Was in town for a couple days, looked up brewery on Google and found this place. Nice guys, good beer, only licensing prevented us from a couple pints. Lucky for me, I roll with an empty growler and had it filled with a delicious Porter after sampling all their wares. Beir is gut!
Nice startup. Great atmosphere and decor. Good beers. Tried the Witbier, porter, blueberry, vanilla, farmhouse. Witbier was real good and true. My wife really liked the blueberry, said it was better than DuClaw. Didnt care for the farmhouse, but I usually dont. It was true to a farmhouse ale. Vanilla was ok, just not me. The Porter was good. Its unique. They really should bill it as a brown porter. Its nit brown to mahogany in color. Light mouthfeel with hints of chocolate malts. This is more a traditional 1700s porter before malt roasters were used. Will be back.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up if you didnt already know - Railroad City Brewing has a great little party room you can rent for your party and celebration needs. Cant beat the beer and the quaint venue in the up and coming, revitalized, downtown Altoona.Check it out!!

2022-06-17Cool spot downtown Altoona with great beers.Grapefruit hazy IPA has lots of grapefruit flavor, the pink lemonade summer shandy is so refreshing and crushable, and the hazy IPAs remind me of home (WA)! Weβd come back here for sure.

2019-11-09Solid beers here. Good malt base and really smooth. IPAs arent overly hoppy. Really bare bones setup in the best way possible.

2016-09-29Great environment to grab a well-crafted beer. Ive been able to try five of their beers, including two or three small-batch brews. All were great! I would love to see more beers on tap, though. Last I was in, there were only three or four beers available instead of filling up all of the tap lines. I havent had much food there, but the beer cheese that comes with the pretzels is pretty amazing. Great job, guys!

2017-08-30I dont think Ive had a bad beer ever here. Their shandy this summer was awesome! The atmosphere is really nice, too. I just wish the growler pours would come back and there were more food options.

2018-11-15If I could rate this abysmal pit a 0 I would. My wife and I have been to over 60 microbreweries in 8 states. So we have a very good idea of what to expect in a microbrewery. This was a horrible waste of time. The employee was completely annoyed by having 2 customers come in interrupting her day. The beer ranged from below average at best to downright awful at worst. We had flights so unfortunately we made the mistake of sampling most of what they had.I have never written such a negative review but this hole truly deserves every bad word I can muster. The logo and railroad decor were nice. It is a shame that everything else made for a miserable experience.

2018-05-24Very impressed. Im aa Hollidaysburg native that has lived in Philadelphia for the past 7 years. For me the bar had been set by beers brewed by Yards, Philadelphia Brewing, Tired Hands, etc. The beers that I sampled at Railroad City are of the same caliber as these highly regarded establishments. Looking forward to my next visit.
