Positive: The gym is good. The staff is rude. Bums and junkies stand outside the hotel at all hours. Rooms are small Bed are soft and uncomfortable. Negative: The staff is rude. Not one hello as you pass the front desk. Doorman was friendly. Rooms are dark and small. I wouldn¿t stay again
Visited this hotel to attend the Philadelphia Flower Show. The room had 2 queens with 4 pillows each. The tv was a decent size and there were lots of drawers and closet space. The decor matched well with the old, antique feel of the hotel. The staff was very pleasant and the valet prompt. Would definitely visit again.
The room was okay. Just okay, not particularly upscale. But my issue was really with the hotel response to a circumstance outside the hotel. Sunday morning (after a major conference at the convention center) there was a foot race in the city center. The race trapped anyone within about 10 blocks. There was no way to drive out. When I told the front desk the response was basically “Okay, thanks for letting us know.” Not…would you like to go back up to your room? Can we get you a coffee? No urgency in helping me find a solution. It was very disappointing considering the money I spent to stay there. I will not be returning.
We had a 4 night stay. Traveling in from Texas for a volleyball tournament. Front desk staff extremely rude. 1st room the toilet wouldn’t flush (maintenance guy extremely nice). Switched rooms, Blood on sheets! Utterly disgusting. My family and I were treated so disrespectful! They had to call two security guards for “hazardous precautions” and for the front desk manager’s “safety”. Totally made us feel like criminals. All of this in front of my teenage daughter. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
In summary it was an ideal location in center city, and we got a great deal on the hotel room through Expedia and staff was nice but the room though updated had water damage that could be hazardous for those with health conditions.Detailed:My fiancé and I stayed on a Saturday night and it was bustling with a wedding party going on as we approached the desk but staff did their best to be attentive and though distracted by guests trying to purchase from the candy/snack store by the desk - they put a smile on and chugged through the madness that was check in on a busy Saturday. They stamped the sleeve of our room key card which I thought was a cute notary detail. We stayed in a King Bed with a city view (but the view was the parking lot/guess we can watch the cars enter and exit the city?) Accommodations were updated and modern with cute details like modern light fixtures and decor. As for the room amenities we got complimentary coffee and water as per usual in most hotels. The toiletries were from the brand CO bigelow and scent was lavender peppermint which was nice and not overpowering. The was bed was on the stiffer/firm side and the pillows were on the very soft side which is not my particular preference, sheets and bedding were basic not anything luxury.I was expecting a couch in our room as pictured in many of the king rooms but no couch just an arm chair and desk chair so not many seating options if your not a bed sitter. But the one HUGE turn off was when we got back from our evening out we realized there was a sizable wet area in our living area by the A/C unit, we threw a towel on it thinking oh perhaps it was just water that a previous guest spilled and since it was a one night stay there was no point to call down as it was very late. Well here comes the morning and the towel we threw on top of that wet spot was soaked like not little water spill it was as if someone dumped water and my fiancé guessed it’s a leak from the AC/heating unit. Definitely a hazard so when we went to check out we let the front desk know and asked them to get maintenance to go fix that because that really should not be an acceptable room for anyone to stay in.All in all this one night stay was 3 stars for me mostly for nice staff and location. Stars fell because accommodations though on first impression really nice the quality is lacking and thorough cleaning and maintenance is I think so important in a Covid/post Covid world.Savers Note:We opted to park in the lot at 1301 Market St. - aka the city view we received. Valet at the hotel is $45 for a normal car and the lot right next door was $38.
Great Marriott hotel located in the heart of Philadelphia. Right next to beautiful city hall! Amazing service and beautiful accommodations. Great service and rooms are very clean and comfortable. If your in Philadelphia and need a nice room for the night…..look no further.
As an event DJ specializing in weddings, I work in many facilities in the entire Tri-State Area. Last night I had the opportunity to work at the Notary Hotel for the first time. What an amazing, restored historic building! As a fellow vendor, we see the day unfold from behind the scenes and I can say with certainty that Chelesa and her team are on top of every detail! They communicated incredibly well to ensure a smooth experience, the staff was attentive and friendly and the food and ambience were amazing. If youre considering a first class facility for your wedding, look no further. Check out The Notary!
Unfortunately the management has ruined our experience. I paid a valet bill before leaving and told them explicitly when I checked in and left this should be seperate from the hotel bill. They said thats fine. I left and paid the bill while my friend stayed in the hotel. Even though I fully paid my valet bill she has continued to be charged for it. She has had to have multiple discussions with management for something so basic. Its disgusting. They are giving her such a hard time for a valet bill paid weeks agi- continuing to say she owes for it. I would never consider staying here again due to their clear lack of customer service and common sense.
Do not book here. We are a Gold elite member with Marriot and will never book here again, we have stayed here 3 times and that’s it never trust this property. My son gives them one star for treating us poorly in the hotel. I will give them minus 1. Upon our arrival at 9:30pm with two tired kids, the manager comes out to say they cannot honor our rate over the 4th of July booking. This is a booking that was booked months in advance and then changed and reconfirmed with my assistant over the phone and in writing 3 days prior to arrival. We also called the hotel the day before to reconfirm. No one told us anything until we are there to tell us our stay is going to be 30-50% more expensive per night. We ended up staying 1 night just because it was late. Thanks to the senseless manager we moved to the nearby Hyatt for the next 7 nights. We come to Philadelphia 3 or 4 times a year and this hotel has always been mediocre. The hotel is supposedly 4 stars … but the valet parking guys don’t help you take out heavy suitcases , they just watch you do it, and push the cart. the carpet is dirty and the bathrooms don’t have forced ventilation (argh) , the food quality is poor.
Pros: The location of this hotel is perfect right in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. In easy walking distance of plenty of places like the reading terminal and the convention center. The room was nice and cute. Very spacious.Cons: We were located on the 4th floor so we heard all the noises coming from the street. When the people above used the shower you could hear the water running. It sounded like it was leaking in the ceiling. The breakfast was ok however pricey for small portions. Parking is definitely pricey as well. We paid $70 something bucks for overnight parking.
The hotel itself is very centrally located in the city and has a well appointed and stylish lobby. The rooms are also well-decorated but ergonomics can be improved. For instance one has to find and set up the coffee machine. Its stowed away in a cupboard with doors that mimic a set of drawers. Not the most intuitive.
1st time staying here and will now be a favorite every time I visit Philadelphia! The hotel is beautifully updated, location is amazing right across from City Hall and the staff was equally wonderful. A special thanks to Maniela (hoping I spelled that right) who was welcoming, helpful and selected a room for us that far surpassed our expectations. I would highly recommend this hotel for a beautiful, upscale, relaxing stay!
Its conveniently located in downtown Philly, and one can get to most places in downtown walking. But several things in the room can be made better. There is no proper table to sit and work, at least the room I got. Had to place the coffee machine on the side table by the bed, no conveniently located power outlets otherwise. The wifi connected but there was no internet the first night, or early morning. We stayed five nights and requested housekeeping every other night (you have to tell that you want housekeeping when checking in). It was not done on the second day. I had to go down to the lobby to request one on the fourth day. Plus the rooms stayed cold even after the room thermostat said 80. This was a business trip, so I didnt have to pay the close $300 nightly room charges, but its not the best value for money. Certainly Ill not opt for it during personal travel. Ill reiterate that the location is great, so if youre not in your room most of the time, it will be ok.
