The portion sizes are absolutely huge so we always have a meal for the next day which is always nice. The menu is large and accommodating for the whole family. It has that old dark pub vibe when you first walk in but they have a beautiful glass room and a patio. Great people. Great food. What’s not to like?
Excellent experience from start to finish. Our server Patti was knowledgeable and fun and recommended some of her favorites. The menu is large and there is something for everyone. Our food came out quick, the portions were huge and everything was delicious. Highly recommend Phils Tavern if you like good food, a relaxing setting and friendly, personable staff.
I’ve eaten Phil’s many times, mostly against my better judgement because I WANT to like the food. Unfortunately, everything (literally EVERYTHING) tastes overly seasoned by powdered garlic, even the salads. I like garlic, I like flavor, but Phil’s takes it to the next level. It really leaves a “bad taste” in my mouth.
Old school comfort food. Huge menu. Very noisy, obviously popular. Waitstaff polite, friendly and attentive. Salad and fries were excellent. Stuffed flounder not so much. Remember the old axiom order seafood at a seafood place. Servings huge, we all left with doggie bags.
Simply put, this was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, the service was good and friendly oh, and we generally enjoy the atmosphere. I should also know that the meals are well priced for the quality and the quantity. We were there for a special occasion, but well definitely be going back for an ordinary visit sometime in the near future. For the record, you have not lived until youve tried Jakes Salmon Burger. Do your soul a favor and try that once in your life, then try it again.
My wife and I visit here once a year, for the past 3 years, after an annual business meeting we attend in the area. Our meals are always enjoyable. From burgers with crabmeat on them, to cheesesteaks and BLTs with lobster on them, the food has always delivered wonderful flavors. The drinks are strong, and the beer is cold. The service is top notch. We always feel at home. The servers are so friendly and accommodating. We look forward to eating here anytime we are in the area.
I got the cheesesteak. Lots of glorious meat surrounded by Kaka. The bartender spent most of her time tending to her needy boyfriend and his four friends. There was a lot of very very good meat. The roll did an admirable job. The extras were not mixed in. The cheese was non existent until I saw some (unmelted) at the end of the roll. The tomatoes were weak. Overall big place, their own parking lot, several dining rooms, big bar area with TV’s and several best of Montco’s. The meat and roll were contenders, the rest needs to be revisited.
First time visiting and one of the best hometown pubs Ive been to in a long time. The menu was enormous with so many options ,we enjoyed Ahi spicy Tuna sandwich fantastic ! French onion soup delicious, Pulled pork sandwich great, Grilled Ahi tuna sandwich lots of beer and wine to top it off . Highly recommend but bring your appetite 😜
This was my second time eating here and I was so impressed! The menu is huge, the food was delicious! We came on St. Patricks Day and we had the corned beef and cabbage, a Reuben, a Corned Beef Special and a burger and onion rings and EVERYTHING was excellent! They have generous portions We took food home. We had Shelby as our waitress and she was attentive and friendly. My husband is still talking about the Corned Beef and Cabbage! Cant wait to return!
Great food, not good service. We understand everyone is short staffed, but if your servers are overwhelmed you should put guests on a wait rather than subject them to poor service. Our server was not very friendly, only touched our table once since she took our order, and we had to wait 20 minutes after our meals were done to have another server give us our check and ring us out because the server we were assigned seemed to be paying more attention to other tables rather than ours. Will not be going back anytime soon.
Chicken was raw - had blood in it. Owner said food never comes out raw.French onion soup had no flavor. Owner said it’s been the same recipe for 30 years. I encouraged him to go and taste it.Been going there for many years. Very disappointed in service, food and professionalism.
Service was fast. Food was good. Problem is, they have become very pricey. We used to go twice a month. Now its like 4 times a year. When you pay 17.00 on average for a sandwich with chips, thats why its no longer twice a month. I get food prices are up on certain items, but its ridiculous that they are 5-7 dollars more than most places and those other places give you fries, not upcharge you for them.
I have never stopped in before tonight. Passed it a lot taking a friend to work. Decided to give it a try and the wings were just the way I like them and the meatloaf dinner reminded of a big family meal. It was very good and I not only would recommend going there to eat but plan to stop in again soon with my friend. The service was great and the place was well maintained. It has a family feel for a tavern.
I dont think Ive ever had a bad meal at Phils. Quality & quantity stand out. We are always taking food home to enjoy later or next day. Atmosphere is cozy communal. Theres a large fireplace which makes it so inviting in the fall & winter. The dining area is a large open floor with open tables, reasonably spaced, but you will hear many conversations. Several large screen TVs are mounted to the walls but not great for viewing. This is not a sports bar. The service is also outstanding. The timing of the food is near perfect, always hot. Prices, IMO, are slightly higher than comparable establishments, but the others dont match the quality, quantity, service, and, yes, the relaxed, cozy ambiance of this friendly, inviting bar-restaurant. I love the place. PS: it appears there is outside seating set up as eell.
