Scam!RSVP one car; had to pay to upgrade because my car was given to person “in front of me” and no other cars in that category we’re available.Paid for insurance through Expedia upon renting the car, $30. They charged me $158 extra because they do not participate in third party insurance.Gas; they tell you more convenient to pay for gas there rather than finding gas station near airport. They charge me $68 for a full gas tank when I turned it in with half a tank.$26 dollars for roadside as it’s not included in the $158 insurance.&& to make matters worst they charged a $21 concession Fee for using there location; like if you have any other choice. When calling the rental car area there responds was “well you signed, so I don’t understand the problem.”
Plane landed at 5:50pm, after taking the provided shuttle, I had to wait in line for over THREE HOURS for them to find a car which I matched the description (generic suv) I had already reserved and paid for in advance. If not for their no-refund policy, I would have cancelled hours earlier while waiting in the massive line. I finally left that wretched place at 9:01pm
Went through Priceline. Upon registration to pick up car, we waited in line about half hour. Whole experience felt close to an hour. Overhead tv was playing so hearing was difficult I understand understaffing during these times. But customers have itineraries to meet. When we were called next in line, manager Ed didn’t seem to know how to circumvent difficult computer system so we were transferred to helpful associate. Again, we couldn’t hear well and we’re snipping told that we were told that Info. Will NOT use this service again. Cannot recommend anything about it.
Theyll definitely try to shame you in an attempt to add on additional insurance or extras. Beware if you go through one of the unattended tolls that you cant pay for on the spot (the toll fee gets mailed based on the license plate), having to pay the $6.80 toll I went through was expected, the $15 Administration Fee PER TOLL was not. Will NEVER use Thrifty again.
Me and my work colleague were renting a car here that we had pre-paid. We got the WORST customer service I (or he) have ever experienced, and we are not picky at all. The young lady servicing us was super-rude, not helpful in any way, didnt tell us about any extra rates clearly, etc. I would NEVER rent a cart from this place. Be warned.
Don’t rent from thrifty in Tampa airport or anywhere. My cousin and I traveled to Tampa. He ordered the rental in his name. When we got there he only had a debit card. I agreed to use my credit card for deposit purposes. They said they had to change everything to my name and offered to add him as an authorized driver however, NEVER Disclosed information regarding charges for authorized driver. I questioned the total and they said it was a deposit. The total was not actually a deposit it was the authorized driver fee that we were never told about. I called customer service and they refused to compensate me. They will NEVER get a penny out of me again. Poor customer service and telling straight lies when questioned.
A rare 5 star rating, booked a cloaked rental at Dollar via Orbitz, meaning you pay a low rate but roll the dice on the vehicle youre going to receive when you pickup, the website said it would be a 5 passenger, I got a Chevrolet Trax, a small SUV, 20k miles, perfect. Shuttle to and from PHL rental counter was a short wait, friendly helpful drivers, counter wait was also short, no high pressure sales addons, drop off was a breeze. Not sure if I was lucky or good!
First the gps couldn’t even find this place. Got dropped off at hertz by an angry taxi driver who circled me around the airport twice looking for this place. Ended up walking a .5 mile to it. Got there and there’s a line of like 75 people. Lines not moving. The few people who got through the line are camping on the parking lot waiting. I waited 20 min. Line didn’t move. I quit. Leaving now. Will Uber to the city and take my chances finding something else. Don’t ever use thrifty!!!
Horrible customer service , louie was very rude and her and her coworker was too busy talking and not assisting customers . Very unprofessional place. Even if you show them your reservation and id and debit card they still deny you a car without reason . I will never rent from them again . Go to budget next door if you really need a car
Be very careful when renting a car from Thrifty. When you get home, and possibly a month later, they will still be charging you administrative fees. The fees are 15.00 per toll assessed up to 6 administrative fees. So I was charged 13.00 in tolls and 90.00 in administrative fees. What a scam, I will never do business with them again. It is less expensive to Uber and Thrifty is not a good way to describe their business practices, trust me. Dont give me your we are sorry responses Thrifty give me a refund!!! You are a crooked organization.
AVOID! Thrifty basically has a license to STEAL money from you as long as they have your credit card number and a signature. NOTICE IN THEIR COPY AND PASTE APOLOGY BELOW, THEY STILL WOULDNT OFFER ANY WAY TO CORRECT THIS. The two of us rented a car and without even giving us the option of one or two drivers, they put us both down as drivers. They said theyd need both of our credit cards so I provided mine as well and said Id have no charges on my card other than a $200 security deposit which would be refunded when the vehicle is returned. I came to find out that they charged me $117.60 after we returned the vehicle. I called to find out what this was for and they told me it was a secondary driver fee even though there was absolutely no mention of this when we picked up the vehicle and it wasnt even something we wanted, needed or even used. I called to dispute this with two different people and they both told me they were not authorized to give refunds, but they also would not put me through to anyone that is authorized. One even told me that the mistake was caused by the branch we rented the car from, so they inadvertently admitted it was their mistake. She told me Id need to call that specific location to dispute it. I was quick to point out that this is just an obvious tactic to give me the runaround as I called the number provided for that branch to begin with so if I were to hang up and call that number, it would just loop me back to the call center again to which she quickly tried to change the subject. They even refused to transfer me directly to that branch or provide me with a direct number which is a huge red flag that this is all part of their strategy designed to take your money. This large company would rather STEAL an extra $117.60 from a customer than to make more off of a return customer or a good recommendation.EDIT: Two weeks later now I find out they are billing me for an additional charge. When we picked up the car, we opted to not pay for their EZ pass option as we were only going to pass a few $1 tolls along the way. At the first toll, the toll booth attendant advised us that the EZ pass on the windshield was open and had scanned. He said he could not undo this and advised us to close it for future tolls (We picked up the car at night so we did not notice it was left open) When we returned the vehicle, we were honest with the attendant and told him what happened. He said to not worry about it and wed simply be charged $1 through thrify instead of paying at the toll which was perfectly reasonable. Come to find out this was a lie and two weeks later I received a bill for $82.49 for this $1 toll. This rental company is disgusting. Im still attempting to correct this as it is completely deceitful. UPDATE: I was able to get the 82.49 ez pass charge knocked down to $1, but only by agreeing to have my name be on some sort of bizarre secret Thrifty naughty list that they keep on customers even though I did nothing wrong. Fine with me as we will never use them again.
Absolutely disdainful operation being run at this car rental. I arrived at 10:30pm at night for my rental to be ready at 9 pm. On arrival there was a line out the door. One man went around the place asking people what was going and he heard that people were waiting for over an hour AFTER being given rental agreement to actually get a car. He left on the spot. I should have done the same. After waiting for 1.5 hours i got to the front of the line and the operator took my information. Then put me in another line! what for? no idea, we were being given no information. At this point the place is supposed to close in 30 minutes. Once I get to the front of this second line I see a lady come back in from outside who got her agreement over an hour ago. She says that she, and everyone behind her is still waiting for their car. It was at that point that I left, took a cab to alamo and had a car 10 minutes later. I hold no ill will for the lady who was operating the desk. I am sure she would have been in trouble if she just stated to all the folks waiting that they were running a 2+ hour wait delay due to lack of cars. As such, I can conclude that the management of this business are in the lowest tier of professionalism and operational competence available. There were many plane delays this night due to Hurricane weather, so I am sure it is possible to have a reasonable experience here if everything is running smoothly. BUT, if things are not, you should expect to be sent on a wild goose chase. Congratulations thrifty, you have stolen my down payment, but you have lost the future business of myself and everyone I know, for life.
It’s a car rental place , friendly staff but the brand new 2022 Toyota I rented had a service light on (only 3000 miles on the car) and once at speed the driver side door whistles - augh 4 hour drive each way with no hope of relief so who’s ears wouldn’t be ringing after this? I wish they serviced the car before giving it to me - low pressure tire light -a service light - and door jam whistle - I lost confidence in New 2022 Toyota cars for 100% sure - and Thrifty was thrifty so I guess I got what I paid for…
This was definitely my worst experience attempting to rent a car ever. I reserved a car weeks in advance for 10pm pickup time. Flight arrived early, so I waited for the shuttle. After trying to call several times and no shuttle after half an hour, an airport attendant suggested I walk there. So I did, across a busy roadway with all my luggage, only to arrive to a closed gate that was also physically blocked by the shuttle. The shuttle driver informed me and another customer who was in the same situation that we couldnt get in, couldnt get a car, and needed to leave. We asked what was going on and he couldnt/wouldnt give any answers. He told us to walk ALL THE WAY back down the highway to Hertz rental and that they could give us a car. Thank goodness they had just enough cars at Hertz to get both me and the other woman cars. They also kindly honored the price promised by Thrifty. But now Im fighting with Thrifty to get my money back because of course Id already been charged. It would have been nice if wed just been notified that they were going to be closing and to go elsewhere. I will never ever attempt to rent from Thrifty again.
