Public Lands in other cities:
This place is a complete joke. They have unique products, but everything is just overpriced gear that’s typical for this areas yuppies. Can’t even get a pair of decent jeans for less than $89!!! No hunting gear either. Non stop employees bothering you from the minute you arrive. I don’t think this place is going to last. Waste of a good opportunity because it’s a nice store.
I loved this store. We went for the first time yesterday and I never knew how much gear I didn’t have. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They answered my questions without stammering or stuttering. You can test out just about anything in the store and even try to set up a tent before you purchase it. They do pack fittings and the whole 9. My honest opinion is they are just like REI but better. This would be my dream job.
Beautiful store. Quality products. Knowledgeable staff. I guess those looking for hunting gear didn’t know how to do a quick search of the company, Google and reading is hard for some around here. Maybe they don’t realize us people who like the outdoors have plenty of other choices of activities besides hunting. Great place to find your outdoor gear.
This place is 5 star plus! I have no idea why there are these reviews about hunting - Field and Stream could not make it. More Americans are doing the activities in this store. And one Bike? I am not sure what store that guy went to but the selection is phenomenal with a bike service and repair right there!Everyone who works there is so helpful and nice. The store has a cool vibe and filled with so much merchandise. I for one like that its a company with a conscious. We could use more like this. And check out all the photos they are from around Pittsburgh.
Disclaimer: (I am a hiker, preparing for a thru a hike) (This is to set the perspective)Ive been here multiple times and have had a great experience each time. Staff is helpful and want your feedback for future gear. (Even cottage companies) They broadcast a documentary on protecting public lands in store to bring awareness to our right as Americans to enjoy this beautiful gift that is our planet. Gear prices are typical I believe. Some gear you can be frugal about but good gear costs money especially if you are putting it to the test for days, weeks, or months at a time. Do your research about what gear fits your needs. And remember to have fun and protect nature!!! Yeah!!!
Honestly, Ive been to the place 3 times now and I dont think Ill go back. Its overstaffed with a ton of people that continuously bother you about things they look like they know nothing about. I saw one guy who maybe looks like hes been outside in his life. This place is great if you want to dress like you go outside, but dont actually go outside.
The store is really nice. The gentleman who greeted us at the door was exceptional. The first thing we saw was the rock climb wall. We took my daughter back and talked to an employee who showed us how to sign up with the QR code. We saw there were 4 open spots to sign in on in 15 minutes and my daughter was stoked. When approaching the gentlemen working the wall they said it had to be incorrect because the people on the wall just purchased another half hour. Bummer. We understood and walked away. When searching through the store we passed the wall a little after the time we would have scheduled and for the next 15 minutes no one was on the wall. That could have been for my daughter to climb. Things happen but it didnt look good from my point of view. Thats a lost sale. Also while going around the store there were a ton of indoor plants. For a company based around protecting the environment and leaving it how you left it a lot of those plants were completely dry and dying. My wife was extremely sad to see this because she is a plant lover herself. I think if youre going to try and keep that selling point you need to take care of the things right in front of your nose. Help those plants. All in all I loved the brands of clothing and the store was neat but Im not sure how often Ill be going back.
THIS IS NOT A HUNTING STORE. Stop whining. They do not market themselves as a hunting store. You have other options. They do have a huge selection of fishing and camping items, a climbing wall, and yes, high end outdoor gear. Some of it feels overpriced, but typically high end gear lasts longer and is a smarter investment over the long run. Service is attentive- that’s not a bad thing, but if you are in there when they are slow, there will be plenty of people looking to help you. There is value in the amount of expertise the staff has- especially if you’re gearing up to try something new. Frustrated that although they are owned by Dick’s they have a separate rewards program. If you want lower prices, cheaper products and clueless staff, Walmart is right next door.
This store is great, but if your going to shop here, please understand that is not a discount, generic store. They have a mix of medium to high end hiking/outdoor gear so if your looking for a pair of $40 boots, go somewhere else. I read the reviews and most people are complaining about pricing and lack of hunting gear...well, good stuff cost money and this is apparently not a hunting store. You should not shop at a $100 store on a $3 budget and then complain - walk away and move on
Dick’s Sporting Goods Meets REIThis was the original location of Dick’s Sporting Goods in Cranberry TWP.Great variety of products,Bike section is nice 👍Fishing Section HUGENo Hunting sectionIndoor Rock Climbing WallHuge Camping SectionLatest Clothing trends & Shoes 💰💰💰💰Great friendly staffSo if you want quality and can afford it go there ,if you want discounted items go elsewhere…..Period 🇺🇸😎
Was really excited when I saw this store opening and thought it would be a replacement for Field & Stream. If youre looking for anything in the way of hunting supplies dont waste your time. My entire tour of this establishment took less than 7 minutes. Hoodies for $90! Fishing rods, a few kayaks and extremely expensive clothes and bicycles. The beautiful display of animals on the back wall is gone and replaced by a climbing wall. Very sad. Folks HUNT in Western Pennsylvania. However, if youre looking for expensive, designer outerwear, ONE BRAND of bicycle and a fishing pole, this may be your store. Edit: Im enjoying reading the vividly contrasting comments on this business. When I saw it from Route 19, I too was fooled thinking this was a traditional sporting goods store. I honestly had never heard of PUBLIC LANDS.
As others have stated, be aware of prices. Some items have huge markups. For example, a vest that can be purchased online from the manufacturer at full price was only $99 but Public Lands is selling it for $145. You can even pull back the stick on price tag to see the real price. With their main competitor being REI, which has an established following and know for their more ethical decisions, I don’t how public lands will be able to sustain a business like this. Otherwise the look and feel of the store is great. If you like REI and the products they offer you will enjoy the selection here.
The store itself is nice and bright and fun to walk around it, but you pretty much just want to use it to try things out in person before buying it much cheaper online. It feels heavily geared towards wealthy, weekend, Instagram hikers, which is fine. Just dont expect much in the way of anything else. Its an extra large REI with a rock wall, but eye-watering prices.
Best fishing goods within an hour of North Pittsburgh. Very good selection of camping equipment, outdoor clothing, and sport specific accessories. They also carry a few bike brands. They offer higher quality, long lasting goods, so prices are higher. If you like the lower quality products from Walmart or Dunhams then you shouldnt go here. Very good staff, and the concept of helping the environment through sales and partnership with suppliers is awesome.
