Took me a week or so of constant calling back in July when they reopened and I had to wait until today 10/20 for my appointment. But it was an easy in and out experience. I had all my required paperwork and the officers I encountered were very courteous. I was only in the building for 25 mins. Now I wait for the decision letter, not sure what the process is for picking up though, just hope it goes as smooth as today went.
Auto redial app was installed, calls made from 9am to 4 pm, for 5 days, 27 thousand 849 attempts, no luck, and in person you are being told that appointment has to be made over the phone. with all do respect, but how? After 3 month from original review, system of applications was changed to online version. Paperwork took 15 minutes, approval 2 weeks, from approval to appointment 3.5 month. Took around 10 minutes at appointment.Change made from 1 star to 3 for speed in appointments.
Took less then a week to receive my approval letter. My original appointment was for October 19th but I went back a couple times to see if they had any earlier appointments they did! July 15thIf your reading this keep checking the website most likely youre get an earlier date.
I just applied for my PA CCW on Jan 27 2021 just 2 days after they implemented the new application process with the new online application. I didnt know what to expect but I was tninking it was gonna take a lkttle while until I heard anything. To my pleasant surprise I received a email, text and phone call less then 2 weeks after I applied saying it was approved and to make a appointment online to pick it up. This part surprised me a little. I went online to schedule the appointment for pick up and the earliest date I could get was the 2nd week in March. They were completely booked for over a month. So im hopi g the pick up process wont be a disaster. If anyone who picked up their permit from Feb 1st until now if you could post how long of a wait you had it would a very appreciated.UPDATE: When I went to pick up my CCW on my appointment day it only took 5 minutes and there was no line at all. I walked right in. They took my photo, printed my ID and I walked out. I was shocked at how fast and easy it was.
Been trying to renew my license for months. All the numbers are bogus. Even when you call the main number and try being transfered into the appointment line. All you get is a consistant busy signal. This is acceptable and unfair to law abiding citizens just trying to renew or apply. Do better!! Set up an online appointment option its 2020 why isnt this already an option.10/16/20I decided to try to call both numbers in the 8am hour although it says on the website to call at 830a. I did this to see if either of these numbers ring at any hour. Well they dont the line was busy at 8am not 8:01 or 8:02. I truly believe this has absolutely nothing to do with Covid19 anymore. Now Im on the search to find out who I need to file my complaint with. Ill be back!!
I know the Philly gun permit unit has had some rough times this past year with delays and closings, but things are really back on track. I submitted my application via e-mail and received an approval within two weeks. Afterwards, I called and scheduled an appointment to pick up my permit. When I tell you I was there for no longer than 5 minutes, I mean it. I got my picture taken, gave my money order and was out the door incredibly fast.
Whole process went pretty smooth, took about 2 months from handing in my application to walking out with my LTC. All the staff were cool and friendly. I’d say the only downfall here is the Covid protocol (which I understand is necessary) which causes pretty long wait times and the phone lines which are pretty difficult to get through. I’m sure there are much more proficient ways to be able to handle more applicants and pickups while still remaining sanitary, someone just has to take the initiative and implement them. Keep up the good work LEOs 🇺🇸
You MUST make an appointment in order to get the interview. Mine was 6 weeks after I made the phone call. You cannot just walk up and get interviewed. It also took me a couple of days calling to have someone pick up the phone. When I was there I heard no phones ringing at all.
I try my best when I want online to get my my Philadelphia gun control camera permit every time I want one line will not let me get in there six to seven times and will really gets me they told me to do it on the Android phone will not let me online for my gun carrying permit the lady at the desk always tries to do her best I want to know how I can get my permit theres no appointments or nothing but the best part about it the Philadelphia state troopers send me out two pieces of paper to fill it out I want to see what goes on Im trying my best to get my to get my Philadelphia gun permitgun permit to be up to date
I’m giving 2 stars because the website seems to be up to date with most accurate information. There is also a sign on the door. However, when in the world does anyone ever answer the phone. I have been call for 3 weeks straight. Morning and afternoon, absolutely no answer. Is there a way that request can be made over email? Can we atleast request a phone call! This has been a disappointing process so far.
Finally got thru to someone after 3 hours of calling. Lady on the phone was very friendly. Appt is set for September of 2021 which is crazy. Keep calling the appointments will only be set back further and further. I asked if pa goes green and I could come in person. She could not answer that. They will more than likely be going by appt only for a very long time
I checked their website continuously since March... When the opportunity was available I made my appointment over the phone and was given a date which happened to be today. I went to my appointment and the officers were very curteous and polite. I really appreciated their professionalism and hospitality.. Thank you much..
