it smells like heaven itself. I got fresh roasted coffee and can not wait to use them. Hope to be a regular customer here. Really appreciate their business in these unprecedented times. Great to see the community alive. We will get through this, and caffeine definitely helps along the way 😁👌🏻. Make sure you call ahead to order and for pickup!

2019-03-02Really cute, quaint coffee shop offering both chocolates and coffee.Atmosphere: The couches made the area felt very cozy and friendly, and they offer desks and electrical outlets too for anyone who needs to do work. When I came in the afternoon, the shop was relatively quiet, which is great for getting work done. With the additional comfy seating they offer, its a really nice place to catch up with friends as well!Food: Personally, I thought the latte I got was average and tasted a bit diluted, so I probably wouldnt go back for their drinks. The coffee did come out very quickly, though. Also, they did have a really cute assortment of all their chocolates, including hand-made truffles, which I would love to try next time! The assortment of pastries included several gluten-free options (predominantly fudge) that looked delicious, and very affordable ($1-2).Overall: , mostly for the atmosphere and variety of pastry options they offered! I think there are better places in the city for coffee, but Id come back to try their desserts.

2018-08-25Love this coffee shop so very much! Probably one of the best coffee shops you can go to in the city of Philadelphia! :) Great staff, great service, great coffee, great comfortable, quiet seating that makes it great to study/get work done in peace. Also, they have homemade pastries/muffins here that are amazing! They also have great breakfast/lunch options! I usually get breakfast so I have not tried their lunch items yet, however I have tried all of their breakfast items and I have to say their spinach quiche with mushrooms is one of my favorites! Their quiche breakfast items also include chips or a salad on the side too! Their homemade granola yogurt fruit parfait with honey is also one of my other breakfast favorites they have! They also have breakfast sandwichs, and etc as well. **Highly, Highly Recommend** if you are in the Philadelphia area to check this place out!!!! :D

2021-12-24My favorite coffee shop for pastries in Philly. I go there almost every week to grab muffins, croissants or scones for breakfast. You cant go wrong. Everything there is DELICIOUS and the owners/staff are the sweetest people. They are always very genuine, treat you like family and remember you. Skip Starbucks and go there instead.

2021-08-02This is my favorite place to get pastries in the area and its always a nice experience with the owners. I usually get an iced matcha and a chocolate croissant but all their pastries are amazing. I have also brought coffee drinkers there and they love it too.I believe they recently opened up an indoor ordering area in addition to what they did before which was online ordering for pickup.
