This property is clearly old. They do their best to keep it clean but bathroom tile that looks like it is 25+ years old can only be cleaned so much. All aspects of the room looked dated and well used. The staff was nice and helpful. We ended up leaving after one night to get to a more updated property with better amenities.
The hotel is well-cleaned and the staff is great, especially Mrs Drew and the cleaning person for 1120. The sheets take getting used to since they are not fitted, but the bed and pillows are comfortable. Food is always great here. You might as well park in the attached garage. It is a waste of parking money to go somewhere else if you only have a one night stay. We will use this hotel again.
Great location for the hospitals, UPenn and Drexel. Rooms are very dated, some with undesirable odors. Very nice and responsive staff and restaurant adjacent to lobby very good. Parking restrictions: additional charges if you want to use your vehicle after 6PM on Fridays.
Positive: The room was large and the bathroom was super modern, large and lots of storage. Loved the FREE water bottles to make coffee!! Beds were large and very comfortable with lovely bedding. Room did have fridge, but the microwave was in the hallway. Negative: The microwave was in the hallway near ice/vending machines. A little odd. Parking fee was very high but they did allow you to go in and out for the one fee. Never paid such a high fee to park my car after paying for the room.
We chose the hotel Because of its close proximity to chop. The hotel was very clean and convenient to the hospital. Rooms were clean and the entire hotel was very well-maintained. The lobby smelled great as soon as you entered. The attached parking garage was also a huge plus. Would definitely stay at the Sheraton again.
The staff was really nice. But, the pool was closed. No one told me before booking, after booking or during check in. We decided to stay at this hotel seeing as it is one of the few hotels that offer a pool. When we called down to the front desk to ask where the pool was they laughed and said it was closed. I was infuriated. The hotel wasnt clean. The bed skirt on our bed was DIRTY!! The room was not clean (stained floors and walls, small and weird bathroom, dust on all of the wood). The refrigerator barely opened and had to scrape the floor to even get it open. The elevators were TERRIFYING. I had a panic attack in the elevator going to the parking garage because it sounded as if it was going to snap every time we got in. I wouldnt recommend staying here to anyone! Do not waste your money. What an awful experience.
Hospitality from the Hotel staff is awesome! They are very attentive and helpful. Hotel rooms are a little dated. An update will bring up the ratings. The banquet hall is pretty and the chairs have little shelves underneath for a woman to have a place to keep her pocketbook off of the table.
Hotel was easy to locate, garage had generous spacing to others I’ve experienced. Hotel is old, in poor repair. Front desk usually unattended, no running water for 4 hours in the morning hours due to a leak. Beds/bathroom seemed clean, housekeeping was quiet which I appreciated. No breakfast at the hotel and the bagel place across the street had no power. Overall 5/10 experience.
This was a perfect place to stay during college tours. The receptionist was extremely helpful when we arrived late at night. The room was clean, WiFi great and the fitness center was in great shape. The beds were also very comfortable. Thanks for the complimentary water in the room!
Pros: Great location for visiting Penn and downtown. Terrific Asian restaurant in the hotel. Comfy beds. On site parking and great staff. Cons:…the pool was being renovated which was terribly disappointing as it was a late June heatwave on the east coast and was part of the reason we booked our stay there. This was not mentioned online. The rooms need an upgrade. No bedside chargers and stained and worn carpet. Toilet flusher was iffy.
Parking convenient in the city. Restaurant in the hotel has great food and great service. Hotel staff was great. However, the toliet didnt work consistently even after we asked for service and our TV was not working when we arrived. They replaced it but it seems as if some of these issues should have been noticed long before our arrival with other guests.
A recent two night stay was almost unbearable due to the overpowering perfume in the lobby area. The chemical scent was so pervasive that I could taste it for 30 minutes after leaving the lobby. For that reason alone I cannot recommend anyone stay there. The staff were very nice and the hotel was clean. Parking was convenient if expensive. The HVAC system is antiquated and needs replacement. The bed was comfortable. Street noise was an issue, particularly with a window that would not latch shut.
The staff at the Sheraton were extremely helpful and kind. My dad needed a wheelchair and they asked and got the larger one since he’s a tall guy. Everything was very clean, the hotel was quiet. They were the easiest to book over the phone because the phone rep did not keep asking me about hotel membership or giving me sales pitches like others did. We got the room due to a family member surgery at the hospital, and Sheraton made everything easier. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the hospital, there’s a Wawa across the street and lots of restaurants nearby.
I prefer the Sheraton, they have great beds, and bedding. The staff at this particular Sheraton were exceptional!!! They were warm & kind.... they couldn’t do enough for you! This is what I consider the most important asset for any hotel. They really make you feel welcome! I would stay again. Thank you! I was there bc my husband had surgery at Penn. I just wish there was a shuttle service to & from the hotel & hospital. I know it can’t be done now due to covid, but this would be a great feature. Thanks to the staff... your kindness was greatly appreciated! My husband is doing great!!!
The best area is the lobby area. They have a nice section where you can work downstairs. The hotel is older and the rooms are clean it’s just old. My room had marks on the wall but other than that it was clean. My bed was very comfortable. Really nice front lobby staff they were amazing!
I did not stay at the hotel. It appeared to be nice, but the parking was a nightmare. You literally have to change your direction or shimmy into one of the narrow spots if another car comes along because there is not room for two (barely for 1). I had to have my mom get out and help me navigate my SUV around one of the million narrow posts I got trapped behind. Then trying to leave we went all the way to the top to be met with a dead end and the realization that yes, you do have to go out the way you came in and just hope no one wants to come in at the same time. If you look REALLY carefully on some levels you will see some faded painted arrows indicating that traffic can go both up and down, but not sure how that can actually happen.
My wife is under treatment for cancer at Penn. In instances where we had to be at the hospital early for treatment, we booked the Sheraton as it is close to the facility. The staff at the Sheraton has been excellent in providing courteous, efficient, service and a discounted hospital rate. We both appreciate the effort made to accommodate us during our visits and believe it should be recognized.
This is a nice hotel and in walking distance to the University and hospital. The lobby is very spacious with a nice restaurant attached. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. The rooms need to be updated. It’s clean and beds are comfy, but the decor is dark and outdated.
Hotel and location is good. Right by the university and close to downtown Philly. Staff was great. Parking on property was nice too. Also plenty of restaurants available for delivery for lunch or dinner.Main issues were the elevators and thermostat in our room. Elevators were extremely slow and only 2 were working (the other two were shut down for renovations) and with 20+ floors, it took a long time to get from the lobby to our floor or the parking garage (parking garage has two separate elevators (only 1 of which was working) and they require you to go down to the lobby first and then switch to another elevator to go up to your floor). And especially with Covid, this caused long wait times and crowding for the elevator during check in/check out times. Our rooms thermostat was weird too. When we got to the room I set it to 68° and after about 10 min, the room felt warmer. Eventually I set the temperature to its lowest setting (45°) and the room temperature never got below 76°. Also the heat/cool switch was reversed. Heat put out cool air and cool put out hot air. The temperature never got below 76° even after I discovered this about the heat/cool switch.
I stayed at the Sheraton U- City the weekend of my wedding. Everything was perfect and convenient! The staff was amazing and the room was beautiful. I had a suite on the 19th floor. The room was extremely spacious (like a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment) and had an amazing view. I definitely recommend!!!
Lobby is lovely; rooms are nice enough; staff is very friendly and helpful; and the parking fee is very reasonable. Breakfast is provided for an additional, but very affordable cost, at the neighboring restaurant where the food is good, and the staff is very nice. All in all, a good experience.
Ac unit is my only complaint. Ac would only go to 65 We like a cold room at night. The unit on the wall would never say 65. It was 70 or above. Which was not good when your going though menopause and it’s to hot to sleep. Weather was in the 90s should have been comfy sleeping but not for me. Told front desk maintenance came up to help set it. But it never went down past 70. It actually went up. Not happy getting little to no sleep when you have a relative in the hospital with cancer having surgery. Otherwise a wonderful stay.
We arrived and went to our meeting so we came back at night there was no hot water in the bathroom. We try to get in the morning thinking it might be something to do with the evening and there was no hot water as well. The staff upfront was helpful in asking if we wanted an engineer to come up we had a check out by that time. Also the condition of the bathroom was not ready for the next guest and there were two water bottles left on a ledge
A very clean and nice hotel which is so close to the university with walking distance, my daughter slept over with me without delaying her lesson in the morning. A great family gathering in the hotel restaurant with good food and happy relaxing atmosphere. Parking in hotel garage is convenient.
This is likely the worst Sheraton I’ve stayed at. Perhaps the San Francisco Sheraton is worse, but this place was terrible. The wallpaper was peeling, the popcorn ceiling was falling apart. I’m every shower I took I was also able to have any foot soak up to my ankles because the drain didn’t drain! Doors are falling apart-looks like they may have experienced some flood at some point because the bottom wood is exposed and clearly chipping along the bottom. Elevators took forever-constant complaint from many guests. Refrigerator was dirty-may never have been cleaned. Bed skirt was just another flat sheet. This place was trashy like a motel. No housekeeping during my stay (perhaps this is a covid protocol, but extra toiletries and towels should have been made available if so. I only had enough for 1 night stay). The desk staff were terrible. I asked for a gift to be delivered to a guest (we were a large group), I ended up having to take it back and it’s in my car still and I’ll have to figure out delivery.I asked the front desk for places to get coffee-they had no suggestions! I asked the concierge for directions to what is (I learned later) a well known address across UPenn and right around the corner from the hotel and he has NO idea-said he didn’t know the area! I stopped even trying to get any help. I love Philly, this is the first and last stay at this Sheraton. Glad it’s over!