This was a conveniently located hotel. I got a hotwire hot rate deal. The reason I give it four stars is because the rooms bathrooms have sliding doors which allows zero bathroom privacy. If you try to keep privacy in your restroom visits, you will need to go down to the first floor. I hate how all modern hotels do this now.
It is a beautiful location and building. However, it is managed poorly. It is dirty and the front desk staff are not very professional. The guy checking me in thanked me for being the highest level with Marriott but I do not believe that he knew what that was. I was not impressed!!
Terrible housekeeping made my stay bad. Room was skipped by housekeeping 2 days. I ran out of towels and trash cans were full. A call to the front desk did nothing to help. I finally had to speak to the manager. Also in the public areas around the elevators on my floor, the floors and the furniture were dirty.Also:1. The elevators are slow.2. The curtains do not close all the way and light was shining in my face all night3. One tiny shelf in the shower barely big enough to place a bar of soap.4. No microwave5. No pen and paper6. TV was cumbersome use as the remote had very slow response time when trying to change the channel or view the guide
Terrible customer service. I had to cancel a reservation and thought I had successfully done so within the 72 hrs they require (which is ridiculous). Then, morning of the canceled stay I get a reminder about my check in. I call and after getting transferred and hung up on several times I finally reach someone and am informed the reservation was not cancelled. They charged me the full fee with no apologies or regrets.I travel for a living and know there are numerous comparable options in the area. If anyone is looking for a hotel I strongly suggest they avoid this one.
I have stayed a this hotel several times and I love staying here. Check in was smooth and easy. Friendly staff and great customer service. Got upgraded at check-in as I was only one night away from Gold status. Had a great view of City Hall and all the Holiday festivities.
Overall, a pretty great hotel. Super convenient to all types of transportation (bus, subway, trolley, and regional rail) meant I could get anywhere quickly. Being so close to City Hall, I always felt secure. Theres enough chain and local restaurant choices within walking distance to keep me happy. The rooms were nice quality, clean, and spacious. Definitely one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have slept on.Two minor complaints that keep me from giving five stars. First, the elevators are super slow. Be prepared to wait 5-10 minutes at peak times. Second, my mini-fridge was broken, and even after notifying the front desk it still wasnt fixed the next day when I checked out.
Positive: Excellent location, right next to the City Hall. Beautiful historical building and well-appointed, modern rooms. Staff was friendly. Negative: Upkeep was not quite there. Shower curtain had yellow grim at the bottom, several burned light bulbs in the room, and loose vent register. I was expecting a nicer standard in a hotel like this.
Alice at the desk is such a lovely person! She escorted us personally to our suite. The hotel was just renovated and it is really beautiful. The views are fantastic and there is so much within easy walking distance. Check out Reading Terminal Market for awesome food options. Its only 2 blocks from the hotel.
I stayed here for a wedding that I was attending and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was beautiful and I felt safe staying in a hotel alone. The precautions that are in place to ensure that guests are safe and comfortable are wonderful. The valets were so nice and made sure that my car stayed out front since I was in and out preparing for the wedding. The front desk staff kept my bags the next morning after I checked out so I could get breakfast at Reading Terminal. Everyone was so nice and accommodating, I would definitely recommend staying here.
Beware of this hotel. I have never taken the time to write a negative review before but hopefully this will help future customers avoid such a bad experience. During our 2 night stay, after the housekeeper cleaned our room we had missing items. We addressed this with the front desk staff who said that they would notify those in charge. After speaking with the manager, he told me that the housekeeper said that the room was completely empty and there is nothing they will do for us regarding our missing items. This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had and I will never book a room here again simply because I cant trust that my belongings will be safe and the customer service is really the worst I have ever experienced. They lack accountability. Hope this saves someone the headache we went through.
The Notary is a converted government building that used to hold offices and a bank across the street from City Hall. It is owned by the Autograph Collection (under Marriott) which restores historical buildings back to their original luster for the use of hotels. Its absolutely gorgeous. The system erased my original review, so Im having to rewrite one quickly. It was quiet, the beds are amazing, we often thought we were the only ones on our floor (floor 4). The gym is really quite good (note: no pool however). Its like having a flat across from City Hall and looking up at William Penn every morning (rooms with city view only). The limited cafe still had excellent food...get the breakfast flatbed and pancakes with berries....ask for Elizabeth in housekeeping, shes got a wonderful spirit and for the 13 days she made our room look like we had just arrived...Aaron at the front desk answered all my questions the night before I arrived and was kind and really helped us the entire time...My husband was able to work remotely from the lobby at the communal tables (they have spacious seating and comfy couches, perfect for meeting people who come visit at the hotel). Theres a brand new Trader Joes around the corner. Reading Terminal is one street behind. Uber and Taxis everywhere and 10 minute walk to Independence Hall old city area. You cant go wrong. I want to go back. Id go every weekend just for the good beds.
The hotel was ok but the bathroom ceiling paint was peeling and falling into the room. When we got to the hotel the valet told us both parking areas (public parking) are full. We had to drive around to find a parking lot that wasnt full and carry all of our luggage. When we called to ask them where can we park they just hang up. That happened 2 times. Totally unacceptable.
Notary staff was wonderful. Hotel beautifuland clean. View from our room on the 8th floor awesome. Close to everything downtown to see. Provide toIs printed information for places to visit. Decor was nice. Visited for tourism reasons with family, NO extras for the costs such as complimentary water or coffee maker or refrigerator after a long day walking. Basically a beautiful hotel room to sleep not just relax. There is a bar and a place to get a bite to eat but we didn’t go in.
I enjoyed my stay. First hotel stay since before March 2020. The room was ready and clean. Loved the shower in my room. The gym is nice but doesn’t require mask wearing and I found that disturbing for such a confined space. There was no room service because the restaurant had just opened. I was disappointed because there was not a lot of mask wearing in the hotel and I would have preferred to dine in my room. Great location. Great price.
We were on our honeymoon and the hotel associate was kind enough to upgrade our room. She recommended plenty of nearby dinner options for us as well. She was pleasant and helpful. We also had drinks at the hotel bar, it was easily the best hotel bar/restaurant menu we had come across during our week of travel but the bartender was not friendly at all. The room, 1109, was spacious! The bed was very comfortable, and the shower got extra hot like I like it! The view of downtown Philadelphia was no short of amazing.
Room: hair dryer did not work and the shower handset did not work either. The bed was comfortable though.Expected a bit more from the design since it is a lovely historic building. The furniture felt very standard and generic (just a slightly nicer version of a standard Marriott). The art was also standard hotel fare (very matchy-matchy with no narrative)- they missed a big opportunity to really tell a story about the hotel. The color palette felt very heavy.Gym: This was the best aspect of the hotel. The double height space is unexpected. It was very clean and had up-to-date equipment.