Thrifty Insurance DisputeDO NOT TRUST WHAT THEY TELL YOU - CHECK YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE DESK.On December 16,2021 I rented a car from Thrifty at the Philadelphia airport. Once at the counter after a long wait to be pick up at the airport to be taken to their lot and waited to get my car at the counter I was never asked to decline the insurance neither was shown a detail of the charges. Carol their representative asked me to sign the little square signature pad, she placed the document inside the sleeve. I was given the jacket with the car space number, then I proceeded to take my car and leave the premises.Next day once I open my email and saw the charges, I called the customer service number and after a long wait (see attached call record). I told their representative that their mistake was going to force me to make a trip to the airport to fix the error causing me to lose about ½ day of my vacation. He told me that there was no need for that because he told me that he was going to make a note on my record that I was declining the insurance and that when I return the car at the airport there were going to be able to fix it. (lie #1)On December 27th I got to the airport and talk again with Carol, I explained to her what happened. She told me that they were not able to adjust the charges. She told me that I needed to contact their billing department to request the adjustment. (lie #2). I proceeded to leave. On December 28th I called their billing department and with the “excused” that I had signed for it they were not going to be able to adjust the charges. I requested to speak with a supervisor 3 times, after being placed on hold for three times, their representative told me that she will have to have someone call me within 24 to 48 hours. After I sensed that this was going to be the 3rd lie; I asked her to read me my telephone number. She provided with a different number that I have never owned. This company has multiple departments and their staff provides different explanations for the same problem. I have made every effort in good faith to get this resolve. It is extremely frustrating when you have a company that doesn’t act the same way to respect their customers.
This place is terrible. Had a reservation prepaid and we have been sitting outside for over an hour waiting on line. People called Ubers and left, people complaining. Overheard 2 employees saying we don’t have enough cars for all these people. Organization is terrible. No one has come out to try to pacify anyone. Just terrible!
Awful, just awful.Update/ received response from Thrifty. Regrettably the experience of being unable to reach this thrifty facility during the rental period combined with complete incompetence and inefficiency of the staff at this location I have no desire to restate my experience. When one thing goes wrong you adjust, when everything goes wrong (like this) you start over. This location warrants a complete restaffing and overhaul. Presently they are the WORST rental location have have ever experienced.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. YOU ARE NOT SAVING MONEY. I rented a car from thrifty online and paid for it “in full” so when I flew back in, I could easily pick up a car with no hassle and head to my destination. But when I got to thrifty, I was charged an extra 200$ is straight taxes on top of my 200$ payment I already paid online.Second they coated the car is a wax or some stuff that made the windshield smeary and the wipers were not able to properly work. It was just smearing water back and forth. It was so bad, I actually could see better turning the wipers off to see the road than to have them on.
I reserved and paid for a rental car online for a 10:00am pickup. I arrived at 9:45 expecting to pick up my car at 10. Nope. Had to stand in a line for three hours. One person behind the counter. One employee. One. Already late for my appointments for the day. I get in my rental, drive to my first meeting and get a call from them saying someone left a wallet in the rental car and can I come back and return it. Now Im running errands for this awful place? I waste half of my day just getting the car. Never again with this company.
If I can give them 0 stars I would!! Do not rent from this place, the worst experience ever! They tell you 1 price then charge your card whatever price they feel like it and make up any thing why they charge you that amount. I rented from them back in August and still haven’t got the correct amount fix. I will never ever do rental car from them again!!
STAY AWAY!! Thrifty/Hertz is the worst rental company I have ever used. After over a week my rental still isn’t closed out from the Philadelphia International Airport location. After numerous phone calls and getting the runaround, it still hasn’t been resolved. I have gotten same lines and the same generic script about how they will send an email to the location. Now I am being harassed with daily phone calls, text messages, and emails stating that my rental is overdue. Horrible customer service! This is completely unacceptable and as someone that travels a lot of for work, I will never rent from Thrifty/Hertz.
While there was about an hour long wait to receive my vehicle I am giving a 5 star review because of the excellent service from the guy who runs the shuttle bus. I accidentally left my wallet in my rental car and did not realize it until after waiting in line for security for over an hour. Completely panicked he not only tracked down my wallet but stayed an extra hour after his shift ended to track my wallet down from the guy who rented the car after me in New Jersey and with the help of a flight delay not only got my wallet back but I still made my flight home. I did not catch his name but he absolutely made my entire weekend and I am so grateful for him and his stellar service!
Shuttle took 40 minutes to pick us up. Counter service was good. Car was covered in scratches. Return was easy but again, no shuttle. We crossed the road on foot and walked a ways to our destination. Will not use thrifty again in the future. I would strongly recommend booking with another rental company at this airport, as they all had shuttles every 5-10 minutes.
I got scared when I saw the other reviews, but kept feeling my experience would be different. It was. My flight landed around 9:30pm on a Tues night. I got nervous because google said that the place was going to close at ten...yet I had a reservation for 10. But I was able to breath easy when the shuttle arrived at 10pm (the same exact time I made it to the shuttle stop). The guy on the shuttle helped with all our luggage which I appreciated cause I had three young kids. When I got to the rental place, there was no line. The check out process was easy, and we enjoyed talking to the worker. He seemed a lil stressed at first because it was a long day for him, but he was helpful and lightened up when we talked to him. I was a bit surprised with the 500 dollar deposit needed for the debit card transaction, but at that point, I was just glad to get a car.Even tho the worker said we wouldnt get the deposit back until we returned the car (the following week), we actually got it back the very next day. Overall, I thought my experience was fine. Im glad I didnt have to wait after such a long flight. Maybe it was the fact that it was a Tues night that made it less busy.
If I could give the Thrifty/Dollar location at the Philadelphia airport zero stars I would. I flew in to Philadelphia on a Friday afternoon and caught the rental car shuttle from the airport to Thrifty/Dollar. The shuttle driver was a man of few words, but I didnt think much of it. Little did I know, this would be a harbinger of things to come. I get to Thrifty/Dollar and there are two employees working and a line 60+ people deep. It looked and felt like the DMV. Everyone in line was angry/frustrated and there was no relief in sight. After over an hour and 30 minutes waiting in line, we get our vehicle and proceed to pull up to the booth where they review your contract before opening the gate. The woman working the booth would not stand up or walk out of her booth (maybe 3 feet) to review the contract from my outstretched arm. Instead, she asked that I back-up my vehicle and get my car closer to her booth so she didnt have to stand up or extend her arms to review my rental agreement. At this point, I wanted to freak out, but chose not to. Finally on Sunday, as I dropped-off my car and got back in their airport shuttle, several parties in the shuttle had to guess which terminal our airlines were located because the shuttle driver was mute. He wouldnt verbally identify which airlines were located in which terminals which presented a challenge to those of us who were unfamiliar with the airport. He had one job to do and failed at it miserably. This location has a leadership/culture problem. These employees, from top to bottom, might as well of said, Im not getting paid enough to care, because thats exactly how they treated their customers. Under-staffed, unprofessional, lazy and indifferent would be the adjectives I would use to describe the employees at this location. Ownership/management must do better by their employees, and maybe, just maybe, those very same employees will care about their customers. Avoid this car rental company at this location at all costs!!!
Vehicle with nearly 50,000 miles, and was experiencing what felt like failing spark plugs or ignition coil; with the vehicle misfiring constantly. Maintenance problems are understandable, but I tried several times to get customer service on the phone and send an email to their customer service, and no response or answer ever was made. Shame on me for not driving 2 hours round trip to grab a replacement vehicle while on a Trip. Poor customer service
Had a awful experience. They never made me aware that there is an early fee and I returned the car a hour early and they charged me $25. I think is so messed up because I rented it for that time now I’m getting penalized for returning it early so that they could get it rented out again. Anyone who is familiar with traveling is fully aware how easy it is to not stick to an exact schedule. Either way I’ll never rent from Thrifty again.
0 0 0 0 stars DO NOT RECOMMEND!! The staff is RUDE!!!! What a joke! I have never dealt with a place so ridiculously rude and UNPROFESSIONAL!! The lady ran the credit 4 yes FOUR times and could not get the address correct but yet it worked the first time. Now saying we can’t even rent the car.
EDIT:Have to take our own car down to our destination, and wait 10 business days,to see if we can get refunded for the car we didnt get.Paid over $500 for a rental car,Took about an hour and a half just to get down here. When we get down here, were told we need to pay a $200 refundable deposit fee...they wont accept our form of credit card.We were here from 5:30 pm..and didnt leave til 9 pm,Had to take a lyft home.No rental car still, supposed to have left for our 10 HOUR DRIVE at 3 Am,now we cant leave until 7 am.No consideration for people renting cars at this dump at all.
We had rented a car from another company and they were closed by the time we got in. We went to Thrifty Car Rental in hopes we could get a car. Thats where Carol was the breath of fresh air we needed after a long day of traveling. She was helpful, kind and compassionate. She got us a car and sent us on our way. Thank you Carol for being you and making our trip to Philadelphia memorable!