Phil’s tavern has the best food menu around. The burgers are gigantic, the Cajun chicken Caesar salad is the best around. The Callie’s broccoli bites with horseradish cream sauce are great too. Never had a bad lunch here. Recommended for a good lunch spot if you’re really hungry. Also try the bbq brisket sandwich too it’s really tangy and sweet. Had it twice
The Best Burger in town!! Great salad plenty to share! U better be hungry because the portions are plentiful. The Ahi Tuna is a high grade and perfect for rare. Cant pick a favorite!! The Cesare salad with Salmon is a lunch the next day leftover. I am thinking of the Spinach Salad with Ahi Tuna tonight!! U will not be disappointed! So happy they survived the Pandemic!!
The burgers is my favorite meal to get from Phils. The everyone is very polite. They have a large menu with amazing food for you to chose from. They have lots of seating and parking both right outside and across the street. It is a great place to go with friends or your family. If I could I would give them more then 5 stars.
I visited your place back in the 90s with my dad before all of the remodeling and revisited on 11-11-21 absolutely beautiful remodel jib well done loved it my girlfriends first time and definitely not our last food was amazing great atmosphere very nice place loved it staff very warm and friendly thank you
We love Phil’s! We have been regular diners for about twelve years now. My husband and I went weekly with my dad and every time we arrived our usual drinks would arrive at our table without us having to order them. The wait staff is wonderful, attentive, and clearly care about their customers. The food is good and plentiful and the drinks are excellent.
First, the menu. Why?! It’s a heavy book with 14 pages, no I’m not exaggerating, we counted. Appetizers can be found on 4 different pages, while a draft and bottled beer list is scattered throughout. The menu items are named after people, which is more confusing than cute. We did like the low ceilings and room separations, a touch of tavern and cozy ambiance. The food is good, but a bit overpriced for the style. They have high end restaurant dishes (and the prices to match) when most people seem to order salads and burgers. The food was good, not great, not bad. Big portions :) The beer selection is awesome. Overall, I’m not really impressed, ill think twice about coming back.
Phils is always great. Huge portions of great food. If you like sandwiches it has an enormous selection of great sandwiches. When I can get there I go for the burgers usually. I think theyre the best in the philly area that Ive found. Service is always top notch and the atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Always sports on the tvs. Just a good place to go eat and drink and enjoy time with friends.
Huge portions the best philly cheesesteak I ever had. They also have phenomenal onion soup. It was great. I also ordered some carrot cake that was very very good. Very crowded and fun atmosphere. My wife really enjoyed her salad. Richard was also huge. Were very reasonable. It was a most enjoyable evening.
A very extensive food menu. The staff is always courteous and fast and the food is always good! I especially like the daily specials. Never had a bad meal yet and have been going here for years. Prices are competitive and you get lots of food for your money. Phils is always a good place to go!
This was my first time at Phils Tavern. Every one( staff and other patrons) was so friendly. This is a very large but cozy place. I had a pineapple martini...very good. Cheeseburger and onion rings...very good. I am glad I came here... I have no complaints.I ll be back for sure.
The menu is way to big. Quality control needs to be consistently monitored. The food was OK. The service was good. Too many TVs in the main dining room, a cross between a sports space and dinner space. Even with the sound off.Free parking at restaurant and across the street.
Wonderful experience during Covid! The meal was great, but the precautions taken for the public are amazing. They have clean pens to sign with, then, once used they are placed in dirty pens basket to be disinfected. A practical pick up is enforced. When we looked in our bag, packets of ketchup were in a plastic container. And then.... To top things off, an environmentally safe roll of toilet paper!! Really great job Phils! Thank you!
Phil’s Tavern is my absolute favorite restaurant. The food is delicious, I would highly recommend trying the Gianna’s Chili Cheese Fries. Service has always been great and it’s not too pricey especially considering the quality of food and big portions. You’re guaranteed to find something you love here!
Good friends suggested we go there for dinner we brought our children it was amazing great service. Very large portions of food. Great prices. Would highly recommend. Live in SJ and totally worth the trip will be going back again real soon. So many great choices on menu.
Dated with a diner feel, this is a place often teeming with guests. Much will be made of the extensive menu, and the portion sizes tend toward generous. However, nothing is amazingly tasty or unique, its simply quantity over quality. The decor looks like your eldest aunts never updated house, with 3 large seating areas: a bar area housing the original tables, and 2 added sections in wonderful early 80s green and pinkish trim. The place is OK, nothing interesting nor well done and it is better than a fast food restaurant. Average has its place and for that its popular.