There is always a friendly welcome at the front desk. Tammy Rose is my favorite receptionist but Cassidy comes a close second. Chris cheerfully wishes me a good day in the morning. In fact all the staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are clean and the beds very comfortable. There is a fabulous Chinese restaurant in the lobby. This is my home away from home once a week.
Very convenient location. Was very clean, had little interaction with other guests or employees so that was very nice during these times. The room was nice, clean, and comfortable. The toilet sometimes had a little trouble refilling after being flushed, so the bathrooms could maybe use a little updating, but otherwise was very nice.
I expect more from a nice sheraton. This hotel desperately needs to be refreshed but they could at least clean the bathrooms. We found so many hairs throughout the bathroom and bathtub it was disgusting. We were only staying a night but wouldve checked out early if we planned to stay longer. Will not stay here again.
We booked this using the Childrens Hospital code and did not find it to be family friendly. We werent informed that the pool was closed- which crushed our plans for the afternoon between check in and bed time. We also werent able to find anything kid friendly at the Asian restaurant on site...and certainly nothing we felt confident serving before a day of medical surgeries. For a visit to Philly- my husband and I likely would have enjoy this hotel just fine, but when we saw they partnered with CHOP, we expected them to be much more family friendly.
Parking charges were $35. The the hotel only had half of their elevators functional leading to a pile-up of guests in the lobby. No breakfast service. Room was cramped, dirty, and smelled bad. Lobby and halls were humid. This was one of the first hotel stays Ive had in 10 years
The ream needed to be cleaned a bit more. Although it was non smoking, our room had a strong odor of cigarettes smoke. The bed sheets had this smell has well. There was a door in the parking garage that fell off its hinges as we pushed it open.Staff were friendly and the location is decent if you want to be near Penn or Drexel.
The staff could not have been friendlier, more accommodating, or responsive to our needs during our stay. Unfortunately, the property itself seemed a bit dingy, outdated, and in uneven repair. There was constant heavy work occurring in the lobby and elevators for all three days we were there, and the overall impression was of a partially updated hotel that really needed a major/heavy facelift and cleaning.Id assume that the hotel has benefitted for years from a great location near the hospitals and campuses, and just hasnt bothered to bring things up to the general Marriott standards. The staff is left needing to compensate by raising the bar on their level of service (which make no mistake, they certainly do). Five-star service, three-star property.
My first experience IN the hotel was much nicer then making reservations. I was greeted by Kassidy, she was so helpful and took care of a problem I had. Kassidy was also very polite , friendly and it was pleasure seeing her the next night too. The bed was very comfortable and the location was perfect. My husband had surgery at Penn Presbyterian and it was a 10 minute walk. To be honest I was uncomfortable driving in the city so I walked to the hospital. It was a great experience
First, I was not given a discount. My husband was a patient at the hospital of the U of Penn (HUP) and I was told I would receive a discount for my stay. That is not true. My husband would have received a discount but not me. It is hard for me to understand why my husband would get the discount when he already had accommodations at the hospital. It was I who needed the discount but none was given. I was told the elevators were out of commission. Thankfully that was not true as my room was on the 15th floor. The only reason I would need to stay here again is if my husband needs to return to HUP. I wont recommend this hotel to other families who have patients in HUP because of the refusal to give a discount. I certainly was not in Philly for pleasure.
Convenient for what I needed. Looks very underwhelming from the Chestnut Street entrance. My bathroom could have been a lot cleaner, there was some serious dirt buildup around the legs of the vanity and on baseboards. The public areas of the hotel seemed to be kept a lot cleaner though. Even though my rate for cleanliness shows as poor, it was my bathroom that pulled it down. Generally the room was ok, but did not feel cohesive. It did not match the promise of the reception area. It felt dark even with all the lights on and curtains open. If you eat at the attached restaurant, do not order the lamb in cumin, unless you enjoy chewing on old shoe leather. Not good at all. My travelling companion had another dish and said that was ok. Overall we stayed here because the location was convenient. How ever I feel that because the location is so convenient the price gets bumped up.
Rooms were decent & clean. However, our king size bed was too soft &/or worn, both our backs were hurting after the stay, the pillows were were also extremely thin & flimsy almost like laying on a hospital pillow! Lastly, theres an additional $35./fee per night to park your vehicle in the garage if youre in or visiting the Phila. Sheraton..
Bath tub faucet had a continuous drip; found a cockroach near the front door; in room coffee maker leaks, a Mr. Coffee maker with different brand filter (Pikes Peak) doesn’t work together; the pool is out of order; A/C unit too close to bed blowing heavy on right side of bed. Pro: Front desk friendly staff; great housekeeping; great location; attached restaurant very good; comfortable bed;
I ended up having to stay here based on needing emergency availability in the Philly area from being screwed over by another hotel that gave my room away while being 3 hours from home. This place was a blessing and it turned out to be a great experience! The best service I have had in a very long time! I love Anthony and will stay here again any chance I get
There is a reason The Sheraton Philadelphia University City has stood tall amongst all the developement in this area over many years. They do what they do well, and they’ve been doing it since before any of the other upstarts joined the neighborhood. I stayed in this hotel almost 30 years ago, and can tell you that it hasn’t lost a single step along the way. If anything, they’ve only gotten better. If you’re looking for a great hotel, with an amazing staff willing to extend themselves to ensure your stay is the very best it can be, look no further than The Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel!
My family hosted the Wilson family reunion in Philadelphia this weekend. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful and outgoing. We planned this event over a year ago, Kamara Purnell was extremely helpful, encouraging and supportive through the planning process, menu tasting, guest registratio and banquet.
Found a couple of cockroaches when I woke up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Would normally consider roaches in a motel an automatic 1 star but the staff was very kind and accommodating when I had to ask for a new room at 2am. They worked quick and got me into a room 3 floors away from the roaches.
The hotel was very old and the room was not very clean. Staff that checked me in was not very knowledgeable. The restaurant closed early so for food they recommended Wawa. Their shampoo line wss not familiar and had sulfates and chemicals I didnt want to use. Both Marriotts in the city were updated, cleaner and carry environment friendly and sulfate free shampoo and body care products. Would not stay sgsin
The location of this hotel is very good- near the major universities and hospital systems. The staff are wonderful, but the hotel rooms are another story. The rooms are in desperate need of renovations immediately. For a major hotel chain, one would think that Marriott would invest resources to modernize the hotel rooms.
This hotel is one of the worst run places I have ever stayed. My son has been treated at CHOP for the last 7 years and Ive been forced to stay here over 50 nights and this last trip will 100% be my last. The staff is unorganized, doesnt follow through on anything and does the bare minimum (Tammy does try I will say). The rooms are dirty, dusty and ill-equipped. Sinks and showers dont drain, USB provided chargers never work and furniture is beat up. Complaining will get you no where so the general consensus is that no one cares about your stay or experience. The only saving grace is the amazing food and staff at Sankee!
The front desk was extremely friendly! The room was clean, however it was tough to adjust the thermostat. Also, they were doing elevator repair during our trip and the restaurant was closed due to the Snow. However, the location is perfect to everything, so would definitely book again.
Stayed here to move my son into UPenn. Very friendly staff and clean and comfortable accommodations. Parked in the garage, and it was safe and secure. Since breakfast is not offered due to Covid, it would have been good for them to offer something prepackaged and grab and go. Since area restaurants are only open for takeout, we ate in the room. It would have been helpful to have somewhere outside of the room to put the trash from those takeout meals.
Super staff! Every associate was pleasant and helpful. The room amenities were great. Comfortable bed and pillows. Fairly quiet AC. The bathroom had some cleanliness issues, and the sink and shower did not drain well. The bedroom was missing one of two lightweight privacy curtains behind the blackout curtains.Overall, a very pleasant stay. We would return again and would recommend this hotel.
We stayed at the Sheraton University City during my Moms recent surgery visit at the UPenn Hospital. Anthony and the desk staff were very flexible since our departure date was uncertain based upon surgery complications. He was extremely compassionate and even offered us a special rate for hospital visitors. Because of his kindness we will always utilize and recommend Sheraton University City!
This hotel was far more than I could imagine for a center city facility. The staff was extremely kind an courteous. The hotel and room was exceptionally clean and well maintained. I would recommend this hotel to anyone at anytime. Thanks Sheraton for making a difficult medical stay more tolerable.
The hotel was very clean, and check in was a breeze. I would suggest that they have better signage has two parking. Although the hotel is on Chestnut Street, the entrance to the garage and the check in area was on 36th St. Unfortunately, while we were there, one of the elevators was out of service, which led to some delays. Also, the breakfast is advertised as a “ grab and go“ breakfast; it is not! You have to order the breakfast from an employee. He then runs back to the kitchen to make the breakfast. If a second person comes up to order a breakfast, they have to wait for the employee to finish cooking the first breakfast before they can even order.
