This place is the measuring stick for halal cheese steak sandwiches. The cheese steak was as usual amazing. Very generous portions of meat. Fresh bread. With whatever mix of sauce that they put on it. Do wish they did put a little bit more cheese though. The chicken Marrakesh sandwich was a little bit of a disappointment though. The sauce was extremely watery. I just remember it being a lot better when I went previously. Thats the only reason I gave them four stars instead of five. Otherwise they are usually a solid option.Warning... Cash only
One of the best cheesesteaks in Philadelphia; my sandwich had so much steak in it, that I couldnt fold the sandwich. First, I had to use a fork to eat the pile of flavorful steak, then I was able to fold the bread. What makes this place a plus, is that it is certified halal.
DELICIOUS!!! traveled to Philly and the wait time was 45mins after we sat to get your food. I informed the gentleman at the counter I was a traveler and he hooked me up for my food in like 10 mins. The wings were not very nice looking BUT wonderfully tasty I wish I would’ve ordered more!! The Philly cheesesteak is worth traveling to Philadelphia for that’s how good it was. I wish I would’ve ordered another one as well! Definitely go check out Saad’s.
My mom and sister visited in 2019. They couldn’t stop raving about how amazing the Philly cheesesteaks were. Fast forward to 2021, we visited with my family on a Sunday and came to find out they were closed. No problem!! We decided we’d come back another time. Fast forward to 2022, my husband and I decided to make a day trip out to Philly from D.C (specifically for Saad’s) and ofc city walking. We walked into Saad’s, and the first thing the employee at the front desk said was “we have everything except cheesesteaks.” Imagine the disappointment we felt. When asked “why” employee stated again “we don’t have it.” Very disappointed and we will not be coming back.
Food was pretty good. Specially the lamb over rice was great with a little bit of hot sauce. The burger was kinda disappointing though; patty was saying by design. Philly cheesesteak was amazing, stop was the falafel. The chocolate baklava was amazing.Food burgers I would go to manakeesh next door.
Saad’s been in West Philadelphia for over 25 years! I can proudly say I remember being one of the very first customers at the establishment back then. The food was fresh and delicious then—halal—and the food is still amazingly delightful now! I believe part of their presentation for success is that Saad is always there greeting each and everyone of his customers with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. Saad is one of Philadelphia’s best kept treasures.
The taste of Shawarma is not the best I have had even some of the halal carts I have eaten in NYC tastes better than this. The thing is meat is tender but spices are very superficial, I dont know if they marinate meat together with spices. Their potion is big for Shawarma platter which I paid 23 Dollars. Their wings are good. I dont know about other dishes. I dont understand why they give Siracha hot sauce and Mexican hot sauce at the middle eastern fastfood restaurant. This is odd for me. Everyone needs to wear mask strictly and only allowed to take off when the food is in front of you and owner (I think) and the waitresses are very serious about that which I think is funny. Overall 3 stars just for the wings.
Wonderful food. We found Saads while visiting the area and what a great place to eat. They are practicing safe guidance, so we placed our order via phone and walked around until it was ready. I had the VEGGIE COMBO PLATTER and this is outstanding, so much food with this dish. I would eat here again the next time we visit Philly.
Their service is exceptional. Their food is cooked to perfection and has the authentic flavors and way of cooking that reminds me of home. The food is so fresh and their customer service is exceptional. I made a large order and it was done in 20 mins during their busiest time too during lunch hour! Their facility is clean, organized, and they follow strict hygiene standards. I highly recommend!
The owner is usually stressed a bit because of how busy it is but he is a very nice when he gets a minute to breathe. His cooks also deserve praise because in the 12 years I have been coming here, the taste of his best dish - chicken maroush - hasnt changed at all. Consistency is amazing.Lastly, his workers which walk the floor helping customers are also amazing. They are very helpful and always looking to tables to see if anyone needs anything.Excellent establishment and I hope to continue visiting for years to come. Thank you
To me, Saads is a fixture of the West Philadelphia neighborhood west of Penn and in the heart of a very diverse international neighborhood. Great shwarma and all their middle eastern offerings are excellent: hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, etc.. You wont be disappointed.
A West Philly legend offering exceptionally prepared traditional halal dishes. Shawarma to falafel and everything in between are made to order from fresh ingredients ensuring each bite is a treat. Sizeable portions at reasonable prices. Also one of the best cheesesteaks in philly!