Great Bar environment. Make reservations or get there early as the Tavern s popularity is obvious by the number of customers. Sport bar environment is not overwhelming. Food is GOOD, varied and excels beyond bar food. Phils accommodates Family, friends, children, dates and Seniors in a welcoming manner. Will get filled at Phils.
We love eating out. Yesterday we came to this delicious restaurant which friends recommended to us. We passed a beautiful time there with first-rate meal and an experienced stuff and a great cuisine. We put this restaurant in our list and we will certainly come back very soon. We warmly recommend.
Ive only been there once, but really enjoyed it and will certainly go back. The service was great, a niece atmosphere, and our food was fantastic. The lumb crab cocktail appetizer was better than any Ive ever had. I then had the lobster stuffed baked flounder, which was absolutely delicious. I was there on a business trip so I dont know when Ill get back, but sure wish it were close enough for me to go regularly!
Huge Portions for great price along with great food. A Pub type atmosphere but can sit in an area for more of a typical restaurant feel. Bartenders are quick and talkative to customers. Clearly why this long standing staple will be around for years to come hopefully!
The service was fine, but the food was just okay. I ordered the filet sandwich with Swiss cheese and mushrooms. The roll was huge compared to the steak, mushrooms and cheese. The server asked for a temperature for the steak, but the cut was so thin that there was no way to achieve the medium-rare that I ordered. My husband ordered the ahi tuna sandwich, prepared at the recommended temperature. The quality of the tuna just wasnt good enough to support a rare tuna steak. The portion had a fair amount of connective tissue, making it difficult to chew. Again, the bun was too large.Honestly, the were doing a robust lunch time business, so they must be doing something right, it just wasnt our favorite.
Great place! The food is always really good & I can taste the high quality ingredients that they use. The portions are so large that I alway take half of my entree home. Never had any problems with service. Large menu has something for everyone. Drinks are great here.
We went for a weekend lunch 3/1/14, not to the bar or any of the other activities they may host. I had a Salmon burger and it was big! A real piece of Salmon, not some small frozen fish patty on a large Kaiser roll. Fries could have been hotter, but the burger was really good. My parents like their burgers & cheese steak sandwiches. Overall a nice place. Service was average
Very large quantities of food, so plan to go hungry. Food quality and taste is average, but one entree can feed him one person for days. Plenty of seating, do wait time isnt that long and service is good - always coming by to fill your drinks and see if theres anything you need
Was eating outside tonight and had four bees flying around us. With someone allergic to bees we had to pack our food to go. Went in to just tell the manager about it so he could do something and was told “That’s nature. We can’t do anything about it.” Very poor customer service. I have been eating outside for months and never had an issue like this. I won’t ever be going back here and I have been going for a long time.
Terrible. Neither my dinner nor my girlfriends had any flavor. The brisket looked like it was boiled in a bag. It was a wattery mess of chopped beef. My fish lacked any kind of seasoning. They even stole my garlic bread recipe which is to take a roll, cover it in butter and garlic powder then bake until slightly black along an edge. Maybe Im 40 years too young to enjoy this place and its soft, bland food. 2 stars because they managed to make a decent cocktail and our server was attentive.
Good food and good drinks over the years has raised Phils to the level of being a local institution. Its the go to place for many people if someone asks for a recommendation for a good restaurant in the moderate price range. Almost every time I go there I see someone I know. Not a giant menu, but its all good, and portions are sizable. Not just burgers: full dinners including seafood. Wrap around bar is conducive to conversation. Service is attentive. Only knock is overflow parking is across busy Butler Pike. Try to go off hours.
Nice place - gigantic menu of food. I had the tilpia with crabmeat - really good. Big portions. My salad and soup came out almost immediately. Was there on a Friday night - very busy. Got seated immediately - my kids got crayons, and we got the menu of food. Too many items to choose from, but from what I overheard from other tables - they food is generous and delicious.I was pleasantly surprised, the gossip at the other tables was true. The check came way too late, which is a big no-no in my book - but that was the waitress, not the restaurant - I would go back, if and when I am there.
Our latest trip to Phils Tavern was very disappointing. We ordered a specialty cheesesteak and a chicken salad wrap The chicken salad was not tasty at all. Our meal felt rushed by our many servers and while attentive, there were so many, it was difficult for them to keep track of what we ordered.I find Phils menu to be underwhelming, even though they have pages and pages of food listed. They are known for their gigantic portions, which is great if youre a hearty eater who likes standard American restaurant fare. Our bill was $53 which is highway robbery, in my book.