Check in went ok, got to the room and one of the keys did not work. Went back down and got new key, then the other key did not work. Had to go down a 2nd time to get two new keys. Refrigerator did not work and the multi plug receptor on the night stand did not work. Had to plug phone in across the room. Old faucets in bathroom, felt like they could fall apart at any moment. Was staying there bc my daughter was having early surgery at CHOP. Front desk made a reservation for a Taxi at 5:15am. They said the company was 100% reliable. 5:15 came, no taxi. 5:30 came, no taxi. Taxi never showed. Avoid this hotel!
Overall, it was okay. Stayed there for work due to snow. The rooms were nice, though I wish the bathroom was cleaner. The trash near the ice maker was overflowing in the hallway. Because there was no room cleaning due to the pandemic, everyone was throwing their trash in there. It just made the hallway near the elevator look dirty.
I brought my daughter and her friend to Philadelphia for a college tour and I’m so glad i found this Sheraton on the college website. The location is amazing - right in the middle of the Penn and Drexel campuses with a charming “restaurant row” in converted brownstones only a block away. The hotel staff members made us feel welcome right away. They gave us a walking map and list of restaurants, and helped us find a great restaurant with gluten free options. My daughter and her friend enjoyed the outdoor pool, and were excited that it was open until 10 so they were able to go back after dinner. The room was small (typical of a city hotel) but it was laid out well so it didn’t feel tight, even with 3 of us. The beds and pillows are a-MAY-zing! Seriously, next time I need a new mattress, I’m going straight to the Sheraton website! All 3 of us had a fantastic sleep, which can make or break a trip. Another highlight was that we were able to check out in the morning but keep our car in the garage after checkout. This enabled us to walk over to the college tour & not worry about finding city parking. Also, the club level had a really impressive breakfast spread! We had eggs, fresh berries and melon, and juice. Overall, a great stay!
My husband was having surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. The Sheraton was just three blocks away and an easy walk to the hospital. Everything I needed for my stay was close to the hotel and the staff was super nice about helping me when I had to extend my stay.
The hotel is well located to tour U Penn, and Drexel. The hotel is old, parking is expensive and the taxes, state and city are high, they even have a 22.5% tax on parking. The rooms are old, the beds are comfortable but the rooms are small. Items appear to have been painted and painted over again, and have an old feel.
I have stayed many times at this hotel during my daughters 4 years at UPenn. This stay was to move her out as a senior and as always the hotel is the perfect home base for this. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is in a perfect location for UPenn.
Clean. Kind. Attentive. I have stayed here multiple times for work conferences and they exceed my expectations every time. They are constantly going above and beyond to make sure our stay and meetings go as smooth and pleasant as possible. The location is great and is in walking distance of many delicious restaurants, shopping and parks to walk/run. If you feel like staying in there is a large, amazing, authentic Asian restaurant off the main lobby. I get excited to see when our meeting are held here- I would absolutely recommend it!
We had great times in Sheraton during our sons U Penn move-in days. We considered downtown hotels for better rate at this time of dorm move-in days. However, we did the right decision. Hotel was in the center of Penn campus and had welcome environments for new students and families which was great for the first day as Penn family. Parking was on site and spacious and easy access (and cheaper than downtown hotels around $30). Penn bookstore was one block away. So many foods and convenient stores in front of the hotel. We thought our standard 2 queen room will be tight (299sf) but we actually felt spacious enough. Room was clean and thankfully there was a mini fridge (that I did not see in the hotel amenity). Staffs were very kind. We had bathroom drainage issue but it was OK for just one night and we reported it when we leave. Elevators were very slow (only 2) which could be improved.
Upon my arrival front desk told me breakfast or lounge access is not available. This was surprise. I booked the room due to ready breakfast to attend early morning meeting. Unfortunately I missed it, I had to wait for long time to get breakfast from the restaurant on first floor of the hotel.Room was too small for a family of 4. No space to put the bags shoes or jacket. Closet is too smallShower dip the water like running in budget mode.
Perplexed stay. Having my booking lost, I would be scared to bol again and have issues checking in. Waiting for 40 minutes isn’t easy after a trip. They said they couldn’t locate my name or reservation number! Yet the Marriott call center had it. I had to wait, and then 40 min later they got it. I booked on the Sheraton website to be on the safe side, not any booking page. They later said they were spelling my name incorrectly, how about my reference number? I had forwarded my mail to them, with the correct spelling and number. That was just a cover story, yet insulting my intelligence. While one of the staff proposed to offer me the breakfast as a gift after all this, the second directly charged for it, I would have appreciated such a gesture. Anyway I went to my room, it had the toilet faucet leaking badly. Went to the lobby had the room changed, upgraded to the Club room, thank you, yet the it had the toilet seat leaking. Are all Sheraton so badly maintained? There were only one restaurant, I wished for more options, and the menu is purely asiatic, even for room service food. The afternoon snacks were nice, yet more quantities are needed. The continental breakfast was so poor, not continental at all!! So please don’t call it continental, it would be insulting my intelligence again! (lacking variety and quantity, but tasty). So I am perplexed about the Sheraton! I am deeply sorry for having to report this. I would only recommend it for its proximity to the Step2 CS center. Nothing more. I would love to hear from you again!
We recently stayed at the Sheraton University City so that we could be in close proximity of UPenn campus to help our child move-in. We had stayed at this facility in the past and enjoyed the proximity to campus and the amenities provided by the hotel.Upon check-in, we were warmly greeted at the front desk, and recognized as a returning customer. The young lady who checked us in was friendly and easily answered all of our questions.Soon after getting to our room, a plate of fruit, crackers and cheese was delivered to us, welcoming us and wishing us a pleasant stay. Not long after, we received a phone call from hospitality, again checking on our welfare and seeing if we had any other needs. Our room was well-appointed. The room was clean, and the bed and linens were comfortable and high quality. We enjoyed the view from our room.We enjoyed a meal at the adjoining Chinese restaurant. We took advantage of the on-site swimming pool and fitness center. In all of our years of travel for business and pleasure, in the U.S., Canada, and overseas, we have never been treated so warmly and with such care. We truly did feel like part of the family during our stay.We will highly recommend this hotel to our friends and family. And we will certainly plan to stay at the hotel for future visits.
I chose this hotel for location in downtown Phila. near Market Street. The exterior of the hotel and the lobby were rather shabby. The check-in was efficient and the staff were friendly. I was upgraded to the club floor. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. The room appeared modern with updated furnishings and plenty of outlets and good lighting. Internet worked well. I visited the club lounge for evening snacks and breakfast. Food and beverage offerings were plentiful and varied. The club lounge itself is due for a makeover. During breakfast, it was surprising how many families were there, instead of the typical business crowd I would have expected. It made we question how these families came to be on the club floor and what the Sheraton brand really means these days.
Weve been to this property multiple times, and the level of consistency, gracious accommodation, and hospitality always makes our stays feel exceptional. We cant say enough great things about the staff, and while the property is a bit older (and being refreshed), its the people that make things amazing.
Hotel was relatively clean. Parking garage is a bit outdated and difficult to maneuver around d/t very narrow lanes and large pillars every 2-3 parking spaces. Our room was clean - as was bathroom. However the television had a green vertical line through it and the bed seemed to be sunken down in the middle and was not extremely comfortable. The linens looked very clean and all smelled clean. Outside street noise (garbage truck at 3am!) traffic and hallway noise seemed very loud in the room. Internet access was sketchy at best....especially on the lower levels where the conference rooms are. Any food we had was very good! Staff provided breakfast, 2 breaks and lunch for my conference and we were pleased with all. The room was big enough and set up well - however the temperature ranged from too hot to freezing cold!!! A good deal for the price....
Was glad to have stayed in what was a Plesent and easy access from major highways. There team was attentive and accommodating even with last minute needs of our group. Greater by Bell man who was friendly helpful. Front deadline was able to get us in our room st 9:30AM which is always appreciated when your meets start at 11. Room was clean and up to date furnishings and decor. Would have like more then a noodle house as it’s only restaurant on premises but that worked out and several other eateries were within walking distance so not s big issue. Only observation is that would have liked more upscale restaurants nearby so you could have walked to as well.Overall , will be back and look forward to another Plesent stay.
Bed is very comfortable. Rooms are above average in space. Shower head is pretty low so unless youre under six foot youll have to duck but water pressure is respectable. Enough outlets for all your gadgets and if you get the right side of the hotel youll have great views. Staff is also extremely friendly. Not the best location but close enough to walk to a number of great restaurants.
This hotel was recommended to me by friends in medical school based on proximity to the testing center. Was pleased at the cleanliness of my room. Hotel is in a safe part of Philly. Also the staff was excellent! Front desk staff were welcoming and friendly and did everything in their power to make sure my stay went well. Would definitely recommend this hotel to other students visiting the area!!
We needed to stay at a hotel in close proximity to the hospital. We definitely made the right choice by staying at the Sheraton University City. The entire staff were courteous, friendly, professional and very attentive to our needs from guest relations to housekeeping to management, we couldnt have asked for a better experience.
