Wonderful Victorian mansion converted to a museum, dedicated to local artists, with many cultural events. The director, Bill, is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the arts. Definitely a museum to visit with the family. Plenty of parking and beyond the must see ongoing exhibits a historical site with incredible architecture and a history worth learning.
The Museum is welcoming, their collection of art work give balance to my understanding to the status of the blend of commercial art( illustration) and classic art. The event being held there Saturday consisted of local artist and craft people . Which i found interesting / I had a chance to buy some unique item to give as Christmas presents/. I wish they had invited more vendors and that they had advertised more. I only found out about it by chance.
Great visit! Easy bus ride to front door on museum. Very reasonable entrance fee. Just big enough to allow you a chance to get lost in the Art. EXCELLENT exhibition on talented influential Black Germantown artist. Engaging installation of local student art work. Bathrooms, sanitizer, air conditioned, clean, chairs to sit and contemplate- not crowded....... super! Small uninspired gift shop, 😕 but I DIDNT need to waste money anyway. 😊
The exhibit on the first floor wasnt open when we were there, but we found plenty to look at on the third floor. I LOVE contemporary art and really enjoyed learning about some artists who were new to me, as well as revisiting more familiar works. My husband is not as into contemporary art but enjoyed himself as well.
I was disappointed with my visit to Wood mere on Saturday. Arpagio was supposed to be playing songs from Nina Simone, & his singer Windy, had no voice range or spirit of Nina. She only sang 3 songs, that were not original Nina music. Arpagio only played their own music. Once it got dark, there was no lighting to see the performers. I was totally disappointed with the evening. Do better Arpagio!!!
Beautiful sculpture garden, very kind staffsIn particular, Woodmere Art Museum has many wonderful American artists artworks including latest artworks up to 2018 as well as a section designated for students; very nice collections. Impressive!Quiet and beautiful inside and outside...If they sell coffee for the garden and sitting area would be perfect in my opinion.
Fish museum is an excellent way to educate yourself family and friends on Modern culture and current Society situations. It the scale is perfect for a family and the Student Art Exhibit is beyond any comprehensive recovery Xzibit Ive seen today. I recently celebrated 2 years alcohol-free. God bless.
Woodmere Arts Museum at 9201 Germantown Avenue Philadelpia PA is an awesome place for Exhibitions, programs, Music and Event. On the eve of Christmas Collections we have visited in a chill & drizzling evening to enjoy the Exhibits in the Museum by regional artists : Lovely Lively display in a very big Wall canvass...excellent workmanship.Hand crafted Jewellery, some textile material and ceramics were also on display.Entry is free...lot of parking area.Special mention must be made of Art exhibits which reflect the cultural changes from earlier civilisation to present day grandiose vision of Americas Natural environment.Worth visiting especially during Thanks giving/Christmas eve...
We attend the Friday night Jazz concerts. The concerts are always a wonderful musical experience that is fully enjoyed by the entire audience. We have a family membership and attend the concerts on a regular basis. We also enjoy the artwork and gift shop while were here.
Certainly worth checking out. Found the curation of the collections were really interesting and varied. The grounds of this place are gorgeous. The trees on the property are arbored in such a way that they stand as additional natural sculptures on the lawn. The most contemporary section of the museum housed mostly work by artists with a Philadelphia connection (perhaps this was even true for the other rooms). Delighted by the reflections on the time since Stonewall that I imagine were integrated in time for Pride. Only desire would be to see more works by womxn.
We were out for a weekend drive and went to this place near cherry hill, I think, the museum is not large took us a out an hour to see it all at a slow pace. I posted a pic of what I thought was an impressive portrait. The experience will depend on what special exhibit they have is about half the museum in our visit. But is very enjouable,, then you can just walk to the twoan5(about 10 mins) and grab anything to eat.
The place is amazing and bursting with creative energy. The guides are knowledgable, friendly, helpful people. There are classes for every age. When we were there a 4th grade class from a school in Fishtown was enjoying their coloring class. We loved the African exhibit and the historical works from the 18th, 19th and 20th and 21st century. The sculptures in the front yard are wonderful and it is nice to have benches scattered about so you can sit and take in the place.
Woodmere Art Museum is truly a Philadelphia treasure. It is rich with history and a place that celebrates Philadelphia area based artist both past and present. And It’s true gem.....Violet Oakley’s The Building of the House of Wisdom! Truly stunning from an artist that needs to be known by all!
This is quite a good small regional art museum at the top of Chestnut Hill. They have some good special exhibitions, a big outdoor sculpture garden, and a surprisingly fine permanent collection--check out the Church and the Cropsey, as well as the Herzog Florida landscape. I was a little annoyed that their Veramin Persian rug wasnt on display--interesting piece. The house setting is agreeable, and even the gift shop is good. If you are in the area it would be a big mistake not to visit the Woodmere.
Quaint little gem hidden in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philly. It was converted from an Old World Baby Mansion to an Eclectic Art Museum. Via eventbrite I discovered a Spring time Friday night Jazz series. They served TWO glasses of white wine wine & snacks for 25 bucks/non-member tix. I saw some Latin Jazz featuring Panamanian born Giovana Robinsons Ensemble. The music was very good and her red dress did wonders for my eyesight.
Great museum with solid mission to promote Philly artists. I like how they unite diverse folks from many Philly schools and traditions. As an addiction psychologist in Philadelphia I feel a special committment to local artists with local professions and we love the Woodmere. Love the Philly art scene with the Barnes, Art Blog, ICA, PAFA, PMA, Vox and so much more.
Such a gem of a museum, which focuses on works by artists from Philadelphia. Since Philadelphia was such a hotbed of art, especially in the modernist movement of the eary 20th century, there is a great deal of wonderful art, both in their permanent collection and their special exhibitions.
I dont know if it was because there was an event happening, but there was very little parking with poor signage. Also the corrections were a little strange. To get to the top section of one of the collections, theres only a single small spiral stairwell, so not wheelchair accessible. There are lots of stairs everywhere.

2021-12-10This place is very nice. I came for an event, so I can only speak to that experience. The building is lit up beautifully for the holiday season. There are interesting outdoor sculptures as you walk from the parking lot. The person working at the front desk was quite amicable. I attended a film screening in a large hall. The event was great and the setting contributed to the success. I plan to return to see more of the museum.

2021-07-20This was a beautiful and memorable art museum with old painting preserved still. During initial days of covid pandemic it was less crowded when we visited. Spend almost 2 hours and time passed by observing the paintings.

2021-05-02Nice little museum! The outside have few nice arts around the area the worth IG photo. Inside they have beautiful art displays and souvenir shop. The day we visited the place, one of the artist is around and you can interact with him which I think is so cool. Fun place to just appreciate arts. You need tickets to get in (free) just by appointment because they limit the amount of people inside which is good.

2020-09-13Local artists featured in changing exhibits, with info about each piece posted. I really enjoyed reading about each piece as I went through the museum. The sculpture outside is interesting, bizarre, and unexpected. A nice way to spend an hour on a Sunday afternoon for sure.

2021-02-14I enjoyed my visit to the museum. The Schofield and Group 55 (Phila. Abstract Art) exhibits were great. I also enjoyed the permanent collection artwork in the Parlor & Founders Galleries.

2021-02-09Great place to go while bored during covid; not many people, masks required, limited capacity, very few shared surfaces. Has some cool local art but the rooms near the exit have some crazy landscape paintings that blew me away. There are also sculptures scattered around outside the building (also from local artists) and the mansion itself is beautiful. (Also some weird art like this photo)
