Bart & the staff at Philadelphia Cremation Society and Ivy Hill Cemetery were nothing short of amazing! Very professional and respectful from our first phone call, the hiccups in-between, to picking up my brother-in-laws ashes. We couldnt be more satisfied! When we arrived at Ivy Hill, we were greeted by their staff and Cooper - the most adorable dog! Staff informed us if we ever decided to transfer his remains, come back & they would assist in doing so. That meant more than they could ever know! We had a small urn in our car for his daughter. They transferred some of his ashes without hesitation. We are truly appreciative and grateful for your entire staff!
My son died suddenly in Quakertown in early April. I live out of town and had no idea where to turn for cremation services. I called the local funeral homes recommended by hospital staff. They were sympathetic but wanted to charge $2100 to $4000 for the sinple cremation I was seeking. I was in no mood to prowl the internet shopping for a better deal but recent experience with deaths in the family had taught me that there are those who charge far too much when we grieve. I searched more and found websites quoting prices well below $1,000. But when I dug a little deeper, I found disturbing consumer complaints, mostly centering on bait and switch. Fortunately for me I found the Cremation Society and called the number on their website. Bart was warm and comforting. He answered all my questions. That night he emailed me a well-designed DocuSign form that allowed me to quickly complete all of the paperwork. I e-signed the form and paid via credit card. Total cost including mailing of ashes and extra death certificates was $1200. His ashes arrived yesterday. I am so glad I found the Cremation Society. They made the sad task of grieving the loss of a child a little more bearable.
Edit: I am calling on Bart for the fourth time. We called on him for 3 family members in 2020, and I need his services again in 2022. I cannot imagine a more compassionate person to call on than Bart when beloved family members pass.Original review:This is the third time my family chose Bart and his team to care for our loved ones who died in 2020. Bart and his team are compassionate, and professional. I thank them all for their level of service during a very difficult year.
I was so glad the VA recommended the Philadelphia Cremation Society. The entire staff was wonderful. Definitely contact this organization before calling a funeral home. A funeral home was going to charge me double the price. A death in the family can be stressful enough, let alone trying to figure out how to pay for things.
Bart did an amazing job assisting me in an incredibly stressful and sad time. I was impressed with the service level and exceptional customer service. I was amazed that this service was thousands less than the local funeral homes who were offering the same product and services.
I was referred to them by a cemetery and funeral home to save money and it definitely did. I paid half of what the cemetery quoted. Their service is generally good with one important quibble, which Ill get to. I was coordinating this from out of state, and the people on the phone were easy to work with. They outsource the actual cremation to a local cemetery which has the facilities and thats where we picked up the cremated remains. At this cemetery the ladies in the office who helped me were great. Sensitive to what they deal with and friendly and professional. The box was nicely wrapped and looked great at the graveside service. The one issue was with the gentleman who was my contact throughout the process. On the whole he was very responsive and helpful. However, when I gave him the social security number to put on the death certificate, it didnt get done. Consequently, the official certificates are all lacking that number and while that might seem small, its an important identifier. Thats the one star deduction. Otherwise it was a very good experience and I can recommend them with the caveat to stay on top of the details.
The staff of Philadelphia Cremation Society were respectful of my time. It took little effort to enroll and to obtain their service when I needed it. They smoothed things out for me. Their service was tasteful as well as prompt. We had the basic service and it was just what was best for us. Their basic and simple was tastefully and well done. I appreciated that I was not pressed to spend a lot of money on extra things.
My experience was magnificent. Philadelphia Cremation Society was very professional from the very start. Bart was so patient and compassionate. He kept his word and expedited his services, that made my grieving process so much easier. I feel comfortable enough to say that I will keep this company for all of my love ones.
My mother passed last Monday, after an extended stay in the hospital, but it was unexpected never-the-less. I knew she wanted to be cremated but I had no experience dealing with death of a loved one. My husband forwarded me the website for Phila Cremation Society after a quick Google search, I was hesitant because I didnt know what to expect and it seemed to good to be true. So I did a little research and decided that this was the place I wanted to use. Everything you will read here (in these reviews) about how easy this process is with PCS is true in my experience. Bart was informative and honest and never tried to upsell me on anything. A few days later, when I called on a Saturday to inquire about a time-line (i had forgotten to ask in my initial grief) I expected to leave a message, but my call was answered by a kind operator who took my info and Bart called me back immediately.. We arranged to meet up on the following Monday when I could pick up both the ashes and death certificate at the same time. The whole process was seamless and I was met with kindness anytime I interacted with someone from the company.