I really dont want to give it a bad review. Because theyre not quite all the way set up yet. But from what I see all the employees are still busy getting things together. Its kind of hectic for the employees. But as far as price on the clothing play some was very awesome. But somewhere just completely outrageous. But then that could be just a point of view thing. All together though nice place.
The same as others have said. You would think a store named Public Lands would have some form of hunting section... and at least a better fishing section... absolutely nothing. Also EVERYTHING is ridiculously priced. No thank you. Ill take the 40 min drive to Sportsmans Wharehouse in Washington.
I walked in and was immediately greeted which I do not mind. Upon asking to be directed to the hunting supplies I was disappointed to learn there is no such department. I consider it extremely misleading for a store with this name that is in the old Field and Stream location to have zero hunting equipment. They may be a good company unbeknownst to me but did not serve my needs.
The store has all kinds of equipment to choose from no matter the activity. it even has a rock climbing wall. it also has some of the best clothing lines. most of the brands they sell are very sustainable and often recycledthe sales team is excellent and very crunchy. they were very knowledgeable in their respective fields and were even able to help plan trips
This place is an absolute disgrace to the outdoor community. First of all they do not allow pets in their store. They do not carry any proper equipment, rather a bunch of clothes so all the wannabes can walk around with their finest patagonia apparel so they can look like an outdoors person. Better for you to go support a small locally owned place rather than a greedy corporation like the one that runs this place.
It is absolutely mind boggling that they advertise this store as an outdoor activity retail store and have no hunting gear. I’m not just talking about guns and ammo, which they should have, but I couldn’t even find a single item that’s camouflage. No targets, nothing. It’s absurd. I could probably live with the no guns, but not having ANY hunting gear?? I don’t expect this place to stay open for that long. It’s a glorified Field and Stream 2.0. Very disappointed. Not a good idea to not have hunting gear while being surrounded by Butler, Washington, Beaver Counties. Sales people were very friendly, but having no gear for hunting while preaching to “celebrate our public lands” is comical.
Overpriced on most goods decent fishing and fly fishing section despite the higher prices. The rest of the store is about as useless as Braille on a drive up ATM for the average sportsman in western Pennsylvania some bicycles upwards of $6000.00 etc for an example this is ridiculous. For all the people saying the outdoorsman community is whining enjoy your high end overpriced China Or packi made gear :) will not return. Pointless store
Selection is higher end, so prices are higher end too. I have 3 very large issues with this store.1.) They have gear for nearly everything except hunting. They have zero firearms, camouflage, ammunition, optics, or anything related whatsoever which is ridiculous for an outdoor activity supply store.2.) They have a single brand of bicycle and nothing else.3.) The salespeople will harass you in every single department. You can not enter this store without at least 4 salespeople getting up in your business about every product that crosses your sight. Its ridiculous and shouldnt exist anymore. We dont live in the 1950s and need a human being to tell you what a Google search can.
One of the first results when I search for Hunting gear near me and hunting store near me, however they dont have hunting gear. No, its not Googles fault, they optimize their SEO to show up at the top of search results even though they dont have what youre looking for. Its sleezy tactics to get you into the store hoping youll just buy something because youre already there. Dont waste your time supporting Public Lands.
Recently visited this store, and was blown away by how beautiful and immense it is. The customer service was above and beyond. It felt like I was greeting friends and not sales assistants. You can find absolutely almost anything outdoor activity related with diverse options of brands and pricing. Definitely will be back!
Excited to see the store this weekend for their grand opening celebration!!! I love REI, so it seems to be more along the lines of the products I would find there. Im trying not to laugh at all the reviews that are upset that the store doesnt have certain outdoor supplies... (hunting). If anyone would have actually looked on their website prior to actually going to the store, it seems kinda obvious that they dont sell those supplies. Like I mentioned, its more geared to outdoor activities like an REI store, (cycling, camping, hiking, fishing, running, etc). Very interested in seeing that climbing wall in person!!!
They have a great selection of outdoors gear. I spent time in the camping and hiking areas noting the inclusion of Big Agnes, Nemo, Yeti, Eno, Rumpl, Hyperlite Mountain, and even ZPacks. Of course these are more expensive than what you might find at other stores. This store is a rare opportunity to do hands on comparisons of high quality gear.
I dont see this place lasting that long, the prices are absurd. When you walk into the building its nice but once you start to actually shop the price tags are out of this world, most likely everyone that walks in has a phone they can look up the prices of the same exactly item and find elsewhere cheaper. This isnt like your traditional buy the full retail price to help out a mom and pop store. Literally everything is priced the highest it could be.
I loved Field and Stream and spent thousands of dollars there since it opened and when I saw that it was replaced with Public Lands we went in to check it out.. Nothing against this store but literally everything I would get at F&S is gone.. This place is fine and all, but its an REI clone without the charm or member benefits of REI. Why did you get rid of our Field and Stream?! Dissapointed customer.
We walked around for twenty minutes trying to find a way into the gated area in front of the store for the grand opening. Finally found an open gate just to be told we werent allowed to enter and had to walk about 1/4 mile across parking lots to a different gate. Multiple groups were turned away at the same time and we all got into our cars and left. Never even entered the store because the event outside was so stupid.
An outdoor store with a slight identity crisis. The store feels much more prioritized on the fashion of outdoor living, versus truly supporting outdoor recreation. Very little merch to support runners, which surprised me. Little to no merch for yogis either. The store is impressive, yes, but may skew more to a “boutique” outdoor lifestyle versus, say, REI.
Walked in looking for a tree stand and camo. Was taken back when there was no hunting selection. I drove from Meadville to check this store out and was very disappointed. An outdoor retail store with no hunting apparel or gear? Very very strange. Don’t understand how this is any different from field and stream. Yawn.
Just a corporate greedy place about a profit, say they are pro science but don’t understand the carrying capacity of land and say your bad if you hunt. Sustainable meat butchered by yourself is not politically correct. If you care about wildlife and pay a license fee that supports over 2 million acres of state game lands “public lands” that’s bad guns involved. No natural predators to deer left wolves and mountain lions in PA so our hunting sustains populations of deer and provides revenue for the game pa game commission who dose not get funding from the general fund. Just a yuppie place for brand name merchandise.
I went to mobile checkout to purchase some fishing supplies, at checkout found out my rewards weren’t working. So I called Public Lands in Cranberry and found out that my Dick’s Sporting Goods/Field and Stream credit card rewards are not useable at Public Lands. Very interesting Since they’re all the same company. Exceptionally disappointed with not being able to do so……………

