Good selection, mostly new stock, but decent prices at that. was happy to get head hunters from here, ive been searching for that one for a while. the staff are very friendly and helpful, if you need any help finding a record please dont hesitate to ask them. i enjoyed perusing the bargain bins which had some pretty decent stuff
Old school record shop with the best taste and variety of music. Just walking in takes me back to the days of cool local and independent record shops and spending hours combing through bins. Not many of these gems left. I hope they survive and never leave South Street. If all you know is Britney and Beyonce, go to Repo and learn something.
Cool little record shop on South Street. Good place for new and used Alternative and Rock albums. I always make this a shop when I am in Philly. Good prices and great customer service. I look forward to returning soon! Walk in with a full wallet, and out with it empty! Come prepared to dig!
Wait ... someone said there was a basement? Did I miss that? This store was well organized everyone was very helpful and friendly. I didn’t want to leave. I found some amazing new and used cds here. I’m going to tell my relatives I’m coming back to visit them but I’ll really be coming back here to shop again. Cause in the words of Prince💜 “Albums still matter. Like books and black lives. Albums still matter!”
When visiting Philly Ive been to Repo several times over the past 7-10 years. This is my first review though. Although it may not be the best record shop Philly has to offer, there could some gems to be found if you spend a little time here. The first thing I want to say though is on my most recent visit (5/22/21) Repo had the door open and no AC on. The temperature outside was in the upper 80s/low 90s. It was very hot inside and no fans. It was just a bit uncomfortable, especially after walking around outside to get there. There is also a maximum of how many people can be in the shop at one time. Nothing other shops arent also doing so just be prepared to wait outside in a line if its a little busier.... oh and bring your mask.I always check the new arrivals first. I found one Ive had on my wantlist for a bit. The record was very dusty though and will require a deep cleaning. It was otherwise clean and priced fairly. I then proceeded to pick through the hip hop, alternative rock, classic rock and jazz sections. I already knew this from prior visits, but it is still somewhat of a pet peeve of mine that new vinyl and pre-owned are mixed together. There was some decent used stuff, but the prices on some of it was more than Id want to spend. The new/reissue selection seemed pretty well stocked with some good titles. Although there is a market for it, Repo also carries counterfeit European imported records. I will say that sometimes these can sound just as good if not better than an official release. But also in some cases they can be a total waste of money due to warps and surface noise. Just be mindful if you see that Alice In Chains 3-legged dog LP it has never been officially reissued. The young lady at the register was welcoming, and polite. Ill always return to see what they got, just maybe in the fall or winter when its not as sweltering hot and the AC is off.
Love Repo Records! The atmosphere is just literally amazing and they have a great variety of vinyls always up-to-date with the latest music, Best prices around from my experience and the staff is always pleasant an I always enjoy shopping here and supporting this local business.
A nice little record store in a great location. The have a great selection of records as well as shirts and other music related things. There are a lot of old posters on the wall that looked like they were not for sale but definitely brought b]me back in time. The owner was very nice and gave us some recommendations for things to see while in the area.
Really loved this place. Great selection of records and good prices. I went with my kids and they didnt even look weird or make any comments when I walked in. I should say my kids also know how to act in a record store. But anyway walked out with 3 records and will be back next time Im in Philly
I sold my old record collection. The two women were very impressive in how quickly they were able to go through the 125 records or so that I brought there. They sorted them into 3 piles and though many had no value (old 60s and early 70s rock mixed in with lesser known jazz and some classical) they took them all which I appreciated. By the way, the store is large and the selection good.
The real deal. Might have the best hip hop selection in Philly. Amazing selection. Also, staff has always had great recommendations when I need one. I have found some great new music just by striking up a conversation with one of the employees and letting them know what music Ive been listening to lately.
The selection is pretty small and the staff were...well not trying to sell me albums apparently. I bought a few records and the person working the register spent five minutes telling me why he doesnt see the need to by albums really anymore that he never buys all the albums from any artist but only the very best ones and how streaming makes buying albums obsolete. He also had zero knowledge of any of the music I was looking for and I ended up finding it on my own.
Smaller sized record store on South Street, but with lots of punk stuff to choose from, on vinyl and CD. Most of the CD selection was used, and cheap, and I picked up 3 CDs for like $8. I also scored a funny Descendants coffee mug, which was not used, and not so cheap. $14 for a ceramic mug? Whatever, Im getting it. Its an investment in the comfort and enjoyment of my home, I tell myself. Im glad that I wandered past this place.
Kind of the standard when it comes to Philly record stores. They know how to stay stocked with reissues, different variants, and the standard new stuff. They have a lot of rare stuff also. Granted the shop is on South Street, ugh, and the staff can be a little uninterested and aesthetically intimidating, but they are always pretty cool if you need something. They reserved a few records for me once and they also hold pretty amazing in-store performances and a great RSD. Highly recommended.
Cool place, but the pricing 125% market value. It’s my own fault not taking a better look at versions. I scanned mine vinyl in on discogs to see the cheapest versions out priced at the mean for earlier or better pressings... in my head it’s like picking up a back2black pressing at Walmart and charging going amount for a newly released limited edition. In short, Decent selection but for the vinyl I picked up I’d been better off buying FLAC on bandcamp