If youre in the mood for anything, Phils probably has it. Their menu is one of the biggest, most comprehensive things I have ever seen. Yesterday, I had an ahi tuna sandwich, my boyfriend had a burger, my father had beef brisket, my mother had a salmon BLT and my aunt had a tuna melt. Everyone was happy and exceedingly well fed.
It was a Friday around 6 pm in December. There were a lot of children in this tavern. It was not like it had been 10-15 years ago. Not impressed with the food or atmosphere at all. Cheese steaks were wet, fried onions smelled like a can and were not fried ( they looked like they were the frozen chopped onions you get from the grocery store that accidentally missed the freezer and just thawed out on the counter in the bag.) I ended up picking them off. I only ate half. Also, the soda was off. I just wanted to leave. Unless you have small children, I wouldnt go here on a date or nite out. It wasnt good. They should change the name. Could also use a remodel besides just adding flat TVs. Also parking is messed up in that lot across the street. 3 stars because waitress was ok. Thats about it. Im being generous with this review.
My god. What a massive cheesesteak. Me and a buddy went in for lunch and sat at the bar both of us ordered a cheesesteak and fries and the steak was massive. Like probably close to a pound of meat massive. Served with a fork massive. It was a very good sandwich but it can be difficult to finish. Dont give up on the steak it will fill you up for the entire day. Also recommend the spicy pickles as an appetizer they are very flavorful and have just the right amount of spice. Great service and great food we will be back.
Go there hungry! Large food portions that when you cannot finish during lunch, bring home in a doggie bag for dinner.Awesome place with TVs all around to watch every sporting event. Very friendly and attentive staff. Definitely recommend this place for lunch, dinner or even for cocktails.
The chicken cheesesteak was pretty awful. The chicken had a weird microwaved or not fresh taste & it was unseasoned. An unseasoned chicken cheesesteak! So weird. Couldn’t eat it. Good fries & Cole slaw. Too big of portions. Would rather get less and pay less. Okay interior. Good service.
Ive been going to Phils for about a year now since I started working in the office across the street. Great spot for drinks, a sit down meal or a meal for work. Their menu is extensive, their staff is knowledgeable and courteous and the food is great! We will continue to frequent this place.
Amazing food but worst service Ive ever had today. Waitress completely ignored us, tried to get her attention for literally 15 minutes. Asked someone else for a box and check. She comes over and throws ot on the table and stomps away. 1st time I have left any Waitress a 5% instead of 20% tip. So disapponting
Food and service was just ok. Desserts are terrible. I ordered the dark side of the moon. Tasted like premade from some grocery store that sat around for a week. Sent it back tried apple pie. Omg. Worse! Soggy and tasted bad. Cant even describe it. Not sure why this place is so busy. Nothing more than a dive bar with mediocre food. Once was enough for me. Unlesd you are there to watch a game and get drunk...Go somewhere else!
Food was good however server was slow to respond. We were the second party in the restaurant seated quickly but two more patrons were seated after us and the wait staff walked right past us to the other patrons first. Unfortunately due to this experience we will most likely never return again.
Over priced food, in a historic building. Food was ok. I had a BLT sandwich $10.99 it had mostly lettuce, a couple slices of tomato and a few pieces of bacon, came with chips and a pickle. I wont ever go there again, only went because a friend had a gift certificate.
Phils Tavern is a cool casual spot in a low key part of PA. They have a huge menu, so go prepared to eat for two. I ordered the Salmon Burger, which is a giant piece of oven baked salmon. It comes with a shrimp remoulade that is delicious. I would recommend coming here with a group.
Phils is the best casual restaurant in the world, and I am not exaggerating. The food is delicious, the prices are fair, and the portions are two-fers or three-fers. My favorites are the French onion soup, the hot chicken salad and any burger. And the people and atmosphere are welcoming. You can thank me later.
Terrible. I have given this place many chances. Tonight was the last straw. If u ever go somewhere and order a burger and it comes on a kasier roll twice the size or the actual burger u should send it back and ur right to ever serve a burger again should b revoked. Go to bk and get a whopper. Cheaper and better. All the food here is just average. Large portions dont make up for a lack in quality.
I dont write reviews but you earned it, Phils.I live on the road, if I get all my meals I eat in 15 restaurants a week and have for the last 25 years.I know a great place when Im in it, and you guys are tops!I wont forget Phils anytime soon, plan on returning before I leave town, and WILL be back any time Im anywhere near here.
Phils Tavern is an institution. My wife and I first went about 20 years ago and we liked it immediately. It was a spot like the Cheers Bar featured in the tv show. The portions are humongous! My weight lifter son wasnot able to finish his meal, that never happens! We ate there recently and it was exactly the same. This is textboik example of how to run a ducessful business!
Lunch time is the best time to visit. However, after coming back from a concert at the Keswick Theater, were were disappointed with the quality of food ( a couple of times ). There is definitely a difference between the lunch staff and cooks and the nighttime staff and cooks.