One of the worst car rental places there are. We arrived at our airport with a reservation for a 10:00 pickup. No shuttle appeared. We called 7 times, and never heard anyone. We had to hitch a ride in a reservation only car shuttle to get the same strip, where after having to walk for 10 minutes to reach the place, a man yelled at us to “Go to hertz” and that they would honor our rentals. We asked why there was no shuttle, and he said he didn’t know. We asked how we were supposed to know to go to hertz, he said we should have called. We mentioned that we did, and he said again “go to hertz”. This place is a total scam, and nobody should ever use this service.
I would have to give one star for the wait & 5 stars for Carol, the agent! Waiting close to 2 hours in line is unacceptable although a customer rep stated its always this busy due to a holiday. The car was very smoky & the business was short staffed. The agent was nice, organized, efficient, polite & apologetic for the wait!
After arriving in PHL about an hour late, I was pretty disappointed to find a very long line of people waiting at Thrifty/Dollar to pick up their rental cars, with only 2 agents on duty. For some reason a few of the customers were at the counter for more than 15 minutes. The wait was about an hour, extending well past their 10:00pm closing time, at which time they locked the main entrance doors. Im not sure what customers who are delayed past that time are supposed to do.Luckily, most of the other people in line werent too annoyed, and we chatted amongst ourselves while we waited. As those of us at the end of the line neared the agents, it was clear that in spite of the late hour (past closing time) and stressful situation, both agents were still polite, friendly, and were working as efficiently as possible. So, no complaints about them! This alone is one of the reasons Im not giving this facility a worse rating. When it was finally my turn, I took the opportunity to ask the agent what the problem was - why there was such a long wait. She replied that it was just a normal Friday night. If thats really the case, why dont they bring in more agents? There were many more stations available. Alternatively, why doesnt Thrifty/Dollar have available the type of check-out that doesnt require standing in line and working with an agent (my rental was pre-paid, and they already had all my personal information - drivers license, insurance, refueling preferences, etc. - on file)?I understand that many industries are having problems with staffing these days, but there is much room for improvement here, and I will probably look at a different car rental agency the next time I need a car at PHL.
Absolutely horrendous experience. They have no system in place to rent cars. Showed up at noon for a car I had previously reserved and waited in line for 30 mins while 3 attendants shared a single walkie talkie with some other random person in the lot. You have to wait while they pick out a car and radio back in the license plate, and even once you’re “done” you have to wait an additional 15 mins outside while they gas up and clean the car. Honestly can’t believe this place is in business and will definitely not rent from thrifty again.
We used thrifty for our last two trips and both times the car we were given had an issue. They upgraded us both times for free for the hassle but it added a long wait to our vacation. Also, we had to wait FOREVER to check in at the beginning in both instances. It was about 45 minutes of waiting in line.Thrifty is good for the budget but not if youre in a hurry.
I will NEVER use this company again. I was in Hawaii for a wedding and needed a car. Thought “hey, I’m in Hawaii, maybe I’ll upgrade to a convertible” so I paid $150 to upgrade. As soon as I got to the hotel the car was making an awful noise. I tried to call thrifty customer service and I was on hold for 45 mins before I hung up because I had wedding stuff I had to do. The next day the ac also started making a crazy noise and the previous noise got worse to the point that it was embarrassing to drive around and I thought the car was going to break down. I called Thrifty again and after thirty minutes spoke to someone who said to switch the car out. I explained I was in town for a wedding and I was unable to do that because I was tied up with wedding activities. By the last day the engine light was on, the noise was unbearable, the ac was screaming and another noise popped up. When I left the rental pickup the car was in snow/ice mode…IN Hawaii. They obviously don’t check these cars. When I returned to drop the car off the manager was not helpful. She tried to give me a Thrifty voucher and basically said I should have returned the vehicle. I explained I couldn’t do that due to prescheduled plans. She said the mechanics would look at the car and I could have a voucher. I told her I didn’t want a voucher because I didn’t want to use the company again and she said I should be glad she was even offering that. After waiting for an hour on hold today I finally spoke to someone today and they too were no help. I will never use this company again and I recommend you do not either. It was supposed to be an upgrade and was an embarrassment to drive and safety hazard.
WORST SERVICE EVER --- NEVER EVER RENT FROM THEM!I am making a complaint about the third time I received UNACCEPTABLE service for the third time at the Philadelphia Airport Thrifty Location. For our first experience, we waited 30 minutes for a bus to pick us up at the airport shuttle location, and we waited in line for 1.5 hours during the afternoon. The manager encouraged us to join the blue chip program so that the next time we could skip the line and breeze through the rental car process because the Blue Chip program would do all of the standard questions/payments upfront during our reservation before arriving. We joined the Blue Chip Program after that trip. For our second experience, we waited 30 minutes for a bus to pick us up at the airport shuttle location, and despite me being a Blue Chip member, they refused to honor the Blue Chip program because my wife made the reservation. They told us that Blue Chip Program must have the person who made the reservation, the credit card, and the blue-chip account linked to the same person, or else Thrifty would not provide the breeze through the process. For the third experience (last night), we arrived at the rental car shuttle stand and never saw a Thrifty bus for 25 minutes. We saw Budget, Hertz, and National rental car buses multiple times (3+ each). We used google maps and saw that the Budget Rental Car location was closest and decided to ride that bus. We had to walk 15 minutes from the Budget Rental Car location to the Thrifty Location when we arrived.Ultimately, saw a line with 40-50 people and only one person checking people in. We saw the blue-chip line and went there. I made the reservation, used my credit card, and I am the one who has the blue-chip account, so based on previous experiences, we should be good to go to breeze through the line based on the perks of the Blue Chip Program. When I was in line, the lady checking people in looked at me and said, we do not do Blue Chip here. I calmly asked why not, given there is a blue chip line? She replied, because when we have a line of 30+ people, we do not honor the program. I asked to speak with a manager, and he expressed we are short-staffed; therefore, we cannot honor the blue-chip program. Ive attached a screenshot of the Blue Chip program. We waited in line for 2 hours and finally got a vehicle. The check-in process took 2 minutes, given I had done all of the items before during reservation. Additionally, for the 2 hours, we were at Thrifty, we never saw a Thrifty Bus make an airport run. Therefore from 9:35 - 11:55, they never ran a bus. BE AWARE that you may be stranded if you ever rent from that thrifty location.I say all of this to express that Ive learned my lesson after three bad experiences to never rent from Thrifty again. I would consider extending that to their parent company Hertz, but I have not rented from them; therefore, I have to reserve judgment until I have a first-hand experience with that location. I would encourage anyone between Thrifty and any other company at the Philadelphia airport to always go with the other option.
Great prices, no frills. Dawn, the weekend manager on Sunday 12/13/20, was really helpful with a minor issue with the car I rented. Overall, really good customer service. Pickup and Drop off were super quick. Not sure why all the bad reviews. Sometimes car rental spots are busy, sometimes they’re not. if you’re renting from thrifty and you leave a bad review, you were expecting too much. Ask for the help the right way and they give it to you.
My mother and I pre paid for a vehicle at Thrifty/dollar at the Philadelphia Airport. The shuttle took 1 hour to get us since there are no drivers.Worse... we got to the rental location and were told We Have No Cars It was 9 pm and I dont know the area. I am driving 1.5 hours to take care of my mother and they shut the door on me.Stranded on the street with no car at night and my 97 year old mother is waiting for me.I can certainly not recommend this company.
Waited the longest for a shuttle from the airport, waited over an hour and half in a line to get to one of the 2 active desk associates, and Ive now been told well have to wait over another 45 minutes before the vehicle is brought out of the lot. The only star goes to the team in the back who cleaned the car. Literally the worst service Ive ever experienced in any consumer field, let alone car rentals.
My experience on 4/17/21 with Thrift rental car at the airport site connected to Dollar rental was horrible. The girl at the counter was very unprofessional and short with the customers. She was nasty for no reason as that was my first time coming to that site today. I was there between 8:30pm and 8:45pm. Needless to say I left and rented a car from Budget. I received professionalism and kindness there. Treating people with Dignity and Respect should be a requirement from all employees.
Rented a Kia which ran poorly and had noisy wheels or brakes. Limited my use of it and chose to borrow my sister’s car instead. Returned the car but had to use PA turnpike for approximately 15 miles along the way. Paid app 680 dollars for 10 day rental.2 weeks later I received a bill for rental car tolling in amount of $164.94.In sum, I payed an exorbitant fee for an unsafe car and then had to pay again for 10 times the actual toll.
