Ordered the lox sandwich. They don’t sell bagel thins so I asked if they could scoop out the bagel. Simple request. Other places do it all the time. The answer was a hard NO. I said, “I guess I’ll scoop it out myself?” They we’re just fine with that. The sandwich was good though.
OCF is the best local coffee shop around. Plenty of great drink options, delicious breakfast and lunch meals, and a bunch of freshly baked sweets if thats your thing.Their staff are always very helpful and friendly, and service is always quick even when theyre really busy. Never had a bad experience here and highly recommend checking them out if youre looking for some caffeine or a quick bite. They also have a lot of room to spread out including outdoor seating so even when theyre really busy, theres usually room to find a seat if youd like to hang out.Love the vibe and always look forward to return visits to try what else they have on the menu!
So this one star is for the pastries- been coming here for some time and the quality of the pastries went down. Literally had to throw away the rest of my blueberry poppy seed muffin due to it being dry & soggy on the bottom. In addition to this, the last time I came here- my mother had to get another pastry due to her cake being dried out an unfavorable. Pre-pandemic- the pastries were good; but lately theyre quality has gone down.
I was craving a lox bagel for a while now & came across this cafe! I couldnt be more satisfied with the sandwich & the prices were fair! I had the everything bagel & ir tastes very fresh & the lox was the right amount of smokiness! Plus, they make freshly baked goodies! This place is definitely a little hidden gem!
As others have commented, both the coffee and breakfast sandwiches were underwhelming. The service also left something to be desired - my partner and I ordered two coffees and two breakfast sandwiches. We got the coffees and 20 mins later still hadn’t received the sandwiches. I asked for a status update and then they handed them over immediately. They were just sitting around getting cold. No apology etc. I was thinking if the sandwiches were good enough I could overlook the service - but unfortunately the sandwiches lack flavor and are just straight up poorly assembled. My recommendation? Hit up Wawa for a sizzli for $2 instead!
We went looking for a vegan friendly place where we could sit down eat and do work on our laptop and we found it. They even have vegan cream cheese! The staff was friendly and accommodating. The place is large and has lots of tables. If you are in a group you can rearrange the tables to suit your needs. Keep in mind that outlets are scarce. My boyfriend is still raving about the vegan pancakes that we had. My tofu scramble was on point and that is some high quality thick toast in that photo. We will definitely eat there again.OCF coffeehouse is right across from the eastern state penitentiary. Once we were finished with breakfast we took the audio tour of ESP.
Had breakfast here and enjoyed it very much. It took us a couple of minutes to find a seat but it worked out in the end. The coffee is very good and so were the buttermilk pancakes! Just make sure to ask for real maple syrup if you want it, as breakfast syrup is the default.
I love this place. One of the best places to enjoy a cup of coffee or any hot beverage in an atmosphere of sophistication. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They speak to customers and go out of their way to explain things even to the point of allowing customers to sample one of their drinks before purchasing it. Great job guys.
Overall great place!Stopped by for Coffee. Latte was spot on! Decided to try 🥞 because, why not, right? Those were pretty good as well, was hoping for a little more fluff, but still deserving of 5 star. The staff seemed very friendly and the atmosphere here was pretty chill.Mostly people working on their mobile devices (which if thats what youre looking for, definitely the right place as well).
The baristas here are some of the best in the country! Especially Ariana and Emma. They have excellent coffee drinks, lattes, smoothies, kids drinks, breakfast sandwiches and more! Will come back every time I am in Philadelphia!Great for breakfast, lunch, a snack and coffee. And they have highchairs!
1st time-Coffee and PB bomber. Two months later- This my 3rd visit. Love the build ur own sandwich. Its cooked to order. So many flavors, I find myself deconstructing the sandwich to get all the great flavors. Very friendly people working here.4th visit- vgood dark roast coffee. Vegan omlette w side of potatoes n veggies-awwwsum. A side of turkey sausage (sorry) , spicey awsum.Im back (different day) I tried the lunch menu. The reuban sandwich was great
Two words Food Poisoning. The sandwich that they made for me at lunch. Directly after I ate it I felt it and then I vomited into the toilet and then later into the trash can before walking out. I had not eaten anything but whats inside of this cafe, as I am poor a just got a job there( obviously I lost it ). I had a bagel this morning, the bagel did not make me vomit; However, whatever was in my food at lunch caused me to vomit several times.