The service wasn’t even that good. We check into a room and already we find dirty towels, the lamp between the bed flickers when trying to move it, the bathroom lights were not fully functional, and the closet door was broken. I called for toilet paper and they only brought up 1 roll, they refuse to do cleaning because of the pandemic, and parking is $8 an hour but in total it’s $35 a day. A three star hotel that charges full price that doesn’t even offer full service. I don’t take Covid as an excuse to refuse doing a room clean when nobody is in the room! THEN, it’s “Take the elevator down to the lobby so we can take ANOTHER elevator to get to the garage. While others content with their service, if I have to pay full price for services we don’t even get From a 3 star hotel, I’m making a review about it.
First of all, I have to say that the staff was extremely friendly and personable... which can be hit or miss in Philly. The common areas of the hotel were nice and clean too, setting a pretty good standard.Alas, the room has issues. It was clear, upon a quick cursory inspection, that the room needed to be deep cleaned. The beds were fine, the bathroom was clean... but alas, the small table had clearly not been wiped in quite some time. The AC unit had been splattered with what looked like droplets from red sauce, and the filter on the AC unit was caked with dust. There was also what looked like water damage near the sprinkler... not a huge deal, but noticable nonetheless. Were it just a matter of the staff, Id stay again. Given the somewhat dingy state of the room, though, Ill probably look elsewhere my next trip.
I loved this hotel. We stayed here in a very difficult time because my daughter was really really sick so we had to be flown out to Philadelphia from Ohio so she could be seen by doctors at chop. All three local Ronald McDonalds houses were full and so paid for us to stay at the Sheraton while my daughter was in patient being treated. The staff was awesome the room was nice and the bed was comfortable and we loved being able to go swimming as entertainment outside of the hospital room. We also had breakfast included every day and it was wonderful.
This was a last minute trip; we found out late Friday evening that we needed to be in West Philadelphia for 7:30am Saturday morning. I checked area hotels and when I saw the Sheraton so close to our destination, I looked no further. I usually travel alone, but this trip my daughter and granddaughter were with me, so there was no room for error in room selection. We arrived late, about 9:45pm and were greeted by the Belhop at the entry - He asked if we needed help and we said Yes !! He told us he would be there as soon as he took care of a couple leaving the hotel. In no time at all he was back, took our luggage and escorted us to the front desk. Tammy at the Front Desk was absolutely charming and welcoming to my daughter, granddaughter and myself ! After our long drive she was just what we needed ! While I took the car to the garage, our bellhop escorted my daughter & granddaughter to the room with our luggage, they were impressed with his courteous and professional manner. We ordered breakfast room service and the service called us early Saturday morning to make sure we had placed our order correctly, my daughter indicated 3 people, but ordered only 2 meals,(my daughter and my granddaughter were sharing a meal). I thought it was so considerate to call and confirm instead of just delivering. The delivery lady was a sweetheart too, making sure everything was right and that we were pleased. We all agreed the room was super clean, the beds and pillows comfy, in short PERFECT ! We left early the next morning (7am) for our appointment and the gentlemen at the Front Desk were wonderful - taking care of our charges and wishing us a great day. Not to be all gushy and over the top, but everyone’s attitude and interaction with us was actually uplifting ! With all the anxiety and inherent chaos of a last minute trip, staying at the Sheraton was the perfect antidote ! Thank You to your great staff, you made a very positive impression on all of us, but especially my daughter and granddaughter !
The staff are very friendly and genuine, and were helpful with regard to local recommendations. I was staying over during my wifes hospitalization at nearby Penn. I had a king size bed on the 12th floor, which was very comfortable and allowed for a couple nights solid sleep. The rooms cosmetic features are in need of updating and upgrading, as the wallpaper appears to be from the 80s, with various stains perhaps as old that didnt invite close inspection. Similarly, the carpeting had patches of bleached discoloration. The bathrooms also got a dated feel, though the shower had nice water pressure. its a decent hotel for the rates; twenty years ago I imagine it was a very good hotel. Of course, if it is fixed up the rates will no doubt be impacted accordingly.
My stay for a week was very comfortable. We traveled with our Maltese dog and he enjoyed the environment. The Sheraton Club was exceptional and added to our experience. The accessable room was comfortable however the in room lightning was horrible. The bathroom lights were warm traditional bulbs so my wife could not apply makeup or prep as she wanted. And as a SPG member I was extremely disappointed that there was no accessable room on the club level with views of the city. However my overall experience was great which was made possible by the attentive, personable, friendly staff. Even in the midst of bad press I could tell the friendlyness was genuine.
I attended an annual meeting for my company this past week and the Sheraton was amazing! Every staff member was accommodating and helpful. The location was just perfect - easy to walk to cool pubs and restaurants. The area has a super cool vibe. The banquet team that helped us during our meeting each day was wonderful. The food was delicious with lots of healthy options which helped keep our group from getting that after-lunch urge to nap. Our meeting room was perfectly refreshed after each break. Just perfect!
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and quick to react when we asked for additional blankets (people in our family do not like to share blankets). The front desk called to make sure we were happy and we were. We used the early morning breakfast delivery service, the meals were huge and delicious.
I came to this hotel for a business trip and stayed for five nights. Overall, I wouldnt recommend this hotel. Ive been to a decent range of hotels due to business travel and this is definitely one of my worst experiences. Some issues from my stay:1. The bathroom wasnt properly cleaned. There were hairs on the walls of the shower and around the sink.2. The bathroom door doesnt shut. The door may have been painted too many times or just misaligned, it would not fit within the door frame.3. The hotel was having issues with its fire alarm system one night. Starting around 12AM, the alarm went off three different times. After each false alarm, hotel staff got on the PA system to apologize. Fine, I appreciate the apology, but they apologized twice for each false alarm. In total, I was disturbed by the loud alarm/PA system going off nine times that night until the last incident around 1:30AM. Three false alarms and six loud apologies. Some criticisms:1. The wallpaper within the rooms are dated and dirty with obvious stains in some parts.2. The bathroom shower should have its own light, it is too dim with the shower curtain closed.3. I was in room 1503, one of the rooms at the end of the hallway and it was noticeably smaller than all other rooms on the floor. If Im paying the same rate as everyone else, I expect the same sized room.4. No minifridge5. Air quality seems iffy. Im not overly sensitive to air quality, but my sinuses were acting up every time I went into my room.
Spacious and clean rooms with the hotel closely located to the campus. Interior is slightly dated and the lift can have its moments however from speaking to staff, refurbishments are due. Nonetheless the staff were absolutely fantastic and very courteous and proactive.
I stayed at the Inn at Penn across the street but since the parking was so expensive with the hotel we went across the street and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were extremely helpful and we got a good price. Didn’t stay in the hotel but definitely recommend the parking!
The staff there is very friendly. But i did ask for extra towels did. It receive. The water pressure is a little low compares to other hotels. And I understand I was on the 8th floor but I would hate to see what the people above me experienced. But location is great. Parking has a fee which shocked me if I am staying at a hotel would not expect to pay parking. But for $35 a night in the city is not all that bad especially since they do give a little discount. And you can check out at 12 but stay in garage until 6 so that is nice.
If your looking for a hotel close to Drexel University or UPenn, the Sheraton University City is the answer. The hotel has a parking garage if needed for a daily fee. Close to public transportation. The hotel staff is friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was hot, delicious and delivered on time. Booking direct gets the best rate. Can be pricey at busier times. Overall nice hotel in the University City area.
We stayed at the Sheraton Philadelphia University Hotel and had a great stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, and the PILLOWS were awesome! We were on the 19th floor so it was pretty quiet. The complimentary continental breakfast was also quite nice. The only thing I would suggest needs improvement is that they need their own restaurant. There is an Asian restaurant that is attached to the hotel but seems to be independent, and the food was awful. On another note, my husband ordered room service and his sandwich and fries were great.
The room was nice and the bed comfortable but the shower was quite old and at a low height. Small gel/shampoo recipients that were not replenished by default. The breakfast breakfast room service was 30 late. For the price, I probably wont repeat. The gym facilities were simple but new and that covered many exercises.
The hotel was clean, staff was professional, knowledgeable & helpful. It was a pleasure to deal with the all of the associates. The staff tries to anticipate your needs. Always ending the conversation with please do not hesitate to contact the front desk with any questions or concerns,
I stayed at this Sheraton for 3 nights with my family for a scientific conference. The room was a little small for a family, but clean and everything was in good working order. Any issues we ran into during our stay were minor and addressed immediately by the staff. Preparation for the event gave me a number of opportunities to interact with staff and each experience was met with a smile, greeting, kindness, and a genuine desire to help. I felt like our group was very welcomed and well cared for during our stay. We will definitely be staying at this hotel again on subsequent visits to Philadelphia. Thank you Philadelphia Sheraton, Staff!