Waited in line for THREE hours to get a car. What a waste of a day of our vacation. We will NEVER make the mistake of renting from here again. The little money saved was not worth it. And while in line I called customer service, they would not let me cancel the reservation. Bad mistake of paying in advance to save a buck. 😣
My experience was a great one.I have to say I was very worried after reading the reviews I tried to change companies but because it was booked through a third-party I couldn’t do that it was too close to the date I was needing the car. The driver was waiting for me at the airport not only took me to the car rental but explain to me how; when I return the car to come into the airport what signs to follow where to go in.I walked in the door gave them my drivers license my credit card and was out of there within 5 minutes on return it was just as quick and easy, The whole experience with Thrifty was wonderful thank you so much.
We landed at the airport and went outside to await our shuttle. We waited 35 minutes and it never came. We called, and spoke to a human that wasn’t even in the same state. Needless to say, they didn’t know when the shuttle was coming. We decided to walk—it ended up being a quick 5 minutes. When we arrived, 3 shuttles were idling outside the building, with no intentions of moving. The line was 6 people long and we waited 2+ hours as they moved the speed of a glacier. Spend an extra $20 and rent from someone else.
Landed at 6:35, no shuttle (every other company had a shuttle) so we walked to the location. When we got there, an employee came up to us and said we had to stand on the street and wait til 7am. We were not allowed to sit on the benches outside the building, they literally made us stand a foot away from semi trucks for 15 minutes. At 7am, they let us inside and no one was at the counter. A few minutes later, a person walked in, went behind the counter and said they would need a few minutes to get settled. The person was nice when they helped us but the procedure was still terrible.
I am discussed by this place and the employee and manager that humiliated my girlfriend and I at this location. I was miss treated, spoken to like 2nd class citizens and told I was not allowed to pick up the rental that was PRE PAID, with a valid US Florida Drivers license and was told this was “company policy”.They said temporary licenses are not accepted yet on the company policy states:section L “Drivers License” United States Citizens and U.S. Military Personnel: A renter or any additional authorized driver who is a citizen of the United States, must present at the time of rental:sub section 2.(2) a temporary drivers license, valid for the entire rental periodAfter an hour and 23 min waiting in a line I was called up by a poor quality employee who: as I had my Amex card I used to prepay for the rental along with my valid Florida DL she said- please leave my line I can’t rent you a car. No sorry, apply for the wait and no explanation! A few other customers in line come up to see why this was happing but I she said I had to leave. I was left speechless. The “manager” an older white male said that Philadelphia does not allow “people like me to rent cares” I’ve traveled here often as much of my family is in Philly and have never had a problem renting a car before.I felt so discriminated as the employees spoke louder almost as they where attempting to embarrass us. To top this all of it was my girlfriends birthday the reason we where in town was to celebrate with the family.I called AmEx as soon as I was told to find somewhere or “take a bus” as they told me I needed to “leave the counters” and would not refund me my money! I am now disputing the charge as as they did not refund me nor allow me to take the car I paid for and have all the legal rights to do so according to companies policy.
Returned a weekly rental two days early (and was thanked for it as they were short on cars). then got an email saying because i returned it early, the rate would be adjusted... and was charged $100 more.the new charge was still a weekly rate and for the same time period.called to dispute and was told they had to adjust because i returned early... but the rate was adjusted for the same time weekly time frame... just for $100 more.
The managers special was definitely special. We received the smallest car in the fleet (two babies in carseats). When I picked the car up the interior was dirty. You can see things that were spilled on the seats and never cleaned. I asked if they knew the car was dirty and they said they cleaned it. We later noticed that the brake light and left turn light was blown out.
This thrifty turned into a humanitarian crisis. Over 100 people standing in the sun waiting to get a car. I had kids with me and thankfully we still had water from the plane, but others were not as lucky. We waited 3 hours to get a car we had reserved months in advance. It threw off our whole schedule. I called customer service, who were unable to help at all.
Worst customer service and experience of any service I have ever received. I called to check the hours and was told this location was opened 24 hours. On Maps it says open from 6am until midnight. I went to return my car at 10pm and the return lane was blocked off by buses! I had to drive over an hour and a half to return the car just to find out they werent even open. Im still confused about the hours and STILL havent been able to return my call while writing this.Calling the number just reroutes you to a service pool where I received very conflicting advice from CSR Mark. He was not confident in any response and kept directing me to the roadside assistance hotline number just to get me off the call. I was on hold with roadside assistance for over an hour and didnt have the time to wait any longer.Ultimately, I blame myself for not doing the research ahead of time. I caution ANYONE who thinks the low rental prices might be worth it. If I had went with a different service from the beginning I probably could have avoided this emotional and financial stress and returned the car at a convenient time without the red tape.Zero Stars if I could, NEVER AGAIN!
I will NEVER rent from Thrifty again. The holds they put on your card are ridiculously high. The customer service is terrible. The lady at the desk changed my one-way rental to a round-trip rental, which made me have to pay an additional change fee. This company find every possible way to nickel and dime you to death. Just because it seems like a cheaper rate than their competitors does not mean you are getting a better deal. Bite the bullet and pay a little extra for a better rental car company.
Renting from Thrifty at PHL was probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced--I cannot overemphasize how appalling and miserable this experience was. We reserved a car weeks in advanced and paid in full expecting to be able to pick up our car at the airport and be on our way. Instead, we showed up and had to wait for THREE HOURS outside the rental office in 95 degree heat. There were many elderly folks in line who were clearly struggling with the heat and on the verge of passing out. Tensions were also extremely high among the hundred plus furious customers and at several points the line seemed on the verge of breaking down into an angry mob. The employees working inside were professional and did their best to keep the line moving but they were simply massively understaffed, which IMO suggests a systemic issue with this entire company and how they treat their staff. I understand there is a nationwide labor shortage and it is easy to chalk an experience like this up to nOBoDY wAnTS tO wOorK, but IMO if you PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES A FAIR WAGE then they will WANT to show up to work and you will not have a ridiculous situation like this on your hands. Shame on you Thrifty, never again.
Been standing in line for over an hour. The reps appear to have never rented a car before. The paperwork has been completed and the rental paid for online, why does it take 15 mi. Per person. This is ridiculous. Or here is a novel idea, look at the number of rentals scheduled in the day and staff appropriately?
Bad business,,bad business,, bad business.. I wish I had clearances I would upload the picture of the mile long line of customer standing outside waiting to get in. No representative has come out yet to address the delays. People have been waiting for 2 hours, We waited 45 minutes waiting for the shuttle to pick us up from the airport.
Reserved a car on a Monday evening for that Friday night. I landed, waited on a shuttle for 45 minutes only to jump on an avis shuttle to find out thrifty had closed for the night without any notice. I was told they close at 11:30 although I was in their parking lot at 11. There was also another couple in the same situation as me, trying to get a car from thrifty. I had to go order a car from avis to fix my situation. That’s not good business thrifty.
Got scammed for extra insurance. Watch out!I told the representative I didn’t want insurance, and then one minute later she asked “bare bones or comprehensive?”, to which I replied “bare bones”. Less than a minute later, I was being rushed out the door. I didn’t realize I got the extra insurance until later.I went back there the following morning, and was was told I had signed a contract and there was no way out of it. I was told I could come back in a couple hours to talk to the manager, but that it would be “very busy”.Recommend a different, more reputable place.
The car was fine, but a terrible experience finishing my booking and and picking it up.Details:-Shuttle from terminal in Philadelphia airport took forever (>25 minutes)-It was unclear that Dollar and Thrifty shared a shuttle-Long lines and extremely slow service when picking up the car-Frustrating, dishonest hard sell of extras from the customer service agent at the counter-Car had a previous renters water bottle rolling around in it - how clean are they really?I was lured in by the low price quoted online, but I will not be renting from Thrifty again. The price advantage is nearly wiped out by the extras and fees pushed at the counter, and the experience is so poor that it isnt worth it anyway.
Thrifty Car Rental customer service at time of Rental told me I could either fill the tank or if I dont, they will just charge market price for gas and it will be billed to me. Yes, I signed rental agreement thinking it was an either or option... I brought the car back w a max full tank and they still charged me an additional $40. This little car, if out of gas wouldnt even take $30 to fill it. The customer service at time of drop off was quick to move me on (bitter/sweet) she said she would take care of noting car had full tank- I took a picture of full tank but they still charged the additional fee.Secondly, we were in Oregon on vacation during wild fires a customer service rep literally hung up on me when I inquired about optional drop off locations, due to road closures and state of emergency. If she did not have the answers, she could have transferred me accordingly.Long story, sorry but I will spend extra money for better service. I dont mind, if warranted, not scammed.
Completely under staffed. Do not think you are saving money because you will wait 5 hours for your car. YES 5 hours, most of you think Im exaggerating. I truly wish I was. I would cancel my reservation, but then I would be stranded at the Philadelphia Airport. Save yourself from this despicable company and use literally any other one.