Bumped into this shop while waiting for a late client and I must say the coffee and food is really good. I grabbed the chicken salad sandwich and loved it especially the apple slices inside. My only little gripe is the inaccurate google price suggestion of $ when it should be $$ . A cup of coffee and sandwich ran me 12 bucks. Overall the place is greeted with an abundance of daylight due to the large windows and has a nice chill vibe.
Really good atmosphere! Love the open space. Staff seems nice and the food was great (try the turkey melt, you cant go wrong) the only awkward part is when you first walk in the menu is placed in the front of the store as if someone is going to seat you but it self seating. I loved it!
Good place to buy coffee when visiting the penitentiary. Inside is very spacious although you can only buy to go because of covid restrictions. They have smoothie and protein drinks too but no frozen espresso and milk based drinks like frappes. They have plenty of outside seating and good WiFi so you can actually get some work done in the sun with a nice cup of coffee next to you.
Good coffee, decent food but not many options. Can get crowded quick but has outdoor seating which is great in these covid times. Great space to hang out and work or meet up after a night out of drinking in Fairmount. Also great space to people watch or take in the great view of Eastern State Penitentiary.
This place is great! Awesome food, great coffee/drinks, and great service. It’s also very reasonably priced, which is rare for the area. We come here 2-3 times a week for coffee/drinks and sometimes food. The bagels are good and I highly recommend the lox bagel special. They always have a tasty special that is a little “different.” The breakfast sandwiches are also big, tasty and cheap. The staff is very friendly and always give us good recommendations to switch things up. Although I don’t do work in there, it’s definitely a great spot to grab a coffee and use the WiFi for work/study. Never too loud. Always plenty of tables to sit and the place is well-kept and clean. Great spot!!
Relaxed coffee house atmosphere with earthy decorations. Pleasant staff as well. Best part excellent roasted coffee beans with mellow flavor and not much. Coffee flavor is not muted. If I were to spend money for coffee Id go here.Didnt try the food unfortunately so cannot comment on that. Prices could be better but it is artisan coffee anyway.
What a terrific, friendly coffee shop! Our school group of 45 students was visiting Eastern State Penitentiary and arrived about thirty minutes too early for our scheduled tour. OCF generously welcomed our group and produced delicious hot chocolates for all the students. While some places would have been overwhelmed by our unexpected arrival, the staff at OCF were friendly, patient, and thoughtful toward all of us. Thank you for your kindness, and we look forward to visiting your coffee shop again....although we will call ahead next time!
Great coffee, though not the most extensive menu. Staff are incrediblely friendly and considerate, so please tip well! Contactless ordering and pickup currently, and you dont need to go inside to order; greatly appreciated in these times. Didnt get any food, but the cold brew was robust and smooth on the palate
Stopped in here to grab something to eat since I had plenty of time before touring the Eastern State Penitentiary. Im glad I did! The scrambled eggs were very good as well as the potatoes and sausage. The service was good and the portions were large. Definitely will come again next time Im in the area.
I am updating my review based on recent experiences here.Recently this place has bounced back. My last two visits were good. Service wise its always nice. The pastries are good. They have a TON of gluten free options. The coffee is solid. Ive had basically all of the salads and enjoyed them all.To be honest though Ive had some issues with the quality of the food. We found mold an a bagel one time but it was handled quickly and professionally. Food had been okay but with the price point I was a little disappointed.