Just like everyone has stated. We’re calling BOTH NUMBERS and it’s no answer just a busy dial tone then it hangs up. What’s the point of having those numbers up on the website if y’all not doing your job to answer the phone. But if we the people pull up and show out we’re at fault. Miss me with that. ANSWER THE PHONES!!!EDIT: Phones are still busy, can’t get through to anyone.. Why are you guys not picking up the phones ? It’s our right to exercise our 2nd Amendment..
Why aren’t you guys answering the phone? I’m new to this process, but so far I’ve had to call 4 days in a row and still haven’t been able to reach anyone over the phone. It seems as if the phone is intentionally being left unanswered, but that’s also the only way to book an appointment now so is there another way to get in touch??
The wait was a bit long but all the officers were very pleasant and the female officer that handled my paperwork was VERY HELPFUL, have not received my permit yet and its been a wait due to Covid 19 but my experience was a good one 👍 for having to deal with so many different attitudes.
How can anyone possibly get a appointment when you NEVER answer the phone . I’ve been calling since the reopening every weekday, I applied for my license before the entire pandemic and by time my 40 days were up u guys where closed why can’t this part of the process be handled online or at-least signing up for appointments should be online u refuse to let anyone in but refuse to take calls to get a appointment Bassically disabling Any law abiding citizen from exercising their “right” to carry a gun while making it seem like it’s really just a privilege for those with police family
Todays update Feb 4 2021...I was early for my appointment and they took me in the building around 8am...they ask for your drivers license or ID and your approval email with your file number so having it ready will help them help you...they verify you have an appointment, after seeing your paperwork you take your picture...sign a document and they give u a packet about the rules and how to speak with law enforcement(READ IT!!!) they were very friendly and straight forward...if something goes wrong it’s more than likely YOU, not them
I was almost arrested tonight due to their incompetence. The permit that was provided to me had a typo in my last name, and they also put in my social security information incorrectly, making it almost impossible for law enforcement to check on the spot. The latter I had no ability to check or evaluate. Luckily I had my firearm permit application in the glove box of my vehicle. This is after 4 weeks of checks versus 15 minutes of review prior to this at the Bucks County office out of Doylestown.Response to below: absolutely. I will be at your location as soon as I am able, hopefully before 11 am.
Its June 18, 2020. Showed up at 8:15 and stood next to the door. An officer came from around the side of the building and told me that they were not open to the public yet. They havent updated their website to reflect this. So if youre thinking about going, check first to see if theyre open. There is a phone # at the bottom of their web page.
Wallet was stolen month ago. Make the police report and get all paperwork I need go to permit office and they tell me within 2 weeks I’ll get my paperwork to get my new one. Here we are 3 weeks later can’t get through to anybody on the phone so I take off work to get to the permit office wait 2 entire hours to finally be seen mind u I was there before opening and get told oh we’re backed up give it another week. Are u kidding me!?!? As more than half the employees in the office are just standing and walking around aimlessly.
Ive been reading some of the negative comment. What slows the process is people come unprepared, not having money orders, not having proper ID or paperwork, not listening when their name is called, hanging outside expecting the staff to get them. Parking is a problem so youre on your own. Be curteous, have patience, be prepared.
Prepare to be in here for 3+hours. It’s not as bad as the DMV but it’s still really inconvenient. You have to park a quarter mile down the street on Erie so prepare to take a hike as well. If you thought the wait was long to get interviewed just wait until you have to wait again to get your fingerprints done. Its not a good time but it’s a necessity so clear your schedule and prep up something to occupy your time.
Intially I had a really negative and confusing experience here. I was given information that was not correct.Thankfully, one of the officers in charge here noticed the mistake and immediately went out of his way to fix my situation within an hour.Great job.Could still benefit from some process modernization, but at least some of the people working here care about doing a good job and are trying.
January 2nd is not a holiday. Why are you close? Why is there absolutely NO PARKING??? Theres a paper that states all vehicles that park in front, across, and around the building will get ticket. Where do I park then??? Why is there no instructions on to where to park.
This is the place where you go to get registered to carry a firearm in the city of Philadelphia. The hours are very limited, which is kind of inconvenient if you work a nine-to-five for you will have to probably call out of work to get your license to carry a firearm. The parking is horrible . Do not park on the side of the building . They are for the police officers only and you will be towed .The officers in here are very nice and they seem to be very organized so they will get you in as quickly as possible. It is very crowded so my recommendation is to go for 8:30. There will probably already be a line.
I went there almost at the beginning of March, the place was too small, the chairs were squeezed together, very depressed, dozens of people were inside! Waiting in line for a long time, it took about 3 hours in it, but the process was quite smooth. The staff I met was very friendly!