I’ve been waiting in line now for over and hour. The desk attendants keep running in and out while a line of us stand here wondering how much longer we’re going to have to stand here. No one’s offering an explanation at all. No one even knows what they’re doing. They’re booking rates are higher than reserved rates online. We’re being handed keys without inspection while a group of employees stands outside chatting. Still no manager in sight.I will NEVER use this car rental service again. I have a three hour drive ahead of me. Use Hertz or Enterprise. This place is a joke.
First off it states in the rental agreement that they may charge a $200 deposit but when I got there they wanted $500 deposit then they said they couldnt rent to me due to a poor credit rating which isnt true ...Ive rented several times and have never had my credit checked ...mind you they never asked if they could run my credit they just did it...also the rental was all ready pre paid before I even left for my trip...
I rented a car from thrifty through southwest. I was told a specific amount would be due at the time I picked up the car. After waiting in line for an hour & a half (with a 5 month old) i was told there was my initial payment plus a $200 safety deposit. This was not previously mentioned when I went to rent it online. There was only 2 people working the front desk, 1 of which was a trainee. The customer service & attitude was appalling. After finally being done with the 2 front desk people we waited another 25 minutes for our car. We were given the keys & that was it. No inspection was completed & no form signed. When we left the line at the desk was out the door. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the drop off experience was much easier. I will never use thrifty again & will be reading reviews closely whenever I rent through southwest.
Hidden fees and unexpected charges. Car we originally selected was not available and I did not feel the car I was provided was of similar value. Whole process was not transparent; we ended up paying over twice as much as we originally expected based on the quoted price of the car. I didnt like that we had to pre-pay for the gasoline in the vehicle; we had to pay $50 for a full tank of gas when gas prices were significantly lower than that in the area. We also did not use a full tank of gas so we ended up paying for gas we didnt use. They were also very unclear with insurance fees. Shuttle service was extremely sparse and we had to wait a very long time for a shuttle from the airport. A $200 deposit was charged to our card but we were never informed of this beforehand. When we called about this problem customer service was very rude and condescending. Needless to say we will NEVER be booking with Thrifty again.
Never rent from here!! We got there at 3:30 on a Friday and did not leave until 5:30 and that was with a confirmed reservation. The line was so long and they had trainees behind the desk. When we finally got to the front of the line, they gave us a car that didn’t exist so we had to go back inside. Then they gave us a car that wasn’t close to ready. At this point we had been patient but we have a 14 month old who, after a long flight and now waiting 2 hours in a cramped and crowded car rental office was understandably not happy. When my wife asked Kristin, one of the workers, where our car was, Kristin replied, ‘I’m going to move to the next customer who is not snappy!’ Are you kidding me?! You guys don’t know how to do your job and then insult the customer who was waiting patiently!? Oh when we finally got into a car, the gas tank was a quarter full and they claimed it was a full tank on our contract. Unbelievable! Never again!
I found an incredible deal through Hotwire for a compact or better vehicle at this location, and went in half expecting one of their more basic vehicles. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Nissan Rogue which offered me great mileage through my trip. Best part of my reservation was the return process. Their agent, Paul, who saw me by myself with a kid in a car seat, asked us to stay in the car and dropped us off directly at the airport instead of having us haul our luggage and car seat off and onto the airport shuttle. Customer service and thoughtful service at its best!
Under no circumstance should I be obligated to provide my SSN and a $500 deposit. I was turned away because my company booked the vehicle but the card on file failed to have my name on it. Just the company name. Its a company card.Do yourself the biggest favor and socially avoid them like the plague they are.
I’d give them 0 stars if possible. Customer service was awful. They waited until we reached the front desk to tell us that there are no more cars available (hour and a half later). How do you run out of cars when there is a line wrapping around your building waiting for one?Horrible
Interestingly enough, I am not surprised at the poor rating and reviews this location is getting. I was overcharged with regard to a fuel charge for a rental in early February 2020. I have been on the phone multiple times with customer service since then and they continue to tell me the charge was valid. It is my word against theirs. I admit I returned the vehicle with 7/8 tank of gas, which is also what the rental agent wrote on their notes. However, I was charged for 4/8 of a tank of gas. I would not trust the employees nor patronize this corporation - they are fraudulently overcharging customers and the customer has very little recourse. Bad Bad Bad Thrifty!!
Would I rent here again? No doubt. Be aware that the location is a good distance from the airport and there also seem to be less frequent shuttles than some of the other rental places. Some staff members were nice and professional, others seemed to care less about their job. But when I rent a car, I really care about having a car at a decent price, and with that in mind, I couldnt have asked for more.
Been waiting for an hour here for pickup. Seen about 5 customers drive off with their cars in the hour we’ve been here. The line is wrapped around and jam packed to the brink (so much for social distancing). Doesn’t seem like they have any interest in getting people a car with any amount of speed.
If there is a zero I would rated a zero. Waited in line forever to start. Did not give us the car we originally ordered he was like a Mickey mouse car so tiny. had to wait to get it upgraded to but we originally ordered that was charged even more. Went through several tolls in Florida with no Booth to pay at it automatically charges you and send you a bill in the mail we were never offered anything to pay ahead of time no EZ pass, at the time we purchased a car. We got bills in the mail from them, when we called about it we still have to pay a penalty.I will never rent from them again. I had no problem having to pay the toll I dont think I should have been penalized and pay an extra fee of about $75 on top of the toll. This is a scam. Be very careful if you ever do business consider doing business with thrifty they are not worth it
As a recent Thrifty Blue Chip member, I was blown away by how responsive and courteous this location was. The desk clerk was friendly, efficient, and acknowledged my loyalty club status. My car and paperwork were both waiting for me (and the car was excellent). When I returned the flight, I had a similar experience. I was late for my flight, and arrived just as the courtesy van was pulling away. Imagine my surprise when a staff member immediately offered to drive me over.Really, a very positive experience. A tiny bit further from the airport than some of the other rental car companies--but well worth it.
Dishonest and unprofessional. I asked for an upgrade to a minivan. They “slipped in” a satellite radio to the receipt for the duration of the rental which I didn’t ask for nor did the representative tell me about. After a long day I didn’t check the receipt till the next day. Called their service number who said I have to go back to the airport. After I spoke with 7 representatives and 2 supervisors for one hour the issue was not resolved. Crazy...
Horrible experience. As mentioned in other reviews, we never got picked up at the airport by a thrifty shuttle. We waited for over 40 minutes and saw other car rental shuttles pass by several times. We tried calling the number on their website, but could not reach them over the phone. When I talked to somebody on a national thrifty line, they too had trouble trying to reach the thrifty rental place. We ended up having to take a cab to get there since it was about to close for the evening. The agent apologized and as a courtesy offered to deduct the cost of the cab fare from our rental, but since we prepaid for the rental he couldnt do so. Therefore, he offered to waive the cost of fuel upon return of the vehicle. We were satisfied with that and left.Fast forward two weeks - I get a letter from Thrifty stating that I am getting charged for not putting gas into the car when I returned it.Long story short - dont use Thrifty.
The staff were fine but the place itself was chaotic. Manager was helpful. There was no handicap spaces to park while returning your vehicle. My partner drove into the little to get me as I cant walk far and we were given a hard time for bringing a personal vehicle on to the lot. The security guard wasnt ride or anything, just doing her job but thrifty needs to do better for disabled people.
The car was great and clean. But gave a 2 cause they added an insurance package that carried a charge without informing me of the cost. After returning the car, they said I used the product and couldnt remove the cost.Check your bill, the signature page is printed behind 5 blank pages, so you dont accidentally see the charge they added.
Sharon was awesome. Although they didnt have the car we reserved, she offered us a great upgrade for same price which ended up coming in very handy. The new procedure of dropping you off at the terminal with your luggage is ingenious. Would definitely rent a car there again-everyone was friendly and helpful.
I rent cars so i can do business as a uber/amazon driver. Avis/Uber rental was the worst experience ever so i had to find another rental company. Thrifty really came through and made me feel welcomed and valued. The car was totally clean and that help relieve some of the covid19 roller coaster business instability stress that im currently dealing with. I joined the rewards program that was offered at the beginning of the rental process. There was no hidden fees everything was explained upfront. My counter support was so friendly and greeted me with the smile that i needed at the time. When i left the brother asked to see my agreement then welcomed me with pleasure to Thrifty. Thrifty during covid19 was great with the smooth transactions and health precautions taking seriously. i love the integrity of the company and look forward to renting with Thrifty in the future.
I am outrage with the service that the agent served me. I came in on Friday to pick up a rental that I reserved just to tell me they have no cars and there nothing they can do about it. Thank God enterprise came through for me or I would have been stranded. I do not recommend this place at all...
Very very poor service at this location. The lady was very rude and coughing flem all over the place. Truly disgusting! Then gave me attitude cause I didnt want her holding my i.d. but still demanded i hand it over. Next day I had a fever and coughing. Go figure you b!@%# I told you were sick. The manager is worse!! Manager didnt care for my safety or anyone else there during these times.
