There’s another phone number for a 24/7 Truck Share help for one TODJ MYERS. That phone number also never gets picked up.Go Penske. Or at least another Uhaul location. This place is a joke and deserves to go bankrupt.Now, incoming replies from manager/workers saying apologies bla bla bla......
To preface, the woman at the counter helping people was friendly, helpful, and understanding. This review is not a reflection on her, but the location as a whole.***Simply put, I had put in an order by phone for a trailer hitch and installation. This location was the only one within 50 miles or so that had the hitch I needed in stock, and other locations wouldn’t have it in stock for several months since it was so heavily backordered, despite it being a location that was far from me.I arrive one week, only to find that the person whom I made my appointment with verbally gave me the incorrect date. I show up, only to be told that my appointment was for the following week. Fine. Easy miscommunication. I’m assured in person that the installation appointment was “good to go” for the next week, however. I’m showed the screen where I’d be slotted.A week later, I arrive, 100% sure that things will be right this time. I tell them I have an appointment. I show them the email confirmation. Everything is good. I’m told “sorry, our installer isn’t showing up today.”Well... nothing I can do. I ended up purchasing the hitch. I’ll have it installed elsewhere.Be forewarned, and call ahead the same day if possible to absolutely confirm your appointment is still green lit. I wasted several hours of my time at this location.
I reserved to install my hitch today. I drove 40 mins and waited in the store for 30 min. They told me the part was not there yet. They don’t informed customer ahead for this situation. I ended up wasted few hours of my time .I called their customer service to complain but waited hours couldn’t connect . I couldn’t find any other store treat their customer this bad.
Poor customer service is a peep peeve of mine! They young lady (and that’s me being nice) was rude, she asked who the reservation was under and we gave her the info she asked for and she attempted to say my name and I said “yes” and pronounced my name properly, she proceeded to repeat it properly and then also repeat it the incorrect way with a hunch of the shoulders... Rude and unprofessional... Move on to getting I to the reservation, and this is no fault of her own but it allows to to reserve equipment with the truck rental that they don’t actually have and she’s like “we don’t have they hand truck and I don’t know whatever else this is but we don’t have it either anyway”... Moving forward she ask when we’d like to return the truck and ask if 4 hours is a good window, I ask if the rate for 4 hours is the same as 24 hours and she says she doesn’t know, I ask if it’s returned after the 4 hour window if it’ll be a charge for the late return and she says she doesn’t know... This is all why she’s on the computer looking at the screen which I can only assume is a tool/resource that would provide the answers if it’s information she doesn’t know. So I say, “well how do we find out of the person working here can’t tell us? She said “I don’t know, maybe other people who worked here longer would know that but I don’t know, I don’t rent trucks I just work here.” So I so well I’m pretty sure it’s just the $25 for 24 hours plus the mileage and I don’t think it’s less for 4 hours and since we don’t know if they changed extra if we go over let’s just do 24 hours.” This chick goes “oh see if see must rent trucks because I don’t know so she must rent them if she knows that.” Let’s not mention she called the computer retarded at one point... Who hires, trains, manage, and keep these incompetent fools (That was me not being nice and just calling it as I see it)?
The girl representative has a terrible attitude. She gave my rental to someone else and told me that it’s policy of someone comes into the location gives them my name and they can give out the vehicle. I know for sure no one gave them my name. To be honest the entire staff was unprofessional, seemed unethical, cursing in front of customers and using the N word multiple times. The lady told me she wouldn’t give me a vehicle because I was upset that she gave my reservation to a complete stranger. I will be escalating my experience to all online platforms as well as corporate. This was a god awful experience.
First of the employees in this location used to be friendly and very helpful but not sure what happened to them now. Maybe it’s because they’re too busy with their cell phone. I was waiting on a line to get my truck and there were at least 10 other people behind me waiting on line and the whole experience could be a lot more smoother if the representative behind the counter paid more attention to his customer not his cell phone. He was too busy dealing with his social Media than his actual job which pays his salary. This guy was straight up disrespectful and really arrogant. I have never encountered this problem before in any other Uhaul
Im so confused. We ordered and scheduled a hitch to be installed at this location. Paid in full. Showed up and after waiting 20 min in line, no one knows where the part is. The mechanic is on vacation. 20 more minutes on the phone up speak to customer service, they say they cannot do anything and direct us to speak to the manager at the location. Manager is also on vacation. Come in 1 week. We paid $300 and still unclear when or if well be able to get our equipment.
After arriving at the Uhaul store where we had reserved a 9-foot van, we were told that our reservation had been moved to this location. We traveled here at our own expense and after waiting in an enormous line, were told we had been upgraded to a huge truck we had not requested. As you can see, the store prominently displays a sign stating that they will give a $50 rebate if the reservation is not as agreed upon. That sign is personally signed by the manager, Laneesha Harris. However, she has declined to honor their policy on the grounds that this was an upgrade. We have now been given the WRONG equipment at the WRONG location, resulting in a long wait at a hot store for a less safe vehicle with worse gas mileage. Their company owner lists his cell phone but did not pick up. I never complain about things (I typically write reviews only for positive experiences), but this was beyond the pale. Other customers in the same store were having the same experience: overpromise, underdeliver, no apology or expression of sympathy. I suggest renting elsewhere.
Worst experience ever. First it was a nightmare to find the hitch in any uhaul after having purchased it on line. When finally did, making an appointment was another problem because there seems not to be communication between the stores and the website. Then I went to this location and the manager Dontee managed to make me wait for 2 hours to then tell me that he had lost his driller and couldnt do the installation, 2 hours... two hours! Very disrespectful. Uhaul couldnt care less about customers and this is reflected in all of its sites.
Scheduled online to have a hitch installed I got a call from the manager the same day letting me know that the hitch MAY NOT arrive before the installation day of 4/8. I received a call the day of the installation informing me that the hitch had not been delivered yet but was scheduled for delivery on Monday 4/17. The manager called me on Saturday 4/15 letting me know that the hitch arrived before expected and I could get it installed on Tuesday 4/18. I dropped my car off at 4pm on Tuesday and my hitch was installed without issue! THANKS GUYS!!!
This is the worst place to come to and rent a truck from. On the return they wanted us to fill up the truck where it wasnt at. And the store manager in the back on a personal phone call. When been waiting for a 1 hr before she came out and help us. So Im never coming back here. That why some black people dont need jobs.
