Went in there not looking for anything too in particular. I would think for a place that size they would have a decent selection of reissues or an ok amount of selection( I was looking for a Stones album) but there was close to nothing, and even when there were records, they were overpriced and/or extremely vintage. The customer service there was also nasty. Considering at one point I was specifically going to make a trip there from across philly, I’m glad I went because I was only in the area because I would’ve been extremely dissatisfied.
Great spot. I have found some incredible records digging through the bins and crates here... and all at very affordable prices. Most of the records are in pretty solid condition overall, which is a bonus. Staff is alright. Organization is a little rough, but that’s what makes the digging part fun for me. Always finding something new here. Definitely recommended.
This place is good for finding cheap records that may not be in the best condition but are still playable. You wont find many new records/CDs here but tons of old/used selection. Dont go here in a rush though, because you going to want to spend a good amount of time crate digging here. You can walk in here with $20 and walk out with a handful of records to add to your collection.(The stores organization needs some work so that is why 4 stars and not 5)

Not the most up-kept record store in the world - many of the shelves & records are dusty. BUT they have a TON of $1 disco, house, and reggae 12s. The stuttering guy behind the counter was really friendly as well! Gave me a small discount when I didnt have enough cash, only card.
So-so selection when it comes to bigger, mainstream old-school artists, but a really well rounded collection to shop overall. Tons of rarities. Guy who seems to run/own the place isnt much of a talker, more of the old, silent and wise type. Not the best place to trade/sell, but a good spot to stumble upon that hidden gem
Okay. Yes, they have records. No, they dont have new records or any vintage vinyl worth purchasing if you are looking for classic artists like the Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Beatles, The Cure, The Smiths, blah, blah, blah. Basically this boils down to a very entry-level, budget, indoor yard sale style vinyl buying experience. If you are looking for 3 copies of Pablo Cruises Reflector than this place is for you! Need a stack (yes, a literal stack!) of 45s no one has seen in 50 years? This place might be for you. There are at least 3 stores in Philadelphia that are unbelievably better than this store. I was very disappointed when I stopped by here given the buzz Fishtown has been receiving. Skip this dusty waste of a suite and go to Repo Records, Main Street Music, Hideaway Music, or any other vinyl record shop in the city. Sorry man but I cant wrap my head around how this place is still open.
I’ve never visited your store, but that’s not a problem for Google Maps Reviews because Google allows anyone, even if they’re not a “customer” to write a bogus ‘review’ of your business…even if it is just uniformed abuse.I’m sorry that you too have been victim of the “wrath” of Jonathan Downie. He likes to walk into small independent stores and if he’s not given undivided attention he gets mad, really mad. No hope of serving a genuine customer when Downie is in town. The problem is that Downie is a vindictive entitled abuser. If you respond to what he has written, he’ll telephone (internationally) and call you “a f****** a**hole” , he’ll also follow up with threatening emails containing similar language and declaring he’ll “ruin your business”. Let face it he’s the problem. And so is Google Reviews. They endorse him and reward him with points and feedback.which is especially offensive to me.
This place is either out of business or moved somewhere else. On 5/25/13 I went to the address on 5th Street and there was a sign saying it was moved to Frankford Ave in Fishtown. When I got to that address there was nothing but an empty store with a large logo of the Verve record label in the window. But no store to be found and no sign indicating where it went.
I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS AT 3RD AND SOUTH ST. I HAVE SUCH A TRAMENDUS COLLECTION OF RECORDS . BUT THERES ALWAYS SOME RECORDS THAT MAY ELUDE YOUR SURCH . PHILADELPHIA RECORD EXGANGE HAS SO MUCH AND IV HAVE FOUND SOME OF THEM . BUT YOU MAY HAVE A SHORT TIME TO SHOP . I FIND ITS BETTER PLAN TO MAKE A DAY OF BROWSING ( SURCH) THERES A GRATE CHANCE YOU WILL FIND IT EVEN IF YOUR WERE NOT LOOKING FOR IT. WHILE YOU WERE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELS I MUST THANK MAX GREAT SERVICE. FROM HENRY 11/ 25/2020 WED . HAPPY HUNTING. 👌

2022-01-01This was a cool independent record shop with a lot of records to dig through! My husband found quite a few records for great prices! The guy running the store was very nice too! If you are looking for some well priced used records, youve found the place!

2021-12-12Great independent, local record store. Lots of great finds - including music you discover when youre there. Its worth your time to really leaf through their collection, so make sure youre not rushed. Items were well-priced, and I am happy with what I was able to buy!

2022-01-11Cool place friendly knowledgeable staff. Plus not only do they sell records but they buy stuff also. Took some things I had off my hands for a few bucks. So all in all great experience. No complaints here.

2019-07-21Nice little shop. A bit unorganized with vinyl in boxes everywhere. The stacks contain a lot of the usual suspects, but there are gems to be found. Prices were reasonable.

2018-08-31Fun for digging and digging some 5 prints of songs on varies labels. Me and my Buddy had a great time .Spent over a 100.in 45s and some LPs.I just dont get the owner ..very drab no response on talking or fun on asking him questions. He was more interested in his partner or friend accompany him. I was excited since I lost over 4 thousand or more recordings from all sources. So was a bit down and I just wanted to connect to a person about the lost. And what he thought on the Booker T album he played on Stax records and ortofon cartridge. I hope it was not that I was Black. But its seems no fun in any vinyl resurgence places.Yet I will return to this place just because of the beauty and trying to build some records that sounds awesome then DIGITAL major hurt on a major financial mishap that took my vinyl from public screw you storage .But all in all this is not a bad place.Warning :NEVER use Public Storage. There killers.Of ones belongings.Enjoy my new and former Records collection.Darren ▶⏩◾

2019-04-07If youre looking for classic vinyl - this is a good lil corner to try in Fishtown. Just make sure to have some cash handy, its a $10 minimum.

2021-08-22This place is a great spot. Friendly staff. Biggest thing I like is how reasonably the prices were on the vinyl based on condition. You don’t feel like you’re being had here-just an honest business that appreciates music like their customers.

2021-12-27I have not been in the store before so my star rating is neurtal. I called them to see if they trade in dvds I have for cash but the sales clerk said they do not do it anymore. And that there arent any places that will. But hopefully one day I will make my way to store for an update review.

2021-09-20Great record store, and very reasonably priced items, especially in the CDs. Nice selection of out-of-print CDs. Blues CDs are in with RnB and Country in the middle section of store. Update (9/2021): I was happy to return and see that it is still the same record store as my first review here. Perhaps even better as their prices seems even more affordable now with the rising prices of vinyl. The surrounding neighborhood is becoming even more gentrified.