The Philadelphia Cremation Society made arranging for my mothers cremation so easy. They explained the process and cost clearly on the phone after my mother passed. They were very responsive, returned calls promptly, and delivered what they promised. I would highly recommend this service.
My family had an incredibly positive experience with PCS. They helped us navigate this difficult experience from the first call through picking up the urn. Bart and Al were so responsive and helpful. I’m so glad I skipped the gross funeral home experience (and saved $3500 in the process) and went with PCS.
The people that I spoke with from Philadelphia Cremation Society were extremely kind, professional, caring and there to answer my questions and walk me through my grief as best they could. Bart Cavanaugh was accommodating and sincerely genuine in his assistance with all aspects of what I needed to do. It was comforting, in my time of grief, to know that there was someone that could help complete the arrangements totally for me. I would highly recommend them with the knowledge first hand that they would do a good job!
I contacted PCS after speaking to the Delaware County ME about my uncle who had passed. I was his next of kin and being in an estranged relationship, I was notified of the death after the fact. Bart was so helpful, patient and kind. He talked me through next steps, was communicative from all platforms, phone and email. He also made himself available at time that worked for me, so Id be able to pick up the remains. Bart as my main point of contact truly made the whole process far easier and less stressful that I ever thought possible. I really cant thank Bart and the PCS team enough for helping us navigate. The pricing was also very reasonable and there were no hidden cost/fees or suprises. They were also very transparent in explaining the costs upfront. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone seeking Cremations Services.
My family and I looked at several options for cremating my mother including funeral homes. However, most of the funeral homes quoted us $3,000 and up, which was well outside of our budget. I came across the Philadelphia Cremation Society and they offered affordable cremation options that were well below any competitor. Additionally, I have been impressed with their staff, in particular, Bart, who was incredibly helpful throughout this difficult process. I would recommend the Philadelphia Cremation Society to anyone that is looking for an affordable cremation option.
It has been 4 months since my wifes passing and I am just now starting to feel some steadiness in my steps forward.I am so grateful for Bart and Philadelphia Cremation Society for being there immediately to steady me and help me to take care of my wifes arrangements. I was in no shape to deal with it and looking back I am so thankful for their services, their prompt responses, and their ability to execute my wishes.I was truly lost at that moment and I thank them for everything that they did.
Our family member passed away unexpectedly. We were from out-of-state and needed to proceed with final arrangements. Bart Cavanaugh of the Philadelphia Cremation Society helped us complete the process and it was seamless. His guidance ensured that that part of our decision-making would be suitable and timely, and it was, and we thank you.
The people at the Phila Cremation Society were kind, patient and understanding. They made this terrible task so much easier for me. After the initial arrangements were made, i received a follow up phone call, telling me that my cremains and all documents were ready and how I could go about picking them up. I later received another call, asking me if I had any questions. I really appreciated that they went above and beyond.
My family and I had a wonderful experience with the Philadelphia Cremation Society. Bart was kind and helpful, and answered all the questions we had before moving forward with the cremation process. Philadelphia Cremation Society has the most reasonable pricing around. We are grateful for the exceptional service we received.
We researched pre-paid cremation services in the Philadelphia area and came up on the Philadelphia Cremation Society. We were also told by a friend of their services and stellar customer service. The onboarding process was thorough and made us feel at ease. At the time of death for my wifes father, we made ONE phone call to Philadelphia Cremation Society and they took care of the rest - we could focus on our family. Many thanks to Bart and his staff as they supported us well during a difficult time - again, one phone call and they took care of everything, this is peace of mind.
Bart was the best. I called him shortly after my fathers death, he gave the best pricing and was very compassionate. It took me a few weeks to have the process started. I called on Wednesday and his ashes were delivered by Saturday morning. Excellent service. Just hate all the questions from the answering service. If you are Repeat caller, you should not have to Nswer the same questions everytime.Thank YOU PCS & BART!!!!
I received a recommendation for your services from a family friend and I could not have been more impressed! From the initial contact to the receipt of ashes, Bart Cavanagh stewarded the entire process with consideration, tact and thoughtfulness. I will not hesitate to highly recommend Philadelphia Cremation Society to anyone who may need their services. Thank you!
From start to finish, this establishment was ultra professional, caring, and clear regarding the services offered, as well as what they could and couldnt do. From someone communicating across several states, they responded in a timely fashion by answering all of my questions.Bart was outstanding and willing to go that extra mile to meet with me during my limited time in Philadelphia. The gentleman at the funeral home also was very caring and polite. I would definitely recommend Philadelphia Cremation Society to handle your arrangements for your loved one!