This place is a scam. Incompetence is running rampant. I received a van that was almost on empty and had damage on the side of it, and one of the lazy idiots that work there couldnt find the x that typically go on the trucks to indicate prior damage. I was told to open a link I was sent and take pictures of the damage and the near empty tank. I did both things. On returning the van, I had some rude employee bark at me Self check out over and over again. Apparently you have to do the work for these morons!! I was accused of not filling up the gas tank, when I did fill it back up to the level I got it at. When I wasnt believed I tried to show this rude, actually nasty, employee the pictues I took earlier in the day only to find that the link I had taken the pictures through had expired!! How convenient for them! I was charged almost more than $40 than I should have been. Believe me, Im fighting it. Its not the money I care about, its how I was treated and how this place is trying really hard to screw you over.
Decent in pricing, easy to deal with, friendly staffs. Long queue in the morning. Make sure to pre-book online before heading to store, it will be much easier. We were given wrong vehicle, then they corrected the vehicle. We drove back home only to discover that the dolly that we paid for was not in the truck. We needed to drive back to receive it. That was very annoying. But at the end of the day, we were happy comparing the hours we used vs total price. If you can check everything before leaving the store and drive within the city, its a good deal!
I would give them 0 stars if I could. I got a call the night before I was supposed to move and they said they had no available trucks and that I would have to wait a few more days. Unfortunately this was not an option for me. No one I talked to in customer service offered up any solutions. They were completely useless. I dont know what the point of making a reservation is if they can cancel it at the last minute. DO NOT rent from here unless you are extremely flexible with your move date. Your online reservation means nothing until they call you, which they wont do until the day before when it is too late for you to reserve someone else. This place is horrendous.
The guy at the desk was very rude and unpleasant. He told me just because uhaul website allowed me to make a reservation doesnt necessarily mean they have the van available. I had to wait an hour because a previous customer hadnt returned the van and instead of calling the person to ask when hell bring the van back (which he eventually did because i insisted and the previous customer showed up within 5 mins), he asked us to wait for another hour. And then he said even after waiting 2 hours, Id have to bring the van back before the original booking end time meaning Id only get the van for 22 hours. Also, despite reserving rental furniture pads, he told me there weret any available and instead of referring us to another location, insisted on having us buy new ones (which i dont have use for later) and got really impatient while i took 2 mins to decide (No one else was waiting at that location anyway). Horrible Horrible service.Go to a different location. This location is NOT RECOMMENDED.
Both vehicles we had were dirty they smell like pets and pet hair all in on seats vehicles need to be clean before they run it out to people they don’t know if they have severe allergies or not make sure gas gauge is where they say it is it moves back-and-forth and I’ll try to pull a fast one on you and try to make you pay extra never going there again
Disgusted is a serious understatement. After being tossed around by Uhaul to two different locations that were not our original pickup location (Pullens Garage in Hamilton) I was sent to Philadelphia to pick up my Uhaul truck Chestnut Street location. After hours on the phone, and the second switch literally this morning before we left to pick up the truck they gave me a “free extra day, extra 100 miles and $100 off my rental price” which I initially thought was fair enough.Now I usually keep my complaints to myself, but not only were the people rude as anything at the Uhaul pickup location in Philly, not only was the truck NOT disinfected for any Covid safety precautions, the truck was not cleaned prior to pickup, and there were heroin syringes in the back along with other drug paraphernalia not to mention a bottle likely filled with urine. The man told me I had to wait, (Past the time of my pickup which had already set me back) Made my boyfriend get into the non-disinfected truck, swept the needles and empty baggies into the parking lot, sprayed it out with a pump sprayer, and used a dirty mop to clean the back. I am utterly appalled. This is supposed to be a super fun, and exciting experience for My boyfriend and I, and this start to our voyage across country has been an absolute nightmare.“A free extra day” that’s been now half wasted considering we had to literally disinfect the entire truck ourselves, not to mention two hours round trip and beyond terrible/nasty service. I actually called uhaul Customer service for the third time after leaving, another rude individual who contacted the manager at the location in philly to later tell me that the truck was cleaned before they even handed me the keys...LOL OKAY.If you get anything out of this post, think twice before using Uhaul, find somewhere else. We are paying $2080 to transport all of our valued belongings, the bed that we sleep on, and much more in a truck that was used as a drug den for some user/abuser the night before. Not a good look Uhaul I will certainly never use them again.To be clear this truck came from 4857 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19139.
Customer service was very poor both over the phone and in-person. When I went to go pick up my van, employees were unwelcoming, uncaring, rude, slow, incredibly impatient, and just generally gave off the attitude that I was some idiot bothering them. It was especially rattling because I was already stressed about my upcoming move. Ive warned all of my friends still living in Philly to never use this location.
My father died on Wednesday and I needed to move on Saturday- I forgot to reserve a truck and ended up walking in to this place after trying at other locations. The staff went out of their way to help and we ended up getting a truck. There was a bit of a wait but it was a Saturday afternoon at the end of the month and there were only two staff members, so thats to be expected. This place was a lifesaver.
Rude manager was charged twice. Employee that help me could not stop wipeing snot on the back of his hand instead of just getting a tissue. System was down had to take photo of receipt with my phone. Truck was not in best of shape Over all this place is the worst go somewhere else!
Easiest UHAUL location Ive ever dealt with. We precooked our truck and arrived right at opening time. Quincy was the representative who made the process so easy and impacted our great experience. He was fast and professional. Thanks so much Quincy for making our move a breeze.
There were only 2 customers in front of me but still had to wait an hour before I received service due to an on-spot employee-employee-management disagreement/issue. Ideally, there should be more than one rep waiting on customers especially during the weekend, a normally busy time.
I went 3 blocks away and the gas gauge went less than the 1/4 tank the guy checking the gas level actually let the van run until it was past the point so he could charge 12 extra dollars. Then said I drove 10 miles. I know I didnt. I have rented there before without any problems but the crew January 2020 are scammers. Unprofessional too. Took a picture of my ID with his phone😡
Employees do not wear masks when talking to customers over the counter without any separation. Hitch came in 1 week late and they dont bother to call to reschedule, so I had to go there twice. The installation was fast and good, so 1 star added. Call a day ahead to make sure they can keep your appointment for hitch installation.