This place was incredibly amazing. Coming from Toronto, we visited Philadelphia for the first time and this place was the best place to introduce us to authentic Philly steak sandwiches. The sandwiches were enormous, juicy, spicy, and had the perfect ratio of meat, caramelized onions and cheese! And their cheese fries were too good! Would love to go there again.
Had heard a lot of hype about this place from family and friends and everyone recommended going here so we came all the way from New Jersey but got disappointed with food as nothing extraordinary just same old Philly cheesesteaks that you would get anywhere else in other halal restaurants in NY or NJ that we have tried before. So I guess this place is overrated by foodies because my taste buds didn’t feel anything special. Don’t take me wrong the food was not bad just ok for a one time visit not something that would make you come back again from 100 miles away!I am giving 3 stars due to portion size is really big and enough for two people in one portion and the restaurant is neat and clean too! As for service I had heard rude behavior from previous customers but got surprised otherwise with excellent courteous service with big smiles and politeness too!Yes I would recommend you coming here if you don’t expect anything extraordinary and just regular Mediterranean food!
Very expensive for no reason, bad experience ever. Not allowed to use credit under $30 and they charge 5% if you use it.2 sandwiches for $34 fries $6.Today I went to @Alshami house in NE, very good. 2 plats more than enough for 2 people + fries + kids menu and drinks for $41.Highly recommendedI will not go again to Saad period.
I was in Philly this weekend so thought I had to try the all famous Saad’s halal. Was very disappointed from my visit and it wasn’t even all about the food. It is the poor business practices that are a turn off. This place is just hunting to take money from their customers. They charge a 15% dine in fee, with signs everywhere asking/begging for tips. With actually no “table service”. Makes no sense what we are tipping for and what they are charging a 15% fee for dining in with their already ridiculous prices. On top of this, they charge 4% if not paying cash, and the staff frowns a lot when seeing any type of card. They are just avoiding paying taxes and hurting their own community by doing this. Very shameful. Especially for a halal place. Also to be noted, their Philly cheese steaks are around $15 and do not even include any toppings! You have to pay $1 extra per vegetable topping you’d like. I was very excited to go but was disappointed based on this all.
They charged 14 dollar plus tax for one beef Maroosh sandwich. anyways I can pay that high prices but at the end we want to get what we pay for. I got thr sandwich and there were only 4 small pieces in the sandwich and when I reached within the time they asked me to come. the sandwich was cold and the bread became very hard to bite. this is very bad. they should have told me to come earlier if they can make the sandwich earlier. they asked me to come in 30 mins. but I still went there within 15 mins and the sandwich was cold to warm and the bread was hard to bite. I ate there sandwiches before like 1 year ago and tasted very good. the meat was well in there. but since gas prices increased so they thought of increasing the sandwich prices as well but they forgot to keep the same taste and quality and they instead reduced the meat and quality. please be far with customers. as you gained stars up. it will eventually fall as well. I might be one reporting this but there will be more people down the road. why I am frustrate dis because I came all th4 way from Manhattan to eat maroosh and it was much lower than what I expected since thr quality degraded very badly. And one thing dont charge so badly to the customers. I know there are some rich guys out there to buy your sandwiches and 15 dollars with tax is a lot for a sub sandwich
My cousin said she travelled all the way from Brooklyn to eat their philly cheese steak. I always thought she was crazy, but after eating here myself, I had to apologize. This was amazing. The philly cheese steak i definitely worth it ! The best part is that it is Halal som every muslim can enjoy it !!
They made a mistake on my over the phone order! when I complained about that ,Saad ,the owner was annoyed and told me this is what you ordered take it or you need to wait for another 30 mins without even being apologetic about the mistake that his staff made just because they were busy on the lunch time. The owner is also charging an extra fee for using a credit card which doesn`t seems a halal practice. Make sure to bring cash with you, plus, be aware that the restaurant smells are very strong that you will be like a walking sandwich after finishing your food. Very bad customer service!
The Philly cheese steak, with onions and mushrooms, is not to be missed! It tastes great and they give you a lot of beef.I recommend ordering in advance if youre taking it to-go because this place is busy. If youre dining in, you should be aware of a couple quirky rules: you cant take calls inside and they charge 15% extra to dine-in.The front staff needs better training: we asked if they had a high-chair and were initially told yes before another staffer told us they actually dont have one.