Quick, professional experience with Bart. My hermit brother was found passed on in his residence by police during a wellness check. After the county coroner informed me the same day, and asked for method of disposal, I searched cremation options in the area where I live. Phila. Cremations ad seemed very reasonable, and easy. I called Bart who handled it all, I just waited to hear back from him on delivery of his ashes. Because I prepaid for the basic package via credit card, I had his ashes , their notification to Soc. Sec., ( I had my brothers SS # ready), and 10 electronically filed death certs. - which were paid for by Veterans benefits. I had his ashes and certs.from Bart within 6 days. Very smooth.
During a very difficult time Bart and his staff were very patient and understanding. I had never used direct cremation services so I didn’t have a clue how it worked. My family and I were able to grieve with no worries. I would definitely recommend Philadelphia Cremation Society.
At a time of immense stress, Philadelphia Cremation Society (PCS) offered a unique service. We did not need the service of a cemetery because our dearly departed already owned lots in a remote cemetery. PCS came extra miles to pick up our Mother. The pricing for services was a deciding factor in our choice. The kindness of Mr Cavanagh in making the arrangements was greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend the services of PCS and will use them if there is further need. Thanks to all of the people who so kindly provided services.
What do you say about a situation that requires a person to call PCS for help? Well, they were recommended by a family member and they were able to support my needs via phone and email with 1200 miles between us. Would I recommend them? Yes. Bart and the PCS team took very good care of my brothers remains. Thank you.
The Philadelphia Cremation Society is professional, easy to deal with, and very reasonable when it comes to costs. I highly recommend the Society based on my experience with cremation of a loved one. As an organization that does one thing and only one thing (direct cremation), they have become very good at it. Theyre also very fast with all your requirements. If youre in need of cremation services, you wont do any better than the Philadelphia Cremation Society!
My father passed on and I didn’t know where to begin. After speaking with Bart a few times, he helped put me at ease that everything would be taken care of properly. And it was! He arranged pickup, delivery, and since it was a military funeral, he helped with all the details for that too. Thank you for all of your help as we needed it!
I needed the services of cremation in a hurry. My loved one had passed unexpectedly and we had both agreed to be to use the process of cremation. I had previously signed up with and joined another cremation society. When I called on them in my time of need I found out that we were not on the same page. I found the Philadelphia Cremation Society on line and they were Johnny on the spot and very helpful. They made it easy foe me to handle this sad occasion regarding my loved one. Thank you for your kindness, knowledge and concern.Donna Motley-Davis
Bart and Alan of the Philadelphia Cremation Society were caring, efficient and informative during this process. This was my first time having to deal with a loss and they made it all painless. They were so patient with me. I was referred to call them by the Veterans Administrations Office of Decedent Affairs and I couldn’t be happier with their recommendation. I recommend them to everyone.
When my mother passed unexpectedly and without a will or prepaid funeral arrangements, we had to find a cremation service that was reasonably priced, trustworthy, and quick to respond (especially during a pandemic). From the go, Bart and the team at Philadelphia Cremation Society handled the process with professionalism and care. Their pricing was entirely transparent, there was no pressure to upsell a casket or urn, and the communication was great, even after the pass-off to the crematorium. It was one less thing our family had to worry about during an already difficult time. Highly recommended.
We appreciate your willingness to help bring some closure to our family. Your quick, compassionate and professional services will not be forgotten. Never would we imagine the situation we would find ourselves in. Bart, you and your staff deserve more than just words. If I ever get the chance to cross your path, I would like to shake your hand and personally say thank you! You have helped ease some of the pain and burden associated with the death of a loved one. Bless You!!
The process of working with The Philadelphia Cremation Society and Bart Cavanaugh went exactly as promised, which may not sound exceptional until you compare it with my experiences with everyone else since my Mother died. Other companies quoted prices 3 times as high before saying they could cut it down to the same price, or promised to deal with things and then failed to.With PCS I was given a reasonable price, the variation from that price was just for additional products at reasonable rates, and everything was taken care of as they said it would be. That stands out given how much of dealing with the death of a relative seems to be designed to be as unpleasant as possible.
I cannot express how thankful I am to have discovered the Philadelphia Cremation Society. They made our family feel so at ease with the whole process of cremation for our Dad. Bart was so understanding and caring. The grounds of the cemetery and crematorium were breathtaking. Thank you soo much for making a difficult time feel as comfortable as possible. Our sincerest thank you for taking care of our family.
My brother in Law passed on in Philadelphia and we used the Philadelphia Cremation Society. They were very professional and caring from the moment my wife and I called Mr. Bart Cavanagh. Funeral Director Bart Cavanagh and his staff are expert funeral planners and truly compassionate people, dedicated to creating a meaningful cremation service that honored our family member and helped our family grieve. I can say this as My family was in this business for many years before retiring and if needed we would use this organization again. Also the Ivy Hill Cremation and Cemetery staff were also great in assisting us through this difficult time.