We booked this hotel for a wedding block for my sons wedding. Their attention to detail was great and every detail was followed through. I had welcome bags for all the guests and they made sure they were given at check-in and also allowed some early check-in so people could get dressed and take the shuttle we were providing to the venue. We worked with Chelsea ODonnell who did a fantastic job and provided a very high level of customer service which lacks in most places these days I would highly recommend this property for an event or any stay in Philly, the location is perfect to navigate around the city and the history of the property is also incredible which they explain to every guest on check-in.
I travel about 200+ nights a year and this was one of my few trips with my family joining - as an ambassador with Marriott everything is normally seamless however the individual checking in made the whole process a nightmare and really left a poor taste in my mouth - for the money go across the street to the Ritz its worth it just for the higher level of service
We loved our stay at this location. The front desk staff had so much information to offer, including the historical significance of the building. The location was prime and the view from our room was stunning! The restaurant served amazing breakfast and the bartender made great cocktails. We would stay here again when in Philly.
Our family was in town for a memorial for my Mother who died from Covid in December 2020 at the age of 99. She had a great life and we were here to celebrate it. We had 5 rooms. I reserved 3 and was able to upgrade them all. The staff on the front desk was wonderful. The Notary was a terrific place to stay and convenient for our family gathering over the 3 days. I highly recommend it.
The staff was friendly and the hotel was nicely updated/designed, however, this was definitely not the cleanest hotel. Our room, as well as common areas, were noticeably dirty, specifically the floors. Also, if you are looking for La Colombe coffee, the kiosk in the lobby does not do it justice. Walk the couple of blocks to the real store front on the other side of city hall. While it is in a good location, there are lots of other hotel options in Center City so I would probably give a different Marriott a try next time.
Honestly, we found the Notary to have the most friendly and accommodating staff we have come in contact with in a long time. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, including our grandchildren. They certainly put customer service first and foremost. The rooms were clean and a good size. The customer service excellence also extended to the restaurant staff. What a pleasant stay we had at the Notary!
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on business. Check-in was quick, easy and friendly. My room had a great view and was very functional for work and well appointed. The location is great and I was able to walk everywhere. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it for business or pleasure.
Where to begin? When I arrived I was accosted about wearing a mask, yet there was no sign indicating I needed to do. The elevator bays were so slow I waited > 10 minutes for an elevator multiple times in a two night stay. The fire alarm went off for 15+ minutes plus screaming in my ear at 9:30am on a Sunday morning. You shut the lobby bar down despite having 100+ happy paying customers who wanted to continue celebrating. And when you shut the lobby bar down you TURNED UP THE LIGHTS to shoo people away. Who does that? What kind of establishment are you running? Treating adults like children and using bright lights to scare them away? Just keep the bar open when its crowded with paying customers. Also the bartenders were rude. My room had like 7 different light switches that I had to walk around and press individually each time I wanted to turn the lights on. At least the bed was comfortable...
Nice staff. Lovely rooms. City-view was great. Fantastic central location for walking everywhere. Loved how close to Reading Terminal Market this was. Short walk to Independence Park. Definitely worth choosing this Autograph Collection hotel over a more common Marriott hotel.
I only stayed one night, but it proved to be enough. The staff was rather rude and curt. The property still feels like a Courtyard, many of the public spaces were dirty , unkempt, and showing visible wear and tear. The room renovations were just okay and the comfort levels were only average or below. It took more than three calls to get the front desk to deliver an iron that was missing from the room on check in. It took well over 1 hour to receive it. There are too many I other fine choices in Philadelphia to bother staying here.
I traveled to Philadelphia to attend a Convention 8/12 - 8/19. My stay at the Notary Hotel was outstanding! I was really impressed with the hotels historic look and feel. The Reception staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and very professional. Restaurant staff was very accommodating, and the food very good. I sincerely thank the Restaurant staff for allowing me to order breakfast after one particular day I lost track of time following a morning workout in the hotel gym. I arrived a few minutes after breakfast hours ended. The room was very clean and presentable. The view from the 15th floor was awesome! The bed very comfortable. What impressed me most about my stay were the greetings received by television. Upon arrival, I was welcomed to the Notary Hotel. I received greetings each morning, afternoon, and evening of my stay. My final evening at the hotel, I was greeted with, Bon Voyage, Theodus. Thank you for staying. Those greetings personalized my stay and are truly appreciated.Sincerely, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the Notary Hotel to anyone traveling to Philadelphia.
The Notary was our perfect get away. The front desk staff provided great recommendations for restaurants, maps to help us navigate Philly and answered our question each Morning. He made our trip even better.. Im sorry I did not get his name to mention in this review. The one issue was that breakfast was not available in the hotel 2 days a week and we were not aware of this before the trip.
While attending a wedding in the hotel, we were impressed by the decor, the staff and location. From the moment we pulled into the hotel - we had exceptional service. Everyone was kind and helpful! The lobby was warm, inviting, and elegant. I felt safe and secure. I look forward to visiting the Notary again!
We booked a corner suite and were generally disappointed. Room was dark and layout could be much better - wasted space in entry and then very cramped bathroom sink and vanity area. The woman at the front desk said we would have a kitchenette but it was only a coffee maker and mini fridge. Food service was closed during our stay which would have been helpful to know in advance, and we couldn’t find anywhere for breakfast in the immediate neighborhood. Homeless right outside hotel including people dropping their pants. Valet service was pretty good.
Overall the staff at the front desk, as well as the gentleman in the front were super nice, sweet, helpful, and professional. Last but not least the rooms itself were super comfy & clean. It had a very nice touch & what it resembles “The Notary”. I will for sure select this as an option when I stay in PHL, and not to mention it’s close by everything. Food, shopping or simply just to walk around the city.
Place was clean enough, but could have been better. I needed a foam pillow, but the front desk never brought one up despite me asking twice. Once in person and then once on the phone. Im allergic to feathers, so I ended up using extra towels for a pillow. Thankfully my stay was only one night. I dont think Ill stay here again unless I absolutely have to.
Service was terrible, ice machine was broken. When i informed The front desk the appeared as if the knew already and told me a ice machine is one every floor. I asking For small amenities and it never arrived. Spend your money else where. I’ve stay at numerous Marriotts . This was the worst. I purchased a corner suit and it was beautiful, my enjoyment of the stay ended there !
The hotel itself is beautiful, in a good location and the rooms are comfortable and updated. There is a great coffee bar in the hotel and a Spanish Tapas Restaurant. Room service is not active and getting food delivered wasnt easy for some reason. So plan ahead and get food early.
We were at the hotel for a weekend wedding. We asked to have rooms close to my 87 year old mother in law, they put us in adjoining rooms which was very accommodating. Our safe was locked (from the previous guests), and someone came up to unlock it.Also my mother in law locked herself out of her room just as we were leaving for the wedding. someone came up immediately to open her door. Everyone was very nice. Even the valet guys.
The room was nice, the furnishings and décor average to poor. My primary complaint was the poor signage - construction on the front of the hotel and excessive crowds of people made it impossible to find the hotel even after walking by it twice. There was no doorman to greet people so everyone was trying to find their own cab or park their own car or pick up guests so the entrance and signage was burred behind construction and crowds. lack of a doorman made arrival and departure very difficult.