We’re blown away by the personal experiences we’ve had here. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and understanding. You all truly went out of your ways to accommodate all of our needs and your staff is unbelievably productive and very helpful. We will definitely be coming back and referring your hotel to others. We really feel like a part of the family here and THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!VERY VERY clean, design is accommodating to all, and overall pleasurable view of the city of Philadelphia. Very comfortable feel and the beds, linens, down to the towels were soft and perfectly put together. Our 6 month old son is sick in the NICU at CHOP here in Philadelphia and we needed a place to stay. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a sleep room at the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House’s are booked. Ron and the other nice woman at the front desk she has tons of energy and brought up a robe and bath mat to me personally! She was so very nice, compassionate and accommodating. Ron helped my fiancé and I so very much, with keeping us comfortable by giving us the pleasure to try and relax, also by being so very understanding. He was kind enough to keep a room on “on hold” for a few days while booked up entirely as we payed while we could bc our funds unfortunately are low at the moment and my fiancé was waiting for his direct deposit and I had been waiting for my bank to transfer my funds from my savings into my checking account. (Do not expect this as our situation was proved and conditional) we’re SO very grateful for both of them and the entire staff .I provided a lengthy experience of the staff but again, RON, and the woman at the front desk, who I regrettably have forgotten her name, she’s a bit older but works like she’s in her 20s and I believe Tammy was her name but then again I am so stressed that’s probably wrong. I apologize. I hope she’s gets the recognition she deserves though, and also Ron. The both of them went truly out of their way to accommodate all of our needs personally and we are so grateful for their kindness and compassion. The housekeeping staff are kind and always helped with getting us things needed like lotion and other things as we don’t have much personal hygiene items on us at the moment, the security man named Russell was very kind and helpful and pretty much the entire staff. We are so very pleased. They really do go above and beyond for their guests and we’re quite pleased with our experiences with them all.
I stay at the Sheraton University City multiple times a year for business travel. This is my 5th year of staying there. The executive lounge is a nice touch and is convenient when the room rate works out. The bathrooms are nice and neat. Check in/out is always very fast. The only trouble I have is that there is always something that is out of order or under maintenance when Im visiting: water system, elevators, key card... I suppose i cant hold it against them for improving the hotel though. They use a new line of soap that i adore the scent of. The rooms are always in top shape, but dont look up at the nasty popcorn ceiling. Ill stay here again for convenience, but in all my travels Ive never had a superb experience there or a notable moment of an employee going above and beyond.
I chose the Sheraton University City because my daughter was having her freshman orientation at Drexel University and I wanted to stay at the closest hotel to Drexel for convenience purposes. This hotel was literally a 5 minute walk to Drexel. When I made the reservation (several months in advance) I requested a corner room on a high floor. Well, they put us in a corner room on the 18th floor (out of 20). So, right off the bat, we knew they listened to our request. Our room was outstanding (we had a junior suite). It was immaculate and far more spacious than I had expected. The bathroom was modern with a walk in tile shower and glass door. I hate when a hotel room is expensive and then the bathroom is totally outdated with tub/shower combos. We had access to the club lounge on the 20th floor where we could get coffee, juice, fresh fruit, beverages, muffins, bagels, etc in the morning and then in the evening they had cheese and crackers, hot appetizers, fresh fruit, etc. The staff responded immediately when I called for linens for the pull-out sofa bed. The weather was beautiful so I was able to go running outdoors in the city, but of course I had to check out the fitness center, which was well equipped with newer looking treadmills and ellipicals, and some weight lifting equipment. It looked very clean, as did the outdoor swimming pool, which unfortunately we did not have time to swim in. Everybody was friendly and helpful. The room was worth the extra money I spent for the junior suite. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Clean and very hospitable. Everyone is kind and lite hearted in spite of the pandemic. Kind of wished the pool and fitness centers were open but I understand the nature of the situation. The rooms are cozy and comfortable, I really dont have any complaints about this place
I stayed here for an extended period of time due to needing to be closer to my job during the pandemic. The staff is all lovely and treated me well. They respected all social distancing guidelines and understood that healthcare professionals might have weird check in/out times. Thank you for all you did for us!
Had a short business trip stay. I have stayed at this location several time before and each time the staff has been very helpful and attentive. they want to make sure that we enjoy our stay. The hotel is a short walk to restaurants. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. A bit noisy at night but that is to be expected in a busy downtown location.
The friendly staff and service is second to none. The location would have only been better if the whole city would have been in the hotel. The restaurants and attractions, along with the proximity to transportation was excellent. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The view of the city from the room is excellent. Within walking distance of most things, but transportation was always only minutes from the front door.
Staff members were pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable and quiet. It was Drexel move-in weekend, and I was surprised at how quiet it was, in fact. I was disappointed in some small housekeeping items. There was only one bar of soap in the bathroom, so i had to keep moving it from the sink to the tub. Also, when I arrived, there was the typical small coffee maker with some good quality tea bags and those prepackaged Starbucks coffee packets. I used them all up the first day and assumed they would be replenished when housekeeping cleaned the room. I was out all day at an event, and I was very disappointed when I got back at 9 p.m. and nothing had been replaced. I suppose I could have called and requested refills, but I was tired after a long day so I just went to sleep and walked over to Starbucks in the morning. If not for these things, I would have given the hotel five stars. Also, they should be better about updating their web site. It said that the outdoor pool was closed, and when I checked in, the cheerful clerk told me they had decided to keep it open because the weather was so mild. I hadnt brought my suit, and apparently neither had any of the other guests because no one used the really gorgeous looking pool the whole weekend. And the temperature was near 90.
We choose the hotel due its location for our Easter weekend, a good starting point for our city cycling tours. We specially reserved a room at a higher rate with breakfast included, thinking of being able to enjoy an Easter Brunch. Unfortunately, the hotel lobby was under construction and no restaurant was available. Instead, we were directed to the club lounge on the 20th floor, a small facility with a temporary kitchen bar next to a computer desk where omelettes were cooked. On both days, the club room was overcrowded, self service, simple airline lounge type experience with paper cups and plastic cutlery. We definitely got disappointed. On the other hand, the room itself was in new conditions, good, comfortable beds, nice bathroom. Also, thes staff was very friendly, just would have expected to be made aware of the breakfast situation and the manager should have found a more decent solution.
I am a regular SPG customer and Platinum guest. I travel for work almost every week, and have stayed at a variety of hotels across the country and world.I was traveling on my birthday, and mentioned this during my check-in. A few hours later, the manager knocked on the door with a gift bag with candy, treats from Philly and a card with notes from the front desk staff. How amazing!Although parts of the hotel look older, I stayed on the Club floor and thought the rooms were nicely updated and the bed very comfortable. I also liked the club lounge. I wish that the room service was a little nicer, but I ended up eating at one of the restaurants nearby and really enjoyed it. I also had a drink at the bar and loved it!
Positive: Location - close to UPenn campus Negative: It was a very disappointing experience. Everything was very dated. The room smelled very bad like it hasn¿t been used or cleaned for years. Had a bad allergy reaction because the poor air quality and could not sleep well.
The rooms are dated. The shower heads are old and spray mists, the elevators smelled funny, and there was still trash left under the beds from previous guests. Everything is extra. From parking to breakfast, to the 4$ bottle of water left in the room. For as much as you pay for a room at a Sheraton, you would think more would be included. Surprisingly, they are pet friendly and do not charge a fee. Overall its not bad, but certainly not worth the price.
I rarely review hotels, but felt that this was an important one to provide. The Sheraton University City is a great hotel in terms of proximity to Penn, Drexel, and West Philly. The room was spacious, and since I was on the 18th floor, I had a great view of University City and Center City. The bed was clean and comfortable, and everything in the room worked properly. However, there was one major issue that occurred during my stay - the elevators did not work multiple times, and since I was on the 18th floor, this was a big inconvenience. At first, because one was not functioning and on the ground floor, for some reason you could only get on one of the other three when someone brought an elevator down to depart. Later that evening after returning from dinner, none of the elevators were working. We waited for more than an hour for the elevators to work again, then everyone decided to just walk up the stairs instead. After expressing my frustration with walking up 18 flights of stairs to SPG Customer Service, I was contacted by the manager, who left a voicemail on my hotel phone that I can only describe as condescending in tone. She said that the elevators were not working due to a pulled fire alarm and they made multiple announcements that I would have heard if I was there, but I and other guests were downstairs in the lobby for over an hour and we were all confused because no announcement was made.Sheraton University City is in a fantastic location, and the rooms are great. However, I may ultimately elect to stay somewhere else in the future because of the elevator issues and how my concerns were treated afterwards.
I was not overwhelmed with my stay here. I was placed in a suite style room next to loud guests that could be heard through the connecting doors. My shower did not drain and I was left standing in shin deep water at the end of each shower. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. However, I was not pleased to find a bag of trash left over from housekeeping in the middle of the floor when I returned to my room one evening. This is unacceptable.I was very impressed by the gym and the pool. The gym has up to date equipment and was kept spotless. The pool area was accommodating and tidy.