It was an interesting little spots, I would not say it was so wonderful, but decent if you desire a meal to eat. When I first came in and sat down at the table in the back room, I waited for about 15 minutes and realize something must be wrong when no one came over to take our order. After asking one of the employees at the front, I was told that you must place your orders up front pick up a number after paying for your order, and put it on your table and await your food to be delivered to your table. There are no signs anywhere to designate how this process works. I mentioned this to the employee up front that my suggestion would be to have a sign up that says place orders and proceed to sit at table and wait for food to be delivered once prepared, her response to me was, people dont read signs. I definitely dont agree with that at all. They actually have a host counter of some sort with menus on it at the entrance of the restaurant to give you the idea that someone is supposed to come over and great you, but when nobody did, I assumed you just sit down by yourself and wait for someone to come over and take your order. I was wrong! A lot to say about a small cafe in the city, but this was my experience this morning. My only suggestion would be to be a bit more organized, or even say hello to people upon entering your restaurant letting customers know how this process works, since you feel signs are not a good idea, because people dont read them, which I 100% disagree with. Have a blessed day.....
Such a great find! Fresh, tasty food and good coffee. Friendly, helpful staff. I recommend the hummus — OCF makes their own bagel chips in house! So good. Also, this place is right across from the Eastern Pennsylvania State Penitentiary, so if you’re a tourist (like me), you’ll appreciate that this coffee shop is convenient to a fun tourist destination!
Really liked this place. We just stumbled into it the FIRST time and then came back the NEXT day for more.1. Coffee was good and milk VERY creamy. They pride themselves, so they told me, on the farm who supplies the milk.2. Menus for breakfast brunch and lunch are varied with good choices for all including your basics or something just a tad different / particular - Vegan and veggie only choices but not lost on flavor3. I settled on the special of the day, which was abundant. Was happy to see they had it again the next day4. Spacious sunny and cute. Not overdone but sticks to what it was. A coffee / food house.
Ive been going here for about a year. But I have to say good-bye. The coffee here is good. Also the food is pretty good. Definitely overpriced though. $10 for coffee and an egg & cheese sandwich? Environment is rather sterile and uncomfortable. My main issue is with the staff. A few of them are nice and friendly. Most act like youre bothering them or theyre too cool. Service is on the slower side. I always say thank you and they either dont respond or one guy just replied Yeah. Im done with this place.
I get it, Sundays are busy for places specializing in breakfast and coffee. But to expect a paying customer to bus their own table and get in line again for a refill fo coffee for a buck is asking too much. Not to mention the breakfast sandwich we did receive tasted like it had been sitting and waiting for some time. Therefore, I guess the answer is; there will be two less people on Sundays.
My friends and I were looking for a warm and relaxing place before visiting terror behind the wall.:) OCF coffee house fit us perfectly. Its located right in front of the haunted house. The place is cozy with variety of food and drink choices. I would recommend to try their almond tea. Also, weve got our cappuccinos with very cute pictures on them.
Very large coffee shop with tons of space and seating. There is even a large community table in the back. The service is okay and their drinks are pretty good. They have a lot of great little cafe and breakfast items as well. I love this location because it is bright and sunny and there is usually seating available
The egg-sandwich was hearty and flavorful and the coffee with oat milk was a delicious, dairy-free option! There a several different treats that cater to dietary restrictions, and the staff was quick to answer questions with a smile. Its a great place to relax or get work done and enjoy the unique backdrop of Eastern State Penitentiary. Would definitely recommend!
I was working in this neighborhood and needed a place to get some lunch rising over the slow. So I went to Google Maps Which is my go to search engine last week when see what Im looking for things that are geographically close to the jobsite. The rest of this review is from my phones voice to text dictating the NPR Radio News Report....... regular paper there are no holidays Toronto weekends going forward everything has to be on 24/7 basis de Blasio said the goal is to reach 4000 vaccination the flexibility about who gets the shots first one complication according to the latest estimate from City officials are so far refused to be vaccinated Brian Matt NPR news...
We had a great experience! I had a smoothie called the penitentiary which I suggest to others and all the other coffee we ordered was delicious as was the food. I like the atmosphere and crowd but also its proximity to Eastern State Penitentiary giving you a beautiful view of the prison.
A good place to grab a coffee, a unique smooth, lots of different kinds of juice, or snack. They have more substantial food offerings but I havent had any of those myself. Not a bad place to go to work or study but there are limited outlets so either go with a full charge or early enough to grab a seat near one.
All in all, a great experience . Nice space with lots of room. Their food tasted great, had big portions & the staff were super nice. The service was pretty quick & the prices are reasonable. They cater to vegans, with many alternative options. I have severe allergies & they were great about it.