I had a very rude experience upon check-in, with my daughter arriving first only to be told she could not check in as her name was not on the reservation, even though wed updated the reservation that morning and she had a printed receipt to prove it. She had to call me and it took almost an hour to get it fixed with the front desk. By the time I arrived that evening, they still didnt have our res right! I missed the opportunity to eat dinner that evening so I asked if the restaurant was open. The front desk told me no, and that there was no room service available. She neglected to tell me that there is an alcove where you can buy snacks and drinks—I only noticed it on my way upstairs. Note that in the morning I had a very good breakfast at the hotel, and that our server was quite nice. The valet was friendly, but the interactions in the lobby with the front desk were abysmal. This was not the friendly and courteous Marriott staff I recall from my days of traveling as a consultant. My daughter is attending UPenn, so I will likely book a different hotel next time I visit, which is too bad.
Beautifully renovated hotel; friendly staff. Nice mix of historic with modern amenities. Comfortable beds, and really nice shower. Central location to walk to many tourist sites, though prefer other locations in the city for old city feel. Was an easy walk to museums along the parkway, and right next to city hall.
Positive: Everything was really nice. The room had a stylish decor and was clean. The front desk personnel were helpful and recommended a few places to get Philly Cheesesteaks. We were not disappointed in the recommendations! Negative: Parking was a pain. Hotel had valet but was twice as much as public garage down street that we utilized. Glad we did because the view from our room showed the alley where valet cars were parked. In the alley people were hanging out, sitting on the cars.
Hello. I stayed in the King Guest Room this past weekend. It was spacious and clean, nice and quiet. The bed was soft but it feels like you’re melting in it, like butter. The bathroom was spacious, but it needs a tub to make it perfect. I didnt eat at the on site restaurant because it wasnt many food choices but there are so many restaurants surrounding the hotel. I would stay again.
I love Marriott. I only book with Marriott. My experience here was okay. I just didn’t feel my room had the perfect final touches, that Marriott provides. The bathroom didn’t seem like it was clean. I felt uncomfortable after seeing hair on the toilet seat and I just walked in to look around. Then hair in the tub. The AC unit kept making loud noises all night. It was louder than the TV. The digital alarm clock was unplugged, so I figured maybe the room hasn’t been utilized in a while, probably hasn’t been inspected for cleaning, they probably thought it was already done. Then they just put me in there lol but for the price for the night, and based off my experience, I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again. But I must say, the staff is extremely nice and friendly!!! They tried their best to accommodate me.
I stayed at the Notary Hotel for my wedding and used the room to get ready the morning of. I could not have been happier with the location, the room size and cleanliness and the attentiveness of the staff! Everyone was so accommodating with my vendors coming and going and even helping me and my bridesmaids with getting everything up to our room upon check-in. Definitely staying here again on my next trip to Philly!!
Lovely! I checked in after a long, long drive and a busy couple of days. The check-in was efficient and friendly. The room was very well appointed and a great combination of combining the traditional with modern touches and standards. Super comfy bed. Spotlessly clean.I will be coming to Philadelphia often over the next few years and I will absolutely stay again.
The hotel is very nice and building is located at a prime location with a lot of restaurants, reading terminal market, and city hall just a few steps away. The front desk staff is also very welcoming and helpful. The reasons why we did not have a good time are: 1) we got a room with a very small window with no city view. 2) we felt the room didnt have enough lights so it felt very dark. 3) bathroom door was off the railing so it wouldnt lock (this was very uncomfortable) 4) we were on the 15th floor, and the table right outside the elevator had a lot of dust which we could see from far (this made us think that if corridor is not clean, the room might be dirty as well).
A beautiful, boutique style hotel in the heart of city center. We had a view of city hall which was magnificent. The staff is friendly, helpful and looking to please their clients. The room was decorated with antique, classic furniture and had a spacious and clean feel to it. If I had to nitpick, the bathroom had rust in several places and could have used a little TLC but still nicely designed and functioning. I lived the decor of the lobby! They have valet parking (only) and its quite pricey but within range of surrounding hotels and they allow to leave the car for the day, if needed, even after checkout. We would definitely want to come back here.
Rooms and hotel were very clean and comfortable. Staff when checking in was less than accommodating and appeared that they had no interest in helping. However, one of the bell hops (I wish I remembered his name) was extremely kind. I was heading out for a run in the morning and he made sure I knew all the places to go. The perfume smell in the lobby is overbearing and caused a headache each time I walked through.
Positive: Location. You cannot eat it. Nice and clean Negative: The walls are very thin we could hear all of our neighbors.Just simple opening & closing doors. Walking in the hall and the tv. We were on the 9th floor and could hear all of the cars down on the street all night. Even at 3am. Room was humid even with ac
The hotel was wonderful, great location friendly service, clean, good bar/food options, etc. I would have provided an excellent review if not for the poorly run valet service. There was never any room to pull your car in off the street to clear the road from other motorists. No sense of urgency from the staff as cars and people stack up waiting to check their cars in/out.Waited almost 30-minutes for our car the first morning, and another 15-minutes when returning to pull car in and 25-minutes day two.Other then that inconvenience the stay was great.
Beautiful hotel centrally located to everything in Philly. Rooms were clean, spacious with nice bathrooms/showers, a safe, hidden fridge and desk work station to plan activities.Valet parking was convenient to drop off. Allow about 30 min before leaving to call for your car to be retrieved. Cost of valet is comparable to self park overnight in a local garage.Definitely enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the city, especially if you like to walk, since the hotel is about half a mile from the market, a mile from the Liberty Bell and a mile from Rocky statue.
My room was fine other than the noisy air conditioner making a squealing noise and some ones black socks and a french-fry found in my room next to the bed, also there was no breakfast offered on the first morning, and no points offered to our Gold, Palatium, and Ambassador elites for the lack off breakfast. I like the hotel enough that we have had 2 meetings there, however they should have room checks after housekeeping has finished. This was not Marriott standards!
The room was extremely cleaned and spacious for two adults. We payed about $50 more to have the city view and it was worth it! If youre someone who is concerned about noise, these walls are allegedly thin, I was with another adult and we came back from breakfast apparently talking too loud in our room at 9 am and security came to our door because our neighbor complained! I advised the manager of same and explained how unacceptable that complaint was. Other than some grumpy neighbors the hotel is beautiful and close to a lot of food places. Their breakfast is not that great, I would get breakfast someplace else. The pastries in particular. Theres so much around, definitely eat elsewhere.
Everything was great. Allowed early check in, the room was very clean and exactly what we asked for. The location is great. Only complaint is the valet service took an hour and 10 mins to retrieve our car. Caused us to miss brunch and really put a damper on the end of our trip. The garage was supposedly a block away and the charge $50 a night to valet the car.
Stayed at this hotel in April 2021. The hotel has a good location right next to the city hall, a lot of good restaurants, and reading terminal market, but overall, the hotel room was just fine. We were staying on the 15th floor and could see dust on the tables in the hotel corridor. The bed was comfortable but our room had a very small window with no view, which made the room look a little dark with no bright light. Additionally, bathroom’s door wouldn’t lock (although we didn’t need the lock but still, it should work).