Absolutely loved the food here at Saads. The Philly cheese steak was off the chain! One of the best Ive ever had. We also ordered the chicken maroush which was tasty, but also a bit of a strong garlic flavor. Overall, food was delicious and I would def come here again!
The food is amazing here! The cheese steak was really good and ALL the staff are extremely warm and helpful. Give them a visit and you will not be disappointed. The famous cheese steak spots have nothing on Saads, youre not missing out on taste by coming here. Ive had Genos and Pats and I think that Saads is super satisfying without the long lines and fuss. The meat is tender and it comes with onions and mayo. Try the cheese fries with the cheese steak to get some cheese wiz action.
You should not miss their Philly Cheese Steak when in Philly - I REPEAT: YOU SHOULD NOT MISS THEIR PHILLY CHEESE STEAK WHEN IN PHILLY! I am not easily impressed with restaurants food, but this place just hit bulls eye with the quality of their meat, taste, and freshness! I REPEAT.....
Everything was delicious and fresh. I usually stray away from half rotisserie chickens because they are typically dry but this was sooo juicy and cooked to perfection. I order via UberEats and my food came quick and was hot! Also, the wings with garlic sauce is AMAZING! Will definitely be returning.
Worst restaurant ever.I went there from NYC, they kept charging stuffs and make us buy food that we didn’t need to fulfill $30 credit card payment requirement. Then there was 15% for sitting there, 4% for credit card usage fee, then tax on the whole amount again.i went to get 1 Philly, eventually came out with 2 and paid about $57Worst restaurantWorst behaviorShame on this place
Assuming all the 5* are from ‘multibillionaires’ who doesn’t mind paying 20% extra just to seat inside and eat.We went to the place and encountered very rude behave from the man and lady on the front desk. Then when we asked if we can sit and eat they said if you pay in cash 15% extra if you pay in credit 20% extra+ tip…They charged service change and almost paid $53 for one platter and a Philly.
Probably the best philly cheese steaks Ive ever had, but they have unnecessary fees. For one, they charge a 15% additional fee of the entire bill just for dinning in. And when you take your family out and spend well over 100 dollars on the food, that 15% really does some damage. And no, the tip Is not included in the fee.
We were coming to Philly and looked up where to find halal cheesesteaks and this was the top recommendation. It absolutely lived up to the hype. I had never had a Philly cheesesteak before so I was surprised to see how big it was. It was a lot of meat but tasted amazing. Our whole family all loved them and we even ordered some to go before we left. The inside of the restaurant was also very clean and there was even a staff member in the middle of the restaurant that gave us napkins and took our trays and garbage when we were done and ready to go. If I’m in Philly again, I will definitely come back to try a cheesesteak and some of the other items as well since there was a lot. There’s even a vegetarian menu.
The food was awesome they have a variety of food you can choose from & even though I ordered something small I was full. Cant wait to go back & try other foods that they have. This restaurant is very clean, everyone is polite & professional from beginning to end. Love this place.
Best halal chicken maroush sandwich! Cash only unless over $30 is kind of a nuisance as people don’t always carry cash no more in this age of digital technology. That being said I am usually around once or twice a week to come in and grab the chicken maroush because it’s just that good. Some friends in South Philly I thought were coming to see me in University City, later found out this sandwich was first. I can’t blame them, this to go sandwich photo doesn’t do it justice so I had second thoughts about posting it, will order again soon and post for ya.
One of the best quick eats in west philly.Best known for their chicken maroosh sandwich!Their French fries are consistently fresh and crispy.Chicken Maroosh - must order. The bread is toasted, the combination of the chicken, pickle and white sauce is on point.Cheesesteak - one of the best cheesesteaks in west philly. Bread is slightly toasted.
Definitely delicious, helpful and nice owners. Try philliy cheese steak. It is difficult to find a halal philly sandwich in Philadelphia but this place is the best. The only downside might be that the prices were not as reasonable as I expected. But I guess that might be normal.
This place is awesome! They give very large portions that could easily feed 2-3 people. When my family went here we got a variety of things and not one thing was bad. If you’re in the Philadelphia area and want a nice affordable restaurant then I definitely recommend coming here.
The Philly cheesesteak was a bit TOO cheesy for me but it was my first time trying this in the US and I guess it’s the standard.HUGE portion of both chips and the cheesesteak itself that left even a person such as me (with huge appetite) struggling to finish the meal.Overall a 5 star rating from me!