I stayed here for proximity to U Penn and the Birth Year Rate. The hotel was comfortable and within easy walking distance to the university. I did not find the reception area particularly helpful and the room type that I requested was not available by check in time even though I had tried to check in several hours earlier. In most hotels that I have stayed at, I am usually asked for a cell phone number and then they call when a room becomes available. I also had to ask for my room to be adjusted to reflect the Birth Year Rate which seemed confusing to the reception staff. I would have thought it would be easy to just cancel my first bill and redo a corrected bill rather than pull out a calculator and try to figure out everything. The hors douerves in the club lounge were pretty bad the first night as was the breakfast so we elected to skip that the second night and have our appetizers out at the restaurant. However, the attendant for the the lounge was very nice that night and provided us with cupcakes that were actually quite delicious. She was very nice since the lounge was closing up for the night. I did like that the club lounge provides a microwave and a computer. Those are handy for travelers when the lounge is not serving food items. I also liked that cold drinks were available from a fridge in the lounge. Taxis are very available too which was handy for getting around. However, no one took any time to suggest anywhere to go. There was no one at the concierge desk any time that I walked through the lobby. You just help yourself to a map and if the reception desk isnt busy, they will point you in the right direction and they did give me a preferred restaurant list within walking distance.
This hotel cost more than I have ever spend on a hotel, which is usually around $40 a night. We spent five days and four night here for my daughters surgery at CHOP. It was $139 a night plus $25 a day for parking (crazy!) and they did not offer a continental breakfast because we did not spend enough on our rooms. Also there are no microwaves or fridges in the rooms, which is very unfortunates because my daughter had meds that needed refridgerated after her surgery and so we had to store them in the ice bucket. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, the walls were very dthin I could hear every person on our floor go in and out of their rooms. There are four elevators and I swear that only one runs at a time and it takes forever to get anywhere. The pool is outside, but is not heated or cleaned. The shallow end is 4ft tall which was a bit too deep for my daughter, and there were bugs everywhere and no hot tub. Even though it was 94 degrees outside the water was freezing cold. I am very very unsatisfied with this hotel and what it did not offer when I needed it to. The only positive experience that I had was the cleaning lady was the nicest and most considerate person ever!
I stayed at this Sheraton with my Starwood points. I was nicely welcomed when I arrived. They stored my bags while I headed to the Phila. Flower Show as my room was not ready. The concierge was not interactive or very friendly. He could use some coaching on customer service. The next day, we came downstairs, as we were told we could get breakfast at the hotel restaurant, an Asian restaurant off the lobby. But surprisingly, the restaurant did not have many things on their small menu, including bacon, waffles, and tea. The restaurant was also very cold, and apparently this is normal, as they had space heaters placed all around the room. The waiter and the cook got into a heated argument about waffles while we were there. We decided to leave and went across the street to Spread, which was excellent. Stay at the hotel, but dont count on the restaurant for food.
Jacqueline Silva was an amazing at check in. Im 54yrs old and have traveled to many destinations. Ive never experienced such great customer care. She went above and beyond to ensure my stay was exceptional!!! The rooms were very clean. I will stay at this hotel everytime Im in Philly. This lady definitely deserves a raise and a promotion!! This review is from an Air Force Veteran. She thanked me for my service more than once. What a great person!!
Nice Hotel, staff is nice. Located very close to the hospital. I would say if you are calling for early check-in, make sure you are taking to the actual hotel and not a call center. We were told our room was ready at noon. Which was great, bc we could drop our stuff first and then go see my nephew prior to surgery. We got their and the room wasnt actually ready. I was supposed to get a call while I hung out w my kids at the pool to let us know if room was ready. An hour later I call and they said it was! But, that was the call center again. Finally got connected to the actual front desk but it just rang. I had to get kids out of the pool lug our stuff down again to the lobby. At that point we were told that the room was ready for some time, they just forgot to call. So we missed seeing my nephew prior to surgery. Not the end of the world, just would have been good for him and us as a family. Also, room service takes quite some time.
Great location, lots of things within walking distance: shops, bars, restaurants etc. Lobby was a great place to gather. Nice bar and restaurant attached. The front desk staff were professional and extremely efficient. Kudos to them. My room was fantastic: clean & warm with a great view of the city. Slept like a baby. The banquet facilities were nice as well but the staff...wow...absolutely amazing! Again, professional, accommodating, and friendly. The food and snacks that were prepared for us were amazing from the omelet station to our hot chocolate break, assortment of soups, salads and sandwiches, soft pretzel bites with mustard and cheese...oh my goodness! Beautifully displayed and even yummier. I have definitely found my home away from home. Shout out to Delores, Mark, Ricky, Theresa, Chris, Ryan, Ron and Davida. Thank you for making this small town girl feel like family. Go Eagles!
Initially, I had concerns about this hotel, based on confusion with my reservation and online reviews. Having said that, the front desk staff were WONDERFUL. I can honestly say that everyone I dealt with could not have been more patient, kind and helpful. The rooms were for the most part, up to date and very clean - I do a lot of stretching, and even under the beds was spotless. The fitness center was spacious and well equipped. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
This facility has the superb location advantage. Some common areas were recently renovated, but the rooms are still tired , although some new tile has been laid in right in the rooms entrance.Cleaning ladies are very nice, but the actual cleaning can improve. We noticed the bathroom floor had not been properly cleaned at least in one of the days in our stay.Staff is very courteous and helpful..
My husband was going in for Open Heart Surgery, our family was stressed to say the least. From the moment we walked in the staff was professional, understanding and very kind. Day before surgery..they actually remembered and made sure our family knew they would be thinking of us. Housekeeping was amazing. Rooms were always clean. We had a minor issue that was immediately addressed and resolved with unbelievable professionalism and kindness. I would most definitely stay here at anytime we may need to return to the area. I would highly recommend this Hotel.
The hotel was very nice once we arrived I was really surprised by the quality. The staff were helpful and very polite. The room was clean and looked nice but the bathroom was a little outdated and needed a deep clean. We really enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel and checkout was very easy. Thank you
I recently stayed here for a business trip. Right in the heart of West Philly, and within walking distance of UPENN. The lobby was very nice, and the room was pretty standard. While this place isnt as posh as Penn Ivy hotel, it was a very nice stay overall. Very nice front desk staff who were SUPER helpful and delivered excellent customer service (regardless of what time I went there). Within walking distance of everything!
The entire staff welcomes you in the most friendly way and they make you feel safe and you feel like your family. The rooms are very clean. They are always eager and willing to help if you call upon them for anything. Very hospitable at all times. I would highly recommend the Sheraton as one of the best hotels that we always stay at.The entire staff are friendly, courteous and they go out of their way to help wherever they can. Great people!! We always feel like we are family when we stay at the Sheraton.Thank you Sheraton for having such an amazing staff and a super hotel.
The Sheraton is your place to stay for business of pleasure. The rooms are quiet and the location of the hotel is convenient. The staff members are professional and friendly and the food is good. The hotel is environmentally friendly. Ask for a high floor when you book; the views of the city are amazing especially at night.
This was a stay that met and exceeded my expectations. I checked in late but the front desk was waiting and ready. When I requested a king size bed, they upgraded me to a concierge floor to be able to accommodate my request...Classy!It was also a very nice touch that the pleasant check-in person recognized that I was an SPG member and gave me extra attention. Breakfast was nice; room was elegant and comfortable. The only complaint was the unusually high cost of self-parking ($25/night).
My favorite hotel in Philadelphia for many years but with not being back in 8 plus years I wasnt sure what to expect. When I walked in I was surprised and delighted to see much of the staff was still there! The same with housekeeping. When people stay with their jobs it shows that management cares. That caring translates to their guests. Very comfortable lobby that guests actually use! Sheraton is know for their beds and these are super comfy. Making my way to the club lounge Sunday morning I was thrilled to see a smiling man standing there ready to make me a yummy omelet. The location is very convenient to public transportation. Business or a family vacation the Sheraton University City should be your top pick.
My daughter and I came for 3 nights to look at the schools in Philadelphia, and this was the perfect hotel for us. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, location was great. We were able to walk or take the subway everywhere, and the staff were very warm and helpful at every turn.
This is a dirty, terrible hotel without Handicapped Accessible rooms. Doorways are too small for wheelchair to get through. Wheelchair cant fit open in room by desk. Staff not helpful at all. Shower doesnt work correctly, pipes make loud noises and hot & cold reversed. Our room was never cleaned at all. Did not get clean towels and cups. Bathroom floor floods from shower. Asians restaurant not good. Brochure says restaurant open to 10:30 am door locks at 10:00. Parking garage is very narrow with sharp turns. Cars get side dont Stay There especially if you have Children in CHOP Hospital.
Really the only good things were location and cleanliness. Full size bed had king size sheets so slipped off all night long. Temp control in room was terrible. Fan is stuck on high and theres a wind all the way across the room. What ever you set the thermostat for it went 5 extra degrees. Shower head was eye level for me at 56, and the water was barely warm. Not a great place to stay.
We choose this hotelBecause of the great location in University City. Bathroom was designed as accessible. Only room with. King left. Grab bar separating from back walll. No holders in shower area or shelves for shampoo etc. ENTIRE bathroom got wet. We hadto use our towels on the floor for safety reasons!Tiny room- no idea how a wheelchair would fit-besides the point. Only one nightstand. Used a chair to place my book, water bottle and eyeglasses!AC/Heater was so loud! We shut it off in order to be able to sleep but heard the one next door Parking garage was do tight that when car was going out and one in, you had to backup into space. An ATM machine in the lobby next to the front desk was a problem. It took forever to connect and then declined our cash request. Woman at front desk: 1. slow connection due to lots of WIFI users and 2. then the machine may be empty. That night the ATMcompany stillCharged us our requested amount of cash. Today, we are presently trying to have this resolved with our bank. It’s in your lobby-it’s your business to make sure it’s working correctly Last but not least: NOHBO! Come one. Will not use this Sheraton again.