Classy hotel that distinguishes itself as an autograph collection property within Marriott. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. It was also a nice touch that they recognized my birthday with a small box of chocolate. Location is perfect as it is close to city hall and many sites. One note, this is a city hotel and there are normal city noises. But for some reason there is middle of the night drag racing. We heard it clearly from our 12th floor room. Be aware if you are a light sleeper.
I made a reservation in which i could not attend because i was in a very serious accident on the way to Philadelphia from NY. normally, i would never cancel a reservation over anything small, so i as soon as possible notified the hotel of my car crash and that i could not complete the rest of the trip because i was hospitalized. not only did i receive no response from the hotel after reaching out, they charged my card the entire fee for the stay, as if i canceled because i wanted to. not only will i never be staying at one of your hotels, i will be looking into options with my bank for getting my money back considering i have now emailed and called twice with no response. it is clear this hotel brand does not care whatsoever about its customers and emergency situations that may occur. i would not advise staying at this hotel considering they are focused purely on revenue and nothing else. i feel bad for you guys that you really need $254 that bad. must be because you guys are busy screwing so many people over. hope this reaches the audience it deserves. oh, and by the way i only am recovering from my accident with head trauma, a broken leg, multiple bruises and cuts, etc. thanks for your consideration!
Great decor, friendly staff, and comfortable room. Everything was very clean and the shower was excellent. Good location right at city hall. We parked at the lot next door for $38, but if you plan to in/out then just use the hotel valet. The city view upgrade is worth getting.
I have been staying at this hotel on Thursday nights as it’s closer to the airport for my business travels. Check in is always a breeze. The staff is warm, friendly and efficient. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and remember you when you return for your next stay. The hotel is always clean and comfortable. What more could you ask for. I wish this was how every hotel operated. It would make being on the road every week feel a little more like home.
This is a beautiful, old hotel in the heart of Philadelphia. Great location. We’ve stayed at autograph hotels by Marriott before and like the style of this brand. It has an old but modern feel. We booked a corner room and we have a great view of city hall. And the first night we enjoyed drinks at the bar with a delicious breakfast and great service on a limited menu at the restaurant. One pretty significant disappointment is the hotel seems to be behind the curve relating to COVID. It’s June 23rd, the city and the rest of the country is open and the restaurant and bar are only open a couple of days of the week. Three weeks ago we stayed at an Autograph hotel in downtown Cincinnati and their bar and restaurant were open with a full menu.It would have been nice to have a box breakfast option etc. Maybe it’s a staffing issue but that was a disappointment for a hotel of this quality and price point.Right now, because if the limited service, I’d give it three stars.
My husband and I missed our flight to Penn and had an event to attend to so I knew we were going to check in really late. I called the hotel to advise of the situation and the clerk made a note and assured us everything was ok. That toke a load off. Finally got to Penn, attended the event got to the hotel around 2am. The doors were locked which is good for security. We knocked on the door and was let in. Check in was fast and easy. The hotel is beautiful. Love the books with the awesome paintings on them. Room was nice and cozy. Hotel is in the heart of downtown. Definitely would recommend
The staff at the Notary is amazing. I requested an early check in and was able to settle in my room by 11am. We felt safe with the area and security at the hotel. Its a 2 minute walk from the Reading Terminal and directly across the street from the gorgeous City Hall. Honestly shocked at how affordable the hotel is because surrounding hotels charge an arm and a leg. Only downside to the hotel was the quality of the coffee in the Cafe. Other than that, an amazing stay.
Was fortunate to spend a family wedding weekend at The Notary. I cannot say enough kind things about the staff. Extremely helpful and responsive to a small problem; drapes were off track. The location was great, the Reading Terminal Market (not to be missed) was just around the corner, Love Park and Philadelphia Museum (Rocky statue) right down the road. Would love to go back.
The hotel accommodated my changing travel schedule, allowing me to check-in very early (no charge) and check-out very late (minimal charge worth every penny). No sitting at the airport for 5 hours. The room was spotless, modern, and thoughtfully decorated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A+++
Everything from the service to the unique decor is always great. It has an industrial, creative and artist feel from the moment you walk it, making it a very cozy hotel with romantic undertones. The diverse rooms are kept pristine clean. I have never had an issue at this hotel. I’m upset I didn’t have to the best pictures for this review, however, they will come because I will be staying again in the future.Update: I did end up finding one picture of one of my previous stays!
The stay was very good but it’s ideal for business stay, not ideal for family or personal.I am a Marriott Bonvoy member and received the highest floor but did not get a tub for great relaxation. I also requested for one, but was told nothing available for me.Restaurants/breakfast was not available in the hotel at all.The bedding was super comfortable. The usual parking was overpriced in the area hotels. Marriot Bonvoy should give complimentary parking for there guest at the least.Keyless entry was good option as well.
While we loved the location, and had no significant issues during our stay, the room and hotel felt a little rundown and poorly maintained. The elevators had constant problems while we were there. The ceiling in the bathroom was literally hanging in pieces over the shower. The little envelope for leaving a tip for housekeeping said “happy thanksgiving” on it.
The hotel and my room on the 8th floor was nicely decorated. If you are a light sleeper, the DONT STAY here. The walls are extremely thin, you can hear everything happening outside on the street as well as your neighbors. It was so bad, I could hear every time people opened their doors, flushed the toilet and even cough and sneezed. The some of the amenities dont work. In my case, the room had a keurig coffee maker that didnt work, which I am surprised being that Keurigs have a pretty high failure rate if used over an extended time. So when I called the front desk in the morning to report the coffee maker didnt work, I was informed that in the lobby there was a place that sold coffee.
Located across the street from city hall, this hotel is walking distance to everything you could possibly want to do. Check in was smooth and valet was convenient. The elevators could use some work, we waited 20 minutes for an elevator at one point, but it was really busy that day due to a big college graduation. Will definitely try and stay here for any future trips to Philly.
I stayed two night no one cleaned the room and one night people ran the hallways and banged doors all night. The hotel brushed off both complaints. The lack of cleaning the room making the bed and clean towels apparently you have to ask at checkin. This would have been nice if they asked us at check in.
We arrived Friday evening, the check in process with Manuela was seamless, the hotel is beautiful and the room was very very nice. My problem was the following day. After being out in the hot sun all day on Saturday at the Flower Show, we returned to our room around 5:30 to find the bed hadnt been made, the room wasnt cleaned, towels werent exchanged and the yeah wasnt emptied. I called the desk and was informed that due to Covid, they werent providing service to the rooms unless you have them 24 hours notice, which we were never told this at check in. The desk also said that if we wanted our trash emptied, we could put it in the hallway and they would pick it up and if we wanted clean towels they would leave them in the hallway. The following morning on Sunday there was no back up ton of toilet paper in our bathroom, I had to swipe one from a housekeeping cart that was in the hallway on our floor. At check in on Friday, we were told the restaurant would be open on Saturday, Sunday morning we called the desk to find out if it was open for breakfast and we were told they were not, when we went down to leave to go have breakfast elsewhere, the restaurant was open.If these housekeeping rules were put in place for Covid that is understandable, but your prices per night, do not reflect Covid times. This was a very pricey hotel to stay in but the service does warrant the price.