Sold me two counterfeit records as Rare European press when I first started collecting and didnt know any better. Store clerk clearly knew what they were but chose to deceive me (these records both have well known and identifiable counterfeits that anyone thats been collecting will know as soon as they see them). I asked if it was a legitimate press of the album and was told it was only was pressed in Europe and they go quickly. Terribly misleading. I did pick up a fairly rare legitimate record for a decent price but would still not recommend wasting money here as he was not at all truthful about the other records he sold me.
This used to be the #1 spot to find great music in the city. The staff used to be knowledgable on so many new and local artists and have a huge selection of hard to find and not too overpriced CDs and vinyl. This last trip was disappointing as no one knew the bands or records I was looking for and most of the used CDs were all the 90s-2000s pop and metal that I keep seeing in the thrift shops. I assume with so many folks leaving disk media to go for downloads that the past few years have been lean, so its hard to see this giant fall from such great heights.
I have been coming to Repo Records for about 15 years now. Great prices on hard to find imported and new release vinyl. Used vinyl is priced fair and often I find rare collectible titles at prices that rival online 2nd hand sellers! With AKA now gone and Noise Pollution severely lacking in selection, Repo is my go to shop on South St. and will be as long as its open.
I always enjoy going into a new record store. This time, not so much. The staff was very short and rude when asked questions. I purchased a few CDs and when I was coming back home (I live out of state), I put in one of the CDs. It was a burned CD and fake packaging. So I moved onto the next one, same issue. All the albums songs were compacted into one song and two on the other album. Not only is this unethical, it is illegal. I will never shop at this place again nor would I ever recommend anyone that likes getting their moneys worth in merchandise. This place is awful and a ripoff.
I do a lot of traveling across the country and when Im in Philly I never miss a chance to visit one of my all time favorite record stores . With their large selection of new and used vinyl I never walk away disappointed! I usually dont purchase a lot of used CDs - but their prices are cheaper than any other stores Ive been in and I always find something at Repo! I was fortunate enough to be in Philly for RSD this year and hoping to be in Philly again next year for RSD
Awesome store for records the dollar records are great I love flipping through all of the different albums they had I was able to get about 40 to 50 albums at a cheap price and the customer service was awesome the young lady there help me with Packaging all of the albums that I purchased into a box for easy carrying
Record I purchased was scratched and poorly pressed. This isnt repos fault though, its the marketing and sales of the records that are to blame. It seems like the new age of vinyl hipsters has created a big demand for cheap vinyls and we cant do anything but go with the supply that we are given. Dont shoot the salesman, shoot the supplier.
You mean Rip-Off Records? Yes, Ive been there. Real nice guy on the phone~ Cool as can be ~would love to have you come in with your 100s of records so he can rifle through your pile and cherry pick the best you have. He got a pile of like a dozen records and as im helping him from my vehicle, he runs back in the store with my records~ Im like hey: where you going with my records? he got super belligerent and said: what, Im not holding your hand out here buddy, i got a store to run! ~ What? You want me to hold your hand out here while you go through every record? ~ He got super nasty in like 1 minute flat (I guess the girl who was working there must be incompetent or a thief and cant be left alone for 1 minute) ~He runs into his store with my records ~ i didnt even have time to get out of the vehicle~ He just literally ran away with my records~ Runs into his store and I can see him take a record from the pile he just ran away with and put one into a rack in front of his cash register. I saw this from the back of my truck as i was parked directly in front of his store. Im positive he stole at least 1 record from me ~ Didnt even bother looking at the rest of the records in the truck~he left me hanging out in my truck~ whatever he found was good enough for him to just stop in the middle of rifling and run away into his store with my records. At this point I realized my mistake of not knowing exactly what i had and this guys shady style of record procurement really started to feel that this guy was going to rape me out of my records~And he did ~I found the 2 original beatles records alone were worth more than $100! ~Bottom line: If you go in there to sell your records, RESEARCH YOUR RECORDS! THIS GUY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT AND RIP YOU OFF HARD and he wont be very nice about it. Thank god i didnt bring the mother load! ~ Thanks for the lesson! ~
I’ve never visited your store, but that’s not a problem for Google Maps Reviews because Google allows anyone, even if they’re not a “customer” to write a bogus ‘review’ of your business…even if it is just uniformed abuse.I’m sorry that you too have been victim of the “wrath” of Jonathan Downie. He likes to walk into small independent stores and if he’s not given undivided attention he gets mad, really mad. No hope of serving a genuine customer when Downie is in town. The problem is that Downie is a vindictive entitled abuser. If you respond to what he has written, he’ll telephone (internationally) and call you “a f****** a**hole” , he’ll also follow up with threatening emails containing similar language and declaring he’ll “ruin your business”. Let face it he’s the problem. And so is Google Reviews. They endorse him and reward him with points and feedback.which is especially offensive to me.
I recently came to town for an FKA twigs concert and stopped at Repo on the way back. While browsing, a shoegaze song by Nothing, a local Philly band, played over the stereo and I struck up a conversation with the clerk about it, and somehow over it we went from shoegaze to talking about the recent Jhene Aiko album. They had some real gems in stock but they also had something I rarely found among record stores at home in Pittsburgh: people who were actively involved in the local music scene and kept up with the times, not the owners quiet, rock-chauvinist buddy from college who has no idea who J Dilla was and why his records are kept stocked at all times. The people who work at Repo are irreplaceable because they bring the element of community into whats usually a really cold and uninviting experience these days. Even if they had a basic urban outfitters-style stock, Id still go just to get a dose of good old humanity.
Just sold over 1000 records to repo (after having spent the last 6 months trying to sell on ebay, WHAT A NIGHTMARE) I know what they sell for and they were more than fair with what they paid me for the entire lot. I dont want to sell the rest of my records but if I do I know where to go