Got the salmon sandwich on a cinnamon raisin bagel. It was a little tasteless, but overall not bad. The coffee was decent as well. Came to about $9 for the sandwich and 16 oz. coffee. The outdoor seating is nice, right on Fairmount Ave, directly across from the Eastern State Penitentiary.
With its wonderful rustic charm and cheers like appeal, I can definitely say this is place where everyone will know your name. For that a 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾!!!!Upon entering I felt at home and was greeted with a smile. But, lets not forget why I walked in... bathroom and water... what happened ....bathroom, breakfast sandwich and water. Yes! I could not resist getting a bite to eat. And, I must say ... the breakfast sandwich stole the show. I was given lives among lives. So, all in all this place is a MUST. Thank me later!
I love to work on my laptop here. Plenty of power outlets, & when the weather is good they open up the big windows for a nice breeze. Coffee is a little pricey, no large sizes really, but the staff are nice enough for baristas and the coffee is good. Havent tried the fancy drinks or food but it all looks good.
Good place to work with WiFi available, calendar of in venue and nearby events on the wall, lots of seating - both indoor and outdoor. Coffee is good. I spent about 2 hrs here doing some work with a colleague, its quiet with plenty of table space and outlets. The food being delivered to tables around us looked good as well.
Mugshots is one of my favorite coffeeshops in the City. I only wish I lived closer to it. They have great food (lots of vegetarian options). They have expanded the seating area, so you can find a seat now. Their coffee is also good, though a bit pricey (standard city prices). They have movies and other events going on there all the time that give it a great community vibe.
When you order the Draft Latte, the first thing you notice is that the ice sinks to the bottom. This is super weird because ice always floats. Well I just drank one, and the reason the ice sinks is because the draft latte is nothing but foam. So dont order that glass of disappointment
We needed a good breakfast before doing our tour of Phily. Came by OCF Coffee. I ordered the vegan omelette which was somewhat crumbly but tasty. Came with lots of veggies, more than I could eat. Coffee was pretty good. Lots of seating if you want to have your coffee and do some work, WiFi was decent.
OCF is a great coffee spot to get a full meal while also getting a lot of work done. They have fast internet and a large menu with a lot of healthy options. Most people go there to do work since they have a lot of easily accessible outlets. They also have seating a long the sidewalk for nice days. Its a busy street, so it is pleasant to sit out and people watch. My only complaint is that sometimes the servers forget your food orders. There are a couple of people who work there who are quite negligent and slightly rude. Most of the staff is awesome and friendly though!
Plenty of sitting & plenty of food and bakery options. I enjoyed my bacon, egg, and avocado bagel sandwich. However, what coffee shop doesnt offer almond milk or coconut milk! The only options are oat, soy, and cow milk. I tried an iced caramel oat latte and it was terrible, couldnt even finish it.
Stopped in here before spending some time at Eastern State Penitentiary. We wanted a brunch of sorts and after reading the menu, we decided this was the place for us. Plus, it is across the street from ESP so it was convenient.OCF has great vegan and vegetarian options, farm to table food, and brunch all day! Hubs and I both got an iced green tea and an egg and goat cheese bagel sandwich. They cooked it to order so we waited a few minutes. We sat down with out number for the order, and they brought it out to us. It was uber-flavorful, and filling. The place looks like mainly students frequent it as most looked college aged and had their headphones and laptops with them. It was pretty quiet for the amount of people that frequent it but we could have a general conversation without feeling like we were annoying anyone. They also have outdoor seating where some people bring their dogs and dine/drink.Note: they have a BOYB policy so they sell orange juice and Bloody Mary mix but you have to have the liquor to actually make them alcoholic drinks.
Decent coffee but not for the aficionado. Brunch was very overpriced and underwhelming. Wife had a great toasted croissant with egg and beef bacon she loved. My pankackes (3 for $7) were not the kind I ordered and were chewy. Sidewalk seating was nice, but once the manager who decided to smoke next to the basement steps ( yes, less than 10 from both doorways and not less than 5 from our table) it was not.