I found Philadelphia Cremation Society to be very professional and efficient. I kind of found them randomly when I needed to list a funeral home on my friends hospice application. It turned out to be a good choice. When he passed, I called them and they took care of everything including getting the death certificates.
Thank you Bart for always being professional throughout my father’s transition. You were highly sensitive to my needs and made this process easy for me. I highly recommend you. If you’re looking for a qualified person to handle your love ones cremation PLEASE call Bart. Thank you and your staff. Many blessings.
We recently lost a family member unexpectedly. The original plan was to have him transported to NJ for cremation. (He lived in Montgomery Co.)The NJ funeral home recommended we call Bart. Were very thankful for that. Bart took care of everything in a very timely manner. The office staff at Ivy Hill cemetery were very nice as well.If were in need again, well call Bart. When my father passed away 10yrs ago we paid $5-6k for cremation and they only hosted a small service.Would definitely recommend to others. Also, thank you for returning remains in a respectful presentation.
My father passed away last week. Three years in dementia care. His care facility recommended the PCS. Frankly, I was expecting working with an entity that was self-serving, at bestInstead, what I found was this:1. Pricing transparency. The price quoted was the price invoiced. No add-ons.2. The staff was amazing. I expected a minimal level of interaction, but this was not the case at all.3. Bart - my contact - was wonderful. He was focused on communication from day one. He was always available. He guided me through several issues such as how many death certificates i would need. He was amazing.I have nothing but the highest praise for my experience.
I knew my mothers wishes of being cremated and where she would like her ashed to be buried, but I knew nothing about the cremation process.Bart made the process simple and quick. He answered all of my questions and let me know what I needed to do. I would highly recommend Philadelphia Cremation Society.
When my husband died suddenly in an accident, I was completely unprepared for handling what came next. I knew he wanted to be cremated, I knew he wanted no service, and I knew he did not want his remains in an urn I would have around for the rest of my life.I started calling around, first with places nearby in NE Philly but then expanding to the whole area and after several companies that seemed to not understand what we wanted, I reached Bart at Philadelphia Cremation Society. At that point things became simple. He listened to what I was saying and just said Yes, we can do that.He took over and that removed a huge weight off my shoulders. They handled everything from collecting from the medical examiners office to getting me the certified death certificates at the end.Nobody wants to think about costs when a loved one dies, but I think it is worth saying here that Bart was the ONLY representative of a funeral home or cremation service that I spoke to who did NOT try to up-sell me on additional items or features.I wish nobody would ever have to go through this, but when it happens, I hope they have someone like Bart on the other end of the phone to help.
Bart and his colleagues are extremely professional and helpful, for lack of better words they are angels. We would not have been able to send off my mother-in-law with dignity if it wasnt for them. From start to finish Bart walked me through every step no matter how busy he was. I would recommend them to anyone looking to set up final arrangements, either in advance or like we did very unexpectedly. I cant even put it into words how respectful and helpful they were. Thank you very much Bart and Cremation Society of Philadelphia. Also their partnership with Ivy Hill Cemetery is a perfect fit.
The death of someone you love is difficult. During difficult times like this, separated as many of us are from the deceased and family, funereal arrangements are more stressed than usual. The Philadelphia Cremation Society helped make these arrangements as clear and straightforward as possible. Bart was able to see me through every step. Appreciate the kindness and the service.
The Philadelphia Cremation Society was professional, courteous, and understanding throughout the entire loss/cremation process. You would expect that to be the norm within the funeral industry, especially given the amount of grief most people are going through at the time. It is not the norm. In fact, Philadelphia Cremation Society stands alone in their decision to be understanding & polite and to offer non-exploitative pricing.Words cannot express how appreciative we are of PCS and the way they helped us with our loss.
Absolute God Send!!! God Bless You Bart!!! Absolutely amazing experience working with Bart at the Philadelphia Cremation Society in a truly horribly awful time for our family. Exactly what we needed. They couldnt have been more accommodating, understanding, compassionate, helpful and a longer list of superlative adjectives. Our family will be forever grateful!!!