Upon arrival I watched the shuttle driver sitting in the back of the line of shuttles for 30 minutes while numerous shuttles dropped off and picked up customers. Eventually I had to walk over and flag him down so that he could pick up myself and other awaiting customers. When I arrived I was not pleasantly greeted and was basically given attitude by the rental car agent as she wrote up my ticket. I signed up for special vehicle in hops of getting a nice upgrade, however, I was put into a compact car and never offered an upgrade. The first vehicle I was placed in had a broken air vent. I asked to be switched and was placed into the same type of vehicle which smelled like smoke and was not sufficiently cleaned. To make matters worst as a compact chevy sonic online it states it should get 38 highway miles. However, I filled up the vehicle 3 times in five days and only travel 821 miles. I took a picture of the reading that stated the car was only getting an average of 19mpg even though 85% of my driving was all highway. In addition the vehicle door was not sealed correctly as I heard a loud whistling while driving up and down the highway and thought the driver door was going to swing open. When I returned nobody asked how my experience was, even though it was horrible. The main reason I feel the need to complain is because in the last year I have only rented from thrifty/dollar in Denver, Orlando, San Diego and San Francisco. This by far was the worst experience I ever had at Philadelphia. The staff do not represent the company positively, the vehicles are not up to par and I did not feel valued. I will for sure never rent a car from Thrifty at the Philadelphia airport ever again and I will not be renting from thrifty in general if I cant be refunded some of my money for the horrible experience.
Couldnt take the time to let us know about offsite after hours parking even after knowing we were going to drop the car off at 430 am. If we werent responsible adults we could have been late for our flight because the employees simply decided not to provide essential information. Apparently being courteous and intelligent is not a requirement of employment. Do not use!!
Took 30 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up. All other companies had 3-4 shuttles pass by within the same timeframe. There were about 25 people in the location when we arrived. We were in line for 40 minutes and were still waiting to reach the counter. Even though everyone in line reserved cars for the time frame we arrived, they didnt have them and Thrifty was waiting for cars to come in so the can clean them and give them out. An employee encouraged us to post negative reviews because the way the company is run is terrible. Not sure if this is just this location or all of them.Edit: Forgot to mention we missed a rehearsal dinner because of this situation.Edit 2: Still in line. Over an hour. 1.5 hours total so far. One woman is now crying.Edit 3: Took 1 hour 40 minutes to get our rental car. Longer than our flight from Cincinnati to Philadelphia. Multiple people left the line and walked to a different car rental company. The icing on top was the checkout documentation said our car was given to us with a full gas tank. It was just a little over half full of gas.Edit 4: I reached out to Thrifty via the email address they posted, 5 days later, no response.Edit 5: I was contacted by Thrifty and they addressed my situation. They credited my account a portion of the total and were very open to my feedback. They called and assured me that they were going to forward my comments regarding the exemplary employees to the branch.
Ive been standing in here for over 2 hours. The line has barely moved at all.How is this business still open?WHY is there only ONE person working when there are over 50 customers waiting for a service they paid for? This has been the WORST business experience I have yet to come across. The reviews don’t do it justice. This situation really is that bad.
Waited in line for about an hour and a half... saw several employees go back and forth. There were original 3 employees checking clients... saw 6 now theres only 2 working with clients. It makes no sense why management doesnt just have everyone out to kill this line... the line is now even longer than It was when I first got in.. still waiting in line as we speak
Poor service on pick up, girl at the counter was more interested in getting back to her cell phone than dealing with customers - cold, no smile and completely impersonal. Was promised a ride back to the airport when we returned the car, but they dropped the ball there too and we had to ride the bus. You guys really got to get better at customer service and following through on what you say youre going to do. Car was otherwise fine except we asked for a car with cruise control and didnt get one. Didnt have time to argue the issue.
I rented the car from this location many a times and I found the rates are cheaper and consistent. Their cars always smells like new and staff is friendly. You will pick up your car within a few minutes and their shuttle service is great with higher frequency of pick and drop from the airport. I will always rent from them.
So Im a blue chip member and been renting from this location for 2 years or so and never had a problem but just recently with the new staff that is untrained first I returned my vehicle on full when I got my receipt and there was a 100 refuel charge took me 2 weeks to get a refund. Went to pick up my rental today and first couldnt find my rental reservation had to explain but to no help didnt get my Rental so I had to cancel my weekend. Please retrain this staff and managment
If I could give this place a zero...I would! This location is closed. When we got there (by way of uber) there was a sign on the door that sends you to dollar rental...Jaws open. We called the numbers listed on door and no one answered. Lucky the boss pulls up to inform us of whats going on. He got on the phone and chewed them out for not answering. Then told them to send a shuttle for us. Ok we are in the clear. I WISH!! We get to dollar rental and they only take credit cards, which is fine because we were prepared. My husband is at the counter and they are like swipe your CHIP card. Long story short..... Swipe doesnt work on our card and they have no chip reader. So no car from there. Alllll that and nooo car!!!!
Thee WORST... everything was fine until the vehicle was returned. I was charged an extra day of coverage, and they gave me an unruly up-charge on gas for something they screwed up and then you can’t even get in contact with the branch, it’s only outsourced call centers which are extremely unhelpful. Then, to add injury to insult, I emailed all of the documentation I have and outlined a few of the discrepancies and they’re still telling me that they can’t do anything for me.NEVER AGAIN
The service at this pick up location was horrible. Felt like we were inconveniencing the attendant to do her job and we got there when it was NOT busy. She disappeared and left us standing at the counter for over 30 minutes while our rental car sat outside ready and waiting 15 minutes after she walked away, with no instruction from her letting us know it was ours. She had left to find us a car since they did not have what we reserved many weeks ago. She never did a car check walk with us to note that theres no gas cap, slight odor and car not fully cleaned. This rental car experience was bad and I usually give good reviews. Also, while she disappeared, it became busy and I felt sorry for the only other attendant who became slammed with customer check ins. Wheres the management at this location????On a positive note.....drop off was easy and the shuttle experience, coming and going, was great.
Easy of check-in at San Diego Airport was great BUT DO NOT purchase the gas option!!! We were told that we wouldnt be charged for the gas option IF we brought the car back full and that even if we brought the car back with a 1/2 tank we would only be charged for the 1/2 tank to fill it. THIS WAS NOT TRUE!!! We brought the car back full and was STILL charged $50 and Thrifty told me that this was a set price whether we brought the car back full or not. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! Not to mention the car was FILTHY absolutely FILTHY with chicken nuggets and cookies on the floor in the back.
I rented a car from this place and it was returned in perfect condition. My cat didnt want to get out of the trunk and they refused to let me return it without getting him out. He obviously needed to stay in the trunk, so I just got an Uber and drove to the airport. I have no idea what happened to that cat but they did finally accept the car as returned and charged a nominal pet stocking fee ($40). I heard that cat is doing better than ever and I got back from my business trip safely. Happiest Easter ever.
Go elsewhere. We arrived at the airport and stood at the bus stop waiting for the shuttle. A different company that had already passed by once, offered a ride because Thrifty couldnt be bothered. When we got there the cranky man behind the counter didnt help. Car was prepaid, but when I showed up, I was told I had to get a credit report to use a bank card. Then was informed that my card wasnt good enough, and I needed a credit card. I asked if that means I cant get a rental, and the guy behind the counter just stared at me. Couldnt care less how I felt. Luckily my wife had a card we could use, However we had to pay extra for a second driver because it was in my name not hers. What a scam. Pay a couple dollars more and go with a company that cares.
Terrible service. The employees didnt explain everything and always seemed lost. They also need to be clear on the drop car off process. They kept telling me to move the car but no one directed me where to go in the first place. It seemed cheap but we ended up paying a lot more that we expected. I have rented a coupe of cars before and never had a bad experience till I came here.
If I could leave 0 stars I would! We rented a car for 7 people and were given a car for 6! When we said we wouldn’t fit they told us that’s all they had! We already paid so they wouldn’t refund us! We had to go to enterprise to rent another car so our family could travel together! We also waited over an hour for the car to be cleaned! They people working there are all miserable and no help! They are all over the place and very unorganized! We also were charged to extra days and a late fee! Try to call them and ask why and they don’t answer! Worst place to rent from not worth saving 20$ at all! They add on fees and have zero customer service skills!!! Stay Away!!
Hello, this review was not intentional. I was picking a rental car up from Thrifty and in the process must have brushed some buttons on my phone and prematurely rated 2 stars. So far everything has actually been closer to 5 stars. Very quick and easy pickup and the car is nice. I will complete this review when I return the car to Philadelphia.
It was a fast, pick up and return of a Chevrolet Sonic. From shuttle service pickup at Philadelphia Airport my rental experience went smooth. I was immediately helped upon arrival at the rental. My car was waiting for me. The return of car and shutte to the terminal went just as well. Thank you Thrifty Car Rental.