I honestly dislike when people find a good niche, make it hipster and then up charge for the quality they think they are providing. Probably had the most nasty Chai Latte ever and smoothie was not good at all for the price. I would not buy a drink from them again, but its a nice place to sit and work on a early weekday morning with your own drink and snacks. :)
The food is good and the coffee is great! A little pricy though. Its not a great place to sit and study because the seating is so uncomfortable, its all metal chairs. Really crowded on the weekends, you may not find a place to sit for 20 minutes. Weekdays are fine. Very friendly staff.
This place is very big and has a lot of space ,you wont have a issue finding a seat and the staff is friendly but I am giving this place 3 stars cause it needs improvement, first i was kinda confused cause I thought the place had waiter service because we saw employees bringing people food but you gotta grab a menu decide and then go to register to order and pick up a number and grab your seat and if your ordering a drink you gotta wait at register to grab it , it does not get brought with your food , second its really expensive , I was visiting from new York City and I felt I havent left , I brought breakfast for me and my bro two breakfast sandwiches and 2 lemonade plus 2 $3 12oz Coca-Cola all added to $30 and it wasnt even great , the English muffin was very hard and the eggs bacon (the only have turkey bacon ) and cheddar cheese was kinda generic , I mean it was very bland . I guess the one reason there busy is because of the torist attraction prison across the street and there is no other close place for breakfast . So I hope they improve
OCF is a great coffee house. Their food menu is astounding. There are so many vegetarian, vegan and GF options! They even have a GF everything bagel! Their build and egg sandwich is highly recommended as well as their pancakes! Then there is of course the coffee. The mocha and the dirty chai (2 shots standard) are top notch.
OCF Coffee House, located directly across the street from Eastern State Penitentiary, (now a museum) and a quick walk from the Philadelphia Museum Of Art is a great place to sit down with friends and grab a quick bite to eat. The food is a little expensive but it is worth the cost.
This place doesnt know what direction it is going in. It feels very industrial and cold with a coffee house flair, which leads for a mismatched feeling. It feels like someone who went to a local chain once but wanted to make it more like Panera bread staffed by run of the mill hipsters. Reading that this place is owned by realtors (which is proudly displayed on a TV for some reason) doesnt surprise me at all.Prices for coffee arent on the chalk menu, which is something I cant say Ive ever encountered in a coffee shop before. They do have a plastic menu to view, but why they cant display prices on board is very odd (do the prices change that often?). The cold brew is a steep 4 dollars. Its very good, but it is just too expensive to justify more than once in a blue moon. Nothing is marked, price wise, in the bakery case either. The bakery case is overwhelming and everything looks very good, but I suspect with a menu that large there are only a few great things and a lot of mediocre food. This place would be good to sit in for an hour or two to write a paper or answer a few emails. I cant say that I plan on coming back otherwise.
This place just cant seem to get their WiFi situation under control. Theres a pretty good chance youll be left trying to do work with no way to grab your files or search the Internet. Odd for a place that positions itself as a place for people to comfortably study.Otherwise, food is okay -- your standard quirky organic deli fair that, frankly, never turns out being as good as you would hope. Coffee is okay. Espresso is terrible. No idea how to pull a proper shot here.
Wasnt impressed. I thought the barista taking the order was a bit condescending and rude. I would expect someone in customer service to go a little further out of their way to be friendly and make their customers feel welcomed. The food wasnt great either. The egg on the bagel sandwich was dripping in way too much butter or oil or whatever they may cook it in. I ended up throwing most of it away as the egg didnt taste like an egg but rather more like grease.
This is THE best coffeehouse in Philly to spend a day at and get work done. Working from home is great but every once in awhile I like to get out and see the sun. OCF is my go to spot... turning into a weekly thing! Spacious, not too noisey, free wifi.. a remote workers paradise. They have a great brunch selection.. I had the eggs your way with chicken sausage and the new potatoes with the extras... worth a trip just for this. Oh yeah, they have coffee too :-)
OCF in Fairmount has been one of my favorite places since moving to philly. I’m within walking distance and I work from home so it’s a great place to go to get out of the house and work from. They also have great food, it is a bit pricey for what you get but it’s expected in the area. My go-to is the Black and Tan. I’m giving 3 stars because the past three times I’ve gone their internet had been down, no one has any suggestions on how to help and the answer I got when I said “hey, the wifi is out just letting you guys know- is there a trick or is everyones not working?” was “Uhm, yeah so just wait a while and it should start working again..” so I stayed for about another hour and nothing changed. Others were also having a hard time and no one would do anything to help. Bummed but not going back for a while.