Last month my truck broke down and I have been renting trucks here almost every day for the last month. Other than that, I rent their 26 footers about once a week. Ive been coming here consistently for about 2 years now.These guys have taken good care of me and I have not had one single issue. Every reservation has been guaranteed and I dont ever have to worry if the truck will be there.Ive been to many different U-Haul locations in alot of different cities and this one is really one of the best.Salute!!!
Note: be absolutely certain to check the gas gauge before leaving. I drove from this location to 63rd and Market Street (maximum of 7 miles). Apparently putting two gallons of gas into the truck wasnt enough and I received extra charges. I should add that when I returned the truck, the people in front of me had the same exact issue. Either the gas mileage is THAT bad (3.5 miles/gallon) or the employees arent reading the gauges properly.The only reason for an extra star is the location.
U-Haul made our move a nightmare by failing to honor a reservation made well in advance and failing to offer a viable solution. Its their policy to accept more reservations than they can meet, but unlike airlines theres no compensation/accommodation in the case of an overbooking situation. Id recommend shelling out a little more money for a reliable option.
It was a typical U-Haul. My daughter and I bought boxes, and had to make two trips to get them. As we came back in for the second batch and were picking them up, the gentleman that checked us out suddenly says, hey, what are you doing?, implying we hadnt paid for the boxes. He told us later that he meant it as a joke, and that we needed to smile more. Accusing us of stealing boxes is NOT the way to get us to smile more.
Should have trusted my gut. Ive had bad experiences with U-Haul in the past, and this location is no exception. Got a call 2 days before a move that they couldnt honor the time or truck size on my reservation. Highly recommend paying more for an alternate rental company—youll end up saving in the long run.

