Enjoyed a late afternoon walk along the Tacony Creek trail from the entrance by the Juniata Golf Course up to the historic marker for Whitaker Mill. Look for a trail map by the entrance which marks highlights like the Fisher Bridge, built before 1800. Passed by a bunch of graffitied rocks before we discovered gorgeous bird murals on an underpass. There are paved and dirt trails with few benches, no trash cans or restrooms. Right before the Mill marker, look for the overgrown baseball field batting cages. The park is dog-friendly with street parking for visitors.
Its not too bad... The park is amazing but my son was on the juniata Park area and was playing and almost picked up a needle, God almighty that was bad... A lot of people and music and no grills allowed, some ghetto-ness going on idk but I had a decent time the kids had a blast hood spot to picnic or let the kids run around and play
A nice place to unwind ,and relish nature .There are ,hawks, ducks ,Canada geese, ,deer and other animals that can be seen here etc. If you need a sojourn to clear/clamn your mind ,get some fresh air, and take a reprieve from the secular issues of life, than this is the place to be . You can choose to come here alone or with a group of friends. Tacony Creek Park just like Fairmont Park are both equally beautiful year round.Being around so much nature tends to have a cathartic effect on the psyche by turning our negative thoughts in positive ones .
The park is a place where you can have your peace and quiet time. Overall, you can get whatever you expected from that place. However, it gives nervousness when you are there in general because of stories being heard about that place, along with the sight of graffiti, trash, and dead animals (potential predator animals). One has to be careful more in a creek than in an actual park that a lot more people go to.
With a 3.2-mile trail from Juniata to Cheltenham, the Tacony Creek Trail is an hidden gem. Full of wildlife, its benches & picnic tables offer a spot for quiet reflection in the middle of the city. In addition to its paved biking trails, it offers lots of little footpaths to places to sit by the creek.
I love Tacony Creek Park but I am a little biased because Im a local and I grew up in the area it is a nice park in my opinion its could use some updating and some repair work but it is a long Park with a lot of nature and it give you some long trails to walk and run or jog in the even possibly ride a bicycle this park starts at tabor rams field and runs all the way up to Cheltenham Ave near Elkins Park and a golf course whose name I cannot recall I do recommend the park years ago we used to have parties up there it was very fun just have to watch for the mosquitoes but there actually is a lot of nature for a place right inside the city its actually quite beautiful if you take the time to look around thank you and have a beautiful day
While this park offers a quick escape, it’s not quite as serene as you may be searching for. It was highly littered and overall just didn’t look tended to or cared for. Granted I only surveyed one part of the park, it is huge. I would visit again to give it another shot.
We love that nature is so close to the city here. Weve seen deer and foxes and eagles. Beautiful! Weve also seen trash dumped by the side of the river and during a morning walk accidentally come upon a religious ritual being performed by people dressed in all white. The all terrain vehicles that sometimes come through might ruin your nature walk for a moment but once they pass the beauty of the park outshines the noise, in my opinion!
Taconu creeks waters are very dangerous the river has allot of black spots what we call black water where the current drags people under and cant come back up drowning in the process. Many teenagers have died there and many die in 2s because a friend or family member always jump in to save there love ones .So please be very careful swimming in this river and if you do please have a plan and a back up plan and a 3rd one as well about safety and what would you do if this was one of your loved ones be sure to always bring a rope tand tie something heavy on it so you can save your loved one and never go alone but please always y let someone know where your going .
Better as get away from parking areas. Lots of broken glass at access points- scary for taking our dog, she was alright because we kept her on the grass. Much better than it used to be, with nice art projects sprinkled throughout. But water was very murky, gross at the downstream end of the park (end closest to golf range). Better looking at the northern end, where the water was moving. We didnt take the dog down to the beach areas, worried about possible broken glass there too, plus the murky water wed seen at the end of the park.
Northern end of the park is filled with trash. We felt unsafe in this area since it looked unkempt. Glass and garbage made it unsafe for the doggo. I wrote to the park to implore them to put out garbage cans at regular intervals and do some regular maintenance. This park has great potential but seems to have fallen to the wayside.
I wish people knew how beautiful it is and dont go here just to throw their trash or do illegal staff. This is an amazing place, sorrounded by nature, water, great bike routes , it is located in a sensitive place of the city so is not really safe to be by yourself which is sad as it will be a great place for picnics or get together, I hope Philly culture grow someday and this can be that great place that deserves.
The park is clean, but the playground is old and dirty, the kids that play in the area are rough and dont take precaution of the kids around, the little water area would be nice if they would just kind of controlled a little bit more or supervised, the older kids run around and bikes are in the area too and dont see the little ones.everyone play their own music and at the end you really dont know who you are listening too.People from the area seem to have a good time.
Visited the park today with family, Ive passed it cruising on Rising Sun many times until today. There are paved paths you can use to ride either a mountain or road bicycle, however, there are sections on the path where plant over growth has made it narrow; and other parts have patches of loose sand from water run off and creek over flow. The trail is very poorly maintained but if you can look past all the debris, trash and graffiti under bridges and on the path... the view is very nice. For mountain bikers, I did see some break off paths that could allow them to explore other routes although most were blocked by fallen tree trunks which I doubt a skilled rider wouldnt have any trouble hopping over.I wouldnt ride your bike through there at night by yourself because there are NO lights or lamps to light up the path, and the whole area seems to be populated by creeps at night. If the park was more maintained and monitored, I could see this place being used by more fitness groups and people in general.
GrEat for a trail walk.. people have yes me I have gone swimming here before the brigde is cool to jump from.. but if you not into the lake scene. Ya know turtles in the water, fish, etc. Maybe not for you.. but its nice if you live near by maybe for a early morning jog or something
Does anyone buy a fishing liscense anymore?? I must be brought up different by my father.. Loved this place since I was a kid but people have to start respecting mother nature and CLEAN UP after themselves not for me but for their children and grandchildren to enjoy in the future. Anyways enjoy just walking around and throwing a rooster tail in the water to make sure the fish are still alive.. C.P..R. method. Catch. Picture. Release 👍

2021-09-07If you like nature and all that it has to offer this might be the place for you. The park has a paved walkway which makes walking and biking easier. There are many places to sit and think or watch animals. I suggest that you stay out of the water though. It’s really not a swimming spot. It’s better maintained and feels safer than before.

2022-06-04This hidden gem.is a reprieve from the busy city. The park follows the Tacony/Frankford Creek and goes under bridges of busy surrounding roadways. The lush greenery provides an oasis of quiet as it buffers the sounds from the surrounding city. I have seen turtles, great herons, foxes and a variety of wildlife in the park. Its great for walking, running or cycling.

2022-06-17Nature is always a beauty to behold. The park was wonderful and I enjoyed myself. Unfortunately, over time, trash has been left to slowly (if at all) to rot all over this relatively untouched scenery.

2020-09-16Love it, feels a little sketchy but great length from tip to tip 3 miles ish and almost entirely shaded with lots of cool tunnels and bridges. Warning feels very isolated, and many people ride dirt bikes and quads so it can be dangerous peak season