2022-04-11A well organized music store with a lot of records in various formats, a sizeable t shirt collection, and any other music fan knickknacks you could think of. My favorite part was their cassette tape selection. I found a Duster tape and some cool local tapes there as well. Worth checking out if you are in the area!

2020-08-13Great place to spend some time and look around. My family just loved it! Had a great collection of CDs (we bought a few for a couple of dollars!). Also got a cool Fresh-Prince T-Shirt. They have some fantastic stuff. Check it out if you are in the area!

2022-02-17Came here on a mission to find a Tina Turner Record and I did in-fact find one. I had previously been to Philadelphia Record Exchange and that store is overwhelming, but Repo Records was very nicely organized and full of awesome stuff, other than music. They have a whole selection of T shirts, and buttons and stickers. Really hip stuff.

2022-03-07After purchasing vinyl from here, it kept skipping. I thought it might be a bad press so I reached out to the store & they mentioned a trick to get the needle on my record to stay steady. It was magic & worked like a gem! Very grateful for their quick response and help.Aside from that, the store itself is fantastic. A large selection of records, CDs, posters, and t-shirts. Very glad we checked it out!

2019-07-11Nice store with new and used vinyl. The staff was curteous and helpful. The prices on most of the vinyl were a little high. I did find In Rock We Trust by Y&T in good condition for a good price.

2021-10-14What a selection! This shop has so much to offer: all types of music media, clothes, pins/buttons, posters, etc. The staff here were cool and helpful, and they chose some BOPS to play over the speakers. There are items here for every price point, too. My partner and I chose a random used vinyl for $1.99 (Walk Under Ladders by Joan Armatrading). It was in great condition, and now we’re fans of her music for life!If you come to Repo Records, you’re guaranteed to make a great find.

2021-10-10I found nostalgia ultra by Frank here. Enough said, this shop has it all. From local to classic and all the new indie stuff in-between. Repo has you covered!

2021-01-08Great selection of vinyl. As someone very into 90s music (NIN, Manson, Tool, Ministry, etc) I never leave repo empty handed.