2022-06-13Came to OCF before heading south for the Flower Show. The space is huge, with plenty of options for either a large group or single person wanting to work. The coffee we got was good, and while I didnt love the breakfast sandwich, it was still a solid experience. Probably wont come back just for the food, but the coffee is great and vibes on point.

2022-04-16I must admit Im more of a tea than coffee person, but given all the pictures of latte art I thought I might as well give it a try!I ordered a vanilla latte which was really good, definitely better than expected for someone whos usually a tea drinker.I also liked the chill vibe making it an ideal spot for sitting with your laptop and getting work done.

2022-05-14Chill cafe right across the penitentiary museum. Good variety in their menu and they have sandwiches and pastries! Staff is friendly and accommodating. They have a counter with several self serve condiments including simple syrup, a few milk options, several sauces, and pretty much everything you need for coffee and tea.

2022-05-15Great coffee spot with attentive and friendly staff. The venue is wheelchair accessible with a ramp that is the 2nd entrance on 21st and Fairmount. The tables are spaced far enough apart that a disabled person can comfortably navigate to the counter to order. OCF also has a wheelchair accessible bathroom. They also provide an outdoor dining option that is far enough away from the sidewalk enough that it is comfortable to sit and converse.

2022-04-24The coffee shop took action to lower the one-time use of plastic. They wont provide a straw anymore. Instead, they offer a stainless straw for $1.5. We had a smoothie and iced matcha latte. I dont recommend the iced matcha latte cuz the powder isnt blended into the drink yet. The smoothie is good. The shop also provided solid sandwich and brunch items.

2022-02-03Large coffee house with plenty of tables, great WiFi located across the street from Eastern State Penitentiary.I’m here on a foggy day, which is the perfect ambience to drink hot chocolate and write reviews across from a castle-like institution that opened 180 years ago. Along with my drink, I ordered an everything bagel with veggie spread. The hot chocolate could have been hotter and sweeter but it did its job well. The bagel was nice, crispy but soft with slightly too much spread. The ambience for getting work done is excellent. There are plenty of tables so you can have your own space. Floor to ceiling windows line half the building letting in as much natural light as possible. The WiFi password is: ILOVECOFFEE.

2021-08-04Dont let the exterior fool you; theres an excellent coffee shop in this old warehouse. Theyve got a comfortable, spacious cafe and their food and coffee are both delicious. I recommend the quinoa hot cereal bowl.

2018-10-01Love the concept, energy and ambiance of this place. It’s nice that there are plenty of vegan & vegetarian options. The food isn’t the best and is a bit overpriced. I paid $13 for a breakfast sandwich using the build-your-own-sandwich option. I was aware of what it would cost, based on the clearly labeled pricing on the menu but I also expected it to be worth it and it wasn’t. The bread was dry and barely toasted, the beef sausage was tiny and very over cooked (they sliced a small patty horizontally through the center and put one half on each side of the sandwich), the vegetables were good but it was such a tiny portion to charge for each one. The egg was good and cooked perfectly. I enjoyed my cold brew and my friends vegan pancakes were surprisingly good. The place was crowded when I went on Saturday morning around 10. When we ordered we were informed that there was a 25 minute wait for food. It took around 35 minutes for our food to come but you could tell they were all working hard to get everything out. The cafe side looks like a perfect place to grab a coffee and get some work done. I plan on coming back to do some writing.

2022-04-13Pretty good coffee shop, I do love the space, however my bagel wasn’t the greatest, it wasn’t cut and didn’t have much cream cheese. I also wish they had more but milk options, only having soy and oat, almond would have been perfect.