I just cannot say enough about Bart and his staff. We had a loved one pass away in Philadelphia, but we live1000 miles away. Bart answered my call on a Sunday morning, helped us make all the arrangements and our loved one was cremated and returned to us within a matter of a few days. Bart was kind and compassionate; he didnt try to sell us. He listened and offered invaluable advice on handling all the details. Bart even took time to follow up and make sure that we had received the cremains and death certificate. Bless you for the work you do, Bart.Fondest Regards from the Harvey Family
We were notified unexpectedly of the death of a relative who had lived in Philadelphia and had no other family or arrangements in place. I called Philadelphia Cremation Society and immediately knew I had reached the right place. The receptionist was helpful and kind. Bart Cavanaugh called me back immediately and walked me through the process. His advice was professional, compassionate and completely accurate. Communication was excellent and he immediately understood our situation. He made a stressful time much easier.
Im blessed this service is available particularly at a time like this.Apr-16-2020 I was faced with some impossible emotional choices the instant my mom passed from Covid19. Social distancing made cremation the only real choice as I wasnt having my mom just put in the ground unceremoniously. PCS was fast but sensitive, considerate & thorough.3 days later my moms beautiful Urn is sitting here with me. I wasnt sure how I would feel, but Im blessed & happy I did things this way. Thanks Bart & PCS.
From the first phone call to the last phone call the Philadelphia Cremation Society was very kind, helpful and professional. Everything went just as Bart explained over the phone. Thank you for providing these services and also providing a sense of relief that things were taken care of during this very difficult time.
There is nothing pleasant about making final arrangements for a loved one.For many reasons cremation was my familys preferred option and the Philadelphia Cremation Society was recommended. From start to finish their professionalism and expertise with each facet of a very somber and unfamiliar process gave us the comfort and assurance needed to conclude my mothers final life episode with respect for both her and her family.
I live in Virginia, and my son lived in New York. He died in a car accident in Philadelphia. Due to the current public health emergency, we could not consider a funeral, or even consider travel at this time. Philadelphia Cremation Society helped make this difficult time easier by working with me by phone and online and provided kind, caring, and quick service. Thank you for helping me through this process.
My mother recently passed. I had no clue how to handle her remains. All I knew was she was to be cremated. I contacted the Philadelphia Cremation Society and they answered all my questions and handled all the arrangements. They were professional, kind and caring. I was fortunate to have found them and grateful to them. Thank you for making a difficult time bearable.
Bart Cavanagh, jr made what was such a devastating time a smooth transition when it came to services rendered to my husband. He was even within my area and decided to forward me my husbands remains to save me a trip. I am very appreciative of his professionalism and handling everything in such a timely manner.
When COVID-19 claimed the life of a dear friend I realized his status as an organ donor posed a problem in view of his cause of death. I contacted several funeral directors and got high prices and there were difficulties due to the nature of COVID-19. Fortunately, I learned of The Philadelphia Cremation Society and they gave a good price, an assurance of promptness and the paperwork was easily done online at a late hour of my choosing. All in all, my friend would have been pleased and I was comforted that I had chosen the Society. Best choice!!
I was devistated loosing my son. Bart and the staff was so courteous and sympathetic. One price gave me everything (transportation of his body, cremation, Urhn, and delivery to my house with the death certificates). I needed to send me son off to a ceremony. Truly I am eternally for them making this process so smooth
They took very good care of my loved one they went to pick her up and took very good care of her, there was a small upcharge because of her weight but that was understandable they were so kind and courteous and understanding it was a difficult time but they made it so much easier after this was taken care of a huge weight was lifted off my back thank you very much especially Mr Bart.

2022-05-10Bart was very professional, knowledgeable. He walked me through start to finish for the cremation of my sister-in-law. The price was EXTREMELY reasonable, when there is an untimely death, no-one is prepared. Philadelphia Cremation Society made it much easier for us and gave my brother a little piece of mind. THANK YOU

2022-03-17We were very satisfied with the service provided. Their service was carried out seamlessly with the coroner in a very timely manner. They were very helpful at time when we were very upset and stressed by the death of a loved one. And we were especially pleased with the container in which the cremains were presented in a nice shiny black a box. Thank you for your professionalism at a time in need.

2022-07-11Cremation services were not anything our family thought we would need this year, but we are glad we found Philadelphia Cremation Society. The staff was helpful and they walked us through a process we didnt know anything about. Pricing was appropriate for the services provided, and significantly less than other options we considered. We would recommend their services to others

2022-05-17I cant say enough good about your Company. Im sure all of your people are good, but I worked with Bart, He went above and beyond. He went out of the way to make sure I understood everything. I was wondering what type of mail was used, and do you folks have a tracking number? If you do would you drop me an email with the number. I was told she would be here today, nothing yet. I know its early in the day. I am a natural worrier, I inherited that from my mother.

2022-03-03Bart and the staff are wonderful. They were informative, efficient and transparent about all details from the beginning as well as sympathetic and helpful. Things are hard enough with the loss of a loved one, but PCS helped very much.