I got dinged for Fuel pre-purchase option despite instructing that I would pay for my own gas and return with a full tank. Pretty annoying to have wasted my time and money doing this when it is as sneakily added on despite specifically stating otherwise. Aside from that the new service of ride to the airport in vehicle (instead of waiting for shuttle) was nice and unexpected.
The rental experience was fine - no frills, but no big problems either. Pretty much a get-what-you-pay-for experience. The negatives are that they didnt have the type vehicle we had reserved (but that happens often at the end of the day). Also, their shuttle bus doesnt run as frequently as the bigger services, so you have to wait a bit longer.
Thanks to Dominique my experience at this facility was very good. Though I reserved a certain vehicle, the initial representative provided me with vehicle from a lower tier. After sensing my disappointment Dominique took the time to explain why i was provided the car of their choosing. After explaining why I needed the vehicle I reserved, Dominique carefully listened and followed up with her colleagues and went out of her way to make things right.Thank you for your excellent service, and customer care, I truly appreciate it.
Additional insurance charges were added and I was never made aware of them. I should have caught the charges on the bill. The basic plan cost double the actual daily price of the car. Then there are the toll administration fees. Ended up going through two toll plate gates by accident and got charged this fee for each one. My total bill is double what I expected so far and I havent even returned the car yet. Ill be using Enterprise from now on.
I lost my wallet -- left it on the counter while checking in. They called right way, left a message on my cell and I returned within an hour. Very appreciative of their quick response and honesty. Also, the car was great, and quick in and out. Counter to shuttle people very friendly. I will definitely use them again.
I did not have one single issue when renting with Thrifty. Used them when I too a trip out to Philadelphia recently. Didnt wait more than 20 minutes for the shuttle to get to the airport to pick us up, and getting the rental was quick and painless. Car was nice and clean, exactly what I needed. The drop off procedure is also quick and painless, and the shuttle was there waiting to take me to the airport. No complaints whatsoever and would highly recommend.
This company was good to me. I had a nice car. It did have small prior damage to it. Which I didnt realize until I got home. However , I did let them know once I returned it and they didnt try to get one over on me.So! with that being said, It was good enough for Me.
My wife and I had a frustrating experience at the Philly airport Thrifty. Im willing to admit we could have done more research. Regardless, the company has deceptive price listings and unclear online booking. Our price total wasnt made available until days after we returned the car.The customer service was satisfactory in Philadelphia. My wife and I added a driver in D.C. The worker at Ronald Reagan airport was great! Courteous and funny. The car was good (Nissan Rogue) it ran well, but anything compared to the car I own is great so... Car drop off in Philly was confusing without any real explanation, signs, or guidance.I wont knock the employees or cars themselves but there are PLENTY of cheaper and more transparent companies than Thrifty.
Very fast service, friendly staff and a selection of cars you can chose from. I got my rental pricing through Expedia along with my flight. A great discounted price and for $10/day you get full coverage insurance for the vehicle. Quick check in and quick check out and without hidden fees.
Apparently if youre under 25 they charge you a ton of extra fees because they can. Age discrimination, yes. Instead of checking your driving record they charge you for being under 25. Nobody at this facility seems to know what theyre talking about, I called them on different occassions and everybody I talked to told me totally different information and prices...what? I returned my car and they attempted to try and charge me an extra $200 dollars than they said it would be. Blame it on lack of training. These idiots that work here are truly clueless and helpless. Will not be returning. What a joke. I may as well have put a down payment on a new car than pay the rediculous prices that this company tried to swindle me out of. Train your damn employees better. Quit telling customers faulty information.
Very poor service starting with a website that has no problem taking your money when you make a reservation and ending with a battle at the front desk that resulted in not getting a car and only getting reimbursed half of your reservation money by a 3rd party thrifty hires to handle their issues. And our company that rented the car was a blue chip member! I recommend using Hertz instead
They put a huge charge on my card as a deposit. They did not refund it yet. Their billing department has limited hours. They basically got to use $350 of my money for days for free. I have not resolved the issue yet so they still have my money. This is the biggest rip-off in the book. Also they would not give me any information on where to get gas near the airport. Pay a little extra and use a reputable company.
A friend and I rented a car here and as far as the car, lease price, and shuttle service, everything was great. However, I left under the impression that some of the staff here is not well informed or are trying to take advantage of visitors. For instance, we were planning to drive to NYC and come back after, and the person that took care of us was very pushy towards selling us toll tags for a ridiculous amount of money. She assured us that that it was our best option and that if we did not buy these tags from them we would end up paying the same in cash on our way there and coming back. Fortunately we did not buy the toll tags and only payed $10 for the whole round trip by paying in cash. If we were misinformed on purpose I think this kind of practice is unacceptable and makes the company look very untrustworthy from customers point of view.
Will not use Thrifty again. I received 3 separate charges from this company 2 months later of renting the car. Toll usage and charges that were not explained to me properly, when I have and brought my own EZ-pass. $63 charge. Then another violation ($130). I travel all the time and have never had this many violations. I will not be renting from them again. I would not recommend them to people who need to rent a car. This has not ever happen when I used Enterprise Car Rental.
Just a heads up that the THRIFTY sign is missing, and it only says BUDGET (I think, thats the company they co-share with). Googlemaps will get you there but, again, the sign is unmarked. And you know this is a big deal at a car drop off, particularly once you go over those no-backup treads. The Philly airport is like a 3 mile loop, so if you miss your turn, you have to go all the way around again. Anyway, after nearly missing my flight, and flying into the lot late they took pity on me, waived one small fee, and rushed me to the terminal. I barely caught my flight. So, 4 stars for the staff handling returns and the shuttle driver. I cant speak to the folks inside since this was a one-way rental from DCA.
Its not the people at the counters faults, but this place was taking about 10 minutes per person, you cant jump the line with a reservation, and then some 20 people got into the line after me. I would die if I had been the last in that line... They only had one person working the counter initially, and then another person joined.
Prices are reasonable but I book through Expedia because the prices are cheaper and you can purchase the insurance at a cheaper rate if you dont want to use your own. They literally provide you with a car in minutes and the return process is speedy. I tend to need a vehicle at night on the weekends so my rental location options are limited and I dread the thought of having to go into the airport so the off site location is great and is affiliated with the airport so you get 24hr service. I dont lik the airport concession fee of $8 but its convenient.
Fantastic!!!! Ive rented cars from various companies at Philly and BWI and there is no comparison. The car was clean inside and out, but the staff - outstanding! Genuinely nice, thoughtful employees. When we were running late, one gentleman got us back to our terminals quickly and efficiently - we made our flights! Thanks!!!!
I wish I could give them, zero stars. Pathetic service they charged me 10/g for fuel, useless staff they did not even ready to listen to anything they simply do not know how to talk to customers I am never using Thrifty for renting a car again. NEVER USE THRITY CAR RENTAL PLASE!!!! PAY SOME EXTRA MONEY AND GO FOR ANY OTHER
If I could give a “ZERO” star I would!!! I recently rented a vehicle from this location. About 15 minutes after returning our vehicle I realized we left 2 of our TABLET’S in our rental behind both the driver and passenger seat! I immediately tried to call (on our way to the airport) and had no way to get in touch directly with this location! I then called customer service and filed a “Lost & Stolen” claim!!! I called back everyday since and still they have “not found” our Tablets.....this blows my mind because I know exactly where they were in the car!!!! Now they are saying my case has been closed....so your telling me you guys can just take MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS and close my case without any type of refund??????? This is HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
We rented a car online to pick up here and the office was closed. Called multiple customer service numbers and no help. After an hour of standing around and calling, we had to move on the another rental place. Ive rented from thrifty before and never had a problem, but I doubt Ill be going back again after this experience
Customers standing in line...one customer stated she had been there for 2 hrs. Dollar and Thrifty arent worth the time spent wasted standing in line after traveling half a day. For now on I will go with Hertz. My last three experiences have been the worst that Ive experienced in 40 years of traveling.
We rented online for a car at the Thrifty car rental at the airport. The reason I have given it a 2 star is that when we called because our flight was 3 hours late, they confirmed that the rental company was open until 12:30am. We called two more times from the Philly airport because the shuttle did not come by for over 40 minutes but we waited as Enterprise, Avis, etc all came by. Finally the Budget rental shuttle bus driver told us that the Thrifty rental booth was closed! (We had just called and the main number said it was fine!) So then the Budget driver took us to the Budget rental car at the airport and they honored our reservation. So, ultimately, we got our car, great price, no complaints there but the people on the phone were useless and lied. Beware if you arrive late.
Rental process was smooth and turn in of the vehicle was the best part.... Very kind and helpful. Word of warning, when listening to the rental guy to assign your vehicle and so on, pay attention because you could agree to extras and not realize it. Your best defense, does that cost more? To eveything they ask...tolls, extra driver, insurance, gas, Navi, etc...