Overall happy with my stay, however the staff is a little standoff-ish and crabby. The quality of food in the concierge was mediocre but edible enough to munch on if your hungry. Soft drink options were pretty limited too but had the standard Coke products, which were good enough. Quality of breakfast could use some work. Eggs are runny, bread gets stale from sitting out and fruit options are pretty limited. But what can I say its free if your platinum so Ill take what i can get. The only thing that was really bothersome and frustrating were the elevators are slow and on my day of checkout there was no hot water to take a shower. The remodeled rooms were nice. The Sheraton beds are always comfortable, i had enough space to do work on the desk, the rooms were clean, and I had a view of the city. It is in close proximity to downtown and Penn. I would stay again.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay while visiting colleges. It was conveniently located, the beds were very comfortable, the room was clean, there were nice amenities on the room, and the WiFi worked well. We would definitely stay here again the next time we visited Philadelphia.
I was very disappointed in this hotel for numerous reasons. First was value. For the rate I was charged I expected a much nicer room. The lamp shades were unmatching and one was held together with tin-foil. the tray the coffee machine was on was dirty. The carpet was stained and dirty looking. The bedding was nice but the beds were not that comfortable. The staff working the front desk were not friendly and not very helpful. The manager was the only one who seemed to know anything. He was friendly and helpful. I needed to stay in a hotel close to childrens hospital in Philadelphia. I was told they were sold out for that special rate yet when the fire alarm went off in the middle of night and we needed to evacuate the hotel it was very clear to see the hotel was not even half full. What do they only have like 2 rooms at this rate? I did tell the hospital they should take this hotel off their list. I will never return
The hotel was ok, but that was little to say the least. When I was staying here 2 elevators went out of service and it took about 10 minutes just to get an elevator for a 15 second venture. There isnt a easily accessible bathroom on the first floor but rather the lower level and the rooms are adequately kept at best.
Do you like staying at a hotel frequently enough that you learn staff faces, but you get asked every time you check in if this is your first time there by people youve talked to a dozen times before? Do you like having the wind howl in through poorly insulated wall-mounted HVAC units, only to have the engineer tell you ownership is delaying re-caulking these for cost reasons? Most of all, do you love fire alarms going off in the middle of the night prompting you to prepare to evacuate while they investigate the cause of the alarm? And then again an hour later? And again an hour later? Do you like, when complaining about this experience, the response to be Sorry about that? When you have status at the hotel? Do you enjoy these issues happening more than once over the course of a year during other stays at the same hotel? If so, this is the place for you! This is the most disappointing example of the Sheraton brand out there. Stay here only if you must. Its location is convenient on Penns campus and its price is reasonable but thats about all its got going for it.
There are a few reasons we wouldnt go back and I dont recommend it. We were in room 1028. When we arrived, the tv was not working. They sent someone to fix it- it was not plugged in and he had to move heavy furniture to plug it in. While doing that, he managed to make the phone inoperative. I fixed that myself. But the biggest problem was that the door was too small for the frame (using a credit card I bet anyone could get in) and the lock was not working. Finally, there was a stain on the wall and another one by the switch by the door. AND, they didnt make the bed between nights. The tub looked dirty. In general, the hotel is run down. Two elevators were out of order. That is horrible because tons of people would get in the elevators that were working. Some without madks and unwilling to put one on. HORRIBLE
My check-in was wonderful, and the staff was incredibly friendly; however, I was kept up for half the night by loud cooling/heating equipment and pipework, which hit a peak with 6AM construction and crane work outside my window. Then, on the way out, I was charged for 48 hours of parking instead of a day and a half. Finally, I was hit with about $45 of hidden fees. Wishing I had stayed elsewhere...
My family and I stayed at the Sheraton University city for a tour of Drexel university. I liked the closeness to the University within walking distance. The Hotel was nice looking inside and outside. The only thing was the parking. You had to park in the parking garage cause there was limited time allowed to park on the street. But that was a good thing I guess $35 wasn’t to bad compared to having to constantly feed the meters.
Overall, this was a disappointment. Obviously, an older property in need up updating. Relatively clean. Nice staff. Good location. Only one restaurant. Thermostat was not always responsive, so adjusting the temperature was frustrating. I was at a conference: the food was good, service was good, meeting and presentation rooms not so well laid out, chairs in some rooms were extremely uncomfortable. I stayed at Sheratons all over the world in the 70s, 80s and 90s. This one might have been better back in the day.
I love the upgrades done at the hotel. Rooms look great, clean, and comfortable. Facility grounds are exceptionally maintained. Staff is extremely personable and professional. Ron conducted my check in. He was courteous, professional, friendly, and went out of his way to ensure my stay was exceptional. Great location, great area of Philadelphia. Its close in proximity to all needs.
It overpriced but youre paying for convenience. Pool was nice. And the restaurant downstairs is amazing! The room was clean but just an average room. Parking garage is ridiculous. It is very small and sharp turns. Smaller then typical parking garages in terms of lanes. And the price to park there is ridiculous but also typical of the area.
We booked our rooms to stay on November 10th for a family wedding. When I booked I clicked the drop down box for an 11 am arrival. I realize that that didnt guarantee an 11 am check-in but the fact that it asks you the assumption would be that I would get in before 3pm. On the morning of the 10th I called the front desk to ask about early check-in and was told it would be nearly impossible because the hotel was at full capacity. But that as soon as I arrived my name would be added to a first available list. Upon arrival at 1:30 pm on 11/10. The front desk area was pretty chaotic lots of people and lots of confusion. When I spoke to front desk attendant I was told that they hoped they could get us in by 3pm but it could be as late as 4 pm before we get in. Something about a lot of preferred guest that had requested 4pm check-out times. We had pre-blocked rooms for a wedding party and we should of had rooms ready when we arrived. My 78 year old mother had to change in an exercise room literally sitting on exercise equipment while getting dressed. I dont believe she ever got in to her room until 11pm after the wedding ended. I was finally given a room at 3pm but had to share the room with several of my other family members that had not received their rooms yet so that they could get ready. Just what my wife needed to ruin her day was trying to shower while there were 4 men in the room.We missed the shuttle to the wedding and had to take an UBER. I work in retail and I understand things happen. But I feel I would have a hard time recommending your hotel to anyone at this point. You may not care what I think or how my experience was But I can speak for at least 20 of your guests and all of them left with a bad taste in their mouth. Thanks for listening
We had a wonderful stay. We were especially pleased with the concierge lounge, where we had a great breakfast, and with the technological service. The wifi was terrific and the vast choice of cable TV channels was a great find at the end of a long day on our feet. It was so nice to be able to stretch out on a big comfortable bed with perfectly clean linens and relax. Well be back.
It is already exhausting having a loved one in a hospital, but when they are in longer than you expect, and you need a place to stay, it becomes more stressful. I am grateful for the Sheratons special rate and friendly service. I arrived later in the night and the front desk person was incredibly welcoming and helpful. They sought to go above and beyond and treated me with care and kindness.
All staff members were exceptionally (1st shift lady...dont remember her name) nice and were willing to do whatever it took to accommodate us during our stay. Our stay in Philadelphia was motivated by the need for our beloved Dachshund to have surgery at UPENN. Our last day was supposed to be on a Thursday however we received short notice that we had to stay another day and management was able to work with us by making arrangements for to stay in the same room. The cleaning ladies were excellent as well as the lady in the club house serving breakfast. This hotel was well kept in all regards.
Parking at the hotel is too expensive. The room was average at best. No fridge available, which considering the price of the room was surprising. I stayed July 1st, the night before an important exam and the fire alarm went off at 2 am. I had billing issues. I was over charged. I called multiple times a day, for many days in a row to speak with someone. I left emails and voicemails and no one ever got back to be regarding the matter. I feel let down as usually I have had great experiences at other Sheraton hotels.
My stay at the Sheraton was way better than I was expecting. Every single staff member went above and beyond to help me. From helping me to book a room, upgrading my room, to helping with my arrangements while waiting for my plane in the afternoon, everyone when above and beyond. Specifically, Cory, the manager, was absolutely wonderful to work with. While the room was very nice and had really awesome amenities, it was the people that made my stay so awesome. I will definitely be booking Sheraton in the future.
We spent four days at the hotel recently as we toured Philadelphia and enjoyed it immensely. We had a small suite with microwave and fridge, so we didnt have to eat every meal out. The concierge lounge on the 20th floor was terrific. Great breakfast in the morning and snacks at happy hour. And the bed was just so comfortable. We were able to hook our Apple TV up to the flatscreen TV (with the front desks help) and after long days on our feet, we were very happy to relax and chill out at the hotel at night. Wed recommend it highly.
Very clean room and bathroom with extremely comfortable beds which is the most important thing for us. Hotel is old though and rooms need upgrades. Only one nightstand for two beds and outlets only at that nightstand so one unlucky person has no reading lamp or no where to put water or phone. Decent location and parking price is slightly less than other city hotels.