My go to spot when im in Philly..past 10yrs been coming here...cheese steak is good but the Meat Masoosh ( hope i spelled that right) was awesome! The white sauce was on point.. fries are always crispy n crunchy... friendly service and clean environment. Masallah!! Consistency for many years.keep up great work!
One of my favourite restaurant in philadelphia. The chicken maroush is the best chicken sandwish you will ever taste anywhere. I also recommend the wings and the cheesesteak!Huge portion with cheap price, and Saad is an honest hardworker man. Cant visit philly without passing by this place!
This place has amazing sandwiches. Saads own maroosh invention is amazing. I usually wont recommend dine-in on weekends (Sunday closed) as it gets too busy starting Friday night and the place is pretty small. In addition, if you are ordering take-out dont expect quick service. They are just too busy. Saad himself is a great guy - a liittle eccentric about rules, but I love the guy. I am sure he gets offers to expand the place somewhere else but he loves what he does and that shows in the quality. So he stays. I highly recommend this place to everybody visiting Philly. If you want a halal cheesesteak, this is your spot.
I used to love this place back in Penn Dental times circa 2013 to 2015.Its gotten more chaotic, two people cut in line in front of me today which I was in line waiting for my pickup and the owner obliged.Food quality has become slightly mundane and too heavy/oily and prices have gone up.Now that Im in the burbs, safe to say I dont miss this, place much anymore.
My husband really wanted to try their Phillysteak, came from Chicago went to NY and detoured our way 2.5 hrs in to Philly to check out this place. I had called an hr before it’s closing the lady said that I can come in 10 mins and place the order. We were 30 mins away and I called the place the order exactly at 8:30 the phone went straight to the automated msg saying they don’t take orders. We tried every way possible to reach them. My husband said let’s just go to the restaurant and explain since that lady knew we were coming. When we got their we got rejected, my kids were so hungry and we were exhausted from the driving. This was such a horrible experience. We went next door to the yamani restaurant, they were so so nice. So many Duas to the yamani restaurant owners and to the Natural Valley that’s on the corner of the street. I would heard of a restaurant that doesn’t take orders 30 mins before closing! Horrible horrible horrible people!
Yummy Cheesesteak and fries. They do not accept credit cards, and only accept debit for big orders. Make sure to bring cash if you are going to be eating alone. They charge extra for peppers and mushrooms in the Cheesesteak. They charge 15% extra if you want to dine in.
I live about two hours away from Saad’s restaurant and I usually bring the family to eat there at least three or four times a year. It is worth the 4 hour round trip. We always get the chicken, beef, lamb Marroush sandwiches with an order or burgers for the kids and some fries and onion rings. For the past 10 years, food quality and service been amazing. I hope the owner consider opening more restaurants in the surrounding area.
Saads food is so good. Many halal restaurants in philly use the same pre-frozen foods that they just whip up and serve us. So eating at different halal places I feel the food is the same or similar. Not a variety of flavour, technique or sauces. But as Saads it’s different. You can tell the recipes are unique , prices are VERY fair. A burger is $5 or $6 and it’s really good (hard to find a GOOD halal cheeseburger) chicken burger is BOMB and even their Philly cheesesteak and maroosh are well worth the $9 because they’re big . As for sides I’ve only tried their French fried and again UNIQUE, very crispy the fries have a texture to them makes them super crunchy even when we drive back home to eat at home (25-30min drive). Amazing one of my favourite halal places to eat in Philly !Heads up this is a cash only store or debit only! They use no credit cards and any transaction below $30 has to be cash. They have an atm in site .
It wasnt as good as the hype. Good service. I went their twice. The first time, I ordered a Chicken Maroush as a meal and a falafel as an appetizer. The Chicken Maroush was really delicious. However, two pisces of the falafel were not fresh and extremely cold and the rest was fresh. That wasnt a big deal for me. The second time, I tried Chicken Kabob Platter and was dried out with little flavor and there was no Middle Eastern flavor at all in this dish. In fact I could not eat the whole dish even though i was really hungry. I wouldnt order from here again!
Terrible customer service. They lie about their timings. I saw multiple families being rejected from service even though they arrived an hour before closing time. Kids and family walked away very disappointed.Only way to get service is to come and hour half before closing time or else they will probably turn you away. Don’t come just for food, only come if your in the area. They are very rude they won’t even open the door to talk to you. In half an hour span I saw multiple disappointed families being turned away, was a sad sight to see, I was about to give them my food.