WONDERFUFL property! We stayed in a King Suite, everything was perfect. Awesome bed, really well laid out rooms, beautiful property, super nice staff, awesome location (next to City Hall), and overnight valet was very convenient. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!
The location is great but the room appeared as though it was just wiped down and needed a deep clean. The baseboards/along the shower in the bathroom were full of dust/dirt and looked as though it hadnt truly been cleaned in quite some time. While the location was great, I would choose another Marriott property in the future.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful! From the service at the front desk to the end of our stay was amazing. The woman at the front desk was very polite and gave us the history of the hotel, which was fun to learn. The room we stayed in was clean (taking covid precautions seriously), had great decor, and you could see the Ben Franklin Bridge. Everything was absolutely stunning. I would definitely stay here again. The only downfall was that it took a *long* time to find a working ice machine. We luckily decided to try out the 7th floor and thankfully the ice machine was working!PS: You will need your key each time you use the elevator.
Room was dirty upon entry and a large ozone machine was left in the entryway. Sheets and comforter were also very wrinkled, leaving us to wonder if they had been replaced from the previous night. Elevators were also extremely slow, as others have mentioned - looked like only 2 of the 3 were working. Ice machines were not operational on any of the floors. Used SpotHero instead of Valet because of previous reviews on wait time. Check in and check out were easy, our room had a great view and the location is convenient. Overall, probably would not stay here again.
The decor and atmosphere at the The Notary is delightful! A classic place with a cool story as well (make sure you ask the concierge about the building!). I especially liked the painting on a stack of books in the lobby. Location is perfect for downtown, great food and shopping within walking distance. I was here for meetings and able to walk to those as well. Plus theres a La Columbe not far away ☕You cant wrong with booking The Notary!
Upon arrival, there were crumbs on the floor and in the pull out bed. The bed stands had cup stains showing it was not even wiped down. The pillows in and linen in our room had and strong odor of sweat and we had to request new linens and extra pillows. There was an extremely rude valet staff member which was addresses, but left a very distasteful impression as it was in front of our children as well. Majority of the staff were friendly, but my wife and I doubt we will patron this establishment again. Note: the elevators were extremely slow and with the social distancing 2 persons/1 family restrictions, made it a bit more challenging getting in and out of the hotel from our room.
Great location, right in city center. A block from Reading Market Terminal and multiple restaurants. Hotel decor was very unique. There was a library but was closed, assuming due to Covid-19. The corner suite was very roomy and quiet. Great shower with awesome water pressure. Cleanliness was average. Most services were not available during stay. Will return again if ever in the city.
Excellent location for exploring the city. 10 minutes from the Independence Visitors Center & the Philadelphia Museum Of Art! Staff and Valet are excellent. Our only complaints are the cleanliness of the room (old soda bottles, bottle caps and tissues under the couch/sofa bed) and the sofa bed is extremely uncomfortable.
Outstanding, well-maintained hotel in a great Central Philly location, in one of those old Philly buildings that reeks with history and ambience. This contrasts the modern, well-appointed and very comfortable rooms. It earns the 5th star on service; every employee I encountered was friendly and eager to help, and some went above and beyond the call of duty. Hope to stay here again.
Marriott has applies lipstick on a pig in an attempt to generate a few more years of revenue from a tired former Courtyard. By gluing together stacks of old hard-cover books and displaying antique typewriters, the owners of the Notary hope guests overlook the fact that the infrastructure is decrepit, the windows fail to block street noise, the elevators take forever...I arrived at noon and told the front desk clerk I would be happy to leave my bag with the bell desk if a room was not yet available. She checked my status, thanked me for being a Bonvoy Titanium member and asked if I minded two full beds rather than the king that had been reserved. Bed type doesnt matter so she touted a great view and sent me to a double that overlooked the public square outside the former City Hall Annex.I dropped my bag in the room and proceeded to my afternoon itinerary. Upon return in the evening, I was too tired to mess around with changing rooms even though this was a noisy room. I didnt sleep a wink and had to shove wads of toilet paper into my ears. The last time I stayed at a Marriott property in downtown Philly, it was a Fairfield that was being used as a homeless shelter. No matter what level of seniority in the Marriott Bonvoy program, downtown Philly is a no-go zone. My recent stay at the Logan (Hilton) was excellent but the property was sold out. Loews in Philly is also a good choice, and I regret not having stayed there instead of Notary.
This hotel... is depressing.I wanted to love it, but I don’t.My husband and I are here celebrating our mini-honeymoon and we really just wanted to be able to relax, but since we arrived earlier today it has been nothing but stressful. We paid an extra $50 to have an early check-in and unfortunately our toilet wasn’t working, so we were moved to a different room where we found a HUGE hairball underneath a pillow when we were trying to get comfortable.. literally laid down and felt the giant hairball. We were moved to a final third room, and it’s so dusty... literally SO DUSTY- every surface is dusty. There are also rings from cups on all the tables, it’s all just really weird. For the price, I feel like the standards should be set a little higher?I’m just sad. You’d think during a pandemic that they would be making an effort to keep things a little cleaner. It’s not horrible, I’ve just definitely stayed at nicer hotels in Center City for cheaper and without having so many issues.
Lovely place and wonderful staff! After traveling a long ways in our car, it was a joy to settle in at the Notary. Peaceful place! Would have loved the restaurant to be fully open and had a chance to experience that. What was available was nicely done and people so friendly!!
Wonderful hotel very clean. The only compliant I have is the heating and cooling to the hotel felt a bit damp. The room was wonderfully appointed and the staff was overall friendly besides the little hick up I had upon checking in. Staff welcomed me and gave me a lil history lesson on the hotel and why they choose to call it the notary hotel and how it was city annex. I wish the bar and restaurants where open.
This is the third time I have stayed at the Notary. It is convenient to Temple University where our son attends college. Also very convenient to restaurants and stores. The valet can be a hassle, but this time we had no issues and they were very quick to retrieve our car. It will be nice when they are able to reopen their food area, which has been closed due to Covid.
Hotel is beautiful and staff are friendly. I deduct one star because of valet-- I requested my car 45 minutes in advance (which is the recommended time). But when I went to get my car, the valet said they were still getting it. No problem-- I waited 10 minutes, the car still wasnt there, so I asked again. Valet said they were still getting it. I waited 10 more minutes, asked again (!), and it turned out they had parked it down some side street at some point and had forgotten they had done so. Disappointing, especially because valet service is $60 and the surrounding area is not the safest, so not a great place to just leave a car unattended for 20 minutes (or more).
We loved our stay at the Notary. It is the perfect location to experience Philadelphia. The rooms are updated and very clean. The hotel gives a classic feel (not cookie cutter). You can walk to the historic district, Reading Terminal, University City, Rittenhouse Square. We just dropped the car at the door and walked everywhere! Ionly wish we had stayed another day!