I booked this hotel at the last minute and the staff was superbly helpful, patient, friendly and nice! The room was beautiful, big, lovely decor, sparkling clean, stunning view of the city. But the main thing was how really, really nice all the people were. It was a real luxury to stay here.
Check in was quick and easy. Staff at desk was exceedingly pleasant. Lobby was clean and well decorated.Room was nice, standard size, standard amenities. Did have a fridge, single serve coffee, and a reasonable view. No complaints.Parking was easy, some odd spots here and there but fairly standard.Attached restaurant was quick and tasty. They also offer room service.Atm on site. Snack machine in lobby and beverage on floor. Save yourself the pleasure of two snacks for four dollars, and walk across the street to wawa and get piles of stuff for ten bucks. Also open 24/7.Location is good, near the middle of campus, easy access to most landmarks, museums, etc.Only two suggestions, garage elevator had a horrible chemical scent. And lack of security cameras atleast in garage elevator areas.Overall good stay. Staff made it very pleasant.
We stayed for 1 night to see a concert in the area. The hotel is nice and the staff was friendly. The lobby was nicely decorated and clean. The rooms were like any other hotel room- 2 full sized beds, a tv, a desk and a chair. Clean and cozy. I found the bed to be uncomfortable, I could feel the springs in the mattress when I lay down. The garage they had made parking easy and it goes onto your total bill for the stay. We parked it overnight and used public transportation cause it was all nearby.
From the moment I stepped through the door I was given a warm welcome. My check in process was speedy and the front desk staff went above and beyond to give me directions for my meeting the following morning. I was on the 15th floor with incredible views of Philadelphia. My room was clean and I had plenty of towels in the bathroom. There was coffee provided in the price of my room. Though the $4 bottle of sparkling water was a bit of an eye opener, which is why I didnt use it. I was provided with a room service menu, which I didnt use. Check out was Swift and friendly. It is definitely a hotel I will use again.
Room and parking rates are very expensive. The people working at the hotel and the room itself were nice. However there was the most horrible disgusting foul smell that is in the hotel lobby, assuming it is coming from the Asian restaurant inside. It smells like rotting old fish oil and literally almost made my wife vomit. I was with 6 other people for a trip and we all had to hold our noses when walking through the lobby. This was present for THREE DAYS straight, and was so pungent it could even be smelled from OUTSIDE the hotel as you walk up to it. Also, the elevators seemed broken and took FOREVER to come up/down causing long lines and waiting times. Like I said, the location, service, and room of this hotel are nice, but the rates, smell, and physical quality of the hotel itself were pretty terrible.
This Sheraton was filled with high quality customer assistance representatives. Clearly, they are training their staff. The furnishings could be updated some to attract higher paying customers, and repairs to some of the room doors is needed, but the hotel was purchased from another chain. In time, the total quality experience will exceed expectations. Just remember team that EVERYONE is a team member. Ask the ones who are touching the customer, not their supervisors for suggestions. Then implement.
As a titanium I have the chance to experience pretty much everything Marriott ( and Starwood previously) has to offer — the staff at this property are amazing and really made me feel valued. Awesome club level and executive suite —breakfast is fantastic. This is the perfect hotel for any business near the University and a stone’s throw from whatever else you want to do in Philly.
The rooms at this hotel are nice and spacious. The staff here are friendly and helpful you with anything. I find that the wait time for the elevators is a bit outrageous (up to 5 minutes). Since there is construction going on, I hear banging and drilling in the morning that wake me up. Still, I would book a place in this hotel because of the close proximity to Penn.
The hotel is very convenient due to its location. However, the room that I stayed in was outdated and cannot speak for other rooms. The A/C unit had mind of its own. The bathroom was very outdated and actually had foul smelling upon entering the room. On note, the toilet never flushed fully: Unless you keep holding the flushing handle for good minute, and in the bathroom tub, the top water pressure was like a 0 and the bottom one was like a 10; thus, causing the water to never leave the tub and making you feel more dirty than when you entered. The room was full of dust.Other than that, would recommend it. It was quiet enough to do what I came to do.
We have consistently returned to this hotel whenever a family member needs a medical procedure at HUP. The manager on duty, Ron, always greets us with such kindness, doing his best to make our stay enjoyable and stress-free. He truly goes above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. This hotel is always our first choice when we visit the Philadelphia area.
My family spent 3 days at the Sheraton University City for our daughter’s graduation from Wharton/Penn. The hotel provided us with a beautiful complimentary breakfast every morning. Every afternoon there was some kind of snack and beverages in the lobby. On our final morning on Commencement day, they provided us with cushions to sit on in the stadium. The lady that serviced our room was very nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend the Sheraton for your stay. We told our daughter to book her room now for homecoming weekend!!
Everything was good except for the whistle sound that kept coming from the window in my room (1025). It was as if the window was cracked and when the wind blew it created a noise, almost sounded like a high pitch siren/whistle. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. I just did not like that the noise was never resolved and nobody from the hotel followed up with this issue. I was there a few nights and was woken up several times in the night due to the noise. I was never offered another room and nobody followed up with my report.
Beautiful lobby (love the art!) including a hip bar/lounge. Very convenient parking garage in the building (elevator goes right to lobby). Close to everything in University City. Well appointed rooms with perfect control of room temperature/fan and the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on! Free water in the rooms daily. The staff was lovely: friendly and accommodating!
Went for a sleep study for my son on the 9th floor the heaters need a serious overhaul made noise booms and clicking sounds all night myself got 1hourvof sleep if my autistic son didnt receive a sleep aid Im a firm believer he wouldnt have been able to sleep either rendering the sleep study a complete wash however the Upenn hospital staff was wonderful and friendly . Thank you Lisa my sons nurse /Technician very nice genuine and professional and warm natured
Good hotel with a solid service and big rooms. The amenities and layout and well thought out and will be returning. The lounge is nice with fair food choices in an intimate setting.Only downside is the restaurant/bar on site closes at 930 PM in case you arrive late and want to have a business meeting over a few drinks.
I had a really great experience at this hotel. I checked in with Mr. Wade, who was very friendly and ensured I got the right rate and a room with two double beds. They also included a mini-fridge, for an extra charge, like I asked. Beds were comfortable, no bed bugs or roaches. Bathroom was really nice. Housekeeping always left us with plenty of towels and washcloths and coffee refills. Staff was friendly. I didnt try the hotel restaurant/bar, but the hotel is right across the street from some really good restaurants.
The hotel staff was professional, welcoming, and helpful. We stayed in a very well-priced mini-suite with a King bed and large separate seating area with a pull-out sofa. The design of the room was exceptional and ideal for travel with either families or even an unrelated work associate. Only recommendation is to either replace the sleep-sofa mattress or provide a foam or air mattress topper. The location was terrific-- convenient to UPenn books store, an excellent variety of restaurants, medical center, UPenn sports facilities. Look forward to future stays.
One of the best front desk crews in the industry. Some of the genuinely nicest people you will ever meet. I was also promptly notified of every package delivered to the hotel which was a big help. Solid hotel gym. Restaurant on site. Only gripe would be the elevators. Wont be my last time staying there!
The hotel is ok with pleasant feel. The staff are nice and accommodating. But the place needs some repair like the noisy elevator and the ceiling fan in the bathroom. Stayed for a week and seen theyre busy with guests coming, heavy foot traffick in the lobby. They have to update their facility and keep maintenance regularly to retain their customers.

2022-04-19Staff is super nice! Beds are great. Rooms are older. Tub/shower takes about 30 minutes to drain. I am giving this 2 stars because they allow dogs in the hotel on floors with people without dogs. We heard the dog next door bark non stop until 1:30AM. We had to get up at 6AM. Never going to stay here again...

2022-04-17Dirty bathroom upon arrival, hair in the bathtub, missing soap and shampoo. general cleanliness was poor. Bed was not properly made. Second day they forgot to replace a lot of items (still no soap, no shampoo), took our towels and didn’t replace them, we used the coffee maker and there were no replacement of the coffee pods, we drank the complimentary bottle of water and they did not replace that either. Room and bathroom are still dirty, looks like they came in and made the bed only. Would not recommend this place at all

2022-07-03Offer an apology, say that you understand the customers problem and try to come to a compromise. I found dirty towels, dirty. Don’t try this hotel for safety purposes

2021-09-18We had to stay for a medical appointment for our son, and it was a pleasant surprise. The hotel was very clean and staff very welcoming. The parking was great as self service and designed well to keep cars from hitting each other. Nice Chinese resturant down stairs that serves breakfast, but plently of othe places in the area as well. I highly recommend hotel to others. It is a little aged, but to be expected as last renovation was in 2014. Area safe and public transport friendly.

2021-12-12Absolutely horrible experience. The room was not what we expected. No robes, pool was closed, club lounge was closed. Bathroom smelled like a urinal. Towels were ripped. The people in the room next to us were having a huge party with very loud music. Even with our white noise machine and pillows over our ears we could still hear and feel the vibrations of the music. We left and drove home at 10 oclock at night. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! We will never stay there again.