2021-10-22I felt like I walked into an old time mob bar. This place is amazing. The menu is absolutely huge! And it is all good and unique. Nice beer selection on tap. And most amazing is that they were serving food until midnight on a Thursday!!! Can you say Late Night Food! Most places arent even staying open past 10pm post Covid, and these guys have nearly full kitchen going till midnight! That is worth an extra Star! Find this place and stop inIt is historic little corner of the US.

2022-05-27Phils has the best Mothers Day brunch. We had reservations for noon and arrived earlier than expected and seated immediately. The staff was amazing, took our beverage order first and then ordered our meal. So many options available. Our meal came out perfectly timed, hot and complete. We had everything we needed including drinks refilled. We were in and out within an hour. I would definitely recommend

2021-10-30Great place for pub food and casual dining, huge menu of excellent food. Ambience is good and service is stellar. Best cheese steaks in the area, and the beer and cocktail menu has a lot of choices. Wish I lived closer so I could go more often!

2022-05-29The people were super friendly. But the food was not great. Granted I only had a few small dishes, but I ended up not eating half of it. The fried mushrooms had no flavor at all. The fries were ok. The French onion soup was ok, but also a bit bland. Parking was limited as well since it was very busy. I would have tried other dishes, but not many were vegetarian friendly. Overall a decent restaurant.

2022-04-28Always a great meal.Jack says Phil’s I was his best dinner experience ever. He had the Marks sandwich, it was delicious. Meredith was our waitress and she was friendly, quick, and attentive.

2022-03-31The higher ups at this establishment do not treat their POC employees respectfully. They go against peoples availabilities and dont even read their employees resumes to see how credible they are. Do not go here and support the people here. Do better if you want a variety in your customers and not just rich white people.

2022-05-24Booked a small room here for our family after a funeral. Accommodations were perfect and everyone loved the food. There was something for everyone and staff was so attentive and kind. Thank you.

2022-04-22Good food, fast service, good service. Steaks were a bit overcooked when asking for medium and medium rare and they came out well done and dry. Aside from that, it was a decent Easter experience.

2022-05-05Great food and extensive Menu! A fav! Found it thru a workplace. Ive since moved on and am nowhere near Blue Bell but come back frequently! Its that good!!!