2022-03-19First time at this store, saw a pair of North face shoes I absolutely had to have, but only in a specific color. I can honestly say I’ve never experienced the high level of customer service before, as what I received from Hayley, Robin, and Robert. They searched all of their store options, checked the sizes on the mannequins, and then double checked some other outside stock area, and finally found my shoe. What amazing teamwork. The funny thing is, none of them seemed annoyed, and were super excited for me when they found it! What an excellent shopping experience!

2022-03-31Theres something for everyone at Public Lands. Just visited yesterday during a womens open house event.. it was great. And the staff in each dept is so knowledgeable. Awesome selection of sporty clothes, fishing gear, outdoor equipment, and an awesome section in back with local brands of snacks, muffin mixes, kombucha, tea, coffee, pottery, etc. Try the climbing wall!

2022-04-12I really like this store. They offer so many brands that are not only high quality, versatile, and durable for active/outdoorsy people such as myself, but companies that are making a positive impact on the world by decreasing their carbon foot print, planting trees, using sustainable materials and so much more. The staff are all friendly, helpful and always available and asking if you need help with anything. I never have to wait in long lines to check out and they use paper bags instead of plastic for your purchase. If I had anything constructive to say it would be that sometimes staff can be a little overwhelming because someone is constantly asking if you need help with anything. Other than that, this place usually always has what youre looking for and their prices are pretty competitive in comparison to most other places where you can purchase the same things. They carry everything from clothing, gear for camping, fishing, cycling, skiing, exercise and so much more. If you become a member you can earn rewards for all your purchases but you also get information about all the classes and activities the store has to offer as well which is pretty cool too. Right now they are havimg bike rides every Wednesday and their website offers so much information on a plethora of different topics. Definitely a cool place to go if you are an active person or love the outdoors and you wont be disappointed!!

2022-08-09I received amazing help finding everything I needed here. Huge thank you to Amber, who spent over an hour helping me find hiking boots that fit perfectly and saved my feet! Also in response to some of the other reviews, I think its great that this store does not sell guns. How nice it is to have an outdoors store that focuses on appreciating nature and not killing it.

2022-05-09Very nice place. I would suggest it over rei. They have good staff that helped us out choosing an appropriate backpack for our trip as well as options to try things out on the spot. You can literally lay on pads, setup tents in store. Great experience overall!