2022-01-15I had a truck reserved for a month to be picked up at five am. They confirmed the night before the move but when we went to pick it up there wasnt a lock box with keys. Called and apparently someone at this location cancelled it. Uhaul help line sorted it out but we still had to wake up at 4am for no reason and stand out in the cold to figure out that someone cancelled our reservation without a rhyme or reason and without alerting us. Super inconvenient and awful on a day that is already stressful. Awful awful

2022-06-06Absolutely horrible experience at the University City location. We originally schedule a van from the Kingsessing office, but got an email the day before to pick up at the UCity office instead. I called multiple times to confirm this reservation - the UCity office originally said they couldnt see the reservation despite the South Philly scheduling office stating that it was scheduled.We arrived around 9am for our 9am reservation of a one-way 9 cargo van to the Bronx. After waiting in like for about 45 minutes, we were able to show one of the two employees our self-check-in, and I was charged $202 to my Discover Card. He gave me the van key, then realized that the only van they had was for local use, and made me give him back the van key. He then left the building to help another customer. By now, there were at least 20 customers in line waiting. Taysha Blackstone, the one other employee, said there was no one-way van available, despite our prior reservation, and that the van we paid for must have never been returned. Taysha refused to refund us for the van that we paid for, telling us curtly to call the main hotline. Taysha then told us to get out of line to make our phone call and started assisting other customers while we stood there. She said multiple times that she was ready to put in my two weeks to quit her job. We attempted to call the Uhaul main number and South Philly scheduling office. No vans were available in Philadelphia, despite the fact that we had reserved, and PAID for the van already! Eventually, after two and half hours in line after our appointment we got a remaining 10 truck for our move. We were billed a second time. I am waiting for a refund for the first van we paid for but never received.I hope that Uhaul can make this right. In the future, we will go with another moving company.

Watched him give a white couple the most pleasurable experience and when my turn came he rolled his eyes and was reluctant to service me. He basically tossed me the keys and said “here” without any instructions on where the vehicle is located. He also assumed I was using a cash app card.