Ive been coming to this restaurant for nearly 20 years. Best cheesesteak ever! They finally reopened for dine-in after after the pandemic restrictions lifted. Was disappointed to see they charge 15% gratuity for dine-in no matter how many people are in the party. Generally restaurants charge for gratuity for parties of 5-6 +. On top of this they have signs on all tables saying tips appreciated. Their servers didnt serve in the past. They just cleaned up after customers. Now theyre serving and checking in on customers...which made us give additional tip. Not a problem tipping...but I do have a problem being charged for gratuity for my small party of three and then tipping again.
I was only visiting Philadelphia for a day and when I asked my friends wheres the best place I can have a cheesesteak - they all agreed that Saads was the best place - so I came in with high expectations and I sure was not disappointed: the taste, service, portions were all 5/5. We had the cheesesteak and the chick shish tawook which were both excellent along with a side of very crispy fries.
Cheesesteak was great as usual. A large I split with my wife, and we got onion rings on the side. We ordered ahead. Despite our food waiting there for some time, it was still warm when we ate. I took a star off only because the bun was soaking wet with moisture from the meat and or the heat of the packaging. They must have made our food very early on and just left it there until we came (they told us 45 minutes, we got there in an hour, and I dont think 15 minutes would make that big a difference, but that hoagie roll was SOAKED). Still tasted great! Still going to go back! Maybe next time I will come a little earlier to pick up though!
The service was both kind and professional and the atmosphere was very family friendly. I ordered the lamb Shawarma platter with Greek salad and tabouli salad since it comes with 2 sides. The vegetables taste freshly home grown, the lamb rice and sauces all cooked and prepared with perfect texture and taste. I will be back!

2022-07-09Sad they didnt have their Philly Cheesesteak when we visited May 2022, but we were still very happy with what we got. Chicken Swish Tawook (pic) was delicious. Ask for extra dipping sauce.Fries were also perfect.

2022-03-31They have amazing beef cheese steak! I travel from DC a few times a year to get some. The addition of ketchup on the sandwich takes it up a different notch. I tried with and without ketchup beef cheese steak sandwich and ketchup is the way to go for this place. I highly recommend as one of the places to stop and eat if youre looking for halal cuisine. What I did not like in this restaurant is the wait time. There was definitely a lot of discrepancy on who gets their food first. I understand a popular restaurant will have wait time, however it should not be 2 hours to get a sandwich. Few of my friends ordered only one sandwich and they had to wait two and a half hours just to get theirs. There were other people that came in and ordered after us and received their sandwich with 45 minutes or less.So I dont agree with their mandatory 15% service fee if youre eating in the restaurant. I understand you have to pass your cost on to the consumers but to force it is questionable.

2022-06-23This is a Philly must stop spot, but when we went this time it wasnt that at all. I wanted a Philly cheese steak but they said bc of the rising prices of steak and lamb, they took them off the menu. That was the whole reason I went there. They recommended a chicken sandwich, which was alright, but not so delicious that it will go back just for another sandwich. We also ordered chicken wings which were good. I dont know what the secret is to getting them so crispy, but it worked. We did take out and they forgot to give us hot sauce so the chicken was crispy, but plain. Like no seasoning, not one speck of seasoning, plain plain. We also got the sweet potato pie, but I think it was a bean pie mislabeled bc there was no sweet to that pie. To sum it up, will I go back, no, not till the get steak back on the menu.

2022-06-12Food was good. All food is Halal. Quantity was too much. Taste may depends on different people. We were 5 person. 3 liked the taste and 2 didn’t. To be honest, I didn’t like it that much.

2021-12-16Didn’t expect to eat one of the best cheesesteaks in Philly from this place but we did. Their fries are so good too. Mediterranean style plates were huge.

2022-03-20All the food is hot and tasty and value for money. Best of all, halal. We ordered the philly cheese steak and chicken maroosh way. Its a very cozy place and so popular - all kinds of customers are found here.

2022-06-07We traveled over 100 miles to try there chicken cheese steak only to find out they dont have a cook. We called this time before going there and again we got the same answer they have no cook to prepare chicken cheese steak. Curious because they have other sandwiches ready but not the chicken cheese steak. Can some clarify why this is.Food is great, however not sure why the plenty of other staff, or the owner himself, cant make their signature sandwich.