2022-06-07The Philly PD gun permit division has been great over the years. I must have renewed my permit about 6 times and theyve been instrumental. You might be intimidated but theres no need. The new online app is extremely fast, like 10 days. It used to take anywhere from 4 to 10 weeks. Not too often the government gets more efficient but they did here. Thanks.

2021-12-22You get there to pick up your license to carry and they make you stand in 40 degree weather for 15 minutes and then tell you that you’re 20 minutes late for your appointment and you have to reschedule. It’s so interesting to see how miserable people are in Philadelphia because when I originally got mine in Montgomery County, everyone was pleasant and resourceful. Meanwhile my cousin picked his up last week an hour late because he overslept and they laughed about it and allowed him to take his picture and get his license… Interesting… Inconsistent… Poor service… Lack of integrity…Update: When I returned it was like night and day! The men were so happy, welcoming and pleasant! I even mentioned I was rushing over so I wouldn’t be late and the guy says “we have to be here until 10 anyways, the goal is to get you in and out so it wouldn’t have been an issue” It just goes to show that misery loves company because the great customer service came so easily. If I was just rating off this experience it’d be a 5 star rating hands down.

2020-08-31I went in person last week with all docs in hand, only to be turned away saying that an appointment needed to be made first. I had tried calling the number provided on line before I went but the call was never answered. I did take a photo of the information posted on the door and the phone number was different, so I was able to call. That turned out to be the biggest blow of all. My appt was scheduled for 8/30/2021!.

2022-02-03Arrived a few minutes early and there was only one other person in line. I was in and out on under 10 minutes and everyone was nice and professional. Easy process.

2019-10-21I went in to drop off my application for my permit renewal. And I was only there for 40 minutes. But that is because I came early and had all my necessary documents.People that are complaining about this place came late and/or didnt have all the proper paperwork. That was their fault, not the staffs.Everything you need to know is on the permit application. Follow the instructions(they are not rocket science)and you shouldnt have any problems.Update:Took about 3 weeks for me to get my approval letter. Once again, I arrived early around 7AM, even though the office opens at 8:30AM. And I was first in line. There was about 20+ people behind me. They will spend a lot of time waiting for sure.I spent a total of 18 minutes in the office. And I was out the door with my new permit at 8:48AM.

2021-08-23The lady that helped me was super nice, the man who served my license was also nice. The only thing is all the signs on the doors and posted to the windows are a little extra. I get it, people dont follow instructions but it looks tacky and unprofessional for a police unit. From my experience online, it was really easy, the wait time to pick up your license however is lengthy. I had to schedule mine 3-4 weeks after it was approved.