In the first car I received the tire pressure sensor was illuminated and I requested that they add air to the tires as required. They couldnt perform that simple service at the location, so my only option waa a different car. When I asked the agent why the first car was allowed to be rented with a defect she said replied that she just rented the cars. The second car I received had been smoked in, 35000 miles, and had the rear window left down on a rainy night. I decided just to take this car fearing that a replacement would be much worse. I pulled up to the gate kiosk to leave and waited 5 minutes. The windows were blacked out so that you couldnt see if anyone was inside. As it turns out nobody was in the kiosk and I had to go back inside to request help. Also as other reviews have stated it is the furthest rental agency from the airport, and the streets were not well lit.
Long line in Philadelphia and only 1 person working at counter !?!? Also issues with car AC and VERY POOR customer service. And finally, Thrifty could not offer an exchange vehicle within 2 hours of my destination!!! The entire trip that I was on was 2 hours from airport. How can they offer rental vehicles to places they don’t cover ?.
Slightly off from airport but they do have shuttle service. Their online rates are excessively low but they try to cover it with service charges which are optional, like insurance charges, Ezpass charges, fuel charges etc. Overall my experience was very smooth with them and they are open extended hours.
Have been waiting in line for about an hour at Thrifty Philly airport location. One person checking people. Incredibly slow. And when you finally get to the front, there are no cars available and you have to continue to wait for them to get a car in for you and then wait longer to clean it. Horrible management
I got a great rate through travelocity booking with delta airfare...but it was shortlived from the time i got to the desk. For starters, the woman behind the counter asked if i wanted insurance which i declined. She asked if i wanted easy pass, i declined. I was in a hurry being on a plane all day with 2 impatient children that just wanted to see their grandmom. i soon realized that they gave me the easy pass thing anyways so whatever fine. i used it. That ended up costing me $127 which is roughly double what my actual tolls were. After the trip they charged me for insurance to the tune of $35 per day...that was over $350 and more than the rental itself! The woman behind the counter took advantage of me being distracted with my kids and added that too....i signed the agreement without taking the hour to read the fine print. When i called the offer was to pay half of it...which tells me it happens often and half is still good. I explained the situation and that i declined the insurance or i wouldnt be calling..obviously. So i turned down the half off and spoke to a supervisor. She was quick to say theres nothing she can do blah blah. I called their corporate office, spoke to a nice woman there who had my account refunded in less than 10 minutes. Always call the corp office, dont trust the sneaky staff behind the counter...they make extra off insurance and extras. i cant wait to go back to philly, i will use them again just to walk into that office and have a nice conversation with whoever i get.
We did a reservation to rent a car because we decided to do a vacation, we went to the thrifty place and they cancelled our reservation without our consent and refused to give us a car when we payed our full amount through our reservation. Don’t waste your time renting a car here.
Tried to give me a totally different vehicle than I paid for - a full size suv rather than a midsize. This larger suv takes more gas and is way bigger than I am comfortable driving. The girl at the counter was contentios and rude saying they didnt have the model I booked when one was parked right next to the other. The manager was okay and sort of tried to help. Still was majorly delayed.
Stay away from this place. Terrible, mismanaged rental car location. Understaffed, overworked employees, long wait, no cars in the class I rented, after an hour wait time we got a scratched up Toyota Camry with 26,500 miles and a check engine, maintenance needed light on.I rented through Hotwire.
Terrible experience and would never use Thrifty again. Waited 20 minutes for shuttle from airport and then two showed up at once. Then waited one hour in line because only two agents to serve at least 20 customers. Then, after signing contract am now waiting more time (20 minutes so far) for the agent to get us a car while the other agent was sending people behind us in line out for cars right away.
Read some negative reviews and was concerned about using this location, made sure I had all my ducks in a row so there would be no surprises regarding pricing or what was expected of me (i.e. refueling, amount of credit card hold etc.). and I am so grateful I trusted the most recent reviews and went with it because they were great- no line, in and out in less than 10 mins, same thing with the return. They gave me my final receipt before I left so no surprises there, and it was incredibly cheap for a fri=sun rental.
Waited over 45min for a shuttle to their facility and would have waited longer if I had not to called the main Thrifty number to reach the local office. (Other customers who got on were apparently trying to call as well) Customer service was lacking, no one looked to enjoy their jobs let alone customers. Then the first car I was provided smelled like body oder so had to go back and ask for another car. Also, the shuttle guy asked if I was headed back to the airport when turning it in... but left me there as I was checking out. Why ask then leave me waiting? I travel quite a bit and this has been one if not the worst rental experience. Just say no to Thrifty at PHL.

2021-12-03Let’s just start by saying this was the worst rental car company we have ever used. We ordered a midsize car and ended up with a Toyota Corolla. Smelt like cigarettes smoke inside. Had a burned cigarette hole in the front set. The carpet on the driver’s floor board had a hole in it as well. Not to mention the long wait to get checked in. You will also have to wait for them to clean the car once someone else returns one. I would not recommend using this company

2022-04-30Waited over 45 minutes for the Thrifty/Dollar shuttle. We watched enterprise, Avis and budget shuttles come every few minutes. Finally get the the building to get our car and we have been in line over an hour to pick up a car we had reserved. One agent on a Saturday which is a busy travel day???? Line is out the door and no sign of getting out of here anytime soon. NEVER RENT FROM THRIFTY or DOLLAR!

2022-02-03Horrible experience. 1 star is one too many. They rented me a car with a flat tire. Didnt fix it. Simply told me to fill it with air twice per day. After I returned the car, they sent me an invoice for tolls which I paid. Then, sent me another 2 invoices for the exact same tolls which I previously paid. Negatively affected my credit score. DO NOT USE THRIFTY! Use any other rental car agency.

2022-02-22Car was decent. Prices were reasonable. Staff was not so friendly. The wait was ridiculous!!! On a Friday afternoon at an airport, you would think they would schedule accordingly. The return was a much easier process. Maybe they should incorporate some of the return procedures into the rental process. Also, front counter reps should consider explaining things such as toll use instead of simply asking if you want it. As a visitor to the city and unaware of tolls, how could I possibly know what I am signing up for.

2022-02-16Service is terrible. The bathroom was under construction and the parts of bathroom were on top of vending machine. Nice to have the thought of toilet juice on my chips. Also the blue Thriffy bus drive past us and didn’t even attempt to stop. The customer service is horrible and I don’t recommend this company to a anyone.

2022-02-11The first time I rented here I had a great experience. The second time I was charged more than I agreed to after having to upgrade my vehicle since they offered me a different vehicle than what was advertised. Instead of being charged the upgrade fee I agreed to I was charged for a whole new rental plus the original. They refused to provide me a bill for the full rental and instead sent me TWO invoices for a single car rental. I ended up having to dispute through me bank, and they did refund me. The woman on the phone argued with me that the full price does not have to be disclosed on the rental agreement and that a $100 upgrade on top of a $250 rental somehow equals $600. Never again will I rent here.

2022-04-28We had not such bad experience as the people in the comments below described. We didnt have to wait, the clerk was very friendly and quick. They had not the type of car, we booked, but the alternative she gave us, was a good solution and we are satisfied.

2022-07-01Worst experience ever at this thrifty car rental location. I am a blue chip rewards member, as member the benefits are skip the counter, priority counter service, free authorized additional driver, quicker reservations, receive best discounts. We arrived to the Thrifty car rental, stand at the blue chip rewards line no one was in front of us. There was one employee for the priority customers. He didnt say anything to us when we arrived in line, another employee sit next to him(who was helping customers at the moment) ask how can he helps us? Then we replied we are blue chip rewards member. After that, the employee sit at the priority counter, he asked for the name on the reservation and said the name is not on his paper, so go back and wait in line. He did not even try to look up our reservation or name, just because our name is not on his paper! Well apparently his paper is not accurate. Very disappointed and unprofessional staff. I would not recommend this thrifty car rental location to anybody! Horrible customer service.

2022-03-20After arriving at zone 2 to be picked up by the thrifty shuttle and waiting 20 minutes we still were not picked up. I called the phone number on the website and the representative told me they did not have the phone number for the Philly location to call them to ask for the shuttle. A driver from another rental company took us to their respective location and we had to walk to Thrifty. We should have just stayed at the location because then we proceeded to wait in line for two hours only to be given the wrong car. The girl at the ticket counter was short and rude. The only saving grace to that place is the general manager was clearly trying his best to get everyone taken care of.

2022-03-01I waited for three hours until I got my vehicle. When I walked into an already packed lobby, there were 3 people working the front. About an hour into my wait, there was only 1, with a full lobby two people were sent home. I finally got my car and had to wait so long at the exit gate. When I returned my car, my rental agreement was not closed out so I was charged $167 for two days of an already returned car. It took forever to get my deposit, and those two pending charges of $167 are still showing in my accounts, its been about two weeks now. Never renting or doing business here again. I would rather pay more money next time than have to deal with this cheap rental company. You get what you pay for.