The Notary is a gorgeous hotel in a historic building. It is only 2 blocks away from the Reading Market. The staff was very friendly. Most importantly, this old building has been well maintained and upgraded. The shower had both abundant hot water and incredible water pressure which is frequently a challenge in older buildings. I will definitely return to the Notary on my next trip to Philly!
Amazing, beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of Philadelphia. From our window we could see City Hall (gorgeous) and the Christmas Market (which is packed up now). I didnt pay extra for the view so thanks to the guy at the front desk who gave it to us. The architecture of the hotel itself is also a stunner. Everything was very clean, which during Covid is so important. I didnt see a speck a dust anywhere. Would definitely stay here again.
This is the worst Marriott I have ever stayed at. I have Ambassador service and they messed everything up from my welcome bags that they promised to deliver per my contract to it taking 2 hours to get refreshed towel service. Do not stay here for your wedding or at all. The service here is horrible especially from Chelsea O the Event Manager.
I found the hotel to be unique and very relaxing after attending meetings all day. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room itself was spacious and clean. The beds were a little soft but overall comfortable. I love the fact that they provide individual pod type coffee for the room that is also tasty. Everything seems to be well done here.
Wonderfully remodeled historic hotel with excellent furnishings and an outstanding staff. Some COVID precautions still in place include paper cups in rooms and no ice machines. Great place to stay and central to Reading Market, Independence Square and Rittenhouse Square.
The staff takes this hotel from a quality experience to a top tier gest. The location and rooms are great. If you’re in Philly to experience the city, this hotel is at the heart of Center City. Any time my wife and I stay here, the staff goes above and beyond to make sure we are completely comfortable.
Where do I begin ? They charge your card the minute you check in. They give you 2 bottles of water that they dont even put in the fridge. They dont clean your room. They will clean it when you check out You have to ask for more water and coffee. No bathrobes. No slippers. Horrible. Would never come here again. Neither should you
I decided to stay at The Notary for a staycation to clear my head and to have a change of scenery which I was going to be doing once a month when I find the perfect hotel. The valet and the door attendant were very friendly. I approached the front desk and they were finishing with another guest. She seemed friendly but when she pulled up my reservation and saw I had checked in by mobile she said you have a key in the app enjoy your stay. I was confused as I had never used a mobile key before nor did I know where the elevators were, what my room number was, or any amenities the hotel offered. After asking a few question I was off to my room with a room key because the mobile key didnt end up working for the elevator. The room was nice, clean, and the view was what I was looking for. I get a call from the front desk who said they were going to charge me a full rate for the room because when she tried to verify my stay was being fully paid with points they were informed I didnt have enough. I told the front desk that I paid for the extra points I needed and I was unsure what the issue was. She said she didnt know but she was going to charge me and she didnt seem like she was trying to help me figure it out so I called the main customer service line myself. After 2 1/2 hours on the phone they realized when I called that morning to make the reservation the charge didnt go through. The initial representative I spoke to was nice but the rep who she transferred me to for escalation was horrible and rude. I told him I was just trying to get away and was hungry and at this point I had been on the phone for hours it was 7pm and I mind as well go home because Im not relaxed, everything in Philadelphia would be closing soon, and so far I spent my trip on the phone with them. He said ok you can go downstairs to the front desk and let them know you want to leave in the most condecending tone! I never write bad reviews because Im in the customer service industry I understand everything wont be perfect but usually you find someone who makes the situation better. This is usually done by free points, comp stay, comp food something. It just didnt happen every step of the way I was met with rude people and it wasnt my issue my card was working fine. I would think the hotel industry being heavily hit in this time would have service at the top of their list. Safe to say I wont be using the Notary as my monthly staycation location.
Went to check in on 3/19 around 3:30pm. The front desk person was rude and aggressive. She was very helpful to the homeless community customers that were checking in but very rude and mean to tourist customers. This hotel is not a good choice for visitors. I decided to leave and find a new hotel. After waiting on her to acknowledge me as a customer, then to be treated very aggressive by her was quite disappointing. She was very mean and just awful.
The hotel was stylishly decorated from the lobby to the guest rooms. There were lots of elevators making the wait to and from the upper levels minimal. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant was really nice and the staff was super friendly. I was a little bummed that the burger I ordered had so much grease. The amount of grease resulted in a soggy bottom bread before I could finish it. In the room, I loved the shower and the bed. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have stayed in in a very long time. The mirror in the bathroom is a very large make-up style mirror, making getting ready super easy. I also have started to look for a mirror like that for myself! I also loved the location. It was within walking distance to so many different bars and restaurants.
We were in town for a show at City Winery and decided to stay the weekend. The Notary was perfect! Within walking distance to everything (including Reading Terminal Market, which we visited twice a day to eat and snack!). The Hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the staff are amazing, the rooms are beautifully decorated and the bed and pillows are perfect. We did not eat at the restaurant so I cant comment to that. We did have a drink at the bar, it wasnt cheap and the bartender was busy, but the drink was poured perfectly. Next time I might consider splurging on one of the corner rooms for a better view! There will definitely be a next time.
Loved this hotel and the location. Beautiful rooms, quiet, stunning building and decor. Would definitely stay here again. It would have received 5 stars but parking was a complete cluster. I called ahead by a few days as I was pricing local parking vs. hotel parking. Since valet parking was convenient, and offered in and out service, as well as a competitive price, we decided to skip booking a 3rd party lot. I did ask if I needed to book in advance for the weekend and I was told it would be no problem to get parking at check in. When we arrived, cars at valet were quadruple parked, and the valet told us they were sold out. We were told to use Spot Hero to book a nearby space which we did, only to be turned away by that lot because they were full (now we have to deal with getting a refund). My husband and son had to drive around in terrible traffic for 1.5 hours trying to find an open lot which ruined our plans for the afternoon. It would have been nice to have been warned that the hotel was at capacity and to book other arrangements. But otherwise, the hotel itself was great.
If I could describe the place in one word it would definitely be CLASSY. Plush finishes, the mattress is amazing, the tech is up to date and rooms have all the modern conveniences you could want as a traveler. Modern hospitality has become a difficult road to navigate but they’ve nailed it here!
The Notary is a beautiful boutique hotel with lots of comfort, charm, and character. It is centrally located next to shopping, restaurants, the Reading Market, and sightseeing options. It was perfect for our first time visit to Philly. We also loved the easy access to the subway which we took to the ball park.
We were in Philadelphia for a brief getaway. We did not need much service nor did we need to take advantage of many of the services offered. However we LOVED our stay at the Notary. The room was beautiful, nicely laid out and pretty. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was updated, modern and very clean. My husband used the fitness center and found it to have a great combination of workout gear for a hotel and said it was clean and very light. The location was fabulous and the exit/entry was very convenient for a hotel in a crowded donwtown area. The room was really nice but in general we found the hotel to be comfortable, charming and quiet. Wonderful stay!