2022-01-24If I could give them no stars I would! Worst experience ever! The most upsetting part was the service provided by the employees. They charged me for gas when I drove the truck only 6 miles! And brought it back after realizing I didn’t need it. I didn’t even put anything in the truck and they charged me a cleaning fee! I called to speak to someone about the charges and their employee EARL WHITNEY was so rude to me! He refused to look up my reservation number to even look into why I was charged and he purposely hung up the phone on me! I called back and told him he hung up in the middle of me talking and he said “I know”. Horrible horrible horrible experience. I will never book a uhaul truck again! If you are looking to book with uhaul, I would recommend GOING TO ANOTHER LOCATION OR JUST DONT BOOK AT ALL! They have no care for customer service and only care about making money with their ridiculous charges!

2021-12-20A really, really terrible moving experience because of U-Haul. Id like to preface that we did not experience rude or dismissive service. They are clearly under staffed, under paid, overstressed and doing thier best.We reserved a 10 foot truck for Saturday afternoon and elected to use the app instead of at the counter. ( HUGE mistake. If you absolutely have to use UHaul, use the counter. The app is so glitchy, frustrating and outright bad you will end up at the counter anyway.) After several attempts to take a simple picture, with a hour left to go before hired movers arrived, we headed in to see what the problem was.After several minutes in a frozen line, it seemed like the computers were experiencing a malfunction. Everyone patiently waited for five minutes. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. Twenty. THIRTY. The woman at the counter kept saying the computers were being really slow. Then they werent working at all. When she called what I can assume is an IT line they said to wait it out, nothing they could do. Looking it up later, apparently this happens CONSTANTLY. She called another store. Same thing. Apparently the entire system was down nationwide. At this point we were out of time. The movers were on the clock and waiting for us. We were still without. With no way to know how long this nationwide outage was going to be, we had no choice but to cancel our movers and try the next day. At this point there wasnt a lot of choices.SO, next day. Computers are up! Great. We get the truck. Annndddd....the battery is dead. Of course. When I went in to tell them, they basically said there wasnt an extra truck available, so no truck AGAIN that day. By some miracle, someone was returning a truck at the exact same time, so we managed to finally secure a truck. But the poor soul literally signing a contract to get that exact same truck was out of luck, as well as someone who called asking if they had any ten footers available, to which they replied yes. Wouldnt want to face those two.We had to return the truck after hours. Also a terrible idea, it turns out. We had to navigate the terrible app AGAIN, and surprise, it was malfunctioning. Other people were also returning and finding the app completely broken. At this point we were so fed up with uhaul we took pictures ourselves NOT through the app and chucked the keys in the return slot, vowing to never, EVER use UHaul again.Super long, harried story short, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. It literally cost us more to rent this truck, with all the mishaps and delays, than it would movers with thier own truck. Save your time, money, and sanity. Just dont come here.

2019-05-27Total Disappointment!When it comes to something as important as moving, you want to be able to trust that you and your belongings will be safe. Additionally, you don’t want to handle any unplanned frustrations which could make the already difficult and stressful task of moving even worse!This location disappointed on all fronts. The employees were unprofessional discussing personal business while waiting on customers and being visibility upset and loud while taking a personal call on their cells. The location was also understaffed during a busy weekend, resulting in a long and slow moving line. To further compound the frustrations, the truck I received was in terrible condition. There was a check engine light, low tire pressure warning, graffiti, numerous dents, no windshield washer fluid and a burnt out headlight.I found this experience to be totally the opposite of what I would want and expect when dealing with a large company. I would not recommend this location!

2021-10-20I called the U-Haul of University City, today 10.20.21, inquiring about a hitch installation for my car. The person who answered the phone told me they dont have a hitch installer at this time and to call the U-Haul on Township Line, which is fine. But, when I ask him if he had the number to the other U-Haul location he was referring me to he said, No, I dont have it. You will have to look it up on google because Im busy. That is ridiculous to respond in that way to a customer.

2021-10-02I just had the worst experience at this location. The customer service representative on location was rude and unhelpful from the beginning and it only got worse after they told me that my rental truck wasnt available. It had been booked a month ago!I will never use uhaul again.