The location is very good for city center Philly. Parking is valet only but not that much more expensive than nearby garages. We were never identified or greeted as Marriot Elite members during check in as we have been at every other Marriot property we have stayed in during the past year. Room was ok, nothing special. Decor is going for trendy but looks cheap. Lighting in room is awful. When we went out in the am and returned around 2pm our room had not received housekeeping services. However extra pillows we had requested were just thrown on the unmade beds. We let the front desk know and they said they would take care of it. We left again and returned around 6. Still no housekeeping. It just never happened. We did however see the staff member we complained to smoking a cigarette outside the front door in their uniform. Quite trashy if you ask me. We won’t be returning to this hotel
The onsite restaurant was not good, the service was fine but the food was mediocre . The bar drink options were nice. The coffee shop was also enjoyable. Elevators are noisy and slow. Love the lobby decor but it didnt match the room decor and wish the rooms were more trendy feeling like the lobby. My room felt rundown and like some of the pieces of furniture were outdated. Would have preferred softer bath towels. Hotel staff was efficient. A good stay overall but nothing special. Loved the location of the hotel though and would stay again.
Poor service from front desk to housekeeping to valet. $56 per night per car for parking and having to wait 45-60 min for car to arrive. Valet workers ruid and disorganized. There for a soccer tournament and ice machines weren’t working. Tried to request a meeting room for the team to eat pizza and had to call Julia 3x to get a response. Overall, very dissatisfied with the service and lack of care/concern. I would not return.
The notary hotel firstly is in such a great location. By stepping out the front door you have City Hall to your left and then the Masonic temple to your right which makes for a magical scene at night! The rooms are immaculately clean and super inviting. Hit it on the nail with the decor. Beds were also super cozy! The tapas restaurant in the hotel was spot on. The Spanish influence decor was just done beautifully! Really delicious drinks. Great place to relax and do some work.Overall a great stay! Everyone that worked there made sure to say hello to me and the front desk was so welcoming! Will be back in the future!!
Staff is really nice. Hotel has been updated but still feels a bit dated. The staff was very friendly. Status not even remotely mentioned or recognized. If you dont know what youre entitled too then youll certainly miss out because no one is going to offer.Had a 2 night stay but somehow they checked my wife and I out of our room and reassigned us to another. They fixed the error and said that room service would come by to tidy up since we were not checking out nor moving rooms. Room service never showed up. Bathroom sink leaked from the base of the faucet. The restaurant is an acquired taste. Hotel is big and for a place accommodating a lot of folks it was surprisingly quiet. Valet service was pretty quick for the volume of cars. The hotel is in walking distance to many places. Would I stay at this hotel again, probably not and certainly wouldnt recommend it.
The decor and ambiance was so amazing. The architecture of the building was so amazing and Also the view of city center down below. Reading Terminal Market you can get amazing food and support local business. The hotel is in walking distance from all of the shopping centers.
I loved the ability to come in and change certain stay details. The hosts were great every time I interacted with them.Facilities were friendly. The rooms were very good.I noticed that construction was being done and was not intrusive at all.The Restaurant 1926 was really accommodating to me and my friends who came over to eat dinner.

2022-02-27Very cozy stylish hotel. The entire hotel was very clean. Room was very spacious, bathroom was spotless and very spacious as well. Plenty towels available and if you need more just ring the front desk, they were very helpful. Everyone was very pleasant and welcoming. Room 707 has amazing view. Bed was too comfortable 😉.The restaurant and bar was very busy on Friday night and the bartender was very quick and made drinks on point. Food was tasty and the couple hours there was very nice.Over all it was a great experience and we want to thank everyone for great hospitality.

2022-04-06The Notary is a wonderful boutique hotel nestled in downtown Philly with a memorable history. The lobby area is welcoming and eclectic with the stack of book spines that forms a painting . Theres even an old fashioned stamp near the tourist brochures and maps. The reception is welcoming and efficient in getting us to our room, which was pretty roomy and clean. There isnt anything lacking in the room and the bathroom, and we loved the comfy down pillows that nestled us into dream land. The downstairs bar is great for late night drinks and we loved how close it was to Reading Terminal Market. The hotel is across the street from City Hall and location is safe and convenient.

2022-04-14Great well appointed/clean rooms, great location & easily walkable. Staff inside the hotel and the restaurant are really friendly, expeditious and overall provide great service. Unfortunately, the valet manager does not exemplify these same attributes. As the first and last touchpoint for the guest, I hope they are able to improve this. I had to help two cars reverse out into busy rush hour traffic, as he neglected to create an exit pathway for us to leave, even after we specifically asked for help . Park elsewhere, not worth your your money, time and stress

2022-03-15Love this place. Exquisitely designed and a great lobby area. Hotel staff is incredibly helpful and efficient. I felt I stepped back in time to when the guests were king/queen. Beds were comfortable. Wish I had more time to explore the hotel. Next time!

2022-06-05June 2022:Stayed here for three nights during the week. Overall, thought the hotel was okay. My biggest disappointment was the comfort level of the bed. The mattress seemed a bit worn out and the foam pillowtop on top of the mattress wasnt comfortable. I think the thinness of the fitted sheet made the bed lack that luxury feeling that I was expecting. That was my biggest issue with the stay. After the first night, I slept on the other side of the bed which was slightly better. But I still didnt get a restful nights sleep. Id rate the bed a 4 out of 10. ☹️Another negative was the windows didnt muffle the sound outside. So at 2-3am, I could hear cars and motorcycles zooming around outside. Surprised since I was on the 12th floor.Another slight disappointment was the hotel didnt have room service. So on my first night, I checked in at 956pm and the restaurant was closing in four minutes. So my dinner was beef jerky and trail mix from the hotel gift shop. ☹️Everything else was good to okay. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good. Room was good size.Would I stay here again? Not sure. I expected more from an autograph collection hotel.

2022-07-03I’ve stayed in a million hotels where the staff just treats you like another guest. But I would be remiss to not give Gordon, Brooke, Dominique & Khalia their praises. I can see they have great, authentic rapport between them. Professional beyond compare and knowledgeable about accommodations to elevate my family and I experiences while visiting. They truly went above and beyond to ensure that our needs were met. Truly a great team.

2022-01-28Positive: Just overall a great place to stay. Location is great and the hotel has amazing character. Only thing I¿d have to say is that everything closes really early around there. So having to get convenience items makes it a bit of a hurdle. Would stay here 11

2022-05-09Rooms are great. Staff is friendly. Brook at reception was very welcome. Hope the mgmt is reading this, they trained their people well. A good visit for a fair price. Right at city hall square. It was a nice nod to the hotels history that your room card is stamped with the logo. Clever.Photos from the executive queen suite.

2022-04-23Tone deaf guest services member denied ability to cancel when I tried to cancel a reservation made ~18 hours prior due to a family illness (during a pandemic). Staying in Marriott hotels 20+ nights last year and on pace for 40+ this year seemed to make no difference to this person. Really makes me wonder if I should consider other hotel chains for all my stays. If you dont get service here then what is the loyalty really good for?

2022-07-05Room #1104Friendly staff (gave us a room with a great city view, it was originally more expensive than the one I paid for) , great great location, walking distance from main attractions. comfy bed. Down feather pillow, acrylic/polyester bed duvet.Cons:Hygiene was not as expected for a 4 stars. The lobby carpet was very dirty and stained. Bathroom ceiling has mold growing and theres a lot of dirt and dust in the HVAC
